Advice to the Immature Youth who Debate Sufīs & Ash’arīs | Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmi

Shaykh al-’Allāmah Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmi (d. 1416 rahimahullāh) stated:

“I advise the youth who have not yet matured (in their Islamic knowledge and understanding), that they refrain from disputing with the Sufīs and the Ash’arīs, because if you dispute with them and they expose their doubts upon you and you are overwhelmed/defeated (and lost for words), this is regarded as a defeat for the Salafīs.”

The Principles of Debate – By Ustaadh Abu Hakeem

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

All praise is due to Allaah. The Salafiyyoon are serious people and they do not entertain the foolishness of any caller to deviation. Some misguided young fools have adopted a methodology for themselves related to debate – arguing, speculating, jesting and causing confusion- yet they seek to attribute this foolishness of theirs to knowledge and the way of the Salaf.

Indeed, a serious person who truly desires insight into affairs of knowledge should neither enter into what he is not worthy of nor should he approach any affair of the religion based on ignorance. Therefore, we remind ourselves and our younger brothers and sisters that time is precious and short, so let us spend it in what will increase us in sound understanding and righteous deeds.

As this subject matter regarding debate is one that some have entered into due to ignorance and short-sightedness, we remind ourselves and our younger brothers and sisters that we educate ourselves on this subject matter if possible – not for the purpose of debating, rather we learn based on proof and insight in order to safeguard ourselves from the methodology of those foolish ones.

Here are a series of lectures by Ustaadh Abu Hakeem (may Allaah preserve him) regarding the principles of debate. So exercise patience upon seeking after a sound understanding –InShaaAllaah- based on these tremendous series of lectures if you have extra time besides the regular lessons attended in the Salafi Masaajid and Centres. We ask Allaah for beneficial knowledge and righteous actions. Aameen

Follow the Evidences & Not Innovate – Shaykh Zayd Al Madkhalee

Shaykh Zayd ibn Haadi Al Madkhalee (Rahimahullah) said:

Indeed the people are commanded to follow (evidences) and they are prohibited from innovating (in the religion), since they are not allowed except to hold firm to the text and evidences from the Quraan and Sunnah, upon the understanding of the predecessors of this Ummah and those who walked upon their way step by step (exactly without any change).

And there is no allowable pathway to divert away from this to the statements of the people of innovation and misguidances and the people of opposing opinions to the correct Islamic belief and his upright and sound methodology.

Follow the Salafi Methodology with Precision – Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan

And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success. (At Tawbah: 100)

We should all reflect upon this āyah, if we truly desire Allah – subhaanahu wa ta’aala – to be pleased with us.

Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan (Hafidahullah) said:

“Allah has included a condition for those who follow the Muhaajiroon and Ansaar; it is that they follow them with ihsaan (perfection and precision). The Shaykh continues and says meaning itqaan (precision), not claims or ascriptions without actualisation or substance! Not everyone who claims and ascribes to following the methodology of the Salaf is truthful in that, or actualises that; either due to ignorance as to what the methodology of the Salaf is, or due to his desires (so that) he knows what the methodology of the Salaf is, but he (chooses) to follow what the people are upon, or that which suits and is in accordance with his desires.

These people (the one who is ignorant and the one who chooses not to follow) are not upon the methodology of the Salaf and neither are they Salafi; because they have not fulfilled the condition Allah has mentioned in the verse that the Salaf are followed with precision.

Two affairs are required from the one who wants to tread upon the path and methodology of the praiseworthy generations:

1: Knowledge and awareness of what the Salafi Methodolgy is; this requires studying the Methodology, studying the Aqeedah (creed).

2: Clinging and holding tight to this Methodology and its principles regardless of any harms that may come your way; harm from the opposers, being reviled and called evil names.

This requires patience and knowing that this path that you are treading is the straight and upright path; the path of Allah, so be patient and firm and cling to the Salafi Methodology.”

Paraphrased from the lecture of Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan:

ABU USAAMAH TAKES HIS CUT & PASTE METHODOLOGY FROM HIS INNOVATOR SHAYKH ALI HASAN AL-HALABI

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

The Traits of An Innovator: Ali Al-Halabi’s Cutting off Speech,  Playing About with it and Distorting it’s Meanings. Abu Usaamah himself said about Ali Al-Halabi – “ I am a supporter of Ali Hasan Al-Halabi. I support him. I support what he is upon.”1.

Ali Al-Halabi is known for his cutting off speech, adding to it and distorting it, in order to support his corrupt principles. An example of this which follows is his cutting from the speech of Imaam Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sa’di (rahimahullah). Here let us first present to the reader the original text from the Imaam himself, before any distortions were added by Al-Halabi. Once the reader acquaints himself with such trickery then this is in reality enough (a reason) to bring Al-Halabi down and warn against him!

A specimen of the complete speech of Imaam Sa’di from Ar-riyaad An-Naadhirah' page 209 ^^^
A specimen of the complete speech of Imaam Sa’di from Ar-riyaad An-Naadhirah’ page 209 ^^^

Imaam as Sa’di (rahimahullah) said in the above that (slightly paraphrased) “from the repugnant dangerous mistakes is when people accept one another’s speech, then the one who hears that speech establishes love, hate, praise and dispraise based on that”. Then the Imaam further stated that “how many mistakes have been committed [through this behaviour] regarding affairs whose end result became a matter of regret?!  And how many affairs have been spread by people from other people which are complete unreality?! Or it has some reality, so lies and falsehood are added to it, especially those known for not having concern regarding what they narrate, or known for following desires. Therefore, it is obligated on an ‘aaqil (a sensible person with sound reasoning and intellect) that he ascertains, takes precaution and not to be hasty. And by way of this, the religion of a person is known [i.e. the soundness of his path], his composure and ‘aql [sound reasoning or intellect]”

So the above statement is an example of that which was doctored by Al-Halabi purposely to suit his own agenda and methodology. Ali Al-Halabi transmitted a cut down version, in his book [Manhajus Salafus Saaleh’ 2nd Edition’ page 229] from the statement of Imaam Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sadi (rahimahullaah) as follows:

من الغلط الفاحش الخطر قبول قول الناس بعضهم ببعض، ثم يبنى عليه السامع حبا أو بغضا، ومدحا وذما؛ فكم حصل بهذا الغلط من

أمور صار عاقبتها الندامة، وكم أشاع الناس عن الناس أمورا لا حقيقة لها بالكلية،

فالواجب على العاقل التثبت والتحرز، وعدم التسرع.

وبهذا يعرف دين المرء ورزانته وعقله

Specimen of halabis doctored version
Specimen of halabis doctored version

So based on the above version (transmitted by Al-Halabi Al-Mubtadi), it means that the Imaam said “from the repugnant dangerous mistakes is when people accept one another’s speech, then the one who hears that speech establishes love, hate, praise and dispraise based on that”; then he [Halabi] went on to complete it with “how many mistakes have been committed (through this behaviour) regarding affairs whose end result became a matter of regret?!  And how many affairs have been spread by people from other people which are a complete unreality?! Therefore, it is obligated on an aaqil (i.e. a sensible person of intellect) that he ascertains, takes precaution and not to be hasty. And by way of this, the religion of a person is known (i.e. soundness of his path), his composure and aql (sound reasoning or intellect).

After Ali Al-Halabi transmitted this statement, he commented, saying: “Be careful, may Allaah protect you; the Shaikh (i.e. Imaam Sadi) did not distinguish in this warning regarding accepting from a thiqah (a reliable person) and ghayr thiqah (an unreliable person)! Indicating to the mistake that may occur even from a reliable person; and the مفاسد  (corrupt affairs), محن  (adversities, trials ordeals etc),  بلاء  (affliction) and  إحن  (enmity, rancour, malice arises from some affair) that results from it. (See specimen on next page)

Specimen of Halabis comments >
Specimen of Halabis comments

Dear Reader take note! Halabi purposely cut out from the speech of Imaam As-Sadi in order to confuse the reader. The principle utilised by ahlus-Sunnah is that we accept the news given by the one who is thiqah (the trustworthy, reliable person) without the need to verify or check the statement. Halabi wants to distort and change this principle and so purposely omits the following sentence:

[و لها بعض الحقيقة فنميت بالكذب والزور، وخصوصا ممن عرفوا بعدم المبالاة بالنقل، أو عرف منهم الهوى –

Or it has some reality, so lies and falsehood are added to it, especially those known for not having concern regarding what they narrate, or known for following desires.”

So why is it omitted? Because if he were to include the full statement, it would no longer give credence to his own innovated principle of “having to verify from everyone – thiq’a (trustworthy) or ghayr thiq’a (non trustworthy)”. Furthermore he makes manifest his own innovated principle, as part of his notes, in order to pollute the reader’s thinking into holding that you “must check and verify the statements of a thiqa’ person”, in the same way you must verify one who isn’t thiqa’. This is in contradiction to even how Imaam as-Sa’di(rahimahullah) presented it, as he was making clear to the reader to beware those who are untrustworthy- not trustworthy.

So let us see what Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) stated regarding the news given by a faasiq (open sinner) and a truthful person. Allaah (The Most High) said: “O you who believe! If a faasiq comes to you with news, verify it.”

Imaam Sadi commented on this ayah saying:

“This is also from the etiquettes expected from those of understanding to adorn themselves with and implement. And that when a faasiq informs them of some news, they [should] verify the news he transmits (to them) and don’t just simply accept it; for indeed there is a grave danger in that and [risk] of falling into sin. Because if his news is made the same as that of a truthful upright person, the decision is made in accordance with that and what it necessitates. Then lost of lives and wealth occurs without due right due to that information, resulting in regret.

Rather what it is obligatory is that when a faasiq transmits news, it is verified and clarified. If the proofs and supporting factors affirm his truthfulness, it is acted upon and believed. And if they indicate to falsehood, it is declared false and not acted upon.

So in this is a proof that the news [transmitted by] the truthful one is accepted and the news from the liar rejected, while the news from a faasiq is (temporarily) suspended as we have mentioned, and that is why the Salaf would accept narrations from many of those (particular) khawaarij who were well known to be truthful, even if they were wicked sinners.”

Abu Usaamah’s Similar deceitful, cutting, pasting & doctoring to suit his own agenda- Live on stage! A Mirror of the Above from Halabi…

In 2010 Abu Usaamah ad-Dhahabi carried out a similar action, whereby he added to the words of Shaikh Sadlaan during a tele-link. This is an imitation of his mubtadi Shaykh Ali Al Halabi—about whom Abu Usamah himself said (in his feeble video defence when ending up in the wrong masjid):

I am a supporter of Ali Hasan Al-Halabi. I support him. I support what he is upon. His mistakes we put that aside. I say that in public and I say that in private.

Ustaadh Abdulilah Lahmami (may Allaah preserve him) caught him at the time, writing:

“Then Abu Usama Khalifah added in the translation that Sheikh Rabee’ should stop “cursing the dead people… “Due to a hadeeth of the Prophet salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam mentioning this. This addition was not mentioned by Sheikh Sadlan in the Arabic so take note.”

So once again, Abu Usaamah was caught out, adding to the speech of the Shaykh in order to cause confusion, and fitnah; and spread rancour in the hearts of the people toward Shaykh Rabee’ (hafidhahullah)- and this due to nothing except, that which burns inside him, against the noble Shaykh; and the Salafis as a whole. Ustaadh Abdulilah (may Allaah preserve him) also said:

“After visiting Sheikh Rabee’ ibn Haadi Al-Madkhali this weekend, he added that one should clarify to the people that he does not curse the dead (as Abu Usama khalifah added) and likewise to make mention that the scholars have always refuted the errors of those who have erred. Likewise, these refutations are a mercy for the dead so that people don’t follow them in their errors.’’2

Here we remind you again the statement of Shaikh Muhammad Baazmool: “And whenever you find the statement of a muhaqqiq scholar being utilized as proof by a person of bid’ah and falsehood in seeking to establish his falsehood; and you refer that statement back to its original source- you will not find except that this (person of falsehood) did cut off and separate some part of it from another part.’’3

And so we can see that the bid’ee Abu Usaamah is just a mirror of his innovator Shaykh Ali Hassan Al-Halabi. There is no difference in their methodology! This is affirmed by Abu Usaamah ad-Dhahabi’s own statements as quoted before; as well as his actions, wherein both have been caught twisting speech of the Scholars of truth and Sunnah, in order to suit their agenda and ideology that they want to promote.

It is important that the noble reader is made aware of such sneaky trickery, lest they be taken in by their speech, and be taken astray, and with Allah is the success.

[5] The Blessing of Security’ By Shaikh Muhammad Baazmool

Those Evil Affairs That Befalls both Individuals and Society When Security Is Loss

Firstly: The disappearance of the Jamaa’ah leads to disappearance of (the sound) religion; then the evil people will overpower the good people. The people of corruption and falsehood become stronger than the people of uprightness and truth. The corrupters hasten to spread corruption in the earth – spreading terror and fear- and fear is instilled in the hearts of the people…

Secondly: People are hindered from the affairs of their (daily) lives -businesses close and the schools that were opened to teach the young and old are deserted; (people are) hindered from work and trade becomes stagnant.

Thirdly: It may lead to deterioration in some people’s (mental wellbeing) and thus may either lead to insanity or suicide etc This is the hardship a person exposes himself to due to abandoning Allaah’s Sharee’ah.  [Allaah said]:

But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur’an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection. [20:124]

Fourthly: It leads a person to fall into trial. Allaah (The Most High) said:

فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَن تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them. [End of Ayah (24:63)] and that is the Fitna of lowly desires and the fitna of doubts in one’s religious affairs.

Fiftly: Fear replaces security in different ways; so political security, economic security, social security and physical well-being are loss, and (likewise) protection against (corrupt ideas and thoughts).

Sixthly: Human life will be given no value, so a person is killed but will not know why he was killed and the one who killed him will not know why he really killed.

Narrated ‘Abdullãh and Abu Moosaa: ‘’The Prophet said, “Near the establishment of the Hour there will be days during which general ignorance will spread, (religious) knowledge will be taken away (vanish) and there will be much Al-Harj, and Al-Harj means killing.’’ [Bukhaari Number 7065]

Abu Huraira reported Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: The world would not come to an end until a day would come to the people on which the murderer would not know as to why he has killed and the slain would not know as to why he has been murdered. It would be said: Why would it happen? To which he replied: It would be because of general massacre and bloodshed. And the slaughterers and the slain would be in Fire. [Sahih Muslim Number 2908]

Seventhly: Oppression will be widespread in the earth and the oppressor will not be stopped. The best of us will supplicate to Allaah but it will not be answered due to (the presence of) too much wickedness.

To be continued In-Shaa-Allaah

What Really was said by Shaykh Ahmad Najmi about Abu Usaamah Dhahabi

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

In his deceitful response to the Friday incident, whereby Abu Usaamah came to the wrong masjid (in order to give khutbah) before being ushered out; he put forward an absurd complaint about the fatwa from Shaykh Ahmad an Najmi (rahimahullah) against him, which has been quoted since the incident.

In his usual manner, Abu Usaamah did not quote the full question asked in his youtube published video response; a crime he has committed previously and still not repented from. It is clear that cutting, pasting, twisting and hiding, is habitual for this individual, as anyone with the least bit of experience of his past capers, clearly can attest to. He did the same with regards to Shaikh Rabee’ al Madhkhali and with regards to Ustaadh Abu Khadeejah1.

Let us examine briefly this point Abu Usaamah is trying to make. According to him, Shaikh Ahmad an-Najmi (rahimahullaah) was asked “there is a person in America, he supports Abul Hasan al-Maribi, how should we deal with him?”

To the average listener who does not know, this seems a generalised question, about any person in America (who may support Abul Hasan). And so the cries will come “how can this be applied to Abu Usaamah!”- Well then let us be completely clear… This is not the full question the Shaykh was asked. Once again here we have a classic example of his cutting, pasting and selectively exposing his listeners to only a part of the fatwa; most likely due to the incriminating position he would have put himself in, had he quoted it in its entirety.

Rather the full question is as follows:

“O Shaykh Ahmad we have with us in America a man called Abu Usaamah, who is considered to be from the Du’aat, he aids and supports Abul-Hasan and he calls some noble Salafi brothers ghulaat (extremists), muqallidah (blind followers), and muhqiboon (the people whose religion is the religion of the one they blindly follow), so what is the legislated position from this man and how should we deal with him?’’

The Shaikh response was:

“Your position with him is the same as your position with the People of Innovation. Turn away from him and abandon him.

After reading the full question (and answer) then it is clear to the reader, that his argument falls flat. The Shaykh is most certainly referring to Abu Usaamah. This is yet another attempt to dupe the common people.

When we mention the deception and twisting, of Abu Usaamah, it is not merely lip service. Those who may not have known previously, or do not perhaps understand this deceitful methodology, should no longer be in any doubt. It is clear that he did not complete the question, to hide the truth from his unsuspecting audience.

Why? Because it will clearly manifest the severity of his bid’ah. He hid the specific nature of this question, so a general person will retort those who refute him, with statements such as “you are harsh” or “it wasn’t even him who the Shaykh was talking about”. We have already heard such statements, emanating from those without complete knowledge of the situation. Thus, this is his method of twisting and hiding the truth, by which he continues to pull the wool over the eyes of many innocent and unsuspecting people.

Perhaps his position of “shaykh” to some, that he has carved out through deceit and treachery over they years, will be lost if this reality was made clear to them and Allah knows best.

Playing the victim (yet again) he complained that the Salafis are always quoting this fatwa of Shaikh Ahmad (rahimahullaah) against him, in order to keep reminding the people; and he brands those that listen as “sheep”. Unfortunately for him, his opinion is in opposition to reality. The person who reads the knowledge based refutations against him isn’t a sheep; but has now had the chance to witness the full evidence against Abu Usaamah; something he (Abu Usaamah) tried his utmost to hide, when cutting and pasting from the fatwa.

Nevertheless, the answer to this doubt is very simple. We will continue to quote this fatwa, and we will continue to warn against him; so long as he continues spreading false principles in the issues of Jarh Wat-Tadeel2. How ironic it is, that Shaikh Rabee’, whom he holds a huge disdain for, so simply and clearly outlines a precise rebuttal of this Ma’ribi3-esque statement:

”And they (i.e. the people of baatil and fitan) do not keep quiet- they spread their falsehoods in their newspapers, magazines and audio tapes, while wishing that the voice of truth should be silent. In their view, the voice of truth is what should be silent and the voice of falsehood should be raised and spread in the earth! Do they remain silent?! The people of falsehood do not remain silent- they neither abate nor slow down. They have [ خطط جهنمية -i.e. paths or footsteps leading to the hell fire] which they enforce and thereafter they demand silence from the people of truth!” [Source: Source: Question number 16; Page 28-29 in الإجابات الجلية عن القضايا المنهجية]

[4] The Blessing of Security’ by Shaikh Muhammad Baazmool

Without security, there cannot be a (good or fruitful) life for the people! And without security, neither the worldly nor religious affairs will be established (properly). Fitan leads to loss of security, then a pleasant life of obedience to Allaah (The Most High) alternates into a life of hardship due to disobedience to Allaah and departing from His Sharee’ah; whereas fear of Allaah and listening to the rulers (in what is good) and obeying them are the foundations of security. And opposing this (leads to) the loss of a pleasant life and falling into a life of hardship. Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنكًا وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَعْمَىٰ

But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur’an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection.[20:124]

People fall into agony of fitan, just as Al Hasan Al-Basri said,  ‘’Indeed, Al-Hajjaaj is the punishment of Allaah; so do not repel the punishment of Allaah with your own hands. Rather you must submit and show humility because indeed Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

“And indeed We seized them with punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allaah) with submission to Him.’’ [23:76]

A Short Notification to The Who Says, ‘’Why can’t we consider people in other countries to be scholars when it is the case that….

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Some people – (especially some of those who think that a person they consider to be knowledgeable is not being given his right status) – argue that why can’t we consider people in some other countries to be scholars when it is the case that they graduated and have been teaching for over twenty years just like their classmates who are now considered to be scholars?! We say to them, ‘’The scholars are declared to be scholars by those who are qualified to give them such a title. It is not left to me (a commoner) or yourself [a commoner; (unless am unaware that you have reached the level of those who are qualified to decide who is worthy of being called a scholar or not)]; rather there are those qualified to give this verdict based on what they know about the one they regard to be from the scholars. See what Shaikh Fawzaan says about Shaikh Rabee;

http://www.salaficentre.com/2012/03/shaikh-saalih-al-fawzaans-recommendation-for-shaikh-rabee-al-madkhalee-2/

After listening to the above, you (the one who utters this argument) should also know that it not enough to be declared a scholar, rather a person has to be upon a sound methodology because one is judged by the people of knowledge based on what he is upon. See what Shaikh Rabee says here

“Mix Not Truth with Falsehood” – Ibn Al Qayim

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth). [2:42]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said: Allaah forbade (us) from mixing truth with falsehood, and thus leading to concealment of the truth. Mixing truth with false is by mixing the two until one of them is confused for the other. This is forgery and deceit by way of which what is made apparent is the opposite of what it is in reality. Likewise, when truth is confounded with falsehood, the culprit manifests falsehood in the image of truth and speaks with a statement that carries two meanings- a correct meaning and false meaning, so the listener is under the illusion that the speaker intends the correct meaning, whilst he (i.e. the speaker) intends the corrupt meaning.

[Source: Badaa’i At-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibnul Qayyim’ Vol 1, page 124. Abridged and slightly paraphrased]
