This video is being updated and will be available at 3pm UK time on 3rd May 2002

Umar stayed at his house for three days then he said to him: ‘Nothing had actually occurred between me and my father from what I mentioned to you but it was that the I heard that the Prophet ﷺ said that a man would appear upon us who will be from the people of paradise so I wanted to accompany you and see what you were doing of righteous deeds.

Yet I didn’t see you perform many righteous deeds? So the man responded to Umar and said to him that ‘I do not do more deeds than what you have already seen me doing except

Is it Permissible for a Resident to Combine Maghrib and Isha, after He has Returned from a Journey? Shaykh Uthaymeen

Is it permissible to delay praying maghrib until isha due to him being tired, for an individual who returned from travelling directly after Maghrib prayer i.e. the time of Maghrib has not exited (but the prayer has been established in the masaajid in congregation)?

Shaykh ‘Uthaymeen:

Yes, that is permissible, because not combining in this situation would cause difficulty for him. For indeed ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them both) said,

‘The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) combined between Dhuhr and ‘Asr , and Maghrib and ‘Isha whilst he was in Madeenah, and there was no fear and no rain. They said to him (‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas), why is that? He said, He did not want hardship for his ummah’

Shaykh ‘Uthaymeen: meaning that he did not want the ummah to be afflicted with difficulties by not combining (when there is a need).

Contemplation and Understanding of The Qurān – Shaykh b. Bāz

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykh b. Bāz (rahimahullāh) said,

In general, memorisation is from knowledge and fahm is greater and the head and foundation of knowledge is the Qurān.

Therefore whoever desires knowledge then let him contemplate on the Qurān and give importance to the Qurān, in terms of memorisation, contemplation, revision and action upon it.

And the knowledge of the companions, most of it was from the Qurān, some of them did not memorise except a few ahādīth; however Allāh benefited them by their knowledge and their concern with the Book of Allāh (Azza wa Jal).

Shaykh ibn Bāz’s Sharh Kitāb at-Tawhīd min Sahīh al-Bukhāri pg 410-411

A Great Scholar, Noble Companion, Abu Mundhir Ubayy ibn Kab (radia Allaahu anhu) Left Worship to Benefit the People

عن أبي العالية قال : كان أبي صاحب عبادة ، فلما احتاج الناس إليه ، ترك العبادة وجلس للقوم

On Authority of Abī Ā’liyah

Ubayy ibn K’ab used to be a person of  worship, and when the people were in need of him (due to his knowledge and high position amongst the companions) he would leave worship and sit with the people. (to answer their questions).

 [Siyar ‘Alām An-Nubalā Volume 3, page 399].

    • The noble Companion of the Messenger of Allah – from the Ansār and those who partook in the Battle of Badr.
    • He was from the few who had memorised the whole Qur’ān in the lifetime of the Prophet – sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam -whom he ordered the people to take the Qur’ān from.
    • The Messenger of Allah said to him, “O Abā Mundhir (Ubay)! Do you know which verse from the Book of Allah – (you have memorised) with you – is the greatest?” He (Ubay) said, “Allah and His Messenger know best”. The Prophet (repeated and) said, “O Aba Mundhir (Ubay)! Do you know which verse from the Book of Allah – (you have memorised) with you – is the greatest?”. He (Ubay) said, “Allāhu laa ilāha illa huwal-Hayyul-Qayyoom … (āyatul-Kursi).He (Ubay) said, “He (The Prophet) then struck me on my chest and said “By Allah, may you be blessed in your knowledge O Aba Mundhir.” [Muslim, hadith no.810
    • On another occasion, the Prophet said to Ubay ibn K’ab, “Indeed Allah has commanded me to read the Qur’aan to you. He (Ubay) said, “Did He mention me by name?” He (the Prophet) said, “yes”. He (Ubay) said, “I was mentioned by the Lord of the Worlds?!” He said, “yes”. So Ubay began to shed tears. [Al-Bukhaari, hadith no.4961 and Muslim, hadith no. 799].

Those Who Claim to Love the Companions but Defend those who Speak ill of them – Shaykh Zaid Al-Madkhalee

Shaykh Zaid Al-Madkhali’s on the one who claims love for the companions – May Allah be pleased with them – but then at the same time defends those who speak badly of them.

Question: What is your advice to one who claims love for the companions – May Allah be pleased with them – and at the same time defends those who speak ill of them?

Do you Love Allah and His Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) – Ibn Masood

On the Authority of Abdullah ibn Masood who said:

“Whoever wants to know if he loves Allah and His Messenger then let him look! If he loves the Quraan (reciting it, acting upon it), then indeed he loves Allah and His Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam).”
