[6] Seeking to Discredit Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Muhammad Hijaab and his ilk from ahlul bidah represent the typical trial faced by upright Scholars and Ahlus Sunnah, which ultimately leads to a clearer manifestation of the truth]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Most High] says:

وَجَعَلْنَا بَعْضَكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ فِتْنَةً أَتَصْبِرُونَ

And We have made some of you as a trial for others: will you have patience? [Surah Al-Furqan Ayah 20]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: A man asked Imam Ash-Shaafi’ee [may Allah have mercy upon him], “Which is better: to be granted strength and authority to follow the path of Allah without any hindrance, or to face trials first?” Ash-Shaafi’ee told him, “No one is given strength and authority to follow the path of Allah without facing obstacles from those who deny or oppose Allah and His Messengers. This is because Allah tested and tried Nuh, Ibraaheem, Musa, Isa, and Muhammad, and after they exercised patience, they were given the authority and strength to establish the path of Allah without any hindrance”. [1]

The ignorant people are a trial for the scholars regarding whether they will teach and advise them while exercising patience, and the scholars a trial for the ignorant people regarding whether they will obey and follow the guidance of the scholars. [2]

Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee As-Salafi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: Ahlul Bidah are the ones who kindle trials and disorder. They are chaotic people and are deprived of safety and security. They are a people of trials and disturbance as opposed to Ahlul Hadeeth Was-Sunan (i.e. those who steadfastly adhere to authentic narrations of the Prophet in Creed, worship, and methodology). Have they (i.e. the people of Sunnah) committed what the people of bidah and trials have committed?! The people of bidah trespass alongside enmity and innovation, while Ahlus Sunnah respond and defend (the religion). [3]

So, let it be known to Muhammad Hijaab and all those who speak ill of the erudite Salafi Scholar Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan or any other upright scholar, that his wrongful actions can be summed up in the following poem:

يُخاطِبُني السَفيهُ بِكُلِّ قُبحٍ
فَأَكرَهُ أَن أَكونَ لَهُ مُجيبا
يَزيدُ سَفاهَةً فَأَزيدُ حِلماً
كَعودٍ زادَهُ الإِحراقُ طيبا

The fool addresses me with every repugnant (expression etc), but I hate to be a respondent, so he increases in foolishness and I increase in forbearance, just as Oud increases in good smell when burnt.

[5] Seeking to Discredit or Mock Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [An Imam of the Sunnah in our era] and Muhammad Hijaab [a Stubborn Dead Heart]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy Mercy.

Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

All praise is due to Allaah, who in every age and interval between the Prophets, raises up a group from the people of knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bear ill-treatment and harm. With the Book of Allaah they give life to the dead and with the Light of Allaah they give sight to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees (the Devil) they have revived, how beautiful their effect has been upon the people, and how vile the people have been towards them! They remove from Allaah’s Book the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars and the false interpretations of the ignoramus- those who uphold the banner of innovation and let loose the trials and discords, who oppose the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and his Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book and deceive the ignorant ones with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allaah from the trials of the misguided ones. [Ar-Radd Alal Jahmiyyah Waz-Zanaadiqah. p. 2]

So, let it be known to Muhammad Hijaab and all those who speak ill of the erudite Salafi Scholar Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan or any other upright scholar, that his wrongful actions can be summed up in the following poem:

[4] Seeking to Discredit or Mock Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Muhammad Hijaab be very cautious of the dangers of being a potty-mouth]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Ibn Hajar said, “The Judge Jamaal Ad-Deen, Abu Abdillah Ar-Reemiy, the jurist, Ash-Shaafi’ee, was born in the year 710AH. He acquired knowledge of the religion from various Shaikhs in Yemen, studied hadith transmission under the jurist Ibraaheem Bin Umar Al-Alawi, and authored an explanation of At-Tanbeeh in almost 20 Volumes. He was a teacher, issued fatwas, and was highly sought after in Yemen. He gained widespread recognition and passed away in the year 791AH in Zabid. Jamaal Al-Misri Muhammad Bin Abee Bakr from Zabid informed me that he witnessed his death and his tongue became swollen and turned black. It was believed that this was a result of speaking ill of Shaikh Muhyiddin An-Nawawee”. (1)

So, let it be known to Muhammad Hijaab and all those who speak ill of the erudite Salafi Scholar Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan or any other upright scholar, that his wrongful actions can be summed up in the following poem:

[3] Seeking to Discredit or Mock Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Muhammad Hijaab Manifests Behaviour of The Foolish]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Most High] said:

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تَذْبَحُوا بَقَرَةً ۖ قَالُوا أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًا ۖ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: “Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow.” They said, “Do you make fun of us?” He said, “I take Allah’s Refuge from being among Al-Jahilun (the ignorants or the foolish)”. [2:67]

A Jahil (ignoramus) speaks with a speech that contains no benefit and mocks at the people. As for a sensible person, he sees that one of the most blameworthy traits – abhorred by (sound) religion and intellect- is to mock at someone who is a human being like himself. If he has been favoured over another person, then this favour necessitates that he thanks Allah and shows mercy to Allah’s servants. Therefore, when Musa [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said this to them [أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ – I take Allah’s Refuge from being among the ignorants and the foolish ], they knew that it [i.e. what he commanded them] was truth, so they said: [ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا هِيَ -call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what it is!(2:68)] [An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi]

In The Name of Allah The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Malik Bin Deenaar (may Allah have mercy upon him) said, “It is enough evil for a man that he is not righteous yet he speaks ill of the righteous”. [Shu’ab Al-Iman 9/121]

[1] Seeking to Discredit Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [A Clear Sign of The Proponents of Bidah Manifests in Muhammad Hijaab]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Abu Haatim Ar-Raazee [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “A (clear) sign of Ahlul Bidah (the proponents of innovation in religious matters) is that they speak ill of Ahlul Athar (those who adhere to the authentic narrations of Prophet and his companions in creed, manners, and methodology)”. [1]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] mentioned regarding those who aim to undermine the righteous scholars of the Ummah: “The onset of this long-standing illness can be traced back to the rise of nationalism, western colonialism, and the destructive views of the Naasiriyyah and Ba’thiyyah, among others. The figureheads of these filthy dogmas went to great lengths to eradicate Islam from their path, which they could not accomplish except by undermining the Scholars. Subsequently, this malady spread among certain groups claiming affiliation with Islam, who actively work to discredit scholars by labeling them as puppets of the government, spies, or other derogatory terms. The purpose of all this is to undermine the scholars, particularly those following the Salafi methodology – the methodology that distinguishes the right from the wrong, the truth from the falsehood, the misguided from the deviated as they are. There is neither flattery nor Mudaahanah i.e. agreeing with an opponent and being content with their ways without trying to correct them, whilst saying, as long as an opponent remains silent about oneself, one will also remain silent about them]. This is because the inheritors of the Prophets, who are the righteous scholars presenting the truth, are fair and just. They support the religion ordained by Allah and propagate it in the global Muslim Community. They propagate justice, Ihsaan [i.e. everything that will perfect the creed, worship, and dealings of humankind and Jinn], and piety. They wage war against evil, immorality, polytheism, innovation in religious matters, and superstitious beliefs”. [2]

So, let it be known to Muhammad Hijaab and all those who speak ill of the erudite Salafi Scholar Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan or any other upright scholar, that his wrongful actions can be summed up in the following poem:

Young man asked about an affair that once worried us in our youth but no longer affects us by the Tawfeeq of Allah

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

“There is a plot being devised to speak against the Masjid at any moment with the help of a certain influential individual”. When Shaikh Wasiyullah initially visited the UK, this message was delivered to the Masjid Committee. However, it is no longer a cause for concern, especially when one is innocent in the Sight of Allah and has clear unambiguous knowledge-based proof to defend the truth by the Tawfeeq of Allah. Indeed, the deeds and intentions of humankind and Jinn are not hidden from Allah.

And whether you keep your talk secret or disclose it, verily, He is the All-Knower of what is in the breasts (of men). Should not He Who has created know? And He is the Most Kind and Courteous (to His slaves) All-Aware (of everything). [Surah Al-Mulk. Ayaat 14-15]

If you believe that He is your Creator and the Creator of your hearts and all they contain, how can (anything) be concealed from Him?! The statement [بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ – what is in the breasts (of men)] includes what the breasts carry in terms of beliefs, intentions, love, and hate. [1]

The Fruits of Taqwah and Sabr After Being Plotted Against

Allah [The Most High] informs us about Yusuf [peace be upon him] and his brothers:

قَالُوا أَإِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ يُوسُفُ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا يُوسُفُ وَهَٰذَا أَخِي ۖ قَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا ۖ إِنَّهُ مَنْ يَتَّقِ وَيَصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

They said: “Are you indeed Yusuf?” He said: “I am Yusuf, and this is my brother (Benjamin). Allah has indeed been gracious to us. Verily, he who fears Allah and is patient, then surely, Allah makes not the reward of the good-doers to be lost”.

They knew that the one who addressed them was Yusuf, so they said: [ أَإِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ يُوسُف – Are you indeed Yusuf? He said: [أَنَا يُوسُفُ وَهَٰذَا أَخِي ۖ قَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا – I am Yusuf, and this is my brother (Benjamin). Allah has indeed been gracious to us]- Meaning, Allah granted us Imaan, piety and authority in the worldly life, and that is due to patience and piety.

[ۖ إِنَّهُ مَنْ يَتَّقِ وَيَصْبِرْ-Verily, he who fears Allah and is patient]- Meaning: One who keeps away from what Allah has forbidden, exercise patience when facing pain and calamities, and when fulfilling the commandments (of Allah).

[فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِين – then surely, Allah makes not the reward of the good-doers to be lost]- Meaning, because that is from Ihsaan (perfection in worship) and Allah makes not the reward of the one who perfects his deeds to be lost. [2]

It used to be said that whoever perpetrates these three acts will be haunted by them:

Rebellion against Allah’s commandments

Allah [The Exalted] says: [يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ – O mankind! Your rebellion (disobedience to Allah) is only against your ownselves]. [Surah Yunus Ayah 23]

Evil plotting

Allah [The Exalted] says: [وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ – But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. [Surah Faatir Ayah 43]

Breaking pledges

Allah [The Exalted] says: [فَمَنْ نَكَثَ فَإِنَّمَا يَنْكُثُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ – Then whosoever breaks his pledge only breaks it to his own harm]. [Surah Al-Fath Ayah 10] [3]

“Do not busy yourselves with refutations, do not abandon knowledge”

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] stated: The people extensively read books that contained deviant viewpoints and the libraries were decaying and being filled with misguidance and Bidah. Nonetheless, they [those who object when one reads the books that contain refutations] refrained from speaking in this manner. However, as people started to (follow) the teachings of Allah’s Book and the Sunnah based on the methodology of the Pious Predecessors and discovered books that warned them against Bidah and misguidance, they [those who object] said, “Do not busy yourselves on these matters, do not neglect knowledge”. These refutations are part of acquiring knowledge. By Allah! To be acquainted with guidance (and distinguishing) it from misguidance, recognising good and (distinguishing it) from evil, are knowledge that will safeguard a person, as Hudhaifah [may Allah be pleased with him] said, “The people used to ask the Messenger about the good, but I used to ask him about the evil out of fear of falling into it”. The books of the proponents of Bidah and misguidance should be made known through the books that debunk them. Many young people were ruined when deprived of the likes of these books that protect them. These books [of refutations] offer a shield of protection for the youth. [1]

The Shaikh was asked: What is your view about the one who says “Speaking a lot about about Manhaj [methodology] makes the heart become hardened?”

Response: Speaking a lot about (sound) methodology and studying it hardens the heart, but advocating fictitious (beliefs, deeds, ideas, views), bidah, misguidance, and the ideas of the khawaarij softens the hearts?! The call to (sound) methodology – the call to the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], and everything they contain about correct beliefs, acts of worship, deeds, and rectification of the (Islamic) methodology is a significant matter that should be (emphasised).

The misguided (beliefs, methodologies, etc) are plentiful, and no matter how much someone speaks, their efforts are insufficient compared to what is needed. Currently, we speak about the (sound) methodology, but has it reached all Muslims? However, speech based on the path of the Tableeghees, the Ikhwaanees, the proponents of misguidance, the proponents of Bidah, fictitious views, and (deviant) political views soften the heart! Is this statement correct?! This is the speech of the foolish ones – those who are tired of the true Islamic methodology approach, so they speak such falsehoods that obstruct (people) from the path of Allah. [2]

Our teacher, khateeb, or Masjid Committee is Balanced- neither speak nor take a stance until after assessing benefits and harms

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Our teacher, khateeb, or Masjid Committee refrains from speaking until after carefully assessing the advantages and disadvantages

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] clarified this affair when Dr Ibraaheem Ar-Ruhayli [may Allah rectify his affair] mentioned the importance of considering the benefits of a refutation, and that it is crucial to ascertain the benefits of the refutation because if it will result in more harm than the initial corruption, it is not legislated to proceed with it. This is because a Mafsadah [a corrupt affair] is not to repelled if it will lead to greater corruption. Dr. Ibraaheem then cited a statement by Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, stating that it is impermissible to repel a minor act of corruption that may lead to greater corruption. The preferable course of action is to not repel the lesser of two harmful matters which leads to greater corruption, as the Islamic Legislation aims to bring about beneficial outcomes and accomplish them fully, while also putting a halt to corrupt affairs and minimising their impact as much as possible. The objective is to prioritise the weightier of two good matters, in cases where achieving both is not feasible and to repel the more evil of two matters if it is not possible to eliminate both.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Mad’khalee responded to Dr Ibraaheem’s statement, stating that the words of Shaikhul Islam are indeed true. He emphasised that it is not permissible to repel a minor act of corruption that would lead to greater corruption. Then the Shaikh stated, however, I [Rabee] believe that Shaikh Al-Islam does not consider Shirk, Kufr, the Major Bidah, waging war against Ahlus Sunnah, and defending the senior proponents of Bidah as minor matters of corruption, or that disapproving them (openly) and highlighting their danger is something that will result in more corruption. There is no greater advantage than spreading Tawheed and demonstrating it, eradicating Shirk and Kufr, and cleansing the earth from them; (cleansing the earth from) Bidah which the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] referred to as the most detrimental of all matters. Shaikh Al-Islaam intended, as evident from this statement, the one who gives advice to the rulers or expresses disapproval towards the actions of Muslim rulers or their representatives because this is to be carried out with evidence, leniency, and gentleness, but in cases where disapproving their minor acts of corruption may result in greater corruption, one bears the smaller corruption to repel the occurrence of a greater corruption. Then the Shaikh expounded on this matter in a footnote on page 54 where he stated, “This is contrary to the actions of the khawaarij and their ilk because their disapproval (of the ruler) is either manifested through armed rebellion or instigation and provocation. Consequently, the resulting corruption from their disapproval of the ruler’s actions surpasses and intensifies the very corruption they sought to prevent.”

Then the Shaikh proceeded to state that if the corrupt actions carried out by the rulers amount to Shirk, Rafd (the creed of the Raafidah Shiites), or Kufr, then this principle of bearing the lesser evil does not apply in this case. Regarding bidah, particularly bidah which is equivalent to disbelief or polytheism, the statement of Shaikh Al-Islam should not be applied in such situations. Then the Shaikh stressed this point to Dr Ibraaheem, reminding him of Imaam Ahmad’s opposition to those who claimed that the Qur’an is created, despite their political power. Shaikh Al-Islaam and Ibn Al-Qayyim wrote numerous books refuting Ahlul Bidah, including Al-Waasityyah, Al-Hamawiyyah, At-Tadmuriyyah, Minhaaj Ahl Sunnah, Naqd al-Mantiq, Dar Ta’aarud Al-Naql Wal-Aql, Talbees Al-Jahmiyyah, Iqtidaa Siraat al-Mustaqeem, Al-Fataawaa Al-Kubraa, and Majmoo Al-Fataawaa. Most of these books specifically refute the Ash’ariyyah. (a) Ibnul Qayyim’s books, such as As-Sawaa’iq Al-Mursalah Alal Jahmiyyah Wal-Mu’attilah (b) I’laam Al-Muwaqqi’een, Ighaatha Al-Lahfaan, and An’Nubuwwah were primarily written to refute the Ash’ariyyah Soofiyyah, despite their political authority. The reason for clarification and disapproval in this matter (i.e. rebuttal against the major bidah) is nothing else other than something that brings more benefit than harm. This is the call of the Messengers, from Nuh to the last of them Muhammad, because they manifested the truth, explained Tawheed, and warned against Shirk, regardless of their enemies’ tyranny, authority, strength, and transgressions. [1]

Must read the article By Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allah protect him] regarding rebellion, Takfeer, speaking against rulers openly in general, and pay close attention to what Imaam Ahmad advised the delegation that approached him and suggested rebellion, saying, “Keep opposing (the false belief itself) with your statements, but do not remove your hands from obedience and do not encourage the Muslims to rebel and do not spill your blood and the blood of the Muslims along with you. Look to the results of your actions. And remain patient until you are content with a righteous or sinful rule.” http://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-tyranny-of-the-rulers-a-reason-for-rebellion/ ]

[4] A Brief Acquaintance With Some of Those Who Preceded Haqiqatjou In Conjecture, Deception, and Misguidance: [Those who read and wrote a lot but jested and twiddled with the religion]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] says:

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَتْلُونَهُۥ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ

Those to whom We have given the Book (the Torah and the Qurʾān), recite it as it truly should be recited (through sincere, honest implementation of its teachings, without distorting them). They are the ones who (truly) believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it, then they are the losers.

Imām al-Ṭabarī brings the following reports: Ibn ʿAbbās and ʿIkrimah: “They follow it as it truly should be followed.” Ibn ʿAbbās: “They accept as lawful what it makes lawful, accept as unlawful what it makes unlawful, and do not distort its words from their proper places.” Mujāhid: “They act upon it as it truly should be acted upon.” Ibn Masʿūd and Qatādah: “They treat as lawful what it makes lawful and treat as unlawful what it makes unlawful. They recite it as it was revealed by Allāh. They do not distort its words from their proper places and they do not explain anything of it with other than its (true) explanation.” Al-Ḥasan: “They act upon its decisive verses (muḥkam), believe in its ambiguous verses (mutashābih), and entrust the knowledge of what is difficult for them to its knower”. [1]

Imaam Adh-Dhahabi [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated: “Knowledge is not about an abundance of narration, rather, it is a light that Allah places into the heart. And the condition (for seeking it) is to adhere to it, fleeing from desires and bidah. May Allah grant you and us success (and the ability) to obey Him”. [2]

An Example of a Misguided One Called Al-Jaahiz Who Was Known to Read a Lot and Wrote Many Books, But Well-known For Jesting and Twiddling With The Religion

Ibn Qutaybah [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated about Al-Jaahiz: “You find him arguing at times for the Uthmaaniyyah over the Rafidah, and sometimes for the Zaidiyyah over the Uthmaaniyyah and Ahlus Sunnah, and sometimes he gave precedence to Ali [may Allah be pleased with him], and sometimes he placed him behind others. [Footnote a] He wrote a book in which he mentioned the arguments of the Christians against the Muslims, and when he embarked upon refuting them, he relinquished some of the proof as if he wanted to alert them to what they did not know and to cast doubt on the weak among the Muslims, and you find him intending in his books to mock and twiddle. He mocked at hadith in a way that was not hidden from the scholars, while he was one of the Ummah’s greatest liars, fabricators of hadith, and the most supportive of falsehood”. [3]

Imaam adh-Dhahabi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said about Al-Jaahiz: “He was an insolent person, one who was very negligent in his practice of the religion and held strange views”. [4] “It was apparent from his traits that he used to fabricate”. [5] “He was from the figureheads of Bidah”. [7] “Neither reliable nor trustworthy, rather, he was one of the figureheads of Bidah”. [8]
