The goal is to establish the religion of Allaah, [but] neither to give the upper hand to one’s passion [or enthusiasm] nor to [merely] excite the soul. Therefore, if the goal is to aid the religion of Allaah, then indeed a person will follow the closest upright path to accomplish this goal, even if it is by way of gentleness when there is a need for that.
