Wahb Ibn Munabbih (rahimahullaah) said:
”Indeed, the worldly life and the afterlife are like a man who has two wives; when one of them is happy, the other one becomes angry.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:318]
Awn Bin Abdillaah (rahimahullaah) said:
”The worldly life and the afterlife in the heart are like the two equal sides of a scale; and in estimation of the heaviness of one of them, the other one becomes lighter. ”[Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page: 318]
Al-Hasan (rahimahullaah) said:
”The Zaahid (i.e. the one who abandons the permissible but unnecessary things of the worldly things) is the one who when he sees someone, he says: ”He is more virtuous than me.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:308-309]
Abu Dardaa (radiyallaahu-anhu) said:
”I utter ”Allaahu Akbar” a hundred times is more beloved to me than giving a hundred Deenaar in charity” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:256]
It was said to Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullaah): Indeed, the people say that ”Whoever testifies that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah will enter paradise”; so he (i.e. Al-Hasan) said: ”Whoever testifies that none has the right to worshipped except Allaah and then he fulfills its rights and obligations, he will enter paradise”. [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: 224]
It was said to Al-Wahb Ibn Munabbih (rahimahullaah): ”Is not the testimony that ‘none has the right to be worshipped except Alllaah’ the key to paradise? He said: ‘Certainly, but there is not a key except that it has teeth; so if you come with a key that has teeth, it will open for you, otherwise it will not open for you.’ [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:224]
Shameet Bin Ajlaan (rahimahullaah) said:
”O son of Aadam: Indeed, you do not keep silent except that you are safe; but be careful when you do speak, because it will either be for you or against you.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:144]
Sahl Bin Abdillaah As-Tustaree (rahimahullaah) said:
”The one who speaks about that which does not concern him will be prevented from being truthful.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: page:124]
It was said to Sad Ibn Abee Waqqaas (radiyallaahu-anhu): ”Amongst the companions of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) your supplication is answered?” He said: ”I have never put a morsel of (food) in my mouth, except that I knew where it came from and where it originated.” [Jaami-ul Iloom Wal-Hikam: page: 115]
Fudayl Ibn Iyaad (rahimahullaah) said:
”We do not recognize one (merely) due to his accomplishment of a lot of prayers and fasting; rather what is recognizable to us are generosity, guilelessness and being good natured, and to give sincere advice to the Ummah.” [Jaami-ul Uloom Wal-Hikam: Page: 91]
Abdullaah Ibnul Mubaarak (rahimahullaah) said:
”An action may be small, but it is magnified by the intention (behind it); and it may be that an action is big, but it is made small by the intention (behind it)” [Jaami-ul Uloom wal-hikam: page:16]
