Woe to you! place it on my head, for there is no more space in my stomach

Imaam Dhahabi stated in the biography of Bilaal Bin Abee Bardata Bin Abee Moosaa Al-Ash-ari that once he was amongst a group of people partaking in food.  Al-Madaa-inee stated that Bilaal sent for a butcher before day break, so he entered upon him with a stove and a big billy goat.  He said: ”slaughter it, strip off its skin and make its meat into a kebab”, so that was carried out and he sent for a dining table and placed it on it.  So the meat started being made into kebab and whenever something of it was ready to be eaten he would place it on his hand and eat, until the meat of the billy goat became very thin and nothing remain from it, except its stomach and bones, and a few pieces were left on the table.  So he said to me: ”I have eaten all of it.”  Then a slave girl came along with a cooking pot and in it were two chickens, two young birds and a wrapped food wrapping paper.  So he said (to the slave girl): ”Woe to you! Place it on my head for there is no more space in my stomach.”  We all laughed.

He recited a Juz in the morning prayer until nearly sunrise and I fell down

Imaam Dhahabi (rahimahullaah) mentioned in the biography of Abbaadata that he was one who (liked) to joke and jest.  It was related that Abbaadata entered upon Al-Mutawakkil and he promised to beat him.  He (Mutawaakil) said (to Abbaadata): ”Did you slap the Imaam of the masjid?”  He (Abbaadata) said: O leader of the believers! I entered into the Masjid whilst I was in a hurry, so he led us for the Morning Prayer and prolonged it.  He recited a Juz until the sun was about to rise and I fell down.  Then after the Tasleem he said: ”Repeat your prayer because I was not in a state of ablution”, so I slapped him once.  Mutawakkil laughed.

Are the 2 units before Maghrib from the Sunnah? Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Question:
Is it from the sunnah to pray two units of prayer between the Adhaan and Iqaamah of Maghrib?

Answer:
Yes, it is from the sunnah to pray two units before Maghrib; ie between the adhaan and between the iqaamah, for indeed the Messenger -صلى الله عليه و سلم- ordered with it 3 times in an authentic hadith:

“Pray before maghrib, pray before maghrib, pray before maghrib for whoever wills”(1)

His statement “for whoever wills” indicates his -صلى الله عليه و سلم- disliking that the people take it as a Sunnah; ie as a regularly established Sunnah, so praying two units before Maghrib; ie between the adhaan and iqaamah is a sunnah, however it is not a regularly established sunnah.

So it is not befitting to be performed all the time; in contrast to the regular sunnah prayers such as those before Fajr, Dhuhr and Isha, which are prayed consistently except when one is travelling, when it is from the sunnah to not pray any of the regularly performed sunnah prayers of Dhuhr, Maghrib or Isha.

To conclude:

The Messenger of Allah -صلى الله عليه و سلم- said

“Between every two adhaans is a prayer” (2)

Ie between the adhaan and iqaamah is a superogatory prayer, however for Fajr and Dhuhr it is regularly performed and for Asr, Maghrib and Isha it is not regularly performed.

Busying oneself with Knowledge or Work? – Shaykh Fawzaan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan was asked:

Is it better to devote oneself with seeking of knowledge or occupy oneself with trade (seeking after sustenance) ?

Answer:

There is no doubt there is nothing equal to the seeking of knowledge; however seeking knowledge does not prevent occupying oneself with trade (seeking after sustenance), evidently he seeks knowledge in its time and he occupies himself with trade (seeking after sustenance) in its time.

Traveller prayed with residents – Shaykh Saalih Al-Luhaydaan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykh Saalih Al-Luhaydaan حفظه الله was asked:

A traveller came upon a people, whilst he was a traveller and found them praying Asr, they had prayed two units of prayer, he joined with them the (remaining) two units of prayer; does he give the salaams (finish the prayer) or does he complete (4 units)?

Shaykh Saalih Al-Luhaydaan answers:

Rather he completes, the traveller if he joins with the residents his prayer is a residents prayer, that which he reaches of the prayer he prays, and that which he missed of it, he completes.

I missed Saalutul Fajr because I was awake all night – Shaykh Al Fawzaan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

A questioner asks:

What is the ruling on the one who sleeps through Salatul Fajr due to staying up late into the night for the purpose of studying?

Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan answers:

Mashaa Allah! Mashaa Allah! This is a successful one(!) he neglects the obligation (of Fajr Prayer), and he stays awake through the night.

What is the meaning of seeking of knowledge here?! Whilst he is losing and neglecting the obligatory acts, there is no benefit in this seeking of knowledge.

Salaatul Fajr is a must to be prayed in its correct time with the congregation and there is nothing that takes precedence over it.

Is Shisha Halal or Haram? – Permanent Committee of Scholars

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Many of the Muslims young and old have fallen into the fitnah of smoking; and in recent times the fitnah of “Shisha” has spread exponentially, so much so we would be hard pressed if we did not know or know of someone who has not been affected by this evil.

And many are deceived by Shaytaan and attempt to make a distinction between smoking of cigarettes and shisha.

May Allah protect us from being deceived by the accursed Shaytaan and following our desires in opposition to the truth.

The Permanent Committee of Scholars said:

Shisha, hookah and smoking are from the khabaa’ith (evil, unlawful things) and they are haraam (prohibited), due to that which they contain of harm to the body and to the wealth.

And Allah the Most High said in description of his Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم):

وَيُحِلُّ لَهُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَيُحَرِّمُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْخَبَائِثَ

And He allows them as lawful At-Taiyibat [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.], and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khaba’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.)

Surah Al-A’raaf Verse 157

And it is affirmed upon the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) that he said:

” There should be neither harming not reciprocating harm”

Washing the dead – Shaykh bin Baz

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Question:

What is the authenticity of the Hadith:

“whoever washes a dead person then upon him is to make ghusl and whoever carries the dead then he has to perform wudoo”?

And is this the command of obligation or recommendation? And why?

Answer:

The aforementioned Hadith is weak; and verily it has been affirmed from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in other narrations, that which indicates the recommendation of performing ghusl after washing a dead person.

As for carrying (the dead person) then it is not correct to make wudoo and neither is it recommended, owing to the lack of evidence in this regard.

Majmoo’ Fataawa Shaykh bin Baz

This one has cursed Allah -Subhaanahu wa t’ala- Shaykh Fawzaan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan was asked:

Has everyone disbelieved who curses the religion or rejects the sunnah?

He answered hafidahullah:

There is no doubt whatsoever in this; whoever curses the religion or rejects the Sunnah then verily he has disbelieved, because he is a denier and disbeliever in the Sunnah; also he who curses Allah’s religion, which Allah has chosen for his slaves; then he has cursed that which Allah has chosen for his slaves and legislated for them, so this one has cursed Allah -azza wa jal- there is no doubt at all of his disbelief , he who  belittles Allah (and attributes deficiencies to him; Glorified and far removed is Allah from all imperfections) .

Do not compromise with her religion, dignity and honour – Shaykh Fawzaan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

A questioner from Britain asks:

Is it obligatory upon the woman to wear the jilbab and coverings, if there was difficulties for her in that country?

The shaykh hafidahullaah answers:

Yes the coverings and the hijab are binding upon her in any country, because she is a Muslima. So do not bargain and compromise with her religion, honour and dignity.

May Allah azza wa jal bless our sisters with istiqaamah upon the religion of Islaam and enable them to fulfill their religious obligations and by way of them raise up pious righteous Muslim children upon the correct Islamic Aqeedah.
