Neighbours

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Muhammad Bin Abdillah As-Subayyil, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked: “What are the rights of a neighbour?”

Response: The rights of a neighbour are great and many. Indeed, many ahadith have been narrated regarding the rights of a neighbour and among them is the hadith narrated by Abdullah Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Jibreel did not cease advising me (about the rights) of a neighbour to the extent that I thought he (i.e. the neighbour) would be my inheritor”. [Bukhari and Muslim]

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said: “By Allah, he does not believe (i.e. he is not a perfect believer); by Allah, he does not believe (i.e. he is not a perfect believer); by Allah, he does not believe (i.e. he is not a perfect believer); It was said: Who O Messenger of Allah? He said: The one whose neighbour is not safe from his evil behaviour. [Al-Bukhari]

And there are other narrations that shows the greatness of a neighbour’s rights. There are three types of neighbours: The neighbour with three rights; the neighbour with two rights and the neighbour with one.

The neighbour with three rights is the relative, who has rights as a relative, as a Muslim and the rights of a neighbour.

The neighbour with two rights is a Muslim neighbour, who has rights as a neighbour and as a Muslim.

As for neighbour with one right, he (or she) is a non-Muslim neighbour and has the rights of a neighbour. [1]

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: ”He is not a (true) believer whose Stomach is filled while his neighbour is hungry”. [2]

Al-Allamah Zayd Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

This Hadith (clearly demonstrates) that the one whose stomach is filled while his neighbour is hungry is not a believer of complete Iman. A person of complete Iman is the one who checks on his neighbour if the neighbour is in need of him. It is not possible for a neighbour to be enjoying himself with foods and drinks while his (other) neighbour cannot find anything and he does not give him anything. This does not reflect the manners of a believer with complete Iman. And because of this, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, negated the completeness (of the Iman of the one who behaves in such a manner); rather a believer of complete Iman is the one who is generous to his neighbour as much as he is able, especially when he is in need of an essential (thing) such as food and drink. [3]

Question: A neighbour of mine and his children harm me through their speech and actions, will I be rewarded due to being patient with them?

Response: There is no doubt that you will be rewarded (In-Shaa-Allaah) due to your patience while receiving harm from your neighbour and his children. This patience of yours is from good manners and kind treatment to your neighbour. Indeed Allah, The Most High, advised His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about kindness to neighbours, saying:

Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masakin (the poor), the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allah does not like such as are proud and boastful. [4:36]

The Messenger said: “Jibreel did not cease advising me (about the rights) of a neighbour to the extent that I thought he (i.e. the neighbour) would be my inheritor”. [Bukhari and Muslim]

Therefore, be steadfast in exercising patience and you’ll receive reward and a good recompense from Allah (In-Shaa-Allah). There is no doubt that your neighbour is committing evil deeds. The Messenger said:

By Allah, he does not believe (i.e. he is not a perfect believer); by Allah, he does not believe (i.e. he is not a perfect believer); by Allah, he does not believe (i.e. he is not a perfect believer); it was said: Who O Messenger of Allah? He said: The one whose neighbour is not safe from his evil behaviour. [Reported by Bukhari] [4]

The Great Danger of Social Unrest: Witnessing Is Not the Same as Being Informed

In The Name of Allah, The Most Mericiful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The one who has witnessed events is not the same as the one who has been informed. After colonialism, we lived in a nation that was peaceful with strong familial ties. The first ruler, following our so-called independence from Western colonisation, was loved by many people. He was gentle and tolerant. Like every other post-colonialism country, perfection is is found in any leadership, yet there was a priceless blessing from Allah in our country: peace and security. We had no army as a nation, only a gentle police force. Then, in 1981, a group of young men, may Allah forgive them, orchestrated a coup. I was just 11 years old at the time, and I can recall the announcement made by the coup leaders on Radio Gambia. The first statement I memorized as a 11-year-old was from the spokesperson or leader of the coup, declaring: “Long live the revolution, long live the supreme council of the revolution, hello Gambians, this is no magical question unanswerable”.

The neighboring country, if you wish to refer to it that way, is actually part of the same extended families, clans, and tribes. The only reason we became two separate nations was because of the territorial divisions imposed by the British and the French. Anyone who examines the map will notice that Gambia is in reality a province of Senegal, had it not been for that colonial demarcation. The Senegalese military intervened, leading to arm struggle against rebels and other criminals, resulting in bloodshed that was entirely a very strange thing to Gambians. A week of fighting, while everyone remained indoors, felt like months due to the loss of our freedom of movement and the great sense of safety we had never experienced losing before 1981.

Once the Senegalese army established control, they remained in the country for two years to ensure stability. However, there were ongoing curfews for a long time until life returned to normal. If you had found yourself in a small room, packed with your family, too afraid to step outside, and the best meal you could have was white rice and sardines, you would have truly valued the sense of safety that existed before the coup. You would have come to understand and appreciate the importance of safety and security, even if many lived with very little. Yet, the peace, security, love, and harmony that came with poverty were invaluable compared to the promise of justice through rebellion, chaos, hostility, and violence. After being guided to the Sunnah at the age of 23, the reality of khuruj became clearer to us, as the narrations about the prohibition against khuruj reflected the truths we had experienced in the past. Indeed, the one who witnessed is not the same as the one who is informed. In this regard, the insights provided by the Scholars and their advice against Khuruj based upon the Sunnah are even more appreciated.

Scholarly Clarifications

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَٲهِـۧمُ رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡ هَـٰذَا بَلَدًا ءَامِنً۬ا وَٱرۡزُقۡ أَهۡلَهُ ۥ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٲتِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡہُم بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ‌ۖ

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said: My Lord, make this city (Makkah) a place of security and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day]. [Al-Baqara. 126]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allaah protect him, said:

He (Ibrahim – peace be upon him) prioritized security in his supplication over the pursuit of sustenance because security is an essential requirement. Without security, individuals cannot truly enjoy sustenance, as fear undermines the ability to attain it. This is precisely what adversaries aim for—those who seek to destabilise Muslim societies. They wish to create division among Muslims and weaken their unity behind their leaders. This is what they desire – in the guise of promoting beneficial outcomes, rectification, and the alleviation of oppression. They do not desire good advice for the Muslims.

This is all false pretenses, as the absence of rulership would lead to widespread chaos, the proliferation of corruption, and the failure of the promised benefits. Corruption would become rampant, and rectification would be unattainable. Consequently, it is imperative for Muslims to unite under a leadership structure. Even if such leadership exhibits flaws and negligence, the populace should practice patience, as this patience serves to avert greater harm and adversity. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “It is not known of a group that has ever risen against their Muslim ruler without their circumstances deteriorating further after his removal.” This observation is evident in contemporary times. What is the situation of the countries where the rulers and heads of state have been removed? There has not ceased to be fear, anxiety, chaos, and bloodshed etc. [1]

This underscores the significance of safety as a fundamental necessity for individuals. Otherwise, Ibrahim, peace be upon him, would not have persistently sought Allah’s assistance in establishing it in this land. Consider the regions where a system that ensures safety has deteriorated. In such places, the populace struggles to manage their daily affairs; schools and markets remain closed, and individuals are confined to their homes. Those who have the means often seek to escape to safer locations. When inquiring with one of them, it becomes evident that they feel unable to coexist with their community and family in an environment devoid of safety.

Security can only be effectively established through two key principles: the implementation of Allah’s Laws and obedience to the rulers. The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, elucidated this essential matter for Muslims in their lives. Irbad Sariyah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, delivered an admonition after the morning prayer—an admonition that instilled fear in our hearts and brought tears to our eyes. A man then asked, ‘Is this a farewell sermon, and what counsel do you offer us?’ He replied, ‘I enjoin on you to fear Allah and to listen and obey, even if an Abyssinian slave is appointed as your ruler. Indeed, those among you who live long enough will witness many differences. Therefore, be cautious of newly introduced matters in the religion, for they lead to misguidance. Whoever among you observes such occurrences is obliged to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs, holding firmly to it with your molar teeth.'” [Ahmad 3/126]

This hadith lays the foundations for security within Islam, which consists of two primary components. The first is fear of Allah (The Most High), understood in its fullest and most comprehensive sense. The second component is the adherence to the rulers in matters that are just and beneficial. The fear of Allah fosters a Muslim’s relationship with Allah, their neighbours, and the surrounding environment. Conversely, the absence of Allah’s Shariah leads to chaos and moral decay. Indeed, Allah (The Mighty and Majestic) has issued a warning to those who forsake His Shariah and disobey His Messenger. Allah said:

And Allah puts forward the example of a township (Makkah), that dwelt secure and well content; its provision coming to it in abundance from every place, but it (its people) denied the Favours of Allah (with ungratefulness). So Allah made it taste the extreme of hunger (famine) and fear, because of that (evil, i.e. denying Prophet Muhammad) which they (its people) used to do. [Al-Nahl. 112]

Listening to and obeying the rulers in a (positive manner) ensures that an individual’s affairs within society remain orderly. This act of compliance is intrinsically linked to fear of Allah. Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “Indeed, Al-Hajjaaj is a manifestation of Allah’s punishment; therefore, do not attempt to counteract Allah’s punishment with your own hands. Instead, it is essential to submit and exhibit humility, as Allah, the Most High, has stated:

وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

And Indeed We seized them with punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allaah) with submission to Him]. [Al-Muminun. 76]

You see a person who possesses a true understanding of security and his awareness is increased through fear of Allah, thus, he is eager to obey the rulers. However, when there is a lapse in their piety, their sense of security may diminish. Once fear of Allah is established, they they will attain the promise that Allah has mentioned (as follows):

Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). [Al-Nur 55]

The lack of obedience to the ruler and prioritizing personal interests over that of the ruler is among the most significant factors leading to the corruption of both the land and its inhabitants, as well as a deviation from the path of righteousness and guidance. Al Hasan Al Basri, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated, “By Allah! The establishment of religion is only possible through rulers—despite their potential for tyranny and oppression—because they rectify numerous matters through their governance that outweigh the corruption they may cause.” Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated, “The worldly life holds significant benefits when rulers are followed. Through this obedience, the essential matters concerning the sustenance of the populace are established, enabling them to utilize these means as support in demonstrating their faith and fulfilling their obligations to their Lord.” Read: http://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-tyranny-of-the-rulers-a-reason-for-rebellion/

Disregarding the authority of rulers and prioritizing oneself through conflict or other means equates to defying Allah and His Messenger, as well as opposing the principles upheld by Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah, the righteous predecessors. The maintenance of security fosters unity and cooperation among Muslims. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, stated:

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion). So, make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy. [Al-Hujurat. 10]

Allah, The Most High, said:

The believers, men and women, are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’ruf, and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar; they perform As-Salat and give the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. [at-Tawbah 71]

Iman is neither a matter of wishful thinking or superficial assertions; it is a conviction that resides in the heart, evidenced by one’s actions. A true believer cannot be considered as such until he desires for his Muslim brother what he desires for himself and interacts with others in a manner he wishes to be treated. It is universally acknowledged that security is a fundamental aspiration for all; thus, it is incumbent upon a Muslim to actively seek the security of others in order to attain security and safety for himself. Furthermore, maintaining security within a community requires the fulfillment of trusts, while creating an atmosphere of insecurity equates to betrayal. Allah, the Most High, has stated:

O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat (things entrusted to you, and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you). And know that your possessions and your children are but a trial and that surely with Allah is a mighty reward. O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allah, He will grant you Furqan a criterion [(to judge between right and wrong), or (Makhraj, i.e. making a way for you to get out from every difficulty)], and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you, and Allah is the Owner of the Great Bounty. [Al-Anfal. 27-29]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “They [i.e. Ahlus Sunnah] know that Allah sent Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for the benefit of the creation in this life and the next, and Allah commands rectification and not corruption”. (2)

End this moral distortion- A Brief Dialogue With Sivan Koren

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah; even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. [An-Nisaa. 135]

by by

In the above article, one of the things Sivan Koren mentioned was that: “Academia, which should symbolize openness and respectful dialogue, has in many cases transformed into an arena where hate is legitimized. The disturbing case at Columbia University serves as a stark warning. A professor who praised Hamas’s brutal attack – which led to the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis – was allowed to teach a course on Zionism. How can someone like this be entrusted with teaching the history of the Jewish people? This decision is not only a moral affront but also evidence of a profound ethical distortion and irresponsibility on the part of the institution’s leadership”]. [End of quote]

Response: Firstly, Sivan expresses strong disapproval of the professor’s conduct and finds it unreasonable to permit him to teach Jewish history. Indeed, it is noteworthy that individuals who adopt a balanced and equitable perspective on this issue are exceedingly rare. Many either rationalise the actions of Hamas against civilians and non-combatants or remain silent regarding the disproportionate retaliation executed by Netanyahu’s forces. Others may manipulate the narrative, attempting to obscure the fact that this conflict, despite the indefensible nature of Hamas’s unlawful killings, has persisted for over 70 years, marked by relentless vuolence.

Furthermore, the question of whether one condemns Hamas has been reiterated by numerous allies of Netanyahu and journalists, to which truthful individuals have responded with clarity, as evidenced in the reply: “Do you condemn Hamas?”, “we condemn everyone who opposes the Divine Legislation by killing innocent civilians, including non-combatant men, the elderly, women, children, priests, monks and the likes, no matter who they are, Muslim or non-Muslim, whether ISIS, al-Qaeda, Hamas, Boko Haram or Benjamin Mileikowsky, the IDF, Settlers and their likes. Our condemnation is on the basis that such actions are unjust and oppose Divine Legislation and not because of the race or ethnicity or religion of the perpetrators, and thus we are able to maintain moral consistency and integrity. This is unlike Western politicians who are able to swiftly condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and support Ukraine (the invaded and occupied in this case) with money and weapons for resistance, but unwilling to condemn the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Gazans, while supporting the Mileikowsky regime with bombs, missiles and military hardware to facilitate the execution of that genocide and ethnic cleansing”. [1] [Refer to this clarification by Shaikh Abu Iyaad at the end of this article]

It is imperative to consider that should this anti-Zionist professor have indeed praised the actions of Hamas, no rational individual would find merit in his assertions, provided that such statements were made explicitly and not distorted by sensationalist narratives. The abhorrent nature of taking innocent lives has already been sufficiently addressed. However, some Zionist leaders, including Netanyahu, have also made profoundly reckless remarks, thus, they must be condemned openly. Unlawful killing is to be openly condemned, irrespective of the faith or political position of its perpetrators, be they Jewish, Christian, or Muslim. Explore the link below to discover some dangerous statements made by certain Zionist figureheads:

Must take a look at what is happening in their own backyard first

Perhaps, one of the most compelling admonitions on this subject comes from Prince Turki Al-Faisal, may Allah protect him. Listen:

Secondly, just as we would reject the assertions made by this professor if he indeed expressed such views, it is equally important to critically evaluate the claims made by journalists such as Melanie Phillips, who commands a larger audience and has previously commented on a subject grounded in research, saying:

“Islamophobia is a bogus label”.

She said:

the taunt of Islamophobia is used to silence any criticism of the Islamic world, including Islamic extremism” and “facilitates” antisemitism. [2]

If Melanie’s assertion pertains to individuals who level accusations against any group of Jews without substantiation or harbour animosity towards them solely based on their ethnicity, it is imperative that the claims of those who profess to experience Islamophobia be rigorously examined. Such individuals may themselves exhibit prejudice, and their assertions could merely represent an unwarranted response to critiques of their behaviour. This is why the issue of anti-Semitism has been previously addressed, highlighting its unequivocal condemnation within Islam. Read:

https://abuiyaad.com/sn/muslims-antisemitism

However, it’s important to ensure that this rejection of anti-Semitism does not serve as a pretext to suppress candid and open dialogue, nor to hinder the presentation of concrete evidence regarding the atrocities committed by members of the IDF and the settlers. For over seventy years, successive Zionist administrations- regardless of whether they are considered less harmful or not – have relentlessly pursued dominance, inflicting suffering, displacement, and humiliation upon the Palestinian people. In addition, Netanyahu quotes abrogated scriptures to justify acts of aggression. Read:

https://abuiyaad.com/a/amalekite-genocide-doctrine-gaza

As for if Melanie’s assertion that “Islamophobia is a bogus label” was intended to suggest that Muslims do not face hatred or discrimination based on their faith, this is indeed reflects an absurd misunderstanding of the realities faced by many individuals within the Muslim community. However, we will refrain from making definitive conclusions about her statement, allowing for multiple interpretations and contexts. We will not assert that Melanie endorses any particular interpretation until she provides further clarification regarding her intended message, whether it aligns with one of the interpretations we have proposed or presents a different perspective altogether. Read:

The Way Forward For Muslim Minorities Living In An Atmosphere of Anti-Islamic Sentiment: Reflections After The Massacre in New Zealand by Abu Khadeejah

As for criticism against the Islamic world, even though the religion of Islam is the final path ordained by the Creator, it does not mean that Muslims are infallible, rather, they are humans who will make mistakes just as any other human being. As for Islam itself, it can never be criticised because it is infallible, and none criticises it except a confused or biased individual.

Regarding extremism, no sane Muslim who understand the revelation – the Qur’an and Sunnah – will condone it, but it is not determined based on human ideas or philosophies or the opinion of ideologues, demagogues and rabble-rousers, rather, extremism – in Islam – is anything that goes beyond what is legislated just as negligence is anything that falls short in a blameworthy manner. Muslims are not infallible; they are, like all humans, susceptible to error. However, the essence of Islam itself remains beyond reproach, as it is considered infallible, and critiques typically arise from individuals who are either misinformed or biased. Islam’s judgement on extremism or negligence is not defined by subjective human ideologies or the perspectives of ideologues, demagogues, and provocateurs. Visit:

http://www.islamagainstextremism.com/

Thirdly, this Melanie also stated: “Across the world, when nations go to war, the average is 1-9: 9 civilians to every combatant killed. 1-1 is unheard of. No country in the world has ever managed to reduce the number of civilians killed in the way that Israel has. Israel is being accused by the prosecutor of the international criminal court of wilfully killing civilians. International law and human rights law has not stopped any of these things. It has not stopped Putin, it has not stopped China…it has not stopped Asad to kill untold thousands of people. It doesn’t stop tyrants. That’s why human rights law has now unfortunately, generally human rights culture, human rights law, human rights institutions, the ICC, the ICJ, the international Court of Justice, the United Nations, the big NGOs (non-governmental organisations) that deal with human rights, they’ve all been captured by an ideology which basically says, “Jewish State of Israel must go”. [3]

Response: The inevitability of collateral damage in warfare is universally acknowledged, irrespective of the party that instigates the conflict. Innocent individuals, who neither initiated nor wished for the war, invariably suffer. Melanie’s portrayal of the actions of the Zionist State attempts to present them as humane and just, yet it is crucial to recognize that, over the past seventy years, no group has endured greater suffering at the hands of the Zionists than the Palestinians. For Muslims from any nation, the past 75 years have been marked by the harrowing accounts of their grandparents, who have either witnessed or heard of the atrocities committed by the Zionists.

Furthermore, Palestinians continue to face the ongoing violence justified under the guise of self-defense and retaliation. Thus, regardless of the parties responsible for unlawful killings in conflicts, the Zionists have undeniably played a significant role in the suffering experienced by the Palestinians.

As for Melanie’s general examination and perspective on international law and human rights, it has been addressed by individuals who possess a true fear of Allah, and the implications of their insights have already been acknowledged.  [Footnote a]

Finally, it is important to acknowledge that if the organisations referenced by Melanie are opposing the Zionists for legitimate reasons, particularly in light of the atrocities committed over the past seventy-five years, especially in recent times, they deserve recognition for their efforts. However, it is essential to remind Melanie that some of these organizations, notably the United Nations, were historically employed by colonial powers to assist Zionists in dispossessing Palestinians of their land, property, dignity, and security. This is an undeniable aspect of history that cannot be overlooked. While it may be convenient for Melanie to assert that these organizations are acting against the Zionist State, it is crucial to recognize that the same UN has been utilized by Christian Zionist ideologues to facilitate the gradual appropriation of land by Zionists up to the present day. A thorough examination of the historical context surrounding these events is necessary. Read a brief historical account on these links:

Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali – [111]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

What the people of desires say about Ahlus Sunnah (is that) their preoccupation with refutations is incorrect; no, they are busy with beneficial knowledge, then they would refute the people of bidah when there is a need.

This is nobility because (refutation against ahlul bidah) is (an act of) sincerity to Allah and to His Book; (sincere advice) to the Muslim rulers and their common folk – a path they follow based on the path of the (pious) predecessors to protect the religion.

pro-Jihadi Gospels of a Genocide – A Frank Brief Dialogue With Yisrael Medad

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah; even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. [An-Nisaa. 135]

Brief Clarification:

To begin with, the term Pro-Jihadi refers to the basis or style of certain claims that Yisrael is addressing. This is illustrated by one of Yisrael’s statements as follows:

“The current self-inflicted crucifixion of the Jewish state may not have started with Jews, but by assisting the libelous pro-jihadi gospels of a ‘genocide’ and such, they lend a hand to nailing us all to a new cross of antisemitism.”

In this context, “Pro-Jihadi” clearly points to the origin of the claims, which is neither aligned with Yisrael nor Abdullah. To proceed:

Indeed, the first point we want to clarify to Yisrael Medad is that our Lord has instructed us to uphold justice and bear witness to the truth, no matter who we are addressing, including Yisrael. We do not resort to emotional appeals, a victim mentality, racial or tribal affiliations, or nationalist ties to dismiss the truth and advocate for our own people based on falsehood, as this brings about the wrath and discontent of our creator.

In this brief article, we aim to address Yisrael’s piece by focusing on what is clear rather than relying on speculation, assumptions, or exaggerations. This kind of behavior is often associated with numerous Zionist journalists and academics, particularly during the recent conflict in Palestine.

Yisrael said: “Are Israelis facilitating an anti-Israel blood libel? – opinion [end of quote]

Response: Has the administration of Netanyahu – which includes the likes of of Itamar Ben-Gvir, the leader of Otzma Yehudit, far-right, Kahanist- provided their critics with unequivocal evidence concerning their actions since October 7? – opinion

Yisrael said: Jews can be very dangerous to other Jews. In Medieval times, apostates turned on their former co-religionists. Nicholas Donin brought charges against the Talmud before Pope Gregory IX, which resulted in the burning of twenty-four cartloads of tomes in 1442. Another, Pablo Christiani, lost a public dispute with Nahmanides in Barcelona before James I of Aragon in 1263, and then denounced the Talmud before Pope Clement IV the following year. [end of quote]

Response: Among all groups of people, there exist certain factions that may pose a threat to others; however, this perception of danger can often be quite subjective. Therefore, every assertion of danger needs to be scrutinised to determine if it is genuine, fabricated, or if it is being used subjectively to hinder others from providing truthful accounts against their community, ethnicity, clan, or tribe. In relation to Yisrael’s above statement, our primary focus should be that the discussion of apostasy between Jews and Christians ought to be referred back to the final divine revelation for judgment. Allah, The Most High, said:

And judge (O Muḥammad) between them by what Allāh revealed and do not follow their desires and beware of them (the corrupt scholars of the Jews), lest they tempt you away from some of what Allāh revealed (in the Torah regarding the prescribed punishments for crimes). And if they turn away (from the judgement of the Qurʾān and unabrogated Torah law), then know that Allāh only intends to afflict them with some of their (past) sins (to hasten their punishment). And indeed, many among mankind are (rebellious) sinners. [1]

Secondly, regarding the specifics of the incident referenced by Yisrael, if it was founded on falsehoods, then it is clear that even for those who do not believe in the final Messenger, it remains unacceptable to lie about them. This applies whether the liar is a stranger, an apostate from Islam, a Muslim, a Jew, a Hindu, or anyone else, including adversaries of the victim. The crux of the matter is whether the statements made were true or false; if they are true, they should be recognised as such without inflicting oppression on any member of humanity. If the incident involved lies, misrepresentation, and the concealment of facts aimed at putting those Jews in jeopardy, the wrongdoing of the liar would be deemed even more abhorrent. Despite the well-documented confusion, hidden agendas, and deep-seated animosity among the people of the scripture in history, we do not support any form of injustice. Therefore, while we cannot definitively determine the particulars of that event, we express the above in general terms until concrete evidence regarding the incident is presented. We have been instructed in the Qur’an about the dispute of the people of the Scripture as follows:

So unto this (religion of Islam, alone and this Qur’an) then invite (people) (O Muhammad ), and Istaqim [(i.e. stand firm and straight on Islamic Monotheism by performing all that is ordained by Allah (good deeds, etc.), and by abstaining from all that is forbidden by Allah (sins and evil deeds, etc.)], as you are commanded, and follow not their desires but say: “I believe in whatsoever Allah has sent down of the Book [all the holy Books, this Qur’an and the Books of the old from the Tawrat (Torah), or the Injeel (Gospel) or the Pages of Ibrahim (Abraham)] and I am commanded to do justice among you, Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allah will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return. [Ash-Shuraa. 15]

“and I am commanded to do justice among you”.

Meaning, when passing judgement regarding that which you have differed between yourselves.

Therefore, your enmity and hatred does not prevent me from judging with justice between you. And part of justice is that when judging between people who make different statements – amongst the people of the Scripture and others – one accepts what they possess of truth and reject what they possess of falsehood. [2]

Yisrael said: A more modern example was the meeting that bi-nationalist promoter Judah L. Magnes had on May 4, 1948, with US secretary of state George Marshall. Magnes insisted “the Jewish community in Palestine is an artificial development” and “the money now contributed to the Jewish community was being used solely for war which eats up everything. Furthermore, he was “certain that, if contributions from the United States were cut off, the Jewish war machine in Palestine would come to a halt for lack of financial fuel.” The next morning he repeated his thoughts to president Harry S. Truman. [end of quote]

Response: Our goal on this point is not to delve into the political disputes between the Jewish community and those among them who oppose Zionism. Instead, our primary focus is to confront the harmful tactics employed by Netanyahu and his associates, which involve distorting history and laying claim to what is not rightfully theirs, ultimately leading to acts excessive retaliation after October 7. Furthermore, certain American ideologues and demagogues behave as if they have lost all ability to distinguish betwen right and wrong when required to do so, but we are well aware that their actions stem from a historical collaboration of misinterpreted texts. Yisrael said: Subsequent to the charge that Israel’s government is engaging in a “hobby” of killing Gaza babies, former prime minister Ehud Olmert joined the fray and told the BBC that Israel’s actions in Gaza are “close to a war crime.” In a May 27 column in Haaretz, he referred to the current government as a “criminal gang” led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

That, seemingly, wasn’t sufficient enough media exposure, so the former prime minister talked with the New Yorker magazine. That publication’s June 6 headline read, “Why Ehud Olmert Thinks His Country Is Committing War Crimes.”

Olmert’s opinion is that there is “no purpose that can justify the expansion of these military activities.” He told his interviewer, Isaac Chotiner, that “The perception in Israel is that this is a personal war or illegitimate war that is being conducted exclusively because of the political interests of the prime minister. This is a crime.”

For good measure, he added that there is an “understanding that Netanyahu doesn’t want to reach an agreement with Hamas for the release of the hostages.” Not only are Netanyahu and the IDF indiscriminately killing Gaza civilians but, it would appear, Israel’s hostages as well, as Olmert spins it. [end of quote]

Response: The entire world observes the actions of the Netanyahu Regime, yet you find yourself preoccupied with the opinions of a select few among you? Should you not be more concerned about your standing before your Lord than the fear of criticism grounded in reality? Both Jews and non-Jews are aware of the unfolding events; anyone possessing a modicum of common sense and a shred of humanity can clearly discern the actions of Netanyahu in Gaza. It is as evident as the midday sun. They are engaging in war crimes and genocide! This is an undeniable truth, even if Ehud were to assert otherwise. Regardless of Ehud’s perspective, your warfare is recognised and clearly perceived as excessive, driven by an agenda to eradicate all Palestinians from their homeland, accompanied with murder, maiming, deceit, playing the victim, and distorting the narrative. This alone constitutes a crime, irrespective of what any influential figure may proclaim in favour or against Netanyahu. As for the actions of Hamas on October 7 against non-combatants and unarmed civilians, such behaviour cannot be justified by anyone possessing common sense or even a modicum of decency. Listen to this link for the rebuke aimed at Netanyahu’s Administration and Hamas by Prince Turki Al-Faisal, may Allah preserve him.

Therefore, should you believe that there is indeed spinning at play, you are fully entitled to hold that view and engage in discourse with those whom you deem responsible for such spinning. Nevertheless, the undeniable truth remains that Netanyahu’s actions towards the Palestinians are as evident as the midday sun, and they can only be described as genocide.

Yisrael said: Chotiner does inform the reader that “allegations of corruption cut short his political career” and that. Olmert “did serve more than a year in prison.” Odd, though, that simple “allegations” managed to imprison him.

THE PERCEPTIVE reader will notice that Olmert employed the tactic of shifting his evidence by reshuffling the deck. In what “Israel” has that “perception” of his occurred? How many people are involved? Of what ideological stripe are they? Do they possess personal interests? Such a portrayal of the current situation is tantamount to a treacherous Lord Haw-Haw performance.

Perhaps Olmert himself was seeking to resurrect his own public memory, like others. For example, in an interview with Israeli outlet Ynet on May 9, Moshe Ya’alon, a former defense minister, joined in the discordant chorus and said Israel was carrying out a campaign of “ethnic cleansing” in Gaza.

He attacked the current military chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, saying he was not stopping “clearly illegal orders” and was ordering “his soldiers to be war criminals.” Adamantly, he said, “Call it ethnic cleansing, call it transfer, call it deportation – it’s a war crime.” To Channel 12 news, Ya’alon said: “I don’t say anymore [that the IDF is] the most moral army in the world.”

These types of charges are not new. Those with long memories can recall the late Meretz MKs Shulamit Aloni and Yossi Sarid outside then prime minister Menachem Begin’s residence in Jerusalem. They were at a late September 1982 demonstration protesting the conduct of the First Lebanon War.

From those gathered, cries of “Begin is a murderer” could be clearly heard. Right-of-center politicians in Israel rarely merit anything less than vicious besmirching from their political rivals, especially when the latter are in the opposition. [end of quote]

Response: These are merely your internal issues, which bear no relation to us. The real question is whether your retaliatory war is justified in its execution, especially considering that you have been the instigators of this conflict since 1948, accompanied by acts of brutality. Regardless of the political, ideological, or personal disputes among you and your various interests, the undeniable truth is that Netanyahu is guilty of genocide. Furthermore, whatever transpired during Olmert’s administration, all participants in the Zionist endeavour share responsibility, albeit to varying degrees. Nevertheless, the current emphasis must be on the fact that Netantahu is engaged in genocide, unequivocally. To label the Zionist IDF as the most moral army is one of the greatest falsehoods of our time and a profound affront to the intelligence of anyone possessing even a modicum of common sense. How can such claims be made when members of your military have since 1948, brutalised, murdered, displaced, and treated the Palestinian people in the most callous manner, all while the world looks on? Since 1948, their actions are well-documented, regardless of whether some among you have opposed them at times. All of this is irrelevant to the fact that Netanyahu engaged in genocide.

Yisrael said: Jewish in-fighting rarely remains inside, however. It quite often grants outsiders the ammunition to justify their hate and biases.

IT IS in this divisive internal atmosphere that we could read on June 10 that UN experts issued a report that Israel is committing an “extermination” in Gaza by killing in schools. Those “experts,” of course, were members of the infamous Independent International Commission of Inquiry of Palestinian Territory. Their next report (there have been at least seven) is already out and is to be presented at the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council’s 59th session this or next month. [end of quote]

Response: No race, clan, tribe, religious, or political group is devoid of moments of unity or discord, whether these arise from truth or falsehood, or are driven by the sinister intentions of a faction among them. Nevertheless, this does not alter the undeniable reality of Netanyahu’s malevolent actions against the Palestinians, which are evident to all. These actions may be rightly scrutinised by fellow Jews seeking accountability, or they may be wrongfully exploited by others to fuel anti-Semitic sentiments. Thus, the crux of the matter lies in achieving a fair equilibrium, ensuring that Netanyahu is held responsible for his atrocious acts by all nations and organisations, while simultaneously guarding against the temptation to punish these actions through the lens of anti-Semitic bias. Both genocide and anti-semitism are crimes in the sight of Allah. Read below:

Yisrael said: Already back on May 21, we were informed that UN experts were calling on the Security Council to protect women and girls in Gaza as Israel’s “attacks [possess]… distinctly gendered consequences.” They added that “The devastation experienced by women, girls, and entire communities is not incidental – it is the consequence of intentional policies and actions by Israel.”

That new report added that “Israeli authorities have particularly targeted female educators and students, intending to deter women and girls from activism in public places.” How could Israel particularly single out females? What new technological advances exist for this new blood libel to emerge? [end of quote]

Response: This is an astonishing display of victim mentality! No matter the specifics of some individuals’ actions in the IDF, it is abundantly clear to all that they have been responsible for the deaths of doctors, teachers, journalists, and others. This is widely recognised in this conflict. They have taken more lives in these professions than anyone else in recent history. Additionally, just as Netanyahu and his associates consistently exploit anti-Semitism to obscure their misdeeds and maintain a victim narrative, they also invoke this ‘blood libel card’ whenever they are justly accused of brutality. Regarding the particular targeting of women, whether this is precisely documented or not is not the crux of the matter; rather, what must be addressed is the killing that evidently placed all doctors in harm’s way. Thus, whether the IDF forces under Netanyahu specifically target females is irrelevant; the crimes of many among them are thoroughly documented.

Yisrael said: Previously, we were fed fantasies of dogs who could sniff out Arabs from Jews as well as other animal conspiracies from sharks to wild boars to dolphins doing our bidding. In July 2009, Hamas charged Israeli intelligence services with supplying chewing gum to Gaza that “boosts the sex drive in order to corrupt the young,” a regurgitation of the 1997 tale spread by the Palestinian Authority of strawberry-flavored chewing gum laced with progesterone.

These Israeli voices are influencing Jews abroad. Rick Jacobs, president of America’s Union for Reform Judaism, wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post on May 12 urging Israel to abandon a policy of “starving Gazan civilians,” calling it “immoral.” Needless to say, Israel is not engaged in such a policy.

The current self-inflicted crucifixion of the Jewish state may not have started with Jews, but by assisting the libelous pro-jihadi gospels of a “genocide” and such, they lend a hand to nailing us all to a new cross of antisemitism. [end of quote]

Response: The responsibility to provide evidence lies with the claimant. Any accusations made against Netanyahu’s regime must be substantiated with proof; otherwise, we shall dismiss them. However, this does not negate the undeniable reality that they members of the IDF have engaged in acts of genocide. A criminal is answerable for his offenses, yet he is not deemed guilty of other alleged crimes, despite the presence of sinister suspicions surrounding him. Consequently, due to their transgressions, we harbour a dark suspicion regarding them, but nothing can be attributed to them unless it is verified and confirmed with evidence. Regarding the genocide, which is as evident as the midday sun, we acknowledge it and hold them responsible. As for what they perceive as mere fantasies of the past, we shall leave that to them and those who accuse them until it is clarified in the future; however, their other offenses since 1948 are glaringly apparent to all. Their deliberate starvation of the Gazans was observed by everyone, whether Jewish or non-Jewish. Even if universally denied, it remains an undeniable truth. Thus, the basis of the self-inflicted crucifixion is not caused by anyone other than those who commit acts that are recognised and condemned by all who possess even a modicum of humanity, irrespective of their race. No matter who articulates the truth of their actions, whether misguided pro-jihadis like ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or others, or anyone else, it remains a fact if the evidence is presented. The sensible hold them accountable solely for their crimes while also combating antisemitism, for both their actions and antisemitism are deemed unlawful in the sight of the Creator. The pro-Zionists will not be allowed to hijack the narrative InShaAllah whenever it is necessary to respond to them.

And Allah knows best

[2] An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi

Shunning Sincere Advisers and Upright Reformers to Serve Corrupt Elites: An Evil Legacy of Ancient Nations

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا

Noah said: “My Lord, indeed, they have disobeyed me and (continued to) follow one whose (enticement and diversion by) wealth and children (from the truth) will not increase him (in the hereafter) except in loss.” [Nuh. 21] [NobleQuranShaikh Abu Iyaad]

And (continued to) follow one whose (enticement and diversion by) wealth and children (from the truth) will not increase him (in the hereafter) except in loss”.

Meaning: They disobeyed the Messenger who was  a sincere adviser – a guide to goodness, and (instead) followed the elite and the upper-class, whose wealth and children only increased them in loss- moral ruined and deprived of (righteous) gains, so how about the one who submits to them and obeys them?!” [1]

The Bad Behaviour of The Corrupt Elite

Allah said:

Indeed, We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people and he said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Certainly, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day!” The Mala [the notables, leaders and chiefs] amongst his people said, “Verily, we see you in plain error”. [Al-A’raf.  59-60]

Allah said:

And to ‘Ad (people, We sent) their brother Hud. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Will you not fear (Allah)?” The Mala [notables, leaders and chiefs] who disbelieved among his people said: “Verily, we see you in foolishness, and verily, we think you are one of the liars.” [Al-A’raaf. 65-66]

Allah said:

And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Indeed there has come to you a clear sign (the miracle of the coming out of a huge she-camel from the midst of a rock) from your Lord. This she-camel of Allah is a sign unto you; so you leave her to graze in Allah’s earth, and touch her not with harm, lest a painful torment should seize you. “And remember when He made you successors after ‘Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth.” The Mala [leaders, notables and chiefs] of those who were arrogant among his people said to those who were counted weak – to such of them as believed: “Know you that Salih (Saleh) is one sent from his Lord.” They said: “We indeed believe in that with which he has been sent.” Those who were arrogant said: “Verily, we disbelieve in that which you believe in.” [Al-A’raf. 73-78]

Allah said:

And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu’aib. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)].” Verily, a clear proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their things, and do not mischief on the earth after it has been set in order, that will be better for you, if you are believers. “And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allah those who believe in Him. and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, liars). “And if there is a party of you who believes in that with which I have been sent and a party who do not believe, so be patient until Allah judges between us, and He is the Best of judges.” The Mala [leaders, notables and chiefs] of those who were arrogant among his people said: “We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu’aib, and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you (all) shall return to our religion.” He said: “Even though we hate it! [Surah Al-A’raaf. Verses 86-88]

Allah said:

The Mala [leaders, notables and chiefs] of the people of Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “This (i.e. Prophet Musa) is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; he wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?” [Al-A’raf.  109]

Allah said:

The Mala (leaders, notables and chiefs) of Fir’aun’s (Pharaoh) people said: “Will you leave Musa (Moses) and his people to spread mischief in the land, and to abandon you and your gods?” He said: “We will kill their sons, and let live their women, and we have indeed irresistible power over them.”Al-A’raf. 127]

Allah said:

Then, after them (i.e. the people of Prophet Nooh), We created another generation. 32. And We sent to them a Messenger from among themselves (saying): “Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Will you not then be afraid (of Him i.e. of His Punishment because of worshipping others besides Him)?”

And the Mala [leaders, notables and chiefs] of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: “He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. “If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. “Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? “Far, very far is that which you are promised. “There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! “He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him.” He said: “O my Lord! Help me because they deny me.” (Allah) said: “In a little while, they are sure to be regretful.” So As-Saihah (torment – awful cry, etc.) overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead plants. So away with the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, disobedient to His Messengers, etc.). [Al-Muminoon. 31-41]

Allah said:

Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “O Mala (leaders, chiefs and notables)! I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me, so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake (bricks out of) clay, and set up for me a Sarhan (a lofty tower, or palace, etc.) in order that I may look at (or look for) the Ilah (God) of Musa (Moses); and verily, I think that he [Musa (Moses)] is one of the liars.” And he and his hosts were arrogant in the land, without right, and they thought that they would never return to Us. So We seized him and his hosts, and We threw them all into the sea (and drowned them). So behold (O Muhammad ) what was the end of the Zalimun [wrong-doers, polytheists and those who disbelieved in the Oneness of their Lord (Allah), or rejected the advice of His Messenger Musa (Moses)]. And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will not be helped. And We made a curse to follow them in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will be among Al-Maqbuhun (those who are prevented to receive Allah’s Mercy or any good, despised or destroyed, etc.). [Al-Qasas. 38-42]

Allah said:

And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad ) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: “This (Prophet Muhammad ) is a sorcerer, a liar. “Has he (Muhammad) made the aliha (gods) (all) into One Ilah (God – Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!” And the Mala (leaders, notable and chiefs) among them went about (saying): “Go on, and remain constant to your aliha (gods)! Verily, This is a thing designed (against you)! We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention!] [Saad. 4-7]

Allah said:

And We did not send a warner to a township, but those who were given the worldly wealth and luxuries among them said: “We believe not in the (Message) with which you have been sent.” And they say: “We are more in wealth and in children, and we are not going to be punished. [Sabah 34-35]

Some Scholarly Clarifications on Certain Rotten Apples Who Preceded the Blazing Bid’ee Daniel Haqiqatjou

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaaniy, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Allah guided mankind through Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and the manifest proofs given to him – guidance that surpassed the knowledge of those with great perception and could not be described by those who were well-versed in the art of description. Allah opened the hearts of the heedless, the ears of the deaf, and the eyes of the blind through this guidance. They were in a state of disharmony, harboured animosity toward one another, and adhered to perverse creeds before Allah united them under a single religion. Allah united their hearts, and as a result of this great blessing, they became true brothers in Islam. Following that, everything worshipped besides Allah, such as graves, trees, stones, and idols, ceased to exist, and all worship was established for Allah alone. [Footnote a]

People followed the true religion of Islamic monotheism and worshiped Allah alone, except for those whom Allah decreed would remain as polytheists, hypocrites, and adherents of the altered and distorted previous scriptures. The darkness of polytheism was dispelled, and the banner of Tawhid was raised in Arab and non-Arab lands. Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] died while Islam was established and in authority, superseding all other ways of life and creeds. The Messenger’s rightly guided khulafaa [Footnote b] continued to follow the Messenger’s path until the two powerful and great nations at the time, Rome and Persia, ended up in humiliation, degradation, and fear after they had been in security, and thus Caesar was restricted and besieged, and Chosroes was subdued and destroyed.

When the enemies of Islam realised they couldn’t destroy the religion, they planted agents within it – those who pretended to be Muslims -to sow confusion, trials, and tribulations, and spread polytheism by exaggerating the status of the pious and exalting their graves. As a result, the Ummah was exposed to temptations by Abdullah Bin Saba’s plots, who claimed that Ali Ibn Abi Talib deserved to be worshipped. The Saba’iyyah were Abdullah Bin Sabah’s followers, who were later known as the Rawafid, Ismaliyyah, Nusayriyah, and others among the Batiniyyah. They worshiped the graves and their inhabitants and erected places of worship and shrines over them. As a result of these practices, they revived the (corrupt) practices of the Jews, Christians, and idol worshippers (i.e. those among them who abandoned the correct path of their Prophets). This is how grave worshippers’ practices manifested in this Ummah, through practices initiated by the Rawafid. [Footnote c]

Furthermore, Greek philosophical texts that promoted the concepts of grave worship and idolatry were translated into the Arabic language and gained significant attention among individuals identifying with Islam, such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina Al-Hanafi, and Naseer At-Toosee, who advocated disbelief and polytheism, and those who sought to manipulate the teachings of Islam, akin to Paul’s manipulation of Christianity. The Greek Philosophers influenced and led them to advocate for grave worship through Greek Philosophy. The practices of these individuals were prevalent among the followers of rhetoric among the Hanafi Maturidiyyah and the Ash’ariyyah Kullabiyyah, as they immersed themselves in the works of the Philosophers. Consequently, they became proponents of grave worship and adhering to the Jahmiyyah creed. Among these individuals were Taftaazaanee Al-Hanafi, who was renowned as a philosopher of the Maturidiyyah and a follower of grave worship, and Jurjaanee Al-Hanafi, a proponent of superstitious beliefs. [Footnote d]

Another group of people arose within the Muslim community who posed an even greater threat and were more misguided than the aforementioned groups. These individuals adopted an outward appearance of piety, donning the attire of righteousness with tearful eyes, lengthy beards, towering turbans, and clutching large prayer beads. They deceitfully claimed to advocate for the teachings of the Prophet, while clandestinely engaging in despicable practices inherited from false religions. They attempted to mix blatant lies with the Qur’an and the authentic narrations to corrupt the clear proofs found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. These deviant heretics are known as the Hululiyyah, Ittihadiyyah Grave Worshipers, such as the likes of Al-Hallaj (309AH), Ibn Al-Farid (632AH) Ibn Arabi (638AH), Ibn Sab’in (669AH), etc [Footnote e] [1]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated that the ultimate outcome for those who engage in theological rhetoric is a state of uncertainty and perplexity, while the ultimate outcome for the followers of the Sufi paths is characterised by erratic and irrational behavior along with false claims. The innovators in religious matters among the proponents of theological rhetoric have something of a resemblance to the Jews and those who innovate acts of worship in religious matters have something of a resemblance to the Christians [i.e. those Jews and Christians who deviated after the departure of their Prophets]. That is because these ones [proponents of theological rhetoric] deny the truth and are led to doubt, and those ones [those who innovate acts of worship] believe in falsehood and are led to irrational behavior. These ones are like the darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed by a great wave topped by another great wave, topped by dark clouds, darkness, one above another; and those ones are like a mirage in a desert, the thirsty one thinking it’s water until he comes up to it and discovers it’s nothing. [2]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated that the people in their pursuit of knowledge and religion have two innovated paths and a path legislated in the Shari’ah. The path of Islamic legislation involves examining the teachings of the Messenger, utilising them as evidence, and implementing the necessary actions. Therefore, it is imperative to possess knowledge based on the teachings of the Messenger and to act upon them, and merely possessing one of these two is insufficient. As for the two innovated paths, one of them is the path of people who engage in innovated theological discourse and this path is fraught with falsehood. Many of its adherents neglect the obligations prescribed by Allah and His Messenger, leading them to remain in a state of corruption in knowledge and action. Consequently, these individuals deviate towards false Judaism. The second path is taken by people who adopt methods to enhance their spiritual well-being, namely the followers of the Sufi paths, who introduce new forms of worship. These individuals tend to deviate towards false Christianity as they claim that by purifying one’s soul according to their prescribed methods, one will effortlessly acquire extensive knowledge of religious sciences without learning. The worship practices of many of these people are innovated, rather, they contradict the teachings of the Messenger. As a result, they continue to engage in corrupt actions and corruption due to their lack of understanding of the Messenger’s teachings because they do not know what the Messenger conveyed. Neither Allah’s Messenger nor his companions followed the path of those who introduced innovations in religion, such as the proponents of theological rhetoric, nor the path of the proponents of innovated worship and Sufiyyah. Instead, he adhered to what Allah had sent him with, which is based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. [3]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated: Ibn Al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, Abu Al-Wafaa Ibn Aqeel Al-Faqee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, our Shaikh Ab Al-Fadl Al-Hamdani, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, ”The individuals who innovate in Islam and the fabricators of Hadeeth are worse than the heretics, as the latter seeks to corrupt Islam externally, while the former aims to corrupt it internally. They (the former) are similar to the people of a country who attempt to corrupt it from within, while the heretics are similar to those who lay siege from outside, so, the ones from within open the fortress. Thus, they are more harmful to Islam than those who do not openly associate themselves with it”. [4]

Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “There is none more harmful to the people of Islam than the Jahmiyyah. They do not desire other than to nullify the Qur’an and the (authentic) narrations of the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him]”. [5]

Al-Hafidh Abdul Ghaniyy Al-Maqdisi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “(You) should know – may Allah have mercy upon you – that Islam and its people are undermined by three groups and the group that rejects the (authentic) narrations regarding the Attributes of Allah and belie its (reliable) narrators are more harmful to Islam and its people than the disbelievers”. [6]

Ibn Aqeel [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “There is none more harmful to the Shariah than the innovators among the proponents of theological rhetoric and the ignorant Sufis”. [7]

Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “Exhortations are mostly employed when addressing the general public, particularly the common people, thus, the ignorant storytellers managed to find a way to achieve their objectives. Their innovations in the religion continued to escalate until it resulted in significant harm and they initiated evil through their deeds, statements, and goals”. [8]

Yunus Ibn Abdil A’laa, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: I heard Ash-Shafi’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, saying, “It would be better for a man to be tempted by everything Allah has forbidden, except for the sin of associating partners with Allah in worship, rather than involving himself in theological rhetoric. This is because I have encountered certain matters from the proponents of theological rhetoric that I never expected to encounter”. [9]

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated, “May Allah curse Amr Ibn Ubaid because indeed he initiated this innovation from theological rhetoric. If theological rhetoric was knowledge, the companions of the Messenger and the Taabi’een would have spoken about it just as they spoke about rulings and laws of the religion, however, it is falsehood and leads to falsehood”. [10.a]

An Example of a Misguided One Called Al-Jahiz Who Was Known to Read a Lot and Wrote Many Books, But Well-known For Jesting and Twiddling With The Religion

Ibn Qutaybah, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated about Al-Jaahiz: “You find him arguing at times for the Uthmaniyyah over the Rafidah, and sometimes for the Zaydiyyah over the Uthmaniyyah and Ahlus Sunnah, and sometimes he gave precedence to Ali,  may Allah be pleased with him, and sometimes he placed him behind others. He wrote a book in which he mentioned the arguments of the Christians against the Muslims, and when he embarked upon refuting them, he relinquished some of the proof as if he wanted to alert them to what they did not know and to cast doubt on the weak (people) among the Muslims, and you find him intending in his books to mock and twiddle. He mocked at hadith in a way that was not hidden from the scholars, while he was one of the Ummah’s greatest liars, fabricators of hadith, and the most supportive of falsehood”. [10.b]

Imam Adh-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said about Al-Jaahiz: “He was an insolent person, one who was very negligent in his practice of the religion and held strange views”. [10.c] “It was apparent from his traits that he used to fabricate”. [10.d] “He was from the figureheads of Bidah”. [10.e] Al-Baghdaadee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Al-Jaahiz used to transmit a lot of innovated beliefs in his books”. [10.f] “Neither reliable nor trustworthy, rather, he was one of the figureheads of Bidah”. [10.g]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan,  may Allah preserve him, stated:

It is not permissible to transmit false and fabricated narrations and then attribute them to the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him]. That is because many amongst the people of misguidance and (vain) desires fabricate narrations, utilise them as proof, and declare them authentic when (such narrations) agree with their desires. But when the authentic narrations oppose their desires, either they belie or distort and explain them (in a manner other than what is intended by) their correct meanings. This is the state of affairs of the people of misguidance. They search for fabricated and false narrations, present them to the people, and utilise them as proof if it agrees with their desires. Also one of the characteristics of a hypocrite is that he lies when he speaks, therefore, do not speak to the people unless you are truthful (in what you say), and do not speak too much regarding the narrations in that which is no benefit out of fear of falling into lies. The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “It is enough (to be considered as) lying that a man speaks about everything that he hears”. [Saheeh Sunan Abee Dawud. Number 4992] [11]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Ahlul Ahwaa, such as the Mutazilah, the khawarij, the Rawafid, and others, are the ones responsible for causing the wars and discord. Fitnah (turmoil) only arises from them and is a result of them. Who was responsible for the assassination of Uthman? Who was behind the murder of Ali? Who were the ones that ignited turmoil among the Muslims thereafter? It was none other than these individuals driven by their desires. Who misled Al-Mamoon and those rulers who came after him to persecute Ahlus Sunnah, and ultimately led to the beating and imprisonment of their Imam – Ahmad Bin Hanbal? It was none else other than Ahlul Ahwaa! Who initiated the imprisonment of Shaikh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah until he died in prison? It was none else other than Ahlul Ahwaa! It is our responsibility to exercise caution towards these people, as their fitnah ultimately results in the fragmentation of Muslim unity, rebellion against Muslim leaders, and splitting within the Muslim community, leading to the emergence of divergent groups and parties. This stands in stark contrast to the concept of a united Ummah. [12]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhali, may Allah have mercy upon him said:

After speaking about those who make Takfeer based on falsehood [f] amongst the different factions of the Jahmiyah [g], the Khawarij [h], the Rawafid and the Qadariyyah [i], and the reason behind such Takfeer, Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

“On the opposite side of these people who make Takfeer based on falsehood, there are people who do not know the creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jama’ah as it should be, or they know some and are ignorant of some. And perhaps what they know of it, they do not clarify for the people, rather they conceal it. Neither do they forbid Bidah nor censure ahlul bidah and punish them; rather, perhaps they would censure speech related to the Sunnah and the fundamental principles of the religion – completely – and would not differentiate – in that – between what Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah say [i.e. adherents to the sound Prophetic Sunnah and sound unity] and what ahlul bidah wal furqah say [i.e. the proponents of innovation in religious affairs who split (disunite due to their opposition to the correct path)], or they would affirm all their differing Madhabs [creeds, paths] in a manner similar to how the scholars would affirm the different opinions related to affairs of Ijtihaad about which difference of opinion is justified. [j] This path has overwhelmed many of the Murji’ah, some of the jurists, those pursuing the path of asceticism and the philosophers, just as it has overwhelmed – first and foremost – many amongst the people of (vain) desires and rhetoric. Both these paths are perverted, outside the Book [i.e. The Qur’an] and the Sunnah”. [End of Quote]

After quoting the above statement of Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Al-Allamah Rabee said, “I say, may Allah have mercy on Ibn Tamiyyah. Indeed, he clarified the situation of the people of his era and those before them, then what if he saw the situation of many amongst the Al-Jamaa’aat Al-Hizbiyyah Wal-Bid’iyyah [The Groups of Illegal Partisanship and Bidah] [k] who ascribe themselves to Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah and take cover behind them – in particular – to promote their falsehoods! What if he saw them whilst they have definitely gathered between the Madhabs [creeds, paths] of the two groups- the khawaarij and those who follow their way in pronouncing Takfeer in the subject matter of Al-Haakimiyyah [l] and the way of the Mur’jiah [m] in the manner they approach the affair of people who are upon the big and numerous innovations in religious affairs, and equating innovation in religion to those affairs of the religion in which Ijtihaad is justified, whose people are rewarded alongside a refutation against their mistakes! In the view of these people, the leaders of Misguidance and Bidah are like the Imams of Guidance and Sunnah. [n] [13]

Finally, Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said, “Rather what is obligatory is to clarify that which Allah sent His Messengers with and (revealed) in His Books, propagate that which the Messengers brought from Allah and fulfil the covenant which Allah took from the scholars. Therefore, it is obligatory to know that which the Messengers brought, believe in it, propagate it, call to it, striving with it, weigh up all that which the people embark upon – [statements, actions, religious fundamentals and subsidiary issues pertaining to the apparent actions of the Limbs and affairs related to actions of the heart]- under the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, neither following desires [through] customs, a school of law, a religious order, a leader or a predecessor, nor following conjecture through a weak hadeeth or corrupt analogy, regardless whether it is an analogy that offers some degree of certainty or not, or blindly following someone who it is not obligated to follow his statement and action because Allah -in His Book – has censured those who follow conjecture and that which their souls desire, whilst they abandon following that which came to them from their Lord of Guidance”. [14]

Allah, The Most High, said:

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَتْلُونَهُۥ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ

Those to whom We have given the Book (the Torah and the Qurʾān), recite it as it truly should be recited (through sincere, honest implementation of its teachings, without distorting them). They are the ones who (truly) believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it, then they are the losers.

Imām al-Ṭabarī brings the following reports: Ibn ʿAbbās and ʿIkrimah: “They follow it as it truly should be followed.” Ibn ʿAbbās: “They accept as lawful what it makes lawful, accept as unlawful what it makes unlawful, and do not distort its words from their proper places.” Mujāhid: “They act upon it as it truly should be acted upon.” Ibn Masʿūd and Qatādah: “They treat as lawful what it makes lawful and treat as unlawful what it makes unlawful. They recite it as it was revealed by Allāh. They do not distort its words from their proper places and they do not explain anything of it with other than its (true) explanation.” Al-Ḥasan: “They act upon its decisive verses (muḥkam), believe in its ambiguous verses (mutashābih), and entrust the knowledge of what is difficult for them to its knower”. Amr bin Al-Aas [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that he heard Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] saying, ‘’If a Mujtahid gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct, he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, even then he will get a reward.’’ [Bukhari Number 7352]

Few Issues From This Hadeeth

[a] A Mujtahid (a scholar who strives to reach a judgement) is not deprived of reward. [b] The judgement of a non-Mujtahid is different from that of a Mujtahid. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said that the one who speaks about the religion without knowledge and out of ignorance [is guilty of] lying and sinning. The one who intentionally speaks to oppose the truth is threatened with entry into the fire of hell, as opposed to the affair of the one who speaks based on permissible Ijtihad, for indeed he strives, fears Allah as much as he is able, desires to seek knowledge as much as he was able, speaks for the sake of Allah, knows the stronger proof and speaks based on that. This person is given two rewards if he is correct; but if he is mistaken, he receives one reward. [c] A Mujtahid can be correct or mistaken. [Arba’oona Hadeethaa Fee Usoolil Fiqh. pages 32-33]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee said, “We do not say that there are people of ijtihaad amongst ahlul bidah because they are followers of desires, and Allaah and His Messenger have testified to this. The misguided innovator stirs up discord and errs, and then says to you, ‘This is ijtihaad’. When Hikmatiyaar and the misguided parties [in Afghanistan] murdered Shaikh Jameel Ur-Rahmaan, they said: ‘This is ijtihaad.’ They do not fall into an affair of misguidance or a calamity except that they say, “This is ijtihaad.” This is [tantamount] to diluting Islaam, falsehood, misguidance, bidah and confounding truth with falsehood, when the mistakes of the [true and qualified scholars of ijtihaad]- for which they are rewarded- are placed at the same level with innovation, about which the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] declared to be a path that will lead to the hell fire”. Allah is Al-Afuww

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy

Allah, The Most High, said:

إِن تُبْدُوا۟ خَيْرًا أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ أَوْ تَعْفُوا۟ عَن سُوٓءٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا قَدِيرًا

Whether you (mankind) disclose (by good words of thanks) a good deed (done to you in the form of a favour by someone), or conceal it, or pardon an evil, verily, Allah is [عَفُوًّا قَدِيرًا – Ever Oft-Pardoning, All-Powerful.] [An-Nisa 149]

Al-Afuww: The One Who pardons again and again. The One Who continues to pardon the sins of His servants, and leaves off punishment for them. The One Who pardons His slaves so that they do not suffer the consequences of their sins if they repent. [1]

Imam Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Ā’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said to Allāh’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: If I happen to know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say therein (or during it)?” He said: Say:

O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

“Al-ʿAfuw” is the One who overlooks and forgives the sins of His servants. He, Glorified be He and The Most High, is Ever Oft-Pardoning, All-Powerful, meaning: He pardons while having the power to punish. He is not like a human being who when unable to do something, he says, “I pardon you”, whereas Allah forgives despite having full power, and this is the perfection of pardon. So on Laylat al-Qadr you say the best supplication you can make which is:

اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني

“O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.” [2]

The Virtue of Repentance

Allah, The Most High, said:

And those who, when they have committed an immoral act or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and none can forgive sins but Allah – and do not persist in what they have done, while they know. [Aal Imran. 135]

“And those who, when they have committed an immoral act or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins”.

Meaning: When they commit sins, they return to Allah in repentance and seek His protection from the evil consequences that might reach them in future due to their evil deeds, and seek forgiveness for the evil deeds which they have already committed.

“And do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know”.

Meaning: They repent from their sin, turn to Allah in repentance soon afterwards, refrain from persisting upon disobedience and they know that Allah forgives whoever repents.

For such, the reward is Forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders). [3] And they know that persisting upon sin is harmful and abandoning it is a foremost obligation. [4]

When they commit evil deeds -be it major or minor- they hasten towards repentance, seek forgiveness, remember their Lord, the promise given to the disobedient ones and the promise given to those who fear Him, thus, they ask for forgiveness, ask Allah to hide their faults, stop committing the sins and are regretful. And due to this, Allah said about them:

أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ جَزَآؤُهُم مَّغۡفِرَةٌ۬ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡ وَجَنَّـٰتٌ۬ تَجۡرِى مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡہَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيہَا‌ۚ وَنِعۡمَ أَجۡرُ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلِينَ

For such, the reward is Forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders)]. [5]

Allah, The Most High, said:

O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow [Paradise] the Day that Allah will not disgrace the Prophet [Muhammad] and those who believe with him, their Light will run forward before them and with [their Records Books of deeds] in their right hands they will say: ‘’Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us [and do not put it off till we cross over the Siraat (a slippery bridge over the Hell) safely] and grant us forgiveness. Verily, You are Able to do all things.’’

“O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance”.

Umar Ibn Khattab said:

Sincere repentance is that a person repents from sins and reminds himself not to return to sinning. Al-Hasan Al-Basri was asked about sincere repentance, he said: “It is regret (felt in) the heart, asking for forgiveness with the tongue, the limbs refrain from sinning and being cautious of returning to sin”. Ibn Mas’ud said: ‘’Sincere repentance expiates every evil deed”, then he recited the Ayah ah [i.e. Ayah 8 Surah At-Tahreem] [6]

Shaqeeq Al-Balkhi said:

“The signs of repentance are: Weeping over what has preceded, fear of falling into sin (again), keeping away from evil companions and accompanying the good people”. [7]

A profound realisation of those granted Tawfeeq

The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

When those granted Tawfeeq realise the (inferior) status of the worldly life and its short period of residence, they kill their (vain) desires. When they become heedful of (that state of) heedlessness, they make streneous effort to recapture that which the enemy (Iblees) snatched from them during the times of idlenesWhen the path towards (obedience) is prolonged, they understand and remember the goal (behind their efforts), thus, that which seems to be far away (i.e. the Afterlife) becomes close. Every time their lifespan is prolonged, they are reminded of the statement of Allah:

هَـٰذَا يَوۡمُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى ڪُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ

This is your Day which you were promised.

An Excerpt from Al-Fawaa’id. Page 77

My intention is not to resemble them!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Brief Commentary – By Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin – On The Hadith: “Whoever resembles a people is from them”.

The Shaikh: Among the (extracted) benefits from the narration of Ibn Umar is encouragement to resemble the righteous based on the statement of the Messenger: “Whoever resembles a people is from them.” This benefit extends to encouragement to follow the pious predecessors in worship, belief, methodology, and all aspects of life, so that an individual may be from what?

The student: From them.

The Shaikh: Is a person (considered to) resemble them in actions that are not performed as acts of worship, such as the manner of walking or dressing, or if it is stated that resembling them in attire means that an individual may wear what is customary worn by the people of his country, provided it is not prohibited? The answer is the second (statement), and due to this, we say: following custom in the manner of dress is Sunnah, provided it (such type of dress) is not prohibited.

One of the benefits of this hadith is the caution against resembling disbelievers or a warning against resembling the disbelievers due to the statement of the Messenger: “He is from them.”

Is this (resemblance deemed) hated or forbidden? What is correct is that it is forbidden, and that it is forbidden for a person to resemble the disbelievers. One of the benefits of this hadith is that whenever resemblance takes place, the ruling is established (forbidden), regardless of whether it (the act) is intentional or unintentional.

If someone were to say that he wears the clothing of the disbelievers (i.e. what is not allowed Islamically) but he does not intend to resemble them. We would say: but resemblance has indeed occurred. The place of one’s intention is the heart; we disapprove of him based on what he has manifested of resemblance. As for his relationship with his Creator, this is not for us to judge. This is because at present when some person is prohibited, he says: “I dont intend resemblance”. For instance, you find him styling his hair in a partucular manner that is known to be from (the unlawful) adornment of the disbelievers, so if you tell him about it and he said: “I don’t intend resemblance”, what do we say to him? We say: Resemblance has occurred; resemblance has taken place while intention remains a hidden matter that cannot be known (i.e. it’s hidden in your heart). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stated, “Whoever resembles a people is from them,” thus linking the ruling to the act of resembling.

Also, caution must be exercised with regards to following Ahlul Bidah because if you follow them, then indeed you’ve resembled them and are from them. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Every innovation (in religion) is a misguidance, and every misguidance leads to the Fire”. (1)

The Shaikh, may Allah have mercy upon him, also said: (This) refers to what makes one resemble them by engaging in specific practices associated with them. Resemblance can occur in beliefs, acts of worship, clothing, and customs. This hadith  is general, and when it is the case that it is applied generally, the statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, “He is one of them” can be interpreted in light of other evidences. For instance, one who resembles a people in their beliefs is from them, as he believes what they believe (right or wrong)- whether related to acts of worship, belief in Allah’s Lorship, or His Names and Attributes. The one who resembles them in worship is from them, the one who resembles them in customs is from them, especially if the Shariah specifically prohibits such (action or thing). If an individual adopts the clothing of the disbelievers, resembling them in their clothing, wearing similar to what the disbelievers wear, we say: “He is from them”. The important thing to note is the resemblance and that is to engage in what is specifically associated with those being imitated. As for shared practices (i.e. which the Shariah has not forbidden), it does not constitute resemblance. [2]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allāh have mercy upon him, said: “The resemblance and similarity in outward matters lead to a corresponding resemblance and similarity in concealed matters (in the heart), in a subtle and gradual manner. We have observed that Jews and Christians who live with Muslims tend to exhibit less disbelief than those who do not. On the other hand, Muslims who frequently engage with Jews and Christians tend to demonstrate a lower level of faith compared to others.” [3]

Shaikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “External  resemblance can lead to a form of affection and love, as well as internal allegiance; just as love that exists internally can lead to external similarity. This is a matter witnessed both through sensory perception and experience.” [4]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon  him, said, “The resemblance in outward appearance urges conformity in internal mannerisms, as demonstrated by religious texts, (sound) reasoning, and sensory perception. Therefore, the Shariah prohibits resemblance to  disbelievers, animals, devils, women (i.e. men who imitate women), and Bedouins (i.e. not to follow the un-Islamic manners and traits).” [5]

Imam Al-Albani, may Allāh have mercy upon him, stated: “One of the aspects of Islam’s perfection is its establishment of laws and divine regulations to help Muslims maintain their Islamic identity and avoid adopting the (un-Islamic) identities of other groups”. [6]
