Qabeesah Bin Qais Al-Anbaaree (rahimahullaah) said: When evening approached Dahhaak Bin Muzaahim used to weep; so he was asked:”What makes you weep?” He said: ”I do not know which of my deeds will be raised today (i.e. accepted by Allaah)” [Sifatus Safwa: 4/150]

Aa’isha [radiyallaahu-anhaa] said: I ask the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) about this Ayah:
[وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ – And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear] [23:60]; are they those who drink alcohol and commit theft?” He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ”O daughter of Siddeeq! Rather they are those who observe fasting, perform prayer and give charity, whilst fearing that their deeds will not be accepted from them.” [Reported by Imaam Tirmidee Number: 3175]
Hasan Al-Basri [rahimahullaah] said: ”The believer combines between perfection (in worship) and fear (that his deeds will be rejected); and the hypocrite combines between evil (deeds) and feeling safe from [Allaah’s punishment]” [Madaarij As-Saalikeen: 1/512]
Maalik Bin Deenaar (rahimahullaah) said: ”A sign of having love for Allaah is (one’s) constant remembrance of Him; because whoever loves a thing will remember it a lot.” [Shu’ab Al-Eemaan: 1/388]
Yoosuf Ibn Asbaat (rahimahullaah) said: ”Purification of the intention from (what) corrupts it is harder upon the performers of (acts of worship) than prolonged striving (worship)” [Jaami al-Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:14]

The tyrant (ruler) of Rome wrote to Khaleefah Al-Mu’tasim intimidating him; so he commanded that the (tyrant) should be sent a reply. He then said to the scribe, ”Write, to proceed: Indeed I have read what you have written and heard your address, and the response is what you will see and not you will hear. [وَسَيَعْلَمُ الْكُفَّارُ لِمَنْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ] ”And the disbelievers will know who gets the good end (final destination)” [Soorah Ar-Radd: Ayah: 42]
