A Precise Principle Related to ‘Khawaarim Al-Muroo’ah’ [i.e. Behaviour or Conduct That Is Tantamount to Violating One’s Sense of Honour]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Saaleh Aala Ash-Shaikh [hafidhahullaah] said:

Excerpt:

Khawaarim Al-Muraa’ah differs based on the place and era people are living in; for example, you find that some of the Ahlul Hadeeth censured such and such person because he once saw him eating in the market place and then said, ‘’Eating in the market place [يخرم المروءة  – i.e. it violates one’s sense of honour or it is something unbefiting]- meaning: he is seen in the street -in the presence of the people- eating; or similar to eating in restaurants nowadays. This -in their view-was tantamount to Khawaarim Al-Muroo’ah. However, nowadays [or in this era] the situation is different, for indeed a person may be in need of these things and it is not considered to be Khawaarim Al-Muroo’ah. Therefore, Khawaarim Al-Muroo’ah differs based on the era and place. So, if this deed [or affair] is not done by those regarded to be possessors of Muroo’ah [sense of honour], then whoever does so is censured and his deed is considered to be [خارما من خوارم المروءة  – i.e. one of those deeds that violates one’s sense of honour], and the upright amongst the people are those who avoid the Khawaarim Al-Muroo’ah.  [Paraphrased]

Say Only Those Words that are the Best – An Excerpt From a Contemplative Khutbah – Shaykh Abdur Razzaaq al Badr

An Excellent Khutbah based upon the following Ayah in which Allah says:

“And say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islamic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are the best. (Because) Shaitan (Satan) verily, sows disagreements among them. Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.” [Surah Al-Israa. Ayah 53]

Excerpt

How many – O slaves of Allaah- enmities and wars broke out due to one evil statement, and how much love, brotherhood and [amicability, hospitality, cordiality etc] spread between the slaves due to one good statement!

The Great Benefit Received By Those Who Begin The Day and Reach The Evening Whilst Their Foremost Concern Is to Seek The Pleasure of Allaah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

If a person begins the day and reaches the evening, whilst his [foremost] concern is [to obey or seek the pleasure of Allaah], Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] will fulfil all his needs, take care of everything that worries him, [free his heart from other things and busy it with] love of Allaah, [preoccupy] his tongue with remembrance of Allaah and His limbs with acts of obedience to Allaah.

And if he begins the day and reaches the evening whilst his [foremost] concern is the worldly life, Allaah will make him carry the displeasure of his worries and griefs, leave him to himself, preoccupy his heart with love of the creation instead of love of Allaah, [preoccupy] his tongue with remembrance of the people instead of remembrance of Allaah, [preoccupy] his limbs with obedience to [people] by  serving them and being busy in their service, instead of being obedient to Allaah; so he toils in their service just like the bellows that blows and squeezes for the benefit of others. Everyone who turns away from servitude to Allaah, obedience to Allaah and love of Allaah, he will be afflicted with servitude to a created thing, love of it and serving it. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [ وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُ شَيْطَانًا فَهُوَ لَهُ قَرِينٌ– And whosoever turns away [blinds himself] from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent [Allaah], We appoint for him Shaitan [Satan – devil] to be a Qareen [an intimate companion] to him. [Surah Az-Zukhruf. Aayah 36]

Seeking After Noble Characteristics Necessitates That One Diverts His Attention From The Possessions of The People – [A Short Faa’idah From Shaikh Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

It is an aspect of having a high aspiration to [acquire noble characteristics, dignity etc] that a person does not place his eyes on what is in the hands of the people [i.e. he is not coveteous]. Some of the people have a certain [manner] of asking for wealth: If he finds something he likes in the possession of [another] person, he gets hold of it in his hand and starts moving it about, saying: “How nice [or beautiful] this is!” “MaaShaaAllaah!” “Where did you buy it?” “Can it be found in the market.” The reason behind] all this is so that it is given to him, for indeed the generous person might become shy and say: “Indeed, he [i.e. the person asking this question] did not ask, except so that I say, “Take it.”

This person – the one who places his eyes [on other people’s possessions] or asks indirectly – lowers the status of the student of knowledge and that of others.

Replying to Non-Muslims When They Greet Us Saying, ‘Assalaamu Alaykum’ – [By Shaikh Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower
If the non-Muslims give us salaam, we return the [salaam] because Allaah [The Most High] said: When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally.  [Surah An-Nisaa’ Aayah 86]
So, if they [i.e. non-muslims] say: ‘Assalaamu alaykum [i.e. peace be upon you]’, we say clearly ‘Alaykumus salaam’ [i.e. peace be upon you], because [Allaah] states in the Aayah [i.e. Aayah 86 Surah An-Nisaa]:  Greet in return with what is better than it, or [at least] return it equally.  The only [reason] the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded us to say ‘Wa alaykum’ [i.e. ‘And upon you’ without the word Salaam] is because they [i.e. some of the yahood in Madeenah used to say to the Muslims out of hatred], ‘As-Saam Alaykum [i.e. death be upon you] as occurs in the hadeeth narrated by Abdullaah Ibn Umar: “Indeed, when the Yahood give you salaam, they say, As-saam ‘alaykum [i.e. death be upon you]; so say, ‘Wa alaykum’ [i.e. And upon you].

Pathetic Time Wasters on Twitter – [Doubt-Mongers, Rumour-mongers, Guessers etc] – Are Not to Be Entertained

Imaam Maalik [rahimahullaah]:

O, would that I knew! By way of which intellect should the [evidences in the] Qur’aan and Sunnah be determined? Is it that whenever a man who can argue better than another man comes to us we take his statement and abandon the Qur’aan and the Sunnah because of him? [i.e. abandon what is already established by way of sound and unambiguous proofs and take the statement of that person]

A Brief Reminder Regarding The Internet

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Question to Shaikh Firkoos [may Allaah preserve him]:

It is permissible to install the internet in one’s house?

The Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] stated: The internet is from those Wasaa’il [i.e. means] that take the same ruling as their aims. And its distinction from the television is that it is controlled based on choice, with the possibility of using a program that can prevent one from accessing sites of corruption and that which corrupts [people]. The internet is not like television because TV programs are imposed and based on a deliberate action plan- and the entire program is not without a call to debauchery, moral decadence and evil manners; [وَاللهُ لاَ يُحِبُّ الفَسَادَ – And Allaah does not like corruption]. [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 205]

Therefore, the means leading to the best aim is the best means, and the most repugnant aim is connected to the most repugnant means, and there is that which is in between the two. And what remains regarding this affair is the strength of a person’s Eemaan, steadfastness and truthful determination. So, if he is strong in utilising the internet in good, then it is good; but if he fears for the weakness of his Eemaan and [fears] falling into that which Allaah is not pleased with, then he leaves it for the sake of Allaah. [وَمَنْ تَرَكَ شَيْئًا للهِ عَوَّضَهُ اللهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهُ -whoever abandons something for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will replace it for him with something better]. [Abridged and paraphrased. Seek After Lawful Earnings And Do Not Spill Even a Handful of Blood – [Jundub Advised The People]

The people said to Jundub [radiyallaahu-anhu], “Advise us.” He said: “The first thing of the human body to putrefy is the abdomen, so he who can eat nothing but good food [halaal and earned lawfully] should do so, and he who does as much as he can that nothing intervenes between him and paradise by not shedding even a handful of blood [i.e. unlawful killing], should do so.”
