Our Salaf: Taawoos Ibnu Kaysaan

Ibraaheem Ibn Maysarah (rahimahullaah) said:

Taawoos (rahimahullaah) said to me: You either get married or else I will say to you what Umar Ibnul Khattaab (radiyallaahu-anhu) said to Abee Zawaa-id: Nothing prevents you from marriage except impotency or evil deeds. [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 4/6]

Ibn Taawoos narrated from his father (Taawoos) who said:

Miserliness is that a person is miserly with what he has in his hand; and greediness is that a man loves to have what people have in their hands through unlawful means. He is not contented. [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 4/6]

Our Salaf- Ash-shabee

Abee Jaabiyah Al-Firaa’ee (rahimahullaah) narrated from Ash-shabee (rahimahullaah) who said: Indeed, we are not learnt men of understanding; rather we listen to hadeeth and transmit it. But the learnt men of understanding are those who act after knowing. [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa: 4/303]

Maalik Bin Maghool (rahimahullaah) said: It was said to Shabee (rahimahullaah): ” scholar”. He said: The scholar is the one who fears Allaah. [Hilyatul awliyaa: 4/311]

Abee Ishaaq (rahimahullaah) narrated from Ash-shabee (rahimahullaah) who said: ”None abandons something of the worldly life for the sake of Allaah, except that Allaah will grant him what is better for him in the afterlife. [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 4/312]

Our Salaf–Masrooq

Masrooq Ibn Ajda-i (rahimahullaah) said:

”In reality, a person should have secluded sittings in which he remembers his sins and then seeks Allaah’s Forgiveness.” [Tabaqaat Ibn Sad: 6/80]

From Ibraaheem Bin Muhammad Al-Muntashir (rahimahullaah) that Masrooq (rahimahullaah) said: ”There is not anything better for the believer than Allaah’s legislated boundaries of the lawful and unlawful; for indeed it is a source of peace of mind from the distress of the worldly life and a safety from the punishment of Allaah. [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 2/97]
