[20] Some Extraordinary Personalities of The First Three Generations

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Nadr bin Shameel, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

I have not seen anyone more compassionate to the needy than Shu’bah, may Allah have mercy upon him. Whenever he saw a needy person, he would not stop looking at him until he disappeared from his sight.

Hilyatul Awliya: 7/146

Yahyah Al-Qattaan, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Shu’bah, may Allah have mercy upon him, used to be among the most soft-hearted people. He used to give beggars whatever he could.

Siyar A’laam an-Nubulaa: 7/211

Abu Dawud at-Tayaalisee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Once we were with Shu’bah, may Allah have mercy upon him. Then Sulayman Ibn Al-Mugheerah, may Allah have mercy upon him, came along while weeping.

Shu’bah said to him, “What makes you weep, O father of Saeed?” He said, “My donkey died; I missed the Jumu’ah prayer and my needs.”

He (Shu’bah) said, “How much did you buy it for?” He said, “Three Deenaars.”

He (Shu’bah) said, “I have three Deenaars. By Allah, I do not have anything other than them. O boy! Bring that scrap (of cloth).” Inside it were three Deenaars. He gave it to him (i.e. to Sulayman) and said, “Buy a donkey and do not weep.”
