”O son of Aadam: Indeed, you do not keep silent except that you are safe; but be careful when you do speak, because it will either be for you or against you.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:144]
It was said to Sad Ibn Abee Waqqaas (radiyallaahu-anhu): ”Amongst the companions of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) your supplication is answered?” He said: ”I have never put a morsel of (food) in my mouth, except that I knew where it came from and where it originated.” [Jaami-ul Iloom Wal-Hikam: page: 115]
”We do not recognize one (merely) due to his accomplishment of a lot of prayers and fasting; rather what is recognizable to us are generosity, guilelessness and being good natured, and to give sincere advice to the Ummah.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: Page: 91]
”An action may be small, but it is magnified by the intention (behind it); and it may be that an action is big, but it is made small by the intention (behind it)” [Jaami-ul Uloom wal-hikam: page:16]
Once we were with Shu’bah (rahimahullaah), so Sulaymaan Ibnul Mugheerah (rahimahullaah) came along whilst weeping. Shubah (rahimahullaah) said to him, ”What makes you weep O father of Saeed?” He said, ”My donkey died; I missed the Jumu’ah prayer and my needs.” He (Shubah) said: ”How much did you buy it for?” He said, ”Three Deenaars.” He (Shubah) said, ”I have three Deenaars; by Allaah I do not have other than it. O boy bring that scrap (of cloth)” and in it was three deenaars, so he gave it to him (i.e to Sulaymaan) and said, ”Buy a donkey and do not weep.” [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 7/211]
I saw Al-Awzaa’ee (rahimahullaah) and it was as if he was blind due to humility. [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 7/199]
Baqiyyah Ibnul Waleed (rahimahullaah) said:
”Al-Awzaa’ee (rahimahullaah) said to me: ”O Baqiyyah! Do not mention any of the companions of your Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) except with good. Knowledge is that which has been narrated from the companions of Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), and that which has not been narrated from them is not knowledge.” [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 7/120]
Baqiyyah Ibnul Waleed Bin Yazeed (rahimahullaah) said:
Al-Awzaa’ee (rahimahullaah) said: Love of Uthmaan and Ali (radiyallaahu-anhumaa) is not gathered except in the heart of a believer. [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 7/120]
Muhammad Bin Katheer Al-Maseesee (rahimahullaah) said:
I heard Al-Awzaa’ee saying: The Taa’bi’een were widespread, whilst we used to say that Allaah is above His Throne and we believe in the Attributes of (Allaah) transmitted in the Sunnah. [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa:7/121]
Al-Waleed Bin Mazeed (rahimahullaah) said:
I heard Al-Awzaa’ee (rahimahullaah) saying: If Allaah wishes evil for a people, he opens for them the door of argumentation and prevents them from action. [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa:7/121]
Ma’mar (rahimahullaah) narrated from Az-Zuhree (rahimahullaah) who said: ”When a sitting is prolonged, shaytaan has a share from it.” [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa:5/341]
Shu-aib (rahimahullaah) narrated: I said to Ibn Seereen: ‘’what is your view concerning listening to the people of desires (i.e. ahlul bidah)? He said: ”We neither listen to them nor honour (them).” [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 4/611]
Hishaam (rahimahullaah) narrated from Muhammad Ibn Seereen (rahimahullaah) who said: Whenever a man wished to travel for trade, he was told: ”Fear Allaah (The Most High) and seek that which has been decreed for you; because if you seek it from other than that, you will not get more than what has been decreed for you.” [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 2/263]
Taawoos (rahimahullaah) said to me: You either get married or else I will say to you what Umar Ibnul Khattaab (radiyallaahu-anhu) said to Abee Zawaa-id: Nothing prevents you from marriage except impotency or evil deeds. [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 4/6]
Ibn Taawoos narrated from his father (Taawoos) who said:
Miserliness is that a person is miserly with what he has in his hand; and greediness is that a man loves to have what people have in their hands through unlawful means. He is not contented. [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 4/6]
