A peril that calls for constant awareness in all undertakings

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

We ask Allah:

O Ever Living! O The Self Subsisting, upon Whom everything depends! By Your Mercy I seek assistance; rectify for me all of my affairs and do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye. [Silsilah As-Saheehah Number 227]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Hasten towards good deeds, because there will be trials which would be like a part of a dark night, wherein a man wakes up as a believer and becomes a disbeliever by night or he begins the night as a believer and wakes up as a disbeliever, and a man would sell his religion for a portion of the worldly life”. [Muslim 118]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

This is proof (to show that) the worldly life is one of the trials- the Zahratud Dunyaa (adornments of the worldly life) and Zinaatud Dunya (things of the worldly life such as food, drinks, transportation, mansions, castles, status etc)- thus a person abandons his religion. A person might be captured by desire and love of the worldly things, thus he abandons his religion due to it. Allah warned us against the worldly life, its adornment and being deceived by it, instead we take from the worldly life that which is sufficient in obedience to Allah. As for just going along and being forgetful of the Afterlife, this is destruction itself”. (1)

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

A believer hastens towards (good) deeds. He is cautious because he might be afflicted with sudden death and an illness that destroys his strength, thus he is unable to perform good deeds. He might be afflicted by infirm old age and other things. Therefore, it is obligated to a person to make good use of his life, health and mind through righteous deeds before he is prevented from doing that – sometimes due to sickness and other than it; sometimes due to covetousness, love of the worldly things and preferring it over the Hereafter, and its beautification by the enemies of Allah, the callers to unbelief and misguidance. (2)

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah protect him, said:

O brothers! I warn you against harbouring intentions of seeking after the Dunyah, its status and authority in the affair of learning and seeking knowledge, because indeed (knowledge of the religion) is worship – amongst the best types of worship; rather the religion, acts of worship, Jihad and a (successful) life cannot be established except through this knowledge. However, it is obligated to us to purify our intentions in this worship. “Whoever seeks knowledge by which the pleasure of Allah is sought, but he only acquires it for worldly gain, he will not smell the fragrance of Paradise”. [Abu Dawud. Number 3664]

This is a very important point and a great affair which the students of knowledge must be notified, for indeed many of them are heedless of it. It may be that a person seeks knowledge for the sake of worldly gain or other goals that are not beloved to Allah -neither legislated nor permitted by Allah, thus they fall into destruction. This affair enters into the rebuke directed at the Yahud.

The likeness of those who were entrusted with the (obligation of the) Taurat (Torah) (i.e. to obey its commandments and to practice its legal laws), but who subsequently failed in those (obligations), is as the likeness of a donkey who carries huge burdens of books (but understands nothing from them). How bad is the example (or the likeness) of people who deny the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah. And Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers, etc.).

I seek the protection (of Allah) for myself and for you from these blameworthy traits – a person possesses knowledge and does not act upon it, thus, he is either included (amongst those mentioned in this) verse or some of it applies to him. May Allah protect us and you, for indeed the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, informed us about the destination of those who perform acts of worship only to be seen, whether it is a student of knowledge, a scholar, a Mujahid or one who spends his wealth (in charity).

O my brothers! Sincerity is a great affair. It is incumbent upon a Muslim to guard it and take himself to account at every moment of his life. One of the Salaf said: “I used to hold that the hadith requires a Niyyah [i.e. sincere intention for seeking knowledge of hadith], but then I realised that every hadeeth requires a (sincere) intention. Therefore, when you narrate or speak, do you desire praise from the people or do you desire the Face of Allah [The Blessed and Exalted]? Do you desire that it is said, “He is a scholar; he is intelligent, he is a learned person of sound, precise and robust understanding” or do you desire the Face of Allah and to fulfil the responsibility you carry. (3)

Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Eagerness for high status is two types: the first is seeking high status through leadership, authority and wealth. This is very dangerous and in most cases it prevents (a person) from the good of the afterlife, its nobility, honour and elevated station. Allah [The Most High] said:

تِلْكَ الدَّارُ الْآخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًا ۚ وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

That home of the Hereafter [i.e. Paradise], We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the pious]. [Al-Qasas. 83]

The second type is seeking high status and to be raised in status above the people through the religious affairs, such as knowledge, deeds and Zuhd. This is more abominable than the first type and greater in danger and corruption. This is because knowledge, deeds and Zuhd are (matters) through which one seeks what Allah (has prepared for His slaves) of high station and everlasting bliss (in the afterlife)- a means to drawing close to Him and to receive His favours. Imaam Sufyaan Ath-Thawree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Knowledge has more virtue because it is for the (purpose) of attaining fear of Allah, but if not, it is just like all other things”. (4)

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: The seeker of leadership- even through falsehood- becomes pleased with a statement that contains an exaltation of himself, even if it is falsehood, becomes angered by a statement that contains a rebuke against him, even if it is truth. The believer (i.e. the one with strong Iman and a more perfect fear of Allah) is pleased with a statement of truth whether it is for or against him and he is angered by a statement of falsehood whether it is for or against him. This is because Allah [The Most High] loves truth, truthfulness and justice, and He hates lies and oppression. (5)

Al-Allaamah Siddeeq Hasan Khan [may Allaah have mercy upon him] spoke about repelling the harm that maybe attributed to knowledge due to behaviour of some people who seek it for other than its true aim; then he said: “Like the one who learns for the sake of wealth or status. The aim behind the religious sciences is not to earn; rather it is for the purpose of acquainting oneself with realities and rectify one’s behaviour. The one who seeks Islamic knowledge for the purpose of trade cannot be a scholar; rather he only resembles the scholars. The scholars who resided in the lands beyond the river (a) revealed and spoke about it when they learned about the construction of schools in Baghdad; so they established gatherings of reminder regarding knowledge and said, “The pure souls and possessors of lofty ambition used to pre-occupy themselves with knowledge and their intention behind seeking knowledge was due to its nobility and the perfection reached by way of it; therefore, they came to the scholars to benefit from them and their knowledge. And when a wage (or monetary gain) is attached to it, the ignoble (or despicable) and lazy one will approach it, and thus becomes a reason for his elevation, and from here the sciences of wisdom are abandoned, even though they are self-evident in their nobility”. (6)

We ask Allah:

O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity, etc) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of Iman, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others). (7)

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. Harmony, respect and love between senior scholars

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Harmony and Respect Between Senior Scholars

Al-Allamah Muhammad Ibn Abdil Wahhab Al-Bannah -may Allah have mercy upon him, was considered one of Shaikh Rabee’s Shuyukh. Anyone who knew Shaikh Al-Bannah will know that he used to hold Shaikh Rabee in high esteem. On one occasion when he visited him at his house, Shaikh Al-Bannah said to him, “Take a seat and do not stand, for even though I am your Shaikh, you are my teacher”.

He was asked whether Shaikh Rabee is considered one of the senior scholars, so he said: “Who among the scholars of this era and before it truly knows the numerous callers to Islam like him?! He is known for evidence and proof and does not speak against anyone except with evidence. For this reason, I say that Rabee Hadi is like Yahyah Ibn Ma’een in this era. I say that indeed Rabee is the Yahya Ibn Ma’een of this era. May Allah reward him (with good), preserve him, and safeguard his intellect and memory. The most knowledgeable regarding the (situation) of men – with proof and evidence- is Rabee Hadi. May Allah keep him firm and alive, so that he refutes those who misrepresent Salafiyyah and wage war against it. We ask Allah to reveal their state of affairs, expose them, and protect us from their evil”. [1]

Beware of the disease of the despots because pride [I], avarice, and envy were the first (sins through which) Allah was disobeyed. Raising yourself above your teacher is pride, [II] being arrogant towards the one who benefits you from amongst those who are below you is pride, [III] and falling short in acting upon knowledge is a sludge of pride and an indication of being deprived.

Imam Muhammad Bin Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: [I] The Prophet said, “Pride is to reject the truth and mock the people”. This refers to Shaytan’s behaviour when he was commanded to prostrate to Adam, but pride prevented him from doing so. He refused and was haughty. [II] Raising oneself can either be by way of the tongue and it can also be by way of sentiments (feelings, attitude, etc). He (the student) may be walking with his teacher, while swaggering and saying, “I did this, and I did this”. [III] Likewise, being arrogant towards the one who is below you in knowledge is pride. This also occurs with some of the students, and if someone below him in knowledge informs him of something, you find him arrogant and does not accept. We ask Allah for well-being because this type of pride is a lack of acting upon the knowledge one knows. [2]

Accepting Advice and Wholehearted Submission to The truth is One of the Great Obligations (Obligated) to all Muslims

All praises be to Allāh, [2] and may peace and blessings be upon Allah’s Messenger, his family, his companions, and those who follow his guidance. To proceed:

I came across what some internet websites have disseminated (or posted) regarding a statement attributed to me, that I stated during one of my lectures: “If the Messenger of Allah disowned (or freed himself) from you through (or upon) the tongue of our Lord”. I said it while citing (or utilising as proof) the statement of Allah, the Exalted:

إن الذين فرقوا دينهم وكانوا شيعا لست منهم في شيء

“Verily, those who divide their religion and break up into sects (all kinds of religious sects), you (O Muhammad) have nothing to do with them” [3] regarding the prohibition of splitting (divergent sects, groups, parties). Then I stated: “How can we, my brothers, not fear while we choose this splitting and live with it for generations and ages?”

I seek Allah’s forgiveness – a hundred times – for this ugly (disgusting) and false statement. I request the removal of this statement from all cassettes (recordings) in which it appears, and I emphasise that anyone who possesses a recording containing this statement should delete it. And I say: Indeed, this statement is ugly (disgusting) and false; exalted is Allah above it, and free is He from it. That is because He, The Exalted, is free from any resemblance to the created things, as He, Glorified be He and free from all imperfections, says:

لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ

There is nothing like (similar) to Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [4]

Likewise, He, The Mighty and Majestic, says:

قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ

Say (with a firm, resolute statement): “He is Allāh, (who is) uniquely One (in His perfect names, attributes, actions, and His right to worship). Allāh, the Eternal, Self-Sufficient Master (of utmost perfection in His attributes, to whom all creatures turn for their needs whilst He has none). He did not beget (such that He became a father) nor was He begotten (such that He became a son). And there is none equal, similar or comparable to Him (in His perfect names, attributes and actions).” https://www.thenoblequran.com/q/#/sura/112/1

And He, the Exalted, says:
هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُۥ سَمِيًّا
Do you know of any that is worthy of His name (due to having similarity to Him)? [5]

In these noble verses are an affirmation of the Attributes of His Perfection and the descriptions of His majesty, while also exalting Him above attributes and descriptions of deficiency and the likeness to created beings. Neither is anyone similar nor comparable to Him in His Dhat (Self), and His Attributes, nor in any of His Magnificent Attributes. [6]

Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah affirm all of the attributes mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah without Tashbih, Ta’teel, Takyeef, or Tamtheel with regards to anything of His Attributes, such as Ascension above His Throne – above all of His creations, His Highness, Descent, Hearing, Sight, Ability, Iraadah, knowledge, Speech, and Wisdom, and the fact that He, The Exalted, is the Creator, the Provider, Giver of Life, and Causer of Death, among the other affirmed Names and Lofty Attributes of His. Ahlus Sunnah affirm them without Takyeef, Tamtheel, Tashbih, or Ta’teel, standing in opposition to Ahlul Ahwa (the sects upon vain desires in their creed), such as the Jahmiyyah, Khawarij, Mu’tazilah, Rawaafid, and Ash’ariyyah. [7]

And all praises be to Allah, I am from those whom Allah blessed with this methodology, which I firmly believe in the depth of my inner-self. I teach it, advocate for it, and defend it as a student and a teacher; calling to it with all my ability, establishing allegiance and enmity based on it from the beginning of my life (i.e. when he became acquainted with it). This statement, which I made during my lecture- in which I called to this path and urged those who oppose it to revise it – is extremely hated to me. This ugly (repugnant, disgusting) statement was a slip of the tongue on my part and had someone alerted me at the moment I uttered it, I would have rejected and distanced myself from it. It is not justified for anyone who comes across it to remain silent about it. It is akin to the statement made by the man whom the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, cited as an example, who said out of overwhelming happiness: “O Allah! You are my servant and I am Your Lord”. [8] Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stated, “He (i.e. this man) erred due to overwhelming happiness.” Nevertheless, I experience profound pain from it and strongly condemn it for both myself and others (.e. not to utter this statement).

I beseech Allah, the Generous Lord of the Mighty Throne, to forgive me for all my sins, both those I have concealed and those I have made known. I ask for forgiveness for my slips and errors, including those of the pen, the tongue, the limbs, and the heart. “All the children of Adam commit mistakes, and the best of those who err are the repentant.” I beseech Allah to make me among the repentant and the purified. Accepting advice and adhering to the truth is one of the most obligatory duties for all Muslims, regardless of the source. It is not permissible for a Muslim to belittle or disdain the advisor, no matter their status. I seek refuge in Allah from rejecting advice or defending any wrong or falsehood that originates from me, for such behavior is characteristic of the corrupt, arrogant, obstinate, and those who, when given a reminder do not reflect (or take heed). I seek refuge in Allah from these ugly (repugnant, disgusting) traits. I ask Allah to include me among those about whom He says:

وَٱلَّذِینَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِـَٔایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ لَمۡ یَخِرُّوا۟ عَلَیۡهَا صُمࣰّا وَعُمۡیَانࣰا

And those who, when they are reminded of the Signs of their Lord, fall not deaf and blind thereat. [9]

I advise myself and all Muslims to adhere to this methodology and remain steadfast in it, to accept the advice of those who advise, and to follow the path of the righteous predecessors in mutual advice, enjoining one another upon truth, and accepting guidance, in consideration (and application) of Allah’s statement:

وَٱلْعَصْرِ
إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ

By (the phenomenon of) time (which Allah manifests through His creation of night and day and in which the servants perform their deeds). Indeed, (all of) mankind is in loss. Except those who believe (in Allāh, His Angels, Books, Prophets, the Last Day and the Divine Decree) and work righteous deeds (which are sincere and correct) and mutually advise each other (in calling to and abiding by) the truth and mutually advise each other with patience (in facing the inevitable harms brought by calling to the truth). https://www.thenoblequran.com/q/#/sura/103/1 [10]
And in consideration (and application) of Allah’s statement:

والمؤمنون والمؤمنات بعضهم أولياء بعض يأمرون بالمعروف وينهون عن المنكر

The believers, men and women, are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin good and forbid evil. [11]

Among the signs of upright guidance, uprightness, truthfulness (in statement and action), and salvation in this worldly and the Hereafter is to be steadfast upon the Book and the Sunnah, and to follow this methodology in belief, action, manners, and in enjoining good and forbidding evil, addressing shortcomings with wisdom and through (honourable, straight forward, honest) ways.

And I beseech Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, to grant success to this Ummah, particularly Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah, to advance this great methodology, unite their word upon it, and enable them to achieve (or attain upright) leadership, dignity, and honour in this worldly life; enable them to adhere to this methodology that will lead them to safety and salvation in the Hereafter. Indeed, my Lord is All-Hearing of supplications.

May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

[8] Anas Bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, said: Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant when he turns back to Him than one of you would feel upon finding his lost camel in a desolate land, which had carried his food and drink. When he loses hope of recovering it, he lies down in the shade and is disappointed about his camel, thus he suddenly sees his camel standing right beside him. Overwhelmed with joy, he grabs its reins and exclaims: “O Allah! You are my servant, and I am Your Lord.” He has made a mistake due to the intensity of his happiness. [Sahih Muslim 2747]

Some masked emotions that foster an aversion to acknowledging truth

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Some masked emotions that foster an aversion to acknowledging truth from an opponent

Al-Allamah Abdur Rahman Al-Mu’allimee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

To oppose desires – by way of action – for the sake of the truth is a manifest affair due to the obligation and difficulty it involves, and this can be viewed from different angles as follows:

A person sees that by acknowledging the truth, it would necessitate that he has acknowledged that he was upon falsehood, because a person is nurtured upon a religion, creed, school of thought or views, which he acquired from his nurturer and teacher, considers it to be the truth and followed it for a long time. Then when it becomes clear to him that (the religion, creed, view, or school of thought) is false, it becomes difficult for him to acknowledge, just like when his forefathers, ancestors or the one he follows are upon a (particular) way and its falsity is clarified for him, because he sees that their deficiencies necessitate his own deficiencies, and an acknowledgement of their misguidance or errors necessitates his own.

It may be that clinging to falsehood gave him prestige, fame and a livelihood, so it becomes difficult for him to acknowledge that (what he is upon is) falsehood and thus all those benefits (i.e. the fame, prestige, livelihood etc) would disappear.

It may be that a person is upon ignorance or falsehood, then another person comes along and clarifies the proofs for him, so he sees that by acknowledging such proofs, it would necessitate that he is lacking (in understanding) and that it was that person who guided him. And due to this we find that it is not difficult for some of those attributed to knowledge to acknowledge their mistakes when it becomes manifests to them in their researches and studies, but it becomes difficult for them if it was others who clarified such mistakes.

When another person clarifies the truth for him, he sees that by acknowledging such truth it would necessitate an acknowledgement of the clarifier’s virtue, knowledge and correctness due to that clarification, and thus that becomes great in the eyes of the people and many people follow him [i.e. the person who clarified the truth]. So you will find some of those attributed to knowledge being eager to prove the mistakes of other scholars even if that is done by way of falsehood due to envy and seeking to diminish their status amongst the people.

To oppose desires for the sake of the truth -in affairs of knowledge and creed- can indeed be difficult to accomplish, therefore it requires (sincere) research and contemplation. And in this regard, one is in need of asking the scholars and benefiting from them, adhering to fear of Allaah, seeking the Tawfeeq of Allaah and guidance. (1)

Al-Allaamah Abdur Rahmaan Bin Yahyah Al-Mu’allimee, may Allah have mercy upon him, also stated: Ponder on the fact that truth is noble and falsehood is lowly. Ponder on the Greatness of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]- the fact that Allaah is the Lord of the entire universe, Allaah loves truth and hates falsehood, and that the one who follows truth is deserving of the Pleasure of the Lord of the universe. Allaah [Glorified be He] will be his protector in the worldly life and the Afterlife by choosing for him everything that is good, better, more beneficial, more perfect, more noble and loftier until Allaah removes his soul whilst being pleased with him. Then Allaah raises him, brings him close and makes him dwell in paradise with honour- in permanent bliss and eternal nobility which no imagination can fully conceive its greatness. He should ponder on the fact that the one who clings to falsehood is deserving of the displeasure, anger and punishment of the Lord of the universe, and if he receives anything of worldly bliss, then indeed that is only a means of humiliating him in order that he is increased in being distanced from Allaah, so that the painful torment of the afterlife is multiplied for him, which no imagination can fully conceive its severity. He should ponder on the bliss of the worldly life [i.e. temporary] as compared to the pleasure of the Lord of the universe and the bliss in the afterlife [i.e. eternal], compare the misery of the worldly life to displeasure of the Lord of the universe and the punishment in the afterlife [i.e. the severest punishment in this life is nowhere equal to punishment in the afterlife]. He should ponder on the statement of Allah [The Mighty and Majestic]:

And they say: “Why is not this Qur’an sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Ta’if)?” Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass. And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend, and for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, and adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun”. [Surah Az-Zuhkruf. Verses 31-35] (2)

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Ignorance: This reason is mostly what overwhelms the majority of people, for indeed the one who is ignorant of something will show enmity to it and its people. If in addition to this reason, (the person) hates the one who commands him to (follow) the truth, harbours enmity and envy, then this (i.e. reason behind being prevented from accepting the truth) becomes more intense. If in addition to this, it (i.e. the truth) opposes the ones close to his heart, his customs, the one who nurtured him, the ways of his forefathers and the ones he loves and exalts, then this (i.e. the reason behind being prevented from accepting the truth) becomes even more intense. If in addition to this, he carries a wrong perception that the truth he is being called to (is an obstacle to) his status, honour, desires and goals, the (reason behind being prevented) from accepting the truth becomes very intense. If in addition to this, he fears his companions, his family and his people (i.e. due to the harm he anticipates) against himself, his wealth and status – just as what happened to Heraclius, the king of the Christians in Shaam during the era of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], then the reason (behind being prevented from accepting the truth) increases even greater, because indeed Heraclius knew the truth and he had a desire to accept Islaam, but his people did not obey him, so he feared for himself and thus chose disbelief over Islaam after guidance was made clear to him.

Envy: It is one of the greatest causes (behind being prevented from accepting the truth), because indeed it is an ingrained disease in the soul. The envier sees that the one he envies has been given virtue over him or has been given the likes of that which he has not been given; therefore this envy prevents him from complying with (the truth). Iblees was not prevented from prostrating to Adam [i.e. out of respect, when Allah commanded him and the angels to do so], except out of envy, because when he saw that Adam [peace be upon him] was given virtue and raised above him, he chose disbelief over Iman, even though he used to be in the company of the angels.

This disease is what prevented the Yahud from believing in Eesaa the son of Maryam, peace be upon both him, even though they knew -without doubt – that he was a Messenger of Allah, who came with clear proofs and guidance, however envy led them to choose disbelief over Iman and complied with it, even though they were a nation amongst whom were Rabbis, scholars, Zuhhaad [i.e. those who abstained from those lawful but unnecessary pleasures of the worldly life], judges, kings and rulers.

Fear of losing one’s status and prestige: Conversation between Abu Jahl and His Nephew Al-Musawwar Bin Makhzamah: Al-Musawwar Bin Makhzamah: ‘’O my uncle! Did you use to accuse Muhammad of lying before he started saying what he says now [i.e. his call to Tawheed]? Abu Jahl: “By Allaah, indeed Muhammad was a trustworthy young man amongst us and we have never experienced lying from him. Al-Musawwar Bin Makhzamah: “O my uncle! So why is it that you do not follow him?” Abu Jahl: “O son of my sister! We competed with Banu Haashim in nobility [i.e. which clan is more noble], so they used to feed [the pilgrims] and we used to feed the [pilgrims]; they used to provide water for [the pilgrims] and we used to provide water for [the pilgrims]; they used to give protection [to the destitute] and we used to give protection [to the destitute] until we were equal [i.e. in competing one another for nobility]. Then they said, “There is a Prophet from us”, so when are we going to get something similar to this!!

Conversation between Abu Jahl and Akhnas Bin Shuraiq: Akhnas Bin Shuraiq said to Abu Jahl on the day of Badr [i.e. the battle of Badr]: “O Abul Hakam! Inform me about Muhammad, as to whether he is a truthful person or a liar, for indeed there is no one here from Quraish who will hear our speech? Abu Jahl replied to Akhnas: “Woe to you! By Allah, indeed Muhammad is a truthful person and Muhammad has never lied, but if Banu Qusay take the leadership, the position of gatekeepers of the Kabah, providers of water for the pilgrims and Prophet hood [i.e. the Prophet Muhammad is from their clan], then what will the rest of Quraish have?! Reflections on some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali [55 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

If all the people were to unite in falsehood while you stand for the truth, you are the one upon truth, and you are the Jama’ah. Do not be deceived by the multitude of the rising foam, for they are merely debris, akin to the debris of a flood.

Ath-Thabat Alaa As-Sunnah 31

Reflections on some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali [54 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

By Allah, one must strive (to attain) sincerity. Being overtaken by one’s soul, which results in a lack of sincerity to Allah, was the hardest thing that many scholars used to describe with grief. Your soul can overcome and divert you because you desire some fame and praise. One should exert himself, strive, and bear hardship to direct this soul to the truth- towards sincerity to Allah. “Verily, deeds are based on intention and every person will have what he intended.” So, whoever desires worldly gain through his knowledge or acts of worship, just as the one who migrated (from a land of kufr to a land of Islam) only to marry a woman and desires wealth, then he obtains nothing from his migration, except for that which he migrated. The thing desired is known to you, so you miss Allah’s reward”.

The Importance of Truthfulness- By Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [Part 2]

The Importance of truthfulness and its necessity for the (upright) establishment of the worldly and religious matters- By Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him

Due to the (great) significance of truthfulness and its position in the Sight of Allah, as well as among Muslims and the sensible ones among humankind, Allah described Himself as one who is truthful. He said:

Say (O Muhammad): “Allah has spoken the truth; follow the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism, i.e. he used to worship Allah Alone), and he was not of polytheists. [Aal Imran 95]

This is a praise from Allah regarding Himself with this magnificent description (trait, quality). He is truthful in all His reports, in all His speech, in His divine legislations, in what He has narrated about His prophets and their nations, regarding the Children of Israel, their prophets, believers, and sinners, those who disbelieved among them, and regarding their alterations of Allah’s Books, namely the Torah and the Gospel, and taking their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah). [Footnote a]

Allah said:

And who is truer in statement than Allah?! [Al-Nisa 87]

Allah said:

Allah’s Promise is the Truth, and whose words can be truer than those of Allah? (Of course, none). [Al-Nisa 122]

Allah said:

And We sent not (as Our Messengers) before you (O Muhammad) any but men, whom We inspired, (to preach and invite mankind to believe in the Oneness of Allah). So ask of those who know the Scripture if you know not. And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals; then We fulfilled to them the promise, and We saved them and those whom We willed, but We destroyed Al-Musrifun (i.e. extravagants in oppression, polytheism and in sin). [Al-Anbiya 7-9]

Allah said:

Thus We recompensed them for their rebellion [committing crimes like murdering the Prophets, eating of Riba (usury), etc.]. And verily, We are Truthful. [Al-An’am 146]

Thus, Allah has described Himself with this magnificent description (trait, quality): truthfulness in speech, truthfulness in actions, truthfulness in promises, and truthfulness in warnings. This includes truthfulness in the accounts about His prophets and beloved faithful servants, as well as truthfulness in the reports concerning His enemies, those who disbelieve in Him. Reflections on some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [52 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The seeker of truth is not swayed by admiration or reverence for prominent figures when it comes to following truth, fairness and justice; for indeed, the truth is most deserving to be followed, and it is not permissible to drop the proofs for this or that great  man. The principle of a just person, the seeker of truth, is always:

قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Say, “Bring forth your proof, if you are indeed truthful.” [Al-Baqarah 111]

Some issues of methodology elucidated for us since 1995

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

A Precise Definition of Hizbiyyah Constantly Fought By The Salafiyyoon In The West – By The Tawfeeq of Allah – Under The Guidance of The Senior Scholars, Such as Al-Allamah Rabee, Al-Allamah Ubaid and Others, During The Various Fitan and Applied to This Day, Including The Fitna of The Qutubiyyah, Sururiyyah, Salman, Safar, Abdur Rahman Abdul Khaliq, Al-Maribi, Al-Maghrawi, Al-Halabi, Al-Hajuri and Others Who Came After Them

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Bigoted partisanship for a particular idea that opposes the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger; allegiance and enmity based upon it, this is Tahazzub (illegal partisanship). This is Tahazzub even if it is not (under an) organisation. To formulate deviated ideas and gather the people on it, this is a hizb, regardless of whether it is (under an) organisation or not. [1]

A Matter Fully Understood For Nearly Three Decades In The West – By The Tawfeeq of Allah – Under The Guidance of Senior Scholars, Such as Al- Allaamah Rabee, Al-Allamah Ubaid and Others Whenever The Proponents of Illegal Partisanship Sought to Obscure It, Including The Likes of Adnan Ar’ur, Ali Halabi, Al-Maribi and Others Who Came After Them

Al-Madkhalee, may Allah preserve him, stated:

After speaking about those – amongst the different factions of the Jahmiyah, the Khawaarij, the Rawafid and the Qadariyyah, and the reason behind such Takfeer – who excommunicate (Muslims) based on falsehood , Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated, “On the opposite side of these people who make Takfeer based on falsehood, there are a people who do not know the creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah as it should be; or they know some of it and are ignorant of some. And perhaps what they know of it, they do not clarify for the people, rather they conceal it. They do they forbid innovations in religious affairs- neither censure the proponents of innovation in religious affairs nor chastise them; rather they may censure speech regarding the Sunnah and the fundamental principles of the religion – completely – and not differentiate between what the true adherents to the Prophetic tradition say and what proponents of religious innovations and schism say; or they would affirm all their differing paths in a manner similar to how the scholars would affirm the different opinions related to affairs of Ijtihaad in which difference of opinion is justified (or allowed). This path has overwhelmed many of the Murji’ah, some of the jurists, those pursuing the path of asceticism and the philosophers, just as it has overwhelmed – first and foremost – many amongst the people of desires and rhetoric. Both these paths are perverted, outside the Kitaab [i.e. The Qur’aan] and the Prophetic tradition”. [2]

After quoting the statement of Shaikh Al-Islam, Al-Allamah Rabee stated, “I say, may Allaah have mercy on Ibn Tamiyyah. Indeed, he clarified the situation of the people of his era and those before them, then what if he saw the situation of many amongst the Al-Jamaa’aat Al-Hizbiyyah Wal-Bid’iyyah [The Groups of Illegal Partisanship and Innovations in religious affairs] who ascribe themselves to true adherents to the Prophetic tradition and take cover behind him- in particular – to promote their falsehoods. What if he saw them whilst they have definitely gathered between the paths of the two groups- the khawaarij and those who follow their way in pronouncing Takfeer in the subject matter of Al-Haakimiyyah and the way of the Mur’jiah in the manner they approach the affair of people who are upon the major and numerous innovations in religious affairs, and equating innovation in religion to those affairs of the religion in which Ijtihaad is justified, whose people are rewarded alongside a refutation against their mistakes. In the view of these people, the leaders of Misguidance and innovation in religion are just like the Imams of Guidance and Sunnah. [3]

Finally, Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah stated: Rather what is obligatory is to clarify that which Allah sent His Messengers with and (revealed) in His Books – propagate that which the Messengers brought from Allah and fulfill the covenant which Allah took from the scholars. Therefore, it is obligatory to know that which the Messengers brought, believe in it, propagate it, call to it, striving with it, weigh up all that which the people embark upon – (statements, actions, religious fundamentals and subsidiary issues pertaining to the apparent actions of the Limbs and affairs related to actions of the heart)- under the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger; neither following desires (through) customs, a school of law, a religious order, a leader or a predecessor; neither following conjecture through a weak hadith nor corrupt analogy, regardless whether it is an analogy that offers some degree of certainty or not; nor blindly following someone whom it is not obligated to follow his statement and deed, because indeed Allaah -in His Book – censured those who follow conjecture and that which their souls desire, whilst they abandon that which came to them from their Lord of Guidance. [4]

A Path Understood and Followed By The Salafiyyoon – By The Tawfeeq of Allah – in The West For Nearly Three Decades Under The Guidance of The Senior Scholars, Such as Al-Allamah Rabee, Al-Allamah Ubaid and Others, Whenever Individuals Committed Wrong and Wanted Special Treatment or to Escape With Their Wrong doings, Such as Suhaib Hasan, and Others

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

ﻭﻟﻴﺲ ﻟﻠﻤﻌﻠﻤﻴﻦ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺤﺰﺑﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ
ﻭﻳﻔﻌﻠﻮﺍ ﻣﺎ ﻳﻠﻘﻲ ﺑﻴﻨﻬﻢ ﺍﻟﻌﺪﺍﻭﺓ ﻭﺍﻟﺒﻐﻀﺎﺀ،
ﺑﻞ ﻳﻜﻮﻧﻮﻥ ﻣﺜﻞ ﺍﻷﺧﻮﺓ ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻌﺎﻭﻧﻴﻦ ﻋﻠﻰ
ﺍﻟﺒﺮ ﻭﺍﻟﺘﻘﻮﻱ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻗﺎﻝ ﺗﻌﺈﻟﻰ

It not allowed for the teachers to initiate (illegal) partisanship between the people and do that which would cause enmity and hatred between them; but rather they should be brothers who cooperate upon righteousness and piety, as Allah [The Exalted] said: [وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ – Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa [virtue, righteousness and piety]; but do not help one another in sin and transgression]. [Al-Ma’idah. 2]

It is not allowed for anyone of them to receive a pledge from anyone to be in agreement with him in everything he wants – having allegiance to the one he is allied to and enmity against the one he harbours enmity, and whoever does this is similar to Genghis Khan and his ilk (in this affair), who take as their loyal friends the one in agreement with them and the one who oppose them as a rebellious enemy; rather it is obligated on them and their followers (i.e. the teachers) to fulfil the covenant of Allah and His Messenger by obeying Allah and His Messenger, doing that which Allah and His Messenger have commanded, declare unlawful that which Allah and His Messenger have declared unlawful, and preserve the rights of the teachers in the manner commanded by Allah and His Messenger. So, if one’s teacher is oppressed, he should help him; but if the teacher is the oppressor, he should not aid him in his act of oppression; rather he forbids him from it, as it has been established in the authentic books of hadeeth that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?” The Prophet said, “By preventing him from oppressing others.” [Sahih Al-Bukhaari 2444]

If an argument and dispute occurs between a teacher and another teacher, or between a student and another student, it is not permissible for anyone to help one of them until he knows the truth – neither to aid him based on ignorance nor desires; rather he he examines the affair, so if the truth becomes clear to him, he helps the one who deserves to be helped (due to him being upon the truth) against the one upon error – regardless whether the one who deserves to be helped is one of his companions or the companion of someone else, or whether the one upon error is one of his companions or the companion of someone else. Therefore, the aim is only to worship Allah alone, obedience to Allah’s Messenger, adherence to truth and establishment of justice. Allah [The Exalted] says:

يا أيها الذين آمنوا كونوا قوامين بالقسط شهداء لله ولو على أنفسكم أو الوالدين والأقربين، إن يكن غنياً أو فقيراً فالله أولى بهما، فلا تتبعوا الهوى أن تعدلوا وإن تلووا أو تعرضوا فإن الله كان بما تعملون خبيراً

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah; even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. [An-Nisaa. 135] [5] [End of quotes]

May Allah keep us safe and protect us from every evil. May Allah bless the elder brothers at Salafipublications whom Allah – by His great Mercy – enabled to clarify numerous issues of Manhaj in the mid 90s at the website  Salafipublications.com, under the guidance of the senior scholars in the East, such as Al-Allamah Rabee and others. The Importance of truthfulness – By Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [Part 1]

The Importance of truthfulness and its necessity for the (upright) establishment of the worldly and religious matters- By Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him

All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon Allah’s Messenger, his family, his companions, and those who follow his guidance. To proceed:

Indeed, the quality (trait) of truthfulness is one of the greatest foundations of both the religion and worldly matters; neither the worldly matters nor can the religion be upright through lies, betrayal, or deception. Truthfulness and (truthful) affirmation is the strong bond between the Messengers and those who believe in them. Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَالَّذِي جَاءَ بِالصِّدْقِ وَصَدَّقَ بِهِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ
لَهُم مَّا يَشَاءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

And he (Muhammad SAW) who has brought the truth (this Quran and Islamic Monotheism) and (those who) believed therein (i.e. the true believers of Islamic Monotheism), those are the pious. They shall have all that they will desire with their Lord. That is the reward of good-doers. [Az-Zumar 33-34]

He (Allah) stated about lies and denial (of truth):

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن كَذَبَ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَكَذَّبَ بِالصِّدْقِ إِذْ جَاءَهُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْكَافِرِينَ

Then, who does more wrong than one who utters a lie against Allah, and denies the truth [this Quran, the Prophet (Muhammad), the Islamic Monotheism, the Resurrection and the reward or punishment according to good or evil deeds] when it comes to him! Is there not in Hell an abode for the disbelievers? [Az-Zumar 32]

Due to the station of truthfulness and (truthful) affirmation of truth – in the Sight of Allah, among rational people, the possessors of sound natural disposition- and their good outcomes; and (due to) the danger of lies and denial of truth, I wish to present this speech that is derived from Allah’s Book and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and from the biography and circumstances of some of the truthful and faithful companions of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I beseech Allah to assist and grant me the ability through everything I am able to provide advice and clarification to my fellow Muslims. And I ask Him to place us all among those who are truthful, eager to adhere to the truth, and steadfast upon it; and make all of us among those who love the truth and strive to follow it, and (truthfully) affirm it.
