Political Islam and Islamists: Convenient and Opportunistic Conceptual Distortions

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Political Islam and Islamists: Convenient and Opportunistic Conceptual Distortions by Ideologues, Demagogues, and Rabble-Rousers

Allah, The Most High, said:

إِنَّكُمْ لَفِى قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ
يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ
قُتِلَ ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ

Indeed, you are in differing speech (regarding the Prophet and this Qurʾān). Misguided away from it (the Qurʾān) are those who have been misguided (by such speech). (So) cursed be the premeditated liars (who spread doubts and lies regarding Allāh and His signs). Who are immersed in a flood of heedlessness (and ignorance). [Adh-Dhariyat 8-11] [1]

Indeed, some ideologues, demagogues, and provocateurs, under the guise of academic research, employ various terminologies to articulate their own interpretations of the Shariah. Thus, they render judgments that aim to classify groups identifying as Muslim or to critique Islam itself, often relying on partial truths or the distortions and innovated practices of the misguided sects that affiliate with Islam. A notable example of this is the term “Political Islam,” which they often utilise when addressing the Takfiris, Sururis, and other advocates of innovated political activism. Consequently, individuals not fitting this characterisation – in their view – are assigned alternative labels, such as moderates or non-violent extremists. Perhaps the most ludicrous classification is the division of Salafiyyah into Quietists, Politicos, and Jihadists. [Footnote a]

Firstly, the term “Political Islam”, when associated with certain groups, can inadvertently suggest a superficial categorisation, rather than clarifying the distinction between advocates of innovative political activism and the established political framework of the pure Shariah. Thus, the aim here is to transmit some statements of the Salafi scholars regarding Islam and politics.

First, it is essential to recognise that in Islam, the realms of state and religion are intricately intertwined, with no separation between the two. Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The intent behind ‘Separation between religion and Siyaasah’ implies that the ruler can do what he wants according to what he thinks is a means to fulfilling (responsibility) of state affairs, regardless of whether it aligns with Shariah or not; or even what he does is based on the judgement of the religion. This is because separation denotes a distinction between two entities and asigning them specific definitions. Thus, the ruler may pursue what he considers to be beneficial even if it opposes the Shariah. Undoubtedly this is a false and sinfu; statement, as religion and Siyaasah are inherently interconnected; however, what we mean by Siyaasah is the Siyaasah that is based on justice rather than oppression. The religion came to promote well being for the people in their behaviour towards their Lord and with one another. It establishes the Rights of Allah, rights for the people- parents, relatives, wives, and the Muslims at large. Even for non-Muslims, Islam has given them rights that are well known to the scholars.
It establishes the conditions for war and peace, punishments for crimes- some of which are explicitly defined in texts, while others are subject to the discretion of the ruler, as well as other matters that clearly illustrates that Islam, in its entirety, is Siyaasah. The root of the word Siyaasah is Saa’is, referring to one who oversees the welfare of animals, ensuring their well-being and protecting them from harm. This principle is evident when we reflect on the religious matters that Allah has legislated for His servants, which are essential for establishing (a fruitful, stable, orderly, and safe) life; and prohibited actions that will corrupt their circumstances- either affecting everyone or specific individuals. Thus, it can be asserted that the entirety of the religion is Siyaasah. We are certain that anyone who dissociates Siyaasah from the Religion, and implement Siyaasah based on what he sees fit and what he forbids, his Siyaasah is corrupt and will cause more harm than good. If one aspect is rectified based on his dificient opinions, it greatly corrupts from another angle. Therefore, it is incumbent that one reflects on the circumstances of those who base their Siyaasah on their desires and opinions, distancing themselves from the principles of Islam. You will find – after contemplating – that either the entirety of their Siyaasah is corrupt or most of it. If it rectifies a matter from one perspective, it corrupts from another. Consequently, the separation of between Siyaasah and religion is a sinful deed and it is obligated to the one who seeks to rectify himself and others to do so in accordance with Islam.  [2]

The Ruler and The Subjects

Allah, The Exalted, said:

Verily! Allah commands that you should render back the trusts to those, to whom they are due; and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allah) gives you! Truly, Allah is Ever All-Hearer, All-Seer. O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayaat 58-59]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The scholars say that the first verse was revealed regarding the rulers – that it is obligated on them to render back the trusts to those whom they are due and that when they judge between the people they do so with justice. And the second verse was revealed regarding those under the ruler’s authority, the armies and other than them- that it is obligated on them to obey the rulers who establish justice in their distributions, rulings, military expeditions and other affairs, except when they command one to commit an act of disobedience to Allah, because there cannot be obedience to the creation in disobedience to Allah. And if they differ in any matter, they should return to the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. If the rulers do not do this, then they are only obeyed in that which is in agreement with obedience to Allah and His Messenger, their rights are fulfilled just as Allah and His Messenger commanded and they are aided in righteousness and piety, but not in sin and transgression”. [3]

Siyaasah: Siyaasah means to regulate the affairs of the citizens. It has jurisdiction over the individual’s behaviour and the society as a whole. It involves Islamic jurisprudence through which the rulers are facilitated with knowledge and understanding of the rulings related to looking after the affairs of the state, its set-ups and Shariah principles. [4]

The Discourse Surrounding The Terms Islamist, Fundamentalism etc

In the discourse surrounding the terms “Islamist” and “Islamic Fundamentalism,” some ideologues, demagogues, and provocateurs have crafted their own interpretations. They define an “Islamist” as someone who possesses a profound belief in Islam, particularly one who advocates for the influence of Islam on political frameworks, or proponents of Islamic militancy or radicalism. This characterisation, however, is a blend of both truth and falsehood. If we accept that an “Islamist,” as per these narratives, is an individual who ardently believes in Islam and seeks its integration into governance, such a conviction is indeed commendable in the Sight of Allah. Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhalee, may Allah safeguard him, stated:

Whoever Allah wishes good for, He grants him understanding of the religion. When this understanding in the religion is mentioned to the people, they understand it to mean the books of Islamic jurisprudence [i.e. the books that discuss the rulings related to prayer, zakat, fasting, marriage etc]. This is a deficient understanding. Fiqh (understanding) – first and foremost – is the understanding of the (sound) creed and Tawheed (i.e. sound Islamic monotheism). This is the highest level of Fiqh because the nobility of knowledge is judged based on the nobility of its subject matter. The best and noblest subject matter is Tawheed, which teaches the people about the Attributes of their Lord and the perfection of His Attributes, about His Oneness, to worship Him (alone) and sincerely establish the religion for His Sake. Therefore, we seek understanding of Tawheed from Allaah’s Book, the (authentic) Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and from the understanding of our pious predecessors. We seek understanding in all areas of (Shariah) knowledge – understanding of halal and haram, acts of worship, mutual dealings, sound Islamic politics, economics and in every affair. All these affairs – and all praise and thanks be to Allah – are extensively (found) in the (message) brought by Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. When Fiqh is mentioned, its intended (meaning includes) understanding of every affair that is connected to our religious and worldly affairs, and the foremost of them is the knowledge of Tawheed [Islamic Monotheism]. There is nothing that can do without the knowledge of Tawheed. [5]

However, the crux of the issue lies in their manipulation of terminology for the sake of ideological conflicts, leading to a lack of consistency in their discourse on these issues. This inconsistency often serves their ulterior motives of deception and defamation. On the other hand,  when it aligns with their political ambitions, they label these same people they used to label Islamists as freedom fighters, a tactic observed in regions like Libya and beyond. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to follow the Shariah definitions articulated by the Salafi Scholars, ensuring a thorough understanding rather than merely echoing the terminology employed by the ideologues who utilise them for their ideological wars.

In the second instance, when these ideologues define the term ‘Islamist’ as equivalent to militancy, radicalism, or terrorism, it is imperative to clarify that no negative connotations should be ascribed to Islam itself. Instead, such actions are predominantly linked to the khawarij and those influenced by their ideologies. It is widely acknowledged that these groups—regardless of whether they are labeled as Islamists or deemed freedom fighters by ideologues when it serves their interests in inciting rebellion against Muslim leaders—distort the teachings of Shariah to pursue their own corrupt objectives. Listen here: https://video.link/w/tr4U [Refer to Footnote b]

As for the term ‘Islamic Fundamentalism’, it often sparks considerable debate among individuals regarding its interpretation. However, it is commonly understood by those who employ it to signify a rigorous adherence to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Shari’ah (Islamic Law). Thus, if this is the connotation that the ideologues associate with ‘Fundamentalism,’ then it is indeed in alignment with the truth if free from exaggeration and negligence. Allah said:

But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. [An-Nisaa. 65]

Narrated Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

My example, and the example of what I have been sent with is that of a man who came to some people and said, O people! I have seen the enemy’s army with my own eyes and I am a plain warner; so protect yourselves!’ Then a group of his people obeyed him and fled at night proceeding stealthily till they were safe, while another group of them disbelieved him and stayed at their places till morning when the army came upon them and killed and ruined them completely. So this is the example of that person who obeys me and follows that truth which I have brought (the Qur’an and the Sunnah), and the example of the one who disobeys me and disbelieves the Truth I have brought”. [Sahih Al-Bukhari. 7283]

Thus, should the ideologues refer to ‘Fundamentalism’ in a manner that aligns with authentic path based on the Qur’ans Sunnah as understood and implemented by the Prophet’s companions, it is indeed commendable. However, if their intention is to denote those who promote violence, then such actions are reminiscent of the kharijites—those who deviate from true teachings, akin to the terrorists and innovators represented by groups like ISIS, Al-Qa’idah, Jabhat An-Nusra, and their counterparts. The principles of sound Islamic methodology shine with the clarity of the midday sun. Those who assert adherence to this methodology, regardless of their stature, are meticulously examined by senior Salafi scholars and their distinguished students. Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali, may Allah preserve him, said:

All of you hold onto the Rope of Allah [i.e. The Qur’an and authentic Sunnah]- Allah will aid you in this and make you like the sun; return to the understanding of the righteous predecessors, and it is, as I said to you, transmitted (and established) in your presence. This is a challenge to those who oppose this. We are challenging ahlul bidah wal ahwaa [the proponents of innovation in religious affairs and followers of desires] in their creed and politics. We say, between us and you is the (path, understanding of the) pious predecessors and books (of the pious predecessors). Ahmad [i.e. Imam Ahmad] used to say to the proponents of innovation in religious affairs, “Between us and you are the funerals (i.e. whose funeral will be attended by ahlus sunnah in great numbers)”. We say (i.e. at present), “Between us and you are the books (of the pious predecessors)- the books are present!

Allah said to His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him:

قل فَأْتُوا بِالتَّوْرَاةِ فَاتْلُوهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

All food was lawful to the Children of Israel, except what Israel made unlawful for himself before the Taurat (Torah) was revealed. Say (O Muhammad ): “Bring here the Taurat (Torah) and recite it, if you are truthful.

So they bring the Torah and you proof them to be upon falsehood. We bring the books of the pious predecessors – the Qur’an, the Sunnah, the books of Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasaa’ee, and what was authored by Ahmad and others; we bring them (to prove) those who are on the path of these (pious predecessors) and those who turn away and oppose them. Just as Allaah challenged the Jews to bring the Torah, so the Torah was brought and they were exposed them, (likewise), we challenge these people to bring the books of the pious predecessors, so that the innovator in religious affairs is exposed, and to clarify who the deviants are- whether us or them? Are they able to challenge? Can they open their mouths like this? We fill our mouths with courage – challenge everyone who says that we are upon other than methodology of the pious predecessors. We, by Allaah, call to the methodology of the pious predecessors- to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him. We use the book of Allah and the Sunnah as proof for our beliefs, our acts of worship, dealings with rulers and their subjects, in dealing with the groups and sects. As for the others, they are upon tricks, deception etc By Allaah, you will not find with them anything but tricks and manipulating the emotions of youth”. [6]

With this, we are not easily manipulated through the convient utilisation of any term by the media, the ideologues, demogogues and rabble-rousers.

Neither Rights Granted Nor Stolen Property Returned Since 1948 – Brief dialogue with Mathilda Heller

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah; even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. [An-Nisaa. 135]

In this article, we will provide brief responses on the remarks made by Mathilda and others concerning the acknowledgment of a Palestinian state.

Mathilda stated: Reward for Hamas terror’: British Jewish groups slam Starmer’s Palestinian state plan. [end of quote]

Response: Hamas was founded in 1987, while Palestinians have had the right to a state since 1948. This means there was a gap of 39 years between this right and the formation of Hamas. Since Hamas took political control in 2006, Palestinians continue to be entitled to a state. Thus, there has been a span of 19 years from Hamas’s rise to power to the ongoing entitlement of a Palestinian state. When we combine 39 and 19, we arrive at 58. Furthermore, Palestinians have historical claims to the land dating back to the Ottoman Empire and even earlier. However, during the time of our fathers and continuing to the present, a Palestinian state has been overdue since 1948, when Zionists at the time were backed by certain colonialists. Additionally, some Zionists preferred Hamas over the Palestinian authority when it aligns with their interests. Therefore, a Palestinian state is not merely a privilege; it is an undeniable right, as clear as the midday sun. The settlers and the invaders hold no legitimate claim to Palestine, having only taken what they possess through unlawful means and brutal violence, and they continue to uphold their ill-gotten gains through further acts of aggression. Both Muslim and non-Muslim countries continue to demand a return to the 1967 borders, but successive Zionist regimes have continued stealing more land. As for Hamas, the situation is quite clear. The Promised Land: A Brief Examination from a Religious and Historical Perspective

Mathilda stated: British Jewish groups criticize Starmer’s push for Palestinian state recognition, arguing it emboldens extremism and rewards Hamas terror, especially while hostages remain in captivity. [end of quote]

Response: Restoring rights and stolen property to its rightful owner is the morally correct action, even if that owner has wronged you; such grievances do not excuse the act of theft and continued aggression in the name of self-defense. A Palestinian state rightfully belongs to the Palestinians, not to Hamas. The individuals expressing grievances are merely deluded and possess an inflated sense of entitlement. No one has been more audacious and emboldened in perpetrating heinous acts than Netanyahu’s security forces, who have engaged in acts of terrorism since 2023. In addition to the recent acts of genocide, one should examine some of the massacres committed by the Zionist security forces since 1948:

The Deir Yassin Massacre: Took place on April 9, 1948, near Jerusalem, during which between 107 to 254 Palestinians were massacred at the hands of the extremist “Stern” gang.

The Nasr al-Din Massacre: Took place in April 1948. Al-Lajjun Massacre: Took place on April 13, 1948, in a Palestinian Arab village in the Jenin District, where the Zionist Haganah gang attacked it and killed 13 people.

The Saliha Massacre: Took place in May 1948, during which 75 Palestinians were massacred.

The Abu Shusha Massacre: Took place on May 14, 1948, near the village of Deir Yassin, and claimed the lives of (50) citizens, including women, men, children, and the elderly.

The Beit Daras Massacre: Took place in northeastern Gaza on May 21, 1948.

The Tantura Massacre: Took place on May 22, 1948, in the occupied city of Haifa, and claimed the lives of about (200) Palestinians.

The Lydda Massacre: Took place on July 12, 1948, in the occupied city of Lydda, and resulted in the massacre of about (500) Palestinians, including (150) who were massacred inside the city’s Grand Mosque. The Zionists threw many of them alive into the town’s wells.

The Dawayima Massacre: Took place on October 29, 1948, when a battalion from the terrorist “Lehi” organization led by Moshe Dayan attacked the village and then began searching homes and shooting at its residents. Entire families were exterminated in the massacre, which resulted in the killing of 200 men, women, and children.

The Zionist massacres did not stop after the Nakba of 1948, but rather their frequency, intensity, and brutality increased in light of the use of more lethal and destructive weapons. Among the most prominent of these massacres were: The Sharafat Massacre, which took place in February 1951, in which 11 Palestinians were massacred, and the rest of the village’s people were displaced. The Bethlehem Massacre took place in January 1952, in which 10 Palestinians were massacred. The Qibya Massacre took place on October 14, 1953, in the village of Qibya, east of Jerusalem, during which (67) Palestinians were massacred, most of whom were women and children, and during which 56 homes were destroyed. The Qalqilya Massacre took place on October 10, 1956, when the occupation forces attacked citizens in the city of Qalqilya in the West Bank, during which about seventy citizens were massacred.

The Kafr Qasem Massacre took place on October 29, 1956, in which 49 Palestinians were massacred, including 11 children, when they were all returning home from work. The Khan Yunis Massacre took place on November 3 and 12, 1956, in which between 280 and 500 Palestinians were massacred.

In 1970, Zionist aircraft struck Bahr al-Baqar Primary School and Abu Zaabal factories, killing more than 150 Egyptian students and workers. In 1980, the extremist Jewish organization Kach attempted to blow up Al-Aqsa Mosque, and a shipment of explosives weighing 120 kg was discovered. The Sabra and Shatila massacre took place in September 1982. This massacre lasted three days, and its direct perpetrators were members of the Lebanese Phalange forces allied with the Zionists led by Ariel Sharon. The Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre took place on February 25, 1994, when a Zionist named “Barog Goldstein” stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, and fired bullets and bombs at the worshipers. This massacre resulted in the massacre of 29 Palestinians. The Qana Massacre took place on April 18, 1995. [Compiled from various old Arab Newspapers]

Mathilda stated: British Jewish groups expressed deep concern on Monday night that Keir Starmer’s proposition of a Palestinian state would be a reward for terrorism. Earlier in the evening, the British prime minister announced that the UK would recognize a Palestinian state should Israel not agree to a Gaza ceasefire by September. [end of quote]

Response: British Muslims, along with all Muslims, voiced profound concern on Monday night regarding the lack of a Palestinian State, a situation that, if unresolved, would serve as a reward for the theft and brutality perpetrated by the terrorist Netanyahu and all those similar to him since 1948. The failure to establish a Palestinian state would amount to a reward for the impunity, chronic entitlement, and thuggery exhibited by Netanyahu and his Zionist gang.

Mathilda stated: The Board of Deputies of British Jews announced it was seeking urgent clarification from the British government that it will not recognize a Palestinian state if the hostages are not returned or if Hamas continues to reject a ceasefire. [end of quote]

Response: The acknowledgment of a Palestinian state has consistently been a fundamental right, both before and after the events of October 7th. It is imperative that Jewish hostages are released, alongside those who have been unjustly imprisoned by successive Zionist regimes for many years. The answer lies in halting the killing under the guise of self-defense, reverting to the borders established in 1967, ceasing the appropriation of land, and relinquishing the delusion that this land was divinely promised to you. This is what Muslim rulers have been demanding from you on the political scene. While Hamas must indeed liberate hostages and stop being idiots, both parties must also put an end to the violence, as as Prince Turki Al-Faisal stated: “There are no heroes in this war”. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3-cWyFcK5w

Mathilda stated: We must neither forsake the hostages nor reward Hamas terror or intransigence. [end of quote]

Response: We must not abandon the hostages held in Zionist prisons, nor neglect the plight of the Gazans, nor reward the intransigence of Zionist terror. Instead, just as we must denounce Hamas for its harm to non-combatants, we also condemn the Zionists for their acts of genocide. Prince Turki Al-Faisal has rebuked both Hamas and Netanyahu’s regime. Listen here again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3-cWyFcK5w

Mathilda stated: Campaign Against Antisemitism called Starmer’s declaration “morally indefensible.” [end of quote]

Response: This intertwines truth with falsehood. Antisemitism must be confronted just as we must also condemn the brutality of Zionism and condemn the actions of Hamas against non-combatants and unarmed civilians. Nevertheless, opposing the declaration of a Palestinian state is not merely a moral catastrophe; it also reflects a deeply concerning and destructive sense of entitlement. Read about antisemitism:

https://abuiyaad.com/sn/muslims-antisemitism
https://abuiyaad.com/w/antisemitism-ernest-renan
https://abuiyaad.com/a/muhammad-semitic-prophet

Mathilda stated: There are still hostages held in torturous conditions in Hamas dungeons in Gaza. Keir Starmer should be saying that he will take the issue of Palestinian statehood off the table if the hostages are not returned by September or sooner.” [end of quote]

Response: There remain individuals incarcerated without trial in Zionist prisons, a brutal reality that has persisted for decades, even prior to our birth, and now as we find ourselves in our 50s. How many years of suffering have the Palestinians endured? Indeed, the captives in both Zionist and Hamas facilities ought to be freed, yet this issue is unrelated to the establishment of a Palestinian state, as the land was originally taken from its rightful owners and must be returned. Prince Turki Al-Faisal’s reprimand is relevant again. Listen here:

Mathilda said: A reward for violence: CAA added that the statement sends “the worst message possible: that mass murder, rape, and hostage-taking are legitimate paths to diplomatic gain.” It argued that this constitutes a form of appeasement, something which will “embolden extremists,” who will choose to hang on for another month “to receive their reward.” “Recognition of a Palestinian state should never be wielded as a political weapon. Doing so in the aftermath of an antisemitic pogrom is not only reckless, it is shameful.” Progressive Judaism released a statement saying it remains firmly committed to a just and peaceful two state solution but that a Palestinian state “must not be a reward for violence.” While it welcomed Starmer’s demands on Hamas, it expressed concern that recognition may embolden “those who reject peace.” “We call on the UK government to ensure that this step strengthens the forces of peace, not extremism, and creates real leverage for a negotiated outcome”. [end of quote]

Response: For how many years have Palestinians been murdered?! If evidence emerges concerning acts of rape committed by Hamas or anyone else, it must be denounced in the most vehement manner without delay, but everyone knows what have the IDF and their predecessors have been doing. How many years have successive Zionist regimes been appeased to relinquish stolen land and cease the killings? This is what has emboldened them since 1948, and they continue to await accolades for their theft. They have not merely been holding on, but rather invading, slaughtering, and plundering since 1948. Acknowledging a Palestinian state is not a political tool but a fundamental right, both before and after 1948, and failing to grant it in the wake of a genocide is not merely reckless; it is disgraceful, heartless, cruel, and barbaric. Prince Turki Al Faisal’s reprimand is relevant here again- against both Netanyahu and Hamas.

[13] Notification to Ahlul Bidah and The Mumayyi’ah: These Clarifications Are Coming Back!

  • In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Whoever realises what the innovators have abandoned of the Sunnah and left behind and he clings to it, he is a person of the Sunnah and the Jamaa’ah. He should be followed, helped and protected.  He is one of those whom the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, bequeathed that he should be looked after.

Al-Allamah Salih al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, commented saying:

That is “They are those upon that which I (the Prophet) and my Companions are upon today”.  He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, advised (by way of command) that one should be with them – this Jamaa’ah, these people, this group- upon that which the Messenger and his Companions were upon. However, this requires two matters:

The First Matter: Knowledge, we learn what the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his Companions were upon. As for the ignorant one, he does not learn, while thinking that what the one in opposition is upon is what the Messenger was upon.

The Second Matter: To be firm upon what the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his Companions were upon because the one who follows the Sunnah will receive grief, trouble and intimidation from the people, but he must exercise patience and not turn away from the truth. He does not bargain [the truth] nor abandon anything of it. And due to this, it has been reported (in a hadith) regarding the one who adheres to upon his religion at the end of time is like one holding a burning coal or prickles due to what he will receive of hardship, grief and trouble from the people. So he requires patience.[1]

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

May Allah have mercy upon you! Know that if the people were to desist from newly introduced matters, not entering into any of them at all and did not say anything for which there was no narration from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, or from his Companions, there would not be any innovation.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, commented:

If they desisted and did not enter into them, restricted themselves to the Sunnah and did not abandon it for Bidah, certainly they would have received safety.  But whoever relinquishes the Sunnah and innovate statements that have no proof in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, he will eventually be with the innovators and the deviated sects.  And there is no safety except through the Sunnah which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, left for us. He said: “Indeed, I have left amongst you two things, if you hold firmly to them, you will never go astray; the book of Allah and my Sunnah”.

And in another hadith: “I have left you upon white plain (i.e. clear guidance), its night is like its day, and none deviates from it except he who is destroyed”.

This is the path to safety: the Sunnah of the Messenger and that which his companions were upon…. [2]

[12] Notification to Ahlul Bidah and The Mumayyi’ah: These Clarifications Are Coming Back!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Know that leaving the correct path occurs in two ways. Firstly, a man strays from the correct path intending nothing but good, so his error is not to be followed since it leads to destruction. Secondly, a man who deliberately opposes the truth and acts contrary to the Pious ones who came before him, is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil within the Ummah. It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him], commented:

The first man leaves the (correct path) without the intending (to do so), rather he intended good, but followed other than the path of good. Striving (alone) is not sufficient, and even if the person has a righteous intention and a good aim, that has be (based) upon the correct path. Thus, this (person) is considered mistaken and whoever agrees with him and follows his error will be destroyed, because this is a path of destruction – even though the (person) did not intend to leave (the correct path); rather his quest was (to reach something) good. This is the state of many who initiate newly invented matters in the knowledge of creed. This is not permissible, and they should not adhere to it. The person is not upon correctness. Allah,  The Mighty and Majestic, said:

 وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ

And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path]. [Al-An’am. 153]

Therefore, we reject any path that exits us from the Straight Path even if the one who (calls) to it aims for good and has a good intention. We do not follow him in that while he continues upon his error, eventually leading to destruction, because whoever abandons the correct path in his journey and takes a path of ruin will be destroyed.

As for the second person, it is the one who intends to leave (the correct path). He knows the truth and that what he embarks upon is falsehood, but he intends to leave the truth with the intention of misguiding the people. So, the intention of the first (person) is to bring about benefit for the people, but he did not follow the correct path. The second (person) intended to misguide the people and turn them away from the correct path. Therefore, this one is a devil because the devils take the people away from the Straight Path. (Allah informs us that) Iblees said:

لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Surely, I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path]. [7:16]

He intends to turn them away from it towards the deviated paths. The Prophet,  peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave us an example when he drew a straight line and drew other lines on its sides, he then said about the straight line, “This is the path of Allah” and he said about the other lines, “These are the other paths, and on each path is a devil calling to it”. This is a clear example that agrees with what the Shaikh (i.e. Imam Al-Barbahaaree) has stated here. Therefore, the one who takes the people away from the Straight Path (and directs them) to the innovated paths of the innovators (in religious matters) is not one who intends good for them; rather he intends destruction for them. He is a devil – a devil amongst the Jinn or the people. It is obligated to us to be more careful of this (second person) than the first one because this one (i.e. the second) intends to misguide the people.

“He is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil”.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzaan stated:

He is misguided and misguiding others- a rebellious devil, a rebel intending to turn the people away from the Straight Path.

“It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed”.

Al-Allamah Saalih Al-Fawzan commented:

It is not permissible to keep quiet about this one who abandons the truth intentionally; rather it is obligatory to unveil his affair and uncover his vileness until the people are warned about him. It is not to be said that the people are free to hold views, freedom of speech and respecting the views of others, as said at present with regards to respecting the views of others. The matter is not about views, (rather), the matter is about Ittibaa. Allah has outlined a clear path for us, and He told us to adhere to it, when He stated:

وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوه

And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it’ [6:153]

If any person comes to us and wants us to leave this straight path, firstly we reject his statement. Secondly, we clarify and warn the people against him and we do not keep quiet about him; because if we keep quiet about him, the people will be deceived by him, especially if he is an eloquent person with (skillful) writing and education, because the people will be deceived by him and will say, “This one is competent, this one is from the thinkers” as is taking place today. Therefore, the matter is very dangerous. And with regards to this, is a (justification) to refute the one in opposition, as opposed to what those who say, “Abandon the refutations, leave the people, everyone has his views and have respect for him”. Through this (so-called) respect for the views and freedom of speech, the Ummah will be destroyed. The Salaf did not keep quiet about the likes of these people; rather they exposed and refuted them due to their knowledge of the danger upon Ummah. We do not keep quiet about their evil; rather what Allah has revealed must be clarified, otherwise, we will be from those who conceal the truth- those about whom Allah said:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ

Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers] [2:159]

The matter is not limited to the innovator, rather it is extended to the one who keeps quiet about him (i.e. the one who deliberately keeps quiet while being aware about him). Rebuke and punishment (i.e. warning) are extended to him because it is obligatory to clarify.

An Unwinnable Battle

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

An Unwinnable Battle For Those Spending and Wasting Millions to Find a Cure for Aging

Allah, The Most High, said:

And Allah has created you and then He will cause you to die, and of you there are some who are sent back to senility, so that they know nothing after having known (much). Truly! Allah is All-Knowing, All-Powerful]. [Al-Nahl. 70]

Allah said:

He, it is Who has created you (Adam) from dust, then from a Nutfah [mixed semen drops of male and female discharge (i.e. Adam’s offspring)] then from a clot (a piece of coagulated blood), then brings you forth as children, then (makes you grow) to reach the age of full strength, and afterwards to be old (men and women), though some among you die before, and that you reach an appointed term, in order that you may understand. [Surah Ghafir. Verse 67]

Usamah Ibn Shareek, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that a bedouin said, “O Messenger of Allah! Shall we not seek treatment?” The Prophet said, “Yes, O servants of Allah, seek treatment. Verily, Allah did not place a disease but that he also placed its treatment or cure, except for one ailment” They said, “O Messenger of Allah! What is it?” The Prophet said, “Old age”. [Sunan Tirmidhee 2038]

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, referred to old age as a disease – the weakness of old age; but not one of the diseases that are transient ailments due to the different physical features and changing atmospheres; but rather, old age is likened to disease because it brings harm and diseases that may be followed by death. [1]

Indeed, fighting old age is a waste of time, rather one contemplates the following hadith and asks Allah to help us increase in the performance of righteous deeds. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death”. [Shu’ab al-Imaan 9767. Saheeh Al-Jaami 1077]

Allah said:

And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship and she brings him forth with hardship, and the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty (30) months, till when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he says: ‘’My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance, and truly, I am one of the Muslims [submitting to Your Will].

Imam Ash-Shawkaani, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

وفي هذه الآية دليل على أنه ينبغي لمن بلغ عمره أربعين سنة أن يستكثر من هذه الدعوات

And in this verse, there is evidence that indeed it is befitting for the one who has reached the age of forty to increase in making these supplications.

My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance, and truly, I am one of the Muslims (submitting to Your Will). [2]

A Supplication of The Morning:

We have reached the morning and at this very time unto Allah belongs all sovereignty, and all praise is belongs to Allah. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is able to do all things. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this day and the good of what follows it and I take refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I take refuge in You from laziness and senility. My Lord, I take refuge in You from torment in the Fire and punishment in the grave. [Saheeh Muslim]

O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity, etc) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of Iman, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others). [3]

[11] Notification to Ahlul Bidah and The Mumayyi’ah: These Clarifications Are Coming Back!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَلَا تَرۡكَنُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ فَتَمَسَّكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ

And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you]. [Hud: 113]

The word [ظلم –wrong] in can (mean) disbelief,  bidah, and [فسوق  i.e. sinful, immoral behaviour]. (It) can apply to all [i.e. in different contexts]. Therefore, we refrain from inclining towards the evil doers, the people of bidah, the unbelievers, the Ilmaaniyyoon and other than them. We protect ourselves, our creed, the Iman and the sound religion Allah has bestowed on us.

It is enough for us to remember that the Salaf fled from Fitan – not mixing, sitting and debating with the people of Fitan. Even among them, such as the likes of Ayyoub As-Sakhtiyaanee and Ibn Seereen did not listen to the speech of those (people of bidah). When Ibn Seereen was asked,  “Why do you not speak, why do you not listen to them?” He said, “Indeed, my heart is not in my hands! I am not in control of my heart; I fear for myself that I may be misguided”. So, the likes of these Imams feared fitna and deviation for themselves, but you the Miskeen possess that bravery to enable you to challenge ahlul bidah….!!! Many people say, “We sit with ahlul ahwaa and we take (from them), we distinguish between truth and falsehood, we take what is truth and abandon falsehood”, while he (i.e. the utterer of this speech) is a Miskeen who can neither distinguish between truth and falsehood nor is he in control of his heart. How many young peeople have been put to trial through this satanic view,  thus degraded, reverts back on his heels (into misguidanc) and depraved, and Allah’s Aid is sought. He falls prey in the arena of the people of fitan! Therefore, it is obligated to a student of knowledge not to (regard) himself safe from ahlul bidah, for indeed he is not more knowledgeable than Ayyoub and Ibn Seereen, nor can he reach their station and those who followed them.

[Slightly paraphrased excerpt from “Adh-Dhari’ah Ilaa Bayan Maqasid Kitab Ash-Shariah 1/192-193” by Al Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khal, may Allah have mercy upon him]

Some Ancient Vices Reborn in Our Time

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High. said:

قَوۡلٌ۬ مَّعۡرُوفٌ۬ وَمَغۡفِرَةٌ خَيۡرٌ۬ مِّن صَدَقَةٍ۬ يَتۡبَعُهَآ أَذً۬ى‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِىٌّ حَلِيمٌ۬

Kind words and forgiving of faults are better than Sadaqah (charity) followed by injury. And Allah is Rich (Free of all wants) and He is Most-Forbearing]. [Al-Baqarah. 263]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

Allah informed us that kind speech- which all hearts recognise and do not reject; and forgiveness- to pardon the one who treated you badly, are better than charity that is followed by harm. Kind speech is good treatment and charity through speech; and forgiveness is good treatment by way of refraining from retaliation and holding someone responsible. These are two types of good treatments. As for charity followed by harm, it is a good deed that is followed by its nullifier, and there is no doubt that two good deeds are better than a good dead that is nullified. This also includes the forgiveness shown by the person when he encounters some harm and harsh behaviour from the one who he could not fulfil his request; therefore, showing forgiveness to him would be better than giving him charity and then harming him. Speaking kindly to him, refraining (from retaliation) and forgiving him is better for you than giving him charity and then harming him.

Then Allah ended this verse with the mention of two of His Attributes which are suitable for mention in this affair, saying: [وَٱللَّهُ غَنِىٌّ حَلِيمٌ۬- and He is Most-Forbearing].

Indeed, Allah is not in need of you and nothing (from the benefits of) your charity reaches him, rather all the abundant good in this charity and its benefits returns to you and not to Allah. Therefore, how can one flaunt through his spending and causes harm while Allah is completely not in need of it and everything else besides it. In addition to this, Allah is forbearing because He does not hasten punishment against the one who flaunts. Allah is completely free from need in every way and He is the One described as One with forbearance, the one who overlooks and forgives, alongside the fact that He bestows His vast favours and ample gifts; then how can one of you harm another person by flaunting and offending, even though what you give is little, and you are weak and poor (in the sight of Allah). Then Allah said:

O you who believe! Do not render in vain your Sadaqah (charity) by reminders of your generosity or by injury, like him who spends his wealth to be seen of men, and he does not believe in Allah, nor in the Last Day. His likeness is the likeness of a smooth rock on which is a little dust; on it falls heavy rain which leaves it bare. They are not able to do anything with what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people. [Al-Baqarah 264]

This spender, whose spending has been nullified, is likened to a Safwaan – a rock with a smooth, flat, and slippery surface and with dust on it. Then heavy rain falls on it, washing away the dust and leaving it bare, devoid of any vegetation or growth. This is one of the finest and most profound parables because it draws a parallel between the heart of such a spender, who flaunts and his spending is devoid of belief in Allah and the Last Day, to the rock itself, symbolising hardness, rigidity, and lack of benefit. It demonstrates the impact of charity represented by the fine dust on the rock, and the heavy rain that washes it away, mirroring the nullification and removal of the spender’s charity. Consequently, the spender is unable to reap any rewards from his charity, as it has been nullified and removed.

Another perspective on this is that (even though) someone spends for something other than the sake of Allah, it may seem like they have performed a deed that will be rewarded. So, it seems as if it is made to grow like the grain that is sown in fertile soil and it grows seven ears, and each era has a hundred grains. However, hidden behind this spending there is something that prevents it from gaining anything, just like a rock hidden beneath the soil that stops seeds from sprouting and growing. [1] [end of quote]

Human kindness is universally recognised across nations, and caring for the less fortunate is a value upheld by all societies, even if it doesn’t always translate into real-world actions. However, the challenge of equitable wealth distribution, treating others fairly, and avoiding the exploitation of the vulnerable—whether among individuals or nations—remains critical. The pursuit of global dominance at the cost of fairness and integrity often results in conflict, wars and various forms of oppression.

Firstly, wars, for many, serve primarily as instruments of control over both human lives and financial assets. The Qur’an recounts the stories of ancient tyrants like the people of Aad, Thamud and Fir’awn, illustrating their extreme arrogance and disbelief as they flaunted their might.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Every sin is a legacy inherited from a nation that was destroyed by Allah Almighty. Taking more than one is entitled to is a legacy from the people of Shu’ayb, peace be upon him. The corruption and arrogance displayed on earth are inherited from the people of Pharaoh, and the pride and tyranny are legacies from the people of Prophet Hud, peace be upon him. Thus, the sinner is adorned in the garments of these nations, which are enemies of Allah. [2]

Some of our elders of our tribes and clans who had some military experience often emphasised that the dropping of the first two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a crucial turning point in the struggle for power and supremacy. This devastating event revealed the horrifying capacity for destruction that can annihilate lives and infrastructure, instilling a lasting fear among nations even to this day. Furthermore, it marked a transition towards conflicts that aim to circumvent direct engagement, instead employing threats and extreme violence as means to achieve absolute control and domination. Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi al-Mad’khali, may Allah safeguard him, illuminated this reality in his remarks regarding those who showed disrespect towards the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him:

The creation of bombs, destructive weapons, warplanes, tanks, and long-range missiles lies squarely on your shoulders. It is your twisted intellect that has brought forth these instruments of chaos, driven by a relentless desire for transgression, hostility, and domination. You seek to conquer entire populations, enslaving them, shedding their blood, and plundering their resources. Your sole focus is on eradicating those who dare to oppose your insatiable greed and your oppressive agenda, all while cloaking your actions in the guise of civilization, human rights, freedom, and justice.

It is well understood among discerning individuals that your past is marred by a series of uncivil and terrorist actions, a legacy that has been documented by both your adversaries and your supposed allies. Those who remain unaware of this troubling history should take the time to explore the accounts of your invasions of various nations, or at the very least, examine the devastating consequences of the two World Wars. To illustrate, the First World War alone claimed over 10 million lives in Europe, predominantly among the finest youth of those nations. Furthermore, more than double that number suffered severe injuries, leaving them permanently disabled. [Refer to: At-Taareekh al-Mu’aasir: Uruubbaa minath-Thawratil-Fransiyyah ilal-Harbil-‘Aalamiyyaith-Thaaniyah, p.505. (Lit: Recent History, Europe from the French Revolution to the Second World War)]

The Second World War resulted in a staggering loss of life, with approximately 17 million soldiers and an additional 18 million civilians perishing in just five and a half years. Financially, the military expenditures soared to an estimated $1.1 trillion, while the overall economic impact of the war is valued at around $2.1 trillion. This devastation extends beyond human casualties; entire cities were obliterated, vast areas of land were rendered uninhabitable, agricultural lands were inundated, and countless factories and farms ceased operations. The toll also includes the significant loss of livestock, compounding the tragedy of this global conflict. [(Al-Harb al-‘Aalamiyyah ath-Thaaniyah by Ramadhaan Land, p.448-449) (Lit: The Second World War)]

The Hiroshima Bomb:

The author of “al-Harb al-‘Aalamiyyah ath-Thaaniyah” (p.446-447) discusses the harrowing event of the first atomic bomb. In an interview with Marcel Junod, a Red Cross representative, a Japanese survivor recounted the terrifying moment of the explosion. He described how, out of nowhere, blinding, muddy pink lights erupted, accompanied by an unsettling tremor. This was swiftly followed by a suffocating surge of heat and fierce winds that devastated everything in their wake.

In mere seconds, countless individuals traversing the streets or gathered in the heart of the city faced a horrific fate, consumed by flames. Many succumbed to the overwhelming heat that radiated throughout the area. Others lay on the ground, writhing in agony from severe burns that covered their bodies. Everything at the epicenter of the disaster—walls, homes, factories, and other structures—was utterly obliterated, with remnants violently propelled into the sky in a terrifying whirlwind. Trams were uprooted from their steel tracks, tossed aside as if they were weightless. Trains, along with their tracks, were lifted effortlessly, resembling mere playthings. Animals, including horses, dogs, and livestock, suffered the same tragic fate as the people. Every living creature was snuffed out in a single, harrowing moment that defies description. Trees were consumed by fierce flames, rice fields turned to ash, and farms crackled and disintegrated like brittle straw.

The areas that narrowly escaped immediate devastation were left in ruins: homes lay in ruins, reduced to mere heaps of wooden debris scattered among the remnants of bricks and stone foundations. It was as if these structures had been made of cardboard, obliterated in a vast zone of destruction spanning 10 kilometers. Those who survived found themselves engulfed by fierce, raging fires. The few fortunate enough to reach any form of shelter in time faced agonizing deaths from gamma radiation within a mere 20 to 30 days. By nightfall on the day of the explosion, the inferno began to subside, eventually extinguishing itself as it ran out of fuel. Hiroshima had been reduced to nothingness. These are the very symbols of your civilization that you celebrate and boast about, while showing disdain towards Islam and its Prophet. Yet, you persist in amplifying every form of oppression and corruption, continuously creating more weapons of destruction and devastation. This, by Allah, represents the pinnacle of barbarism and inhumanity. Adorn yourselves with your own bombs, including the Hiroshima bomb and its counterparts, and let your leaders wear them as crowns. [end of quote] [3]

Similarly, our fathers often discussed the Cold War, highlighting how it illustrated the delicate balance of power between nuclear-armed countries. This equilibrium fostered a sense of mutual restraint, as all parties recognised that any military confrontation, especially involving nuclear weapons, would result in catastrophic destruction for everyone involved. They highlighted that these nations, despite their conflicts, shared a common civilizational heritage. However, this sense of restraint for the greater good did not apply to societies they deemed inferior, as such restraint would hinder the exploiters from taking advantage of the conflicts among weaker nations for their own gain.

Furthermore, some researchers have observed a profound transformation in conflicts since World War II, largely influenced by the effects of the industrial revolution in the West. That era marked a significant shift in the dynamics of power, particularly with the rise of machinery in the workforce, the supremacy of capital as a key economic driver, and the growing influence of media—especially print journalism, followed by visual and audio technologies, as well as information networks—that shape public opinion. As these elements of power gained prominence, they also deepened social patterns that were once novel and unfamiliar. The surge in machinery fueled a demand for luxury and comfort, fostering a culture centered around pleasure and hedonism. Sound beliefs and good behaviour ordained by the Creator waned. Moreover, the integration of women into the workforce and their emancipation from domestic roles led to increased social interaction, moral decline, and the fragmentation of the family unit, which is the cornerstone of society. As a result, the dominant ethics were largely dictated by machinery and market forces.

Despite the significant resources and technological progress achieved by some nations since the industrial revolution, it was crucial for them to also recognise the importance of weaker and poorer countries. These poorer nations are vital as they supply affordable raw materials and represent expansive consumer markets. Additionally, the challenges posed by these nations could not be overlooked by the more powerful countries. For example, historical events, such as the oil crises of 1973-1974 and 1979-1980, highlighted how the global landscape could threaten the economic, political, and social stability of wealthier nations if not addressed. However, even with considerable military strength, some of the more powerful nations have at times shown reluctance to sacrifice lives unless absolutely necessary for survival, reflecting a shift in societal values. Some researchers attributed this to decline in the sway of political and ideological movements in Western society after World War II, giving way to a more pragmatic approach, particularly in the United States.

In addition, a new phenomenon also emerged in the realm of conflict management, where each party seeks to pull the other into its own sphere of influence and expertise. The more dominant party often lure the other into this territory or traps them within it, reminiscent of the strategies used by drug dealers and traffickers. If they discover that their target lacks the necessary life circumstances to exploit, they initially offer free samples of drugs, followed by subsequent doses at a low price. This cycle continues until the individual becomes addicted and dependent on the substances, at which point they are manipulated into meeting demands and face coercion that leaves them with no option to refuse. As some authors have noted, this reflects a key aspect of unregulated capitalist economics, encapsulated in the adage: “Those who wield money as a weapon will always come out on top.”

Within these circumstances, there is a significant opportunity to shape how the public perceives various issues. Public opinion can be molded to not only embrace but also insist on the preferences of those in control of the narrative. This transformation hinges on influential media channels, which necessitate considerable financial backing. These platforms can effectively champion a particular economic framework and cultivate public readiness to embrace a new economic paradigm alongside modern social values. By promoting this economic model, they disseminate targeted cultural and ideological beliefs, ultimately eroding national, regional, or religious resistance to the acceptance of the new system. However, when a targeted nation or group resists the cultural agenda of a cultural crusader intent on seizing resources or asserting geopolitical power, the crusader often resorts to imposing economic sanctions that can escalate into partial or full economic blockades. This tactic is further supported by a range of political, diplomatic, and even sporting measures, all underpinned by a strategic media campaign designed to sway global public opinion in favour of these sanctions and actions. The ultimate goal of this alternative to outright warfare can be tailored according to the severity and type of sanctions imposed, leading to varying levels of disruption within the targeted society—ranging from mere annoyance to significant incapacitation or even total destruction—until compliance is secured and dominance is achieved. This strategy remains in play against some nations.

Furthermore, if the targeted country is self-sufficient, they may be forced to deal with international entities and organizations that align with nations possessing greater military power. This dynamic can trap them in a cycle where they cannot easily disengage or free themselves, rather than fostering genuine reciprocal and integrative relationships with others. In this scenario, various concepts can be advanced, including the freedom of international trade, open markets, unrestricted air travel, information networks, international transportation routes, electrical interconnectivity among nations, satellite-based communication systems, and collaborative industries. While these initiatives may offer immediate advantages to individuals and groups within the targeted society, without astute government oversight, the cultural influencer is likely to prevail. This is particularly true when backed by international organizations with substantial financial resources. Consequently, the privatisation of essential services and major corporations may gradually be introduced into the global supply and demand market, all while national capital is constrained during this process. In this regard, the influence of multinational corporations, multi-branch NGOs, environmental advocacy groups, human rights organizations, and the shared fabric of human culture cannot be overstated. As these entities build a solid foundation and become essential players, the influence of the state in economic and social affairs diminishes, allowing multinational companies and large NGOs to take center stage.

The aim is to establish a global channel, facilitating a form of governance that operates free from the constraints of state authority. This channel may serve as a convenient rationale for intervention, cloaked in the noble pursuit of safeguarding foreign investments, alongside an array of adaptable justifications such as the protection of minority groups, the promotion of human rights, [Footnote a] the advancement of democracy, the preservation of the environment, and concerns regarding the possession of weapons of mass destruction, international terrorism, and drug trafficking. Yet, it remains unspoken that these actions are undertaken in the name of maintaining the prosperity and welfare of the cultural advocate, despite the presence of some justifications that may hint at such motives, albeit insufficient to warrant intervention.

Food and other Essentials:

A nation that declines to engage in cooperation and resists the exploiter may find itself subjected to blockades and sanctions, potentially jeopardising its food supply, especially if reliant on imports. [Footnote b] The vitality of local food production stands at risk when seeds, fertilizers, or machinery are procured from foreign sources. This concern extends to the pharmaceutical sector, where industrial operations may face disruption if raw materials or equipment are imported, or if certain components are produced by the exploiter. For nations that depend on the export of raw, agricultural, or industrial goods for their economic sustenance, a halt in exports could drastically reduce their financial inflow. Moreover, should the government or, in particular instances, private individuals possess investments and assets abroad, the freezing of these holdings could render them inaccessible, even if only for a limited time. Such circumstances could profoundly impair the state’s operational capacity, potentially reversing societal advancements by decades or even centuries. Furthermore, the presence of open media and champions of cultural integrity is likely to stir public unrest over this situation, prompting fervent demands for reform.

In most cases, it is the dominant entity that reaps the advantages of prevailing circumstances, wielding the power to impose its ideologies upon others. This influential party, often represented by the strongest nation —typically the United States—sets the benchmarks that steer organisations and nations towards its own aspirations, all while selectively advancing its interests. With a military presence that can be swiftly mobilised across the world, it safeguards its prerogatives and vigilantly monitors any potential disruptions at the expense of the welfare of others. Moreover, it seeks to establish financial supremacy by positioning the dollar as the cornerstone of international currency. This entity excels in defining boundaries, whether through direct intervention or via institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, regional trade bodies, or continental military coalitions.

The so-called developing world is frequently seen as little more than a backdrop in the international landscape. While it can be leveraged for various purposes, it is often regarded as unfit to actively engage in the global arena. Rather than being a competitor, it is treated like a mere pawn. This reality becomes clear when we look at the stark economic inequalities among those vying for a place on the world stage. Multinational corporations, armed with significant financial resources, typically acquire smaller firms at bargain prices or emerge from the remnants of larger companies that have succumbed to competition, often relying on their subsidiaries. These corporations are the true contenders in the marketplace, capable of generating substantial profits. In addition, some stronger nations seek to obscure their influence in global matters by presenting themselves as supportive leaders who advocate charitable projects and arenas for development, however, they entrust the execution of various initiatives to specific organisations through international and regional gatherings, along with numerous global organisations like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Economic and Social Council, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Labour Organization, the World Health Organization, and UNESCO. Consequently, a wide range of human activities—ranging from individual births and their social contexts to issues of legitimacy, education, employment, legal frameworks, political and economic systems, and the media shaping public perception—have become focal points of international scrutiny or global media coverage. When possible, they will suppress alternative viewpoints and stifle dissenting voices without hesitation. The exploiter only gains the upperhand in the absence of authentic beliefs and Muslim identity as outlined in the Qur’an and Sunnah, as interpreted by the Sahaabah. Nevertheless, economic warfare, rather than traditional military conflict, can serve as a more effective strategy, often accompanied by various initiatives aimed at controlling the population and influencing the targeted community.

Destabilising Some of The Crucial Foundations For Social Unity

In Muslim societies, the family is viewed as one of the crucial foundations for social unity and resilience. Consequently, there is a concerted effort to weaken this essential structure in some countries by undermining the distinctive and vital roles of women in childbirth and child-rearing. Shaikh Abu Iyaad, may Allah preserve him, remarked:

“We are living in a time in which the League of Iblees have a frightening grip and amazing amount of resources and means through which waves and waves of assaults are maintained against faith (eemaan), and against tawhid (monotheism), and against the morality that is based upon revelation (as opposed to the “do what thou wilt” of secular humanism), and against the family unit and its bonds (husband-wife, child-parent). And so it is necessary for the Muslims to beware and take extreme caution against the waves upon waves of such assaults that are being made from all directions, the aim of which is to desecrate the foundations of faith, and to desecrate the Prophets of Allah, in particular Jesus, the Son of Mary (peace be upon them both) and to replace the foundations of faith with a “new age spirituality” which is nothing “new” at all, but comes from none other than Iblees himself and is but the same deception that Iblees used to make Adam err, which is the promise of immortality and eternity, and this is the core, underlying principle of the “new age spirituality” in all of its flavours and manifestations. Further, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) warned that there would be many dajjaals (liars) in the later times. Such liars and imposters claim divinity or prophethood, and preach a religion other than that preached by the Prophets and Messengers, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohammad (peace be upon all of them). For this reason, given the huge amount of propaganda disseminated through the great many forms of media in the modern age, it is necessary for Muslims to be well-informed about the plots of Iblees his deception and misguiding of the people through their army of devils amongst Jinn and men, all of whom refer to Iblees, spuriously, as “the light bearer”. [4]

Nonetheless, it is not solely the West that has participated in such injustices; rather, one can observe that, apart from the Prophets and their upright followers, throughout various eras or particular periods, prevailing civilisations have perpetrated atrocities against others. Therefore, while this article focuses on certain events, it does not imply that the oppression and exploitation by a particular generation in the West is unparalleled or that other instances are disregarded. What matters is that every assertion concerning other groups must be examined with integrity, and the facts must be verified. The one interested in history will find plenty of resources regarding oppression throughout human history.

[10] Notification to Ahlul Bidah and The Mumayyi’ah: These Clarifications Are Coming Back!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Sufyan Ath-Thawree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Whoever lends an ear to a person of Bidah has left the protection of Allah and is entrusted to it”. (i.e. the bidah)

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

The narration about fleeing from ahlul bidah and not to sit with them, nor to accompany them has preceded, therefore, whoever accompanies them and listens to their statements and does not reject them, will be destroyed alongside them. It is not permissible for you to lend an ear to them while saying, “I am a believer with strong Iman and I am well acquainted with the Aqeedah, and they cannot have an effect on me”. This is self-deception – trial for the people, because being distant and not listening to their false statements is safety. As for lending your ear to them, you will become worthy of being put to trial alongside them.

And regarding Sufyan’s statement: “And is entrusted to it”.

Al-Allamah Salih Al Fawzan commented:

(This is) because Allah safeguards the one who seeks safety from Him, while the one who listens to bidah is worthy of being put to trial through it. He is entrusted to it and is removed from the Protection of Allah. [Source: It’haaf Al-Qaaree. 2/316-317]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Sufyan Ath-Thawree is one of the Imams of the Sunnah and illustrious figures of guidance. He may have derived this speech from the Messenger’s warning against sitting with evil people that would inevitably cause harm and lead to dangerous consequences. Whoever opposes the Messenger’s warning has exposed himself to evil and is entrusted to himself. It is said to the one who lends an ear to ahlul bidah, “Do not do this because indeed the Messenger forbade and warned you; the pious predecessors forbade and warned you about sitting with ahlul bidah and acquiring (knowledge) from them”.

So, once you say, “By Allah! I read, I listen, take truth and abandon falsehood”, similar to the well known principle at present though which many youth – who were following the path of the pious predecessors- have been made into a laughing stock; they came to them with this vile – corrupt – principle, saying, “Read from the books of Ikhwaan (1), the books of Tableegh (2), the books of ahlul bidah, Sufism (3) and the Rawaafid (4), accept the truth (from them) and abandon the falsehood. He (i.e. the one who reads etc) is a Miskeen (poor in his knowledge, resolve etc) – neither knows truth nor can distinguish between it and falsehood, thus, he approaches falsehood, considers it to be truth and accepts it; approaches truth, considers it to be falsehood and rejects it, and strays. Allah entrusts this person to himself, because had he adhered firmly to the Sunnah, listen to the Messenger’s guidance, the stance of the Messenger’s companions and the pious predecessors, preserves the good he has – meaning the Sunnah, he would have been saved; but he became deceived so Allah entrusts him to himself due to this self-deception and self-importance which some people embark upon. He depends on himself and considers himself a leader in knowledge, while he is an ignoramus, thus, he falls into the traps of people of misguidance- quickly deviates and become one of the people of misguidance because Allah forsakes and entrust him to himself.

And due to this, we say: the one who is not safe from falling into the traps of the people of misguidance, it is obligated to him to avoid the books of the people of bidah and (avoid) sitting with them, because indeed the Messenger warned against sitting with them and the pious predecessors warned against sitting with them, rather they held a consensus to boycott and ostracise them – not to expose oneself to them and their call, except the one who is well established in knowledge, the one with ability to establish the proof against them while being cautious, warning against sitting with them and not to incline towards them.

As for the weak – the Miskeen – who is shaken by the light wind and it makes him fall (i.e. the one who cannot repel the doubts of ahlul bidah), it is obligated to him to preserve the good that Allah has bestowed on him, because nothing can be equal to safety.

The one who has the ability and experience – able to call to the path of Allah with wisdom and persuade the people of falsehood, he embarks upon calling them, while not being in agreement with them, not sitting with them and flattering them; but rather he should be a Mujahid, a caller to the path of Allah, a sincere adviser, enjoining good and forbidding evil. This is one who embarks upon calling the people of falsehood (to truth) and clarifies the truth to them, then (if) one is guided, alhamdulil laah; but if not, he has established the proofs which Allah has obligated to the inheritors of the Prophets (i.e. the scholars) to establish.

The Prophets were callers to the path of Allah, they invited the unbelievers to (the truth) and called the sinners (to the truth), and you are one of the inheritors of the Prophets, therefore, call these (people) and establish the proofs against them, but we do not say that this task is for everyone – that every Tom, Dick, and Harry intermingles with ahlul bidah and advise them; rather we say that this is for the people of knowledge, those well established in knowledge, the strong ones. As for those other than them – the ignoramuses and the ones with weak personalities, we warn and tell them to be on guard against the outcomes that descend on the one who is deceived by himself, thus, he becomes one from ahlul bidah and misguidance. By Allah we know people from different Arab and Islamic countries who used to be upon good, then they were captured by this trick- meaning, read, read, take the truth and reject falsehood, and was not seen thereafter except that he was from the villains of ahlul bidah, waging war against ahlus sunnah, defending the people of falsehood. We ask Allaah for wellbeing. [Source: Awn Al-Baaree Bi-Bayaan Maa Tadammanahu Sharhus Sunnah Lil-Imaam Al-Barbahaaree. 2/ 970-972. slightly paraphrased]

Al-Fudayl Ibn Iyaad, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Whoever sits with a person of bidah has not be granted wisdom”.

Al-Allamah Rabee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The one who sits with ahlul bidah and incline towards them, there is no doubt that he is dim-witted and on the opposite side of wisdom. Sitting with ahlul bidah is dangerous, and we have mentioned to you several times the hadeeth: “The parable of good company and a bad company is only that of a seller of musk and a blacksmith”. (5) This is an urge (by way of a command) from the Messenger that one sits (with) the righteous – those who are free from misguidance and bidah, those who call to good, command good and forbid evil – warn against falsehood. These are ones to be accompanied, you will benefit from them in matters of sound creed, sound methodology, authentic narrations and (acquire) abundant good. As for ahlul bidah -and Allah’s Refuge is sought, you will find corrupt creed with them, fabricated narrations, baseless narratives and other calamities, which is the reason behind the deviation of many of those people who oppose the (sound Salafi Methodology).

By Allah, it is not appropriate for some scholars to sit with the people of desires because it may be that he has some knowledge, but shaky and weak in personality, thus, he strays through falsehood. By Allah, there is an example of this in history about a people who diverted from the truth (in some matters) even though they had knowledge. Among them was Al-Bayhaqi who was affected by Ash’ariyyah (6) and Abdur Razzaaq who was affected by at-Tashayyu (7)…many among them; rather many of those who were swept away by bidah, the reason was nothing else other than reading the books of ahlul bidah and sitting with the people of misguidance, thus many people in the Islamic societies deviated due to this intermingling, sittings, reading and what is similar to that.

When Ahlus Sunnah listened to their scholars, Allah protected them from being swept away by ahlul bidah, but when the scholars or some of the scholars fell short (or failed to act as required), authority lost, and the people became deceived by people of bidah and misguidance, the Islamic world was swept away by bidah. In the last century, ilhaad, Zandaqah, (8) communism, Baathism and secularism appeared, the people intermingled and strayed. The who intermingled with the heretics became a heretic, the one who intermingled with the callers to socialism became a socialist, the one who intermingled with the baathists became baathist, the one who intermingled with the Rawafid became Rafidi (9), the one who intermingled with the Soofiyyah became a Sufi, the who intermingled with the groups of illegal partisanship became an adherent to illegal partisanship (10) and so on. Had they held onto the likes of this Prophetic and Salafi guidance, Allah would have protected them, but they embarked upon error, so Allah entrusted them to themselves. [Awn Al-Baaree 2/ 2974-975]

Al-Allamah Salih al Fawzaan, May Allah preserve him, stated:

It is forbidden to visit the Mubtadi [an innovator in religious matters] and to sit with him, unless it is for the (purpose) of advice and rejection of what he is upon. This is because keeping his company has an evil effect and leads to spreading his enmity (i.e. his misguidance) to others. It is obligatory to warn against them and their evil if it becomes impossible to prevent them from practicing bidah. And if not, it is obligated to the scholars of the Muslims and those in charge of the affairs of the Muslims to prevent and restrain the Mubtadi’ah from their evil. This is because the danger they pose to Islam is great. It must be known that the nations of disbelief encourage the Mubtadi’ah to spread their bidah and aid them upon that to create divergent paths (i.e. disunite the word of the Muslims and create sects that are in opposition to the singular path of the pious predecessors in creed and Methodology). In this is termination of Islam and distortion of its image. And Allah knows best. We ask Allah to aid His Religion and make His Word Uppermost, and forsake the enemies. 7: Tashayyu: Listen here – By Al-Allamah Muqbil Bin Hadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, regarding why Imam Abdur Razzaaq, may Allah have mercy upon him, was affected by something Tashayyu:

8: ilhaad: ilhaad: “Complete ilhaad” is to turn away from Islam completely and that is Major ilhaad, which exits a person from the fold of Islam, such as the ilhaad committed by communists, the idol worshippers and those similar to them. And Minor ilhaad does not exit a person from the Religion of Islam, such as turning away from some actions. Allah (The Most High) said:

 وَمَن يُرِدْ فِيهِ بِإِلْحَادٍ بِظُلْمٍ نُذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

And whoever inclines to evil actions therein or to do wrong, him We shall cause to taste a painful torment. Imam Al-Awzaa’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

O Muslims! Fear Allah, accept the advice of the sincere advisers and the admonition of the admonishers. know that this knowledge is religion, so beware of what you do, from whom you take your religion, the one you follow, and the one with whom your religion is safe, because indeed all the proponents of religious innovation are falsifiers, liars, and sinners. They are not cautious – neither do they pay attention nor do they fear, and together with that they are not to be trusted that they would not distort what you hear.

They say what they do not know with regards to what they disapprove and when proclaiming their lies; but Allah (knows, hears, and sees) what they do. Therefore, be cautious of them, trust them not, reject them, and avoid them because this is what your earlier scholars did and commanded, and likewise the righteous ones who came thereafter.

Be careful of opposing Allah and being the means to destroying the religion He has ordained – breaking its commands and prohibitions, nullifying and weakening it by respecting the innovators in religious matters and those who initiate that which is not from the religion, because you know what has been transmitted (i.e. the prohibitions) about respecting or exalting them. What can be greater respect and exaltation than acquiring your religion from them- following and believing them, drawing close to them, and assisting them in enticing the ones they entice and wooing to their views and the religion (i.e. religious innovations) they follow? This is sufficient to be regarded as associates of theirs in what they do.

[8] Notification to Ahlul Bidah and The Mumayyi’ah: These Clarifications Are Coming Back!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

”If you see a man speaking well of Ibn Abee Du’aad, Al-Mareesee, Thumaamah, Abul Hudhail or Hishaam Al-Footee or any of their adherents, beware of him because he is an innovator.  These people were upon apostasy, so leave this man who spoke well of them and whomever he mentioned of them.”

“If you see a man speaking well of Ibn Abee Du’aad, Al-Mareesee, Thumaamah, Abul Hudhail or Hishaam Al-Footee….”

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

If you see a man commending the people of evil and the scholars of misguidance, such as these off shoots of the Jahmiyyah, then know that he is a sinful one, a corrupter and a misguided one. [This  is] because he does not praise them except that he loves them and approves of their path. And if you see a man commending Ahlus Sunnah, such as the likes of Imam Ahmad and Ibn Al- Mubaarak, and likewise commending the Scholars of the Taabi’een and those who came after them, then know that he is a person of goodness. [This is] because he commends not Ahlus Sunnah except that he loves the Sunnah and adheres to it.

This teaches us a lesson in (view of the fact that) some of the brothers or some of the students of knowledge commend some of the innovators (in religion) or the people of desires and deviated views, while not examining their views and orientations.  They attack and find fault with the people of khayr [i.e. those known to be upon upright path] because they lend an ear to those who find fault with them and believe them.  This is a severe danger. If you find fault with the people of khayr – the people of knowledge and Ahlus Sunnah- and commend the people of deviated views and orientations, then this is a severe danger even if you do not sit with them.  Therefore, this is from that which we should be mindful of, which many people have fallen into at present.
