Ubayd ibn Umm Kulāb, may Allah have mercy upon him, reported that he heard Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah be pleased with him, addressing the people in a sermon, saying:
“Do not be amazed by a man’s eloquence or loud, emphatic speech. Rather, the true man is the one who fulfils his trusts and refrains from violating the honour of others.” [1]
Abū Sinān Zayd ibn Sinān al-Asadī said:
“If a student of knowledge learns to speak ill of people before learning an issue of the religion, then when will he ever succeed?” [2]
