Remind Youth When They Think That Aspiring to Be Scholars In Islaam Necessitate Abandoning Worldly Pursuits

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu-Bakr Al-Marwazee said: I heard Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad] saying, “Indeed I ordered them (i.e. my children) to go to the market and engage in trade”. (1)

Muhammad Ibn Moosaa said: I heard Ali Bin Ja-far saying: “My father took me along with him to Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah)] and said: “O Abu Abdillaah! This is my son.” So he supplicated for me and said to my father: “Order him to go to the market (for trade) and keep him away from his (idle or bad) companions.” (2)

Abu Bakr Al-Marroodhee narrated to us, saying: I said to Abu Abdillaah (i.e. Imaam Ahmad): ”For what (reason) did Sufyaan Ath-Thawri depart to Yemen?” He said: ”He departed for trade and to meet Ma’mar. They (i.e. the people) said: He (Sufyaan) had a hundred Deenaar, but seventy (Deenaar) is what is correct.” (3)

Abdul Malik Al-Maymoonee reported that Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad] said: A man said to Sariy Bin Yahyah (a student of the Taa’bi’een): “You travel on the sea in search of the dunyah (provision)?! He (Sari) said: “I want to be free from your (state of being) in need of the people.” (4)

Zaheer Ibn Saaleh Ibn Ahmad Bin Hanbal said: I heard my father saying: He used to even take a carpenter’s tool and depart to the houses of the people to carry out some work with his hands. (5)

Yoosuf Ibn Muslim said: I heard Ali Ibn Bakkaar saying: Ibraaheem Bin Adham used to offer himself for employment. Sulaymaan Al-Khawwaas used to glean (i.e. employed as a gatherer of the grain left over after harvest). (6)

Ishaq Ibn Daawud said: “I heard Al-Hasan Ibnul Waqee saying: It is more beloved to me that I (work to) earn two hundred miligrams (of something in weight) than someone giving me ten dirhams. (7)

Al-Allaamah Abdullah Bin Humaid [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “And we do not say that it is prohibited to study the beneficial worldly sciences because the religion of Islaam does not prohibit it, such as the knowledge of medicine, economics, business and its likes. However, these affairs come after rectification of the creed and after being [acquainted with] the knowledge of Tawheed. This is what is specified as an obligation”. (8)

A Natural Behaviour of Birds In The Early Hours of The Morning!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “I heard Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] saying, ‘If you were to put your trust in Allaah in the manner that He deserves, then you would be provided (with sustenance) as the birds are (provided for). They go out early in the day with empty stomachs and return at the end of the day with full (stomachs)'”. (1)

“If you were to put your trust in Allaah in the manner that He deserves” – Meaning, true reliance upon Allaah, complete dependence upon Allaah in seeking your provision and other than that. “Then you would be provided (with sustenance) as the birds are (provided for)”.

The bird’s sustenance is with Allaah. The birds do not have an owner, so they fly in the air and set out early in day in search of Allaah’s Provision. ”They go out early in the day with empty stomachs” – Meaning, in the early hours of the day with hunger and empty stomachs, as Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:
[فَمَنِ ٱضۡطُرَّ فِى مَخۡمَصَةٍ غَيۡرَ مُتَجَانِفٍ۬ لِّإِثۡمٍ۬‌ۙ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬ – ‘But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these mentioned meats), then surely, Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful]. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Verse 3]

Severe hunger is starvation. ”They go out early in the day with empty stomachs” Meaning, nothing in their stomachs. However, they put their trust in their Lord (The Mighty and Majestic], and ”Return at the end of the day with full stomach”. They return in the latter part of the day with stomachs filled with Allaah’s Provision.
So there are proofs in this (hadith) with regards to some affairs.

Firstly, it is incumbent upon the person to have true dependence upon Allaah.

Secondly, indeed, there is no living creature on the earth, except that its provision is due from Allaah. And even the bird in the sky, none holds it up in the sky besides Allaah, and none provides for it besides Allaah. Every creature on the earth, be it as tiny as a small ant or huge like an elephant and its likes, indeed its provision is due from Allaah, as Allaah [The Exalted] said:

[وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ۬ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ رِزۡقُهَا وَيَعۡلَمُ مُسۡتَقَرَّهَا وَمُسۡتَوۡدَعَهَا‌ۚ – And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allaah. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit (in the uterus, grave, etc.)]. [Surah Hud. Verse 6]

And indeed the clearly misguided one is he who harbours suspicion about his Lord. He says, ”Do not have many children, because you will not have enough provision”. By the Lord of the Throne! They have lied, because Allaah will give you more provison if you have more children. There is not a living creature on the earth except that its provision is due from Allaah. The provision for your children and (your) little ones is due from Allaah. He (Allaah) is The One Who opens the doors of provision for you, in order that you may spend on them (your children). However, many people harbour an evil suspicion about Allaah and are dependent on materialistic ideas. They do not look at (the affairs) with far sightedness and in accordance with Allaah’s Absolute Ability, and that He [Glolified be He and free is He from all imperfections] is The One Who provides even if the children are many. The more children you have, the more provision you will be given. This is the correct (belief).

And in this is evidence that the one who truely relies upon Allaah will (also) utilise the means (to attaining what he seeks after). And the misguided one is he who says, “I will not utilize the means and I am one who relies upon Allaah”. This is not correct. The one who has true reliance upon Allah is he who utilizes the means whilst depending on Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]. This is why he [i.e. the Prophet] said, “Then you would be provided (with sustenance), as the birds are (provided for). They go out early in the day with empty stomachs”. Therefore, (the bird) goes out in search of sustenance and does not stay in its nest; rather it sets out early in search of sustenance. So, after truly depending upon Allaah, you must (also) take the means that Allaah has provided in seeking permissible sustenance- through agriculture, trade, work and through any means of seeking sustenance. Seek sustenance whilst depending on Allaah and Allaah will make it easy for you to obtain it.

And from the benefits of this hadith is that the birds and other than them of Allaah’s creation do know Allaah, as Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:

[تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتُ ٱلسَّبۡعُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِيہِنَّ‌ۚ وَإِن مِّن شَىۡءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمۡدِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفۡقَهُونَ تَسۡبِيحَهُمۡ‌ۗ – The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise” ; that is: there is not a thing except that it glorifies Allaah, ” But you understand not their glorification]. [Surah Al-Israa. Verse 44]

See you not that to Allaah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawaab (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and many of mankind? But there are many (people) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allaah disgraces, none can honour him. Verily! Allaah does what He wills. [Surah Al-Hajj. Verse 18]

The birds do know their Lord [The Mighty and Majestic]. The bird seeks after the provision Allaah has allocated for it through a natural disposition that guides it to what is beneficial for it, and returns to its nest in the early part of the evening with a full stomach. This is what it does everyday. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] provides it with sustenance and makes it easy for it to obtain it. And look at the Wisdom of Allaah?! How the birds set off early to a far away place and are guided back to their place of (residence) without failing to find it! (That is) because Allaah gave to each thing its form and nature, then guided it aright. [An Excerpt from ‘Sharh Riyaadus Saaliheen 1/557-560’. slightly paraphrased]

The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “O Allah, bless my people in their early mornings.” When he sent out a detachment or an army, he sent them at the beginning of the day. Sakhr was a merchant, and he would send off his merchandise at the beginning of the day; and he became rich and had much wealth. [Sunan Abu Dawud Hadith Number 2606. Declared authentic by Imaam Albaani (rahimahullaah) in his checking of Sunan abu Dawud]

This shows the importance of this time period. the greatness of the blessings and goodness with it.  The pious predecessors used to dislike sleeping during this time, in order not to waste it in laziness and weakness. Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said that the pious predecessors disliked sleeping between after Fajr prayer and Sunrise because it is a time in which great benefit is obtained. And even when they stayed up late at night [i.e. in worship], they still stayed up until after sunrise, for indeed it is the early part of the day and its beginning time- the time in which provision descends, the time in which one receives his portion of provision and the time in which blessings are obtained. [An Excerpt from Fiqhul Ad’iyah wal-Adkaar’ pages 48-50′ parts 3&4]

Tremendous Reward For The Muslim Due to Exercising Patience After The Death of a Close Relative [a Son, Daughter, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Husband, Wife etc]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [pace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Allaah says, ‘I have nothing to give but Paradise as a reward to my slave- a true believer of Islamic Monotheism, who, if I cause his dear friend amongst the people of the earth to die, remains patience and hopes for Allaah’s reward'”. (1)

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Dear friend”, this means his beloved one, brother, father or wife. If he remains patient and hopes for Allaah’s reward, he will receive Paradise. (2)

Abu Moosaa Al-Ash’ari [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “When a person’s child dies, Allaah says to His angels, ‘You have taken the child of My slave’. They say, ‘Yes’. He says, ‘You have taken the apple of his eye’. They say, ‘Yes’. He says, ‘What did My slave say?’ They say, ‘He praised you and said ‘Innaa lillaahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raaji’oon – Indeed, to Allaah we belong and to Him we shall return’. Allaah says, ‘Build a house in paradise for My slave and call it the house of praise'”. (3)

Patience

Question Shaikh Muhammad Bin Abdillaah As-Subayyil [may Allaah have mercy upon him]: The questioner asks: What is the status of patience and what is the reward for those who exercise patience?

Answer: Patience has a great status in the sight of Allah (The Most High). The Eemaan of a slave (i.e. a male or female Muslim) cannot be perfect without patience. Patience is from the best of deeds and its reward has no limits. When it is the case that one good deed is written as ten good deeds and can multiply until it reaches seven hundred or more, then indeed the reward for exercising patience has no limits, for indeed Allaah ( Glorified and Exalted be He) said: [إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ – Only those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full, without Hisaab (without limit, calculation and estimation)]. (4)

Patience is of three types:

[a] The first type patience is when a person exercises patience (whilst striving) to obey Allaah: A Muslim is commanded to exercise patience (whilst striving) to obey Allaah (The Most High), especially the when fulfilling obligations. And the first of those obligations is the prayer, for it is obligatory to establish it at its fixed time together with all its conditions and obligatory acts. [b] Therefore, patience is required in seeking to fulfill the five daily prayers. When a sleeping person hears the Adhaan of Fajr, he strives against his soul and wakes up, and then he performs Wudhu and goes to the Masjid. This is patience whilst seeking to obey Allaah. One also exercises patience in striving to treat his (or her) parents kindly, dealing with them in a beautiful manner and patiently bearing whatever occurs from that. Allaah (The Most High):

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

[وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا – And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: “My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small].

[رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي نُفُوسِكُمْ ۚ إِن تَكُونُوا صَالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ لِلْأَوَّابِينَ غَفُورًا – Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance].

A person should also exercise patience in seeking to nurture his (or her) children and teaching them good manners and behaviour.

[b] The second type of patience is when a person exercises patience in seeking to restrain him (or herself) from disobeying Allaah: A person excises this patience in order to prevent him or (herself) from sins and (evil) desires. And among those sins a person should keep away from is that he refrains from violating the honour of the people.

[c] The third type of patience is when a person exercise patience when encountered with Allaah’s decree, which maybe something painful (i.e. a calamity): That is because that which afflicts a person, such as the death of a son (or daughter) or being afflicted with a sickness on a person’s the body, or his (or her) sanity, or what may afflict a relative of his (or hers), it is obligated on a person to exercise patience when these affairs are encountered and should hope for Allaah’s reward for being patient. He should know that all these affairs are from Allaah. Allah (the most high) said: [مَا أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ وَمَن يُؤْمِن بِاللَّهِ يَهْدِ قَلْبَهُ ۚ – No calamity befalls, but with the Leave [i.e. decision and Qadar (Divine Preordainments)] of Allah, and whosoever believes in Allah, He guides his heart].

Alqamah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said: This (ayah) is about a person who is afflicted with a calamity and he knows that it is from Allaah. So he becomes pleased with what Allaah has decreed and submit to Allaah’s judgement, and he (or she) says, “This is Allaah’s decree. I believe in Allaah and we are pleased with Allaah’s decree”. So Allaah fills his heart with Eemaan and tranquillity, and he (or she) receives a great reward (i.e. due to his patience). (5)

The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “If one of you is afflicted with a calamity, then let him reflect upon his calamity through me (i.e. my death), for indeed it is the greatest of calamities”. (6)

Imaam Al-Qurtubi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] reported in his Tafseer that Imaam Ibn Abdil Barr [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Indeed, he [i.e. the Messenger] spoke the truth, because indeed the calamity that results from his death is greater than every calamity that will afflict a Muslim after him until the day of judgement. The revelation stopped and Prophethood ceased (forever)”. (7)

There is nothing more severe upon the Muslims than the death of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] because indeed he was the most trustworthy and perfect guide for the Ummah. (8)

We ask Allaah to include us amongst those who exercise patience in all circumstances and greatly reward our beloved Salafi brother Ustaadh Abdul Hakeem and his family for their patience after losing their beloved daughter Aameen. Wallaahul Musta’aan.
