They said, “We have killed the Messiah, son of Maryam, Allah’s Messenger” Part 1

In The Name of Allah, The Most` Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

And [for] their saying, “Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but the resemblance of ‘Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]: But Allah raised him [‘Iesa (Jesus)] up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he is in the heavens). And Allah is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise. [An-Nisa 157-158]

Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah].

Imam Ibn kathir, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: (Meaning):

We (i.e. the plotters) have killed this one (i.e. Jesus) who claimed this position (or rank) for himself”. This statement was made from the angle of false accusation and mockery, similar to the statement of the polytheists: [يا أيها الذي نزل عليه الذكر إنك لمجنون – O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed, indeed you are insane]. [Al-Hijr 6]

“The Rabis of the Jews (at that time) when Allah sent Isa (Jesus), the son of Mary, with clear signs and guidance, they envied him for the prophethood and the remarkable miracles bestowed upon him. These miracles included healing the blind and the leprous, as well as raising the dead by Allah’s permission. He fashioned a bird from clay, breathed into it, and it became a living bird that flew by Allah’s will, among other miracles that Allah honored him with and manifested through his hands. Despite this, they belied and opposed him, and endeavored to harm him in every possible way unil the Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, could not reside among them in the town; instead, he and his mother, peace be upon them, frequently traveled. Yet, this was not enough to satisfy them, as they sought the king of Damascus at that time—a man who was a polytheist and a worshiper of celestial bodies, known as the Greeks. They reported to him that there was a man in Jerusalem who was misleading the people and corrupting the king’s subjects. This infuriated the king, prompting him to write to his deputy in Jerusalem, instructing him to take precautions against the mentioned individual, to crucify him, and to place a crown of thorns upon his head, in order to stop harm on the people”…until the point at which Imam Ibn Kathir stated:

“Indeed, Allah has clarified and elucidated the matter in the magnificent Quran, which He revealed to His noble Messenger, supported by miracles, clear signs, and evident proofs. He, (Allah) – [The Most truthful in speech, the Lord of the entire existence, the one who knows the secrets and innermost thoughts, knows the hidden in the heavens and the earth, knows all that has occurred, all that is to occur (and occurring), and all that did not occur and how it would have occurred if it was to occur] – stated: [وما قتلوه وما صلبوه ولكن شبه لهم – And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but the resemblance of ‘Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man)]. They saw someone resembling him and mistakenly believed it to be him, thus Allah stated: [وإن الذين اختلفوا فيه لفي شك منه ما لهم به من علم إلا اتباع الظن – and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture]. [وما قتلوه يقينا بل رفعه الله إليه – For surely; they killed him not [i.e. ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]: But Allah raised him [‘Iesa (Jesus)] up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he is in the heavens)]. Meaning, those among the Jews who claimed to have killed him and those among the ignorant Christians who believed the same; all of them are in doubt, confusion, misguidance, and error. Thus, Allah stated: [وما قتلوه يقينا – For surely; they killed him not] – Meaning, they were not certain it was him, but rather were in doubt and delusion. [1]

[وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَكِنْ شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ – And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but the resemblance of ‘Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man)].

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

This statement was directed towards the Jews (i.e. those among them who plotted against Isa), and dispraised them for their actions. The Christians were not mentioned because it was those (particular) Jews who were responsible for the crucifixion of the one who was likened to Isa. None of the Christians were present with them; in fact, the disciples were fearful and absent, thus no one among them witnessed the crucifixion. Instead, it was those Jews who informed the people that they have crucified the Messiah. The accounts of His crucifixion that reached both Christians and others originated from those Jews, who were agents of oppression. They were not numerous enough to prevent their agreement on lying”. [2]

Imam Ibn Hazm, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The Christians themselves acknowledged that they did not endevour to get hold of his body during the day due to fear of the public; instead, they took him at night after the people had dispersed following the Passover. Furthermore, it is stated that he remained on the cross for only six hours during the day and was taken down shortly thereafter. The crucifixion allegedly occurred in a location distant from the city, in a garden owned by a potter, which is not a recognised site for crucifixions. After all of this, it would be that they established a context to say that his companions would have run off with his body (in secret) and that Maryam Magdalene, a woman among the common people, did not approach the site of the crucifixion but stood at a distance, observing everything as described in their Gospel. This undermines the notion that the crucifixion was reported (and witnessed) by all people (or numerous people) because it appears to be a concealed and colluded event.

At that time, according to the Gospel, the disciples were fearful for their own safety, fled and remained hidden. And that Peter entered the house of Caiaphas the priest during daylight, so he said to him, “Are you one of Jesus’s associates?” However, he denied this and fled the premises; then how about the claim that it was reported by everyone! This is the meaning of the verse [ولكن شبه لهم – but the resemblance of ‘Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man)], meaning, those wicked individuals who orchestrated this falsehood conspired together and misled their followers into believing that they had crucified and killed him, despite knowing that this was a lie.

It was never the case that everyone reported the [alleged killing of Isa, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], but even if it were true that they did, then how could it not be possible regarding the fact that every miracle does alter natural phenomena and changes the way senses normally perceive things? If it were indeed the case that everyone saw (or reported) it, then Allah’s statement regarding this event is that He likened another person to Isa, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and blocked their perceptions in the manner they perceived it, (so they thought that it was him who was crucified whereas, it was someone else). This event would be comparable to the migration of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, at night, during which a hundred men from Quraysh, sought after him, yet Allah concealed their vision from him, preventing them from seeing him. However, as for what is not established based on Allah’s statement that He made something appear in a way that is not what is seen or perceived in reality, it would not be permissible to regard it as such, as it leads to an impossibility. Thus, the changing of nature and natural things from what they are in reality cannot be considered possible unless there is definitive proof from Allah, which must be accepted. [Footnote a] But the reality of something can be misperceived by one or two individuals, as well as a result of insanity or foolishness. However, this cannot happen to an entire group (i.e. the populace).

And regarding Allah’s statement: [وما قتلوه وما صلبوه ولكن شبه لهم – And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but the resemblance of ‘Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man)]. This is regarding those who say that Isa, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was crucified due to blindly following their predecessors among the Christians and Jews. These people were (deceived) based on doubtful (ambiguous) report, as they entered into something false that is made to resemble the truth. The evil elders at that time entered them into this falsehood that was made to resemble the truth. The claimants (those Jews who disbelieved in Isa) told them that they killed and crucified him, while they knew that it was not the case; instead, they secretly conspired to kill and crucify him, preventing public attendance, and subsequently claimed to have killed and buried him to mislead the general populace, who were led to believe the false narrative that was made to resemble the truth. [3]

————————————————————–

Footnote a: The miracles of the Prophets and righteous people who adhered/ adhere to the divine revelation without deviation in creed or worship must not be mistaken for the deceptions of magicians, the people of innovation in religious matters and the devils. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The Khawariq [Phenomena attributed to something outside the norm] by way of which the devils misguide the children of Adam – such as when the devils take the image of a person who is absent or has passed away and what is similar to this – has misguided many of those who ascribe themselves to the Muslims or to the people of the Scripture. They establish this on two affairs: Firstly, that whoever from whom these khawaariq occurs is a Wali, and according to the term of the Christians he is a Qadees A’dheem – a great saint! Secondly, that the one from whom these khawaariq occurs is therefore infallible, everything he narrates is truth and everything he commands is justice”.

However, it can definitely be the case that neither did a phenomena outside the norm – whether unrelated or related to sound knowledge and piety – occur from such a person nor a phenomena outside the normal related to deeds of the devils; rather the person merely carried out the tricks of the liars and wicked sinners. The tricks of the liars and wicked sinners are numerous indeed, so one thinks that they are amazing events outside the norm, however neither is that the case nor is it something similar to the tricks of the monks. Some people have written books regarding the tricks of the monks, such as the trick reported about one of them changing water into oil- that when the oil is in the interior of the lighthouse, the water gradually reduces and thus the oil floats [or pops up] on the water, so those who are present think that the water has changed into oil. The likes of this affair are numerous from the tricks of those Christians, because all that those Christians possess – those who altered the religion of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] – of activities that are attributed to something out of the norm are either from the devils or they are tricks, and there’s nothing in them related to the miracles of the righteous people.

Likewise, the deviated people – those who seek to alter the religion of Muhammad – adopt a religion that is not legislated by Allah and His Messenger, then they make it a path of worship and give it precedence over the path that is legislated by Allah and His Messenger. For example, they give precedence to listening to sounds from the tambourines and the shrill flutes over listening to the book of Allah, so one of them goes into a state of ecstasy and a satanic trance through which he becomes muddled up with shaytan until he speaks in a language he does not know. Then when he returns to his senses – just as when a jinn speaks through the tongue of the one who is possessed and after informing the people of that which is in his heart and soul, which is from the shaytan, and the shaytan leaves him -, he cannot repeat what he said at first.

The heretics alter the religion of the Messengers – either the religion of the Messiah or seek to alter the religion of Muhammad, and amongst the likes of such people are the proponents of hearsay, misguidance, the disbelievers, the polytheists, apostates and other than them, such as the likes of Musaylimah the liar, Al-Aswad Al-Unzee, Al-Haarith Ad-Dimashqee, Baabaa Roomee and other than them amongst those who engaged in activities that are considered to be outside the norm [i.e. so called miracles] but [in reality] are related to the deeds of the devils.

As for the tricksters, they are numerous and they are not Awliyaa of Allah. Their so called amazing activities that are outside the norm- if not related to the satanic deeds of the soothsayers and the magicians – a just tricks. They deliberately lie and deceive unlike those connected to the devils, because amongst them is he who deceives, so one thinks that what he does is from the miracles of the righteous people, just as amongst them is one who knows that what he does is from the devils, but he does so in order to achieve his goals.

The intent behind this discussion is that many of the activities that are considered to be outside of the norm [i.e. so called miracles] are either satanic deeds or tricks, so one thinks that they are the true miracles of the righteous people, for indeed that which whose cause is based on Shirk and wicked deeds can only be from the devils, such as when a person associates partners with Allah by invoking the stars, or invokes a person- whether such a person is dead or absent, or he makes an oath through unknown words and statements whose meanings are not known, or he knows that they are names of devils, or seeks aid through lewd conduct and oppression, then such deeds – considered to be outside of the norm that emanates from this – are from the devils.

The righteous people have miracles such as the miracles of the pious people of this Ummah [may Allah have mercy upon them], the miracles of the disciples of the Messiah [may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Messiah, and may Allah have mercy upon the disciples] and other than them amongst those who were upon the correct and unaltered religion of the Messiah. However, the occurrence of miracles at the hands of the righteous people does not necessitate that they are infallible like the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them]; rather it maybe that a righteous man- a Wali – has miracles, but despite this he mixes up by error and makes a mistake in that which he thinks or what he is made to hear or see, or what he sees, or what he understands from the revealed Scripture. And because of this, the statements of those other than the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them] can either be accepted or rejected [i.e. based on evidence], but as for the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them], it is obligated on a person to affirm truthfully everything they have related regarding the affairs of the unseen and obey them in everything they command. And due to this, Allaah [The Exalted] obligated on a person to believe in everything the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] brought and did not obligate on a person to believe in everything that comes from others.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob), and to Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Musa (Moses) and ‘Iesa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam).” [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 136]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, and each and every act of obedience to Allah, etc.) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers); but Al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets. [Al-Baqarah. 177]

And because of this the Muslims are all in agreement that the one who disbelieved in a single Prophet whose Prophethood is well known, then he is a disbeliever- an apostate. There is no distinction between one Prophet from the other- by believing in some and disbelieving in others. Allah said:

Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allah and His Messengers (by believing in Allah and disbelieving in His Messengers) saying, “We believe in some but reject others,” and wish to adopt a way in between. They are in truth disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating torment. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayaat 150-151] [4]

[2] The virtue of saving a life – [Reminder to those denying Zionist War Crimes]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Exalted, said:

مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا

If anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land – it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. [Al-Ma’idah. 32]

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If a person is bold enough to kill someone who does not deserve to be killed, this implies that he does make a distinction between the one he killed and other than him; rather he would commit this act whenever his evil calls him to that. Therefore, his bold attitude that led him to kill is as if he has killed all humankind. On the other hand, if a person saves a life and does not kill – whilst his soul calls him to do so – due to fear of Allah, this is as if he has saved the lives of all humankind because the fear of Allah he possesses stops him killing one who does not deserve to be killed. [An Excerpt from Tafsir As-Sadi]

In the above article from the Jerusalem Post, the author/s convey their strong disagreement with what they perceive as an exaggerated death toll of Palestinians and raise concerns about the transparency of Gaza’s health authorities in differentiating between combatants and non-combatants. Firstly, nevertheless, even if the statistics provided by various international organizations and Gaza officials contain mistakes, it does not lessen the tragedy of a single innocent life lost. Moreover, it does not change the fact that for more than 70 years, Palestinians have endured violence and oppression at the hands of Zionists, culminating in recent experiences of displacement, starvation, and death. Therefore, while it is crucial to report accurate information—especially in an age rife with misinformation, ideological conflicts, and propaganda—the primary concern for anyone with a sense of justice should be the urgent need to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Various organisations have recorded observations as follows:

Third, it is universally acknowledged that the actions taken by Hamas against unarmed civilians and non-combatants on October 7 are indefensible and are condemned unequivocally. “Upon this, to answer the eternally unanswered question of Piers Morgan, “Do you condemn Hamas?”, we condemn everyone who opposes the Divine Legislation by killing innocent civilians, including non-combatant men, the elderly, women, children, priests, monks and the likes, no matter who they are, Muslim or non-Muslim, whether ISIS, al-Qaeda, Hamas, Boko Haram or Benjamin Mileikowsky, the IDF, Settlers and their likes. Our condemnation is on the basis that such actions are unjust and oppose Divine Legislation and not because of the race or ethnicity or religion of the perpetrators, and thus we are able to maintain moral consistency and integrity. This is unlike Western politicians who are able to swiftly condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and support Ukraine (the invaded and occupied in this case) with money and weapons for resistance, but unwilling to condemn the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Gazans, while supporting the Mileikowsky regime with bombs, missiles and military hardware to facilitate the execution of that genocide and ethnic cleansing. https://abuiyaad.com/a/amalekite-genocide-doctrine-gaza

Hamas must be condemned permanently for what they did, however, none can justify what Netanyahu’s army is doing under the guise of self-defense and retaliation. The reality of the situation is clear: the actions of the Zionist army under Netanyahu’s leadership amount to war crimes, and this is evident to all. Furthermore, the rhetoric employed by certain Zionist leaders, including Netanyahu himself, is telling and cannot be overlooked.

Introspection concerning the internal (hidden) adversary

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, says:

وَٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُواْ فِينَا لَنَہۡدِيَنَّہُمۡ سُبُلَنَا‌ۚ

As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allah’s Religion – Islamic Monotheism)] [29:69]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Junaid, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: ‘Those who strive against their (vain) desires through repentance, Allah will guide them to the paths of sincerity. It is not possible to strive against the enemy in the open, except for the one who strives against these enemies inwardly. Thus, whoever is aided against them, he will be victorious against his enemy and whoever is made to be overcome by them, his enemy will be made victorious over him'”. [1]

Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy upon, said:

Beware that (vain) desires urges an individuals to seek immediate gratification without contemplating its evil repercussions – urges one towards fleeting pleasures, despite the fact that it is a cause of pain and harm in this life and an obstruction to pleasure in the afterlife. In contrast, a sensible individual refrains from indulging in pleasures that ultimately yield pain and desires that lead to regret. This serves as a sufficient commendation of what a sound mind dictates and a rebuke against (vain) desires.

Beware that desires can dominate an individual across various domains of study, exits them them from the boundaries of sound reasoning and leading them into behaviour that resemble foolishness. It may infiltrate the realm of knowledge, causing a person to contradict what sound knowledge commands, or it may enter into Zuhd, resulting in a tendency towards Riyaa (showoff, ostentation).

A sensible individual should know that those who succumb to base desires ultimately find themselves in a condition where enjoyment eludes them. Simultaneously, they become incapable of relinquishing these desires, as they begin to perceive them as a necessity of life. Consequently, one observes that individuals struggling with alcoholism and sexual addiction derive minimal satisfaction from their pursuits, yet they find themselves ensnared in a dangerous cycle that compels them to repeatedly engage in these behaviours. However, when one attains clarity of vision and the allure of these base desires diminishes, it becomes evident that they have subjected themselves to a form of destruction that contradicts their well-being—resulting in sorrow and suffering rather than joy in their quest for pleasure. In this regard, they resemble an animal ensnared in a trap, having neither attained the bait that lured them nor the ability to escape.

One should contemplate the fact that humans were not created (solely) to satisfy their desires; instead, they have been endowed with (the capacity for sound knowledge, derived from divine revelation and untainted perception), to consider the repercussions of their actions and to engage in virtuous conduct for the sake of the Afterlife. An animal derives pleasure from eating, drinking, and mating to a greater extent than humans, yet they lead lives that lack reflection and awareness. Consequently, it is driven by its desires, remaining oblivious to the consequences of its actions.

One should reflect on the repercussions of (vain) desires, as many individuals are stripped of their virtues and descend into a state of moral decay as a result. Consider the various types of food that can lead to illness stemming from (unchecked) cravings. Furthermore, how many errors tarnish a person’s honour, resulting in a evil reputation and the burden of guilt from transgressions driven by (vain) desires, yet the individual remains fixated solely on those desires? The most fitting analogy for such a person is that of someone in a tannery; they remain oblivious to the unpleasant odour until they leave, at which point they become acutely aware of where they were.

A sensible individual ought to consider the disgrace that may arise from (vain) desires and the detrimental effects stemming from such pleasures, for they will realise that, in many instances, these consequences are directly linked to those desires and pleasures.

One should reflect on (the presence of) others, ponder and get a hint the potential (evil) outcomes. This reflection will reveal the culpability associated with actions that one might be guilty of. One should contemplate those pleasures, as (sound) reasoning will make them realises that they are merely (fleeting) desires and a situation of blindness. One should contemplate the honour a person receives due to being given the upper hand versus the degradation associated with yielding to one’s desires. The one who overcomes their (vain) desires will strengthen their honour, while the one who succumbs to their desires will not find except humiliation and subjugation in the soul. One should contemplate the benefits of resisting (base) desires, including the respect garnered in this life, the preservation of one’s soul and honour, as well as the rewards that await in the hereafter. Emotional Challenges

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Some emotional challenges mentioned by Al-Allamah Abdur Rahman Bin Yahyah Al-Mu’allimee that may have prevented al-Kawtharee from embracing the truth

To oppose desires – by way of action – for the sake of the truth is a manifest thing due to the obligation and difficulty it involves, and this can be viewed from different angles as follows:

A person sees that by acknowledging the truth, it would necessitate that he has acknowledged that he was upon falsehood. (This is) because a person is nurtured upon a religion, creed, school of thought or views, which he acquired from his nurturer and teacher, considers it to be the truth and followed it for a long time. Then when it becomes clear to him that (the religion, creed, view, or school of thought) is false, it becomes difficult for him to acknowledge, just like when his forefathers, ancestors or the one he follows are upon  a path and its falsity is clarified for him, for he sees that their deficiencies necessitate his own deficiencies, and an acknowledgement of their misguidance or errors necessitates his own.

It may be that clinging to falsehood gives him prestige, fame and a livelihood, thus, it becomes difficult for him to acknowledge this falsehood and thus all those benefits (i.e. the fame, prestige, livelihood etc) would disappear.

It may be that a person is upon ignorance or falsehood, then another person comes along and clarifies the proofs for him, thus, he sees that by acknowledging such proofs, it would necessitate that he is lacking (in understanding) and that it was that person who guided him. Due to this, we find that it is not difficult for some of those attributed to knowledge to acknowledge their mistakes when it becomes manifests to them in their researches and studies, but it becomes difficult for them if it was others who clarified such mistakes.

When another person clarifies the truth for him, he sees that by acknowledging such truth it would necessitate an acknowledgement of the clarifier’s virtue, knowledge and correctness due to that clarification, thus, that becomes great in the eyes of the people and many people follow him [i.e. the person who clarified the truth]. So you will find some of those attributed to knowledge being eager to prove the mistakes of other scholars even if that is done by way of falsehood due to envy and seeking to diminish their status amongst the people.

Appealing to the conscience of the writer, Yonatan Freeman

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abdullah Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Whoever would love to be delivered from Hellfire and admitted into Paradise, let him meet his end while believing in Allah and the Last Day, and let him treat people as he would love to be treated”. [Ṣaḥiḥ Muslim 1844]

In this article, we will take a moment to discuss the views of Yonatan Freeman, who praises the Zionists while also addressing the loss of life under Netanyahu’s leadership. However, it’s important to note that he does not acknowledge the ongoing genocide and suffering faced by Palestinians due to Netanyahu’s far-right administration in this particular piece. Justice requires us to denounce anyone who unlawfully takes a life, regardless of their background—be it a Zionist, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Rafidi, or others. Next, we will share some of Yonatan’s quotes and provide our thoughts on them.

Yonatan stated: “Since the October 7 massacre, Israel has been undergoing a process of rebirth – both in its internal perception and in the way the world views it”. [end of quote]

Response: Since October 7, the actions of the Zionists have involved war crimes and acts of genocide, aimed at instilling fear and seizing what is not rightfully theirs. Their mindset remains unchanged, as they view themselves as God’s chosen people, which they believe justifies their ongoing brutality under the guise of self-defense. Meanwhile, many around the world perceive the Zionists as mere villains, thieves, and oppressors.

Yonatan stated: “The growing recognition that Israeli actions against Tehran over the past year contributed to the fall of Iran’s ally, Bashar al-Assad, in Syria – as well as the recent decision by The Hague’s International Criminal Court on arrest warrants, which failed to garner significant support in the Western world – should come as no surprise”. [end of quote]

Response: The presence of conflict aside, both the Zionists and the Rafidah are notorious for their questionable conduct. While certain Zionists aspire to expand their territorial claims, subjugating the Palestinian people and frequently invoking the specter of antisemitism to deflect criticism, the Rafidah similarly engage in destabilizing endeavors, often utilizing proxies to further their agenda. As for Netanyahu’s dependence on foreign allies while his Zionist forces perpetuate violence, this reveals a greater faith in human support than reliance on Allah. Those who are truly devout act righteously and place their trust in Allah, while those who persist in wrongdoing lean on worldly support. Ultimately, no one can evade the will of Allah. Allah said:

(They took to flight because of their) arrogance in the land and their plotting of evil. But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it. Then, can they expect anything (else), but the Sunnah (way of dealing) of the peoples of old? So no change will you find in Allah’s Sunnah (way of dealing), and no turning off will you find in Allah’s Sunnah (way of dealing). Have they not travelled in the land, and seen what was the end of those before them, and they were superior to them in power? Allah is not such that anything in the heavens or in the earth escapes Him. Verily, He is All-Knowing, All-Omnipotent. [35:43-44]

It is not particularly astonishing that Netanyahu’s arrest has not garnered widespread support; rather, what is truly surprising is that those who support him have failed to learn from the fate of historical oppressors and their backers, including figures such as Fir’awn, Haman, Namrud, Bukhtanasar, and their allies. Allah, The Exalted, said:

Those before them indeed plotted, but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them, and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them and will say: “Where are My (so called) ‘partners’ concerning whom you used to disagree and dispute (with the believers, by defying and disobeying Allah)?” Those who have been given the knowledge (about the Torment of Allah for the disbelievers) will say: “Verily! Disgrace this Day and misery are upon the disbelievers. [An-Nahl. 26-27]

[قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ – Those before them indeed plotted]: The Mufassiroon say that this refers to Namrood who built a tall tower in order to climb – as he claimed – the heavens and fight its inhabitants.

[فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ – but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them]: The Mufassiroon say: Allah sent a wind which flung the top of the tower to the sea and the rest was destroyed. [وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive]: Meaning, from where they thought they were safe. [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace]: Meaning, disgraced with punishment. [1]

[قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ – Those before them indeed plotted]: Meaning plotted against their Messengers, employed various types of tricks in order to reject that which the messengers brought and established gigantic safeguards [by way of arguments, views etc] on their plots. [فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ – but Allah struck at the foundation of their building]– Meaning, an affair came to them from its basis and foundation [فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ – and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them] -Meaning, so what they built became a punishment for them.

[وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive]: Meaning, that is because they thought that such a building will benefit and protect them from punishment, but their punishment occurred from that which they built and established.

This is one the best of parables regarding how Allah nullifies the plots of his enemies, for indeed they pondered and reflected on that which the Messengers brought when they belied them, made up principles and rules for it based on falsehood, referred back to them to reject that which the Messengers came with, employed tricks to bring discomfort to the Messengers and inflict harm on them and those who followed them, but their plot became a source of evil against them, so their plan became their destruction, because their plot was evil as Allah said: [َلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ – But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. This is in this worldly life and the punishment in the afterlife would be more disgraceful, and due to this Allah said: [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them]. [2]

Yonatan said: “There has rarely been a moment in Israel’s modern history when most civilized nations not only supported its actions but also appreciated its strength and relied on it for security and economic reasons. This influence is only growing stronger”. [end of quote]

Response: The actions of the Zionists are evident to all, leading many to assess their behavior based on the harsh realities of the destruction and violence they have inflicted. However, this writer views the Zionists in a more positive manner, suggesting that they receive backing from civilized nations due to their power and are seen as essential for economic stability and security. This perspective is not surprising, as historical oppressors, in their fervor for bloodshed and dominance, often proclaimed their superiority in both strength and morality. Allah stated about Fir’awn: Allah said about Fir’awn: [وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ – Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said] – Meaning, with haughtiness and tyranny, whilst deluding his foolish people; [ذَرُونِي أَقْتُلْ مُوسَىٰ وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّهُ – Leave me to kill Musa (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)!]

This was his claim that had it not been for his consideration of the wishes of his people, he would have killed Musa and that (Musa’s) supplication to his Lord would not have prevented him from that. Fir’awn then mentioned what made him want to kill Musa and that he is a sincere adviser to his people, and that he wished to remove mischief from the land. Allaah [The Most High] stated that Fir’awn said: [إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُبَدِّلَ دِينَكُمْ أَوْ أَنْ يُظْهِرَ فِي الْأَرْضِ الْفَسَادَ – I fear that he (Musa) may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!” [Ghaafir 26]

This is the most amazing the affair can be! The most evil one among the creation gives advice to the people against the best among the creation. This is (nothing but) disguised falsehood and propaganda, which cannot seize except the intellects of those (people) about whom Allah stated: [فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ – Thus he Fir’aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).] [Az-Zukhruf 54] [3]

Throughout history, the proud and arrogant figures have consistently turned a blind eye to truth, choosing instead to subjugate those around them. [Refer to Footnote a]

Yonatan stated: “Since the October 7 massacre, Israel has been undergoing a process of rebirth – both in its internal perception and in the way the world views it. The country is simultaneously fighting on seven different fronts, demonstrating impressive military intelligence capabilities and operating a conscription-based military model that critics often claimed was a relic of the past”. [end of quote]

Response: Rather, we remind Yonatan that the situation at hand can be characterised as a series of genocidal actions perpetrated against the Palestinian people by Zionist forces whilst appealing for support – a dynamic that has been witnessed throughout history by tyrants who navigate the complexities of support and opposition. Many have argued that it is not the nation itself that is in conflict, but rather the Zionists and the far-right extremists within their government have used the nation for their own agendas. Their military operations are heavily reliant on the backing of some other nations. May Allah grant the Palestinians relief from this oppression and genocide Ameen.

Yonatan stated: “During this war, Israel is forging a new “manifest destiny” for itself in the international arena: to lead the struggle for freedom, stability, and security – not only in the Middle East but also on the global stage”. [end of quote]

Response: The sentiment evoked by this statement is one of profound ambivalence, oscillating between laughter and tears. Amidst the pervasive corruption observed among the Zionists, the author boldly asserts that they are at the forefront of the global struggle for freedom, a claim that invites skepticism and contemplation. Allah said:

And when it is said to them: ‘’Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “We are only peacemakers. Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not. [Al-Baqarah 11-12]

Yonatan stated: “While there is a global appreciation for Israel’s resilience, there is also an acknowledgment of the intelligence failure that led to the outbreak of the war, with many comparing it to the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. However, the more compelling comparison lies not in what caused these events but in how they transformed both nations internally and elevated their standing in the world”. [end of quote]

Response: The notion of global appreciation is a fallacy; instead, what exists is a selective admiration from certain individuals and those who follow their path, who have, both directly and indirectly, facilitated the Zionists in their campaign of oppression against the Palestinian people over the past seven decades. [Refer to Footnote b]

The circumstances that precipitated the war are subject to a multitude of interpretations. However, for those of discerning intellect, the pressing issue at present lies not in what the Japanese did in the past but in the ongoing atrocities perpetrated by the Zionists. No narrative can be crafted to obscure this reality and aiming to paint a future that is commendable. The actions of the Zionists reveal a deepening moral decay, unless Allah grants relief to the Palestinians. While their deeds may elevate their status among those who share their mindset or among the unsuspecting, for those who grasp the truth, the Zionists are merely compounding their transgressions, all the while amassing wealth. This phenomenon is nothing short of Itidraj. Allah said:

Those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not. And I respite them; certainly My Plan is strong. [7/182-183]

Imam Sufyan Ath-Thawri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said that this means, “Whenever they commit sins, Allah bestows a blessing on them and make them forgetful of seeking forgiveness”. [4]

[سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم – We shall gradually seize them with punishment] – by granting them plentiful provision and respite until they think that they will neither be taken to task for their disobedience nor punished, so they increase in disbelief and transgression, and evil upon evil. And through this their punishment is increased and multiplied, so they harm themselves in ways they perceive not. This is why Allah said: [إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ -certainly My Plan is strong] [End of Quote] [5]

Yonatan stated: “In the American case, the attack on Pearl Harbor, which claimed thousands of lives, compelled the United States to abandon its tendency to isolate itself and shy away from international involvement. Under the leadership of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman, the US emerged victorious in World War II, becoming a global superpower and the leader of the democratic world”. [end of quote]

Response: While we did not witness those historical events firsthand, we can assert with certainty that before the conflict erupted between Germany and various nations, including the United States, numerous countries in Africa and Asia remained under the oppressive grip of colonialism. Furthermore, prior to this tumultuous period, certain influential demagogues and ideologues from the UK and the US were subtly facilitating the Zionist movement’s ambitions in Palestine. Also, in the aftermath of Germany’s war with other nations, a new world order emerged. Al-Allamah Salih Aala Ash-Shaikh, may Allah preserve him, stated:

A new world order was created when World War II started, which the Allies won. America triumphed over its enemies, leading to the formation of the United Nations. The term “New World Order” did not come about after the Gulf War; it actually began with ideas and principles that arose after World War II. The Major powers use this term when they want to impose something new on society, people, and nations, regardless of their cultural backgrounds. To exert influence over all nations, the main powerful countries aimed to build a new world order after the war. This influence can be cultural, sometimes shown through strong opinions and freedoms, and at other times, it involves interfering in the matters of nations they want to influence. A document with thirty articles was drafted by the United Nations and included in the new international organisation in 1948. Later, revisions and additions were made to the document, which became known as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. With the additions currently made, this document represents the human rights they advocate. The United Nations and Western nations’ support for human rights is centered on two issues: freedom and intergroup equality. Among the provisos were those that forbade specific kinds of dealings and limited the state’s authority over its citizens. Many nations’ affairs were meddled with and dictated by Western nations and the UN; consequently, some nations’ reputations may be damaged as a result of what they failed to do. Due to meddling in their lives, questioning them about what they did to obtain these freedoms, and bringing up specific instances, the interference may be more pronounced. The Declaration of Human Rights has its own circumstances and motivations, as well as goals that support the principles of the main colonial empires. [6]

Yonatan stated: “Similarly, Israel is now undergoing a profound transformation. The Israel-Hamas War is solidifying Jerusalem’s position in the global arena while uniting the Israeli public in its cause. Instead of seeing an exodus, the country has witnessed long lines of those signing up for combat service. The Israeli economy has proven to be both stable and adaptable, establishing local production lines despite the extensive manpower diverted to reserve duty”. [end of quote]

Response: It is undeniable that the actions of Hamas are indefensible in the eyes of any rational individual; nevertheless, it is essential to recognize that Hamas serves as a tool for the Far-right agenda. Read: https://www.abuiyaad.com/w/hamas-israeli-right

Those who stand in support of the Zionists in their acts against the Palestinians, while labeling such actions as unity, are engaging in a union steeped in sin and wrongdoing. Without divine guidance from Allah, this form of unity will ultimately lead to malevolence in the afterlife, where they will turn against one another, as Allah has stated:

On the Day when their faces will be turned over in the Fire, they will say: “Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger (Muhammad).”And they will say: “Our Lord! Verily, we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us from the (Right) Way. Our Lord! give them double torment and curse them with a mighty curse!” [33: 66-68]

Yonatan stated: “On the diplomatic front, Israel’s position has only grown stronger. The democratic world continues to cooperate with Jerusalem, purchasing military technologies and even sending direct aid. Arab countries that joined the Abraham Accords remain invested in weakening Iran, understanding that such efforts could advance normalization processes with Israel. Not a single Arab country has broken off its relations with Israel since the war’s outbreak”. [end of quote]

Response: Countries require diplomatic relations, irrespective of their counterparts. The Messenger established peace and forged treaties even with the most aggressive idolators. The Muslim governments that enter into these Accords do so with a focus on what they perceive as advantageous for their own states, and the Muslim leaders are permitted to engage in such treaties. Read: Are Treaties With The Jews, the State of ‘Israel’ and other Non-Muslims Permitted? Is it Allegiance? Is it Apostasy? https://abukhadeejah.com/treaties-with-the-non-muslims-do-they-necessitate-allegiance/

The Rafidah, much like the Zionists, share a commonality in their role as agents of corruption upon this earth. Despite their nefarious actions, they are also in need of diplomatic ties with others.

Yonatan stated: “Given this momentum, Israel today enjoys broad legitimacy in continuing its struggle against Iran and its proxies. The international community recognizes that Israel is not only a primary victim of these threats but also the most experienced nation in combating them”. [end of quote]

Response: It is indisputable that every individual, including the Zionists, possesses an inherent right to exist within the the human race. Nevertheless, the Zionists will forever be devoid of legitimacy in light of their decades-long oppression of the Palestinians, regardless of the consensus among those who may condone their actions. As for the Rafidah and their affiliates, their reputation is well established in the Ummah. [Refer to Footnote c]

Yonatan stated: “Undoubtedly, the war is expected to be long and will exact a heavy price on Israel’s home front. Yet, as time passes, more nations are likely to join an Israeli-led coalition against Iran. When the war ends – on Israel’s terms and timeline – the Jewish state will have transformed fundamentally. The perception of Israel as limited in the political arena or incapable of leading global initiatives will dissipate. From now on, the decisions made in Jerusalem will hold as much weight – if not more – as those made in Washington, London, or Berlin. The world will stop viewing Israel as a problem-maker and begin seeing it as a problem-solver. At a time when America’s presence in the international arena appears to be waning, opportunities are emerging for Israel to assert its strength and play a pivotal role in regions previously beyond its reach”. [end of quote]

Response: First, we remind Yonatan that Allah said: [لِلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِنۢ بَعْدُ – The decision of the matter, before and after is only with Allah] [30:4]

The divine will of Allah governs all affairs based on perfect knowledge, wisdom and justice. He alone determines the duration of this conflict and the significant toll it exacts on all involved. May the actions of Muslim leaders be directed towards the ultimate good for Islam and its followers, and may Allah safeguard the Muslim nations from the threats posed by the Zionists and the Rafidah. The attainment of strength and influence is only in the hands of Allah. Furthermore, history has shown that even the most oppressive empires, once at the pinnacle of power and influence, were ultimately brought to ruin. Allah said:

Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they belied the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, Messengers, etc.) of Allah and made mock of them. [30: 9-10]

Yonatan said: “The blue-and-white flag will not only symbolize a Jewish state but also embody a vision of hope and democracy. Israel will not merely rediscover its destiny; it will position itself as an inspiring leader on the global stage”. [end of quote]

Response: The ambitions of the writer resonate with those of countless individuals who have stood by their nations while simultaneously witnessing the oppression of others. Why has Yonatan failed to address in this article the tragic loss of over 40,000 Palestinian lives, many of whom lie buried beneath the rubble, all under the guise of self-defense? Why has he not denounced the genocidal rhetoric employed by Netanyahu and certain supporters? [Refer to Footnote d]

As for the people who possess the least decency, they unequivocally condemn all who, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, take the lives of innocent and defenseless women, children, and non-combatants, irrespective of the justifications offered by oppressors or the support and propaganda disseminated in political arenas and the media. Such actions are nothing short of hubris and arrogance, and those who embody such traits will find no success in the Hereafter. Allah stated: [تِلْكَ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًا وَٱلْعَٰقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ – That home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the pious]. [28:83]

Attributing Disorder and Turmoil to Salafiyyah – A Brief Rebuttal to Ephrem Kossaify

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Verily, a slave (of Allah) may utter a word which pleases Allah without giving it much importance, and because of that Allah will raise him to degrees (of reward): a slave (of Allah) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases Allah without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 6478]

This hadith serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers associated with our speech and the repercussions of talking without knowledge or reverence for Allah. Ephrem Kossaify displayed a troubling and hazardous lack of understanding regarding Salafiyyah while discussing issues of white supremacy, racism, and the murder of George Floyd in the following manner:

“It could be that those Arabs who say white nationalism is America’s greatest peril are in fact exposing their own anxieties about ethnicity, sectarianism and violent extremism. “Islamic extremism, be it in its Salafist or Muslim Brotherhood versions, uses force to change the world view, starting in their own country, and expanding to include infidels of other nations. Look what just happened in France,” El-Hady said, referring to Samuel Paty, a teacher who was beheaded near his school on Oct. 6 for showing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in class. The perpetrator, an 18-year-old ethnic Chechen named Abdullakh Anzorov, is alleged to have had ties to Islamic extremist groups abroad. “These terrorist organizations that have plagued the Arab world are much more dangerous than white nationalism,” said El-Hady]. [source: Arab News. October 26, 2020, EPHREM KOSSAIFY. Updated 27 October 2020]

We begin by reminding this audacious slanderer of Salafiyyah about the seriousness of making uninformed judgments on religious issues. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Since the true followers of the Prophets and the adherents of the Prophetic Sunnah are those who possess knowledge and justice, their discourse towards unbelievers and proponents of religious innovations must be based on knowledge and justice rather than conjecture and what the soul desires. And because of this, the Prophet [peace be upon him and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: “The judges are three: one will go to Paradise and two to Hell. A man who knows the truth and judges with it will enter paradise; a man who knows the truth but judges with the opposite of it will enter the fire, and a man who judges for the people based on ignorance will enter the fire”. [Abu Dawud 3573]

And if it is the case that the person who judges between people over matters of wealth, blood (such as murder cases, physical assault, etc.), and honour will burn in hell if he is not a just scholar, then what about the person who renders judgements on creeds, religions, the fundamentals of belief, divine knowledge, and the broad fundamental principles relating to many subject subjects without knowledge or fairness, as is the case with those who advocate for religious innovations and desires – those who adhere to ambiguous, dubious topics, disregard the unambiguous texts that the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them] transmitted, cling to issues that are vaguely related through analogy and opinion, and then present issues whose differences cannot be equated or reconciled. [Al-Jawaabus Saheeh 1/26-30]

Furthermore, it is unnecessary to engage in discussions surrounding white supremacy, racism, and terrorism, as any reasonable individual recognizes the profound immorality inherent in these ideologies. Ephrem’s perilous ignorance and misguided assertions led him to draw unfounded parallels between Salafiyyah and the methods employed by terrorists. However, this slander is far from novel; it represents a familiar strategy employed by many secularists, Zionists, demagogues, journalists, rabble-rousers and their cohorts, aimed at undermining the legitimacy of Salafiyyah. Thus, it is imperative that we illuminate the misconceptions held by this charlatan and others who seek to obscure the true essence of Salafiyyah. Saudi Salafi Scholar, Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

The creed and methodologies of the kharijites somewhat influenced the political groups that emerged during this era. And as a result, they do not place any value on matters other than politics, do not care about improving the Ummah’s situation through (sound) creed and knowledge, and do not consider matters pertaining to the Ummah’s return to the Book, the Sunnah, and the piety and steadfastness that the pious predecessors were upon in all aspects of the Religion. Rather, they make the Ummah more corrupt in creed and conduct. Thus, you see them waging war against the scholars (i.e. the upright scholars) and the people who (truly) follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah while pledging loyalty to those who promote misguidance and innovation in religion. They set up false goals and catchphrases for proponents of misguidance and innovations in religion, and among them are Sayyid Qutb and his followers, who adopted the creed, methodology, and political views of the Khawarij, the Rawafid, the Mu’tazilah, and the Jahmiyyah, particularly when it comes to the topic of Takfir based on oppression and ignorance. He said that all human societies are ignorant pre-Islamic societies, with the Muslim Ummah being the worse in their apostasy and state of pre-Islamic ignorance. Later, the Baatiniyyah path was added to this (methodology of his, such as) assassinations, and blowing up (buildings, people, etc.). Then, on the basis of a daring conspiracy against the leaders (of the Salafi Methodology), his adherents claim to represent the Salafi Methodology. As a result, if you are aware of this, you will be able to identify the treacherous ones and know that the Salafi Methodology is free from this kind of Takfir and devastation. If you are aware of this, it would be equivalent to an act of evident oppression when the Raafidah, the secularists, and the rationalists attribute (false) Takfir, and destruction to the Salafi methodology.  (1)

Saudi Salafi Scholar, Al-Allamah Saaleh Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

“Salafiyyah is to follow the path of Salafus Saalih (The pious predecessors) – the companions of Muhammad, the followers of Muhammad’s companions and the virtuous generations. Allah [The Most High] said: [وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِينَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِـإِحۡسَـٰنٍ۬ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡہُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُ -And the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansaar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhaajiroon) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him]. [9:100]

Allah [The Most High] said about Muhammad’s companions:

Verily, those who believed, and emigrated and strove hard and fought with their property and their lives in the Cause of Allah as well as those who gave (them) asylum and help, – these are (all) allies to one another [8:72] until Allah stated: [وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدُ وَهَاجَرُواْ وَجَـٰهَدُواْ مَعَكُمۡ فَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ مِنكُمۡ‌ۚ – And those who believed afterwards, and emigrated and strove hard along with you, (in the Cause of Allaah) they are of you]. [8:75]

Allah said in Surah Al-Hashar:

(And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allaah and to please Him. And helping Allaah (i.e. helping His religion) and His Messenger (Muhammad). Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say); And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them.” [59:8-9]- up until His [The Most High] statement:

[وَٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَلِإِخۡوَٲنِنَا ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلۡإِيمَـٰنِ – And those who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith]. 59:10

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “This ummah will split into seventy-three sects; all of them will enter the fire except one. They said, ‘Which is that (saved sects) O Messenger of Allaah?’ He replied, ‘Those who are upon that which I and my companions are upon today’. The Prophet said, ‘Adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafaa after me’. (see footnote a)

We are required to adhere to the Salafiyyah Methodology, and we must give up any other approaches that go against it. Salafiyyah is the Methodology that has been obligated on us to follow and we are to abandon all other methodologies that are in opposition to it. The adherents to Salafiyyah are the saved sect, Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah, and they are the aided group till the Day of Judgement. May Allaah include us among them.  However, in order for a Muslim to adhere to this methodology, they must be aware of its basics. And to avoid the various methodologies that are in conflict with Salafiyyah, (one) must be aware of them.

As a result, Salafiyyah on the path of the pious predecessors must be (adopted) on the basis of knowledge and discernment. It is insufficient for a person to identify as Salafi while being either unaware of or opposed to it. Allaah [The Most High] said: [ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِـإِحۡسَـٰنٍ۬ – And also those who followed them exactly (in Faith)].

They follow them (i.e. the pious predecessors) based on knowledge, never engaging in either extreme or negligent behaviour. They don’t overstate the case or fail to give it its due, unlike those who identify with the four imams’ schools of law (Abu Haneefah, Maalik, Shaafi’ee, and Ahmad), although disagreeing with them on matters of creed and worship. And like the one who ascribes to the path of the pious predecessors, however, he either declares Muslims to be unbelievers or rebels against Muslim rulers, or he takes further steps in the direction of extremism.  This person is not a Salafi; instead, he is referred to as a Khaariji or a Mutazili. Or like the person who claims to follow the methodology of the pious predecessors but agrees with the Mur’ji’a’s stance on the subject matter of Eemaan and Kufr. This isn’t Salafiyyah. Therefore, it is imperative to pay attention to this matter and avoid combining the Salafi methodology with other methodologies that are opposed to it and then declaring that all of these methodologies, including the Salafi methodology, are not from Islam. This is careless speech and oppressive judgement, and it amounts to deceiving the people. (2)

The elucidations provided by Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi and Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve them, are undeniably ample to dispel the nefarious allegations put forth by the deceitful and audacious Ephrem Kossaify. May Allah guide him or protect us from his slanders Amin.

Some verses of the Qur’an regarding wind

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allah [The Exalted] said:

And among His Signs is this, that He sends the winds as glad tidings, giving you a taste of His Mercy (i.e. rain), and that the ships may sail at His Command, and that you may seek of His Bounty, in order that you may be thankful. [Ar-Rum. 46]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

Allah is He Who sends the winds, so they raise clouds, and spread them along the sky as He wills, and then break them into fragments, until you see rain drops come forth from their midst! Then when He has made them fall on whom of His slaves as He will, lo! they rejoice! And verily before that (rain), just before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair! Look then at the effects (results) of Allah’s Mercy, how He revives the earth after its death. Verily! That (Allah) Who revived the earth after its death shall indeed raise the dead (on the Day of Resurrection), and He is Able to do all things. [Ar-Rum.48-50]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

And it is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain). Till when they have carried a heavy-laden cloud, We drive it to a land that is dead, then We cause water (rain) to descend thereon. Then We produce every kind of fruit therewith. Similarly, We shall raise up the dead, so that you may remember or take heed. [Al-A’raf. 57]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allah sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs, etc.) for people of understanding. [Al-Baqarah. 164]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَأَرۡسَلۡنَا ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ لَوَٲقِحَ فَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً۬ فَأَسۡقَيۡنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمۡ لَهُ ۥ بِخَـٰزِنِينَ

And We send the winds fertilizing (to fill heavily the clouds with water), then caused the water (rain) to descend from the sky, and We gave it to you to drink, and it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. [Al-Hijr. 22]

Allah [The Exalted] stated:

فَسَخَّرۡنَا لَهُ ٱلرِّيحَ تَجۡرِى بِأَمۡرِهِۦ رُخَآءً حَيۡثُ أَصَابَ

So, We subjected to him (i.e. Prophet Sulaymaan) the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed. [Saad.36]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَلِسُلَيۡمَـٰنَ ٱلرِّيحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَہۡرٌ۬ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَہۡرٌ۬ۖ

And to Solomon (We subjected) the wind, its morning (stride from sunrise till midnoon) was a month’s (journey), and its afternoon (stride from the midday decline of the sun to sunset) was a month’s (journey i.e. in one day he could travel two months’ journey). [Saba. 12]

Allah [The Exalted] stated:

وَلِسُلَيْمَانَ الرِّيحَ عَاصِفَةً تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَالِمِينَ

And to Sulaiman (Solomon) (We subjected) the wind strongly raging, running by his command towards the land which We had blessed. And of everything We are the All-Knower. [Al-Anbiya. 81]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَفِى عَادٍ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلۡعَقِيمَ
مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىۡءٍ أَتَتۡ عَلَيۡهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتۡهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ

And in Aad (there is also a sign) when We sent against them the barren wind. It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins. [Adh-Dhaariyaat. 41-42]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡہِمۡ رِيحً۬ا صَرۡصَرً۬ا فِى يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٍ۬ مُّسۡتَمِرٍّ۬
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّہُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ۬ مُّنقَعِرٍ۬
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Verily, We sent against them (i.e. the disbelievers of Aad) a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? [Al-Qamar. 19-21]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

Then, when they (.e. the disbelievers of Aad) saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said: “This is a cloud bringing us rain!” Nay, but it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened! a wind wherein is a painful torment! Destroying everything by the Command of its Lord! So they became such that nothing could be seen except their dwellings! Thus do We recompense the people who are Mujrimun (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, etc.)! [Al-Ahqaaf. 24-25]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

He(Allah) it is Who enables you to travel through land and sea, till when you are in the ships and they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they are glad therein, then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think that they are encircled therein, they invoke Allah, making their Faith pure for Him Alone, saying: “If You (Allah) deliver us from this, we shall truly be of the grateful.” [Yunus. 22]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

أَمْ أَمِنْتُمْ أَنْ يُعِيدَكُمْ فِيهِ تَارَةً أُخْرَى فَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ قَاصِفًا مِنَ الرِّيحِ فَيُغْرِقَكُمْ بِمَا كَفَرْتُمْ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا بِهِ تَبِيعًا

Or do you feel secure that He will not send you back a second time to sea and send against you a hurricane of wind and drown you because of your disbelief, then you will not find any avenger therein against Us? [Al-Israa. 69]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

إِنْ يَشَأْ يُسْكِنِ الرِّيحَ فَيَظْلَلْنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ

If He wills, He causes the wind to cease, then they would become motionless on the back (of the sea). Verily, in this are signs for everyone patient and grateful. [Ash-Shuraa. 33]

Allah [The Exalted] stated:

حُنَفَاءَ لِلَّهِ غَيْرَ مُشْرِكِينَ بِهِ وَمَنْ يُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا خَرَّ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَتَخْطَفُهُ الطَّيْرُ أَوْ تَهْوِي بِهِ الرِّيحُ فِي مَكَانٍ سَحِيقٍ

Hunafa’ Lillah (i.e. to worship none but Allah), not associating partners (in worship, etc.) unto Him and whoever assigns partners to Allah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him to a far off place. [Al-Hajj. 31]

Allah [The Exalted] stated:

And put forward to them the example of the life of this world, it is like the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything. [Al-Kahf. 45]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَاللَّهُ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ الرِّيَاحَ فَتُثِيرُ سَحَابًا فَسُقْنَاهُ إِلَى بَلَدٍ مَيِّتٍ فَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِ الْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا كَذَلِكَ النُّشُورُ

And it is Allah Who sends the winds, so that they raise up the clouds, and We drive them to a dead land, and revive therewith the earth after its death. As such (will be) the Resurrection! [Faatir. 9]

Allah [The Exalted] said:

مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ كَرَمَادٍ اشْتَدَّتْ بِهِ الرِّيحُ فِي يَوْمٍ عَاصِفٍ لَا يَقْدِرُونَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوا عَلَى شَيْءٍ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الضَّلَالُ الْبَعِيدُ

The parable of those who disbelieve in their Lord is that their works are as ashes, on which the wind blows furiously on a stormy day, they shall not be able to get aught of what they have earned. That is the straying, far away (from the Right Path). [Ibrahim. 18]

Ibn Abbas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] narrated: “The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Jibreel visited him, and Jibreel used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet used to recite the Noble Qur’aan to Jibreel, and when Jibreel met him, he used to be more generous than the fair wind [sent by Allah with glad tidings (rain) in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds]”. [Sahih al-Bukhari 1902]

Zain Ibnul Muneer [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “The intent behind the likeness (or comparison) between the Prophet’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] generosity and the fair wind, is that the wind is one of mercy which Allaah [The Exalted] sends and sends down rain that falls everywhere- both on a dead land [i.e. falls on a dry land and revives it] as well as the land that is not dead; (likewise) the Prophet’s good conduct and benevolence benefits everyone – the poor, the wealthy and the one who has enough – more than the rain that falls [after the arrival of that] fair wind”. (1)

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “He [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was the most generous amongst the people with regards to wealth and bestowing (things) to the people, and not that he was (only) generous after being asked. And in the final year (of his life), Jibreel met him twice and he finished the recitation of the (Qur’an) twice. And from the benefits of (this hadeeth) is that: (a) it is more virtuous to study and recite the Qur’an at night with the righteous people, the scholars and the good people. The Prophet recited (the Qur’aan to Jibreel) to receive that which Allaah has of reward [i.e. reward in the afterlife]. (b) Generosity in times (when people are in need) and in Ramadaan is something sought after [in the religion of Islam]. (2)

Supplication During a Windstorm

O Allah, I ask You for the good of it, for the good of what it contains, and for the good of what is sent with it. I seek refuge in You from the evil of it, from the evil of what it contains, and from the evil that is sent with it. [ Muslim 2/616]

Reflections from some statements of Al-Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi al-Mad’khali [27 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

ﻭﻟﻴﺲ ﻟﻠﻤﻌﻠﻤﻴﻦ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺤﺰﺑﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ
ﻭﻳﻔﻌﻠﻮﺍ ﻣﺎ ﻳﻠﻘﻲ ﺑﻴﻨﻬﻢ ﺍﻟﻌﺪﺍﻭﺓ ﻭﺍﻟﺒﻐﻀﺎﺀ،
ﺑﻞ ﻳﻜﻮﻧﻮﻥ ﻣﺜﻞ ﺍﻷﺧﻮﺓ ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻌﺎﻭﻧﻴﻦ ﻋﻠﻰ
ﺍﻟﺒﺮ ﻭﺍﻟﺘﻘﻮﻱ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻗﺎﻝ ﺗﻌﺈﻟﻰ

It not allowed for the teachers to initiate (illegal) partisanship between the people and do that which would cause enmity and hatred between them; but rather they should be brothers who cooperate upon righteousness and piety, as Allah [The Exalted] said: [وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ – Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa [virtue, righteousness and piety]; but do not help one another in sin and transgression]. [Al-Ma’idah. 2]

It is not allowed for anyone of them to receive a pledge from anyone to be in agreement with him in everything he wants – having allegiance to the one he is allied to and enmity against the one he harbours enmity, and whoever does this is similar to Genghis Khan and his ilk (in this affair), who take as their loyal friends the one in agreement with them and the one who oppose them as a rebellious enemy; rather it is obligated on them and their followers (i.e. the teachers) to fulfil the covenant of Allah and His Messenger by obeying Allah and His Messenger, doing that which Allah and His Messenger have commanded, declare unlawful that which Allah and His Messenger have declared unlawful, and preserve the rights of the teachers in the manner commanded by Allah and His Messenger. So, if one’s teacher is oppressed, he should help him; but if the teacher is the oppressor, he should not aid him in his act of oppression; rather he forbids him from it, as it has been established in the authentic books of hadeeth that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?” The Prophet said, “By preventing him from oppressing others.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 2444] [End of quote] [1] [paraphrased]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, commented on the above statement as follows: “Today, this is almost absent among the Islamic groups. With great regret, he (the individual) aids his brother, whether they are oppressors or victims, following a methodology reminiscent of (a trait of) pre-Islamic ignorance. Without a doubt, this is a well known issue. Nevertheless, it is imperative that we repent to Allah, and return to the truth that our Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, nurtured us upon, which Allah wants for us- to be lovers of truth and its helpers. [2] [paraphrased] [End of quote]

Then Shaikh al-Islam, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If an argument and dispute occurs between a teacher and another teacher, or between a student and another student, it is not permissible for anyone to help one of them until he knows the truth – neither to aid him based on ignorance nor desires; rather he he examines the affair, so if the truth becomes clear to him, he helps the one who deserves to be helped (due to him being upon the truth) against the one upon error – regardless whether the one who deserves to be helped is one of his companions or the companion of someone else, or whether the one upon error is one of his companions or the companion of someone else. Therefore, the aim is only to worship Allah alone, obedience to Allah’s Messenger, adherence to truth and establishment of justice. Allah [The Exalted] said:

يا أيها الذين آمنوا كونوا قوامين بالقسط شهداء لله ولو على أنفسكم أو الوالدين والأقربين، إن يكن غنياً أو فقيراً فالله أولى بهما، فلا تتبعوا الهوى أن تعدلوا وإن تلووا أو تعرضوا فإن الله كان بما تعملون خبيراً

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah; even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. [An-Nisaa. 135]

It is said [لوى يلوي لسانه – twists (or diverts) his tongue, thus gives information based on lies and turns away to conceal the truth, for indeed, the one who remains silent in the face of truth is akin to a mute devil. Whoever aligns himself with his companion (merely based on attachment and not for the sake of truth), whether the truth favours them or not, he has judged by the standards of (a trait) of pre-Islamic ignorance, thus stepping outside the judgement of Allah and His Messenger (in this matter). It incumbent upon all of them to unite in support of the one upon truth against the one upon falsehood. The one exalted to them is the one whom Allah and His Messenger have exalted and the one who is beloved to them is the one whom Allah and His Messenger love (i.e. due to the truth he upholds); and the one who is degraded is the one whom Allah and His Messenger have degraded (i.e. due to being upon falsehood), determined based on what pleases Allah and His Messenger, rather than personal desires, for indeed, whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger is rightly guided, while those who disobeys Allah and His Messenger harm only themselves.

This is the fundamental principle that is firmly adhered to. Therefore, there is no need for their division and sectarianism. Allah, the Exalted, states: [إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيَعًا لَسْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ – Indeed, those who have divide their religion and become sects, you have no concern with them in anything]. [Al-An’am 109]

Allah said: [وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ تَفَرَّقُوا۟ وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ – And do not be like those who divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And for them is a great punishment] [Al-Imran: 105] [3] [Paraphrased] [End of quote]

Al-Allamah Rabee Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, commented on the above statement as follows:

It is obligated to every Muslim to self-reflect, as one may be inclined towards a person who possesses the truth due to personal desires, thus before the truth becomes clear, he might wish for a particular individual to prevail through proofs or other matters, so his soul inclined because he (i.e. the one he inclines towards) is so and so. Even if they are upon truth, it is not permissible that such inclination is present. If this inclination exists, even whilst he is with the person upon truth (or the rightful claimant), it reflects a judgement based on a (trait) of pre-Islamic ignorance. This matter does not often cross the minds of many people.

It is obligated to a Muslim to be closely mindful of Allah in matters of differing opinions, and his sole intention should be acquaintance with the truth, regardless of whether it is possessed by this or that one. Regarding this particular matter, Ash-Shafi’i, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “When I enter into a debate, it does not matter to me whether the truth is with the one am debating or with me”. He does not care, nor does he wish for the truth to be on his side; instead, he wishes that that it is with his companion and becomes a support for him. This is noble character and upright (adherence) to the religion. We ask Allah to include us among these just ones, the seekers of truth, and are far from desires and the ways of pre-Islamic ignorance. O brothers! What is obligated to us is to self-reflect. Whoever finds in his soul something of this disease, it is incumbent upon him to take immediate action and adopt the effective treatment, and consistently pursue the truth, in order to safeguard himself from blind loyalty, which can lead to Shirk, or grave misguidance. [4] [Paraphrased] [End of quote]

We ask Allah:

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. Iman is in the heart and not about growing the beard

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, was asked: What do you say regarding the one who when it is said to him, “Fear Allaah regarding sins, such as shaving the beard, smoking and Isbaal [i.e. wearing one’s garments below the ankles]”, he says, “Iman is in the heart and not about growing the beard, abandoning smoking and Isbaal”. And he says, “Indeed, Allah does not look at your bodies, rather He looks at your hearts”.

Response: This statement is often uttered by some of the ignorant people or those who hold false and erroneous views. It is a statement of truth by way of which falsehood is intended because he utters this statement to justify his sins – that even in the absence of deeds that are to be performed in obedience to Allah as well as not abandoning forbidden deeds, Iman in the heart is sufficient. This false and erroneous view is clearly exposed because Iman is not only something in the heart; rather Iman – as defined by Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah – is speech of the tongue (i.e. acts of worship carried out with the tongue), belief in the heart and deeds of the limbs. Imam Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Iman is neither merely to say something nor merely hope, rather it is what settles in the heart and deeds testify to it”.

Deeds of disobedience and abandoning obedience is proof that either there is no Iman in one’s heart or it is deficient. Allah [The Exalted] said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَأۡڪُلُواْ ٱلرِّبَوٰٓا – O you who believe! Eat not Riba (usury)]. [Aal Imran. 130]

Allah said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ – O you who believe! Do your duty to Allah and fear Him]. [Al-Maa’idah. 35]

Allah said: [مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحً۬ا- whosoever believed in Allah and the Last Day and worked righteousness]. [Al-Ma’idah. 69]

Allah said: [إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ – Truly those who believe, and do deeds of righteousness]. [Al-Baqarah. 277]

Allah said: [مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحً۬ا – whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds]. [Al-Baqarah. 62]

Iman cannot be complete except when accompanied by righteous deeds and abandoning disobedience. Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ
إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسۡرٍ
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ

By Al-‘Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss; except those who believe [in Islamic Monotheism] and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth, and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah’s Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism etc] [Surah Al-Asr]

Allah said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱلرَّسُولَ – O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger [Muhammad]. [An-Nisaa. 59]

Allah said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱسۡتَجِيبُواْ لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمۡ لِمَا يُحۡيِيڪُمۡ‌ۖ- O you who believe! Answer Allah (by obeying Him) and (His) Messenger when he calls you to that which will give you life [i.e. fill your hearts with Iman, guidance and lead you righteous deeds]. [Al-Anfaal. 24]

Belief in the heart alone is not enough without uttering one’s Iman with the tongue and performing deeds with the limbs because this [i.e. belief in the heart without performing deeds] is the Madhab of those Murji’ah amongst the Jahmiyyah and other than them, and it is a false Madhab; rather one has to believe in the heart, utter his Iman [i.e. what he believes in] and perform deeds with the limbs. Committing acts of disobedience is a proof of  the weakness and deficiency of the Iman in one’s heart because one’s Iman increases when Allah is obeyed and decreases when Allah is disobeyed.

Facilitated with all the means to attain nobility, but chooses to degrade himself

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Most High] said:

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ
ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَاهُ أَسْفَلَ سَافِلِينَ
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ

We have certainly created man in the best stature ‘in form, appearance, balance and strength, coupled with innate disposition and the power of reason. Then ‘due to his disbelief and opposing his innate disposition’, We return him to the lowest of the low in physical location, the Hellfire. Except those who believe and work righteous deeds, for they ‘due to their gratitude for being created in the best stature by worshipping Allah alone and obeying Him’, will have an unending, continuous reward ‘in Paradise, in the afterlife. [at-Teen 4-6]

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Allah created the human perfectly with different body parts and organs, and did not leave anything the human needs – externally and internally. Despite all these great blessings necessitating that they show gratitude to Allah, the majority of them are not thankful; rather, they are preoccupied in play and (blameworthy) amusement. Indeed, they bring themselves to the lowest level through deeds that degrade one’s manners, thus, Allah will reduce them to the lowest of the low – the lowest part of the hell fire, the place of the disobedient ones and those who turn away from their Lord. The only ones who will be saved from this are those whom Allah has blessed with Iman, righteous action, virtuous and lofty manners.
