It may be that a fasting person’s share of the fast is nothing else but……

Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ”It may be that a fasting person’s share of the fasting is nothing else but hunger and thirst.” [Imaam Ibn Maajah: 1690; Imaam Ahmad: 8639 and declared authentic by Imaam Albaanee in Saheeh Al-Jaami 3488, 3490]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

Fasting is abstinence of the limbs from sins and abstinence of the stomach from food and drink. And just as food and drink nullifies and corrupts the fasting, likewise sins curtail its reward and corrupt its fruits, so it leads him (i.e. the person) to the position of one who has not fasted. [Sharh Waabilus Sayyib of Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, (rahimahullaah), page: 32]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah):

The legislated affairs of Islaam are nourishments of the hearts; and when the hearts are nourished with innovation, giving more virtue/excellence to the Sunan does not remain in them, so they come to be in the position of one who nourishes (himself) with filth. [Iqtidaa Siraat Al-Mustaqeem: 1/281]

Abdul Azeez Bin Rabee (rahimahullaah) said:

Ataa (rahimahullaah) was asked about something, so he said: ”I don’t know.” He (Abdul Azeez) said, (then) it was said to him (i.e. Ataa), ”Do you not speak about it with your own opinion?” He (Ataa) said: I feel shy of Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) to be (slave and worshipper) in the earth with my opinion/s. [Reported by Imaam Daarimee in his sunan: 1/108]

Clarification

The article in the above link is a detailed clarification of the falsehood of abu usaamah’s stances in the early days and his defence of the innovator Abul Hasan al-Maribi; also in the article Faaleh al Harbi is mentioned as one of the main defenders of the correct salafi positions, but the reader must be informed that Faaleh deviated thereafter and traversed the methodology of the extremist haddaadiyyah, so the scholars refuted him.

I am fasting with a country that preceded Saudi……

Question

I am fasting with a country that preceded Saudi (in fasting), so should I end the fasting with the country am fasting with or with Saudi, knowing that I will be staying there (i.e. in that other country) till after Eed?

Answer

At present you are following Saudi, so if they finish their fasting, you finish alongside them; but if they (i.e. that other country) complete thirty days and you are about to reach thirty one days, what is the ruling on ( this)? Allaah did not (legislate) that we fast thirty-one days, rather we either fast thirty days or twenty-nine days based on the sighting of the crescent. Therefore, some of the scholars say that you should break the fasting in secret when it reaches thirty days. [Al-Fataawaa Wad-Duroos Fil-Masjidil Haraam of Shaikh Abdullaah Bin Muhammad bin Humaid (rahimahullaah) page: 473]

Who is the fasting person?

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

The fasting person is the one whose limbs abstain from sins; his tongue (abstains) from lying, lewdness and false speech; his stomach (abstains) from food and drink and his private parts (abstain) from obscenity. When he speaks, he does not speak with what harms his fasting and when he acts he does not do what corrupts his fasting. All his speech comes out useful and righteous.

Likewise his actions are of the status of that scent that is smelled by the one who sits with the seller of musk, and likewise the one who sits with the fasting person is benefited by sitting with him and is saved from false speech, lies, evil deeds and oppression. This is the legislated fasting and not merely abstaining from food and drink.[1] And it is (reported) in the authentic hadeeth: ”Whoever does not give up lying speech (false statements) and acting on those lies and evil actions etc., Allaah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink.” [2]

He Heard a voice thinking that it was the Adhaan of Maghrib

Question:

What is the ruling on the one who eats before the adhaan of (Maghrib), because he committed a mistake; he heard a voice and thought that it was the adhaan and then broke his fast. Thereafter, it became clear to him that the Mu-addhin did not call the adhaan yet?

Answer:

If the sun had already set, then his fasting is correct. And if the sun had not, then his fasting is incorrect. If he doubted whether the sun had set or not and continued upon this (doubt), then the fasting should be repeated out of precaution. Repeat this day’s (fasting), and this is (done) out of precaution.” [Al-Fataawaa Wad-Duroos Fil Masjidil Haraam of Shaikh Abdullaah Bin Muhammad Bin Humaid (rahimahullaah) page: 517]

He gargled and some water enters into his throat…..

Question

A person gargled and a little bit of water enters into him (i.e. his belly, down his throat etc.); is his fasting broken?

Answer:

If that was done intentionally, your fasting is broken. And if that was done unintentionally, your fasting is not broken and this fasting is correct. You gargled and some water entered into your throat unintentionally, this fasting is correct. It is similar to your sniffing water (during ablution) and it entered your throat unintentionally, this fasting is correct. But if that was done intentionally, you have committed an error and it is obligatory upon you to repeat that fasting.
