How to Become A Successful Da’ee (Caller to Allah) – Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhalee (rahimahullah)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

It is imperative that the caller to Allah is foremost at acting upon that which he calls to – from adhering to the commands of Allah and steering clear of His prohibitions, and that he follows Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa salam) in belief; worship; interactions; manners and conduct outwardly and inwardly.

Verily some prominent Arabs were asked regarding the reason for their accepting of Islam.

The reply was, “Indeed I found that Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa salam) did not call to anything except that he was the first to implement it, and he did not prohibit anything except that he was the first to avoid it.”

So when a caller takes the Noble Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa salam) as an example (in all affairs), his call becomes pure and sincere, then the means to [convincing] the hearts are made available, then the attentive ears listen and pay attention; the good souls accept it; and the blessed limbs act upon it –  those limbs that received its guidance through flourishing hearts that have been given life and illuminated with the light of true belief whose righteous effects manifest upon the limbs, and thus they are constantly submissive to Allah, The Lord of all that Exists.

Hadeeth: [Olive Oil Is From a Blessed Tree] – With Short Commentary By Shaikh Zaid Bin Haadi [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi Wasallam] said, “Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for indeed it is from a blessed tree”.

Shaikh Zaid Bin Haadi [rahimahullaah] said, “This is something permissible. There is great benefit in olive oil and from that is what the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi Wasallam] has stated, “Eat and anoint yourselves with it”, and he mentioned the reason that it is a blessed tree. And it suffices that Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] made an oath by it in the Qur’aan, saying: [وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيۡتُونِ – By the fig, and the olive]. [Surah At-teen. Aayah 1] And Allaah also praised it a second time in Surah Al-Muminoon when He said: [وَشَجَرَةً۬ تَخۡرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيۡنَآءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهۡنِ وَصِبۡغٍ۬ لِّلۡأَڪِلِينَ  – And a tree (olive) that springs forth from Mount Sinai, that grows oil, and (it is a) relish for the eaters]. [Surah Al-Muminoon. Aayah 20] [An Excerpt from At-taleeqaat Al-Maleehah Alaa Silsilah Al-Ahaadeeth As-Saheehah. Page Vol1. Page 377. Slightly paraphrased]

Nothing Equal to That Love Between Husband And Wife Who Truly Love Each Other!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: “There is nothing like marriage, for two who love one another”. [Ref 1]

Meaning: There is no bond like that bond between two people in marriage who love one another, for if they are married and love is present between them, it will increase in strength every day. [Ref 2]

[Ref 1] Reported by Imaam Ibn Maajah 2/153. Hadeeth Number: 1847. Declared Authentic by Imaam Albaanee in As-Saheehah 2/196]; [Ref 2: Sharh Sunan Ibn Maajah by As-Sindee (rahimahullaah)… Hadeeth Number 1847’ Book of Marriage- Chapter: The Excellence of Marriage]

Hadeeth- Forbidden to Sit at a Table Where Alcohol is Consumed And Forbidden to Lie Down On Stomach Whilst Eating] -With Short Commentary By Shaikh Zaid [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ibn Umar [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] said:

“The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] forbade [two affairs related to eating and drinking]: sitting at a table where alcohol is consumed  and a man who eats whilst lying on his stomach”.

Shaikh Zaid Bin Haadi [rahimahullaah] said: In this hadeeth there is an indication regarding the manners of eating food, because indeed these two deeds are not part of good manners. Firstly, sitting at a table where alcohol is consumed: It is not permissible for a Muslim to sit at a table where alcohol is consumed, because alcohol is the mother of all evil and a person is not safe [in such a situation]. The least sin regarding this affair is that one has shown approval to the one who consumes alcohol at a table. Secondly, it is [the deed of] a man who eats whilst lying down on his stomach; and it has been reported in a narration that the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said about lying on one’s stomach whilst sleeping, “Indeed, it is a way of lying down that Allaah hates”. [Saheeh Al-Jaami 2271] It is not permissible for a man to lie on his stomach, rather he should lie down on his back, or on his right side and that is noblest manner of lying down, or on his left side and there is no harm in that.

Aa’isha [radiyallaahu-anhaa]-Mother of The Believers – Reminded a Lady to Limit Herself to The Authentic Sunnah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ataa [rahimahullaah] narrated, “A woman said in the presence of Aa’isha, ‘If the wife of such and such gives birth, we’ll slaughter a camel’. So, Aa’isha said, ‘But the Sunnah is that two sheep are to be slaughter for the birth of a boy and one sheep for the birth of a girl’”.

Shaikh Zaid said, “In this hadeeth there’s evidence that Ghuluww [going beyond what the Shar’ee’ah has legislated- neither commanded nor recommended] is forbidden, and that adherence to the Sunnah is the truth. If a newly born child is a boy, then his guardian [i.e. father] should slaughter two sheep; and if the child is a girl, one sheep is slaughtered for her. One should not obligate on himself to slaughter a camel, for indeed he has not been commanded to do that. Limiting oneself to the Sunnah is the good thing to do instead of encroaching its legislated boundaries.

Why Did Salaf Author Summarised Books of Aqeedah? – By Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [hafidhahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr [may Allaah preserve him] stated as well as quoted a statement of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] regarding why the Salaf [pious predecessors] and those who followed their path wrote summarised books on Aqeedah- that they did so in order to briefly present the foundation of what distinguishes the Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah from the Aqeedah of the unbelievers, and the Mubtadi’ah, such as the Jahmiyyah, the Mutazilah, the Qadariyyah, the khawaarij, the Mur’ji’ah, the Raafidah etc.

These summarised books of Aqeedah are a beginning for the student and paves the way for him to study the books of Aqeedah that are more detailed. Therefore, after knowing this, it not befitting [or appropriate] for a person to say that such and such scholar fell short in mentioning such and such in this or that summarised book. Those who utter this statement do not know the aim of the Salaf behind these summarised books of Aqeedah. That is because these summarised books of Aqeedah were written to make a brief distinction between the Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunnah and the Aqeedah of Ahlul bidah – accompanied by few examples in the subject matter. For example, when writing about the Attributes of Allaah in these summarised books of Aqeedah, they [i.e. Salaf and the scholars who followed their path] only mentioned some of the Attributes of Allaah, quoted their evidences and the principles regarding how to approach this subject matter, because the same principle applies to the rest of the Sifaat [i.e. the Attributes of Allaah]. Therefore, these summarised books of Aqeedah are very beneficial for the student of knowledge regarding the Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah based on the Qur’aan and Sunnah as opposed to what ahlul bidah wal ahwaa are upon.

What to Strive For When One Hopes to Meet Allaah!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

 Allaah [The Most High] said:

لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ۬ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرۡجُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلۡأَخِرَ وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرً۬ا

Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much. [Surah Al-Ahzaab Ayah 21]

[لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ۬ – Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow]: Meaning: [A perfect] righteous example; [لِّمَن كَانَ يَرۡجُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلۡأَخِرَ – for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day]: Ibn Abbaas said, ‘’For the one who hopes for Allaah’s reward and the bliss [He has kept for His slaves in the Afterlife]. [وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرً۬ا – and remembers Allah much]: Meaning: Remembers Allaah a lot, because the one who truly remembers Allaah is that one who obeys Allaah’s commands [and keeps away from what He has forbidden] unlike the one who is heedless of his Lord. [Ref 1]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah (His Words, the Qur’an) and His Messenger, to judge between them, is that they say: “We hear and we obey.” And such are the prosperous ones. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, fears Allah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful ones. [Surah An-Noor Aayaat 51-52]

The true believers are those whose actions testify to the truthfulness of their Eemaan when they are called to the [Book of] Allaah and the authentic Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger to judge between them – whether it agrees with what they desire or not; for [when they called to that judgement] they say: [سَمِعۡنَا وَأَطَعۡنَا‌ۚ -We hear and we obey]: Meaning: We have heard the judgement of Allaah and that of His Messenger; we respond to the one who call us to it and we obey it wholeheartedly without any reservation. Then Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ – And such are the prosperous ones]. Then Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۥ وَيَخۡشَ ٱللَّهَ وَيَتَّقۡهِ فَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَآٮِٕزُونَ  – And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, fears Allah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful ones]. [Ref 2]

Those Who Swear By Allaah – Their Strongest Oaths – That They Will Obey The Messenger, But Intended Something Else!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

They swear by Allah their strongest oaths, that if only you would order them, they would leave [their homes for fighting in Allah’s Cause]. Say: ‘’Swear you not; [this] obedience [of yours] is known [to be false]. Verily, Allah knows well what you do.’’ Say: ‘’Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, but if you turn away, he [Messenger Muhammad] is only responsible for the duty placed on him [i.e. to convey Allah’s Message] and you for that placed on you. If you obey him, you shall be on the right guidance. The Messenger’s duty is only to convey [the message] in a clear way [i.e. to preach in a plain way].’’ [Surah an-Noor Aayaat 53-54]

Allaah [The Most High] informs us of the situation of those hypocrites who stayed behind and did not join the Messenger in Jihaad (Ref 1) – those in whose hearts there is a disease – that they swear by Allaah that if they are commanded in future to go out for Jihaad, they will do so; but Allaah rebutted them saying: [قُل لَّا تُقۡسِمُواْ‌ۖ -Swear you not]: Meaning: [Say to them O Muhammad], ‘’Neither are we in need of your oath nor your excuses, for indeed we have been informed about  your affair and this obedience of yours is known to be false. This sluggishness and laziness of yours is known to us, even if you do not give an excuse.  Therefore, your oath and excuse is nothing really; rather those in need of making an oath and an excuse are those whose affair is ambiguous, for maybe such excuse will benefit them and absolve them of blame. As for yourselves, then your excuses and oaths do not count; rather what is feared for you is Allaah’s punishment’’ and this is why Allaah said: [إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ – Verily, Allah knows well what you do]: Meaning: Allaah will recompense you fully in accordance with this state of yours. As for the Messenger, his duty is only to give you commands and prohibitions, and this is why Allaah said: [قُلۡ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱلرَّسُولَ‌ۖ – Say: “Obey Allah and obey the Messenger]; [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيۡهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيۡڪُم مَّا حُمِّلۡتُمۡ‌ۖ – but if you turn away, he (Messenger Muhammad) is only responsible for the duty placed on him (i.e. to convey Allah’s Message) and you for that placed on you]: Meaning: If you turn away from the message, then the Messenger has already conveyed it and you are held accountable. Your situation has manifested; your misguidance and deviation is clear, and you deserve punishment. [ وَإِن تُطِيعُوهُ تَهۡتَدُواْ‌ۚ  – And if you obey him, you shall be on the right guidance]: Meaning: You will be guided to the straight path- in speech and deeds- and you have no other path to guidance except through obedience to Allaah and His Messenger. And without [obedience to Allaah and the Messenger], then it is impossible to be guided.

[وَمَا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِينُ – The Messenger’s duty is only to convey (the message) in a clear way (i.e. to preach in a plain way)]: Meaning: He has clearly conveyed the message, therefore, neither is anyone to be in doubt nor in a state of ambiguity. The Messenger has clearly conveyed the message and Allaah is the only one who will call you to account and recompense you. The Messenger has no authority over reward or punishment after fulfilling his responsibility.
