Seek Provision and Knowledge, But Do Not Entertain The One Who Turns It Into Mutual Rivalry!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] says:

The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die). Nay! You shall come to know! Again, Nay! You shall come to know! Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things); verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)! And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight! Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in, in this world)! [Surah At-Takaathur]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated: This Surah is specifically based on the mention of promise, punishment and threat, and it is enough as an admonition for the one who understands it.

Regarding the statement of Allaah: [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ – You are diverted] – meaning, they are preoccupied in a manner that is not free from blame, for indeed being diverted by something is to be preoccupied with it. So, if this occurs intentionally, then one is held accountable; but if it is not intentional, then one is excused, such as the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] regarding the Khameesah [square garment], “Indeed, it has distracted my attention from the prayer”. (1) A person is pardoned for this because it is a type of (unintentional) forgetfulness. It is also said, [Lahaa Bish Shay – distracted by something]- meaning, busied with it; and [Lahaa Anhu – distracted from it]- meaning, if he turns away from something. The heart is that which is diverted and the limbs engage in play, and this is why Allaah’s statement [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُر- The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you] is a stronger rebuke than the statement “they are preoccupied’, because the doer may preoccupy his limbs with what he is doing, but his heart is not diverted.

At-Takaathur means to compete one another in piling up something by way of mutual rivalry, but Allaah did not mention the thing that is piled up, therefore the meaning is general. Everything a person competes in – other than obedience to Allaah, obedience to the Messenger and that which benefits a person’s Afterlife – by way of mutual rivalry is included in this affair. It enters into every affair, such as wealth, status, leadership, women and speaking; or knowledge, especially when it is not utilised as proof; also collecting books, writing books, engaging in the discussion of numerous topics of the religion, categorising and initiating it. At-Takaathur occurs when a person seeks to amass more than others and this is blameworthy, except in that which earns a person Allaah’s love, Pleasure and Reward, because seeking more than others in this affair is competition in good and to excel one another.

In a hadith in Saheeh Muslim, Abdullaah Ibn Ash-Shikkheer [may Allaah be pleased with him] went to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] whilst he was reciting [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ]; then the Prophet said: The son of Adam claims: My wealth, my wealth! O son of Adam! Is there anything as your belonging except that which you consumed, which you utilised, or which you wore and then it was worn out or you gave as charity and sent it forward?” [An Excerpt from Al-Fawaa’id. Pages 58-59]

The basis of being diverted is due to heedlessness, then it affects every pursuit of the person. Rivalry in amassing abundant worldly things and boasting about it, such as two groups of people saying to one another, “We have more”. (2) Busied through turning away from obedience to Allaah and worship; gathering wealth and children by way of mutual rivalry, boasting about your tribes and families, busy with livelihoods and trade by way of mutual rivalry. (3)

You have become preoccupied until you are diverted from what is more important such as remembrance of Allaah and fulfilling acts of obedience to Him. This is an address to all the Ummah except those whose preoccupation with the affairs of the afterlife diverts them from the affairs of the worldly life and they are few. (4)

Allaah [The Exalted] reprimanded His servants due to them busying themselves by tuning away from the purpose for which they were created, which is to worship Him alone without ascribing partners to Him, to know Him (by way of the signs He has created in the universe and the revelation given to the Messenger), turning to Him sincerely in obedience and repentance and giving precedence to loving Him over everything else; but you are diverted from this by mutual rivalry in pilling up worldly things. And Allaah did not mention the thing that causes the mutual rivalry in pilling up worldly things so this Aayah includes all things, such as wealth, children, supporters, armies, servants, status and other than that through which a competitor intends to compete another competitor and the intent is not sincerity to Allaah [The Exalted]. (5)

[حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ- until you visit the graves]- Meaning, until death comes to you whilst you are upon this state of affairs; then you are placed in the graves as visitors and finally returned to your permanent abodes [on the day of resurrection]- either Jannah or Jahannam, just as a visitor returns to his permanent dwelling place. (6)

The human being reaches old age and still hopes for things- to the extent that a man reaches ninety years of age and you find him hoping and having prolonged hope for worldly things more than a fifteen year old youth. This is the meaning of the noble Aayah- that you are diverted by mutual rivalry in amassing worldly things until you die. Umar Bin Abdil Azeez [rahimahullaah] used this Aayah as proof that a visitor has to return to his permanent place and that the grave is not a permanent place of residence. Likewise, it has been mentioned regarding a Bedouin that he heard a reciter reciting, “The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, until you visit the graves”, so he said, “By Allaah! You will be resurrected”. (7)

[1] No justification of weakness, vain desires and sin in the name of difference of opinion

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Regarding the tendency to trim, cut or even shave beards and claiming that there is no harm, or posing for selfies and photos (like fashion models and actors) which they spread on social media (WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook, etc); shaving the sides of the heads in the fashions of the kuffār; or wearing long trousers below the ankle-bones and claiming that “it is not done out of arrogance” and pursuing these affairs in the name of “difference of opinion between the scholars” and using that as a reason for allowance in these matters, Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allah preserve him] responded:

In an age and society where people are inclined to disobedience, showing off, following lusts and falling into harām, the wise caller does not open for them a door that gives allowances to follow desires. Once this door is opened, over time Shaytān will lead them into open transgressions, cause them to lose all shame and modesty—you will not be able to distinguish between them and the kuffār (or fussāq) because their behaviour and outward appearance and conduct will be the same—wallāhul-musta’ān. The way of the cultivating parent and caller to Allah is to guide the people to the manners and character of the Prophets of Allah (‘alaihimus-salātu was-salām), not to search for allowances and justifications to imitate the habits of the unbelievers and enemies of Allah. This da’wah is built upon Tasfiyah and Tarbiyah (Purification and Cultivation)—not just one without the other.

We are not allowed to utilize the argument, “O but the scholars differ” to justify our positions. Furthermore, we are certainly not allowed to take a position that suits our desires and shahawāt, and then try and find “proofs” and scholars to justify it—that is not the way of Ahlus-Sunnah. In any case, difference of opinion is not a proof or justification for anyone to follow his desires, Al-Hāfidh Ibn Abdil-Barr (rahimahullāh) stated:

“Difference of opinion is not a proof with any of the people of knowledge from the scholars of the Ummah, except for the one who has no insight, has no knowledge and has no proof for his saying.” (Jāmi’ Bayān al-‘Ilm wa Fadhlihi, 2/229)

Furthermore, where is the proof for posing, showing off, lack of shyness, absence of humility, and following the fashions of the unbelievers in the character of the Prophets of Allāh (‘alaihimus-salātu was-salām)? They were the furthest from possessing these lowly traits.

We are living in a society that encourages and shamelessly promotes: immodesty, nakedness, displaying oneself, exploitation of women, following immoral fashions and customs, showing off and opposing the Prophetic manners in every manner possible. In this environment should we be encouraging our youth with allowances that lead to imitate these people further?! Where is our wisdom and our nurturing?

The cultivating teachers protect our youth and our communities from falling into these traps—not giving them excuses and reasons to lose their love and adherence to the way of the Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) and the Salaf.

Pay attention to your communities—bring them closer to the Prophetic manners and conduct—don’t give them excuses to move away from that. Remember, what you teach them, they will pass to their wives, children and families—so it is a heavy trust and a great amānah before Allāh. And if you find it difficult, please leave it to those who are capable and who don’t fear the blame of the blamers. May Allah bless you. I remind you once again that this Da’wah is built upon the pillars of Tasfiyah and Tarbiyah—let us focus on both.

One of the disturbing reasons why the butcher of Gaza (callous Netanyahu) and his Zionist henchmen continue murdering innocent women, men and babies!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] says:

مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا

If anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land – it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Ayah 32]

Meaning: The killer lacks any valid reason to take a life, and it is imperative that no one should kill another person unless there is a justified cause.

If an individual is audacious enough to murder someone who does not deserve it, this indicates that they do not differentiate between the person they killed and others, rather, they would commit this act whenever their evil inclinations prompt them to do so. Consequently, their audacious behavior, which led them to kill, is tantamount to killing all of humanity. Conversely, if a person refrains from killing and instead saves a life, even though their inner desires urge them to do otherwise, out of fear of Allah, it is as if they have saved the lives of all humankind. This is because the fear of Allah that they possess prevents them from killing someone who does not deserve it.

[19] Seeking to Discredit Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [O Bid’ee Muhammad Hijaab! No kind words for one who does not honour an upright Scholar]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ibn Asaakir said: Al-Abdariy was the Shaikh with the most memorisation I have ever met and he was a jurist. It was reported that he entered Damascus during the lifetime of Abul-Qasim Bin Abee Al-Ala, and I heard him when Imam Malik was mentioned, he said “He is coarse and rough!” He stated when he came across a statement of Abu Ubaid, “He was nothing but an absent-minded donkey who did not know jurisprudence!” I was told about him that he said about Ibrahim Al-Nakha’ee: “He is one-eyed, evil!” So we gathered one day with Ibn As-Samarqandi to read the book Al-Kamil, and it was stated in it “As-Sadi said such and such” , so he said, “Ibn Adi is lying, rather this is a statement of Ibrahim Al-Jawzajani”. So, I said to him, “He is Al-Sadi. How much bad manners can we tolerate from you when you say such-and-such about Ibrahim, and say about Malik “Coarse” and speak about Abu Ubaid?!” He became angry and trembling, and said, “Ibn Al-Khatibah, Al-Bardani and others were afraid of me, so the matter came to you and you say this about me?!” So, Ibn As-Samarqandi said to him: “This is for that (behaviour of yours)”. I (Ibn Asaakir) said to him, “We’ll only honour you as long as you honour the Imams”. (1)

Therefore, we inform Bid’ee Muhammad Hijaab that even if he was one who possess knowledge and followed the Sunnah, he would have still received rebuke  for his disrespectful behavior. Consequently, considering his deviation from the right path and his obstinate attitude, he deserves an even more severe reprimand. So, let it be known to him and all those who speak ill of the erudite Salafi Scholar Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan or any other upright scholar, that their wrongful actions can be summed up in the following poem:

يُخاطِبُني السَفيهُ بِكُلِّ قُبحٍ
فَأَكرَهُ أَن أَكونَ لَهُ مُجيبا
يَزيدُ سَفاهَةً فَأَزيدُ حِلماً
كَعودٍ زادَهُ الإِحراقُ طيبا

[11] Seeking to Discredit Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Why is Bid’ee Muhammad Hijaab not abandoning his bidah despite its manifest evil?!]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Verily, Allah blocks the repentance of every adherent to Bidah until he abandons his bidah”. [1]

Imaam Al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “This does not constitute a Shariah ruling (i.e. does not mean that the Shariah prevents the person from repentance as a rule), but the meaning of the hadith is that an individual following the path of Bidah and it is made fairseeming to him that it is good, this one does not repent from it. This is the barrier that hinders and prevents the adherent of Bidah from seeking repentance. (i.e. to abandon the Bidah) In this subject matter here, the scholars said that Bidah in the religion is more perilous than sin, as I explained to you”. [2]

[10] Seeking to Discredit Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [O Muhammad Hijaab! Raising Figureheads of Ahlul Bidah is Tantamount to Aiding In The Destruction of The Religion]]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Al-Awzaa’ee [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

“O Muslims! Fear Allah, accept the advice of the sincere advisers and the admonition of the admonishers. know that this knowledge is religion, so beware of what you do, from whom you take your religion, the one you follow, and the one with whom your religion is safe because indeed all the proponents of religious innovation are falsifiers, liars, and sinners. They are not cautious – neither do they pay attention nor do they fear, and together with that they are not to be trusted that they would not distort what you hear. They say what they do not know with regards to what they disapprove of and when proclaiming their lies; but Allah (knows, hears, and sees) what they do. Therefore, be cautious of them, trust them not, reject them, and avoid them because this is what your earlier scholars did and commanded, and likewise the righteous ones who came thereafter. Be careful of opposing Allah and being the means to destroying the religion He has ordained – breaking its commands and prohibitions, nullifying and weakening it by respecting the innovators in religious affairs and those who initiate that which is not from the religion because you know what has been transmitted (i.e. the prohibitions) about respecting or exalting them. What can be greater respect and exaltation than acquiring your religion from them- following and believing them, drawing close to them, and assisting them in enticing the ones they entice and wooing to their views and the religion (i.e. religious innovations) they follow? This is sufficient to be regarded as associates of theirs in what they do“. [1]

[5] Seeking to Discredit or Mock Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [An Imam of the Sunnah in our era] and Muhammad Hijaab [a Stubborn Dead Heart]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy Mercy.

Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

All praise is due to Allaah, who in every age and interval between the Prophets, raises up a group from the people of knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bear ill-treatment and harm. With the Book of Allaah they give life to the dead and with the Light of Allaah they give sight to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees (the Devil) they have revived, how beautiful their effect has been upon the people, and how vile the people have been towards them! They remove from Allaah’s Book the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars and the false interpretations of the ignoramus- those who uphold the banner of innovation and let loose the trials and discords, who oppose the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and his Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book and deceive the ignorant ones with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allaah from the trials of the misguided ones. [Ar-Radd Alal Jahmiyyah Waz-Zanaadiqah. p. 2]

Imam Ibn Hajar said, “The Judge Jamaal Ad-Deen, Abu Abdillah Ar-Reemiy, the jurist, Ash-Shaafi’ee, was born in the year 710AH. He acquired knowledge of the religion from various Shaikhs in Yemen, studied hadith transmission under the jurist Ibraaheem Bin Umar Al-Alawi, and authored an explanation of At-Tanbeeh in almost 20 Volumes. He was a teacher, issued fatwas, and was highly sought after in Yemen. He gained widespread recognition and passed away in the year 791AH in Zabid. Jamaal Al-Misri Muhammad Bin Abee Bakr from Zabid informed me that he witnessed his death and his tongue became swollen and turned black. It was believed that this was a result of speaking ill of Shaikh Muhyiddin An-Nawawee”. (1)

[3] Seeking to Discredit or Mock Scholars of Ahlul Athar! [Muhammad Hijaab Manifests Behaviour of The Foolish]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Most High] said:

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تَذْبَحُوا بَقَرَةً ۖ قَالُوا أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًا ۖ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: “Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow.” They said, “Do you make fun of us?” He said, “I take Allah’s Refuge from being among Al-Jahilun (the ignorants or the foolish)”. [2:67]

A Jahil (ignoramus) speaks with a speech that contains no benefit and mocks at the people. As for a sensible person, he sees that one of the most blameworthy traits – abhorred by (sound) religion and intellect- is to mock at someone who is a human being like himself. If he has been favoured over another person, then this favour necessitates that he thanks Allah and shows mercy to Allah’s servants. Therefore, when Musa [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said this to them [أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ – I take Allah’s Refuge from being among the ignorants and the foolish ], they knew that it [i.e. what he commanded them] was truth, so they said: [ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا هِيَ -call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what it is!(2:68)] [An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi]

So, let it be known to Muhammad Hijaab and all those who speak ill of the erudite Salafi Scholar Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan or any other upright scholar, that his wrongful actions can be summed up in the following poem:
