Benefits of ‘Itikaaf on Safeguarding the Tongue and One’s Actions – Shaykh Al-Fawzan

(During ‘itikaaf and outside of ‘itikaaf) a person should speak for that which he needs for religious and worldly affairs as for pointless superfluous speech then there is no benefit in it from two angles:

1. The wasting of a persons time and busying him away from the remembrance of Allah.

2. It’s possible and refuge is sought with Allah, that the speech may be impermissible and his speech may nullify his actions, because he utters a statement which Allah is angered by. It is possible a person could nullify all of his actions and apostate from Islam (1), therefore speech can be dangerous for a person if he does not safeguard it, and there is no curing it except by ‘itikaaf because when a person isolates himself solely for the worship of Allah, he accustoms himself and trains himself upon little speech and upon the restraining of his tongue.

Ta’leeqaat ‘ala Mukhtasar Zaad al-Ma’aad pages 601-602

(1) On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah upon him) say,

‘Indeed a servant may utter a single word and because of it plummet into the Hellfire farther than the distance between the east and the west.’ Bukhari 6477 Muslim 2988

(1) A person recognises the reality and status of this worldly life, it’s passing by and will not last.

(2) That it is has no value in reality.

(3) That a person remembers death frequently.

(4) He remembers the purpose for his creation.

(5) He ponders upon the names and attributes of Allah, he recognises and affirms that Allah is Al-‘Aleem He knows all, he has the Muraaqabah of Allah, meaning he is aware that Allah knows, hears and sees everything he does.

Responsibilities That Make You Upright & Spread the Daw’ah – Shaykh Rabee (Allah preserve him).

The salafi bears a responsibility; upon him is to study (beneficial) knowledge, to study the books of the salaf, the belief of the salaf, their exegesis of the Quran and their explanations of the messenger’s hadeeth (alayhis salaatu was salaam), so that he is grounded in (beneficial) knowledge, whilst he truthfully calls to Allah with knowledge and insight.

He (The Most High) said,

Say, “This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and those who follow me. And exalted is Allah; and I am not of those who associate others with Him.” (12:108)

Meaning, I (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) and my true followers, call to Allah with sure sighted insight; ie upon knowledge.

The caller to ignorance (misguidance, evil, innovations), such as the callers of misguidance and innovation – they are ignoramuses, ignorant of the path of truth and the (correct) call to Allah; they call to falsehood.

The people of innovation and misguidance call to falsehood, even if they are characterised as having knowledge, and even if they have certificates, then they are (still) ignoramuses, just as some of the salaf said, ‘a scholar has never brought about an innovation, rather innovations are only brought about by the ignorant ones, even if they call themselves scholars, then they are (still) ignorant.’

So learn and study the Book of Allah, and the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa salam), study the Oneness of Allah (The Blessed & Most High).

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our, Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions.

Nafahaat al-Huda wal-Eemaan min Majaalis al-Qur’aan of Shaykh Rabee (Hafidahullah) Pg 69

Easily grow and multiply your reward in Ramadhan

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu

All praise is due to Allah who has blessed us with much goodness at our masjid. We find ourselves in Ramadhaan – the blessed month, full of goodness and reward.

Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] reported that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadaan when Jibreel visited him, and Jibreel used to meet him on every night of Ramadaan till the end of the month. The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] used to recite the Noble Qur’aan to Jibreel, and when Jibreel met him, he used to be more generous than the fair wind [sent by Allaah with glad tidings (rain) in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds]. (1)

Zain Ibnul Muneer [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The intent behind the comparison between the Prophet’s generosity and the fair wind is that the wind is mercy which Allaah [The Exalted] sends and sends down rain that falls everywhere – both on a dead land as well as the land that is not dead; (likewise) the Prophet’s good conduct and benevolence benefits everyone – the poor, the wealthy and the one who has enough – more than the rain that falls (after the arrival of that) fair wind”. (2)

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was the most generous amongst the people with regards to wealth and not that he was generous only when asked.  And in the final year of his life, Jibreel met him twice and he finished the recitation of the Qur’aan twice. And from the benefits of this hadeeth is that it is more virtuous to study and recite the Qur’aan at night, studying it with the righteous people and the scholars. The Prophet recited the Qur’aan to Jibreel to receive Allaah’s reward.

Generosity in times when people are in need and in Ramadaan is something sought after in the religion of Islaam. (3)

Abdullah Bin Habshi al-Khath’ami [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that the Prophet (ﷺ) was asked, “Which of the actions is better?” He replied, “Standing for long time (in prayer)”. He was again asked, “Which alms is better?” He replied, “The alms given by a man possessing small property acquired by his labour”. (4)

Last year we raised money for the restoration and renovation of the cabins. Alhamdu lil laah, they are now in use for the Taraweeh prayer and opened up for Jumu’ah also. But the blessings do not end there, as narrated from Uthmaan [may Allah be pleased with him] that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it”. (5)

Every week there are at least 35 children attending Qur’ān school 3 times a week. There’s around 60 who attend and learn Islam, Arabic and Quran every Saturday. In addition, around 70 children are taught via the tuition centre every week, club activities for girls and women who use them for Quran classes – including free lessons taught during ramadhan and more. We must always do our utmost and never underestimate reward from Allah, and we ask Allaah to grant us foresight in knowing what brings about greater rewards.

Many parents have their children on our school waiting lists and without these extra rooms, which you helped fund, 100’s throughout the last 6 years would have missed out on Quran, sound Creed, sound methodology and the Arabic. So, we ask Allah to grant abundant reward to those who donated and bless their wealth, and likewise reward those who are always making du’aa for the Masjid to be protected from all harm.

We are asking you again this year to donate in this blessed month of Ramadhaan- a time in which one can maximise that reward by helping us cover our rent for the year, and imagine the reward for all the prayers of the performers of the prayer that you would help facilitate. Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] was asked, “Is it permissible to give charity to mosques?” He replied, “Yes, giving charity to the mosques is good. Maintaining mosques is one of the most virtuous acts of worship if the charity is an optional extra act of worship and not the obligatory Zakat. If one builds mosques, repairs or  completes what is missing from them, or furnishes them, this is a righteous deed and an act by way of which one draws close to Allaah, but this should be other than the obligatory Zakat. As for the Zakat, it should be for the eight types of people (mentioned) in Allaah’s statement:

إِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْعَامِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَالْغَارِمِينَ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاِبْنِ السَّبِيلِ

As-Sadaqat (here it means Zakat) are only for the Fuqara’ (poor), and Al-Masakin (the poor) and those employed to collect (the funds); and for to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Islam); and to free the captives; and for those in debt; and for Allah’s Cause (i.e. for Mujahidun – those fighting in the holy wars), and for the wayfarer (a traveller who is cut off from everything). [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 60] (6)

May Allaah grant us and you all a blessed Ramadhaan, accept our acts of worship and overlook our shortcomings Aameen.

Is the Presence of Differing a Proof for the People of Innovation to Remain and be Steadfast upon their Falsehood and Misguidance?! – Shaykh Rabee ibn Haadi

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Questioner:

Verily amongst the Shaikhs of Ahlul Bidah [i.e. leaders of the people of innovated religious affairs] are those that deceive the people and say, “Indeed differing exists even in the fundamentals of the religion”.

Shaykh Rabee (hafidahullah):

Fine, if differing exits, we say likewise differing exits in the fundamental and subsidiary issues of the religion, however what is Allaah’s Ruling on this differing? Is there a solution for this differing? Is the mere presence of differing a proof for the proponents of religious innovations to remain and be steadfast upon their falsehood and misguidance?!

These Ikhwaan al-Muslimeen want you to be silent about the Raafidah, silent about the Khawaarij, silent about the Mu’tazilah, silent about the worshippers of the graves, why? Because [i.e. they want to claim that] the pious predecessors differed, likewise we differ with them, so we leave them alone! Did the companions leave alone those who opposed them? Did the Messenger leave those who opposed him? Did he not establish Allaah’s commands and prohibitions and did he not rebuke those who went to extremes in worship and say, “Whoever turns away from my sunnah is not from me…”(1)

Why did Allah  – The Blessed and The Most High – praise this Ummah [i.e. the Muslims] that they enjoin good and forbid evil;

You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. (Aali-Imraan:110)

hence, one of the most loathsome, the filthiest and most evil deed is to oppose the fundamentals; they oppose the Lord of All that Exists and His noble messenger. Should we remain quiet about those who oppose the fundamentals – those who oppose the Qur’aan and the Sunnah of His Messenger?

The one who rebukes those who say “Our Lord is above the heavens and has ascended above His Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty)” and he claims that Allah does not have a place, not above, not below, not on the right, or on the left, do we remain quiet about this?!!

Should we remain quiet about the one who says, “I invoke so and so, seeks deliverance from others besides Allah, sacrifice animals for other than Allah?”  Allah – The Most High – said,

And who is more astray (in religion and intellect) than he who invokes besides Allāh those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection and who are unaware of their invocation (which is being directed to them). (Al-Ahqaf:5)

And Allah passed a judgement that he’ll enter the fire – Refuge is sought with Allah.

These are worthless people and I do not know how the Salafis can be confused by the likes of this doubt?!! You have proofs and evidences with you, and with your ability you can face those people and chase them away with the proofs and evidences; [but] you sit [quietly] like this and let the doubt grab you?! Bombard them with the proofs and evidences that are with you.

Does The Order of the Prophets in the Heavens indicate Levels of Virtue -Shaikh Rabee ibn Haadi

Question:

Our Shaykh may Allah preserve you- is it understood that the order of the prophets in the heavens (as in Hadith of the isra – see Sahih bukhari) is in accordance to their virtue over (another) ?

Answer:

No. No, this is not understood (from the Hadith).  As for Ibraaheem and Moosaa this is indicated; but as for other than them, then no. For indeed Eesaa is from the ulul azam and he was in the second (heaven), whilst Idris and Yoosuf are lesser than him in virtue.  This (Hadith) does not indicate a precise order.

[2] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others. Must read: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/living-with-non-muslims-in-the-west-with-fine-conduct/    https://salafidawahmanchester.com/2017/05/stance-proactive-order-protect-muslims-non-muslim-neighbours-inhuman-ideologies-devilish-acts-jihaadist-terrorists-sympathisers/

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposed it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us, rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Tafsir As-Sadi]

Who Were Those Christian Witnesses Promised Reward In The Hereafter?

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: Allaah [The Most High] said:

And when they (who call themselves Christians) listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger (Muhammad), you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognised.  They say: ”Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses. And why should we not believe in Allaah and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islaamic Monotheism)? And we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection) along with the righteous people. So because of what they said, Allaah rewarded them Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise), they will abide therein forever. Such is the reward of good-doers. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayaat 83-85]

Therefore, Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] did not make a promise of reward in the Hereafter, except to those who believe in Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam].  They are the ones about whom it is stated: [وَإِذَا سَمِعُواْ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ تَرَىٰٓ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمۡعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ‌ۖ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ – And when they (who call themselves Christians) listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognised.  They say: ”Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses”]. [Al-Maa’idah. Aayah83]

The witnesses are those who testify to Messengership of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. They bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] is the Messenger of Allaah.  So, they are the witnesses being spoken about.  Allaah said:

Thus We have made you [true Muslims – real believers of Islamic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah (legal ways)], a Wasat (just) (and the best) nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 143]

And for that reason, Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhu] and other than him stated [regarding the statement  (فَٱكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ  – So write us down among the witnesses]- Meaning: “Write us down with Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and his ummah”.  All those who bear witness to the Messengers with affirmation are from THE WITNESSES, just as the disciples said: [رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا بِمَآ أَنزَلۡتَ وَٱتَّبَعۡنَا ٱلرَّسُولَ فَٱڪۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ – Our Lord! We believe in what You have sent down, and we follow the Messenger [‘Iesa (Jesus)]; so write us down among those who bear witness (to the truth i.e. Laa ilaaha illal-laa – none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 53]

And Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And strive hard in Allaah’s Cause as you ought to strive (with sincerity and with all your efforts that His Name should be superior). He has chosen you (to convey His Message of Islaamic Monotheism to mankind by inviting them to His religion, Islaam), and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship, it is the religion of your father Ibraahim (Abraham) (Islamic Monotheism). It is He (Allaah) Who has named you Muslims both before and in this (the Qur’aan), that the Messenger (Muhammad) may be a witness over you and you be witnesses over mankind! [Surah Al-Hajj. Aayaat 77-78] [End of quote] [Source: An Excerpt from Al-Jawaab As-Saheeh Liman Baddala Deen Al-Maseeh. Vol 2. Pages 46-47]

Dhikr is to be Performed as Much as Possible – Ibn Abbas in Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Alee ibn Abee Talhah (rahimahullah) reported that Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them both) stated regarding Allah The Most High’s statement

Remember Allah with much remembrance. (Al-Ahzaab:41)

Verily, Allah did not obligate an obligation upon his servants except that he legislated a fixed limit for it (1), and then excused its performers when they are in a situation when they are excused (2), except in the case of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) for indeed Allah did not legislate a limit for it and nor is a person excused for abandoning it, except when compelled. Allah said,

remember Allah standing, sitting down, and (lying down) on your sides (An-Nisaa:103)

night and day, at land or sea, whilst travelling or resident, when wealthy and in times of poverty, in sickness and in health, in private and public and in all circumstances, He, The Mighty and Majestic said,

And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and ‘Asr prayers]. (Al-Ahzaab:42)

so if you were to do that (in the manner mentioned by ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them both)) then Allah will send His Blessings upon you, and the Angels will supplicate for you.

Tafsir Al-Qur’aan Al-‘Adheem ibn Katheer vol.11 pgs.182-183

(1) e.g. obligatory prayers are a fixed number (five) with set number of raka’aat, obligatory fasts of Ramadhan are one month every calendar year.
(2) e.g. a traveller, sick person does not have to fast obligatory fasts, the woman on her menses does not pray or fast etc

Why do Some Scholars Refute by Name and Why do Others Refute Generally – Explained and Answered by Shaykh Rabee with Additional Benefits from Shaykhs Uthaymeen, Ahmed An-Najmi & Shaykh Fawzaan

We want to understand the following issue, It is well known that the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah are united upon (the importance) of refuting the people of innovation – All Praises belong to Allah – however some scholars refute specific individuals by name and some refute the people of innovation generally (without names).(1)

Shaykh Rabee (hafidahullah) responds,

Is there anyone from the Salaf who made it binding not to refute individuals by name and would rebuke those who do refute individuals by name?! This is worthless empty speech, the Scholar will sometimes refute generally, if he sees there is a benefit in doing so, and if he sees that he should specify and name this individual and expose his condition and clarify (2) his deviations, then he warns against him, with writings (written refutations) and sermons (oral refutations) etc.

Therefore, this categorisation is an error, i.e. that we claim the Salaf did not refute specific individuals without exception; never throughout their lives; nor did they mention specific individuals; this is not the case, this is a lie upon the Salaf from this view point. Yes this (refutation upon a) specific individual sometimes it is general and sometimes it is specific in accordance to the need and the over riding benefit in doing so. (3)

Fataawa fee Al-Aqeedah wa Al-Manhaj of Shaykh Rabee Dar Al-Minhaaj pgs. 25-26

(1) Shaykh Fawzaan (hafidahullah): The principle related to this [i.e. mentioning names] is about warning against mistakes and deviation, after identifying it as such. If the affair requires making known the name of an individual among the obstinate opponents so that beguilement does not occur through their [affair] – especially those individuals with deviated views or deviation in behaviour and methodology, and they are well known among the people and the people have a good opinion of them- then there is no harm in mentioning them by their names and their methodology warned against… The people must be warned, because [employing] silence will be harmful to the people. His affair has to be unveiled

(2) Shaykh Uthaymeen (rahimahullah): If we see an individual who has an ideology/concept opposing that which the Salaf were upon, then it is obligatory for us to clarify that so that people are not deceived by him.

(3) Shaykh Ahmed An-Najmee (rahimahullah): When something happened the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) used to say: “What is wrong with a people (who did or say such and such)?! This is correct; but is this said about the leaders of misguidance – those who call the people to affairs of misguidance and the people are put to trial through them; is this said about them? No, these ones must be mentioned; they must be made known and they must be known, so that the people are cautious about them.

[1] A Timely Reminder About The Danger of Lying And Its Evil Outcomes – [Excerpts From a Powerful Lecture By Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee al-Madkhalee [may Alaah preserve him] stated:

All praise and thanks be to Allaah, and may Allaah’s peace and blessings be upon Allaah’s Messenger, his family, his companions and those who follow his guidance. To proceed: Indeed, lying is repugnant and heinous – considered extremely repugnant and loathsome by the Islamic legislation, sound intellect and sound natural disposition; abhorred in all nations, all religions and creeds. Indeed, Allaah made it forbidden in all messages of the Messengers, dispraised lying and liars in many verses and promised them the severest punishment. Allaah [تبارك وتعالى ] said: [قُلۡ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّىَ ٱلۡفَوَٲحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنۡہَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلۡإِثۡمَ وَٱلۡبَغۡىَ بِغَيۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَن تُشۡرِكُواْ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬ا وَأَن تَقُولُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ – Say (O Muhammad):“(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawahish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allah for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge]. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayah 33]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] sees that the most loathsome and greatest of these unlawful deeds is to speak about Allaah without knowledge, since Shirk and Kufr did not occur except from lying. Allaah  [تعالى   ] said: [وَلَا تَقۡفُ مَا لَيۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٌ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡبَصَرَ وَٱلۡفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ كَانَ عَنۡهُ مَسۡـُٔولاً۬ – And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not, etc.) that of which you have no knowledge (e.g. one’s saying: “I have seen,” while in fact he has not seen, or “I have heard,” while he has not heard). Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allah)].

Allaah [تعالى   ] said:

And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: “This is lawful and this is forbidden,” so as to invent lies against Allah. Verily, those who invent lies against Allah will never prosper. A passing brief enjoyment (will be theirs), but they will have a painful torment. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayaat 116-117]

Allaah forbade lying and mentioned it alongside shirk. Allaah [

So shun the abomination (worshipping) of idol, and shun lying speech (false statements). Hunafa’ Lillah (i.e. to worship none but Allah), not associating partners (in worship, etc.) unto Him and whoever assigns partners to Allah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him to a far off place. [Surah Al-Hajj. Aayaat 30-31]

This dangerous shirk is established upon lies and it is its greatest foundation and principle, and Allaah considers it as the severest type of wrongdoing. Allaah said:

And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allah, while he is being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers) folk. They intend to extinguish the Light of Allah with their mouths. But Allah will complete His Light even though the disbelievers hate (it). [Surah As-Saff. Aayaat 7-8]

Allaah clarified the filth of their goals and the evil of their intentions, and that by way of their lies and fabrications they intend to extinguish Allaah’s guidance, His proofs, evidences and mighty signs. This is the same regarding everyone amongst the people of desires who wages war against the truth and its adherents, for they want to extinguish Allaah’s guidance, nullify His proofs and evidences in order to give the upper hand to their falsehoods and misguidance. Allaah [The Exalted] stated regarding lying and the liars:

فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّن ڪَذَبَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلصِّدۡقِ إِذۡ جَآءَهُ ۥۤ‌ۚ أَلَيۡسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثۡوً۬ى لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ

Then, who does more wrong than one who utters a lie against Allah, and denies the truth when it comes to him! Is there not in Hell an abode for the disbelievers?

[Surah Az-Zumar. Aayah 32]

So, this is the recompense for the liars. Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “Avoid the seven destructive sins: “Shirk, witchcraft, killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden to be killed, except in cases dictated by Islamic law; consuming ribaa, consuming the orphans’ wealth, fleeing from the battlefield and slandering chaste, innocent women”.

So, he [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] placed slander- and it is one of the most loathsome types of lies – amongst these major sins which Allaah commanded us to avoid due to its danger, rather the one who commits this slander is cursed in this life and the hereafter. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَرۡمُونَ ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَـٰتِ ٱلۡغَـٰفِلَـٰتِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ لُعِنُواْ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأَخِرَةِ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ۬

Verily, those who accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are good believers, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter, and for them will be a great torment. [Surah an-Noor. Aayah 23]

And Allaah [The Exalted] stated with hatred towards the one who transmits lies and neither pondered nor had sound knowledge of the affair:

When you were propagating it with your tongues, and uttering with your mouths that whereof you had no knowledge, you counted it a little thing, while with Allah it was very great. And why did you not, when you heard it, say? “It is not right for us to speak of this. Glory be to You (O Allah) this is a great lie.” Allah forbids you from it and warns you not to repeat the like of it forever, if you are believers. [Surah An-Noor. Aayaat 15-17]

Allaah said: [إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ ٱلۡفَـٰحِشَةُ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ۬ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ – Verily, those who like that (the crime of) illegal sexual intercourse should be propagated among those who believe, they will have a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you know not]. [Surah An-Noor. Aayah 19]

This severe threat of punishment and dispraise is related to slandering chaste women, and what is more dangerous than it is slandering those believers who are innocent, those who strive in the path of Allaah, the callers to the path of Allaah [تبارك وتعالى ] with truth and clear proofs. Indeed, the people of desires – those who wage war against the truth and its adherents – think that this is specific to the act of slandering chaste women!  Depraved is the thinking of the one who has this corrupt understanding!

Indeed, this includes the one who violates the honour of the Muslims, especially the honour of the callers to the truth who are innocent, for indeed their honour has a great status which must be protected and not violated. And it maybe that the one who violates this honour is more deserving of curse and punishment than the one who slanders chaste women due to a personal or worldly affair. Allaaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: “Whoever argues based on falsehood knowingly will not cease to be under the wrath of Allaah until he stops. And whoever says about a believer that which is not true, he will reside in Radghat Al-Khabaal [pus] until he recants”. The one who knowingly argues based on falsehood as well as the one who says about a believer that which is not true, his recompense as it is stated is that  e will be imprisoned in the pus of the people of the hell fire. This is an authentic hadeeth that was reported by Abu Daawud, Ahmad and Al-Haakim. Return to As-Saheehah by Albaanee [rahimahullaah], hadeeth Number 438.

He [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “The worst form of usury is the violation of someone’s honour” – meaning the honour of those who are innocent. And he [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “Verily, the worst act of usury is a man’s attack against the honour of his brother”. Refer to As-Saheehah by Albaanee. Number 1433 and the other hadeeth that support this hadeeth in there.

The worst form of usury is the violation of someone’s honour”

Verily, the worst act of usury is to attack the honour of a Muslim without a just cause. [Abu Daawud 4876]

[Verily, the worst act of usury is to attack the reputation of a Muslim]: Meaning, the greater in evil and the more severely prohibited is to unleash the tongue against the honour of a Muslim by belittling him, behaving arrogantly towards him and speaking ill against him by way of slander or verbal abuse. This becomes more severe in prohibition because honour is more noble than one’s self and wealth.

[Without a just cause]- Meaning, this shows that there are cases in which one is allowed to speak about someone, saying, such and such is an oppressor or transgressor, or making a mention of an innovator and an open sinner with the intention to issue warning. At-Teebee [rahimahullaah] said: Honour enters into the types of wealth from the angle of emphasis, and then this usury is categorised into the two types- that which is customary [i.e. evil customs] and it is what is taken as an addition from debtors, and the one that is not customary, such as a person attacking the honour of someone with his tongue. [An Excerpt from ‘Awnul Mabood Sharh Sunan Abee Daawud’ 13/152. Slightly paraphrased]

This [i.e. violating the honour of a Muslim] has been referred to as usury because the transgressor establishes his honour and then goes beyond it, so it is as if he has added an increase that encroaches the boundaries in relation to the honour of a Muslim which is more valuable than his wealth. At-Teebee [rahimahullaah] said: Honour is included in the types of wealth from the angle of emphasis, and usury is categorised into one that is customary and it is what is taken as an addition from debtors, and that which is not customary such as a person attacking the honour of someone with his tongue. Al-Qaadhee [rahimahullaah] said, “Attacking a Muslim’s honour is to deal with him more than what he deserves of that which is to be said about him, or more than what is allowed to say about him, and this is why it is likened to usury and considered one of its types; then it is considered worse because it contains more harm and severer in corruption. [An Excerpt from ‘Mirqaatul Mafaateeh Sharh Mishkaat Al-Masaabeeh’ 8/3157. Slightly paraphrased]

Shaikh Rabee [may Allaah preserve him] continued….

Allaah [The Exalted] stated about those who lend an ear to lies and those affected by it amongst the Yahood, the Munaafiqeen and those who follow their way:

O Messenger (Muhammad)! Let not those who hurry to fall into disbelief grieve you, of such who say: “We believe” with their mouths but their hearts have no faith. And of the Yahood are men who listen much and eagerly to lies – listen to others who have not come to you. They change the words from their places; they say, “If you are given this, take it, but if you are not given this, then beware!” And whomsoever Allah wants to put in Al-Fitnah [error, because of his rejecting the Faith], you can do nothing for him against Allah. Those are the ones whose hearts Allah does not want to purify (from disbelief and hypocrisy); for them there is a disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a great torment. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 41]

Look at what is these Aayaat of dispraise and severe disparagement against those who lend an ear to lies, those who transmit it in the world – and Allaah’s refuge is sought- whilst not pondering, ascertaining and not looking into the reality.
