[1] Kissing, Its Different Types and Rulings

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Definition of kissing: It is to place the mouth on something and kiss it, either out of religious practice, showing mercy, honouring (someone), or due to desire (between husband and wife). Kissing can be categorised into two: Kissing as an action, and it is of six types:

[a] A kiss of affection and love for a child and others.

[b] A kiss of mercy and honour for parents and others on the head etc.

[c] A kiss of compassion for a brother and the like.

[c] A kiss of greeting when greeting believers.

[d] A kiss of enjoyment for the wife and the female slave. [Footnote I]

[e] A kiss out of religious practice and seeking nearness (to Allah’s love, reward, etc) such as kissing the Black Stone.

Second, the ruling on Kissing, and it is of three categories:

[a] The kissing that is legislated in the Shariah, but one is not obliged to do so, however, it is better to do so.

[b] The kissing that is neither legislated in the Shariah nor prohibited, but rather it is permissible.

[c] The kissing that is prohibited. Each type will be detailed, along with its ruling in its appropriate place in this research. [1]
