Unity Upon the Truth – Shaykh Saalim Baamihriz Telelink

  • The Shaykh mentioned that gatherings of knowledge are blessed and attended by angels, and that knowledge is to taken in order to be acted upon.
  • The Shaykh mentioned that the topic of unity is a subject of utmost importance, and one that is appropriate to speak about constantly.
  • The Shaykh mentioned that unity upon the truth brings tremendous benefits in both a person’s religion and his worldly affairs.
  • The Shaykh mentioned that rebelling against the rulers is forbidden due to the tremendous fitan it unleashes upon the Ummah.
  • The Shaykh mentioned that Muslims must hear and obey the ruler in what is good, even in difficulty or when personal rights are affected.
  • The Shaykh mentioned that advising the rulers must be done privately and sincerely, not publicly or through inciting the people, as this opens the doors to chaos.
  • The Shaykh mentioned the narration of Usāmah ibn Zayd [may Allah be pleased with him]:

that it was said to Usamah Bin Zayd [may Allah be pleased with him], “Will you go to so-and-so [i.e. Uthman – may Allah be pleased with him] and speak to him (i.e. advise him regarding rulership of the country)?” He said, “You see that I don’t speak to him. I speak to (advise) him secretly without opening a door because neither do I want to be the first to open it… [Saheeh Al-Bukhari 3267]

  • The Shaykh explained that ʿUthmān (may Allah be pleased with him) was from the Khulafā’ ar-Rāshidūn, from the ten promised Paradise, yet none of that prevented the people from rebelling against him. This was because their hearts had been filled with incitement against him, to the point that accusations were made against him despite his virtue, until they eventually rebelled.
  • The Shaykh then says that you should know that trial and tribulation may be brought about by people who wear the garb of Islam, or appear as though they seek rectification. Many who appear this way are perhaps not truthful. And some may be truthful in intention, yet they are not granted success.
  • The Shaykh then mentioned the verse

And when there comes to them a matter pertaining to public security or fear, they spread it (among the people). But if only—(before spreading it)— they had referred it back to the Messenger and to those in authority over them, then those (of sound opinion and reason) who could derive the correct conclusions regarding it would have known it. And were it not for the favour of Allāh upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan, except a small (number). [4:83]

  • And the shaykh said here, those that have the ability to investigate, they are the Ulama, they are the scholars.
  • The Shaykh mentioned the necessity of recognising and thanking Allah for the blessings of safety and security, as being ungrateful leads to these blessings being removed.
  • The Shaykh mentioned that many people forget the blessings they have — homes, families and provision — despite living comfortably.
  • The Shaykh mentioned the Qur’anic example of a town which was granted safety and security and provision. But it was the case those individuals disbelieved and rejected the blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, so Allah placed upon them fear and pverty and starvation due to the evil of their actions and opposition to the legislation.
  • Oh my dear beloved brothers, the Shaykh said. Be far removed from every type of evil. Far removed from every type of corruption. And the corrupted factors, they are many. And there are many issues that will put a person to trial.
  • And he says that, be from those that you are exemplaries of your religion, that you are examples of your religion by the permission of Allah. The Kuffar, they should look at you and they should see you and how you are in adherence to your religion and say; This is a religion that I want to enter into. But if it’s the case that you’re going to engage in those lowly affairs and that which is in opposition to the Sharia, then they will see this from you. And they will see what which you are upon and they will not want to be from those that enter into the religion of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
  • And this shows us the importance of us taking heed and acting upon the religion of Allah, in accordance to the Book and the sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ. That we stay away from every corruptive factor. And that we fear Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala concerning ourselves. We fear Allah concerning our Iman, our children, our wives, our offspring and those in authority under us.
  • Likewise, the Shaykh said we should fear Allah so that those entrusted to us are not lost — whether wives or womenfolk — and that we keep far away from trials and tribulations.
  • He said that one does not need to look far; simply look around the world and see the trials various countries are facing. They were not afflicted except due to their own actions.
  • The Shaykh concluded by making du’a for the listeners and giving salam.
