‘Seal Ramadhaan with Istighfaar’ by Ustaadh Abu Hakeem

Bismillahi Wal Hamdullillah Was Salaatu Was Salaamu ‘alaa Rasoolillahi

Ammaa Ba’d:

With this the final day of the blessed month of Ramadhaan, no doubt it grieves us to see it end with such quickness. And it the likes of this rapid movement of time that we witness that brings to mind the like of the statement of the Sahaabi Al Jaleel Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood – Radhiyallahu ‘Anhu who said:

“I have not grieved over anything the way I grieve over a day that the sun sets, my determined period shortens, and I have not increased in my actions“

But keep in mind constantly that the affairs are by ones final actions (as occurs in an authentic hadeeth), so let the end of this month of Ramadhaan be with Istighfaar (seeking forgiveness) from Allah and Taubah (repentance).  For certainly Istighfaar is the seal of righteous actions. Allah the most high said to his Messenger – Sallallahu alaihi was Salam at the end of his life:

“When comes the help of Allah and the conquest (of Makkah), And you see that the people enter Allah’s religion in crowds,Then glorify the praise of your lord (declare him free of imperfections) and seek his forgiveness. Verily he is the one who accepts the repentance and forgives.” (Suratun Nasr)

Allah the most high similarly commands the Hujaaj (Pilgrims) when they have finished their rites to make istighfaar “Then depart from the place whence all the people depart and ask Allah for his forgiveness. Truly Allah is Oft Forgiving Most Merciful“ (Suratul Baqarah Vs 199)

And the examples of this are many.  Likewise the Salaf of this Ummah would fear their actions being rejected after their performance, as Allah informs us:

“And those who give (in charity) that which they give, with their hearts full of fear (whether their charity has been accepted or not) because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning)” (Suratul Mu’minoon Vs 60)

Where are such feelings within us as this month comes to an end? As Ali – Radhiyallahu anhu mentioned: “Be as ardent upon your actions being accepted as you are upon the performance of the action, have you not heard the statement of Allah: “Indeed Allah accepts only from those who are muttaqoon (God-fearing)”
(Suratul Maa’idah Vs 27)

May Allah accept our Fast, our salaah and our righteous actions and grant us a blessed Eid Inshallah

Wa Sallallahu Alaa Nabiyinaa Muhammad Wa ‘Alaa Aalihi Was Sahbihi Ajma’een

Ask Allaah for a strong desire in the first and moderation in the second

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, (saying): Jareer related to us from Layth from Mujaahid from Ibn Abbaas, (that): ”There are two types of people with a strong desire and the strong desire of each one of them will not end—the one who has a strong desire in pursuit of knowledge, his desire will not end.  And the one who has a strong desire in pursuit of the worldly (things, affairs etc.), his desire will not end.”

Our Salaf: They hated being raised beyound what they believed was their rightful status

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, (saying): Jareer narrated to us from Al-a’mash from Mas’ood Ibn Maalik who said: ”Ali Ibnul Husain said to me, ”Are you able to make me meet with Saeed Ibn Jubayr?”  I said: ”What need do you have of him?”  He said: ”I want to ask him about some affairs.  Indeed, the people commend us for that which we do not possess.” ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Our Salaf: They never sought the attention of the people for recognition–Alqamah

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, (saying): Mu-aawiyyah Ibn Amr related to us, (saying): Zaa-idah related to us from Al-A’mash from Maalik Ibnul Haarith from Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Yazeed who said: It was said to Alqama: ”Why not sit in the masjid so that (the people) gather around you, ask you (questions) and we sit with you. Indeed, they ask those below you (in knowledge0” He (Abdur-Rahmaan) said: so Alqamah said: ”Indeed, I hate that (they) march behind me, saying: ”This is Alqamah; This is Alqamah.”

Our Salaf–look at this type of humility!

Abu khaythama (rahimahullaah) reported in Kitaabul Ilm with a chain of transmission going back to Hasan al-Basri, who said: ” When a man sits amongst the people and they consider him to be ignorant even though he is not, then this is the Muslim who possesses  understanding in truth.

Our Salaf–They did not hasten to give verdicts

Abu khaythama narrated in kitaab al-ilm with a chain of transmission going back to Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Bishr Al-Azraq that two men came in from the doors of kinda whilst Abu Mas’ood Al-Ansaari was sitting in a gathering–(so) one of them (.i.e. one of the two men) said: “Is any man here to judge between us?” A man from the gathering said: “I can.” So Abu Mas’ ood got hold of a handful of pebbles and hit him with them. Thereafter he said to him:”Indeed it used to be hated that a person should hasten to give a verdict. [5] The Creed of the Saudi Kings

The reaction of King ‘Abdul-‘Azeez as-Su’ood upon being praised in lines of poetry.

Once, during one of King ‘Abdul-‘Azeez as-Su’ood’s (rahimahullaah) trips to the town of al-Kharj (7th of Dhul-Hijjah 1363AH -approx: 23rd November 1944CE) a poet from the people of Najd entered upon him. In his hand was a poem he had written, and so he sought permission from the King to read it out. He began: You are our hope and in you is hope… Upon hearing this King ‘Abdul-‘Azeez called out in rejection and glanced across the gathering to Shaykh Hamad al-Jaasir, saying, “O Ibn Jaasir, take this man and teach him some Tawheed!” [Source: Min Hayaatil-Malik ‘Abdil-‘Azeez, pg.71]

Our Salaf: Abu Ubaidah said. ”There is no red or black skinned person amongst you….”

Thaabit Al-Bunaanee said: Abu Ubaidah said, ”O people! Indeed I am a person from Quraish. And there is no red or black skinned person amongst you who considers me to be more fearful of Allaah than him, except I wish that I am like him (because he humbled himself by considering me more virtuous) [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 1/81]

Our Salaf: Dahhaak–He used to weep when evening approached…..

Qabeesah Bin Qais Al-Anbaaree (rahimahullaah) said: When evening approached Dahhaak Bin Muzaahim used to weep; so he was asked:”What makes you weep?” He said: ”I do not know which of my deeds will be raised today (i.e. accepted by Allaah)” [Sifatus Safwa: 4/150]
