Sometimes attracted towards vying for precedence in honour and leadership; captivated [or enthralled] by the one who praises him even with falsehood; shows enmity to the one who censures him even with truth; sometimes captivated [or enthralled] by Dirham and Deenaar [i.e. wealth, money]. [Source: Al-Uboodiyyah’ by Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah). page 168]

We seek Allaah’s Protection from this evil state of affairs. Aameen
