Our Salaf–They did not hasten to give verdicts


Abu khaythama narrated in kitaab al-ilm with a chain of transmission going back to Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Bishr Al-Azraq that two men came in from the doors of kinda whilst Abu Mas’ood Al-Ansaari was sitting in a gathering–(so) one of them (.i.e. one of the two men) said: “Is any man here to judge between us?” A man from the gathering said: “I can.” So Abu Mas’ ood got hold of a handful of pebbles and hit him with them. Thereafter he said to him:”Indeed it used to be hated that a person should hasten to give a verdict.
