Ruling on the statement of a person: “Yaa Rasulal lah”

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Question: A Muslim testifies that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,  is the Messenger of Allah, but when standing up or sitting down, he says, “Yaa Rasulal lah -O Messenger of Allah!” or “Yaa Abal Qasim – O Abu Qasim!” or “Yaa Abdal Qaadir- O Abdul Qadir!” or what similar to these statements related to Al-Isti’anah [i.e. seeking aid and assistance]. What is the ruling on this?

Answer: A person calling [i.e. invoking] the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, or other than him, such as Abdul Qadir Al-Jaylaani or Ahmad at-Tijaani,  when standing up or sitting down, and seeking assistance in that [action], or what is similar to this, in order to receive a benefit or repel harm- is a type of Shirk Akbar that was widespread during the pre-Islamic era of ignorance. Allah sent His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to put an end to it, save the people from it, guide the people to single out Allah in worship and supplication. This is because Al-Isti’aanah [seeking aid and assistance] is an act of worship and whoever performs it for other than Allah is a Mushrik. [Footnote a]

Allah directed and taught His slaves to say:

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything). [1:5]

Allah said:

And the mosques are for Allah (Alone), so invoke not anyone along with Allah]. [72:18]

Allah clarified that He (alone) controls harm and benefit; He alone removes harm and bestows blessings; He alone is the one who bestows good upon His slaves and preserves it for them. None can withold what Allaah gives and none can bestow that which Allah withholds. None can prevent what He has decreed and He is able to do all things. Allah said:

And invoke not besides Allah, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you, but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers). ” And if Allah touches you with hurt, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favour which He causes it to reach whomsoever of His slaves He will. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [10:106-107]

Allah said:

He merges the night into the day (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the night are added to the hours of the day), and He merges the day into the night (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the day are added to the hours of the night). And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each runs its course for a term appointed. Such is Allah your Lord; His is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmir (the thin membrane over the date-stone). If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them.  And none can inform you (O Muhammad) like Him Who is the All-Knower (of each and everything). [35:13-14]

Allah said:

And who is more astray than one who calls (invokes) besides Allah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are (even) unaware of their calls (invocations) to them? And when mankind are gathered (on the Day of Resurrection), they (false deities) will become enemies for them and will deny their worshipping. [46:5-6]

Allah said:

And whoever invokes (or worships), besides Allah, any other ilah (god), of whom he has no proof, then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely! Al-Kafirun (the disbelievers in Allah and in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, pagans, idolaters, etc.) will not be successful. [23:117]

In these verses, Allah stated that it is disbelief and polytheism to invoke others besides Him. He informed (us) that there is none more astray than the one who invokes others besides Him.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father:

وإذا سألت فاسأل الله، وإذا استعنت فاستعن بالله

If you ask (i.e. supplicate), then ask Allah. And if you seek help, seek help from Allaah. [Sahih Al-Jami 7957]

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, also said:

الدعاء هو العبادة

Supplication is the core of worship. [Sahih Al-Jami 3407]

Short temper vanished after discovering these incredible promises and extraordinary women

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense, etc.), the Day when man shall remember what he strove for, and Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees, then, for him who Tagha (transgressed all bounds, in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allah). And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts), verily, his abode will be Hell-fire; but as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts, then verily, Paradise will be his abode. [An-Nazi’at. 34-41]

Imam Al-Ajurri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

It is obligated to the one who hears this from Allah to be more careful or cautious about his Nafs than an enemy who wishes to murder him, take his wealth, or violate his honour. If someone asks, “Why do you obligate this precaution on me regarding the Nafs until you put it in a circumstance more dangerous than an enemy whose enmity is unquestionably very manifest?” It should be said to him, “The enemy who wants to harm you, take your wealth, or violate your honour, if they succeed in doing so, Allah will forgive some of your sins and elevate you. (footnote a) However, this will not be the case with the Nafs because if the Nafs dominates you through what you desire—that which you have been forbidden—then you will face ruin in this world and the next, humiliation and terrible punishment in this world and evil in the Sight of Allah”. (footnote b)

As a result, the sensible person – may Allah have mercy on him (or her)- imposes or obligates caution to the Nafs and strives against it in a more severe manner than striving against an enemy who wants to take their wealth and life – strives against the Nafs both in times of anger and happiness. This is how our prophet disciplined us in many ahadith, saying: “The Mujahid is the one who strives against his Nafs in devotion to Allah – The Mighty and Majestic”. [1]

Angels Constantly Supplicate to Allah to Enter Believers and Their Spouses in Jannah

Allah said:

Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allah) and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah) (saying): “Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and save them from the torment of the blazing Fire! Our Lord! And make them enter the ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens) which you have promised them, and to the righteous among their fathers, their wives, and their offspring! Verily, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise”. [Ghaafir. 7-8]

Allah said:

The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend. But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of the happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and in this world of a high moral character). [Fussilat 34-35]

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, “Whoever suppresses their anger while having the ability to act upon it, Allah, the Exalted, will call them forth in the midst of all the creation on the Day of Resurrection, allowing them to choose from the Hur Al Ayn (of paradise) as they wish”. [2]

The Men and Women of Jannah

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “The first batch (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like a full moon; and those who will enter next will be (glittering) like the brightest star. Their hearts will be as if the heart of a single man, for they will have no enmity amongst themselves, and everyone of them shall have two wives, each of whom will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the flesh. They will be glorifying Allah in the morning and evening, and will never fall ill, and they will neither blow their noses, nor spit. Their utensils will be of gold and silver, and their combs will be of gold, and the fuel used in their centers will be the aloeswood, and their sweat will smell like musk.” [3]

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,  said: “If one of the women of Paradise looked at the earth, she would fill the whole space between them (the earth and the heaven) with light, and would fill whatever is in between them, with perfume, and the veil of her face is better than the whole world and whatever is in it.”[4]

Abu Umamah, may Allah be pleased with him, stated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was asked if the people of Paradise will have sexual relations, so he replied, “Yes, with a manhood that does not get tired and a desire that does not cease – one sexual climax after another one”. [5]

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, stated that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “When the believer desires a child in Paradise, he shall be carried (in pregnancy), born, and complete his aging in an hour as he desires.” [6]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

The reason behind the description of the women of Paradise is so that one is made eager to perform righteous deeds. The beauty of the Hur Al-Ayn (the fair females with wide lovely eyes in Jannah) is neither viewed from one perspective nor is any mind able to comprehend it. Those fair females with wide lovely eyes combine between beauty in their physical form, beauty in all other traits and good manners.

One is amazed by their beauty whenever he glances at them because their beauty is always renewed. They have that glitter in their smile for their husbands, which has no similarity in this worldly life, then what does one think if he were to kiss them and taste the enjoyment from that kiss? Sexual intercourse in this worldly life becomes tiresome and leads to weakness after some time as opposed to sexual intercourse with the women of paradise, because sexual intercourse with the women of Paradise makes a person more lively and active. A man’s wife in Paradise will neither be bored nor tired. Similarly, the virginity of the women of Paradise will not be lost permanently like the virginity of the women of this worldly life, instead whenever the women of Paradise are disvirgined, their virginities are renewed and the man’s reproductive organ is always erected [i.e. during sexual intercourse]. The men of paradise are given the strength of a hundred men put together, thus, whoever preserves his private parts, guards his eye sight and his hearing from the forbidden, he will be from the people with the most strength in Paradise and he will receive the most enjoyment in sexual intercourse. Similarly, sometimes argumentation, differing and trouble occurs between married couples leading to divorce; however none of this will take place between the spouses in Paradise. [7]

We ask Allah:

O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquility, etc.) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of Iman, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others). [8]

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [9]

Footnote a: The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Indeed, the bankrupt one of my Ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer, fasting and Zakah (in his account), but he comes along having abused this one, slandered that one, unlawfully took the wealth of this one and shed the blood of that one, and beaten that one. So this one will be given from his good deeds, and that one will be given from his good deeds. And if his good deeds finishes before the judgment is made on him, some of their sins(i.e. the ones he wronged) will be taken and cast onto him, then he will be thrown into the Fire.” [10]

Footnote b: Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: The sinners [i.e. those who die whilst committing sins lesser than shirk] are under the will of Allah- if Allah wishes, He will either punish them or forgive them straight away or He enters them into hell for some time and paradise thereafter, just as Allah said:

[إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغۡفِرُ أَن يُشۡرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغۡفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٲلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ‌ۚ – Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases]. [An-Nisaa.48] [11]

Reflections on some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali [45 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Many people humble themselves to one another more than they humble themselves to Allah – The Most High, The Most Great. It is neither permissible for a person to be a slave except to Allah, (i.e. not to be subservient to anyone in a manner that only Allah deserves) nor humble himself except to the Greatness of Allah. Allah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:

He is Allah besides Whom none has the right to be worshipped but He; the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allaah! [High is He] above all that they associate as partners with Him. He is Allaah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the Best Names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. [Surah Al-Hashar’ Ayaat 23-24]

Examine those Ayaat in the last part of Surah Al-Hashar! The statement:

He is Allah besides Whom none has the right to be worshipped but He)]: This necessitates Tawheed Al-Uluhiyyah [The Oneness as the only one Who has the right to be worshipped].

The statement:

He is Allah, besides Whom none has the right to be worshipped but He, the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen (open). He is the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful]: This necessitates Tawheed Al-Asmaa Was Sifaat [The Oneness of Allah in His Names and Attributes.

The statement:

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms]. This necessitates Tawheed Ar-Roboobiyyah [The Oneness of Allah in His Lordship].
These few Ayaat in the last part of Surah Al-Hashr necessitate all the categories of Tawheed [Pure Islamic Monotheism]. [1]

Imam Ash-Shawkaanee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

The love for high status and wealth often leads to the abandonment of fairness, which in turn distances individuals from the truth. This abandonment further results in the concealment of truth and the failure to clarify what Allah has obligated. The two aforementioned matters are a greater enemy to an individual than a pair of hunting wolves, [Footnote a] as stated by Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] because it was the reason that led the people of the scripture to distort Allah’s Books and hide the clear evidences and guidance that were revealed to them, such as what happened to the Jewish Rabbis (i.e. those who deviated after the advents of their Prophets). Allah, in His Mighty Book, and the Messenger, through authentic narrations, have both informed us about this.

The Imam also stated:

We often see a man who holds a belief that aligns with truth and correctness. However, when he speaks to someone who disagrees with him- one who is inclined towards something of the innovated matters in the religion, and especially if that person holds a position of leadership or worldly wealth, not to mention a king, he agrees with him, strengthens, supports and aids him against others.

The least in such circumstances is that he would hide what he believes is the truth and show contempt – in the presence of a person from whom it is neither possible to receive harm nor benefit – towards what has become clear to him is the right thing, so, what about someone from whom harm and benefit are possible? This behavior is essentially prioritizing worldly things and the life of this world over the religion and the afterlife. If he observed and reflected upon what has happened to him, he would have realised that his inclination toward the (vain) desires of a man, two men, three or more individuals – among those he compliments within that gathering, conceals the truth to be in agreement with them and to gain affection, acquire their possessions, and avoid being isolated by them -is a deficiency in upholding the truth and tantamount to exalting falsehood. If it were not for the fact that these individuals hold a higher position in his eyes than the Lord, he would not have been inclined to their (vain) desires and abandoned what he knows to be what Allah wants and demands from His servants. [2]

Footnote a: Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep are not more harmful than a person’s craving after wealth and status is to his Religion”. [3]

Imam Muhamad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “Two hungry wolves let loose on a flock -then what will remain from the flock?! Even when a single wolf stops eating because its stomach is full, it still kills the rest of the flock; then what about two hungry wolves let loose on a flock!! Not a single will remain. Likewise, a person who craves wealth or status will corrupt the religion and because of this, it is obligated to a person that his intention is far removed from this- far removed from craving wealth and status in the religion. We ask Allah to aid us to accomplish this”. [4]

We ask Allah:

O Allah, I ask you for your love and the love of those who love you and the deeds that will bring me your love.

Bid’ee Haqiqatjou, mocking upright scholars is a trait of Jahiliyyah!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

They (People of the era Al-Jahiliyyah) accused the people of the religion of having little understanding and poor Memory.  They utilised this argument to determine the falsity of a religion that the people who followed it had little understanding and poor memory, as Allah said that they said:  [ بَادِىَ ٱلرَّأۡىِ – And they (too) followed you without thinking]. [Hud 27]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, commented:

Regarding what Allah has stated about the people of Nuh and their saying: “And they (i..e believers) (also) followed you (Nuh) without thinking”- Meaning, the weak ones followed you without thinking, those who possess no understanding. They reviled the followers of the Messengers that they possess neither understanding nor are they well versed in the affairs; and (that) nor do they possess far-sightedness.  This is what many among those who have strayed from the right path and the enemies of Allah brag about today.  They make fun of the Muslims and their scholars, that they neither possess understanding nor far-sightedness.  They seek to diminish the (status of the) scholars with this calumny despite the fact that the scholars of the Muslims are people of clear sightedness and cognizance because they examine (matters) based on Allah’s guidance, command what Allah has commanded and forbid what Allah has forbidden.

Therefore, none diminishes (the status of the) scholars and accuses them of short-sightedness and lack of understanding, except one who shares similarities with the people of Jahiliyyah [Footnote a] and the people of Nuh – those who described the followers of the Messengers with this description, in order to drive the people away from them. This is uttered from the tongues of some of the people today.  They say, “These scholars are Ulamaa Hayd Wa Nifaas [i.e. scholars whose knowledge is limited to the rulings pertaining menstruation and post-natal bleeding], Ulamaa Ahkam Al-Istijmar [i.e. scholars whose knowledge is limited to issues pertaining to Istijmaar (i.e. rulings regarding the use of dry objects such as stones, tissue etc, to clean oneself after using the toilet)], Ulamaa Juz’iyyat [i.e. scholars whose knowledge is restricted to some affairs], and that they do not possess knowledge of current affairs”. [Footnote b] The knowledge of current affairs is the subject matter of politics and revolt against the Muslim rulers. [Footnote c] [1]

——————————————

Footnote a: Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “The most hated people to Allah are three: a person who deviates from right conduct sanctuaries of Makkah and Madinah; a person who seeks that the traditions of the pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance should remain in Islam and a person who seeks to shed somebody’s blood without any right”.

Al-Allamah Zayd Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

These three actions are major sins. The first major sin is to stray from good behaviour within the sacred sanctuaries of Makkah and Madinah. This deviation means to abandon the path of truth and embrace falsehood, and promoting falsehood to suppress the truth. Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, has censured those who engage in such misconduct within the sanctuaries of Makkah and Madinah, saying:

وَمَن يُرِدۡ فِيهِ بِإِلۡحَادِۭ بِظُلۡمٍ۬ نُّذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ۬

And whoever intends evil actions therein or to do wrong, We shall make him taste a painful torment. [Al-Hajj. 25]

Allah has promised them a severe punishment for their evil intentions therein, so what about committing such deeds?! It would indeed be a more severe sin, a more terrifying state, and a harsher punishment. This highlights the sanctity of Makkah and Madinah, chosen by Allah as sacred lands where virtuous acts of worship, like Hajj, are performed – a pillar of Islam. The virtues of these places are countless, with increased rewards for good deeds done there, and surpassing all other lands on earth in virtue.

The second major sin is committed by the individual who wants the practices of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance to remain within Islam, as if he prioritises the evil customs that were followed during that era over Islamic practices, Iman and Ihsan, their virtue and the virtue of the Prophet’s Sunnah. This act constitutes a major sin, as it involves favouring Bidah over the authentic Sunnah that leads to the right path.

The third major sin is shedding the blood of a Muslim without any right, especially when it is done out of oppression and animosity. Shedding the blood of a Muslim is a great crime as the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “The extinction of the entire world is less significant than killing a Muslim (without right)”. He stated regarding the rights of the Kabah, “Great you are and great is your sanctity, but the sanctity of a believer is greater than yours in the Sight of Allah”. Therefore, it is forbidden to transgress against Muslims, both male and female, in the sanctuaries of Makkah and Madinah, as well as in any other place, due to the severe consequences and punishment that follow. [2]

Footnote b: Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Some people say that someone who does not grasp current affairs is not a scholar, yet they forget what the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Whoever Allah wishes good for, He grants them understanding in the religion”. They lose sight of the reality that preoccupying oneself with current affairs distracts a person from understanding the religion and may even keep people from engaging in correct worship, which is to worship Allah alone while devoting one’s heart to Allah, contemplating Allah’s divine revelation (i.e. the Qur’an and the Sunnah) and His universal signs (i.e. the things He has created). In reality, preoccupying the youth with current affairs prevents them from understanding the religion Allah has ordained because the heart is a vessel that does not take another thing when it is filled with something else, thus, it is not possible to fill it with this and that. Being preoccupied with seeking understanding in the religion, fulfilling acts of worship, pure Islamic monotheism, and sincerity are the better to do for the individual than learning about current affairs and what such and such a person is about.

It is possible that one receives knowledge of current affairs through flimsy and fabricated media narrations, or bases knowledge of current affairs on the analysis and speculations of a person. The one engaged in the subject of current affairs may seek to establish an analysis that is far from what the current affairs are or they look into affairs that have been concocted for them by the enemies (regarding) a specific event, but this event turns out to be something else and does not exist at all, thus, all those plans come to naught.

Therefore, it is important that one learns what Islam expects of them- the understanding related to one’s self, rectification of the heart through sound belief and wishing good for the Muslims, and this is related to the understanding of halal, haram, and other affairs of a similar nature. (However), if necessary, one can acquire knowledge about current affairs; but when it comes to matters that haven’t actually happened yet, such as lies, deception, analysis, and speculation, attaching absolute emphasis to it has no foundation. The danger of mocking the scholars of Islam

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The one who mocks the scholars, students of knowledge, or female students of knowledge; if his intention is  to mock the religion, it constitutes disbelief. However, if one mocks a student of knowledge due to the tattered state of their clothing or a physical ailment, such as an illness or a disability, this mockery is an evil deed and not disbelief. It is an evil deed and a sin. As for if he mocks at an individual because of their religion (Islam) and because of their piety, this is mockery of religion—we seek refuge in Allah, and it becomes Riddah (apostasy from Islam) because he has mocked the religion. [Footnote a]

If he  belittles the religion, perceives it as deficient, and views its adherents as inferior, while considering those who ascribe to other than it as superior and more virtuous, this is tantamount to belittling the religion (or diminishing its worth). This is what carries mockery of Allah, His signs and Messenger. [1] [end of quote]

——————————
Footnote a: It is imperative to emphasise unequivocally that the sole individuals authorised to render a judgment of apostasy against a Muslim are the upright scholars of Islam, and no others. ISIS are called khawarij – Educating Maya Yang

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

Verily he lives long among you will see a lot of differing, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafaa ar-Rashideen [the rightly guided caliphs]. Adhere to it with your molar teeth (i.e. adhere to it firmly). And beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for every newly invented matter [in the religion] is a bidah [innovation in the religion], and every bidah is misguidance. [1]

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

The Jews divided into seventy-one sects, the Christians divided into seventy-two sects and this Ummah will divide into 73 sect. All of them are in the fire except one. So he was asked, “Who are they [i.e. the saved sect] O Messenger of Allaah?” He said, “Those upon that which I and my companions are upon”. [Footnote a]

Hafs Bin Humaid, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: I said to Abdullah Ibn Al-Mubaarak, may Allah have mercy upon him, “How many sects have this Ummah spilt into?’ He said, “The foundation of the sects are four: the Shia, the Harooriyyah (i.e. khawarij), the Qadariyyah, and the Murji’ah. The Shia split into twenty-two sects, Harooriyyah split into twenty-one sects, the Qadariyyah split into sixteen sects, and the Murji’ah split into thirteen sects”. [2]

After Maya [Footnote b] realises that the term Sunni carries significant weight and that one’s affiliation with it is not taken lightly—especially when it comes to understanding deviant sects and their deviations—we will include a precise statement from Imam Al-Barbahari along with a brief commentary from Al-Allamah Salih al-Fawzan to shed more light on this topic. Additionally, we will provide insights from Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali for further clarification. Imam Barbahaaree [329AH], may Allah have mercy upon him said:

It is not permitted for a man to say, “So and so is a person of the sunnah” until he knows that he combines the characteristics of the Sunnah, so it is not said of him, “a person of the Sunnah” until he combines all the Sunnah.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, commented on the above statement as follows:

Do not give recommended to a person and a praise of him, except based on knowledge, lest the people become deceived by your praise of him, while he is not what (you have stated about him).  So, when his real affair and path is clear to you, his knowledge and steadfastness, you can give him recommendation. As for giving out praise and recommendation whilst not knowing of anything about him, this is a dangerous recommendation through which the people will be deceived by this person. Had only those who give commendations to the people stopped at that (i.e. put it in its proper place), they would not give recommendation, except for one who fulfils the conditions of (receiving) recommendation because recommendation is a witness, thus, if the recommendation is not correct it will be a false witness. And regarding the statement of Imaam Al-Barbahaaree: “until he knows that he combines the characteristics of the Sunnah”. The characteristics of the Sunnah are to be in creed, knowledge and adherence to the (path) of the pious predecessors. But if there is not in him except a single characteristic of the (sunnah), he is not judged to be from Ahlus Sunnah on the basis of a single characteristic or one thing, then what about the one who does not have anything from that? [3]

Al-Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali, may Allah preserve him, was asked: The questioner says: We request a comment from you on this statement: “Indeed both Sunnah and Bidah may be gathered in a man, thus, if the Sunnah is predominant in him, he is a Sunni Salafi. And if bidah is predominant in him, he is an innovator, a misguided one”. Benefit us (i.e. with a comment) and may Allah reward you.

Response: This (statement) is from the [مغالطات-i.e. those misleading statements or affairs that are brought forth for the purpose of deception or sophistry]. There is no doubt that the one in whom Bidah is predominant is an innovator in religious matters, but it is not a condition, for example, that he has thirty (matters) of bidah with him and twenty (matters) of Sunnah, because he may have one bidah with him and thus declared an innovator in religioys matters. Rather the verdict of disbelief may be passed against him. [Footnote c] Because if he adheres to all the Sunnah, but then he says, “Indeed the Qur’an is created”, do we say that the Sunnah is predominant in this (person)? The Salaf (pious predecessors) declared (people) disbelievers due this because the Qur’an is the Speech of Allah and not created. The Salaf held a consensus regarding this. If he says, “I am a Sunni and the Qur’an is created”, we say: ”You are an innovator in religion, a misguided one, rather this innovation of yours is tantamount to disbelief.  Either you recant or else you are a disbeliever.”  We clarify the truth for him and unless he recants, otherwise he is a disbeliever. He rejects the Ruyah (i.e. he rejects the fact that the believers will see Allah on the day of judgement) and says: “I am a Sunni in everything except in this, for I do not believe that Allah will be seen in the Afterlife.” This one (i.e. the person who says this) has belied the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

This principle (i.e. that a person is a Sunni Salafi or an innovator depending whether the Sunnah or Bidah is predominant in him) is false; and how many with a single bidah – among the major bidah- were declared innovators by the Salaf?! Jad Ibn Dirham had two innovations- negation of the attributes of Allah and the statement (i.e. the belief) that the Qur’an is created, whilst he used to pray, observe fasting and worshipped Allah. And how many of Ahlul bidah and the Ubbaad (those dedicated to worship) have numerous (practices) of Sunnah, but alongside this he is an innovator!

Therefore, it is obligated to the Sunni to be solely dedicated to the truth and that his religion (Creed, Methodology and acts of worship) are pure and not stained by anything from the (matters) of bidah. However, if he falls into a Bidah khafiyyah (i.e. an innovation that is obscure or hard to detect), whilst he is desirous of the truth and seeking after it, then if the people were to inform him about it he would recant. So we do not pass the judgement of Tabdee against this person. If he had passed away we ask Allaah to forgive him and we do not pass the verdict of Tabdee against him. If he is alive, we advice him, and unless he accepts (the truth), we pass the verdict of Tabdee against him. [4]

The Shaikh also stated:

All sects of Ahlul Bidah gather truth and falsehood, deny the truth that is with the other sect of Bidah and believes in that which they possess of falsehood. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Allah says:

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ ءَامِنُواْ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُواْ نُؤۡمِنُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيۡنَا وَيَكۡفُرُونَ بِمَا وَرَآءَهُ ۥ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّ مُصَدِّقً۬ا لِّمَا مَعَهُمۡ

And when it is said to them (the Jews), “Believe in what Allah has sent down,” they say, “We believe in what was sent down to us.” And they disbelieve in that which came after it, while it is the truth confirming what is with them]. [Al-Baqarah 91]

The Shaikh also stated: As for the one who falls into an innovation, then he is of categories. he first category: Ahlul-Bid’ah such as the Rawāfid, the Khawārij, the Jahmiyyah, the Qadariyyah, the Mu’tazilah, the Grave-worshipping Sūfīs, the Murji’ah, and whoever is connected to them [in our times] such as al-Ikhwān, at-Tablīgh and those similar to them. For these innovations the Salaf did not make it a condition that the proof be established due to the fact that the ruling upon them is [in accordance to] the innovation. So regarding the Rāfidī, it is said about him, “Innovator (mubtadi’)”. As for the Khārijī, it is said about him, “Innovator”, and so on, regardless of whether the proof is established upon him or not. [5]

This above statement by Al-Allamah Rabee shows that the kahwaarij are Mubtadi’ah, outside the Sunnah and Sunniyyah, and it is well-known that groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda are offshoots of the Khawarij, thus, they have exited the Sunnah and Sunniyyah.

Reminded about the origin of one’s love for Iman

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

And know that, among you there is the Messenger of Allah. If he were to obey you (i.e. follow your opinions and desires) in much of the matter, you would surely be in trouble, but Allah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones, (This is) a Grace from Allah and His Favour. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. [Al-Hujurat. 7-8]

Your love for Iman, desire for it and its beautification in your hearts is not from yourselves; rather it is Allah who placed it in your hearts. He is the one who made it preferable and pleasing to you, thus, do not put yourself before Allah’s Messenger. Neither speak until he speaks nor act until he commands you. The one [Allah] who made you love Iman is the most knowledgeable concerning what is of benefit for His slaves than yourselves. And had it not been the Tawfeeq of Allah upon you, your souls would not have yielded to Iman. Iman would not have been (acquired) through your consultation and bestowed from yourselves, nor would you have given it precedence because your souls are unable, weak and cannot reach it.

Interactions Comparable to Nourishment, Medication, Ailments, and Ingesting Poison

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The first group is those whose companionship is akin to nourishment, essential for both morning and evening. One leaves it once their needs are fulfilled, and returns to it when in need. These people are those who know Allah, His commandments, the plots employed by His enemies, the diseases of the hearts, and the remedies to heal them. They are sincere to Allah, His Messenger, and His creation, and their company brings forth comprehensive benefits.

The second group is those whose companionship can be compared to vital medication needed during periods of illness. Thus, you do not need to intermingle with them as long as you are healthy. These are people one cannot do without when it comes to beneficial aspects of life, such as sustaining a livelihood, fulfilling various dealings, engaging in partnerships, seeking consultation, receiving medical aid, and so forth.

The third group is those whose companionship resembles various diseases, each with its level of severity and mildness. Within this group, there is one whose companionship is akin to a chronic illness. This particular person does not bring any benefit to your religious or worldly matters, and in fact, associating with them may result in a loss in either or both aspects of your life. Therefore, if you engage with this person, it would be like a disease that could ultimately lead to your demise. Among them, there is one whose companionship is comparable to a toothache whose pain intensifies, but abates once the toothache disappears.

The fourth group is those whose companionship is utterly destructive, and associating with them is akin to consuming poison. Common indeed is this among the people! May Allah not increase their numbers, and they are the advocates of misguidance and innovation in religious matters. They obstruct others from following the path of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and instead call to that which is in opposition to it. They divert people from the path of Allah and strive to distort it, presenting innovation in religious matters as if they were part of the Sunnah, and misrepresenting virtues as vices and vices as virtues. Whenever you establish pure Islamic monotheism among them, they say, “You have degraded the Awliyaa [friends of Allah]”. [Footnote a] And when you adhere strictly to the path of the Messenger, they say, “You have invalidated the adherence to the path of the Imams”. [Footnote b] Furthermore, when you enjoin what Allah and His Messenger have commanded and forbid what they have forbidden, they say, “You are subjecting people to trials”. [Footnote c] [1]

Footnote a:

Al-Allamah Muqbil Bin Hadi Al-Wadi’i, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated: Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, said:

And they wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say, “This (Prophet Muhammad) is a sorcerer, a liar. Has he made the aaliha (gods) (all) into One Ilaah (God – Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!” And the leaders among them went about (saying), “Go on and remain constant to your aaliha (gods)! Verily, this is a thing designed (against you)! We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention! Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?” Nay! But they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Qur’an)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment! [Surah Sa’d. 4-8]

So, you say to the Raafidah, “Indeed, it is shirk to invoke other than Allah with regards to seeking benefit and protection from harm in a matter which none can (fulfil) besides Allah. It is not permissible to invoke Ali Ibn Abee Taalib [may Allah be pleased with him] or other than him amongst the dead [may Allah have mercy upon them] because Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmeer (the thin membrane over the date stone). O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allah, but Allah is Rich (Free of all wants and needs), Worthy of all praise. [Surah Fatir. 13-14]

And Allah said:

And who is more astray than one who calls (invokes) besides Allah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are (even) unaware of their calls (invocations) to them? And when mankind are gathered (on the Day of Resurrection), they (false deities) will become enemies for them and will deny their worshipping.’ [Surah Al-Ahqaf. 5-6]

And Allah said:

And whoever invokes (or worships), besides Allah, any other ilaah (god), of whom he has no proof, then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely! Al-Kaafiroon (the disbelievers in Allah and in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, pagans, idolaters, etc.) will not be successful.’ [Surah Al-Muminoon. 117]

And if you say, “Indeed others have joined them (i.e. the Mushrikoon) in this (affair”, so I say, “Whoever joins them in this (affair of shirk) is similar to them”. Allah said:

And invoke not besides Allah, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you, but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers). And if Allah touches you with hurt, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favour which He causes it to reach whomsoever of His slaves He will. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’ [Surah Yunus. 106-107]

When you convey these verses and what is similar to them to the (Rawaafid), and then say to them, “Indeed, is it permissible to call upon the dead and seek deliverance and rescue from them?” They (say), “You are a Wahhaabi. You hate the family of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him]”. This is the same regarding the extreme Soofees when you say, “Indeed, the Awliyaa can neither benefit nor harm”, they say, “You hate the Awliyaa”. Indeed, mighty is the statement that comes out of the mouths of these two sects; they utter nothing but a lie! [2]

A Fabricated Narration About Our Noble Father, Prophet Adam

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah ennobled and favoured Adam, peace be upon him, with great specific qualities mentioned in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Allah created him with His two Noble Hands, as He said:

قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبۡلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسۡجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقۡتُ بِيَدَىَّ

(Allah) said: “O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands”. [Sad. 75]

The angels prostrated to him [Footnote a] after he was created. Allah said:

So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him.” So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them: Except Iblis (Satan) he was proud and was one of the disbelievers. [Sad. 72-74]

Allah entered him and his wife into paradise, as Allah said:

وَقُلۡنَا يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ ٱسۡكُنۡ أَنتَ وَزَوۡجُكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنۡهَا رَغَدًا حَيۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا

And We said: “O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight of things therein as wherever you will”. [Al-Baqarah. 35]

These specific qualities have been gathered in the long hadith regarding the intercession reported by Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him. [Al-Bukhari 3340]

The physical traits of Prophet Adam, peace be upon him

He was tall – 60 cubits, very good looking. Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He created him, He said to him, “Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring”. So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alayum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, “As-Salamu Alayka wa Rahmatullah”(i.e. Peace and Allah’s Mercy be upon you)”. Thus the angels added to Adam’s salutation the expression Wa Rahmatullah. Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam’s creation. [Al-Bukhari. 3326]

The Claim That Adam Perform Tawassul [Footnote b] By The Virtue And Status of The Prophet [i.e. that he sought Allah’s forgiveness by virtue and status of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him

The followers of vain desires and proponents of innovation in religious matters claim that when Adam, peace be upon him, ate from the forbidden tree, he performed Tawassul through the Prophet’s status as means of getting what he desired whilst supplicating, thus Allah accepted his repentance.

They used as proof that Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: When Adam committed his mistake he said, “O my Lord! I am asking you to forgive me for the sake of Muhammad”. Allah said, “O Adam! And how do you know about Muhammad whom I have not yet created?” Adam replied, “O my Lord! After You created me with Your hand and breathed into me the soul you created, I raised my head and saw written on the heights of the Throne: Laa Ilaaha Illal laah Muhammadun Rasoolul laah, so I knew that You would not place next to Your Name but the most beloved one of Your creation”. Allah said, “O Adam! You have spoken the truth, indeed he is the most beloved of the creation to Me, so indeed I have forgiven you, and were it not for Muhammad I would not have created you”.

Falsity of this above narration from a number of angles:

The narration is a fabrication and a lie. It has not been reported with an established (authentic chain of narration) from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. In the chain of this hadith, there are narrators who were found guilty of lying and fabricating narrations. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “It has no basis and it is from the fabricated reports that are narrated by some of the common people- neither any of the Imams of Islam used it as proof nor depended on it.

Indeed Adam, peace be upon him, received words from his Lord and his Lord forgave him. It is not established that he performed Tawassul by the status and virtue of the Prophet or his honour. Had this been established, the explainers of the Qur’an would not have refrained from reporting it from the pious predecessors while explaining these words which Adam received.

Repentance from the sin was established through acknowledgement of the sin and seeking forgiveness, and this was based on the statement:

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمۡنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمۡ تَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَتَرۡحَمۡنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ

They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.” [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayah 23]. If forgiveness is received due to repentance, the goal has been achieved and there is no need for anything other than it.

If Adam did say this [i.e. made Tawassul by way of the Prophet’s virtue and status] and fulfilled repentance through it, the Ummah of Muhammad would be more worthy of it than him and the Prophet would have commanded them to supplication with this supplication and legislate it for them; however he did not command them to do so, nor legislated it, nor has this been transmitted from any of the companions, nor from any of the righteous scholars. Thus, this shows the falsity of this affair.

It is known by necessity that other people besides Adam, such as the disbelievers and the wicked sinners, do not do so in the (name, honour, status etc) of anyone when they repent to Allah, therefore how can Adam be in need of this in his repentance that which is not needed by anyone amongst the sinners, neither a Muslim nor a disbeliever! Footnote a: Imam Abdul Aziz Ibn Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said about the Sujud that used to perform out of respect in the time of some of the Prophets before Muhammad:

At that time, the act of Sujud was permissible as a form of respect and greeting, rather than as an act of worship. Just as the angels prostrated to Adam out of honor and reverence, this prostration is not intended for worship but rather for greeting and respect. It was allowed in the religious practices of previous nations, however, in the Shariah brought by Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, such an act is prohibited. It is reported that he stated, “If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would command a woman to prostrate to her husband due to the significant rights he holds over her.”

Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [38 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy..

Indeed diverting from the methodology of the prophets in Dawah is (tantamount) to deviation towards misguidance and destruction. This is because Allah, The Blessed and Most High, laid down and ordained this methodology for all the Prophets.

If the people have Shi’aaraat (i.e. distinguishing principles, doctrines, calls, slogans), we do not have except the Shi’aar (distinguishing principle, doctrine, call) of the Prophets.

If the people have methodologies, we do not have except the methodology of the Prophets, peace and blessings of Allah be upon them.

The Qur’an is the greatest testimony and Allah has often repeated these testimonies and reiterated them in many of the verses.

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (saying): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).” [An-Nahl: 36]

Every Messenger said this to his nation and appeared to his people with this call – the call to Tawheed–and to turn away from Taghut.
