Yoonus Ibn Abdil A’laa (rahimahullaah) said, ”I heard Ash-Shaafi’ee (rahimahullaah) saying, ”It is better for a man to be put to trial with everything that Allaah has forbidden except Shirk than looking into (or engaging himself in) philosophical rhetoric; for indeed I have come across affairs from the people of philosophical rhetoric, which I never thought I would come across (i.e. the deviations of the people of philosophical rhetoric).
“It is necessary that the students of knowledge do their utmost to increase in seeking knowledge; exercising patience in facing every obstacle and having a sincere intention for the sake of Allaah (The Most High) in pursuit of it; for indeed actions are judged by intention. And they should have a fervent desire for Allaah’s Aid and Assistance because good cannot be reached except by the Help of Allaah.”
Zakariyah As-Saajiy (rahimahullaah) said: Ash-Shaafi’ee (rahimahullaah) used to command (one) to study Fiqh and forbid from argumentation in philosophical rhetoric.
Shaikh Muhammad Bin Haadi (may Allaah preserve him) was asked about attendance at Islamic conferences (or gatherings) of knowledge that are under the supervision of the Jam-iyyaat (i.e. Islamic organizations of illegal partisanship) but also attended by Mashaayikh who are considered to be upon the Sunnah….So the Shaikh said that the brothers are aware of his speech concerning all these Jam-iyyaat. These Jam-iyyaat seek to promote and establish their goals through some of the Mashaa-yikh, so Shaikh say that he not see that one should go to them. Some of the Mashaayikh are unaware of the pursuit of these Jam-iyyaat through them; so one should not go to them. [1]

”Whoever wants the dunyah (i.e. a blessed life in this dunyah and not that one seeks religious knowledge for the purpose worldly goods), then upon him is (to pursue) knowledge. And whoever wants the afterlife, then upon him is (to pursue) knowledge.”

”After fulfilling what Allaah has obligated (i.e. through knowledge that is Fard Ayn); there is (nothing) more virtuous than seeking knowledge (i.e. knowledge that is Fard Kifaayah) by way of which the slave seeks to get closer to Allaah.”
And this action (i.e. suicide bombing) will provoke malice and bitterness in his heart to such an extent that he (i.e. the Non- Muslim) may seek to wreak havoc upon the Muslims. This is what is found from the practice of the Jews with the people of Palestine so when one of the Palestinian blows himself up and kills six or seven people, then in retaliation they take sixty or more. So this does not produce any benefit for the Muslims, and does not benefit those amongst whose ranks explosives are detonated. [Translation from salafipublications.com]
