Ali Bin Hafs Al-Bazzaar [rahimahullaah] said, ‘’Hafs Bin Abdir-Rahmaan [rahimahullaah] was a [business] partner of Abu Haneefah [rahimahullaah] and Abu Haneefah used to supply him with [merchandise]. Once he sent merchandise to Hafs and informed him that there was a defect in such and such thobe and that he should make it known before selling it. However, Hafs sold it and forgot to make that known and did not know who he sold it to. When Abu Haneefah knew about it, he gave charity equivalent to the price of all the merchandise. Imaam Ibn Rajab [rahimahullaah] said: When it is the case that the original (place) of Taqwah is in the heart, then none can determine its reality except Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic), as he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’Indeed Allaah neither looks at your images nor your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your actions.’’ And in another narration, [he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)] said: Indeed, Allaah neither looks at your bodies nor your images’’ [1]
Indeed, there may be many a person with a good-looking image, or wealth, or prestige, or leadership in the worldly life, whilst his heart is deprived of Taqwah. And it may be that there is one with nothing (of the worldly life) but his heart is filled with Taqwah, so he becomes nobler in the Sight of Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic); rather this is mostly what happens. Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee (may Allaah preserve him) said:
Indeed, the companions (may Allaah be pleased with them), such as the likes of Abdullaah Ibn Umar freed themselves from the people of bigoted partisanship and desires, as it was narrated by Imaam Muslim (regarding) the time when news reached (Ibn Umar) about those who innovated a doctrine to negate Allaah’s pre-decree; so he (Ibn Umar) said, ”If you meet those ones inform them that I am free from them and they are free from me”; then Ibn Umar (radiyallaahu-anhumaa) said, ”If one of them were to spend in charity gold equal to mount Uhud, it will not be accepted until they believe in the pre-decree of Allaah.”
The cause of the differing that take place between the callers is the differing in methodologies. And had the callers (may Allaah guide them and grant them success) traversed a singular methodology; and that is the methodology of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)– that which the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-sallam) and his companions were upon, then these differences would not have occurred.
Therefore, it is obligatory upon all the callers to make their methodology one–upon the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam); and that their call is (carried out) for the sake of Allaah and to make the word of Allaah uppermost. Their call should not be for the sake of desires, raising individuals or parties; rather their call should be sincerely for Allaah’s Face-making Allaah’s word uppermost; following the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and to aid His Religion. (So) by way of this the differing will cease. [Source: Al-Ijaabaatul Muhimmah Fil Mashaakil Al-Mulimmah (page:221-222)]
Shaikh Zaid Ibn Hadee al Madkhalee (rahimahullaah) said:
The Mubtadi (innovator) is the cause for the splitting (in the Ummah). That is because splitting is connected to innovation and unity (upon the sound creed and methodology of the Salaf) is connected to the Sunnah. The obligation of refuting the Mukhaalif (the opposer of the truth) is not lifted from the scholar due to anticipation of harm, unless it is harm he is not able to bear. Then (in this case), Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear. The earth is not devoid of people of knowledge who will carry out refutation against the Mubtadi and the Mukhaalif. Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah] said:
When you sit with the people, make humility the sign by which you are recognized, fear of Allaah should be your shield and giving advice to the servants of Allaah as your constant habit. Be eager to (make) every gathering in which you sit one of goodness- either research into affairs of knowledge or advice on religious matters; either directing (others) towards a general or a particular beneficial affair, or making a mention of the blessings of Allaah; either making a mention of the superior status of praiseworthy manners and good etiquettes or warning against that which is detrimental to the well-being of one’s religious or worldly (affairs). The least of this [i.e. your companionship and advice to those you sit with] is that the earnings from their occupations should be by way of permissible (means) and not what is forbidden.
Behave well towards the young, the old and your peers. Deal toward everyone in a way they deserve and have respect for the one who deserves to be respected and honoured. Be eager to make your congregation relaxed by way of speech that is appropriate and good, even if that was in relation to the worldly (affairs).
The sensible and determined person achieves abundant goodness in the gatherings of the people and he becomes more beloved to them than all [beloved things]. This is because he approaches the people with what they approve [i.e. good] and statements they desire, and the foundation in this is success in taking over control of all the affairs placed before them.
And these affairs [i.e. good advice and companionship] become more emphasized on a journey, because during a journey sitting together is prolonged and the travellers are in need of having someone who revives their hearts with good statements, the news of events and joke – if all of that is truth and not too much-and to assist them with the essential affairs of travel. And Allaah is the One who grants all success.

Ibnul Mubaarak [rahimahullaah] was asked about the statement of Luqmaan [alayhis-salaam] to his son: ‘’If speech is from silver, then silence is from gold.” So he said: ‘’It means that if speech in obedience to Allaah is from silver, then silence [in order to refrain from] disobedience to Allaah is gold’’.

Abul Haarith As-Saa’iq [rahimahullaah] said, ‘’I heard Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah)] saying, ‘He [The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)] said, ‘The best of the people are those living in my generation’. Therefore, none of his companions are to be compared to the Taabi’een’’’. [Ref 1]
Al-Fadl Bin Ziyaad [rahimahullaah] said, ‘’I heard Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah)] when he was asked about a man who belittles Mu’aawiyah and Amr Ibnul Aas [radiyallaahu-anhuma], whether he should be called a Raafidi? So he said, ‘Indeed, he [i.e. this man] did not become insolent towards them except that he is one with hidden evil [in his heart]. No one belittles anyone amongst the companions of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] except that he has a hidden evil [in his heart]’’’. [Ref 2]

Question: The female questioner asks: Who are the people of Allaah and those closest to Him, and how can a person be from them as occurs in the hadeeth of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]?
Answer:
The hadeeth was transmitted from Anas Ibn Maalik [radiyallaahu-anhu] by Imaam Ahmad [rahimahullaah] and Imaam Ibn Maajah [rahimahullaah], and it is an authentic hadeeth. The Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, ‘’Allaah has His own people [i.e. special people beloved to Allaah] among mankind’’. They said, ‘’O Messenger of Allah! Who are they?’’ He said, ‘’The people of the Qur’aan, the people of Allaah and those are closest to Him’’. [Sunan Ibn Maajah Hadeeth Number 215 and Musnad Ahmad hadeeth number 11870. And declared Saheeh by Imaam Albaani (rahimahullaah)]
The people of the Qur’aan are those who recite the Book of Allaah [i.e. the Qur’aan]; act upon it and implement it in their lives. They fulfil what Allaah has commanded in it and keep away from what He has forbidden. These are Allaah’s people and His Awliyaa [close friends]. They are the pious believers who fear Allaah, just as Allaah [The Most High] stated:
No doubt! Verily, the Auliya’ of Allah [i.e. those who believe in the Oneness of Allah and fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which he has forbidden), and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve, -Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds). [10:62-63]
We ask Allaah to include us amongst the people of the Qur’aan and those closest to Him.

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] stated about the football:
There is no harm in playing football if the following conditions are fulfilled: 1: Clothing worn should cover what is haraam [i.e. awrah] for another person to see. 2: Should not lead to neglecting an obligation. 3: No foul language. 4: Should not be a habit, such as the one who plays every afternoon. As for playing sometimes, there is no harm in doing so for recreation. And there is no doubt that football invigorates the body and strengthens it. [Source: Sharh Hilyati Taalibil Ilm’ pages 46-47]

Imaam Fudayl Ibn Iyaad (rahimahullaah) once cried when he read the statement of Allaah [The Most High]: [أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُ ۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ-Have We not made for him (i.e. the human) a pair of eyes?][ وَلِسَانً۬ا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ -And a tongue and a pair of lips?] [Ref 1]; then he was asked the reason he cried, so he said, ”Have you spent a night really thanking Allaah (for giving) you two eyes by way of which you can see and a tongue by way of which you speak?’’ [Ref 2]
