An agonising complaint from an African Muslim and its remedy

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

Verily! Allah will not change the condition of a people as long as they do not change what is in themselves. [Al-Rad: 11]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: The wording of this verse shows that Allah) does not remove His blessings which He bestowed upon His servants until they (abandon) obedience to Him and disobey Him. [1]

And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them. [Al-Nur 63]

The complainer said:

We were ravaged by merciless conquests, unjust enslavement, and imperial deceit. Whenever a noble leader arose from our ranks to champion the unwavering struggle for our liberation from the mental bondage imposed upon us, the signs of this mental subjugation favour the oppressor, despite the physical shackles of slavery having long since vanished. Yet, the chains of our minds continue to imprison many; not through the savagery of colonialism, but through the weight of debt; not with lashes, but via multinational corporations; not by enforcing compliance through colonial statutes, but through economic coercion, cultural hegemony that seeks to alter Islamic tenets, and efforts to suppress the truth. Those who dare to confront this injustice are met with assassination, conspiracy, or exile, orchestrated by foreign agents and their local collaborators – the betrayers among us.

We stand against our rulers in defense of the outsider, and in this endeavour, we acknowledge our failure to rebuild despite our suffering. We are not turning to the divine texts of the Qur’an and Sunnah for wisdom, even as we endure wounds, nor are we seeking solidarity in all that is beloved to Allah, while resolutely striving to liberate ourselves from oppression. Instead of demanding fairness, fair partnership, and mutual exchange, we find ourselves reliant on handouts.

Those who have been oppressing us did not achieve dominance through persuasion or a superior belief system; rather, it was our separation from the Qur’an and Sunnah that allowed them to plunder our resources and invade our territories. This has led to our demoralisation, destabilisation, discrediting, and the destruction of all our efforts. What they fear most is our unity on the path of the Salaf. They understand that through this unity, the world they aspire to create to keep us subservient will no longer be a comfortable haven for them, and they will be unable to exploit us as intermediaries and brokers of their interests at the cost of our well-being. Anyone who critically expresses concern regarding the neocolonial oppressor and take bold steps for self-determination is labeled a radical and deemed a dangerous anti-Western agitator. In this manner, they monopolisze narratives, utilisng distortions that are clouded by falsehoods. They portray us as beings devoid of humanity, savages existing outside the bounds of civilization, wretches in need of salvation, famished individuals, afflicted by disease, chaos, terror, devoid of hope, success, development, and honor.

Despite the abundance of resources on our continent, we remain the most impoverished. Our land is rich in cobalt, essential for the functioning of cell phones and electric vehicles. This cobalt is sourced from our continent, yet the majority of our population cannot afford such devices. Additionally, our continent boasts extensive reserves of platinum, crucial for electronic gadgets and medical implants. However, even with this platinum originating from our land, we find ourselves paralyzed by rampant unemployment. Our continent is also rich in gold, yet our people are mired in poverty. Furthermore, we possess diamonds that are extracted by oppressors, while our miners struggle to survive on meager wages. Lastly, our continent is endowed with vast quantities of uranium, which powers the nuclear plants of our oppressors and illuminates their cities, while our villages remain shrouded in darkness. Clapping and Whistling

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdil-Wahhab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “They (i.e. the pre-Islamic people of ignorance) carried out worship by whistling and clapping their hands”.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

From the affairs (i.e. practices) of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance which Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, opposed was that they carried out worship – seeking closeness to Allah- through whistling and clapping. Allah, The Most High said:

وَمَا كَانَ صَلاَتُهُمْ عِندَ الْبَيْتِ إِلاَّ مُكَاء وَتَصْدِيَةً َ

And their prayer at the House (Ka’bah) was nothing but whistling and clapping of hands [Al-Anfal 35]

Meaning, the polytheists did not seek closeness to Allah at the noble kabah, except through whistling and clapping. Al-Mukaa means whistling and Tasdeeyah means clapping with the two hands and palms. They used to do this at the House of Allah and called it prayer- seeking nearness to Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, by through it. This is from the [matters] that the devils among mankind and jinn made fair seeming to them. This is because worship cannot be (carried out) except through that which Allah has legislated; it is Tawqeefiyyah (i.e. established based on the texts of the Shariah). A person should not initiate anything (i.e. acts of worship) or take it from someone else, while it is not legislated by Allah to be established as worship, nor does it have any origin in the Islamic legislation. And from this, the prohibition of these two traits -whistling and clapping- can be established, even if a person does not intend to perform worship through them, because there is resemblance to the polytheists in that.

And (with regards) to clapping, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,  specifically permitted it for the women when there is a need, such as informing the Imam (i.e. by clapping) if he makes a mistake in the prayer. And that is because of the Fitna – if men are present- that may take place from her voice. It is neither permissible for a man to imitate the unbelievers nor a women by way of clapping. If it the case that clapping is not permissible for men out of necessity with regards to informing the Imam when he makes a mistake in the prayer, rather he informs the Imam by way of Tasbeeh [i.e. saying سبحان الله], then it not being allowed when there is no necessity is even a stronger reason. In this there is rebuttal against those men who whistle in the gatherings in resemblance to the disbelievers.

Netanyahu’s Claim of Moral Superiority Scrutinised and Disproved Once More

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Netanyahu, your assertion of moral superiority has been rejected once more because of your failure to recognize these texts and your disregard for human life

Allah, The Exalted, said:

And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse and whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace; Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Al-Furqan. 68-70]

Allah said:

And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him]. [Al-Nisaa. 93]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا

If anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land – it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. [Al-Maa’idah. 32]

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If a person is bold enough to kill someone who does not deserve to be killed, then this implies that he does make a distinction between the one He killed and other than him; rather he would commit this act whenever his evil calls him to that. Therefore, his bold attitude that led him to kill is as if he has killed all humankind. On the other hand, if a person saves a life and does not kill – whilst his soul calls him to do so – due to fear of Allaah, then this is as if he has saved the lives of all humankind, because the fear of Allaah he possesses stops him killing one who does not deserve to be killed. [Tafsir As-Sadi]

Abdullah Bin Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “The first (thing) that will be decided among people on the Day of Judgment will pertain to bloodshed”. [Sahih Muslim. 1678]

Imam An-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said,” This hadith shows the seriousness of bloodshed and that it will be the first thing that will be judged between people on the Day of Resurrection because of its greatness and extreme danger. This hadith does not contradict the well-known hadith in the Sunan that “The first thing a person will be questioned about is the prayer”, because this hadith is regarding a matter between Allah and the person, whereas the first hadith (i.e. judgement in matters related to bloodshed) is between the people”. [Sharh Sahih Muslim. 11/139]

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “The termination of the world means less to Allah than the killing of a Muslim (i.e. without right)”. [Sahih Al-Jaami 9208]

Amr Ibn Al-Hamiq, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Whenever a man promises safety for another man’s life and then kills him, I disavow myself from him even if the victim was an unbeliever”. [Sahih Al-Jami 6103]

Abdullah Bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Whoever killed a Mu’ahid (a non-Muslim granted the pledge of protection by the Muslims) shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise though its fragrance can be smelt at a distance of forty years (of traveling)”. [Sahih al-Bukhari 6914]

Uqbah Ibn Aamir, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Whoever meets Allah whilst neither associating anything with Him nor spilling sacred blood will enter Paradise”. [Silsilah As-Sahihah 2923]

The people said to Jundub, may Allah be pleased with him], “Advise us”. He said, “The first thing of the human body to putrefy is the abdomen, so he who can eat nothing but good food [halaal and earned lawfully] should do so, and he who does as much as he can that nothing intervenes between him and paradise by not shedding even a handful of blood [i.e. unlawful killing], should do so”. [Sahih Al-Bukhari 7152]

A man wrote to Ibn Umar, may Allaah be pleased with him and his father, and asked him to write down all knowledge for him; so he replied to him, saying, “Indeed, knowledge is plentiful, but if you are able to meet Allah whilst not shedding people’s blood, not taking their wealth (unlawfully) and violating their honour, then do so”. [Siyar A’lam An-Nubula 3/222]

The combined efforts of all the creation to help or harm you

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Allah.

From Abū al-ʿAbbās ʿAbd Allāh bin ʿAbbās (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhuma) who said:

I was behind the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) one day when he said, “Young man, I shall teach you some words. Be mindful of Allāh and Allāh will protect you. Be mindful of Allāh and you will find Him in front of you. When you ask, then ask only of Allāh, and when you seek aid, then seek aid from Allāh. Know that if the whole ummah gathered together to benefit you with something, they will not benefit you except with something that Allāh had written for you, and if they gathered together to harm you with something, they will not harm you except with something that Allāh had written for you. The pens have been lifted, and the scrolls have dried.” And in a narration from other than al-Tirmidhī (there occurs), “Be mindful of Allāh and you fill find him in front of you. Be acquainted with Allāh in prosperity and He will know you in hardship. Know that whatever passed you by was never going to befall you and whatever befell you was never going to pass you by. Know that aid comes alongside patience and that relief comes with difficulty and ease comes with hardship.” [1]

Al-Allaamah Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbad, may Allah preserve him, said:

Ibn Rajab provided precious commentary on this hadith in Jami Al-Uloom Wal Hikam. He explained that Allah’s protection for His servant manifests in two ways: safeguarding the individual’s body, wealth, children, and family, as well as protecting his religion by shielding him from doubts that may lead to misguidance and unlawful desires.

As a result, the person can maintain righteousness and steadfastness in both his religious and worldly matters. This divine protection is granted to those who are conscious of Allah, those who adhere to His commandments and refrain from what He has prohibited. Allah rewards such individuals based on their mindfulness of Him, and recompense is given in accordance with one’s deeds. The Prophet’s statement “He (Allah) will protect you” serves as a reward for the positive outcomes that stem from righteous actions, with the reward being commensurate with one’s actions. As for the statement of the Prophet “Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you”, this means that you will find Allah in front of you- Allah will guard and protect you, and He will protect you from every evil. The statement of the Prophet “Acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity, and He will acknowledge you in times of hardship” means that if you remain in obedience to Allah and His Messenger in times of ease and well-being, Allah will reward you by protecting you during times of severe hardship and critical situations. What will shed more light on this is the story of three individuals who were strolling when the rain started to pour, forcing them to seek shelter in a mountain cave. A large rock blocked the entrance, trapping them inside as if they were in a grave while alive. They then recalled and reminded each other of the righteous deeds they had done for the sake of Allah during times of ease, using them as a means of seeking intercession. One mentioned his kindness towards his parents, another his abstention from fornication for the sake of Allah, and the third his fulfilment of a worker’s rights even after the worker had left without collecting his wages. By invoking Allah with these righteous actions, the rock miraculously moved, allowing them to escape from the cave. [2]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, made it known in this statement that if the entire Ummah were to unite in an effort to benefit you, they would only be able to do so with what Allah has decreed for you. Therefore, if you receive any benefit from them, then know that it is from Allah, as He is the one who has ordained it.

The Prophet did not say: “If they gathered to assist you, they would not be able to help”,  rather, he stated: “They would not be able to assist you except with what Allah has decreed for you”.

There is no doubt that people benefit one another, assist one another, and support one another; however, all of this is decreed by Allah for a person. The blessing in this belongs to Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, first and foremost. He is the One who provides for you with those who can help you, show you kindness, and alleviate your hardship. On the other hand, if they were to gather to harm you, they would not be able to do so except with what Allah has decreed for you.

Belief in this necessitates that a person devotes himself to his Lord and relies solely on Him, and does concern himself with anyone, as he knows that even if all of creation were to gather to harm him with something, they would not be able to harm him, except with something that Allah has decreed for him, thus, he places his hope in Allah and holds firmly to Him, and unconcerned about the creation even if they gather against him. This is why we find people among the early generations of this Ummah who, when they relied on Allah and placed their trust in Him, they were not harmed by the schemes of the schemers or the envy of the envious.

But if you remain patient and fear Allah, not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do. [Aal Imran 120] [3]

We ask Allah:

O Turner of the hearts! Keep my heart upon Your religion.

O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for steadfastness in this affair (regarding sound adherence to the religion) and firm resolve to adhere to the path of guidance.

The Greatest Pleasure in Both the Afterlife and the Worldly Life

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The greatest pleasure in the afterlife is the pleasure of seeing Allah, Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections, as it has been reported in the authentic hadith: “They [the people of paradise] will not be granted anything that is more beloved to them than seeing Him [Allah]”. This is the fruitful outcome of knowing Him and worshipping Him in this worldly life. The best thing in this worldly life is to possess knowledge and awareness of Him and the best thing in the afterlife is to see Him. [Majmu Al-Fataawa. 14/163]
