Secondly; The endeavour, effort and striving of a person in obtaining righteousness; seeking, traversing upon the means and paths (that lead to it).

The Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) combined these two affairs in his saying: ‘‘Be eager for that which benefits you and seek the Help of Allaah.’’[3]

‘‘Be eager for that which benefits you;’’ by making an effort in adopting the useful means and beneficial ways through which righteousness is obtained and in the course of which guidance is achieved.

‘‘and seek the Help of Allaah;’’ that is: be dependent upon Him, rely upon Him, seek His Aid and have hope in Him (Subhaanahu-wata-aalaa) to grant, directs and and makes you firm.  And that He becomes your aid towards righteousness and steadfastness.

This (above mentioned) great principle comprises a combination of goodness.

The Second Principle:

And the other principle which must be drawn to attention is that the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger is the fountainhead of righteousness; (it is) the basis for acquiring knowledge of it, the path to having awareness of it and guidance towards it. Therefore, it is obligatory that all reminders towards righteousness are based upon the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Noble Messenger.

As for the Qur’aan, (then) Allaah has stated: ‘‘Verily, this Qur’aan guides to that which is most just and right.’’ [4]  As for the Sunnah and the guidance of the noble Messenger, he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘‘I have left among you two things, as long as you hold to them, you will never go astray; the Book of Allaah and my Sunnah.’’ [5]

So this is the basis of our essay/treatise: ‘The Characteristics of The Pious Wife In The Light Of The Book Of Allaah And The Sunnah Of The Messenger Of Allaah’.  And every characteristic referred to in this speech is brought forth with its proof (and) bounded to its (shariah) evidence from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam).
