The First Admonition and Clarification

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“It is obligated to every Muslim that he does not depend on custom; rather he presents it to the pure Islamic legislation, so whatever the Islamic legislation affirms is permissible and whatever it does not affirm is impermissible. The customs of the people are not proof to determine the lawfulness of anything. All the customs of the people in their countries or tribes must be presented to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for judgement, then whatever Allah and His Messenger made permissible is permissible, and whatever they forbid, it is obligatory to abandon it even if it is the custom of the people”. The Imam, may Allah have mercy upon him, also said:

“Let every Muslim be careful of being deceived by the great numbers, whilst saying, “Indeed, the people have become such and such, and have become accustomed to such and such, so I am with them”. This is a great calamity, for indeed many people of the past were destroyed due to this. Therefore, O sensible one! It is obligated to you to examine yourself, take account of yourself and adhere to the truth, even if the people abandon it. Beware of what Allah has forbidden, even if the people do it, for indeed the truth is more worthy of being followed, just as Allah, The Most High, said: [وَإِنْ تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّه ِ -And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s Path. [Surah Al An’am Ayah 116]

And Allah, The Most High, said: [ وَمَآ أَڪۡثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَوۡ حَرَصۡتَ بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ-And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly]. [Surah Yusuf Ayah 103] [2]

Al-Allamah Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Wadi’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If numbers are the scale through which you judge, then the majority are mostly blameworthy; and if persuasive speech and eloquence is the scale through which you judge, then indeed Allah described the Munaafiqoon that they have tongues that utter beautiful speech. Allah said: [وَإِن يَقُولُواْ تَسۡمَعۡ لِقَوۡلِهِمۡ – And when they speak, you listen to their words]. [Surah Al-Munaafiqoon. Ayah 4]

Therefore, what is given consideration is that one knows the people of truth by their characteristics – that they call to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, and companions, and they neither desire reward from the people nor seeking to be thanked. This article is a brief comment on the assertion made by two individuals named Frederic C. Hof and Samuel J Hyde. To begin, Mr C. Hof stated: “A century after the end of the Ottoman Empire, no successor to Istanbul’s sultan-caliph has emerged”.

Response: Indeed, the presence of a khilafah, a Muslim empire or nation state that steadfastly adheres to the Qur’an and Sunnah as understood by the pious predecessors is a blessing that Allah bestows on whomsoever He pleases. A closer look at the rise and fall of the Ottomans reveals the elements that contributed to their success and their eventual decline, all by the Will of Allah. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon upon him, said: “Whoever contemplates the state the world will find that every rectification is due to Tawhid, singling out Allah in worship and obedience to His Messenger (Muhammad). And every evil in the world, trial, affliction, scarcity (in livelihood), being overpowered by an enemy and other than that is due to opposition to the Messenger and the call to other than (the way of) Allah and His Messenger. Whoever truly contemplates this and examines the state of affairs of the world- since its beginning and until the time Allah will take it away and those upon it, he will realise this regarding himself and others, in general and specific (circumstances). The acknowledgment that the Ottomans gradually experienced a decline in power due to their detachment from the Sunnah is well-documented in numerous historical texts. Nevertheless, this vulnerability was capitalised upon by those who have consistently sought to undermine the sound Islamic creed and governance, irrespective of its strength or frailty in various eras.

Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghani, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

Allah, The Most High, guided mankind through Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and through what he brought of clear manifest evidences and guidance – a guidance that could not be described by those who were proficient in giving descriptions and surpassed the knowledge of those with great perception. So, through this guidance, Allah [The Most High] opened the eyes of the blind ones, the ears of the deaf ones and the hearts of the heedless ones. Allah [The Most High] united them upon one religion- the religion of pure Islamic monotheism; Prophet Ibrahim’s [peace be upon him] religion of pure monotheism – after they had been in a state of complete disunity, enmity towards one another, destructive and corrupt creeds. Allah united their hearts and they became true brothers in Islam by way of this great blessing. And thereafter everything that was worshiped besides Allah- such as graves, trees, stones, graven images, idols etc- ceased to exist and all worship was carried out for Allah (alone).

The people followed the true Religion of Islamic monotheism, worshipped Allah alone and established worship sincerely for Allah, except those whom Allah willed that they were to remain as people of polytheism, hypocrisy and followers of the altered and distorted previous scriptures. The darkness of shirk (polytheism) was dispelled and the banner of Tawhid (pure Islamic Monotheism) was raised in the lands amongst the Arabs and non-Arabs. The Messenger of Allah returned to his Lord, whilst Islam was established and in authority-superseding all other ways of life and creeds. Then the rightly guided khulafaa of the Messenger [AbuBakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali] continued upon this path until the two powerful and great nations at the time- Rome and Persia- ended up in humiliation, degradation and in a state of fear after they had been in a state of security, and thus Caesar was restricted and besieged, and khosrau was subdued and destroyed.

So when the enemies of Islam saw that they were unable to do away with this religion, they implanted their disbelieving agents within Islam, who pretended to be Muslims in order to foment confusion, trials and tribulations, and spread Shirk (polytheism) by exaggerating the status of the pious people – exalting their graves through (beliefs and practices) that were not ordained by Allah. So, this Ummah was put to trial through the plots of the [atheist, heretic and hypocrite] Abdullah Bin Saba, who claimed Uloohiyyah for Ali Ibn Abee Talib [i.e. that Ali has the right to be worship]. Abdullaah Bin As-Sabah’s followers were known as the Saaba’iyyah, and later on they were known as the rawaafid (shiites), the ismaaliyyah (shittes), the nusayriyah (shiites) and other than them amongst the Baatiniyyah. They used to worship the graves and the dead, and built places of worship and domed (shaped) shrines upon these graves. So, by way of this they revived the practices of the Jews, the Christians and idol worshippers, and thus the practices of the worshippers of graves in this Muslim Ummah manifested itself in deeds of the rawaafid (shiites).

Furthermore, the books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, so many of those who attributed themselves to Islam busied themselves with these books, such as the likes of Al-Farabee, Ibn Sinaa Al-Hanafi, Naseer At- Toosee the advocator of disbelief and polytheism and other than them amongst those who played tricks with Islam, just as Paul played tricks with Christianity. They were influenced by the ideas of the Greek Philosophers- the creed of grave worship, so they became callers to grave worship through Greek Philosophy.

Thirdly: A people appeared among the Muslims manifesting asceticism. These people were more dangerous to the masses and more severe in misguidance. They were a people who appeared in the garb of the righteous, with tearful eyes smeared with kohl, long flowing beards, elevated turbans, carrying rosary beads and pretending to be calling to the sunnah of the leader of Humankind [Muhammad], whilst secretly practicing the disgraceful acts inherited from the false and vanished religions. And from their plots was that they used to mix manifest lies with the authentic explanations of the Qur’aan and the authentic narrations in order to corrupt the clear proofs of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. These deviant heretics were known as the holooliyyah, ittihaadiyyah Grave worshippers, such as the likes of al-Hallaaj (309ah), Ibn Al-Farid (632ah), Ibn Arabi (638ah), Ibn Sina (669ah) etc [1]

Every Muslim caliphate or empire, following the era of the righteous predecessors, experienced a spectrum of strength and decline, irrespective of its geographical location. This phenomenon was influenced by various internal challenges, including the actions of hypocrites, such as the Rafidah, and the diminishing commitment of Muslims to the practice of the religion as exemplified by the righteous predecessors. Each caliphate – after the period of the pious predecessors – faced its unique combination of strengths and weaknesses, shaped by numerous factors contributing to these dynamics. Similarly, the Ottoman Empire, like other Islamic empires after the time of the righteous predecessors, encountered periods of prosperity, internal strife, and external adversaries, ultimately leading to the loss of its territories, including Palestine.

Biased European ideologues, demagogues, and historians often overlook the positive contributions of the early Ottoman Empire when discussing its history. They frequently neglect to acknowledge that some of their own ancestors played significant roles in efforts to dismantle the Ottoman Empire, despite the internal weaknesses that also contributed to its decline. It is widely recognised that European imperialism exploited these vulnerabilities for over four centuries in regions that were once part of various Islamic states and empires following the Ottoman decline. This exploitation resulted not only in widespread looting and destruction but also in a cultural campaign by European powers. This culminated in the establishment of Zionist Palestine in 1948, a development that was unattainable while the Ottoman Empire retained some of its strength. Mr. Hof cannot discuss this issue without acknowledging the involvement of his ancestors in exploiting this vulnerability, which enabled them to fragment, weaken, and dominate Muslim territories, regardless of whether they were under Ottoman control. Nevertheless, despite this fragmentation and decline lasting over 400 years, Allah has protected the religion and its followers to the present day across various Muslim nations and monarchs. Consequently, wherever Muslims live under a Muslim ruler, they are obligated to practice their religion and obey the ruler. The noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, ”Allah is pleased with three things for you: that you worship Him alone and not to associate anything with him in worship, that you all hold onto the rope of Allah and do not be divided, and that you advise the one placed in charge of authority over you”. The noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “I command you to have fear of Allah, and to listen and obey even if a slave is placed in charge of authority over you…”. Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him: “Even if a slave is placed in charge of authority over you”; this is from an angle of giving an example – meaning the ruler is not belittled regardless who he is, even if he is a slave. As long as he is a leader of the Muslims, his personality is not belittled; rather his position and rulership is given consideration. As long as he has authority and the oath of allegiance has been given to him, then indeed it is obligatory to obey him [in good], even if he has mistakes….” [3]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “It is obligatory to obey the leader even if he is not king. It is well known that the Muslim Ummah – since the early era – have had a Khaleefah and king, and there are leaders of countries. Therefore, if it is obligatory to obey a leader, then more so a king is to be obeyed”. [4]

Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “The rulers and the leaders of the believers are to be obeyed and listened to [i.e. in good], whether he is a pious person or a wicked sinner, as well as whoever takes over the khilafah and the people unite behind him and are pleased with him, and the one who overcome the people with the sword until he became the Khaleefah and is named leader of the believers”. A Muslim is bound to adhere to this obligation in all situations, irrespective of the varying periods of weakness and strength that may arise within a Muslim nation, as previously cited from the words of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: “The Prophethood will remain amongst you for as long as Allah wills it to be. Strength is a blessing from Allah, and it can only be attained through obedience to Allah and His Messenger, regardless of whether one is under an Islamic empire, a monarchy, or a nation-state. This matter is not contingent upon the analyses of Mr. Hof and his ilk. We once again refer to the words of Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him: “Whoever contemplates the state the world will find that every rectification is due to Tawheed, singling out Allaah in worship and obedience to His Messenger (Muhammad). Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Islam will not cease to continue and all praise and thanks be to Allah. The religion and the Qur’an will not cease to exist until that appointed time about which the Prophet has informed us that at the end of time the Qur’an will be taken away from the hearts of men and from the Masaahif (i.e. the copies of the Qur’an).  The Qur’an will not remain within the hands of the people (at that time), but this will be at the time of the destruction of the world (i.e. when the day of judgement is very close). (However), good will continue to exist while the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the Qiblah are present, even though there is one who is led away from it and strays; and even though there is one who deviates from it and deviated, as the saying goes: “Fitnah has its victims”. It takes away the one who goes with it; but the people of Iman will remain even if they are small in number. Even if there is one who goes along with the Fitnah, the one who goes astray and the one who comes along, the truth and its people will remain, and all praise and thanks be to Allah. The truth is present, as Allah said: [إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ – Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur’an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)].

A person is neither to lose hope nor despair. He should not to make the people lose hope of a return to goodness. He should not make the people lose hope that truth will prevail, and falsehood will be repelled. This is because Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, has made that promise and He does not fail to fulfil His promise. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “The Religion is aided when put to the test; therefore, do not be amazed for this is the way the Most Merciful (Allah)”. [7]

This admonition by Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah protect him, serves as a poignant reminder that despite the gradual decline of the Ottoman Empire resulting from a lack of proper commitment to the Sunnah, Allah provided the Ummah with Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab, may Allah bestow mercy upon him, and his helpers, may Allah have mercy upon them, to revive foundations of pure Islamic monotheism and adherence to the Sunnah. Secondly, we will also address Samuel J. Hyde whose article is titled: “How Sovereign Jews Became the Target of an Islamic Identity Crisis.” To begin with, there is no inherent identity crisis; the identity defined by the Qur’an and Sunnah, as interpreted and practiced by the Prophet’s companions, is clear and unambiguous. The so-called identity crisis pertains only to those Muslims who have strayed from the path of the companions, as well as all the people of the Scripture who have deviated from the teachings of Prophets Musa and Isa, peace and blessings be upon them. Followers of these earlier Scriptures are united in their disbelief, as Jews reject Isa, whom they were instructed to follow, and Christians reject Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon both of them. In contrast, Muslims accept all Prophets and Messengers, peace and blessings be upon them. Within the Ummah of Muhammad, those who stray from or oppose the companions’ way are easily identifiable, just as those who remain faithful to it are. Unlike the other people of the Scripture, who collectively reject Muhammad and thus undermine their belief in Allah, the Ummah of Muhammad will never unite in misguidance. The Prophet said: “Verily, Allah will not let my Ummah agree upon misguidance”[8]

There is no inherent identity crisis in Islam; instead, such crises arise among those who have strayed from the beliefs, practices, and methodology of the companions, as well as the people of the Scripture who have deviated and substituted the religion of Prophets Musa and Isa, peace and blessings of Allah be upon them.

Samuel said: If the Jews of 1898—who were fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe and those who were living as second class citizens throughout the Arab world—could push Islam back, it signified an intolerable disaster of Islamic weakness. [end of quote]

Response: Samuel refers to Jews in a broad sense rather than pinpointing a specific group among them that took advantage of Muslim vulnerabilities. It’s important to note that this vulnerability is not exclusive to Muslims; followers of the Prophets have experienced periods of both strength and weakness throughout history. Additionally, the rise of Zionism did not solely contribute to Muslim decline; various significant events in Europe also played a crucial role in increasing Zionist activity in Palestine. Before delving into that, we should examine earlier occurrences in regions under Ottoman control, particularly regarding Sultan Abdul Hamid II and the Young Turks, and how Zionists leveraged their influence to facilitate the sale of Muslim territories. First, however, let’s explore the origins of Zionist initiatives in other global contexts.

“In 1897, the held a conference in Basel, Switzerland. This conference saw the participation of approximately three hundred dedicated Zionists, who represented fifty Jewish organisations; however, the identity of the individual who initiated these protocols remains unknown. The intent of these protocols was to provide guidance to the Zionists on how to exercise governance upon attaining power. They were uncovered in 1901 when a French woman encountered them during a meeting with a prominent leader of the Zionist movement at a Masonic lodge in Paris. This woman successfully acquired several documents and managed to escape with them. These documents eventually came into the possession of Alex Nikolaevich, a prominent figure in Eastern Russia during the Tsarist period, known for his vehement campaign against the Jewish population (he perceived as adversaries). Upon reviewing the documents, he recognised their significance for his nation and the broader global context. Consequently, he entrusted them to a friend, a Russian author named Sergei Nilus. Nilus examined the contents and understood their implications, subsequently translating them into Russian and providing an introduction that forecasted the collapse of Tsarist Russia due to anarchist communism, the nature of its authoritarian governance, and its role as a base for inciting turmoil—aiming to dismantle the Islamic Caliphate, establish the State of Israel in Palestine, and bring down monarchies across Europe.

In 1902, a book was published for the first time in the Russian language, produced in limited quantities. The Zionists reacted vehemently upon its release, initiating intense campaigns to discredit the book. Despite their efforts, the claims linking the book to them were accurate. In response, Tsarist Russia undertook a severe campaign against the Zionists, resulting in the deaths of ten thousand individuals in a single massacre. The book underwent a reprinting in 1905, which quickly sold out in an unusual and covert manner, as Zionist groups procured copies from the market and incinerated them. A subsequent edition was released in 1911, but, similar to the earlier instance, copies vanished. In 1917, another printing occurred, yet it was seized by the communists following their ascension to power in Russia and the overthrow of the tsarist regime. A copy of the 1905 Russian edition found its way to the British Museum in London, where it was stamped in 1906. This copy remained largely overlooked until the communist coup in Russia in 1916 prompted the “Morning Post” to request updates from its correspondent, Victor Madson, who then examined various Russian publications. He dedicated his efforts to translating the work into English, subsequently publishing it in that language. The book saw five printings, the most recent occurring in 1921, yet no publisher in either Britain or America was willing to take on the project. Despite the efforts of Zionists to suppress the book, it was published in various languages, such as German, French, Italian, and Polish. The English edition from 1921 served as the basis for its first translation into Arabic, which was released in 1951″. [9]

Thus, in evaluating the perceived weaknesses of Muslims in relation to the rise of Jews, it is essential to consider the broader context and the various factors involved. The Jewish migration during the period referenced by Samuel was not solely a result of their leaders’ actions or inactions. Instead, the emergence of Zionism and its strategic objectives played a significant role in shaping the events of that time. Therefore, attributing the Muslims’ inability to respond effectively only to the circumstances surrounding the Jews migration overlooks the fact that the Ummah was also grappling with the constraints of colonialism, which, interestingly, provided substantial advantages to the Zionists, as will be explored further in this article.

Samuel said: Hamas is the product of a deep and ongoing debate within the Muslim world, a debate that has raged for the last 150 years and dwarfs the magnitude of any of the discussions we find in Western academia today. This debate is not just political but a profound theological reckoning. It revolves around a critical question: Why has Islam become weak? This question became particularly pressing after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent rise of Western powers in the Middle East (Britain and France). [end of quote]

Response: Hamas cannot be viewed as a standalone entity in the context of distinguishing truth from falsehood, as the correct path is clearly outlined in the sacred texts of the Qur’an and the Sunnah, as interpreted and practiced by the Prophet’s companions, peace and blessings be upon him. Instead, Hamas represents a deviation from the Prophet’s creed and methodology in confronting Islam’s adversaries. The discussions surrounding political and theological issues do not stem from Islam itself; rather, they emerged following a departure from the ways of the righteous predecessors. The pressing question is not only why Muslims are divided in facing their enemies, but rather why they do not return to the Qur’an and the Sunnah to resolve their differences, as Allah has instructed them to do. Allah said:

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ فَإِن تَنَٰزَعْتُمْ فِى شَىْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا

O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and those in authority over you. And if you disagree among yourselves over anything then refer it back to Allāh and the Messenger if you truly believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is better (conduct) and (leads to) the most excellent outcome. [10]

Allah said:

Samuel said: The crucial divergence here is that Islam took a leap that Judaism did not. Muslims believed that being powerful in history meant being in sync with the divine plan and aligned with the divine trajectory. Response: Islam is not comparable to Judaism because, following the arrival of the seal of the Prophets, all previous scriptures and laws were rendered obsolete. Additionally, earlier texts have been altered and corrupted. The early Muslims did not follow Allah’s path blindly or hesitate in their commitment; they made a conscious decision to dedicate themselves. They trusted in Allah’s promise to the righteous, knowing that He fulfills His promises completely. Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. The devout predecessors were not simply taking risks or making bold choices; they were obeying a divine directive to deliver the ultimate message, regardless of the repercussions, because they had unwavering faith in Allah. Any weakness observed cannot be blamed on Islam itself, as the religion remains strong, flawless, and unerring, with compelling evidence that is applicable across all times, places, and situations. Response: A clear distinction must be made between Islam and Muslims when discussing the challenges faced by Muslims. The weakness observed is not a reflection of Islam itself, but rather a result of neglecting or compromising its teachings. Similar to the experiences of Bani Israel, who faced periods of strength when they followed their prophets and weakness when they strayed, Muslims have undergone similar cycles. The remedy is straightforward for those who listen to the final Messenger’s guidance on the issue. True revival cannot be achieved through innovative methodologies like those of the Kharijites, Al-Qaeda, the misguided Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, or nationalism. Instead, sound revival and strength can only be realised through the approach of the Prophet’s companions. Any alternative, regardless of its claims to represent Islam, is destined to fail. As for the Ottomans, their rise and fall was clearly due to the extensive external and internal pressures they faced, alongside their gradual departure from the piety of their early leaders who spread the faith fearlessly. It is overly simplistic to claim that the Ottomans could not defend Egypt without considering the significant external and internal factors contributing to their decline. Colonialism was rampant, with many Muslim nations already suffering under the brutal onslaught of colonisers, compounded by the infiltration of outsiders who finally corrupted the Young Turks. The story of how the Zionists aimed to undermine Sultan Abdul Hamid II and the later corruption among the Young Turks is well known.

When the Zionists, in the late 1800s, advocated for the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, Sultan Abdül-Hamid II implemented various measures aimed at thwarting this initiative. Nevertheless, following the sultan’s deposition and the rise of the Young Turks to power, the movement gained traction and began to proliferate throughout the area. The aforementioned links present the names of some notable British politicians who supported the Zionist movement both from a theological and political perspective, influenced by the British Empire. Many contemporary historians have noted that as the Zionist efforts became more prominent, the British recognised the growing strength of this movement and proposed territories such as Uganda, Siberia, and Cyprus. However, these offers were declined, as the Zionists sought Palestine instead. Many Turkish historians assert that in 1871, prior to any significant actions by the Zionists, the Ottomans designated 80 percent of Palestine as state property. Subsequently, Sultan Abdul Hamid II implemented stricter measures to prevent Jewish settlement in Palestine. By 1883, he imposed restrictions on the acquisition of land in Palestine and opted to retain control over this strategically important territory.

He additionally forbade the acquisition of land by foreign Jews within the Ottoman Empire, including Palestine. It was asserted that the Ottoman Empire was not a resettlement area for individuals exiled from Europe. Prominent Zionists, including Theodor Herzl, who was at the forefront of the Zionist movement, sought a meeting with Sultan Abdul Hamid II. When this request was turned down, he conveyed his proposal to the sultan through his close associate, Polish Phillip Newlinsky, in May 1901. They proposed to settle the Ottoman Empire’s foreign debts and to offer support to the Sultan in Europe in return for the opening of Palestinian territories to Jewish settlement and the transfer of governance to the Jewish community. The sultan rejected the proposal, stating, “I will not part with anything, not even a fraction of this land, for this nation does not belong solely to me but to all Ottomans. My people acquired these territories through their sacrifices. We offer what we possess in the same manner as it was originally obtained.” Herzl reiterated his proposal the subsequent year, yet the response remained unchanged.

During that period, certain territories still under Ottoman rule were home to the largest Jewish population in the world, who enjoyed a degree of freedom. Thessaloniki, then part of the Ottoman Empire, was recognised as the largest Jewish city globally. In 1909, the Young Turks overthrew Sultan Abdülhamid II, subsequently exiling him to Thessaloniki, where he was confined in the residence of a Jewish banker named Allatini. The properties belonging to the sultan were nationalised, and the Young Turks permitted prominent Zionist figures to settle in Palestine. Among the Young Turks were numerous Freemasons and Sabbateans. Notably, Emmanuel Carasso, a Jewish banker and Freemason, was a close associate of Grand Vizier Talat Pasha and was part of the delegation that informed Sultan Abdl-Hamid II of his removal from power.

Thessaloniki’s deputy, Carasso, emerged as a prominent figure of his era and played a crucial role in facilitating Jewish migration to Palestine. The Young Turks repaid their obligations by assisting Carasso in amassing wealth and enabling him to engage in a black market for food during the Great War. In 1917, this group reached an agreement with British Foreign Minister Arthur Balfour. The subsequent Balfour Declaration signified the British Empire’s endorsement of the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestinian territories. Following World War II, the lands that had belonged to Sultan Abdülhamid and were appropriated by the Young Turks came under British control. This British occupation led to an increase in Jewish settlement in Palestine, allowing Jews to acquire land. Meanwhile, Arabs faced economic pressures that compelled them to sell their properties.

Sultan Abdul Hamid reportedly stated on September 22, 1913, “I relinquished my position as Khalifah due to the oppression and intimidation from the Young Turks. This faction pressured me to endorse the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, which I firmly opposed. They ultimately proposed a sum of 150 million British gold pieces, which I also declined, asserting: ‘I would never consent to your demands, even if you offered not just 150 million British gold, but all the gold in the world. I have dedicated over 30 years to serving the Muslim community and have not betrayed my ancestors.’ Following my definitive refusal, they proceeded with my dethronement and exiled me to Thessaloniki.” By 1947, the Jewish population in Palestine had surpassed half of the total population, and a considerable portion of the land was under their control. The subsequent move was towards independence, as certain Jewish groups compelled the British to withdraw from the region. A referendum resulted in the decision to establish a Jewish state, which was ratified by the United Nations in 1948.

Therefore, Samuel’s assertion regarding the weakened state of the Ottoman Empire, rather, he should have called it the remnants of the Ottoman Empire, which rendered it incapable of defending Egypt from British intervention, is insufficiently detailed. A more comprehensive discussion of the circumstances contributing to this decline is essential, particularly the treachery of the Young Turks and their exploitation by wealthy Zionists. This aspect, along with other factors that had already compromised the latter Ottoman Empire—such as issues of religious creed and the adoption of Sufism and other innovations—constitutes a significant recipe for vulnerability, defeat, and eventual catastrophe.

Samuel said: Muhammad Rashid Rida was a prominent Islamic scholar, reformer, and thinker in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He played a significant role in the intellectual and political discourse of his time, advocating for Islamic renewal and the establishment of Salafi Islam in the modern age. He also taught several important Palestinian leaders, such as Haj Amin al-Husseini and Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, for whom Hamas’s military brigades are named. Samuel said: Rida wrote an astonishing letter in a journal in 1898 called Al-Manar, one of the most influential journals in the Arab world at the time. In this letter, he addressed Palestinian Arabs and called them “complacent nothings.” It was not a polite letter; he was enraged with the Arabs of Palestine following the first Zionist Congress, whose minutes Rida followed very carefully. Initially, he was pro-Zionist, thinking that Zionists and Muslims could team up to expel the Christian empires from the Middle East. However, he later turned against Zionism when he realized it aimed to establish a Jewish nation-state, to turn Jews into a sovereign people rather than aid the birth of another Muslim state “from the river to the sea.”

Rida was concerned not with Palestinian nationalism—because such a movement did not yet exist—but with the theological implications of Jewish success. He wrote to the Arabs of Palestine, saying, “You are going to allow the weakest of all nations, the paupers of the earth, those expelled from every land in civilization, to push you back and become masters in your land.”

For Rida, the issue was not about rights or military occupation. As a Muslim theologian living under British rule, he found it inconvenient and theologically problematic but tolerable given the British Empire’s power. [end of quote]

Response: Whatever Rida wrote, regardless of some truth in it, would not have led to any success, as his approach did not align with the principles established by the righteous predecessors.

Samuel said: However, if the Jews of 1898—who were fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe, arriving in New York Harbor with nothing and those who were living as second class citizens throughout the Arab world—could push Islam back, it signified an intolerable disaster of Islamic weakness. This explains why groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis view the destruction of Israel as so crucial. They believe that Islam’s current weakness is due to its impiety and distance from God. They argue that by returning to God’s grace, Islam will regain its strength. Destroying Israel, which they see as a symbol of Islamic weakness, would be the first step in this process. The epiphenomenon of Israel’s presence, in more recent times, as an immovable actor who could not be manipulated only added to the necessity of its destruction.

When Westerners used to gaze upon Hamas and say things like, “Well, you know, they’re extremists, but they might moderate over time,” there was an implicit assumption that the group’s motivations were nothing more than raw, unexamined emotions driven by political grievances. This view was predicated on the belief that if one approached them with enough empathy, kindness, and economic benefits, they might somehow evolve into more moderate actors. But the reality is that all of this radicalism, not just found in Hamas but sitting at the heart of the Palestinian cause, is not a product of external circumstances or temporary emotions; it is a manifestation of a carefully considered, long-standing ideological framework that, for the sake of its own standing, cannot accept sovereign Jews and, as such, the existence of the State of Israel. Response: The persecution faced by Jews in 1898 is intricately linked to a series of events, including the Zionist plans discovered by Russians at the time. Conversely, many scholars of Islam have stated that the perceived weakness among Muslims—distinct from any inherent flaw in Islam—primarily stems from factors outlined in final revelation, which contributed to European domination. Thus, this weakness, exacerbated by colonialism, is largely a result of many Muslims straying from the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and failing to resolve their affairs through it, unlike the pious predecessors. Additionally, during this period, a significant development in Europe facilitated the Zionist agenda: the collaboration between Jewish and Christian Zionists. To analyse Muslim weakness without considering these underlying causes and the various stakeholders involved would leave us with an incomplete understanding of the historical context. The political and theological partnership between Jewish Zionism and influential Christian Zionists within the British Empire was pivotal, and relevant connections have been previously outlined.

It is important to clarify that the crisis at hand is not one of Islam itself, nor is there an inherent identity crisis within the religion. As we noted earlier, the real issue lies with those who have strayed from the teachings of the righteous predecessors. These individuals, whether intentionally or out of ignorance, fail to recognise the singular approach of these early scholars and pious predecessors. Consequently, the identity crisis affects only those who reject a return to the Sunnah, including groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, the Rafidah of Iran, Al Qaeda, and others. These factions either perpetuate weakness through their flawed methodologies or serve as instruments for Zionists and other adversaries of Islam, who aim to tarnish the religion’s image and undermine the morale of Muslims.

The downfall of any nation is in the hands of Allah alone and not in the hands of Hamas, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, the Muslim Brotherhood Sect or other deviated sects. The early Muslims, particularly the first three generations of Islam, did not aim to annihilate any community, instead, they spread the principles of justice inherent in Islam, adhering closely to the Prophet’s teachings. and remained resolute against those who sought to divert humanity from the path of Allah. It was this commitment to justice and unwavering dedication to pleasing Allah that brought them strength and success, emphasising the importance of worshiping Allah alone, following the Sunnah, and treating even adversaries with fairness. It is clear that the weakness observed among Muslims stems from a lack of piety, not from Islam itself. Ironically, some those who make such claims among the Rafidah and others embrace practices that reflect a departure from true faith. Imam Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The latter part of this Muslim nation will not be rectified except through that which rectified its early part, as the people of knowledge and sound faith have stated. This is a statement of Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, – the well-known scholar of sound understanding and piety. Many other people of knowledge reported this statement during and after his era and they all agreed with it- that ‘’The latter part of this Muslim nation will not be rectified except by way of that which rectified its earlier part.” This means that the path followed by its earlier generations -the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His noble Messenger- is what will rectify its future generations until the Day of Judgement. The one who wishes to rectify an Islamic society, or any other society in this worldly life through other than the path and practical steps that rectified those who have preceded [i.e. the Prophet and his companions], then such a person is mistaken and has spoken untruth. There is no path [to rectification] other than the path [of the Messenger and his companions]. The only path of rectification and uprightness is the one that was followed by our Prophet and his noble companions, and then those who follow them exactly in righteousness till this era of ours. [12]

We ask Allah to guide us to everything that will rectify our religious and worldly affairs, protect us from deviation and enable us to follow the path that will return the Ummah to strength and victory, remove the oppression of the Palestinians and all other Muslims facing the persecution and brutality of the callous one among humankind Aameen.

Insights From a Famous Hadith of Hudaifah – By Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

All praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allāh’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions.  To proceed: Indeed, the hadith that will be addressed – in this lecture – is the hadith of Hudhaifah Bin Al-Yaman, may Allah be pleased with him. He said: 

People used to ask Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about the good times, but I used to ask him about bad times fearing lest they overtake me.  I said, “O Messenger of Allah! We were in a state of pre-Islamic ignorance and evil, and then Allah brought us this good (time through Islam), is there any evil time after this good one?” He said, “Yes” I asked, “Will there be a good time again after that evil?” He said, “Yes, but therein will be a hidden evil”. I asked, “What will be the evil hidden therein?” He said, “People who will follow ways other than mine and seek guidance other than mine. You will know (their) good points as well as (their) bad points”. I asked, “Will there be an evil time after this good one?” He said, “Yes, when there will be people standing and inviting at the gates of Hell. Whosoever responds to their call they will throw them into the fire”. I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Describe them for us”. He said, “They will be a people having the same complexion as ours and speaking our language”. I said, “O Messenger of Allah! What would you suggest if I happened to live in that time?” He said, “You should stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader”. I said, “If they have no main body and no leader?” He said, “Separate yourself from all these factions, though you may have to eat the roots of trees (in a jungle) until death comes to you and you are in this state”. A Subtle Poison, A Silent Doom: A Grave Warning to Those With Expertise In The Worldly Sciences Before It Is Too Late

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

Quote: The most profound evils of knowledge and its inconsistencies arise from engaging with creation without recognizing its Creator, understanding effects without acknowledging the One who brought them into being, examining causes without considering the one who initiated those causes, and exploring paths without clear objectives. The deficiencies inherent in this type of engagement are numerous, and the harm it causes is considerable. Indeed, many atheists, along with those misled by them, are knowledgeable in the natural sciences; however, they confine themselves to this knowledge and remain unaware of its connection to the Creator and the ultimate Cause. Moreover, regarding the wonders and secrets present in these natural sciences, they see themselves as the sole possessors of such knowledge—believing that no one else understands the marvels of the natural sciences or the secrets that Allāh has embedded in nature. This perception elevates their status above others, leading them to become afflicted with arrogance and self-deception. They limit their understanding to this domain, viewing it as the ultimate conclusion, purpose, and goal, which ultimately leads to profound deviation and a lack of depth in both knowledge and intellect.

Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali – [98]

He, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “Fill the world with knowledge. People are in need of this knowledge”. [Awn Al-Bari 1/70]

He, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “I have been waging war against Irjaa since I began my journey in knowledge and I will do so -InShaAllah- until I meet Allah”. [Majmu 2/177

He, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “The people of falsehood have tried and clashed against the rock of Salafiyyah; their horns have shattered. So, they resorted to this cunning method of pretending to be Salafi and claiming Salafiyyah”. [Al-Majmu 1/454]

A reminder to alarmists and earth worshippers

Allah stated that Prophet, Ibrahim, peace be upon him, said to his people:

وَڪَيۡفَ أَخَافُ مَآ أَشۡرَڪۡتُمۡ وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمۡ أَشۡرَكۡتُم بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ عَلَيۡڪُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬ا‌ۚ فَأَىُّ ٱلۡفَرِيقَيۡنِ أَحَقُّ بِٱلۡأَمۡنِ‌ۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ

And how should I fear those whom you associate in worship with Allah (though they can neither benefit nor harm), while you fear not that you have joined in worship with Allah things for which He has not sent down to you any authority. (So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know.” It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided. [Al-An’aam. 81-82]

[وَڪَيۡفَ أَخَافُ مَآ أَشۡرَڪۡتُمۡ – Why should I fear that which you ascribe as partners to [Allah]? – Meaning, when its state is that of inability and cannot benefit.

[وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمۡ أَشۡرَكۡتُم بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ عَلَيۡڪُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬ا‌ۚ – whilst you do not fear ascribing partners to Allah for which He has not sent down to you any authority], meaning, you do so solely due to following desires! [فَأَىُّ ٱلۡفَرِيقَيۡنِ أَحَقُّ بِٱلۡأَمۡنِ‌ۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ – (So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know?] Then differentiated the two parties and stated: [ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَلَمۡ يَلۡبِسُوٓاْ إِيمَـٰنَهُم بِظُلۡمٍ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡأَمۡنُ وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ – It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided] -Meaning, safe from fear, punishment and misery, and they will be guided to the straight path. [1]

Allah [The Exalted] said: [سَنُلۡقِى فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱلرُّعۡبَ بِمَآ أَشۡرَڪُواْ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬ا‌ۖ – We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they ascribe partners to Allah, for which He had sent no authority]. [Aal Imran. 151]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The level of Shirk determines the level of fear, and the one who ascribes a partner with Allah has the greatest fear and terror. Those who believe and do not mix their belief with Shirk have safety, guidance and success and the one who ascribes a partner to Allah has fear, misguidance and wretchedness”. [2]

The Earth Is Our Place of Residence Until Our Lord Decides to Destroy It

Allah, The Exalted, said:

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمۡ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِرَٰشً۬ا وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بِنَآءً۬ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً۬ فَأَخۡرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٲتِ رِزۡقً۬ا لَّكُمۡ‌ۖ فَلَا تَجۡعَلُواْ لِلَّهِ أَندَادً۬ا وَأَنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ

O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), Who created you and those who were before you so that you may become pious; who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. Then do not set up rivals unto Allah (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped). [Surah Al-Baqarah. 21-22]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَإِذۡ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةِ ٱسۡجُدُواْ لِأَدَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ (٣٤) وَقُلۡنَا يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ ٱسۡكُنۡ أَنتَ وَزَوۡجُكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنۡهَا رَغَدًا حَيۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا وَلَا تَقۡرَبَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ (٣٥) فَأَزَلَّهُمَا ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنُ عَنۡہَا فَأَخۡرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ‌ۖ وَقُلۡنَا ٱهۡبِطُواْ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوٌّ۬‌ۖ وَلَكُمۡ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُسۡتَقَرٌّ۬ وَمَتَـٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ۬ (٣٦) فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ (٣٧) قُلۡنَا ٱهۡبِطُواْ مِنۡہَا جَمِيعً۬ا‌ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأۡتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدً۬ى فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَاىَ فَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡہِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُونَ (٣٨) وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ‌ۖ هُمۡ فِيہَا خَـٰلِدُونَ (٣٩)

And (remember) when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves before Adam.”. And they prostrated except Iblis (Satan), he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers (disobedient to Allah). And We said: “O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight of things therein as wherever you will, but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zalimun (wrong-doers).” Then the Shaitan (Satan) made them slip therefrom (the Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were. We said: “Get you down, all, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time.” Then Adam received from his Lord Words . And his Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily, He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the Most Merciful. We said: “Get down all of you from this place (the Paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance, there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve. But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever. [Al-Baqarah. 34-39]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَكُمۡ خَلَـٰٓٮِٕفَ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ فَمَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَيۡهِ كُفۡرُهُۖ ۥ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ كُفۡرُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّہِمۡ إِلَّا مَقۡتً۬اۖ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ كُفۡرُهُمۡ إِلَّا خَسَارً۬ا

He it is Who has made you successors generations after generations in the earth, so whosoever disbelieves (in Islamic Monotheism) on him will be his disbelief. And the disbelief of the disbelievers adds nothing but hatred with their Lord. And the disbelief of the disbelievers adds nothing but loss. [Fatir. 39]

The purveyors of unfounded fears and climate hysteria distract from the profound truths articulated in the preceding verses, which illuminate the essence of existence. They amplify concerns regarding the earth physical condition, oblivious to the reality that one must ready themselves for the inevitable conclusion of this ephemeral life. There is no return to this life; rather, the final destination after departure will either be the eternal Paradise or Hellfire. As

Allah, The Exalted, said:

إِنَّ لَدَيۡنَآ أَنكَالاً۬ وَجَحِيمً۬ا
وَطَعَامً۬ا ذَا غُصَّةٍ۬ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمً۬ا
يَوۡمَ تَرۡجُفُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَثِيبً۬ا مَّهِيلاً

Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. [Al-Muzzammil. 12-14]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكًّ۬ا دَكًّ۬ا (٢١) وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفًّ۬ا صَفًّ۬ا (٢٢) وَجِاْىٓءَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ‌ۚ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ يَتَذَڪَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ (٢٣) يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيۡتَنِى قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِى (٢٤) فَيَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ ۥۤ أَحَدٌ۬ (٢٥) وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ ۥۤ أَحَدٌ۬ (٢٦) يَـٰٓأَيَّتُہَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَٮِٕنَّةُ (٢٧) ٱرۡجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً۬ مَّرۡضِيَّةً۬ (٢٨) فَٱدۡخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى (٢٩) وَٱدۡخُلِى جَنَّتِى (٣٠)

Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, and your Lord comes with the angels in rows, and Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? He will say: “Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!” So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. And none will bind as He will bind. (It will be said to the pious): “O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! “Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! “Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, and enter you My Paradise!” [Al-Fajr. 21-30]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ يَوۡمَ يُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ۬ قَرِيبٍ۬ (٤١) يَوۡمَ يَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ (٤٢) إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِيرُ (٤٣) يَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡہُمۡ سِرَاعً۬ا‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَيۡنَا يَسِيرٌ۬ (٤٤) نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ‌ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيۡہِم بِجَبَّارٍ۬‌ۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ (٤٥)

And listen on the Day when the caller will call from a near place; The Day when they will hear As-Saihah (shout, etc.) in truth, that will be the Day of coming out (from the graves i.e. the Day of Resurrection). Verily, We it is Who give life and cause death; and to Us is the final return; on the Day when the earth shall be cleft, from off them, (they will come out) hastening forth. That will be a gathering, quite easy for Us. We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad ) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Qur’an, him who fears My Threat. [Qaf. 41-45]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ (١) لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِہَا كَاذِبَةٌ (٢) خَافِضَةٌ۬ رَّافِعَةٌ (٣) إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجًّ۬ا (٤) وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسًّ۬ا (٥) فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءً۬ مُّنۢبَثًّ۬ا (٦) وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٲجً۬ا ثَلَـٰثَةً۬ (٧) فَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ (٨) وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ (٩) وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ (١٠) أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ (١١) فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ (١٢)

When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. And there can be no denying of its befalling. It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; when the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. And the mountains will be powdered to dust. So that they will become floating dust particles. And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). These will be those nearest to Allah. In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). [Al-Waqi’ah. 1-12]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَيَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَفَزِعَ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَّا مَن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ وَكُلٌّ أَتَوۡهُ دَٲخِرِينَ (٨٧) وَتَرَى ٱلۡجِبَالَ تَحۡسَبُہَا جَامِدَةً۬ وَهِىَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ ٱلسَّحَابِ‌ۚ صُنۡعَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَتۡقَنَ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَفۡعَلُونَ (٨٨) مَن جَآءَ بِٱلۡحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ ۥ خَيۡرٌ۬ مِّنۡہَا وَهُم مِّن فَزَعٍ۬ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ ءَامِنُونَ (٨٩) وَمَن جَآءَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ فَكُبَّتۡ وُجُوهُهُمۡ فِى ٱلنَّارِ هَلۡ تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ (٩٠)

And (remember) the Day on which the Trumpet will be blown and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth, will be terrified except him whom Allah will (exempt). And all shall come to Him humbled. And you will see the mountains and think them solid, but they shall pass away as the passing away of the clouds. The Work of Allah, Who perfected all things, verily! He is Well-Acquainted with what you do. Whoever brings a good deed (i.e. Belief in the Oneness of Allah along with every deed of righteousness), will have better than its worth, and they will be safe from the terror on that Day. And whoever brings an evil (deed) (i.e. Shirk polytheism, disbelief in the Oneness of Allah and every evil sinful deed), they will be cast down (prone) on their faces in the Fire. (And it will be said to them) “Are you being recompensed anything except what you used to do?” [An-Naml. 87-90]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَصَعِقَ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَّا مَن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ‌ۖ ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِيهِ أُخۡرَىٰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ قِيَامٌ۬ يَنظُرُونَ (٦٨) وَأَشۡرَقَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِنُورِ رَبِّہَا وَوُضِعَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ وَجِاْىٓءَ بِٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَٱلشُّہَدَآءِ وَقُضِىَ بَيۡنَہُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا يُظۡلَمُونَ (٦٩) وَوُفِّيَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسٍ۬ مَّا عَمِلَتۡ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يَفۡعَلُونَ (٧٠)

And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away, except him whom Allah will. Then it will blown a second time and behold, they will be standing, looking on (waiting). And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord (Allah, when He will come to judge among men) and the Book will be placed (open) and the Prophets and the witnesses will be brought forward, and it will be judged between them with truth, and they will not be wronged. And each person will be paid in full of what he did; and He is Best Aware of what they do. [Az-Zumar. 68-70]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

فَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِفَ وَعۡدِهِۦ رُسُلَهُ ۥۤ‌ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ۬ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ۬ (٤٧) يَوۡمَ تُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتُ‌ۖ وَبَرَزُواْ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡوَٲحِدِ ٱلۡقَهَّارِ (٤٨) وَتَرَى ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ مُّقَرَّنِينَ فِى ٱلۡأَصۡفَادِ (٤٩) سَرَابِيلُهُم مِّن قَطِرَانٍ۬ وَتَغۡشَىٰ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ (٥٠) لِيَجۡزِىَ ٱللَّهُ كُلَّ نَفۡسٍ۬ مَّا كَسَبَتۡ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ (٥١) هَـٰذَا بَلَـٰغٌ۬ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِيُنذَرُواْ بِهِۦ وَلِيَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهٌ۬ وَٲحِدٌ۬ وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ (٥٢)

So think not that Allah will fail to keep His Promise to His Messengers. Certainly, Allah is All-Mighty, – All-Able of Retribution. On the Day when the earth will be changed to another earth and so will be the heavens, and they (all creatures) will appear before Allah, the One, the Irresistible. And you will see the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism, polytheists, disobedient to Allah, etc.) that Day bound together in fetters; [Muqarranun in fetters; mean:- with their hands and feet tied to their necks with chains.] Their garments will be of pitch, and fire will cover their faces. That Allah may requite each person according to what he has earned. Truly, Allah is Swift at reckoning. This (Qur’an) is a Message for mankind (and a clear proof against them), in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is the only One Ilah (God – Allah) – (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), and that men of understanding may take heed. [Ibrahim. Verses 47-52]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةٌ۬ وَٲحِدَةٌ۬ (١٣) وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ (١٤) فَيَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ (١٥) وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ وَاهِيَةٌ۬ (١٦) وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآٮِٕهَا‌ۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ۬ (١٧) يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةٌ۬ (١٨)

Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one), and the earth and the mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing; then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall; and the heaven will split asunder, for that Day it (the heaven will be frail (weak), and torn up, and the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them. That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. [Al-Haqqah. 13-18]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ (١) وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّہَا وَحُقَّتۡ (٢) وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ (٣) وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيہَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ (٤) وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّہَا وَحُقَّتۡ (٥) يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحً۬ا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ (٦) فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُ ۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ (٧) فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابً۬ا يَسِيرً۬ا (٨) وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورً۬ا (٩) وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُ ۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ (١٠) فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورً۬ا (١١) وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا (١٢) إِنَّهُ ۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا (١٣) إِنَّهُ ۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ (١٤) بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ ۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرً۬ا (١٥)

When the heaven is split asunder, and listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; and when the earth is stretched forth; and has cast out all that was in it and became empty; and listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, he surely will receive an easy reckoning, and will return to his family in joy! But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, he will invoke (his) destruction, and shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. Verily, he was among his people in joy! Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! [Al-Inshiqaq. 1-15]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا (١) وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا (٢) وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ مَا لَهَا (٣) يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا (٤) بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا (٥) يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتً۬ا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ (٦) فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرً۬ا يَرَهُ ۥ (٧) وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ۬ شَرًّ۬ا يَرَهُ ۥ (٨)

When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. And when the earth throws out its burdens, and man will say: “What is the matter with it?” That Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil). Because your Lord has inspired it. That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds. So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. [Surah Az-Zalzalah]

It is essential to prioritise constructive dialogue over fear-based narratives regarding the preservation of the earth. We must not instill in our children the notion that immediate action is the only path to prevent the earth from becoming irreparably damaged or uninhabitable due to purported climate change influences. While it is undeniable that the release of toxic substances from industries into our waters and the environment poses significant health risks and ecological harm, such actions will not lead to the annihilation of the earth or render it uninhabitable. The only true determinants of our climate are those outlined in this lecture [Footnote a] and the earth’s destruction will take place only when all signs of the day of Judgement manifest, as mentioned by the seal of the Prophets, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Sick of the arrogance and vanity of some American Ideologues, Demagogues & Rabble Rousers: We demand from them: “Stop the sun from setting today or to rise from the West tomorrow if you are All-Powerful”

Allah, The Almighty, said:

فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَكَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ

As for ‘Ad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: “Who is mightier than us in strength?” See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)! [Fussilat 15]

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

This is a detailed account of the story of the two nations, Aad and Thamud. As for Aad, they were arrogant in the earth, together with their disbelief in Allah, their denial of His signs, and their rejection of His messengers. They subdued those – the servants of Allah – around them, oppressed them and were self-amazed with their strength.

[وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً – They said: “Who is mightier than us in strength?”] In response, Allah reminded them of a fundamental truth known to all: [أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً – See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them]. If Allah did not create them, they would not have existed. Had they contemplated their situation in a correct manner, they would not have been deceived by their own power, thus, Allah punished them in a manner befitting the strength in which they had placed their misguided trust. Imam Al-Baghawi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The statement of the Almighty: [فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً – As for Aad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: “Who is mightier than us in strength?”] This was in response to Prophet Hud, peace be upon him, who warned them of impending punishment. They arrogantly claimed that their strength could protect them from such retribution, boasting of their tall and powerful physiques. In response, Allah said to them: [أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَكَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ – See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)] [2]

Imam Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Allah, The Exalted, said: [فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ – As for Aad, they were arrogant in the land without right]- Meaning, rebellious, insolent and disobedient.

[وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً – They said: “Who is mightier than us in strength?] Meaning, believing that their physical strength and capabilities would protect them from Allah’s punishment. [أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً – – See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them]- Meaning, they did not reflect on the fact that Allah, who created them, is indeed stronger than they are! Did they not contemplate the One against whom they openly declared their enmity? For indeed, He (Allah) is Al-Adheem (Footnote a) who created all things and endowed them with the strength to exist, and His punishment is indeed severe. [3]

Imam Al-Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The statement of Allah, The Exalted:[فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ – As for Aad, they were arrogant in the land] – without right – towards the servants of Allah, (towards) Prophet Hud, peace be upon him, and those who believed in him. [وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً – They said: “Who is mightier than us in strength?] They were deceived by their physical stature when faced with the threat of punishment, saying: “We are able to avert the punishment from ourselves by virtue of our strength”. This was due to their tall and mighty physiques. It has already been stated in the explanation of Surah Al-A’raf” (based on a report) by Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, that the tallest among them was one hundred cubits, while the shortest was sixty cubits. In response, Allah said to them: [أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً – See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them] and in ability, rather, the ability of a person is contingent upon Allah’s power, and indeed, Allah is the most capable. [4]

فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِىٓ أَيَّامٍ نَّحِسَاتٍ لِّنُذِيقَهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْخِزْىِ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ أَخْزَىٰ وَهُمْ لَا يُنصَرُونَ

So We sent upon them furious wind in days of evil omen (for them) that We might give them a taste of disgracing torment in this present worldly life, but surely the torment of the Hereafter will be more disgracing, and they will never be helped. [Fussilat 16]

Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him, said, Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Verily, Allah will give respite to the oppressor until when He seizes him and he cannot escape”. Then he [i.e. the Messenger] recited the verse:

[وَكَذَٲلِكَ أَخۡذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَآ أَخَذَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَهِىَ ظَـٰلِمَةٌ‌ۚ إِنَّ أَخۡذَهُ ۥۤ أَلِيمٌ۬ شَدِيدٌ – Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful, and severe]. [Hud. 102]

Al-Allamah Zaid Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

There is a warning against oppression in this lofty hadith- oppression against oneself through different levels and types of sins. The one whom Allah has given wealth, good health, safety and stability while he persists upon sin, this is Allah’s plan in stages against this sinner because he deserves it- وَلَا يَظۡلِمُ رَبُّكَ أَحَدً۬ا – And your Lord treats no one with injustice. [Al-Kahf. 49]

There’s a warning – in this hadith – against oppressing others because the one who oppresses others is called an oppressor and the one who oppresses himself through sins is called an oppressor. Therefore, the one who oppresses himself and the one who oppresses others are (exposed) to great danger in this life, in the grave and in the afterlife. If Allah gives him respite and does not hasten punishment against him, then indeed Allah reserves for him the punishment he deserves due to the statement of Allah:

[وَكَذَٲلِكَ أَخۡذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَآ أَخَذَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَهِىَ ظَـٰلِمَةٌ‌ۚ إِنَّ أَخۡذَهُ ۥۤ أَلِيمٌ۬ شَدِيدٌ – Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful, and severe].

This is how the hadith is in agreement with the noble verse, that if Allah gives respite to an oppressor, it is not that Allah has neglected his affair. If Allah delays punishment against him in the worldly life, Allah multiplies it for him in the hereafter, thus, he is recompensed based on what he did and the evil deeds he committed. Allah is the possessor of (perfect) wisdom, because He recompenses a doer based on his deed- good recompense for good deeds and evil recompense for evil deeds. [5]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Everyone with a bit of (sound) intellect knows that the corruption of the world and its ruin occurs due to giving precedence to opinion over the divine revelation and (vain) desires over sound intellect. These two corrupt motives are not entrenched in a heart except that its destruction becomes inevitable nor in a nation except that its affairs are completely corrupted. [6]

The Imam also said:

Whoever contemplates the state of the world will recognise that every instance of rectification stems from Tawhid, singling out Allah in worship and obedience to His Messenger, Muhammad. Conversely, every form of evil, trial, hardship, scarcity in sustenance, and subjugation by adversaries, among other issues, arises from opposing the Messenger and the pursuit of paths other than those prescribed by Allah and His Messenger. Whoever truly  contemplates this matter and examines the world’s conditions from its inception until the time Allah ends it, he will realise this about himself and others, both in general and in specific situations. Indeed, there is no might or power except with Allah – The Most High, The Most Great. [7]

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Industrialisation and modern inventions; everyone has participated in it – the righteous, the wicked, the believer and the disbeliever. As for religion and manners in this era, it has greatly declined. When this industrial advancement is devoid of (sound) religion and faith, it became a great harm from two angles: firstly, it beguiled many people, who – due of their ignorance – think that worldly advancement is proof to show that its people are more worthy of achieving every good than others. They are clearly misguided because a person maybe from the most skillful in matters related to the material world, whilst he is one of the most ignorant people in matters related to the (sound) religion, virtuous manners and the (other) beneficial affairs in this life and the next. Secondly, when these inventions are devoid of (sound) religion, its mercy and wisdom, it becomes a great disaster for humankind due to the wars that resulted from them- killing, destruction and other matters related to it. Its overseers and scholars are unable to laydown – for humankind -a stable, just and good life; rather they have not ceased moving from one miserable state to another. This is inevitable and the continuous state of affairs shows this. Therefore, all good is found in the sound religion and all evil is found in rejecting and willfully denying (Allah, His Messengers, His Laws, Guidance, Commands, Prohibitions etc).

Indeed, it is impossible to rectify the souls and acquire virtue solely through the worldly sciences. Experience and clearly witnessed circumstances are the greatest proofs regarding this affair, because despite its advancement and vastness it has been unable to nurture and rectify the souls, which is the determinant of (sound) rectification and success.

The Remedy: What the Religion of Islam propagates is that which is entrusted with this rectification; it is what will guide the thoughts towards the truthful and authentic sources of knowledge, guide the actions of the people towards good and prevent them from evil. Islam is The Rectifier of the Creeds and Manners- the thing that cultivates the thoughts, urges towards virtuousness and prevents from depravity.

The essence of that which the religion calls to – regarding belief in the Unseen, which includes belief in Allah and that which He possesses of Names, Attributes and Actions of perfection; belief in Angels, belief in recompense for one’s good and bad deeds in this life and the next, which cannot be known except through the Messengers, is what acquaints a person with the fact that rectification – in reality – is not possible through other than sound belief and the religion of Islam. Thus, even if the worldly sciences rectify (some) matters based upon that which people know in detail, it will still not be equal to the knowledge of the Messengers- neither will it reach that which is reached through the knowledge of the Messengers nor can it influence the souls in the manner in which the knowledge of the Messengers has done, because indeed the souls do not voluntarily submit except through belief in Allah, belief in His Angels, belief in His Books, belief in His Messengers and belief in the hereafter. And without this, voluntary submission is impossible, as is well known regarding human nature. [8]

The followers of truth will remain until the end of time. The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

A group of people from my Umma will always remain manifest upon the truth. They will not be harmed by those who forsake them until Allah’s Command comes to pass (i.e. the Day of Judgment). [9]

Why Ponder Upon The Story of The Nations of Old?

قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ سُنَنٌ فَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Many similar mishaps [troubles, problems] of life were faced by nations that have passed away before you, so travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who disbelieved]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Verse 137]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Indeed, there were nations like yourselves before you, so look to their evil end. You have to know that the reason behind their evil end was due to their disbelief in the revelations of Allah and disbelief in Allah’s Messengers. They were the forefathers and you are the descendants. The main affair that connects you to each other is your disbelief and the ruling on that disbelief is destruction. [10]

Imam Muhammad Bin Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If it is said, “What is the benefit in narrating to us the stories of the destroyed nations despite the fact that this Ummah will not be completely destroyed in a manner similar to the destruction of the previous nations before it?”

The Answer: Indeed, this has two benefits: The first benefit is a clarification of Allah’s blessings upon us that the occurrence of a complete destruction is removed from us, and that were it not for Allah’s Benevolence we would have been deserving of it. Second, the likeness of the punishment they received may occur in the hereafter for the one who did what they did, if punishment was not received in the worldly life. And this may be understood from the statement of Allah: “Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the population of towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful and severe. Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter.” So what is apparent from this Aayah is that what is similar to the punishment they received will happen in the Hereafter, and Allaah knows best. [11]

Allah [The Most High] said:

قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ
ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ وَيَقُولُ أَيۡنَ شُرَڪَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمۡ تُشَـٰٓقُّونَ فِيہِمۡ‌ۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ إِنَّ ٱلۡخِزۡىَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ وَٱلسُّوٓءَ عَلَى ٱلۡڪَـٰفِرِينَ

Those before them indeed plotted, but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them, and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them and will say: “Where are My (so called) ‘partners’ concerning whom you used to disagree and dispute (with the believers, by defying and disobeying Allah)?” Those who have been given the knowledge (about the Torment of Allah for the disbelievers) will say: “Verily! Disgrace this Day and misery are upon the disbelievers. [An-Nahl. 26-27]

[قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ – Those before them indeed plotted]: The Mufassiroon say that this refers to Namrud who built a tall tower in order to climb – as he claimed – the heavens and fight its inhabitants.

[فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ – but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them]: The Mufassiroon say: Allaah sent a wind which flung the top of the tower to the sea and the rest was destroyed. [وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive]: Meaning, from where they thought they were safe. [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace]: Meaning, disgraced with punishment. [12]

[قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ – Those before them indeed plotted]: Meaning plotted against their Messengers, employed various types of tricks in order to reject that which the messengers brought and established gigantic safeguards [by way of arguments, views etc] on their plots. [فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ – but Allah struck at the foundation of their building]– Meaning, an affair came to them from its basis and foundation [فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ – and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them] -Meaning, so what they built became a punishment for them. [وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive]: Meaning, that is because they thought that such a building will benefit and protect them from punishment, but their punishment occurred from that which they built and established.

This is one the best of parables regarding how Allah nullifies the plots of his enemies, for indeed they pondered and reflected on that which the Messengers brought when they belied them, made up principles and rules for it based on falsehood, referred back to them to reject that which the Messengers came with, employed tricks to bring discomfort to the Messengers and inflict harm on them and those who followed them, but their plot became a source of evil against them, so their plan became their destruction, because their plot was evil as Allah said: [ وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ – But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. [Fatir. 43]

This is in this worldly life and the punishment in the afterlife would be more disgraceful, and due to this Allah said: [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them]. [13]

[وَقَدۡ مَكَرُواْ مَڪۡرَهُمۡ – Indeed, they planned their plot, and their plot was with Allah]: There are four statements of the scholars regarding the above: That it was Namrud when he debated with Ibrahim about his Lord. That it was about Bakhtanasar. That it is about the nations of the past and their plotting which necessitates Shirk. That it is about those who plotted against the Messenger when they desired to kill him.

And regarding the statement: [وَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَڪۡرُهُمۡ – and their plot was with Allah]– meaning: Their plot is recorded so that Allah will recompense them.

[وَإِن كَانَ مَڪۡرُهُمۡ لِتَزُولَ مِنۡهُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ – though their plot was a great (one, still) it would never be able to remove the mountains]. Az-Zujaaj said, “Even if they plot reached the severity where it could move a mountain, they will still not be able to bring the affair of Islam to an end”. [14] Even if their plot were to reach a stage where it could move a mountain, Allah will still aid the religion He has ordained. [15]

Al-Awfee said reported from Ibn Abbas who said, “Their plot cannot move mountains”. Ibn Jareer  said, “This deed they commit is against themselves, such as associating partners to Allah and disbelief in Him cannot bring any harm to the mountains nor anything, rather it will haunt them”. [16] The verses (signs, revelations) of Allah, His divine laws and His manifest miracles at the hands of the Messengers are like mountains in robustness and firmness. So the intent is to belittle their plot and that it cannot remove the signs and Messenger ships. [17]

Allah [The Exalted] said:
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِي حَاجَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي رَبِّهِ أَنْ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْمُلْكَ إِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّيَ الَّذِي يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ قَالَ أَنَا أُحْيِي وَأُمِيتُ ۖ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْتِي بِالشَّمْسِ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ فَأْتِ بِهَا مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ فَبُهِتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Have you not seen (contemplated with your heart) him who disputed with Ibrahim (Abraham) about his Lord (Allah), because Allah had given him the kingdom? When Ibrahim (Abraham) said (to him): “My Lord (Allah) is He Who gives life and causes death.” He said, “I give life and cause death.” Ibrahim (Abraham) said, “Verily! Allah causes the sun to rise from the east; then cause it you to rise from the west.” So the disbeliever was utterly defeated. And Allah guides not the people, who are Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.). [Al-Baqarah. 258]

Imam Al-Baghawi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

There is a difference of opinion among (the Mufassiroon) regarding the timing of this debate. Muqatil, may Allah have mercy on him, stated that after Ibrahim, peace be upon him, broke the idols, Namrud imprisoned him and later brought him out to be burned. Namrud asked, “Who is the Lord you urge us to worship?” Ibrahim, peace be upon him, replied, “My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death.” Others say that this (occurred) after Ibrahim was thrown into the fire, during a time of drought when people sought food from Namrud. If someone approached him for food, he would inquire, “Who is your Lord?” If the person responded, “You are my Lord,” he would then offer to sell them food. [18]

أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِى حَآجَّ إِبۡرَٲهِـۧمَ فِى رَبِّهِۦۤ

“Have you seen (contemplated with your heart and eyes) him who disputed with Ibrahim (Abraham) about his Lord (Allah)”……Meaning, his insolence, ignorant attitude and obstinacy, and arguing about that which there is no doubt! Nothing led him to this behaviour except because” Allah had given him the kingdom”, thus, he transgressed and rebelled, and considered himself as one in control of those under his authority, which led him to argue with Prophet Ibrahim about Allah’s Lordship and claimed that he can do the same thing as Allah does.

Prophet Ibrahim said to him, “My Lord is He Who gives life and death” – Meaning, “Allah alone is in absolute control of everything”. Then Ibrahim mentioned two specific things – life and death. This is because they the greatest things in Allah’s absolute control. Life is the beginning of the worldly life and death is the beginning of what is to occur in the afterlife.

Then the one (the king) who sought to ague against Ibrahim said, “I give life and cause death”, but he never said, “I am the One Who gives life and death, because could not claim that he is not in need of anyone to interfere in the matter; instead, he only claimed that he could do what Allah does by killing someone and sparing someone’s life. Prophet Ibrahim saw the fallacy in his argument and utterence of speech that is not even worthy of being a Shubhah (i.e. an ambiguity portrayed as wholesome truth) let alone a proof, so he said to him, “Verily! Allah causes the sun to rise from the east”.

Ibrahim mentioned something that can be clearly seen and affirmed by everyone including this disbeliever. “Then cause it you to rise from the West”. This compelled him to bring proof if he is truthful in his claim.

When Ibrahim uttered this to him, about which he neither had the ability to present an ambiguity to make Ibrahim’s proof look confusing nor could he find something to disparage it, he was utterly defeated – lost for an answer, his proof cut off and his ambiguous statement toppled. [19]

He Who brings life and death (Allah) has absolute control over the existence and creates everything in it, including absolute control of its celestial bodies and their movements. The sun rises everyday from the east, thus, if you were god, as you claim, who gives life and cause death, make the sun rise from the west. [20]

This is the situation of an obstinate falsifier who wants to confront truth and overcome it, because he will be defeated and subdued. This is why Allah said:

وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَہۡدِى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

And Allah guides not the people, who are Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.)]; instead He abandons them to their disbelief and misguidance. [21]

Allah, said: [وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ – Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said] – Meaning, with haughtiness and tyranny, whilst deluding his foolish people; [ذَرُونِي أَقْتُلْ مُوسَىٰ وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّهُ – Leave me to kill Musa (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)!]

This was his claim that had it not been for his consideration of the wishes of his people, he would have killed Musa and that (Musa’s) supplication to his Lord would not have prevented him from that. Fir’awn then mentioned what made him want to kill Musa and that he is a sincere adviser to his people, and that he wished to remove mischief from the land. Allah stated that Fir’awn said: [إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُبَدِّلَ دِينَكُمْ أَوْ أَنْ يُظْهِرَ فِي الْأَرْضِ الْفَسَادَ – I fear that he (Musa) may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!” [Ghaafir 26]

This is the most amazing the affair can be! The most evil one among the creation gives advice to the people against the best among the creation. This is (nothing but) disguised falsehood and propaganda, which cannot seize except the intellects of those (people) about whom Allah stated: [فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ – Thus he Fir’aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).] [Az-Zukhruf. 54] [22]

Allah [The Exalted] said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَأُ مَا عَلِمۡتُ لَڪُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيۡرِى – O chiefs! I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me].

Just look at what Fir’awn said! He did not say. “You do not have a god besides me”, rather he said: “I know not that you have a god other than me’’. This is because they considered him to be a virtuous scholar and that whatever he said has to be the truth, and whatever he commands has to be followed. And after he made this statement, he then tried to prove that what he has stated is true. Allah [The Most High] said that Fir’awn said to Haamaan:

[فَأَوۡقِدۡ لِى يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلطِّينِ فَٱجۡعَل لِّى صَرۡحً۬ا لَّعَلِّىٓ أَطَّلِعُ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُ ۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِينَ – so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake (bricks out of) clay, and set up for me a Sarhan (a lofty tower, or palace, etc.) in order that I may look at (or look for) the Ilah (God) of Musa (Moses); and verily, I think that he [Musa (Moses)] is one of the liars]- Meaning: We think that Musa is lying, but we are going to ascertain the affair and prove that he is a liar.

Look at Fir’awn’s extreme sinful boldness! He belied Musa, peace be upon him, claimed that he was a God, claimed that he is not aware of a true object of worship and asked Haamaan to build him a tower in order that he can see the god of Musa! These claims were nothing else but propaganda; however what is really amazing is the affair of those chiefs who considered themselves as the elders of the Kingdom, for how did they allow Fir’awn to play about with their intellects and deceive them? Indeed, that was due to their extremely sinful behaviour, which corrupted their religion and then their intellects. We ask Allah to keep us firm upon Iman and that our hearts do not become deviated after we have been guided. [23]

Allah said:
فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَكَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ

As for ‘Ad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: “Who is mightier than us in strength?” See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)![Fussilat 15]

Allah stated that Prophet Hud, peace be upon him, said to his people: [وَإِذَا بَطَشۡتُم بَطَشۡتُمۡ جَبَّارِينَ – And when you seize, seize you as tyrants]– Meaning, when you want to attack with a whip or sword, you attack like tyrants, completely overpowering and being savagely violent – neither compassionate nor aim to discipline (within justice as commanded by Allah), nor contemplating on the consequences. [24]Allah gave them great strength and it was obligated to them to use this strength in obedience to Allah, but they became boastful and haughty, and they said: [مَنۡ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً‌ۖ – Who is mightier than us in strength? (Fussilat. 15], and they utilised their strength in disobedience to Allah, fruitlessly and foolishly, thus, their Prophet forbade them from that. [25]Their Prophet forbade them from that because it was done out of oppression. [26]

Our tribe and clans elders used to say: “A serious forehead wound is easily noticeable”

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Those who deceive the public and fabricate falsehoods against innocent individuals on social media, all in the guise of promoting virtue and denouncing vice, while deceitfully concealing their true intentions from the naive or unsuspecting observers, now exert significant effort into refining their public personas once their deceit has been unequivocally exposed. When individuals inquire, “Why do you refrain from naming them?” We respond, “It is absolutely unnecessary to mention their names when thousands of people are already cognizant of the strategies they employ and the appropriate measures to take against them until they demonstrate genuine contrition. The elders of our clans and tribes would remark about someone whose actions are glaringly obvious, “A serious forehead wound is easily noticeable”, thus, the affair of such deceivers and their desperate attempts to polish their image and hide their deception is as evident as a serious forehead injury. The matter becomes even more apparent when they continue their exaggerations, fabrications, concealments, misrepresentations, distortions, flattering personalities and their selective editing of statements on social media.

How Do We Treat Them Regardless Who They Are and Their Credentials? Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated: “There was no behaviour more hateful to Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, than lying. A man would tell a lie when speaking in the presence of the Prophet, and he would not be satisfied until he knew that he had repented from it”. [1]

What should we look for when examining their statements against others

Lying is either the fabrication of a story that has no basis, or the addition to or omission from a story in a way that alters its meaning, or distortion through a changing an expression. What is a fabrication is called “al-if’tirāʾu – calumny” and “al-ikhtilāqu – concoction”. What is an addition or omission is called “mainun – an untruth accompanied by deception to achieve an ulterior motive”. Whoever conveys a lie about someone else may do so either in that person’s presence or in their absence. The gravest form of lying is the fabricated story in the presence of the one it concerns, and this is what is called slander (buhtān). [2]

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَإِن تَلۡوُ ۥۤاْ أَوۡ تُعۡرِضُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِيرً۬ا

And if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do.

Allah, Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections, mentions two reasons that will inevitably lead to concealment of truth then He warned against them and issued a threat: the first of them is distortion and the second is to turn away from giving truthful witness. That is because when a proof that supports the truth is manifested and the one who wants to repel it finds no way of doing so, he refrains from mentioning it and thus becomes a silent devil, and sometimes he distorts it. Distortion is of two types -distorting words and meanings. Distorting words occur when one utters a word in a context in which it does not establish the truth – either adding to the word, omitting something from it, or substituting it with something else to the extent that the listener is made to believe something, whilst something else is intended, just as the Yahood [i.e. those Yahood who disbelieved in the Prophet and hated him in Madeenah] used to distort words when giving Salaam to the Prophet [i.e. saying As-Saamu Alayka (death be upon you), instead of saying Assalaamu alaykum)]. This is one type of distortion. The second type of distortion is related to meanings – distorting the wording, giving it an interpretation that is not intended by the one who uttered it and pretending not to know its unintended meaning; or dropping other meanings intended by it. [3]

Beware of kadhib (lies), as it corrupts one’s ability to teach people as well as one ability to illustrate information based on how it should actually be. The liar presents what is present as something non-existent and what is non-existent as something present; misrepresents the truth as being something false and falsehood as being something true; misrepresents the good and the evil, so he corrupts his conception and knowledge, which subsequently results in his punishment. Then he portrays what is not true to the one who has been duped by him – the one who is drawn to him – and therefore corrupts his conception and knowledge.

The soul of the liar turns away from existing reality, preferring the non-existent, and falsehood. And when his conception and knowledge is corrupted, which is the basis of every wilfully chosen deed, his deeds become corrupt and marked by lies, so those deeds would emanate from him just as lies emanate from the tongue- neither benefits from his tongue nor his deeds (i.e. in relation to the specific affair). Because of this, lying serves as the foundation of immorality, as the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Indeed, lies lead to immorality (or wickedness), and indeed, immorality (or wickedness) leads to the fire.” [Bukhaari 2606/2607]

Lies first emerge from the heart and then on the tongue, corrupting it; then they transfer to the limbs and corrupt their deeds, just as they corrupt statements of the tongue. As a result, lying prevails over his utterances, deeds, and state of affairs; corruption gets deeply ingrained in him, and its disease leads to destruction if Allah does not grant him recovery with the medication of truthfulness, which uproots the source (or basis) of the lies. This is why the basis of all deeds of the heart is truthfulness, and the basis of their opposites is lies, such as boasting, self-amazement, pride, being glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours), conceitedness, boastfulness, insolence, weakness, laziness, cowardice, disgrace, and others.

Every righteous deed, whether done privately or publicly, is founded on truthfulness. And the source of every corrupt deed, whether private or public, is lies. Allah punishes the liar by preventing him (i.e. due to his own chosen evil) from those things that will bring him well-being and benefit, while He rewards the truthful one by granting him the ability to attain the beneficial things of the worldly life and Afterlife. There is nothing comparable to truthfulness in terms of how it brings about the affairs of well-being in this life and the next, and there is nothing comparable to lying in terms of how it corrupts and harms one’s worldly and Afterlife affairs. [4]

The fact that a statement regarding something is lies and falsehood is sometimes known based on the statement in and of itself, its contradictions, perplexity and the manifestation of those clear indications which shows that it is lies. Lies may manifest due to what it is in reality, what is apparent and what is being concealed. It is sometimes known due to the situation of the utterer of the lie, for indeed the one who is known for lying, wickedness and deception, his statements do not show anything else except a state of conformity with his deeds. He does not utter a statement or perform an action similar to that of a pious and truthful person – the one innocent of every evil, deception, lie and wicked behaviour; rather the heart, intention, statements and deeds of the truthful one have the same image; and the heart, statements, deeds and intentions of the liar have the same image. Skin lightening – a problem of some black and Asian women

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحْسَنَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ وَبَدَأَ خَلْقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنِ مِن طِينٍ

Who made everything He has created good, and He began the creation of man from clay. [Al-Sajdah 7]

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمِنۡ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ أَلۡسِنَتِڪُمۡ وَأَلۡوَٲنِكُمۡ‌ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَأَيَـٰتٍ۬ لِّلۡعَـٰلِمِينَ

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge]. [Al Rum. 22]

A troubling trend is observed among some black and Asian women, particularly in the pursuit of beauty, while often ignoring the truth that beauty is subjective and varies from person to person. Those who break free from the influence of those who exploit beauty standards as a means of asserting racial superiority or perfection are the ones who recognize that beauty is a deeply personal concept. Each culture has its own definition of physical beauty, which may differ from that of another nation, although there are instances where countries share similar views on beauty regarding appearance and physical characteristics. However, this article aims to highlight the extreme lengths some individuals go to in order to change their physical appearance due to feelings of inferiority, which can lead to self-harm. In this context, we must acknowledge the dangerous practice of skin lightening, which many pursue to attain a lighter skin tone. According to experts, this practice can diminish the concentration or production of melanin in the skin, and melanin is the pigment responsible for skin color and its protection against sun damage.

Some have argued that this perilous and addictive behaviour originated from the inferiority complex instilled by colonialists in those who were entirely deprived of their identity or those who equate beauty with the standards set by the previous slave master, as mental slavery is more abiding than physical slavery. Therefore, this issue cannot be resolved unless there is an understanding that, above all, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Most importantly, even if an individual is deemed beautiful or attractive—an inherently subjective assessment—it is perfectly acceptable for someone to embrace their own definition of beauty without allowing it to devolve into racial bias or inferiority complex. Consequently, following the end of the demoralisation inflicted by certain colonialists—such as the practice of segregating dark-skinned slaves from their lighter-skinned counterparts by forcing the former to toil under the sun on plantations while the latter worked in the houses—there is no justification for any black woman, in particular, to chase after a notion of beautification that reflects an inferiority complex. However, many black and Asian women staunchly oppose the practice of skin bleaching, recognising its ties to colonialism.

The sensible person aims to nurture the next generation with a solid foundation of faith, strong confidence, and a clear sense of identity. When it comes to their preferences in a spouse, they do not poke their noses into what physical beauty is appealing to their children, as we have previously mentioned that beauty is subjective. In addition and most important of all, they educate them to recognise that true status, dignity, and inner beauty are rooted in Islam, and as the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stated: ““Verily, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and actions.” [Sahih Muslim 2564]

Having committed themselves to instilling values of virtue and piety in their children, they take pride in their choice to marry individuals of any skin color. They rejoice in the fact that they will not select a partner burdened by an inferiority complex, whether related to skin tone or any other aspect, as Islam fosters dignity and virtue.

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked:

It has become widespread among the people, especially women, to use some chemicals and natural herbs that change the colour of the skin, so that coloured (brown or non-white skin) becomes white after applying these chemicals and natural herbs, and so on. Is there a Sharee’ah prohibition against this? And bear in mind that some husbands command their wives to use these chemicals and natural herbs whilst citing as proof that it is obligated on a woman to beautify herself for her husband.

Answer: If this change is permanent, then it is forbidden; rather it is one of the major sins, because indeed it is worse than tattooing in relation to altering what Allah has created. Indeed, it has been established (by way authentic narration) from the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) that he cursed the women who do hair extensions and the woman who does it for others, the woman who does tattoos and the woman who does it for them. In Bukhari and Muslim, Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “May Allah curse the women who do tattoos and the women who have them done, and the women who pluck eyebrows and the women who have that done, and the women who file their teeth for the purpose of beautification, those who change the creation of Allah”. And he said, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed?”

The one who attaches hair extensions is the one whose hair is short so she adds something to it, whether hair or something similar. The woman who does tattoos is one who puts the tattoo on the skin by inserting a needle and what is similar, then she fills that place with kohl or something similar which alters the colour of the skin. The woman who seeks for tattoos to be done is the one who asks someone else to do a tattoo on her. The woman who plucks eyebrows is the one who plucks hair from the face- from her eyebrows or for others. The woman who seeks for that to be done is the one who asks that her eyebrows are plucked. The woman who files her teeth is the one who asks someone else to file her teeth in order to widen the gaps between them. All of these deeds are tantamount to changing what Allah has created and what has been stated in the question is more severe – with regards to changing what Allah has created – than what has been stated in the hadeeth. But if the change is not permanent, such as henna and the like, then there is nothing wrong with it because it will disappear, such as kohl, using red cosmetic on the cheeks and lips. Therefore, it is obligatory to be careful, warn against altering what Allah has created and spread the warning among the Ummah lest evil spread, become widespread and difficult to reverse it. Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, was asked: “What do you think regarding what is now called the Arab Spring?” 

By Allah, the (Arab) “spring” has not brought us any healing. It has not brought us any healing; instead, (it has only led to) strife. The unbelievers refer to it as this (i.e. Arab Spring). The Muslims do not refer to it as “Spring”, instead, they call it strife and evils. It is true that it is a spring for the unbelievers because they harm Muslims through it, and they are pleased with what harms Muslims. This pleases them and it is their spring. (paraphrased)
