[28] The Character Trait Most Hated By The Messenger

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated:

There was no trait more hated to Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, than lying. A man would speak based on lies in the presence of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he would not be content until he knew that he had repented. [Sahih Tirmidhi 1973]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: Allāh’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “The Hour will not be established until fitan becomes widespread, lies become rife, market places become close together, time passes more quickly, and harj becomes widespread.” It was asked, “What is harj?” He replied, “Killing.” (1) [a]

al-Allamah Hamud Al-Tuwayjiri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Indeed, the truth of these ahadith (i.e. regarding the minor signs of the hour) has been manifestly evident as is not hidden from anyone who possesses a modicum of knowledge and understanding. Lies have become rife among the people and easly (uttered) upon their tongues. False reports and stories have become rife and the frivolous books have been beautified with it. (2)

[a] May Allah bless one of my young Mancunian Salafi brothers who reminded me of this hadith today.
