“Smaller Families!!!”

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] said:

فَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُواْ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَہۡزِءُونَ

Then when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were glad [and proud] with that which they had of the knowledge [of worldly things]: And that at which they used to mock, surrounded them [i.e. the punishment]. [Ghaafir. 83]

Every constructed ideology attracts its share of uncritical adherents, extremists, and oppressors. It is not surprising that some of the so-called enlightened authorities or scholars in the field of worldly sciences engage in various forms of criminal behaviour and mischief. Many of us, having progressed through primary and secondary education, as well as colleges and universities, are familiar with Charles Darwin’s work “Savages and Favoured Races,” which undeniably serves as a foundation for racial discrimination. Nevertheless, the trajectory of the arrogant and dogmatic eugenicists has resulted in further oppression, manifesting as crimes against the weak and vulnerable segments of society. Population eugenics involved encouraging individuals to reproduce in ways that yield preferred traits. Indeed, the believer remains entirely unencumbered by the agendas and ideologies of those who approach reproduction solely to advance their materialistic or racist objectives—whether that be to generate future labourers for communists and capitalists or to inhibit certain societal groups from procreation under the guise of racial hygiene or out of a fear of poverty. We do not heed the voices of any malevolent individuals who attempt to instill fear regarding financial hardship, suggesting that having numerous children inevitably leads to a life of poverty.

Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying, “If you were to put your trust in Allah in the manner that He deserves, then you would be provided (with sustenance) as the birds are (provided for). They go out early in the day with empty stomachs and return at the end of the day with full (stomachs)’”.

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, comments on the above hadith as follows:

“If you were to put your trust in Allah in the manner that He deserves” – Meaning, true reliance upon Allah, complete dependence upon Allah in seeking your provision and other than that. “Then you would be provided (with sustenance) as the birds are (provided for)”.

The bird’s sustenance is with Allah. The birds do not have an owner, thus they fly in the air and set out early in day in search of Allah’s Provision. “They go out early in the day with empty stomachs” – in the early hours of the day with hunger and empty stomachs, as Allah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:

[فَمَنِ ٱضۡطُرَّ فِى مَخۡمَصَةٍ غَيۡرَ مُتَجَانِفٍ۬ لِّإِثۡمٍ۬‌ۙ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬ – But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these mentioned meats), then surely, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful]. [Al-Ma’idah. 3]

“They go out early in the day with empty stomachs”- nothing in their stomachs. However, they put their trust in their Lord (The Mighty and Majestic], and “Return at the end of the day with full stomach”. They return in the latter part of the day with stomachs filled with Allah’s Provision.

So there are proofs in this (hadith) with regards to some matters:

It is incumbent upon the person to truly depend on Allah. Indeed, there is no living creature on the earth, except that its provision is due from Allah. Even the bird in the sky, none holds it up in the sky and none provides for it besides Allah. Every creature on the earth, be it as tiny as a small ant or huge like an elephant and its likes, its provision is due from Allah, as Allah [The Exalted] said: [وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ۬ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ رِزۡقُهَا وَيَعۡلَمُ مُسۡتَقَرَّهَا وَمُسۡتَوۡدَعَهَا‌ۚ – And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allaah. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit (in the uterus, grave, etc.)]. [Surah Hud. Verse 6]

Indeed, the clearly misguided one is he who harbours suspicion about his Lord. He says, “Do not have many children because you will not have enough provision”. By the Lord of the Throne! They have lied because Allah will give you more provision if you have more children. There is not a living creature on the earth except that its provision is due from Allah. The provision for your children and little ones is due from Allah. He (Allah) is The One Who opens the doors of provision for you, in order that you may spend on them. However, many people harbour an evil suspicion about Allah and are dependent on materialistic ideas. They do not look at (the affairs) with far sightedness and in accordance with Allah’s Absolute Ability, and that He [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] is The One Who provides even if the children are many. The more children you have, the more provision you will be given. This is the correct (belief).

In this is evidence that the one who truly relies on Allah will (also) utilise the means (to attaining what he seeks after). The misguided one is he who says, “I will not utilise the means and I am one who relies on Allah”. This is not correct. The one who truly relies on Allah is he who utilises the means whilst depending on Allah [The Mighty and Majestic]. This is why he [i.e. the Prophet] said, “Then you would be provided (with sustenance), as the birds are (provided for). They go out early in the day with empty stomachs”. (The bird) goes out in search of sustenance and does not stay in its nest; rather it sets out early in search of sustenance. So, after truly depending on Allah, you must (also) take the means that Allah has provided in seeking permissible sustenance- through agriculture, trade, work and through any means of seeking sustenance. Seek sustenance whilst depending on Allah and Allah will make it easy for you to obtain it.

From the benefits of this hadith is that the birds and other than them among Allah’s creation do know Allah, as Allah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:

[تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتُ ٱلسَّبۡعُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِيہِنَّ‌ۚ وَإِن مِّن شَىۡءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمۡدِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفۡقَهُونَ تَسۡبِيحَهُمۡ‌ۗ – The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise, but you understand not their glorification]. [Al-Israa. 44]

See you not that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawab (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and many of mankind? But there are many (people) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allaah disgraces, none can honour him. Verily! Allaah does what He wills. [Al-Hajj. 18]

The birds do know their Lord [The Mighty and Majestic]. The bird seeks after the provision Allah has allocated for it through a natural disposition that guides it to what is beneficial for it, and returns to its nest in the early part of the evening with a full stomach. This is what it does everyday. Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] provides it with sustenance and makes it easy for it to obtain it. And look at the Wisdom of Allah?! How the birds set off early to a far away place and are guided back to their place of (residence) without failing to find it! (That is) because Allah gave to each thing its form and nature, then guided it aright. [1]

Shaikh Abdul Wahid Abu Khadeejah, may Allah preserve him, said:

“According to scientists, another cause of poverty is population growth in countries that cannot afford to feed the extra mouths. Most rich countries have a stable population with roughly as many babies born as people dying. However, in poor countries, the populations seem to be increasing. Muslims, as rule, are not allowed to use contraception due to fear of not being able to provide for their children – they learn from the Quran that Allah will enrich them from Himself from ways and means that He provides. Population control measures are not from the Islamically legislated means to remove poverty – this is proven by the fact that there is sufficient food and resources in the world to feed the poor many times over daily! Added to that is the reality that large populations are a tremendous resource for a nation. Countries with large populations are quite often the wealthiest and have the fastest growing economies. Note: In certain situations, contraception is permitted and I have discussed that elsewhere. Islam teaches that poor people must be helped with education, skills, charity, better infrastructure and better health care. In this way the poor are not neglected and the wealth of the rich is purified in the sight of Allāh through the giving of charity. People have large families because the family unit helps each other and they care for their elders. Death of young children is much higher in poorer countries due to sicknesses and disease. So, the Muslims have a duty to help the poor, even if they are non-Muslims. The Prophet said, ‘Give charity to people of other Religions'” (Shaikh Al-Albānī said it was an authentic Hadīth, in As-Saheehah). [2]

Indeed, the legacy of the arrogant and opinionated eugenicists is well-known- those who engaged in their useless quest for a genetic overclass and so called reproduction of only perfect people, and thus discriminated against everyone with the slightest disability or deficiency! The Nazis took this to the next level and committed atrocities – utilized eugenic ideology to justify large-scale forced sterilization and euthanasia. So called “Positive eugenics” paid close attention to encouraging those of so-called “good stock” to reproduce, but those considered unfit for reproduction, such as the poor, criminals or the feeble-minded were discouraged or prevented through so-called “Negative eugenics”. When this satanic idea was championed by some politicians and government officials, the wellbeing of the vulnerable in society was completely under the control of a people whose worldly sciences were devoid of the compassion, mercy and the upright moral character ordained by the creator of the heavens and the earth. The founder of the eugenics movement was called Francis Galton – [1822-1911]- and he was influenced by Charles Darwin’s kufr idea “The Origin of Species”. This Galton concentrated on the idea of heritability of different traits, especially the heritability of intelligence and how to counter society’s so-called scarcity of talent and character, and that poverty, vagrancy and crime were due to the transfer of degenerate traits from parents to their child. His satanic ideas influenced some so-called intellectuals in Britain, the US, Germany and other countries at the time. Indeed, all praise and thanks be to Allah, this not how a believer addresses problems in society, because it is nothing but seeking for scapegoats so as to justify neglect of the vulnerable in society. Some of those arrogant and opinionated eugenicists held that preventing the poor from having children was a means of protecting society because it stopped them from producing people similar to them. Thirty-two American states passed eugenic-sterilization laws during the twentieth century, and between sixty and seventy thousand people were sterilized under them. However, this had no effect in improving virtue. Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

“Among the most amazing of affairs is that many contemporary writers and politicians seek to remedy the many social ills and try to do so do from many angles, however as for the problem of deviation from the path of Allah -whose surge has carried away the majority of young people, they have not rushed to stop it by returning to sound faith and certainty; rather they have been abandoned to wander blindly in their misguidance and wavering in beguilement, and thus the social ills they seek to remedy gives birth to other social ills, because if the path to remedying social ills is not based on sound faith and sound religion, they will increase and become worse”. [3]

He [may Allah have mercy upon him] also said, “What type of progress is this? A progress whose people became like vicious wild animals and whose abiding practice is oppression, annihilation, colonization of weak nations and depriving them of their rights?” [4] The Imam also said, “They developed these affairs through a development that is disconnected and severed from submission to Allāh and the religion ordained by Allāh… it has caused harm and led its proponents to savagery and barbarism whose outcomes has been destruction, ruin and evils that has no comparison”. [5]

He said, “Indeed, it is impossible to rectify the souls and acquire virtue solely through the worldly sciences. Experience and clearly witnessed circumstances are the greatest proofs regarding this affair, because despite its advancement and vastness it has been unable to nurture and rectify the souls. What the Religion of Islam propagates is that which is entrusted with this rectification – it is what will guide the thoughts towards the truthful and authentic sources of knowledge and guide the actions of the people towards good and prevent them from evil. Islam is The Rectifier of the Creeds and Manners- the thing that cultivates the thoughts [upon righteousness], urges towards virtuousness and prevents from depravity. The essence of that which the religion calls to regarding belief in the Unseen, which includes belief in Allaah and that which He possesses of Names, Attributes and Actions of perfection; belief in Angels, belief in recompense for one’s good and bad deeds in this life and the next, which cannot be known except through the Messengers, is what acquaints a person with the fact that rectification – in reality – is not possible through other than sound belief and the religion of Islaam. Therefore, even if the worldly sciences rectify [some] affairs based upon that which people know in detail, it will still not be equal [in perfection, excellence etc] to the knowledge of the Messengers [in the least]. It will neither reach that which is reached through the knowledge of the Messengers nor can it influence the souls in the manner in which the knowledge of the Messengers has done; for indeed the souls do not voluntarily submit except through belief in Allaah, belief in His Angels, belief in His Books, belief in His Messengers and belief in the hereafter. And without this, voluntary submission is impossible, as is well known regarding human nature”. [6]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi, may Allah preserve him, said:

“The knowledge brought by the Prophets is rectification for the people, a guide for them towards the right path and removes them from the darkness they are living in – the darkness of disbelief and ignorance. As for the knowledge of the philosophers and the heretics, then what Allah has stated truly applies to it:

 فَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُواْ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَہۡزِءُونَ

Then when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were glad (and proud) with that which they had of the knowledge (of worldly things): And that at which they used to mock, surrounded them (i.e. the punishment)]. [Ghaafir 83]

It is the knowledge which the people boast about nowadays, whether it is medicine, engineering, astronomy, [modern] politics and economics. After the Prophets came to them – to remove them from the darkness of ignorance and enter them into the light of the knowledge and Iman, they were glad and boastful with the knowledge they possess, (just as Allah has stated): “Then when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were glad (and proud) with that which they had of the knowledge (of worldly things); and that at which they used to mock, surrounded them (i.e. the punishment)”. [Ghafir’ 83]

These sciences become a trial and tribulation if they are not regulated by the knowledge which Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] brought. [7]

Therefore, be warned against embracing the ideas of eugenicists regarding population control! Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked about a husband and a wife who agreed not to have children and whether this is allowed. He responded and said that this agreement of theirs is not permissible. As long as the woman is able [to bear children], then it is not permissible for them to do this because the Islamic legislation requires that the people give concern to bearing children and make the Ummah numerous. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, ‘Marry the childbearing, loving woman for I shall outnumber the peoples by you on the Day of Resurrection’. In another wording [of this narration the Prophet said], ‘Outnumber [i.e. the followers of the other] Prophets on the Day of Judgement’. That is because by way of this [i.e. having many children] those who worship Allah among the Muslims will be numerous, the Ummah will be numerous and strong in opposing their enemies.

It is not permissible for a man to abandon having children out of fear of either tiredness in seeking after a livelihood or due to difficulty, or due to expenditure, or due to a desire to enjoy one’s wife and other than that. It also not permissible for a woman to do this, rather it is obligated on both of them to pursue the means of having offspring -be eager to seek the means to having children so that the Ummah becomes numerous and to fulfil what the Prophet stated. However, if the woman either suffers a lot of pain due to an illness of the womb or she cannot give birth except by way of surgical operation, then this is an excuse to not have children. If the surgical operation [or caesarean] will harm her- it is feared that something will happen to her, and also if the children are many- born at close intervals and bringing them up becomes difficult upon her, then there is nothing to prevent her from taking some pills [or contraception] or some preventative measures for a year or two – the period of breastfeeding- so that she becomes strong enough to nurture the children and able to nurture the other newly born. [8]

Therefore, let the Muslim doctor fear Allah when consulted. A doctor must fear Allah with regards to those affairs about which one is consulted, especially that which is related to the rights of the people- such as when a sick person approaches him for a sick note or when in need of a medical note to prove that he is fit for employment, or when consulted regarding a particular type of medication, or whether the state of health of an individual (woman) allows her to utilise contraception in order not to get pregnant, or whether her state of health warrants the removal of her ovaries. It has been reported in a hadeeth by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him] who said that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: [الْمُسْتَشَارُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ – The consultee is in a position of trust]. [9]

[الْمُسْتَشَارُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ – The consultee is in a position of trust]. [المستشار -The Consultee]: He is the one whose opinion is sought after regarding an affair of Maslahah (i.e. an affair that will bring about benefit and repel harm). He is in a position of trust with regards to what he is asked and it is not permissible for him to deceive the one who consults him, by concealing the affair that would bring about benefit. [10]

This hadeeth is an evidence, showing that the consultee has to (advise) with the course of action and opinion -in relation to the consultation – that which he would do for himself. And it is not permissible that he directs his Muslim brother to something he would not be pleased with for himself. [11]

The eugenicists were deprived of this fear of Allah, rather they were opinionated and filled with arrogance, so they violated the rights of vulnerable people. Recently, thousands of Japanese – who were forcibly sterilised – will receive government compensation after the government passed legislation and the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe apologized to the victims on behalf of the government. Nearly 16,500 mentally disabled people were sterilized in Japan without their consent under the previous law that was abolished in 1996. Each victim is to receive $29,000. This started when a Japanese woman, now in her 60s, sued the government because she was sterilized in 1972 after diagnosed with a mental disability. Under Japan’s previous law, some leprosy patients were forced to have abortions because they were not allowed to have children. In 2005, a Japanese court ordered the government to compensate a leprosy patient who was wronged by this law. Germany and Sweden also had similar eugenics laws, but their governments have apologized and paid compensation to the victims.

Moral Responsibility Violated By Many Amongst Humankind

Allah [The Exalted] said:

Truly, We did offer Al-Amanah (the trust or moral responsibility or honesty and all the duties which Allah has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it (i.e. afraid of Allah’s Torment). But the human being bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results). [Surah Al-Ahzaab. Verse 72]

Abu Dharr [may Allah be pleased with him] reported that Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Allah – The Almighty – said: O My servants! I have forbidden injustice for Myself and I have forbidden it among you, so do not oppress one another’”. [Sahih Muslim 2577]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said: What is Dhulm -injustice or oppression? Dhulm [injustice (or oppression)] is of three types: the greatest of them is Shirk (i.e. to ascribe partners to Allah). And why is shirk referred as Dhulm [injustice]? That is because the basis of injustice is to place something in other than its rightful place, and the meaning of shirk is to direct acts of worship to other than its rightful place and this is the greatest injustice, because when they (i.e. the people of shirk) directed acts of worship to other than its rightful place and to those who are not deserving of it, they equated the created (beings) to the Creator, a weak one (i.e. a created being) to Al-Qawiy [The One Perfect in Strength (i.e. Allaah)], who is able to do everything. Therefore, is there any greater injustice after this? The second type of Dhulm (oppression or injustice) is committed when a person oppresses himself by committing sins. A sinner oppresses himself because he exposes himself to punishment, even though it is obligated on him to save himself and place himself in an appropriate situation, and that is to obey Allaah. The third type of Dhulm (oppression or injustice) is committed when a person oppresses others (or commits injustice against them) by taking their wealth (unlawfully), backbiting them, spreading tales about them, stealing their wealth, violating their honour through backbiting, tale carrying, slander, or shedding their blood by way of unlawful murder, beating them, inflicting injuries, degrading them without right etc [12]

Indeed, besides the disbelief of the colonialists – forefathers of the neocolonialists, they also commit oppression in different ways in the name of advancement and civilization. We read – in the history books – about the oppressive behaviour of the colonialists between the 15th and 18th centuries when they raided other lands, looted natural resources and transported millions of Africans to the US to work in the plantations. Listen below:

Then after this barbaric enterprise was abolished, it was replaced with another barbaric enterprise – neocolonialism. So, in 1884, the colonialists met in Berlin and decided to share the colonies between themselves. Then came a time in which they decided to offer a so called independence to the colonies and amazing indeed was this offer! In one offer of independence, the colonialists said to the colonized, “We’ll grant you independence, but before doing so you must agree to the following: you must deposit 85% of your bank reserves with our ministry of finance – under our central bank. And with regards to all your discovered minerals or yet to be discovered, our companies have the ‘Right of First Refusal’. Your official language has to be our language, we’ll have a military presence in your country, your military can only be trained by our military, you can only buy military equipment from us, you cannot have any military alliance with your neighbours and in the event of war you must be on our side”. This was the independence offered! The money deposited in their ministry of finance was invested in their name and all the profits belonged to them. This is how some of them treated the colonies, yet they have the audacity to tell the whole world that the countries they’ve looted and oppressed for nearly over 400 years are poor- the very countries they continue to oppress economically. In addition to this, they constantly seek to demoralize the former colonies and give their economic situations different descriptions- sometimes referring to them as “The Third World”, the “Under-developed countries”, the “Developing Countries” etc. All these descriptions are utilized to demoralize the former colonies. Many of the neocolonialists talk about ethics, but how many are just in their mutual dealings?! Rather, self-interested individuals and groups do not give concern to anything other than finding ways and devising tactics to enslave the former colonies through usury. Read here: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-grave-crime-of-usury-and-interest-riba-based-transactions-what-is-allowed-and-what-is-not/

Indeed, it is impossible for countries that are always in bondage to lenders to take control of their economies, because as soon as a nation is heavily in debt, the lenders can easily gain the upper hand through Structural Adjustment Policies (SAPs), which secures repayment of the debt and forces a county to adopt economic restructuring. So, in some cases, the weaker nation is forced to reduce spending on essential social services, such as healthcare provision, education and development, whilst repayment of the debt is given priority, as well as the possibility of giving the lender an easy access to the country’s raw materials. This is well known and whoever researches will come across a lot that has been written on the subject matter. Indeed, there is no benefit in providing financial assistance that is going to permanently make a nation dependent on another nation due to usury. Debt is a heavy burden, let alone when accompanied with usury. Aa’isha [may Allaah be pleased with her] narrated that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] used to invoke Allaah in the prayer [before the Tasleem] saying, “O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave and from the trial and affliction of Maseeh Ad-Dajjaal and from trial and affliction of life and death. O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from being in debt”. So somebody said to him, “Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allah from being in debt?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, “A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them)]”. [13]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] combined (in this supplication between seeking Allah’s refuge) from sins and debt because sins necessitate loss in the afterlife and debt necessitates loss in the worldly life”. [14]

Trade: Also with regards to buying and selling, Shaikh Abdul Wahid Abu Khadeejah [may Allah preserve him] stated: “The way that countries buy and sell with each other does not always help people in poor countries. Producers of crops like wheat and rice will usually sell to the country that will pay them the most for it, so poor countries cannot compete and therefore cannot buy crops to feed their people. So these poor people have to grow their own crops to feed themselves. In many poor countries the rich farmers grow cash crops such as fruit and flowers that they sell to rich countries and their profit often does not help the poor people. So the Muslim is always encouraged to give aid to those less fortunate, so that no one in the land remains hungry, unclothed or unsheltered. Islam has no problem with people becoming wealthy so long as the poor not are neglected; they must be taken care of, helped, educated and empowered to look after themselves. Wealthier Muslims are obligated to give in charity (zakāt) every year, and each Ramadān (zakāt al-fitr)”. [15]

Pay attention to what Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allah preserve him] stated above about empowering and educating poor people and what some of the greedy colonialists stated in the past! Cecil Rhodes stated: “We must find new lands from which we can easily obtain raw materials and at the same time exploit the cheap slave labour that is available from the natives of the colonies. The colonies would also provide a dumping ground for the surplus goods of our factories.” Nye Bevin stated: “Africa is a valuable source of manpower and raw materials. The US is very barren of essential minerals. In Africa we have them all.” Larry Summers stated: “I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country is impeccable and we should face up to that.” These were some of their views and its effects are still witnessed in our era in many previous colonies in Africa, Asia and elsewhere. This is the behaviour of a people mentioned in the Qur’an. Allah [The Exalted] said:

Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, and when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), on a Great Day, the Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? [Surah Al-Mutaffifeen]

Prophet Hud [peace be upon him] and His People

Allah [The Most High] said in Surah Hud Ayah 88 that Shu’aib [peace be upon him] said to his people: [يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّي – O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear evidence from my Lord]- Meaning: I am upon certainty and tranquillity regarding the correctness of [the Message] I have brought. [وَرَزَقَنِي مِنْهُ رِزْقًا حَسَنًا – and He (Allah) has given me a good sustenance from Himself]- Meaning: Allah has given me various types of wealth.

[وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَالِفَكُمْ إِلَىٰ مَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ – I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you]- Meaning: I do not wish to forbid you from [the evil practice of giving lower in weight and Measure by way of cheating in business transactions], yet I myself do the same and eventually you will charge me for doing so; rather I will not forbid you from an affair except that I will be the first person to hasten to abandon it; [إِنْ أُرِيدُ إِلَّا الْإِصْلَاحَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ – I only desire reform so far as I am able, to the best of my power]- Meaning: I do not have any other intentions [goals or aims] other than to rectify your state of affairs and the things that are of benefit to you. And because this statement of Shu’aib contains something which may indicate that he is attributing piety to himself, he repels it with the statement [وَمَا تَوْفِيقِي إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ – And my guidance cannot come except from Allah]-Meaning: The ability I have to do good and to refrain from evil is a bestowal from Allah [The Most High] and it is neither due to my strength nor power; [عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ – in Him I trust and unto Him I repent]- Meaning: I rely on Allah in all my affairs and suffice myself with Him. I turn to Allah in all the various acts of worship He has commanded me to draw close to Him by performing good deeds. By way of these two affairs- seeking aid and assistance from Allah, turning to Him in repentance, complete submission and obedience- a person’s state of affairs becomes upright, just as Allah [The Most High] said in another Aayah: [فَاعْبُدْهُ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَيْهِ– So worship Him (O Muhammad) and put your trust in Him]. [16]

Therefore, the affair is not about so called overpopulation, rather the problem is due to Kufr, which leads to every other evil, as Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Everyone with a bit of (sound) intellect knows that the corruption of the world and its ruin occurs due to giving precedence to opinion over the divine revelation and (evil) desires over sound intellect. These two corrupt motives are not entrenched in a heart except that its destruction becomes inevitable nor in a nation except that its affairs are completely corrupted”. [17]

Our Sins and Change of Circumstances

Allah says:

Evil (sins and disobedience of Allah, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

This Ayah was revealed regarding the state of affairs of the world- the relationship between it and the events that occur. You see how the occurrence of those evil actions and defects (of the people) affects the harvest, vegetation and the animals in every era, and the manner in which those evil (affairs) necessitates other evils. And whenever the people initiate oppression and wickedness, their Lord (The Blessed and Most High) brings about- from those evils and defects (of theirs)- deficiencies and harm in their nourishments, fruits, atmospheres, bodies, outward appearances and manners, as a justification for their deeds, acts of oppression and wickedness. The majority of the illnesses and the general evil affairs are remnants of the punishment inflicted upon the people of the previous nations; then there remained from that what remains, as a surprise punishment against those who remain upon the (evil) deeds of those previous nations. This is a just judgement and just decree. The Prophet has pointed out  this in his statement concerning plagues, that it is a remnant of an affliction or punishment that was sent by Allah to the Children of Israa’eel. [18]

Allah, The Most High, says:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah).

Imam Ibn Al-Jawzee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Whoever loves that the state of affairs should become rectified then let him strive in rectifying (his) deeds. Allah (The Mighty and Majestic) says:

وَأَن لَّوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاءً غَدَقًا

If they had believed in Allah, and went on the Right Way, We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance. [19]

The Danger of Sinning Whilst Receiving More Provision

Allah says:

Those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not. And I respite them; certainly My Plan is strong.

[سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم – We shall gradually seize them with punishment] – by granting them plentiful provision and respite until they think that they will neither be taken to task for their disobedience nor punished, so they increase in disbelief and transgression, and evil upon evil. And through this their punishment is increased and multiplied, so they harm themselves in ways they perceive not. This is why Allah says: [إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ -certainly My Plan is strong]. [20]

“We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not”.

Imam Sufyan Ath-Thawree, may Allah have mercy upon him,  said that this means, “Whenever they commit [major] sins, Allah bestows a blessing on them and make them forgetful of seeking forgiveness”. [21]

Istighfaar

Imam Al-Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy upon him, reported that Bin Subayh, may Allah have mercy upon him, mentioned that man complained to Imam Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may Allah have mercy upon him, about drought. Al-Hasan said to him, “Seek Allah’s forgiveness”. Another person complained about poverty, to which Al-Hasan similarly responded, “Seek Allah’s forgiveness”. A third person said to him, “Supplicate to Allah to grant me a child”, Al-Hasan again said to him, “Seek Allah’s forgiveness”. Then another complained about the dryness of his garden, Al-Hasan said to him, “Seek Allah’s forgiveness”. So, Rabee Bin Sibayh said to him, “Men came with different complaints and you commanded all of them to seek Allah’s forgiveness!” He replied: “I did not say anything from myself, rather Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, says in Surah Nuh:

فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا

يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا

وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَٰرًا

I (Nuh) said (to them): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; ‘He will send rain to you in abundance; and give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.” [22]

Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi al-Mad’khali [7 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Sufyan Ath-Thawri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Whoever lends an ear to a person of Bidah has left the protection of Allah and is entrusted to it (i.e. the bidah)”.

Al-Allamah Rabee bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Sufyan Ath-Thawri is one of the Imams of the Sunnah and personalities of guidance. He may have derived this speech from the Messenger’s warning against sitting with evil people who would inevitably cause harm and lead to dangerous consequences. Whoever opposes the Messenger’s warning has exposed himself to evil and is entrusted to himself. It is said to the one who lends an ear to ahlul bidah, “Do not do this because indeed the Messenger forbade and warned you, the pious predecessors forbade and warned you against sitting with ahlul bidah and acquiring (knowledge) from them”.

Once you say, “By Allah! I read, I listen, take the truth and abandon falsehood”, akin to the well-known principle at present by which many of the youth – who were following the path of the pious predecessors- have been made into a laughing stock; they came to them with this vile, corrupt principle, saying, “Read from the books of Ikhwan (1), the books of Tabligh (2), the books of ahlul bidah, Sufism (3) and the Rawafid (4), accept the truth and abandon the falsehood. He (i.e. the one who reads) is a Miskeen (poor in his knowledge of these affairs)- neither acquainted with truth nor can distinguish between it and falsehood, thus he approaches falsehood, considers it to be truth, and accepts it; approaches truth, considers it to be falsehood and rejects it, thus he strays. Allah entrusts this person to himself because had he adhered firmly to the Sunnah, and listened to the Messenger’s guidance, the stance of the Messenger’s companions and the pious predecessors, preserves the good he has – meaning the Sunnah, he would have been saved; but he became deceived, then Allah entrusts him to himself due to this self-deception and self-importance that some people embark upon; depend on himself and considers himself a leader in knowledge, whilst he is an ignoramus; so, he falls into the traps of people of misguidance- quickly deviates and become one of the people of misguidance because Allah forsakes and entrust him to himself.

Due to this, we say: the one who is not safe from falling into the traps of the people of misguidance, it is obligated to him to avoid the books of the people of bidah – (avoid) sitting with them because indeed the Messenger warned against sitting with them and the pious predecessors warned against sitting with them; rather, they held a consensus to boycott and ostracise them – not to expose oneself to them and their call, except the one who is well established in knowledge, the one with ability to establish the proof against them whilst being cautious, warning against sitting with them and not to incline towards them. As for the weak – the Miskeen – who is shaken by the light wind and it makes him fall (i.e. the one who cannot repel the doubts of ahlul bidah), it is obligated to him to preserve the good that Allah has bestowed on him because nothing can be equal to safety.

The one who has the ability and experience – able to call to the path of Allah with wisdom and persuade the people of falsehood, he embarks upon calling them (to the truth), whilst not being in agreement with them, not sitting with them and flattering them; but rather he should be a Mujahid, a caller to the path of Allah, a sincere adviser, enjoining good and forbidding evil. This is the one who embarks upon calling the people of falsehood (to truth) and clarifies the truth to them; then the one who is guided, alhamdulil laah; but if not, he has established the proofs that Allah has obligated to the inheritors of the Prophets (i.e. the scholars) to establish. The Prophets were callers to the path of Allah, they invited the unbelievers to (the truth) and called the sinners (to the truth), and you are one of the inheritors of the Prophets, therefore, call these (people to the truth) and establish the proofs against them, but we do not say that this task is for everyone – that every Tom, Dick, and Harry intermingles with ahlul bidah and advise them; rather we say that this is for the people of knowledge, those well established in knowledge, the strong ones. As for those other than them – the ignoramuses and the ones with weak personalities, we warn and tell them to be on guard against the outcomes that descend on the one who is deceived by himself, so he becomes one from ahlul bidah and misguidance. By Allah we know people from different Arab and Islamic countries who used to be upon good, then they were captured by this trick- meaning, read, read, take the truth and reject falsehood, but he was not seen thereafter except that he was from the villains of ahlul bidah, waging war against Ahlus sunnah, defending the people of falsehood. We ask Allah for wellbeing. [End of quote] [An Excerpt from “Awnul Baaree Bi-Bayaan Maa Tadammanahu Sharhus Sunnah Lil-Imam Al-Barbahaaree”. 2/970-972. slightly paraphrased]

Some Narrations That Bring Happiness to Those Who Follow The Pious Predecessors-By Shaikh Khalid Adh-Dhafiri

Shaikh Khalid Adh-Dhafiri, may Allah preserve him, stated:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

These are some of the Aathaar as-Salafiyyah and Aqwaal Al-Athariyah [I] that illustrate the obligation of harbouring hatred and disdain for the proponents of innovation in religious matters for the sake of Allāh. I present this to the seeker of truth and the one who follows the path of the (pious) predecessors, so that they may act upon them and traverse the footsteps of his  predecessors. These Aathaar bring happiness to those who follow the pious predecessors, while they may anger others who despise the Salafi methodology and accuse them of Kharijiyyah. [II] We ask Allah for wellbeing.

It has been reported from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, that he said, “There is not a people on earth who are more hated to me than the Qadariyyah [III] who come to me and dispute with me about Qadr, and that is only because they do not know Allah’s Qadr, and that indeed Allah, The All-Mighty and Majestic, cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned”. [Reported by Al-Aajuree in Ash-Sharee’ah. page 213]

It has been reported from Ibn Awn, may Allah have mercy upon him, that he said, “There was no people more hateful to Muhammad – meaning Ibn Seereen, may Allah have mercy upon him, – than people who newly invented that which they newly invented in this subject matter of Qadr”. [Reported by Al-Aajuree in Ash-Sharee’ah. page 219]

Shu’bah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Sufyaan Ath-Thawri, may Allah have mercy upon him, used to hate ahlul ahwaa [IV] and severely warned against sitting with them”. [Reported by Nasr Bin Ibraaheem Al-Maqdisee (may Allah have mercy upon him) in Mukhtasar Al-Hujjah Alaa Taarik Al-Mahajjah. page 460]

Al-Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Malik (i.e. Imaam Maalik) used this verse as evidence for having enmity against the Qadariyyah and not to sit with them. Ash’hab, may Allah have mercy upon him, reported from Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, who said, ‘Do not sit with the Qadariyyah and I show them enmity for the sake Allah due to Allah’s statement: [لا تجد قوماً يؤمنون بالله واليوم الآخر يوادون من حاد الله ورسوله – You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger]. [Tafseer Qurtubi 17/308]

Al-Bayhaqi, may Allah have mercy upon, him stated, whilst speaking about Ash-Shaafi’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, “Ash-Shaafi’ee dealt harshly with ahlul ilhaad [V] and ahlul bidah – openly declaring his hatred and boycotting them”. [Manaaqib Ash-Shaafi’ee. 1/469]

Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, stated: “If a man gives Salaams to a Mubtadi, it indicates that he loves him” [Tabaqaat al-Hanabilah, 1/196].

This demonstrates that it is not permissible to love the proponents of innovation in religious matters.

Ibnul Mubarak, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “O Allah! Do not allow a proponent of innovation in religious matters to have a (hand in my affairs, gain the upper hand with something of worldly benefit, or extend a favour to me), thus my heart loves him”. [Reported by Al-Laalikaa’ee in Sharh Usool Ittiqaad Ahlia Sunnati Wal-Jamaa’ah 1/140]

One of the signs of the truth is having hatred for those who adhere to religion based on desires, and whoever loves the truth has to hate ahlul ahwaa – meaning ahlul bidah”. [Seerah As-Saliheen 3/1154 and Al-Hilyah 10/392 by Abu Nu’aym (may Allah have mercy on both of them)] [End of quotes] https://aldhafiri.net/?p=1234

Footnote IV: Who are Ahlul Ahwaa? [The People of Desires]: Shaikh Al-Islam, may Allah have mercy upon him] also said, “It is well known that the (act) of shunning by those who (express their) aversion or the love of those who are in agreement is neither an indication of the correctness nor corruption of a statement, except when it is based on guidance from Allah; rather merely (utilising) a statement as proof (without guidance from Allah) is tantamount to following desires. Allah, The Most High, says: [ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرً۬ا لَّيُضِلُّونَ بِأَهۡوَآٮِٕهِم بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٍ‌ۗ – And surely many do lead (mankind) astray by their own desires through lack of knowledge]. [Al-An’am. 119]

Allah, The Most High, says: [ فَإِن لَّمۡ يَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لَكَ فَٱعۡلَمۡ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ‌ۚ وَمَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ بِغَيۡرِ هُدً۬ى مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ – But if they answer you not (i.e. do not believe in your doctrine of Islamic Monotheism, nor follow you), then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah?] [Al-Qasas. 50]

Allah, The Most High, said to Dawud, peace be upon him,: [وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ – And follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allah]. [Surah Saad. Verse 26]

Allah says: [ فَإِن شَهِدُواْ فَلاَ تَشْهَدْ مَعَهُمْ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَاء الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِآيَاتِنَا وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ وَهُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ – Then if they testify, testify not you (O Muhammad) with them. And you should not follow the vain desires of such as treat Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) as falsehoods, and such as believe not in the Hereafter, and they hold others as equal (in worship) with their Lord]. [Al-An’am. 150]

Allah says: [قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡڪِتَـٰبِ لَا تَغۡلُواْ فِى دِينِڪُمۡ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَ قَوۡمٍ۬ قَدۡ ضَلُّواْ مِن قَبۡلُ وَأَضَلُّواْ ڪَثِيرً۬ا وَضَلُّواْ عَن سَوَآءِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ – Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Exceed not the limits in your religion (by believing in something) other than the truth, and do not follow the vain desires of people who went astray in times gone by, and who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the Right Path)”. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Verse 77]

So whoever follows the desires of the people after (clarification of) the knowledge Allah has revealed to His Messenger and the guidance He clarified for His slaves, then he (i.e. such a person) has a resemblance (to those regarded as followers of desires). And due to this, the proponents of religious innovations and factionalism – those who oppose the Quran and authentic Prophetic path – were named Ahlul Ahwaa [the people of desires] by the pious predecessors because of the fact that they accept what they love and reject what they hate based on their desires without guidance from Allah. [Majmoo Al-Fataawaa 4/189-190]

Footnote V: Ahlul ilhaad [Those guilty of ilhaad]. What is ilhaad? The word il’haad has a linguistic and customary meaning. Linguistically it means to turn away from obedience to Allah, either by abandoning an obligation or committing something unlawful. Allaah said: [وَمَن يُرِدْ فِيهِ بِإِلْحَادٍ بِظُلْمٍ نُّذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ – And whoever inclines to evil actions therein or to do wrong (i.e. practice polytheism and leave Islamic Monotheism), him We shall cause to taste a painful torment]. [Surah Al-Hajj. Aayah 25]

So, based on this Aayah everyone who is disobedient to Allah is a Mul’hid. However, il’haad is categorised into two types: a type that expels a person from Islam and it necessitates disbelief, and the type that does not expel a person from Islam and it necessitates sinfulness. As for the customary meaning, it is to reject the fact that Allah alone has the right to be worshipped, rejecting Allaah’s existence, or a Muslim becoming an apostate. [Listen here by Imam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him):

A Brief Mention of Noble and Beloved Companion -Mu’aawiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Indeed this illustrious companion of the Messenger [peace and blessing of Allah be upon him] has a high station and status in the sight of the people who follow the authentic Sunnah and the truth. And even before this station and status of his in the sight of the people who follow the authentic Sunnah and truth, he has a high station in the sight of Allaah’s Messenger. And one of those virtues is that he was a companion of the Messenger and a relative of his through marriage ties [i.e. the Messenger married Muaawiyah’s sister, Umm Habeebah], and he was also from the scribes who wrote down the revelation sent down to the believers through the Messenger.

Indeed the Prophet made a great supplication for him. Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Abee Umayra [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said to Mu’aawiyyah [may Allah be pleased with him], “O Allah! Make him a guide, one guided to the (straight path) and guide (others) by way of him”.

Irbaad Ibn Saariyah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “I heard the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] saying, ‘O Allaah! Teach Mu’aawiyyah the Book (i.e. the Qur’aan) and Al-Hisaab (i.e. knowledge of math, arithmetic, accounting etc) and protect him from the punishment’”.

Umm Haram, may Allah be pleased with her, reported that she heard the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying, “Paradise will be granted to the first batch of my followers who will undertake a naval expedition”. (Umm Haram added): I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Will I be amongst them?” He replied: “You are amongst them” The Prophet then said, “The first army amongst my followers who will invade Caesar’s city will be forgiven their sins’. I asked, ‘’Will I be one of them, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “No”. Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “Al-Muhallab [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: This hadeeth contains [an outstanding virtue] of Mu’aawiyyah because he was the first to undertake a naval expedition”.

Muaawiyah has (virtues with regards to performance of great Jihaad in making uppermost the Allah’s statement (or statement) لا إله إلا الله –None has the right to be worshiped except Allaah]; conquests (i.e. in order that mankind may single out Allaah in worship and abandon everything worshiped besides Allaah) and other distinguished virtues. And (from those distinguished virtues of Mu’aawiyyah) are: Mutual tolerance, kindness, forbearance, patience and justice. And if he had nothing else other than the virtue of being a companion of the Messenger, it would have been sufficient for him.

Abdullaah Ibul Mubaarak [may Allaah have mercy upon him] was asked about Mu’aawiyyah, so he said: “What should I say about a man who (when) the Messenger said: [سمع الله لمن حمده (i.e. in the prayer], he said [ربنا ولك الحمد i.e. whilst praying] behind him”. It was said to him (i.e. Abdullaah Ibnul Mubaarak): “Who is more virtuous-him (i.e. Mu’aawiyyah) or Umar Bin Abdul-Azeez?” He said: “The dust that was in Mu‘aawiyah’s nosetrill whilst he was with Allaah’s Messenger is better and more virtuous than Umar Bin Abdul Azeez [may Allah have mercy upon him]! [1]

Narrated Ibn Abee Mulaikah [may Allah have mercy upon him] who said, “Mu’aawiyah [may Allah be pleased with him and his father] offered one rak`’ah of Witr prayer after the `Isha prayer, and at that time a freed slave of Ibn `Abbas [may Allah be pleased with him and his father] was present. He (i.e. the slave) went to Ibn `Abbas (and told him that Mu’aawiyah offered one rak’ah of Witr prayer). Ibn Abbas said, “Leave him, for he was in the company of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).” [2]

Narrated Ibn Abi Mulaikah: Somebody said to Ibn Abbas, “Can you speak to the chief of the believers Mu’aawiyah, because he does not pray except one rak’ah as witr?” Ibn `Abbas replied, “He is a Faqih (a learned man with sound understanding and fear of Allah). [3]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

Indeed, it has been established by way of Mutawaatir transmissions that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] did give Mu’aawiyah [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] a position of authority (in an affair) just as he gave authority to others. He (Mu’aawiyah) performed Jihad with the Prophet and was considered trustworthy by the Prophet to write the revelation for him. The Prophet did not accused him of anything with regards to his writing and Umar Ibn Al-Khattab [may Allaah be pleased with him] – who was one of those well informed regarding the affair of men and Allah manifested truth from his tongue and heart – never accused Mu’aawiyah of anything in his position of authority. [4]

Umar Bin Abdil Azeez [may Allah have mercy upon him] and his justice was mentioned in the presence of Al-A’mash [may Allah have mercy upon him], so he said, “Then how about if you lived during the time of Mu’aawiyah [may Allah be pleased with him and his father]? They said, “O Abu Muhammad! Do you mean in his forbearance?” He said, “No, by Allah; rather his justice”. [5]

On the authority of Al-Jarrah Al-Mawsulee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] who said, “I heard a man ask Al-Ma’aafee Bin Imran [may Allah have mercy upon him], saying, ‘O Abu Mas’ud! Where is Umar Bin Abdul Aziz compared to Mu’aawiyah Bin Abee Sufyan?’ I saw him become very angry, then he said, ‘No one can be compared to the companions of Muhammad. Mu’aawiyah [may Allah be pleased with him and his father] is one the Prophet’s scribes, companions, brothers in law and trustees of the revelation revealed to him (i.e. he was trusted by the Prophet to write down the revelation)”. [6]

Some of The Conquests

In the year 22 AH, the Islamic armies proceeded to the lands of Al-Baab to conquer it. Those lands were inhabited by the Turks, and there the commander of the Islamic army, Abdur Rahmaan Ibn Rabee’ah, met the Turkish king Shahr Baraz. He asked Abdur Rahmaan to make peace and showed willingness to participate in the Islamic army to fight the Armenians.

Abdur Rahmaan sent him the commander Saraqah Ibn Amr, so he received Suraaqah and accepted him. Then he wrote to the Khaleefah Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] informing him of the matter, Umar agreed to what he did and as a result of that, a peace treaty was made and no fighting occurred between the Turks and the Muslims; but rather everyone proceeded to the Armenian lands to conquer them and spread Islam there. The Islamic armies marched to conquer the lands in northeastern Persia until the call to the path of Allah spread in those lands after the fall of the Persian empire, which was an impregnable barrier in front of the Islamic armies. As a result of the Islamic conquests, the door was open for the people of those countries and regions to move freely, including the Turks. Contact was made with the Muslims, and the Turks embraced Islam and joined the ranks of the Mujahideen to spread Islam and raise the word of Allah.

During the Khilaafah of Uthmaan Bin Affaan [may Allah be pleased with him], Tabaristan was conquered, and then the Muslims crossed the Jeihon River in the year 31 AH. They went to the lands beyond the river, and many Turks entered the religion of Islam and became defenders of it and participated in Jihad to spread the call to the path of Allaah. The Islamic armies continued to advance in those regions, so Bukhara was conquered during the Khilaafah of Muaawiyah Bin Abee Sufyan [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father], and these victorious armies penetrated until they reached Samarkand. And as soon as the era of the Islamic state appeared, all the countries beyond the river came under the justice of Islamic rule and these peoples lived under a well established Islamic civilization.

The number of Turks in the court of the caliphs and the Abbasid princes increased and they began to assume leadership and administrative positions in the state, they became soldiers, leaders and writers, and were calm and obedient until they gained the ranks. And when Al-Mu’tasim al-Abbaasee took over the caliphate, he opened the doors to Turkish influence and assigned them to the leadership positions of the state and thus they became involved in state affairs, his policy was aimed at reducing the Persian influence, which had free hand in the administration of the Abbasid state since the era of the Al-Ma’moon’s caliphate. Al-Mu’tasim’s interest in the Turkish caused a state of severe discontent between the people and the soldiers. Al-Mu’tasim feared the people’s vengeance so he established a new city, Samarra, about 125 km from Baghdad, where he lived with his soldiers and supporters. Therfeore, since that date, the Turks began to appear in important roles on the stage of Islamic history, until they established a large Islamic state that had strong ties to the successors of the Abbasid state, known as the Seljuk state. The Rafidah: Enemies of The Sahabah

A man asked Imam AbuBakr Ibn Ayyash, may Allah have mercy upon him, “O AbuBakr! Who is considered a Sunni?” He replied, “The one who, when the vain desires (the sects and innovations in religious matters) are mentioned (criticsed), he does not become angry about any of them (being criticised).” [Al-I’tisam 1/106]

Similarities Between The Rafidah and The Followers of The Distorted and Abrogated Religions

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] stated:

Yahud said that leadership is not suitable except for a man from the family of Dawood. The Raafidah say that leadership is not suitable except for a man from the children of Ali Bin Abee Taalib [may Allah be pleased with him]. Yahud delayed the evening prayer until the stars appeared, and the Raafidah also delay it. Yahud distort the (verses and meaning of the) Torah and the Raafidah distort the (verses and meanings of the) Qur’an. Yahud hate Jibreel (peace be upon him) and they say, “He is our enemy amongst the Angels”. A group amongst the Raafidah say that Jibreal made a mistake by giving the revelation to Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], rather, he was sent to Ali. Yahud used to hate the Sahaabah and Raafidah hate the Sahaabah. Nasaaraa innovated many religious holidays and Raafidah (innovated religious holidays) for the days when Umar and Uthmaan [may Allah be pleased with them] were murdered. Nasaaraa make pictures of Eesaa and Maryam (peace be upon them) and place them in their churches- exalt them and prostrate to them. Raafidah make pictures of their Imams, and exalt them; rather they make Sujud to them and to their graves. [8]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Ar-Rafd (i.e. the belief of the raafidah) is the greatest door to (major) hypocrisy and heresy”. [9]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “The raafidah are those who rejected the Sunnah of the friend of Ar-Rahmaan [i.e. Ar-Rahmaan (Allaah) and His Friend is Muhammad -peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and they followed the footsteps of shaytaan in the majority of their affairs”. [10]

Imam Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “They are a forsaken group and a despicable sect that follow ambiguities and abandon the entirely clear affairs that have been determined by the Imams of Islam among the Sahaabah, the Taa’bi’een and those who came after them among the scholars who are (highly) recognised in all eras and regions of the earth.” [11]

They have a festival on the 18th of Dhul Hijja, which they consider to be more virtuous than Eidul Adhaa and Eidul Fitr. They call this festival Eidul Kabeer and it is the festival of Ghadeer Khum. They make fasting on this day a highly recommended and emphasised Sunnah. They  exalt the festival of Nayrooz and it is from the festivals of Persia. Some of them say that to take a bath on the Day of Nayrooz is Sunnah. They have a festival on the 9th of Rabi Al-Awwal and it is the festival on behalf of their forefather (Baaba Shujaa Ad-Deen), and that is Abu LuLu’a the fire worshiper who killed Umar Ibnul Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with him. [12]

Imam Laalikaa’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, reported that Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Whoever curses the companions of Allaah’s Messenger has no right to the war booty. Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] says: [لِلۡفُقَرَآءِ ٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُخۡرِجُواْ مِن دِيَـٰرِهِمۡ وَأَمۡوَٲلِهِمۡ يَبۡتَغُونَ فَضۡلاً۬ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَٲنً۬ا – (And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allah and to please him (Surah Al-Hashr. Aayah 8)]. These are the companions of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who migrated with him. Then Allah says: [وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلۡإِيمَـٰنَ  – And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith]. These are the Ansaar.

Then Allah says: [وَٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَلِإِخۡوَٲنِنَا – And those who came after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith].

Therefore, the war booty is for these three [categories of people]– whoever curses the companions of the Messenger of Allah is not counted amongst [these people] and he has no right to the war booty. [13]

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked: Based on the knowledge of your eminence of the history of the Raafidah [Shittes]. What is your position regarding initiating the coming together between Ahlus-Sunnah and between them?

Answer: “The coming together of Ahlus-Sunnah and the Raafidhah is not possible because the beliefs are different. The Belief of the Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah is to single out Allah alone with worship and sincerely making worship for Allah, The Most Perfect, The Most High, and not to call upon anyone along with Him, neither an Angel drawn close nor a Prophet sent.

And it is Allah who knows the matters of the Unseen. And from the belief of the Ahlus-Sunnah is love of the Companions, may Allaah be pleased with all of them and He is pleased with them ? and to believe that they are the most excellent of the creation of Allaah after the Prophets, and the best of them is Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq, then ‘Umar, then ‘Uthmaan, then ‘Alee, may Allaah be pleased with all of them. And the Raafidhah oppose this, so there is no reconciling between the two [beliefs], just as there is no reconciling between the Jews, the Christians, the idol-worshippers and the Ahlus-Sunnah. So for this reason there is no coming closer between the Raafidhah and between the Ahlus-Sunnah due to the differing beliefs as we have clarified.”

Question: Is it possible/permissible to fight alongside them (i.e. the Raafidhah) against the foreign enemy such as the communists and so on?

Answer: “I don’t see that to be possible/permissible. Rather it is obligatory upon Ahlus-Sunnah to be united and be a single ummah, a singular body and to invite the Raafidhah to adhere to whatever is indicated by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) by way of the Truth. If they cling to that, they will be our brothers and upon us would be to co-operate with them. And so long as they continue upon that which they are upon from hatred of the Companions except for a few of them; so their cursing of As-Siddeeq (Abu Bakr) and ‘Umar and their worship of the household of the Prophet such as ‘Alee, may Allah be pleased with him, and of Fatimah, Hasan and Hussain, and likewise their belief in the twelve Imams that they are infallible and that know the affairs of the Unseen– all this is from the most false of falsehoods; All of this opposes that which Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah are upon.” [14]

Leading Figureheads of The Rafidah

Abdullah Bin Sabah

Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadi al-Waadi’ee [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated:

Abu Ya’laa [may Allah have mercy upon him] reported in his Musnad from Al-Jalaas [may Allah have mercy upon him] who said: I heard Ali [may Allah be pleased with him] saying to Abdullah Bin Saba, “Indeed, there will be thirty liars at the approach of the hour, and you are one of them”. Abdullah Bin Saba had followers and they were called the Saba’iyyoon. They believe that Godhead is with Ali. Ali burnt them with fire during his Khilaafah. Do not think that the followers of Abdullaah Bin Saba have perished, (rather) there is that leader of misguidance, Khomeini, who displays jealousy for Islam, yet he destroys its pillars. Some of the ignorant ones amongst the Muslim Brotherhood (Sect) were deceived by Khumeini, and they used to mention him on the pulpits; but when the Book titled, “Jaa’a Dawrul Majoos” came out, they were shaken. They kept quiet and did not praise Khomeini (anymore). Perhaps the Muslims will take a lesson from the story of Abdullah Bin Saba and be warned against the machinations and filth of the Raafidah because their call is based on deception.

The Saba’iyyoon are the companions of Abdullah Bin Saba, who said to Ali, “You are; you are”- meaning, “You are the deity”. Haafidh Adh-Dhahabi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “Abdullah Bin Saba was from the extremists amongst the heretics- misguided and misguiding others”. Ibn Asaakir [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “He was originally from Yemen; a Jew who manifested Islaam, traveled around the Muslim lands to turn them away from obedience to their leaders and to bring about evil between them, and he entered into Damascus for that reason”.

Al-Mugheerah Bin Sa’eed

Al-Haafidz Adh-Dhahabi [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Al-Meezaan and Al-Haafidz Ibn Hajr [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Lisaan Al-Meezaan (6/75): “Al-Mugheerah Bin Sa’eed Al-Bajalee Al Koofee- the Raafidi, the liar”.

Ibn Adee [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “There was none in Kufa more cursed than Al-Mugheerah Bin Saeed due to the falsehood he narrated about Ali [may Allah be pleased with him]. He was always telling lies about the family of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and he had no chain of narration for what he narrated”. Al A’mash [may Allah have mercy upon him] asked the heretic Al-Mugheerah Bin Saeed, “Did Ali use to give life to the dead?” He replied, “By the One in whose hand my soul is, had Ali wished, he could have brought Aad and Thamud back to life”.

Ishaaq Bin Muhammad An-Nakha’ee Al-Ahmar

Haafidh Ad-Dhahabee [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Al-Meezaan and Ibn Hajr [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Lisaanul Meezaan (1/370): “Ishaaq Bin Muhammad An-Nakha’ee Al-Ahmar was a liar and a deviant amongst the Ghulaat (extremists)”.

Al-Khateeb [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: I heard Abdul Waahid Bin Ali Al-Asadee [may Allah have mercy upon him] saying: “Ishaaq Bin Muhammad An-Nakha’ee was upon a filthy school of thought, and he said that Ali [may Allah be pleased with him] is Allah [The Mighty and Majestic]”.

Al-Hasan Bin Yahyaa An-Nawbakh’tee (a) [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in his book titled Ar-Radd Alal Ghulaat [A refutation against the extremists]: “Ishaaq Bin Muhammad Al-Ahmar claimed that Ali [may Allah be pleased with him] is Allah [Glorified be Allah and free is He from all imperfections] and that Ali manifested himself in Al-Hasan, and then in Al-Husain [may Allah be pleased with them], and that Ali was the one who sent Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] as a Messenger”.

These are some of the fairy tales and lies of the Raafidah and (none) can protect you from these falsehoods except Allah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections]. Therefore, you should hold fast to the Book (of Allaah) and the (authentic) Sunnah of His Messenger, and Allah guides whomsoever He pleases to the straight path. And do not think that these fairy tales have ceased and decreased, (rather) due to these fairy tales, the Raafidah of Iran are still waiting for the emergence of Muhammad Bin Al-Hasan Al-Askari. (b) [15]

(a) Al-Hasan Bin Yahyaa An-Nawbakh’tee [may Allah have mercy upon him] should not be confused with Hasan Ibn Musa An-Nawbakh’tee who was a Shia writer.

(b) They claim that this Hasan Al-Askari is hiding in a tunnel waiting to emerge.

Innovators Hide behind Great Imams of Sunnah to Spread their Innovations – Shaykh Rabee

This behaviour is one of the behaviours of the people of innovation and discord, it is inevitable that they (attempt to) hide behind a prominent figure. The Qadariyyah hid behind Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullah) and wrote, spread and composed treatises falsely and deceitfully attributing the deviant belief regarding Al-Qadr to Al-Hasan, although he was not one of them and perhaps they still claim that Al-Hasan Al-Basri was one of them – may Allah disfigure them and absolve him of them.

The Khawarij were hiding behind another great figure, Abu Al-Sha’tha Jabir bin Zaid, one of the elder students of Ibn Abbas behind whom the Khawarij hid.

These are the tricks of the people of innovation in religious matters, because their innovations do not spread if they do not hide behind the Imams of Islam, and you see that the Ash’aris attach themselves to the Imams, meaning: a man from the Ash’aris may have a Maliki school of thought [in the subsidiary matters], but he attributes his Ashari Aqeedah to Malik and his Sufism he attributes to Malik, and likewise the Maturidis claim to be affiliated with Abu Hanifah and they are Maturidis, and their school of thought is derived from the school of thought of Jahm ibn Safwan, and all the people of deviant paths hide behind the Imams of Islam, the Zaidis hide behind Zaid, the Rafidis hide behind Ja’far al-Sadiq and Ahl al-Bayt, because their rejected creeds do not spread except through tricks and hiding behind the Imams. This is what many people do. The Qutubiyyah hav not spread except due to hiding behind Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, Ibn Baz, al-Albani, Ibn Uthaymeen, and other respected figures who are accepted by the people of sunnah worldwide. They say: We are students of Ibn Baz, we follow the methodology of the Salaf, and we are from the students of al-Albani, we are students of Ibn Uthaymeen. They deceive people that these imams are with them. Their tricks/deceit fool many young people who love knowledge, love scholars, love Islam, and love the truth. However, the tricks of these people deceive many people, and they fall into their traps.

Allah Exposes Those Who Feign Adherence to the Truth – Shaykh Abdus Salaam Burjis

Today there are many who ascribe to the Sunnah and adorn themselves with the clothing of the people of Sunnah, so much so that it is not possible (for many) to distinguish between the true people of Sunnah and other than them in an easy manner, and those who wear the garbs of Sunnah and pretend to adhere to the Sunnah do not do so except in order to destroy the unity of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah, attempting to split their ranks, and pitting them against one another. All of this in order to raise the banner of innovation and so that it’s armies prevail, however:

يَمْكُرُونَ وَيَمْكُرُ اللَّهُ ۖ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرُ الْمَاكِرِين

they were plotting and Allah too was planning, and Allah is the Best of the planners. (Al-Anfaal: 30)

Therefore, no matter how much someone infiltrates or hides among the People of Sunnah and no matter how deceptively he puts on their garbs, Allah will tear his cover away and expose his affair, a person does not hide (amongst the people of Sunnah), except that Allah, Glory be to Him, the Most High, brings his hidden affair out through slips of the tongue and expressions of the face.

A Brief Reminder to Those Who Refer to Us as “Super or Extreme Salafis”

A Brief Reminder to Those Who Refer to Us as “Super or Extreme Salafis” When We Demand  Clarity Based On The Distinct Methodology of The Pious Predecessors

You Have Grown Weary of The Detailed Discourse That Delineates The Fine Line Between Truth and Falsehood

 Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ سَبِيلُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

And thus do We explain the signs (to you O Muḥammad) in detail, and so that the way of the criminals may become evident (to you). [Surah Al-An’aam. Ayah 55] [1]

Imam Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Allah [The Exalted] stated that just as He explained what was previously explained of the arguments and evidence on the path of guidance and sound judgment, and censured argumentation and stubbornness; likewise, He explains the signs (proofs, evidence, lessons), which those being addressed need; [ولتستبين سبيل المجرمين – and so that the way of the criminals may become evident]- Meaning, so that the path of the criminals – those who oppose the Messengers – may become evident. [2]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Those who know Allah, His Book, and the religion He has ordained are acquainted with the path of the believers and that of the criminals in detail- the two paths are visible to them, just as a path leading to its destination and the path leading to destruction is made visible. They are the most knowledgeable among the creation- the ones who benefit (the people) the most, the ones with the most useful advice and they are evidence of right guidance. This is why the Sahaabah (companions of the Prophet) have excelled over all those to come after them until the Day of Judgment because they were brought up upon the path of misguidance, Shirk, and the paths leading to destruction, and they knew them in detail; then the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] came to them and took them out from darkness (and entered them) into complete light- from shirk (polytheism) into Tawheed (pure Islamic Monotheism), from ignorance into knowledge, from misguidance into guidance, from injustice into justice, from confusion and blindness into guidance and clear-sightedness. They knew the worth of that which they received and were triumphant by way of it. They knew the worth of that which was contained in what they received since what is in opposition to the (truth and right guidance) manifests the goodness of what it opposes because affairs are made clear by way of their opposites. So, they (Sahaabah) increased in desire and love of that which they embraced, disliked, and hated that which they had turned away from. And of all the people, they had the most love for Tawheed, Imaan, and Islam, and had the most hatred for that which was in opposition to it. They were the most knowledgeable of the (right) path in detail.

As for those who came after the Sahaabah, among them, is one who was brought up in Islam but knows not what is in opposition to it. Therefore, some of the details of the path of the believers and that of the criminals became confusing to him because confusion occurs due to the weakness of one’s knowledge regarding both paths or one of them, as Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] said, “The robust signposts of Islam will be undone one after the other when a people who grew up in Islam know not what Jaahiliyyah [Pre-Islamic Ignorance] is”. This (statement shows an aspect of) Umar’s perfect knowledge. There is that one who is neither acquainted with the path of the criminals nor has it been made clear to him, or he has doubts and thus thinks that some of their ways are from the ways of the believers. This has occurred in this Ummah in many affairs of Creed, Knowledge, and deeds regarding the path of the criminals, the disbelievers, and the enemies of the Messengers, (which) was brought into the path of the believers by the one who does not know the (detailed distinction between) the path of believers and the path of the criminals, so he called to (this path), excommunicated the one in opposition and declares lawful that which Allah and His Messenger made unlawful, just as what has occurred with many of the people of bidah, such as the Jahmiyyah, the Qadariyyah, the Khawaarij, the Rawaafid and their ilk- among those who initiated a Bidah, called to it and excommunicated those who opposed it.

The people are four categories in this subject matter (i.e. their knowledge of the path of the believers):

The first group is those who know the path of the believers and that of the criminals in detail – in both knowledge and action. They are the most knowledgeable of the creation.

The second group is those who are blind to both paths- those resembling animals. The path of the criminals is presented to them and they follow it.

The third group is those who concern themselves with (seeking) knowledge of the path of the believers and not its opposite- only knows (the path of the criminals) by way of its opposition to the (path of the believers) and in a general way, and that all that is in opposition to the path of the believers is falsehood, even though that is not illustrated to him in detail; rather, turns away when he hears some of that which contradicts the path of the believers and does not preoccupy himself in understanding and knowing its falsity (i.e. by way of learning from the upright people of knowledge). This person is in a state (similar) to one who is safeguarded from following desires- whose heart is neither put at risk nor is he called to (such desires)- as opposed to those who are aware of (such desires) and their souls are inclined towards them, but they strive against it for the Sake of Allah. A letter was written to Umar Ibnul Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] and he was asked about this affair, as to which of the two men is the better- a man who is not put at risk by way of desires and does not go through its difficulties, or a man who is urged towards it but abandons it for the Sake of Allah? Umar wrote back saying, “The one who is desirous of sin but abandons it for the Sake of Allah is from ‘those whose hearts Allaah has tested for piety. For them, there is forgiveness and a great reward’”. [Al-Hujuraat. 3]

The fourth group knows the path of evil, Bidah, and kufr in detail and the path of the believers in general. This is the situation of many of those who concern themselves with the beliefs of the previous nations and that of the people of Bidah (proponents of religious innovation). They are acquainted with (these affairs) in detail, but not with what the Messenger came with; rather they are acquainted with it in general even though they may know some of its affairs in detail. Whoever examines their books will see that. Likewise, those who know the paths of evil, oppression, and corruption in detail and are followers of it, if they repent, abandon these (affairs) and return to the path of the pious believers, then their knowledge of it will only be general. They will not be acquainted with it in that detailed manner known to those who spend their lives (studying) its regulations and ways.

The Objective: Indeed, Allah [Glorified be He] loves that one should know the path of His enemies to avoid and hate it, just as the path of His Awliyaa (close friends, allies) should be known and followed. [3]

You Lack The Fortitude and Integrity Essential to Uphold The Sound Creed and Methodology And Counter Deviation

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allaah have mercy upon him,  said: “Know that leaving the correct path occurs in two ways. Firstly, a man strays from the correct path intending nothing but good, so his error is not to be followed since it leads to destruction. Secondly, a man who deliberately opposes the truth and acts contrary to the Pious ones who came before him, he is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil within the Ummah. It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed”.

Al-Allamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan, may Allah preserve him,  commented on the above statement of Imam Barbahaaree [may Allah have mercy upon him] saying: The first man is one who leaves the (correct path) without the intention (to do so), rather he intended good but followed other than the path of good. Striving [alone] is not sufficient, and even if the person has a righteous intention and a good aim, then that must be upon the correct path. Therefore, this (person) is considered mistaken and whoever agrees with him and follows his error will be destroyed because this is a path of destruction even though the (person) did not intend to leave (the correct path); rather his quest was (to reach something) good. This is the state of many of those who initiate newly invented matters in the knowledge of Aqeedah (Creed). This affair is not permissible, and they should not adhere to it. The person is not upon correctness. Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] said: [ وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ – And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path]. [Surah Al-An’aam. Ayah 153]

Therefore, we reject any path that exits us from the Straight Path even if the one who (calls) to it aims for good and has a good intention. We do not follow him in that while he continues upon his error, eventually leading to destruction because whoever abandons the correct path in his journey and takes a path of ruin will be destroyed.

As for the second person, it is the one who intends to leave (the correct path). He knows the truth and that what he embarks upon is falsehood, but he intends to leave the truth with the intention of misguiding the people. So, the intention of the first (person) is to bring about benefit for the people, but he did not follow the correct path. The second (person) intended to misguide the people and turn them away from the correct path. Therefore, this one is a devil because the devils take the people away from the Straight Path. (Allah informs us that) Iblees said: [لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ -Surely, I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path]. [7:16] So he intends to turn them away from it [i.e. the straight path] and [direct them] towards the deviated paths. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] gave us an example when he drew a straight line and drew other lines on its sides, he then said about the straight line, “This is the path of Allah” and he said about the other lines, “These are the other paths, and on each path is a devil calling to it”. This is a clear example that agrees with that which the Shaikh (i.e. Imaam Barbahaaree) has stated here. So, the one who takes the people away from the Straight Path (and directs them) to the innovated paths of the innovators (in religious matters) is not one who intends good for them; rather he intends destruction for them. He is a devil, be it that he is a devil from amongst the Jinn or the people. It is obligated to us to be more careful of this (second person) than the first one because this one (i.e. the second) intends to misguide the people.

And regarding the statement of Imaam Barbahaaree: “He is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil”, Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan stated: He is misguided and misguiding others- a rebellious devil, a rebel intending to turn the people from the Straight Path.

And regarding the statement of Imaam Barbahaaree, “It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed”, Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan commented on the above statement, saying: It is not permissible to keep quiet about this one who leaves the truth intentionally; rather it is obligatory to unveil his affair and uncover his vileness until the people are warned about him. And it is not to be said that the people are free to hold views, freedom of speech and respecting the views of others, as say present with regards to [having] respect for the views of others. The affair is not about views; [rather] the affair is about Ittibaa [i.e. following the authentic proofs narrated from the Messenger accompanied with the understanding of the pious predecessors]. Allah has outlined a clear path for us, and He told us to adhere to it, when He [Glorified be He] stated: [وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ] ‘And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it’ [6:153]

If any person comes to us and wants us to leave this straight path, firstly we reject his statement. Secondly, we clarify and warn the people against him and we do not keep quiet about him; because if we keep quiet about him, the people will be deceived by him, especially if he is an eloquent person with (skillful) writing and education because the people will be deceived by him and will say, “This one is competent, this one is from the thinkers” as is taking place today. Therefore, the affair is very dangerous, and regarding this is a reason to refute the one in opposition, as opposed to what those who say, “Abandon the refutations, leave the people, everyone has his views and have respect for him”. By way of this (so-called) respect for the views and freedom of speech, the Ummah will be destroyed. The Salaf (pious predecessors) did not keep quiet about the likes of these people; rather they exposed and refuted them due to their knowledge of the danger upon Ummah. We do not keep quiet about their evil; rather that which Allah has revealed must be clarified, otherwise, we will be from those who conceal the truth-those whom Allah spoke of (saying): [إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ – Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allaah and cursed by the cursers].'[2:159]

The affair is not limited to the innovator, rather it is extended to the one who keeps quiet about him (i.e. the one who deliberately keeps quiet whilst being aware about him). Rebuke and punishment (i.e. warning) are extended to him because it is obligatory to clarify. [4]

Your Love and Hate Towards Engaging With Ahlul Bidah Are Weak, Unstable, or Corrupt

Imam As-Saaboonee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

They (Ahlul Hadith) hate Ahlul Bid’ah – those who initiate into the religion what is not from it. They neither love them nor keep company with them. They neither listen to their speech nor sit with them. They neither argue with them about the religion nor debate with them”.

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Is this from themselves (their understanding), or is it guidance from Allah and His Messenger, as well as the practices of the righteous predecessors? Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, has cautioned us against Ahlul Bidah, making it clear that they are people driven by their desires and that they follow the Mutashaabihaat while neglecting the Muhkamaat. Aa’isha, may Allah be pleased with her, reported that the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recited this verse:

It is He Who has sent down to you [Muhammad] the Book [this Qur’an]. In it are Verses that are (entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book [and those are the Verses of Al-Ahkaam (commandments, etc.), Al-Faraa’id (obligatory duties), and Al-Hudood (legal laws for the punishment of thieves, adulterers, etc.)]; and others are Mutashaabihaat (i.e. not entirely clear in what they indicate, so they are to be referred back to the Muhkamaat to be explained]. So, as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials, etc.), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings except Allaah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: ‘’We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord.” And none receive admonition except men of understanding.’’ [Aal Imraan. 7]

She said: The Messenger said, “If you see those who follow thereof that is not entirely clear, then they are those whom Allah has named [as having deviation (from the truth)] so beware of them”. [Al-Bukhaari 4547]

Allah has made it clear that they harbour (misguided, vain) desires and deviations, and that they intend to mislead both themselves and others. They seek trials and aim to misguide the people, which is why the Messenger has addressed them and elucidated their state. He stated, “Indeed, there will emerge a group from my Ummah in whom desires will flow as rabies flows in a dog.” Ahlul Sunnah undoubtedly detests Ahlul Bidah, and Imam As-Saaboonee has noted that senior scholars of Ahlul Hadith unanimously share this sentiment. However, among Ahlul Bidah, there exist Du’aat (callers to their innovations) who should neither be engaged in conversation nor debated with, except in cases of necessity and for a Maslahah (a carefully considered benefit recognized by rightly guided scholars). (In other circumstances), it is impermissible to engage in debate with them.

It is impermissible to debate with the Rawaafid if you are weak (in knowledge and character); except for a man who is firmly grounded in knowledge and religion, (well-versed) in citing proofs, smart, and possesses (force and strength to effectively engage in debate using clear proofs without being swayed by doubts). Therefore, if he perceives a benefit in debating them, he may proceed to do so. [وَجَادِلْهُم بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ – and argue with them in a way that is better].

This is the legislated debate. Allah did not close the door of debate completely, thus if we have a way of establishing the proof and guiding the people to good, we follow it. The one who is debated with may not benefit but others may benefit. Regarding the weak individual, the answer is no. Even among scholars, there exists one who may be considered weak and another who is misled by Shub’hah (a matter that superficially resembles the truth but is, in fact, false). He may be a scholar, but weak in his character, thus rendering him vulnerable in the presence of Ahlul Bidah, even if they are younger or possess less knowledge than he does. This has occurred to many who ascribe to the Sunnah and Hadith due to their weakness and opposition to the methodology of the pious predecessors. For example is Al Bayhaqqi, who was from the seniors of Ahlul Hadith and their scholars, yet he was misled by certain Ashaa’irah, such as Ibn Fawrak and his associates, ultimately led him into Ash’ariyyah. How many young individuals in this current era have faced ruin at the hands of Ahlul Bidah!

How many youths, middle-aged men and university graduates have fallen victim to the deceptions of Ahlul Bidah, thereby becoming ensnared in their influence?! They are deceived by the groups (i.e. deviated groups), thus leading them to succumb (to these falsehoods). This is because they did not act upon the Messenger’s statement: “If you see those who follow thereof that is not entirely clear, then they are those whom Allah has named (as having deviation), so beware of them”.  The resolute individual calls Ahlul Bidah, the Christians. There has to be Dawah in the path of Allah and strong scholars who can convey the religion ordained by Allah. When necessary, they debate so that the proofs are established and benefit one who is to benefit. [5]

You Lack The Sound Foundational Principles Necessary For Accurately Evaluating, Recognising, and Classifying Errors, While Also Being Perplexed About The Clear and Detailed distinction Between The Path of Ahlus Sunnah and that of Ahlul Bidah

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhali [may Allah preserve him] said:

After speaking about those who make Takfir based on falsehood (a) amongst the different factions of the Jahmiyah (b), the Khawaarij (c), the Rawaafid and the Qadariyyah (d), and the reason behind such Takfir, Shaikh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “On the opposite side of these people who make Takfir based on falsehood, there are people who do not know the creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah as it should be, or they know some and are ignorant of some. Perhaps what they know of it, they do not clarify for the people, rather they conceal it. Neither do they forbid Bidah nor censure Ahlul Bidah and punish them; rather, they may censure speech related to the Sunnah and the fundamental principles of the religion – completely – and would not differentiate between what Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah say and what Ahlul Bidah Wal-Furqah say, or they would affirm all their differing Madhabs (creeds, paths) like how the scholars would affirm the different opinions related to affairs of Ijtihaad regarding which difference of opinion is justified. (e) This path has overwhelmed many of the Murji’ah, some of the jurists, those pursuing the path of asceticism, and the philosophers, just as it has overwhelmed – first and foremost – many of the people of desires and rhetoric. Both these paths are perverted, outside the Book [i.e. The Qur’an] and the Sunnah”.

After quoting the above statement from Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali said, “I say, may Allah have mercy on Ibn Tamiyyah. Indeed, he clarified the situation of the people of his era and those before them, then what if he saw the situation of many amongst the Al-Jamaa’aat Al-Hizbiyyah Wal-Bid’iyyah (The Groups of Illegal Partisanship and Bidah (f) who ascribe themselves to Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah and take cover behind them – in particular – to promote their falsehoods?! What if he saw them whilst they have gathered between the Madhabs (creeds paths) of the two groups- the khawaarij and those who follow their way in pronouncing Takfir in the subject matter of Al-Haakimiyyah (g) and the way of the Mur’ji’ah (h) in the manner they approach the affair of people who are upon the big and numerous innovations in religious affairs, and equating innovation in religion to those affairs of the religion in which Ijtihaad is justified, whose people are rewarded alongside a refutation against their mistakes! In the view of these people, the leaders of Misguidance and Bidah are like the Imams of Guidance and Sunnah”. (i) [6]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah continued: “Rather what is obligatory is to clarify that which Allah sent His Messengers with and (revealed) in His Books- propagate that which the Messengers brought from Allah and fulfill the covenant which Allah took from the scholars. Therefore, it is obligatory to know that which the Messengers brought, believe in it, propagate it, call to it, strive with it, weigh up all that which the people embark upon – [statements, actions, religious fundamentals and subsidiary issues pertaining to the apparent actions of the Limbs and affairs related to actions of the heart]- under the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, neither following desires [through] customs, a school of law, a religious order, a leader or a predecessor, nor following conjecture through a weak hadeeth or corrupt analogy, regardless whether it is an analogy that offers some degree of certainty or not, or blindly following someone who it is not obligated to follow his statement and action because Allah -in His Book – has censured those who follow conjecture and that which their souls desire, whilst they abandon following that which came to them from their Lord of Guidance”. [7]

You Are Filled With Fear of Returning to The Noble Path of Pious Predecessors to Adjudicate All affairs.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee, may Allaah preserve him, stated:

All of you hold onto the Rope of Allaah [i.e. The Qur’an and authentic Sunnah]- Allaah will aid you in this and make you like the sun; return to the understanding of the righteous predecessors, and it is, as I said to you, transmitted (and established) in your presence. This is a challenge to those who oppose this. We are challenging Ahlul Bidah Wal Ahwaa (the proponents of innovation in religious matters and followers of vain desires) in their creed and politics. We say, between us and you is the (path, understanding of the) pious predecessors and books (of the pious predecessors). Ahmad [i.e. Imaam Ahmad] used to say to the proponents of innovation in religious affairs, “Between us and you are the funerals (i.e. whose funeral will be attended by Ahlus Sunnah in great numbers)”. We say (i.e. at present), “Between us and you are the books (of the pious predecessors)- the books are present! Allah said to His Messenger: [قل فَأْتُوا بِالتَّوْرَاةِ فَاتْلُوهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ – All food was lawful to the Children of Israel, except what Israel made unlawful for himself before the Taurat (Torah) was revealed. Say (O Muhammad ): “Bring here the Taurat (Torah) and recite it, if you are truthful]. So they present the Torah and you prove them to be upon falsehood.

We bring the books of the pious predecessors – the Qur’an, the Sunnah, the books of Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasaa’ee, and what was authored by Ahmad and others; we bring them (to prove) those who are on the path of these (pious predecessors) and those who turn away and oppose them. Just as Allah challenged the Jews to bring the Torah, so the Torah was brought and they were exposed them; (likewise), we challenge these people to bring the books of the pious predecessors, so that the innovator in religious affairs is exposed, and to clarify who the deviants are- whether us or them? Are they able to challenge? Can they open their mouths like this? We fill our mouths with courage – challenge everyone who says that we are upon other than the methodology of the pious predecessors. We, by Allaah, call to the methodology of the pious predecessors- to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. We use the book of Allaah and the Sunnah as proof for our beliefs, our acts of worship, our dealings with rulers and their subjects, in dealing with the groups and sects. As for the others, they are upon tricks, deception, etc By Allah, you will not find with them anything but tricks and manipulating the emotions of youth. [8]

Ibn Aqeel, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: If the truthful ones were to keep silent and the falsifiers speak, then the creation would have relinquished what they have witnessed (of truth) and rejected what they have not witnessed. So when the devout one desires to revive the Prophetic path, the people would reject it and think that it innovation in religion. [9]

You Are Filled With Fear and Unease at The Prospect of Being Isolated and Attacked When They Hold Onto Clarity Regardless of The Large Numbers of People In Opposition

Imaam Abu Shaamah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “When the command to adhere to the Jamaa’ah (the main body) is (mentioned), then the intent behind it is to adhere to the truth, even if those who follow it are few and those who oppose it are numerous. That is because the truth is that which the first Jamaa’ah was upon- the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and his companions [may Allah be pleased with them]- and one does not give consideration to the numerous people of falsehood”. [10]

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him,  said:

Let every Muslim be careful of being deceived by the great numbers [of people upon such and such idea, view, belief, way of life, etc], whilst saying, “Indeed, the people have become such and such, and have become accustomed to such and such, so I am with them”. This is a great calamity, for indeed many people of the past were destroyed due to this [i.e. blindly following the majority]. Therefore, O sensible one! It is obligated on you to examine yourself; take account of yourself and adhere to the truth, even if the people abandon it. Beware of what Allaah has forbidden, even if the people do it, for indeed the truth is more worthy of being followed, just as Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَإِنْ تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّه ِ -And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s Path. [Surah Al An-aam Ayah 116]

And Allah [The Most High] said: [ وَمَآ أَڪۡثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَوۡ حَرَصۡتَ بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ-And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly]. [Surah Yusuf Ayah 103] [11]

Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadi’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If numbers are the scale by way of which you judge, then the majority are mostly blameworthy; and if persuasive speech and eloquence is the scale by way of which you judge, then indeed Allah described the Munaafiqoon that they have tongues that utter beautiful speech. Allah said: [وَإِن يَقُولُواْ تَسۡمَعۡ لِقَوۡلِهِمۡ – And when they speak, you listen to their words]. [Al-Munaafiqoon. 4]

Therefore, what is given consideration is that one knows the people of truth by their characteristics – that they call to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, and companions], and they neither desire reward from the people nor seeking to be thanked. [12]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

A large number of people around a person is not proof that such a person is virtuous because some of the Prophets were only followed by a few people. “A Prophet will come on the day of judgment with a few followers and a Prophet will come with no followers”. [Bukhaari 5705]. Therefore, does this mean that such a Prophet is not virtuous? Absolutely not! A person does not look at the large number of people who are present because the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said to Ali, “If Allah gives guidance to a single man through you, it is better for you than possessing red camels”. [Bukhaari 3009]

The Shaikh, may Allah preserve him, also stated, “Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah is not harmed by those who oppose them. If you are with them- all praise is due to Allah, they are pleased with this because indeed they want good for the people. If you oppose them, you cannot harm them and due to this the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “There will not cease to be a group of my Ummah who will be manifest upon the truth- not harmed by those who forsake them until the command of Allaah comes to pass (i.e. the day of judgment) whilst they are (still) upon that (truth)”. The one in opposition does not harm except himself. What is given consideration is not the great numbers; rather what is given consideration is to agree with the truth, even if a small number of people were upon it. And even if in some eras there is only one person (upon truth), then he is the one upon truth and he is the Jamaa’ah. The Jamaa’ah does not necessitate great numbers; rather the Jamaa’ah is what is in agreement with the truth – in agreement with the Book and the Sunnah, even if those upon it are few. However, if many come together and (upon) truth, then – all praise is due to Allah- this is strength. But if the majority oppose it (i.e. the truth), then we side with the truth even if only a few are upon it”. [13]

We ask Allah:

O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for steadfastness in this affair (regarding sound adherence to the religion) and firm resolve to adhere to the path of guidance. [14]

O Allah! Lord of Jibraa’eel, Meekaa’eel, and Israafeel, Creator of the heavens and the Earth, The Knower of the seen and the unseen. You judge between Your slaves regarding in that which they differ. Guide me to the truth regarding that in which there is differing, by Your Will. Verily, You guide whomever you will to the straight path. [15]

O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity, etc) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of Iman, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others). [16]

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [17]

[1] Figureheads and Groups of Misguidance, Imposters and Deceivers

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

He is known as Al-Husayn Ibn Mansoor Al-Hallaaj, also referred to as Abu Mughith or Abu Abdillah. His ancestry traces back to a fire worshipper from Persia. He was raised in Waasit, although some accounts suggest he spent his formative years in Tastar. His journey led him to Baghdad and subsequently to Makkah, where he resided in the vicinity of Masjid Al-Haraam, enduring both extreme heat and cold. For many years, he lived without shelter, subsisting on minimal food and water during breakfast for an entire year, driven by a commitment to self-discipline and devotion to worship. He often positioned himself on a rock under the intense sun at the mountain of Abu Qubays.

He accompanied several Sufi figureheads, including Junaid Bin Muhammad, Amr Bin Uthmaan Al-Makkee, and Abul Husayn An-Nooree. Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee said: “The Sufis hold differing opinions regarding Al-Hallaaj; many assert that he does not belong to their ranks and should not be associated with their tradition. This (differing) extends to earlier figures such as Abul Abbas Bin Ataa Al-Baghdaadee, Muhammad Bin Khafeef Az-Sheeraazee, and Ibrahim Bin Muhammad An-Nasraabaadhee An-Naysaabooree, who recognised Al-Hallaaj as being on the right path and documented his teachings. Ibn Khafeef even stated, ‘Al-Husayn Bin Mansoor is a learned scholar.’ Abu Abdir Rahman As-Sulamee, whose full name was Muhammad Ibnul Husayn, recounted hearing Ibrahim Ibn Muhammad An-Nasraabaadhee share insights from Al-Hallaaj regarding the soul, subsequently addressing a critic by saying, ‘If there is anyone, after the Prophets and the truthful, who embodies monotheism, it is Al-Hallaaj.’ Furthermore, Abu Abdir Rahmaan noted that he heard Mansoor Bin Abdillah recount Shiblee’s words: ‘Al-Husayn Bin Mansoor and I are essentially the same, except that he manifested himself while I chose to remain concealed.’ Those who denied Al-Hallaaj’s association with the Sufis attributed his actions to sorcery, asserting that his beliefs align with those of heretics”.

Al-Hallaaj’s pronouncements reflected the concept of Hulool, [a] and he composed poetry associated with Sufiyyah. Since his execution, there has been ongoing debate among the people concerning his legacy. However, the rightly guided jurists, Imams, and scholars reached a consensus that he warranted execution by the authorities, deeming him a foolish and concealed disbeliever, as well as a sorcerer. This perspective was similarly held by the majority of early Sufis. Nevertheless, within the Sufi community, there exists a faction—previously mentioned—that idealises his situation, misled by his external demeanour and unable to comprehend the reality of his speech. Initially, he dedicated himself to worship; however, he lacked knowledge, and his practices were not grounded in the authentic divine path that leads to the pleasure and reverence of Allah. Consequently, Al-Hallaaj contributed more to corruption than to reform. Imam Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “Those among our scholars who fall into corruption bear a resemblance to the Jews, while those among the worshippers who become corrupt resemble the Christians.” This is the reason Al-Hallaaj engaged in the concepts of Hulool and Ittihaad, ultimately aligning himself with the ranks of corruption and deviation. His situation changed, and he traveled to various places, showing people that he was a guide to the way of Allah. It is well-known that he went to India, learned magic, and claimed, “I use it to call people to the way of Allah.” In India, people spoke of him as someone who helps others in tough times. In Khurasan, they called him the special one, while in Persia, he was known as Abu Abdillah, a man who avoided worldly pleasures. In Khuzestan, he was also called Abu Abdillah, the mysterious one who chose to stay away from worldly pleasures.

Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee conveyed through his chain of narration that Al-Hallaaj stated, “The wisdom of both the early and later generations can be distilled into four statements: loving what is exalted, detesting the despicable, adhering to divine revelation, and maintaining a fear of straying.” It is evident that Al-Hallaaj faltered in the latter two aspects, as he neither adhered to the revelation nor maintained steadfastness; instead, he strayed from these principles and ultimately fell into Bidah and misguidance. Abdur Rahmaan As-Sulamee narrated from Amr Bin Uthmaan Al-Makkee, who stated: “While I was strolling through one of the narrow streets of Makkah, reciting the Qur’an alongside Al-Hallaaj, he listened to my recitation and remarked, ‘I can express something akin to this.’ Thus, I chose to distance myself from him.”

Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee reported, “Mas’ud Bin Nasir conveyed to me that Ibn Bakur Az-Sheeraazee mentioned he heard Abu Zur’ah At-Tabaree state, ‘The situation regarding Husayn Bin Mansoor Al-Hallaaj among the populace is one of differing; some have embraced him while others have dismissed him. However, I recall Muhammad Bin Yahyah Ar-Raazee asserting, ‘I heard Amr Bin Uthmaan denouncing Hallaaj, expressing, ‘Had I the means, I would have slain him myself.’ I inquired, ‘What did you discover with the Shaikh?’ He replied, ‘I recited a verse from the Book of Allah, to which Al-Hallaaj responded, ‘I might be able to produce a statement similar to this.'”

Abu Zur’ah At-Tabaree reported, “I heard Abu Yaqub Al-Aqta state, ‘I arranged the marriage of my daughter to Al-Husayn Al-Hallaaj because I observed that he was adhering to the right path and was diligent in his worship. However, it soon became evident to me that he was a magician, a deceiver, and a malevolent disbeliever.'” This union occurred in Makkah, and the wife was Umm Husayn, the daughter of Abee Yaqub Al-Aqta. She gave birth to a son named Ahmad Ibn Al-Husayn Bin Mansur. In his treatise, Abul Qasim Al-Qushayree discusses the topic of “Safeguarding the hearts of the Mashaayikh.” He recounts an incident in which Amr and Ibn Uthmaan visited Al-Hallaaj in Makkah, where they discovered him engaged in writing on sheets of paper. Amr inquired about his activity, to which Al-Hallaaj responded that he was engaged in a contest with the Qur’an. Following this encounter, Amr stated that he supplicated against Al-Hallaaj, resulting in the latter’s subsequent lack of success. Additionally, Amr expressed his disapproval of Abu Yaqub Al-Aqta for marrying his daughter to Al-Hallaaj.

Amr Bin Uthmaan authored numerous treatises in which he denounced Al-Hallaaj and cautioned the populace against him, disseminating these writings to various regions. Meanwhile, Al-Hallaaj roamed the lands, moving in all directions, and began to present himself as a proponent of the path of Allah, employing a variety of deceptive tactics. He persisted in this behaviour until divine retribution was brought upon him—a punishment that is inescapable for those who commit transgressions. Consequently, he was executed in accordance with Islamic law, which is applied solely to those deemed heretical. He intended to challenge the Qur’an in the sacred vicinity of the Ka’bah, the very place where Jibreel delivered the Qur’an, and indeed, Allah says:

وَمَن يُرِدۡ فِيهِ بِإِلۡحَادِۭ بِظُلۡمٍ۬ نُّذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ۬

And whoever inclines to evil actions therein or to do wrong (i.e. practice polytheism and leave Islamic Monotheism), him We shall cause to taste a painful torment]. [Al-Hajj. 25]

Trickery: Al-Khateeb Al-Bagdaadee narrated that Al-Hallaaj instructed one of his trusted associates to journey to a mountainous region, providing the following guidance: “Demonstrate your commitment to worship, virtue, and self-restraint to the people. Once they are drawn to you, develop their affection and trust, then reveal to them that you have been stricken with blindness. After a period, disclose that you are also crippled. If they rush to offer you assistance, respond by saying, ‘O benevolent individuals! Your efforts will not benefit me.’ Subsequently, inform them that you have had a dream in which you encountered Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, who conveyed to you, ‘You will only find healing through a Qutb [b], who will arrive on a specific day and month, and his characteristics are as follows.’ At that designated time, I [Al-Hallaaj] will present myself to you.”

The individual, who was an associate of Al-Hallaaj, traveled to that region and took up residence there. He dedicated himself to acts of worship, demonstrated piety, and engaged in the recitation of the Qur’an. Over time, the local populace came to trust and admire him. He then revealed to them that he was afflicted with blindness. Subsequently, he disclosed that he had been enduring a chronic illness, prompting the community to earnestly seek a remedy for his condition, though their efforts proved fruitless. He addressed them, saying, “O benevolent people! Your endeavours have yielded no results, and I have seen the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a dream. He informed me that my healing lies solely in the hands of a Qutb, who will arrive on a specific day and month.” Consequently, the people began to escort him to the Masjid, honouring him in anticipation of the Qutb’s arrival as he had foretold. After a period, Al-Hallaaj entered the region quietly, clad in a white woolen garment. He proceeded to the Masjid, occupying a designated spot where he engaged in worship, remaining indifferent to those around him. The people recognised him from the description provided by the individual feigning illness, and they approached him, offering greetings and gently touching him (i.e. as a gesture of admiration and respect).

When the designated time arrived, the people informed the one who was feigning illness about the man in the Masjid. He then asked them to describe the individual. After they provided the description, he remarked, “That is the person of whom I was informed in a dream, that my healing lies in his hands. Please take me to him.” They assisted him and positioned him before Al-Hallaaj. He addressed Al-Hallaaj, saying, “O Abu Abdillah! I had a dream in which I saw Allah’s Messenger,” and proceeded to recount his dream. Al-Hallaaj raised his hands in supplication, then spat into his palms and applied the spittle to the man’s face, resulting in the restoration of his sight as if he had never been blind. He then took some of the spittle and applied it to the man’s legs, enabling him to stand and walk before the gathered crowd, including the leaders and dignitaries of the land, as if he had never suffered from any ailment. The onlookers exclaimed, “Allah is the Greatest! Glorified be Allah!” They praised Al-Hallaaj with an adoration that only amplified the falsehood he had presented to them.

Al-Hallaaj remained with them for a period during which they honoured and revered him. As he prepared to leave, he expressed a desire for them to collect substantial wealth on his behalf. He stated, “I do not need worldly possessions; we have attained this level of piety by renouncing such things. However, it is possible that this companion of mine has brothers and friends among the Abdaal [c], who are diligently striving in the path of Allah at Tartus, engaging in pilgrimage and charitable acts, and they require assistance to continue on this journey.” Subsequently, the man who had been suffering from a chronic illness but was now healed, affirmed, “The Shaikh speaks the truth. Allah has restored my sight and granted me health so that I may dedicate my life to serving Allah and performing hajj alongside our virtuous Abdaal brothers.” He then encouraged the people to contribute wealth. Al-Hallaaj departed, while the man remained with the community until they amassed a considerable amount of wealth, including gold and silver. Once the wealth was collected, he delivered a farewell address and left, subsequently reuniting with Al-Hallaaj to share the gathered riches.

An Incident Regarding a Man Who Witnessed Al-Hallaaj’s Tricks

The witness recounted, “I had often heard tales of Al-Hallaaj’s miracles and longed to witness one for myself. Therefore, I approached him and offered my greetings. He inquired, ‘Do you seek something at this moment?’ I replied, ‘I wish for fresh fish.’ He then entered his home and was absent for an hour. Upon his return, he presented me with a fish that was gasping for air, and his two feet covered in mud. He explained, ‘I prayed to Allah, and He instructed me to go to the riverbed to fetch this fish for you. The mud on my feet is from that area.’ I suggested, ‘If you are willing, you may take me to your home so that I can observe and bolster my faith. I will believe in you unless something contrary is revealed to me.’ He responded, ‘Come in.’ Once inside, he locked the door, sat down, and put on an act. I explored the house but found no other access or information, leaving me bewildered by his situation.”

I observed a barrier in my path, which I shook, causing it to yield. Behind it, I discovered a door that provided access. Upon entering, I found myself in a vast orchard filled with a variety of fresh fruits and an abundance of food. There was a large pond teeming with fish of various sizes. I waded into the water and caught one fish, resulting in my feet becoming muddy, similar to the state of his feet. I then approached the door and called out, “Open the door; I trust you.” However, upon noticing my muddy condition, he became alarmed and attempted to attack me. In self-defense, I struck him in the face with the fish and exclaimed, “O enemy of Allah! You have wearied me today.” After managing to escape, I encountered him again a few days later. He greeted me with a smile and warned, “Do not disclose this. I have not seen anyone; otherwise, I would have sent someone to kill you in your sleep.” It became clear to me that he intended to eliminate me if I revealed what I knew, and I chose to remain silent until he was ultimately crucified. [An Excerpt from Al-Bidaayah Wan-Nihaayah. 11/132-137]

An Explanation Concerning The Khawaariq [Phenomena ascribed to occurrences that transcend the ordinary or typical] and The Deceivers – By Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah

The Khawaariq, through which the devils lead astray the children of Adam, manifest in various forms, such as when devils assume the likeness of an individual who is either absent or deceased, among other similar instances. This phenomenon has misled numerous individuals who identify as Muslims or as adherents of the Scriptures. Their beliefs are founded on two main points: Firstly, they assert that anyone from whom these khawaariq arise is a Wali, and in Christian terminology, is regarded as a Qadees A’dheem, or a great saint. Secondly, they claim that such individuals are infallible, meaning that all they convey is the truth and all their directives are just. It is entirely possible that an individual did not exhibit any phenomena that deviate from the norm—whether or not it is connected to sound knowledge and piety—or any extraordinary occurrences associated with malevolent deeds. Instead, the individual may have simply engaged in the deceptions characteristic of liars and wicked sinners. The deceptions employed by such individuals are indeed numerous, leading observers to mistakenly perceive them as remarkable events that defy the ordinary. However, this is not the case, nor do these deceptions resemble those attributed to monks. Several authors have documented the tricks of monks, including an account of one who purportedly transformed water into oil. In this instance, as the oil accumulates within the lighthouse, the water level diminishes, causing the oil to rise, thereby misleading onlookers into believing that the water has been converted into oil. Numerous similar instances exist among the deceptions of certain Christians, as all that these individuals—who have distorted the teachings of the Messiah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)—claim to be extraordinary are either the work of devils or mere tricks, devoid of any connection to the miracles performed by the righteous.

Similarly, the deviated people – those who seek to change the teachings of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, engage in practices that are not sanctioned by Allah and His Messenger. They establish these practices as a form of worship, prioritising them over the divinely ordained path. For instance, they may choose to prioritise the sounds of tambourines and high-pitched flutes over the recitation of Allah’s Book. This leads individuals into a state of ecstasy and a trance influenced by Shaytaan, resulting in them speaking in an unfamiliar language. Upon regaining their composure—much like a possessed individual who, under the influence of a jinn, reveals the thoughts and feelings instilled by shaytaan—they find themselves unable to recall their initial utterances. The heretics seek to substitute the teachings of the Messengers, whether they pertain to the religion of the Messiah or that of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon them. Among these individuals are those who advocate for heretical beliefs, lead others astray, and include disbelievers, polytheists, apostates, and others. Notable figures among them are Musaylimah the liar, Al-Aswad Al-Unzee, Al-Haarith Ad-Dimashqee, Baba Rumi, and others who have engaged in actions deemed to be from the Khawaariq, often misrepresented as miracles, but which are, in truth, associated with the works of devils.

The tricksters are abundant and do not possess the status of Awliyaa of Allah. Their purported extraordinary actions, which deviate from the norm, are often linked to the malevolent practices of soothsayers and magicians, or they are simply deceptive tricks. Unlike those who are aligned with demonic forces, these individuals intentionally fabricate lies and engage in deceit. Among them are those who mislead others into believing that their actions are miraculous, akin to those of the righteous, while some are fully aware that their deeds stem from diabolical influences, yet they persist in these actions to fulfill their own objectives.

The purpose of this discourse is to highlight that numerous activities deemed unconventional, often referred to as miracles, may actually stem from satanic influences or deceptive practices. This leads individuals to mistakenly believe they are witnessing genuine miracles performed by virtuous individuals. In truth, actions rooted in Shirk and malevolent behavior can only originate from demonic forces. This includes instances where individuals invoke celestial bodies, call upon deceased or absent persons, make oaths using obscure phrases with unknown meanings, or utilise names associated with devils. Additionally, seeking assistance through immoral actions and oppression results in deeds that, while appearing extraordinary, are ultimately from the devils.

The righteous have miracles similar to those of the pious individuals within this Ummah, the disciples of the Messiah, and others who follow the authentic and unaltered faith of the Messiah. However, the presence of miracles in the lives of these righteous individuals does not imply that they are infallible like the Prophets, peace and blessings of Allah be upon them. A righteous person, referred to as a Wali, may indeed exhibit miraculous abilities, yet they can still err in their thoughts, perceptions, or interpretations of what they hear, see, or understand from the revealed Scripture.

Consequently, the assertions made by individuals other than the Prophets may be accepted or dismissed (based on the available evidence). In contrast, it is incumbent upon individuals to sincerely affirm all that the Prophets have communicated concerning matters of the unseen and to comply with their commands. Therefore, Allah has obligated that a person must believe in all that the Prophets have conveyed, while there is no obligation to accept the statements of others. Allah states:

Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob), and to Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Musa (Moses) and ‘Iesa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam).” [Al-Baqarah. 136]

Allah, The Exalted, says:

It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, and each and every act of obedience to Allah, etc.) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers); but Al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets. [Al-Baqarah 177]

The Muslims unanimously agree that anyone who denies the Prophethood of even a single Prophet, whose Prophethood is well-known, is considered a disbeliever or an apostate. There is no differentiation among the Prophets; one cannot accept some while rejecting others. Allah says:

Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allah and His Messengers (by believing in Allah and disbelieving in His Messengers) saying, “We believe in some but reject others,” and wish to adopt a way in between. They are in truth disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating torment. [An-Nisaa. 150-151] [An Excerpt from “Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deen Al-Maseeh”. Vol 1. 284-287]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Among the Dajjaals – liars – whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cautioned against were Musaylimah the Liar from Yamaamah and Al-Aswad Al-Unzi, both of whom falsely claimed prophethood. Consequently, a significant number of Arabs turned away from Islam; thus, Allah brought about their destruction, along with others, and their trial concluded through the swords wielded by the companions of the Messenger of Allah. Among the liars who claimed prophethood was Mukhtar Bin Abee Ubayd Ath-Thaqafee, the liar regarding whom the Messenger remarked, “A liar will emerge from Thaqeef and bloodshedder”. [d] The liar referred to was Al-Mukhtaar, while the bloodshedder was al-Hajjaaj. Among those who asserted prophethood were Al-Harith, known as the liar, and Ghulaam Ahmad Al-Qadiyaanee Al-Hindee, who garnered a following spread across the globe, claiming that prophethood continues to this day. Each lair is accompanied by other malevolent liars, akin to their leader.

Among the liars was the Jew, the wicked Abdullah Ibn Saba, who falsely professed to be a Muslim and incited numerous individuals against the Rightly Guided Caliph Uthmaan Bin Affaan, may Allah be pleased with him, ultimately leading to his martyrdom during that trial. He is recognised as the originator of the Raafidha Shiite doctrine and its abhorrent principles, which include an exaggerated reverence for the family of the Prophet, to the extent of deifying them. Many adherents regard Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, as an object of worship, asserting that he was designated by the Prophet as his successor in leadership. Such claims are fabrications; they also assert that Ali will return to enact vengeance upon Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, as well as five hundred Caliphs from the Banee Umayyah and Banee Abbas. This nefarious individual, Ibn Saba, instigated the disparagement of the Prophet’s companions and other matters related to the trial he initiated, which heretics propagate and firmly uphold, alongside the leaders of the Raafidha—those deceivers who inundate the world with lies and slanders. Their belief system is fundamentally rooted in lies and misguidance.

Among the prominent figures of Bidah and misguidance, including Jahm Bin Safwaan, leaders of the Khawaarij, the Mutazilah, the Huloolee Sufis, and grave worshippers such as Nidhaam Al-Mutazilee, Hallaaj the heretic, Ibn Arabi the heretic, Ibn Sab’een, At-Tilimsaanee, and others among the heretics – liars who concealed themselves within Islam, infiltrating the ranks of the people of Tasawwuf, as this group has proven to be a fertile ground for such individuals. Similarly, the Raafidah provides ample space for the heretics.

Among the liars in this era: The political leaders, including secularists and Baathists (Arab Nationalists), and many people who promote enticing slogans under the banner of Islam, such as Islamic socialism, Islamic democracy, and the call Wahdatul Adyan, along with various other erroneous assertions made in Islam’s name. These claims emerge from groups that profess to elevate Islam and aim to restore the Islamic Ummah to its former greatness; however, their actions only serve to lead people further into misguidance and ignorance, and we seek refuge in Allah.

This presents a more severe danger to the people and the youth, therefore, it is obligated to the Muslims and the students of knowledge to exercise utmost vigilance regarding such people. They must alert the Muslim community to their schemes and intentions, as well as expose their hidden agendas. Furthermore, Muslims should steadfastly adhere to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, emulating the Salafus Saaleh (pious predecessors) in their beliefs, methodologies, loyalty, and disassociation. Therefore, Muslims should engage with these individuals in the same manner as the Salafus Saaleh—by exercising caution, issuing warnings, revealing their concealed matters, and highlighting their shortcomings, all in the interest of safeguarding the religion and providing sincere counsel to the Muslims.

Concerning the ongoing struggle between those who uphold the truth and those who support falsehood throughout history and across various locations, it is essential to recognise that the truth will ultimately prevail, as promised by Allah. The religion He has established will triumph, and the followers of truth will gain superiority over those who propagate falsehood. It is inevitable that falsehood and its proponents will face defeat and ultimately fail. Consequently, it is imperative for the followers of truth—specifically the pure Ahlus Sunnah—to remain steadfast and resilient. They must diligently engage in all efforts that support the religion ordained by Allah, encompassing its beliefs, commands, prohibitions, rulings, and methodologies. Furthermore, they should ensure that the truth is upheld against falsehood in all its manifestations, whether it be outright disbelief, hypocrisy disguised as Islam, overt innovations, or innovations that masquerade as Islamic.

Allah, The Exalted, says:
هو الذي أرسل رسوله بالهدى ودين الحق ليظهره على الدين كله ولو كره المشركون

It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), to make it superior over all religions even though the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) hate (it)]. [at-Tawbah. 33]

Ahlul Ahwaa (the people of vain desires) share a common animosity with them, therefore, there is nothing else other than that the followers of truth must utilise the prescribed methods to actualise this promise, which is a duty of the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah. Wherever the adherents of the Salafi methodology and their students are or wherever they go, it is obligated to them step up and support one another to raise the truth, Tawheed, and Sunnah, and subdue Bidah, misguidance, and doubts; establishing Allah’s evidence against all the various misguided individuals and exposing the reality of deceivers and impostors. They should know that their adversaries have escalated their schemes and strategies, particularly in their efforts to silence many among Ahlus Sunnah and the adherents of truth, thereby preventing them from challenging falsehood disguised as truth. This category of people among the adherents of falsehood is more dangerous at employing deceit, duplicity, and feigning possession of qualities they do not actually have; as the Messenger, remarked, “The one who claims to possess what he does not is akin to the one who wears two garments of falsehood.” [e]

We find them as ones foremost in extolling the people of falsehood, making their affair appealing (or pleasing), while simultaneously being the most vehement in disparaging the followers of truth and its advocates. They have established corrupt principles to support falsehood and those who adhere to misguided methodologies, waging war against the proponents of truth through the formulation of schemes and abhorrent actions, manifesting their animosity towards the followers of truth, and hastening – without boredom and tiredness- to instruct the youth to resist the advocates of truth, striving diligently to bolster falsehood and undermine its adherents. We beseech Allah, the Exalted, to elevate His Word and guide these individuals or to relieve the Ummah from their evil. Indeed, our Lord is responsive to supplication. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, and companions until the Day of Judgment.

A Clarification By Ibn Al-Qayyim Sheds Light On The Basis of The Extreme Indecency at the So-called Opening Event of The Paris Olympics

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Quote:

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Whenever Tawheed in the heart is weaker and the Shirk in it is greater, it commits more indecency, becomes stronger in its attachment to images, and infatuated with them. Allah says:

So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs). And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency, and when they are angry, they forgive. [Ash-Shurat 36-37]

The basis of all sins – major and minor – are three: the heart’s attachment to other than Allah, going along with the intense strength of one’s anger and the intense urge of one’s desires. These three matters constitute shirk, injustice, and indecency. Shirk and invoking other than Allah is the ultimate affair related to the heart’s attachment to other than Allah, murder is the ultimate affair related to going along with one’s intense anger and fornication is the ultimate affair related to going along with the intense urge of one’s desires. Due to this, Allah mentioned the three together in the Ayah:

وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَدۡعُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ وَلَا يَقۡتُلُونَ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا يَزۡنُونَ

And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse. [Al-Furqaan. 68]

These three affairs invite to one another – Shirk inevitably leads to injustice and indecency, just as Tawheed [sound Islamic Monotheism] and Ikhlaas [sincerity] turn a person away from them. Allah [The Exalted] stated [about Prophet Yusuf)]: [ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ – Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and indecency. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves. [Surah Yusuf. Aayah 24] – Meaning, turned him away from infatuation and illegal sexual intercourse.

Likewise, injustice inevitably leads to Shirk and indecency because Shirk is the greatest injustice, just as Tawheed is the greatest justice. Justice is a companion of Tawheed and injustice is a companion of Shirk, and this is why Allah mentioned both together.

As for Tawheed and justice, Allah said: [شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُ ۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةُ وَأُوْلُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ قَآٮِٕمَۢا بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ – Allah bears witness that Laa ilaaha illaa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice]. [Aal Imran. Aayah 18]

As for injustice and Shirk, Allah says: [إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬ – Verily, Shirk is great injustice]. [Surah Luqmaan. 13]

Indecency leads to Shirk and Injustice, especially when there is a strong desire which cannot be reached except through some type of injustice, such as seeking help through magic and shaytaan. And indeed Allah mentions both fornication and Shirk together in the verse:

ٱلزَّانِى لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوۡ مُشۡرِكَةً۬ وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَآ إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوۡ مُشۡرِكٌ۬‌ۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٲلِكَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

The adulterer marries not but an adulteress, or a female polytheist and the adulteress none marries her except an adulterer or a male polytheist [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely he is either an adulterer, or a polytheist)]. And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a male polytheist or an adulterer, then she is either a prostitute or a female polytheist)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers [of Islamic Monotheism]. [An-Nur. 3]

These three affairs [i.e. Shirk, Indecency, and Injustice] can either be the cause of one another or inevitably lead to one another. This is why whenever Tawheed in the heart is weaker and the Shirk in it is greater, it commits more indecency, becomes stronger in its attachment to images, and infatuated with them. And what is similar to this is the statement of Allah:

So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs). And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency, and when they are angry, they forgive. [Ash-Shurat 36-37]

Allah informed us that what He has with Him is better for the one who believes in Him and relies upon him, and that is Tawheed. Then Allah says: [وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓٮِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٲحِشَ – And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency – Meaning, avoid the intense urge towards lowly desires]. Then Allah says: [وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمۡ يَغۡفِرُونَ – And when they are angry, they pardon]. This opposes the intense strength of anger; so Allah mentions Tawheed, pardon and justice together, and they are that which gathers every good. [An Excerpt from Al-Fawaa’id 131-132]

At the so-called opening ceremonies of the Olympics, it is increasingly common to see Satanists, secularists, and atheists showcasing infernal figures and terrifying animals. Quote: The ceremony’s artistic director, Thomas Jolly, said there was no intention to 2mock or denigrate anyone” and explained the scene in question was designed to reference pagan gods. [BBC 28 July 2024]

Allah, The Exalted, says:

And how should I fear those whom you associate in worship with Allah (though they can neither benefit nor harm), while you fear not that you have joined in worship with Allah things for which He has not sent down to you any authority. (So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know.” It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided. [Al-An’am 81-82]

Meaning: How can this be justified through sound intellect or to the one with sound understanding that one fears what you ascribe as partners to Allah, even though neither can it benefit nor harm, but you do not fear that you have ascribed things as partners to Allah for which Allah has neither sent down any proof nor legislated it?! The person who sets up a deity that has not created anything as a partner to Allah, [The Lord and owner of everything, the owner of all the means and causes of harm and benefit); rather such a deity is created, neither can it benefit nor harm itself and those who worship it, neither can it give life nor death, nor raise the dead], prostates to it, humbles himself to it and devoted to it, this person is more worthy of fearing (evil consequences and destruction) than the one who has not ascribed another deity as a partner to Allah, but rather he declares that Allah is one – the only true deity, the one with absolute Lordship, the only one who possesses perfect greatness and authority, the only deity that deserves to be loved, feared and direct one’s hope. [An Excerpt from Badaa’i at-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibnul Qayyim 1/352]

Allah, The Exalted,  says:

Or have they taken (for worship) aliha (gods) from the earth who raise the dead? Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allah, then verily both would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned. Or have they taken for worship (other) aliha (gods) besides Him? Say: “Bring your proof:” This (the Qur’an) is the Reminder for those with me and the Reminder for those before me. But most of them know not the Truth, so they are averse.  And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We inspired him (saying): La ilaha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah)], so worship Me (Alone and no one else).” [Al-Anbiyaa. 21-25]

Allah, The Exalted, states His disapproval of the polytheists – those who (worship things which they have adopted as) gods in the earth, even though these (so called) gods are absolutely incapacitated and powerless. Neither are they are able to bring them back to life nor resurrect them, and this is further explained by the statement of Allah:

 وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ آلِهَةً لاَ يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ وَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ ِلأَنفُسِهِمْ ضَرًّا وَلاَ نَفْعًا وَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ مَوْتًا وَلاَ حَيَاةً وَلاَ نُشُورًا

Yet they have taken besides Him other aliha (gods) that created nothing but are themselves created, and possess neither hurt nor benefit for themselves, and possess no power (of causing) death, nor (of giving) life, nor of raising the dead. [Al-Furqaan. 3]

Allah, The Exalted, says:

وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً لَعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُحْضَرُونَ

And they have taken besides Allah aliha (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so-called gods). They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning). [Yaa Seen 74-75]

A polytheist [or idolater] worships a created thing that can neither benefit nor harm, and he abandons sincere worship to Allah – The One Who is Perfect [i.e. the only possessor of Perfect Names and Attributes; free from all weaknesses, shortcomings, and imperfections], and in His Hand is the absolute control over all benefit and harm. This shows that a polytheist [or idolater] is not blessed [with guidance], his ignorance is established as well as the severity of his unjust behaviour towards Allah because it is only befitting that there is only one [true] deity, just as there cannot be except one [true] Lord. And because of this, Allah, The Exalted, says:

لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allah, then verily both [i.e. the heavens and the earth] would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! [Al-Anbiyaa. 22]- Meaning: Both the heavens and the earth would have been ruined as well the creation in them.

The heavens and the earth – as one can see – are in a perfect state, intact and in perfect order. Neither is there any defect in them and obstacles [to its perfect order] nor conflict in its organisation. Therefore, this shows that the One who controls and regulates its affairs is One- its Lord is one and the deity [under whose control they are maintained] is One. If it were the case that the heavens and the earth has two [deities] that control and regulate its affairs- two lords or more, then its perfect order would have been ruined and its foundations would have been undermined. That is because they would have been obstacles and opponents to one another; so if one of them wishes to plan and administer something and the other one wishes that it should not take place, then it would be impossible for both their wishes to be fulfilled. [On the other hand], the fulfillment of the wishes of one of them would have shown that the other one is weak and unable to do whatever he wants; and it is impossible that both of them will agree on everything.  Therefore, the wish of The Irresistible [i.e. Allah- the only True Lord and besides Him every other deity is false]- is what will be fulfilled without anyone being able to prevent or repel it. And this is why Allah [The Exalted] said:

مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلاَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

No son (or offspring or children) did Allah beget, nor is there any ilah (god) along with Him; (if there had been many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have tried to overcome others! Glorified be Allah above all that they attribute to Him! [Al-Muminoon. 91] [An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi. Slightly paraphrased]
