Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee As-Salafi [rahimahullaah] said: Ahlul Bidah are the ones who kindle trials and disorder.  They are a chaotic people and are deprived of safety and security.  They are a people of trials and disturbance as opposed to Ahlul Hadeeth Was-Sunan [i.e. those who steadfastly follow the ahaadeeth of the Prophet and his Sunnah]. Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh al-Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said about Imaam ad-Daaraqutnee [rahimahullaah]:

“He hated Ilmul Kalaam (ref1), even though he never entered into it due to its evil consequences, monotonous speech without benefit, the doubts it presents in affairs that are already established based on certainty, the confusion it causes and leading to abandonment of the [authentic] narrations. There is nothing- based on what I can see or what I hold – more harmful to the Muslims in their creed than Ilmul Kalaam and philosophical logic. Many of the senior scholars of philosophical rhetoric affirmed – at the end of their lives – that they wished to die upon the religion [i.e. the religion that is in conformity with what is found in the Qur’aan, authentic Sunnah and understanding of the pious predecessors] and return to their natural disposition [i.e. Islaam as revealed in the authentic texts].

Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said, “The ones it is feared for the most that they will fall into misguidance are those scholars of philosophical rhetoric at the intermediate level, because those who did not engage in it were safe from its evils; and those who engaged in it and reached a high level became acquainted with its corruption and falsity, and thus left it”. He [Shaikhul Islaam] spoke the truth, for this is what is feared in every affair of knowledge. It is what is feared for the ones at the intermediate level in knowledge- those who are exploring the path [or are in the path of study], because indeed they consider themselves as ones who have entered into affairs of knowledge and do not leave the affair to others [i.e. they enter into affairs that are above their ability to deal with], whilst – in reality- they have not reached the highest level in knowledge and are not grounded; so they become misguided and misguiding others. Why Do We Find Khawaarij And Raafidah Making Takfeer of One Another?

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: The people of bidah, such as the khawaarij, they initiate an innovation [in the religion], excommunicate the one who opposes them and declare lawful the shedding of his [i.e. opponent’s] blood. These people [i.e. people of bidah] refute the bidah of each other, whilst he [i.e. the refuter] is also an innovator; so he refutes a bidah with another bidah, and falsehood with another falsehood. [Al-Majmoo 16/96]

Why Do You Find The Khawaarij and Rawaafid Making Takfeer of The Imaams of Upright Guidance And The Adherents to The Authentic Sunnah

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: The basis of the misguidance of these ones is their belief that the Imaams of guidance and the Jamaa’ah [i.e. the Salafus Saaleh] have exited the (confines) of justice and are misguided. This is the view of those who have abandoned the Sunnah, such as the Raafidah and those similar to them. And that which they consider to be oppression, they hold that it’s disbelief and then innovate rulings for it. These are the three stances -[i.e. they revile the Salaf, declare certain acts as oppression and then innovate rulings against them] – held by those who exit the Sunnah, such as the Harooriyyah [i.e. khawaarij], the raafidah and those similar to them. They isolate some of the fundamental principles of the Islamic Religion until they exit from it (completely), just like an arrow goes through a hunted game. [Majmoo 28/496]

Ikhwaanees Are Opportunists

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] said:

By Allaah! Islaam and the [affairs of the] Muslims are not ruined except by these categories of [people] amongst the people of bidah and misguidance-the khawaarij and those similar to them, and those who are worse, such as the rawaafid [i.e. Shiites of Iran and those upon their beliefs]. The rawaafid are worse than the khawaarij, and Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon (i.e. the sect -the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt and elsewhere) ally with them and they say: “They (rawaafid) are our brothers; the differing between us and them is like the differing between (Imaam) Maalik and (Imaam) Shaafi’ee;” meaning: The differing between us (i.e. Ikhwaan Muslimoon) and them (i.e. rawaafid shiites) is based on ijtihaad, and if Imaam (Maalik) and (Imaam) Shafee’ee differ in (some) affairs, they are all rewarded; and if we (ikhwaan al-muslimoon) differ with the rawaafid shiites, then us and them are rewarded.

O deceivers! [i.e. Ikhwaanis] The rawaafid (shiites) revile the Sahaabah and declare them disbelievers; they revile the wives of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam); they say that the Qur’aan is distorted; they (rawaafid) have shir’kiyyaat (beliefs and acts of major polytheism) and they deify the leaders of the Prophet’s family. So does all of this not harm them (i.e. harm their claim to Islaam); is this not irjaa?! (i.e. O Ikhwaanis! Is this alliance of yours with the rawaafid and that the differing between you and them is like the differing between Imaams Maalik and Shaafi’ee not Ir’jaa?!) Who Ignites Chaos, The Wars And Trials? 

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] stated:

The wars that take place between the Muslims and the splitting are only brought about by the people of desires, such as the Khawaarij, the Mutazilah and other than them! The people of desires are the ones who cause the fitnah—the Mutazilah, the khawaarij, the Rawaafid (Shiites) and other than them. Fitnah does not occur except from them and as a result of them. Who murdered Uthmaan (radiyallaahu-anhu)? Who murdered Ali (radiyallaahu-anahu)? Who were the ones that ignited the fitnah between the Muslims thereafter? It was no one else other than those people of desires. Who misled Al-Mamoon and those rulers who came after him to put Ahlus Sunnah to trial, until their Imaam Ahmad Bin Hanbal (rahimahullaah) was beaten and imprisoned? It was no one else other than the people of desires. Who brought about the imprisonment of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) until he died in prison? It was no one else other than those people of desires! A Statement About Prohibition Against Innovations In The Religion That Can Be Understood By Everyone With Some Common Sense!

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

Groups amongst the people thought that the religion needed innovation, especially in their chosen path; but the affair is not as they thought, for indeed Allaah [The Exalted] said: [ٱلۡيَوۡمَ أَكۡمَلۡتُ لَكُمۡ دِينَكُمۡ وَأَتۡمَمۡتُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ نِعۡمَتِى وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمَ دِينً۬ا‌ۚ – This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion]. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 3].

Likewise, other texts shows that the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] acquainted the Ummah with everything they need in their religious affairs. Allaah said: [وَمَا ڪَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُضِلَّ قَوۡمَۢا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَٮٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يُبَيِّنَ لَهُم مَّا يَتَّقُونَ‌ۚ – And Allah will never lead a people astray after He has guided them until He makes clear to them as to what they should avoid]. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 115]

The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: “Verily the one – among you – who lives long will see a lot of differing, so you must adhere to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafaa Ar Raashideen [the rightly guided caliphs], hold onto it firmly with your molar teeth” [i.e. adhere to it firmly].

Had it been that the Sunnah of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi wasallam] and that of the Khulafaa Ar-Raashideen is not suitable and sufficient for the believer during times of much differing, it would not be permissible to command that one [returns and adheres to it]. And also he [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] used to say in his sermons, “The worst of all affairs [in the religion] are the newly invented matters and every innovation [in the religion] is misguidance”. [An Excerpt from Al-Istiqaamah. Taking Others As Intercessors Besides Allaah!

Have they taken others as intercessors besides Allah? Say: “Even if they have power over nothing whatever and have no intelligence?” Say: “To Allah belongs all intercession. His is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth, then to Him you shall be brought back.” [Soorah Zumar: Ayah:43-44]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said: Allaah informed (us) that intercession belongs to the One who owns the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth, and that is Allaah (alone)…[for futher details see Ighaathatul Luhfaan 1/220-222]

And the saying of  (The Most High): And warn therewith (the Qur’an) those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord, when there will be neither a protector nor an intercessor for them besides Him, so that they may fear Allah and keep their duty to Him (by abstaining from committing sins and by doing all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained). [Soorah Al-An’aam: Ayah:51]

Shaikh Saaleh Aala Shaikh (hafidha-hullaah) said: So when it is the case that intercession belongs to Allaah (alone), and that it not for anyone to seek intercession from other than Allaah– from one who has passed away and whose actions have ceased to exist- then it becomes established that seeking intercession and asking the dead people besides Allaah is shirk.  And the happiest people who will receive the intercession of Al-Mustapha [the Chosen One (i.e. the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)] are the people who single out Allaah in worship and are free from all types of shirk, and they are those who are sincere to their (utterance) of the statement Laa-ilaaha-Ilal-laah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah). [Source: al-Mindhaar Fee Bayaani katheer Minal Akhtaa Ash-shaa-i-a by Shaikh Saaleh Aala Shaikh: page:10]

Inheritors, Cultivators And Destroyed Ones – [A Statement of Wisdom Regarding The Deviant Sects]

Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr [hafidha-hullaah] was asked whether the sects that existed in the past such as the Mutizilah, Jahmiyyah and others are present today; so he said, “The scholars state in their books about the sects: [لِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ وَارِث وَلِكُلِّ أَرْضٍ حَارِث وَلِكُلِّ ضَرٍّ هَالِك -Every people have their inheritors, every earth has a cultivator and every evil has one destroyed by it.” This is enough an answer [i.e. the contemporary sects are from the ancient ones]”. [Source: Sharh Aqeedah Al-Waasitiyyah: lesson:9]

Scholarly Observations On Some Groups, Organisations And Figureheads of Bidah

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated: Indeed, from the most severe of afflictions and trials upon Islaam and the Muslims in this era, is the appearance of a group claiming to be upon the methodology of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa-ah, but unfortunately this group does not act except in opposition to this methodology and its people- openly at times and behind veils at other times.

And indeed this group has placed a heavy burden upon its shoulders, and that is its defence of the people of innovation and misguidance.  They author books in this regard and decorate statements for it; and they spread such defence in the world under the slogan of justice and equity or the methodology of Al-Muwaazanah. [Ref A]

They exceed the limits in the affair of Fiqul Waaqi [knowledge of current affairs] and speak ill of the scholars of the salafi methodology as a result of that [Ref B]; rather they degrade the methodology of the scholars as a result of this and increase in ill speech against the salafi methodology and its people. The effects of justice and equity are neither seen in their arguments against the people of the salafi methodology nor in their praises and exaltations for the people of innovation.

Alongside concealing themselves with the Salafi Methodology, they are not seen to give it importance except with respect to what they utilize to deceive those deceived by them, or (what they utilize as) garments of salafiyyah in order to bring the people to their corrupt partisan organization, (and in order) to kill their love for the Salafi Methodology, the call to it, defence of it, and traversing upon the methodology of the pious predecessors with the (correct) loyalty and disownment and being warned against the people of innovation.

So they divert a great deal of people from the true methodology and the truthful alliance for it, and (direct them) towards that passionate alliance to the people of innovation and defence of them, their innovations and falsehoods, or playing down their innovations to the extent that it leads them to the station of the extreme murji-a with regards to their views towards the major innovations and great affairs of opposition to the true religion of Allaah.

And due to this, hatred has occurred from them towards the carriers of the Sunnah and the salafi methodology; and they set up those who present their mistakes which have neither been criticized by a Sunni nor an innovator from amongst those who ascribe themselves to Islaam. They present these mistakes as mighty affairs of blunder and destruction; rather they make the virtues and merits of ahlus Sunnah to be repugnant and disdainful in addition to much fabrication and accusation.

So with these disgraceful deeds they perpetrate, they are from the severest in war against the salafi methodology and its people; the severest in their opposition to the salafi methodology and its people; the most intense in their defence of the groups of innovation and trials.  They have authorships in this regard and from them: The many authorships of Abdur-Rahmaan Abdul Khaaliq who carries the responsibility of this destructive orientation. [source: Bayaanu Fasaadul Mi’yaar; Hiwaar ma-a hizbiy mutasattir; page: 5-6]

Shaikh Saaleh Aala Ash-Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] said: As for Ikhwaan Al-Muslimeen, from that which is the most manifestly evident of dawah with them is that they conceal, disguise, change colours and get close to the one they believe will benefit them and not making known their true reality. The reality of the affair is hidden and amongst them is one who mingles with some of the scholars and the mashaa-yikh for a long time and he (the scholar or shaikh) knows not their reality. He makes manifest a statement but hides the opposite; he does not say all that he has with him. [Al-Fataawaa Al-Muhimmah Fee Tabseeril Ummah: page:180]

Shaikh Saaleh Aala Ash-Shaikh also said:  They warn against those who refute them [i.e. without justification]. If they see an individual amongst the people who knows about their methodology and path and begin to refute them, and warns the youth from affiliation to repugnant partisanship, they begin to warn against him through different ways; sometimes accusing him, sometimes telling lies about him and sometimes charging him with things he is free from, whilst knowing that to be a lie. Sometimes they pursue his mistakes and vilify him; and they inflate that so as to prevent the people from following truth and guidance. [Al-Fataawaa Al-Muhimmah Fee Tabseeril Ummah: page:181]

Sayyid Qutb

 Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: ”He (i.e. Sayyid Qutub) is lost (with regards to) Tafseer.” [1]

Imaam Albaani (rahimahullaah) said: ”He (i.e. Sayyid Qutub) does not possess an understanding of Islaam based on its (sound) fundamental principles and subsidiary issues.” [2]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said: ”Shaikh Abdullaah Duwaish and Shaikh Rabee have observations on Sayyid Qutb’s Tafseer, so whoever wants to refer to (those observations) can do so.” [3]

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Luhaydaan (may Allaah preserve him) said: ”The books of Sayyid Qutb are filled with affairs that are in opposition to (sound) Islamic Creed.” [4]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi (may Allaah preserve him) stated after mentioning a few books of sayyid Qutub: ”They gather the major innovations in them.” [5]

Those Who Embarked Upon The Stratagem of The Khawaarij, The Rawaafid, the Mutazilah And Jahmiyyah – [Sayyid Qutb And His Ilk]

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said:

The political parties [or groups] emerged in this era [whilst] affected- to some extent- by the creed and methodologies of [the khawaarij]. And for this reason they do not give importance to [other affairs] besides politics. Neither do they give any concern to rectifying the situation of the Ummah though [sound] Creed and Knowledge nor do reflect upon [the affair about] returning the Ummah to the Book, the [authentic] Sunnah, and the piety and steadfastness the Salafus Saaleh were upon in every aspect of the Religion. Rather they [i.e. these political parties (or groups)] increase the Ummah in corruption upon corruption-in creed and manners. So, you see them giving allegiance to the people of Bidah and Misguidance; waging war against the people who [truly] follow the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, and the scholars [i.e. waging war against those scholars who truly adhere to the Qur’aan and the Sunnah].

They erect false objectives and  slogans for Ahlul Bidah Wad-Dalaalah [the people of Bidah and Misguidance] and their books; and amongst them [i.e. these people of bidah] are Sayyid Qutb and his followers – the one [i.e. Sayyid Qutub] who embark upon the stratagem of the Khawaarij, the Rawaafid, the Mu’tazilah and the Jahmiyyah in creed, methodology and politics; especially in the subject matter of Takfeer based on oppression and ignorance [i.e. he make Takfeer based on ignorance and oppression]. According to him all human societies are societies of Pre-Islamic ignorance and the Muslim Ummah is the severest in its apostasy and Pre-Islamic state of ignorance. Thereafter, the path of the Baatiniyyah was added to this [methodology of his, such] as assassinations, blowing up [buildings, people etc]. Then his followers attribute themselves to the Salafi Methodology based on a mighty plot against the [true, upright] leaders [of the Salafi Methodology].

[Therefore], when you come to know this, you will know that the Salafi Methodology is free from this [type] of Takfeer, and destruction; and you will know who the treacherous people are. If you know this, then it is tantamount to an act of manifest oppression when the Raafidah, the Secularists and Rationalists attribute [terrorist acts], [false] Takfeer and destruction to the Salafi Methodology. Is It Necessary to Mention The Names of The Deviants When Refuting?!

Question to Al-‘Allâmah Ahmad bin Yahyā An-Najmī (rahimahullaah): This question states: What is your view of the one who warns against bid’ah and innovators in general but does not hold that names are to be mentioned?

Answer: When something happened the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) used to say: “What is wrong with a people (who did or say such and such)?! This is correct; but is this said about the leaders of misguidance – those who call the people to affairs of misguidance and the people are put to trial through them; is this said about them? No, these ones must be mentioned; they must be made known and they must be known, so that the people are cautious about them. As for us keeping quiet about them and saying: “No, we do not mention their names; we neither say Sayyid Qutb nor Hasan al-Banna, neither such and such person nor such and such person”; then with respect to the one who utters this statement, for example: If we were to warn against the people of bid’ah, who will be able to say that it is other than these people….these (people) are the leaders of ahlul bid’ah.

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] said: The principle related to this [i.e. mentioning names] is about warning against mistakes and deviation, after identifying it as such. If the affair requires making known the name of an individual among the obstinate opponents so that beguilement does not occur through their [affair] – especially those individuals with deviated views or deviation in behavior and methodology, and they are well known among the people and the people have a good opinion of them- then there is no harm in mentioning them by their names and their methodology warned against.

The scholars carry out research in the science of Jarh Wat-Tadeel [criticism and praise] and then mention the narrators and the reproach stated against them. This is not [done] for the purpose of personal [criticism]; rather it is [done] for the purpose to giving advice to the Ummah in case they come across affairs from these individuals that are harmful to the Religion or lies against the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam].

Therefore, first and foremost, this principle is about warning against mistakes. However, the one who committed such mistake(s) is not to be mentioned if that would either lead to greater harm or if there is no benefit in mentioning him. However, if the affair requires that his name be made known for the purpose of warning the people against his methodology, then this is [considered] to be sincerity to Allaah, His Book, His Messenger, to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk, especially if he [i.e. the one warned against] is active within the people and they have a good opinion of him, and acquire his books and tapes. Then there has to be clarification and the people must be warned, because [employing] silence will be harmful to the people. His affair has to be unveiled, but not for the purpose of defamation or following one’s desires [in that]; rather it has to be [done] for the purpose of sincerity to Allaah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and their common people. Ibnul Qaasim [rahimahullaah] said: I heard Maalik [i.e. Imaam Maalik (rahimahullaah)] saying: “Indeed a people sought after the path of worship and abandoned knowledge, so they rebelled against the Ummah of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] with their swords [i.e. khawaarij]. And had they sought the means to [acquiring] knowledge [first], they would have been prevented from that [rebellion]”. [Miftaah Daarus Sa’aadah 1/392]
