Severity of Seeking the Dunya with Righteous Actions – Shaykh Rabee Al-Madkhalee

‎مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَزِينَتَہَا نُوَفِّ إِلَيۡہِمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ فِيہَا وَهُمۡ فِيہَا لَا يُبۡخَسُونَ (١٥) أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَيۡسَ لَهُمۡ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ إِلَّا ٱلنَّارُ‌ۖ وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُواْ فِيہَا وَبَـٰطِلٌ۬ مَّا ڪَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ (١٦)

Whosoever desires the life of the world and its glitter; to them We shall pay in full (the wages of) their deeds therein, and they will have no diminution therein.They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but Fire; and vain are the deeds they did therein. And of no effect is that which they used to do. (Hud: 15-16)

Shaykh Rabee ibn Haadi Al-Madkhalee (Hafidahullah) said:

Some of the Imams said: Indeed, carrying out deeds for the sake of the worldly life is greater [sin] and more dangerous than riyaa [showing off]- because a Muslim can be exposed to riyaa sometimes; as for a person whose habitual [aim] is to [receive] the worldly things and its adornments, then this is grave destruction, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought.

This is a type of shirk [related to the performance of] righteous deeds, which negates ikhlaas [sincerity]. Ibn Abbas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] explained this as: an individual prays, fasts and stands in the night prayer, whilst desiring the worldly [gains] by way of that- desiring status. All of this is [considered to be] worldly goals; If a person intent [is to receive these worldly things] by way of his worship, then indeed he has fallen into a bottomless pit of destruction, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought.

Just as Allaah has threatened nullification of the deeds and [promised] a severe torment for the one who seeks nearness to Allaah outwardly with righteous deeds, whilst desiring the worldly things by way of that.

Therefore, take a severe warning regarding those deeds legislated by Allaah through which nearness to Allaah is sought outwardly, whilst the basis of one’s intent behind those deeds is only [to achieve] those worthless [worldly] goals – because in the Sight of Allaah the worldly life is not even equal to the weight of a mosquitoe’s wing.

Therefore, how can one make the religion a means to an end to receive these goals and lowly objectives.

Likewise, Allah says in other Aayaat -such as in Soorah Ash-Shoora-:

‎مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرۡثَ ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ نَزِدۡ لَهُ ۥ فِى حَرۡثِهِۦ‌ۖ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرۡثَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا نُؤۡتِهِۦ مِنۡہَا وَمَا لَهُ ۥ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
‎مِن نَّصِيبٍ (٢٠)

Whosoever desires (by his deeds) the reward of the Hereafter, We give him increase in his reward, and whosoever desires the reward of this world (by his deeds), We give him thereof (what is decreed for him), and he has no portion in the Hereafter. (Ash-Shoora: 20)

This Aayah applies to the disbelievers first and foremost, and it applies to the hypocrites and the people of riya [i.e. the show offs], those who do not desire from their deeds and [outward adherence to] Islam, except the worldly things and its adornments, and Allaah’s refuge is sought.

The Aayaat regarding this [affair] are many, which clarify what negates sincerity to Allaah in the Religion, [The Blessed and Most High], in Aqeedah and worship.

Two Sources of Wealth By Which One Does Not Fear Poverty – Abu Haazim (rahimahullah)

It was said to Abu Haazim (rahimahullaah):

What is your wealth? He said: I have two (sources) of wealth by way of which I cannot fear poverty, reliance upon Allaah and not being desperate for what people possess. It was said to him: ‘’Do you not fear poverty? He said: ‘’should I fear poverty when my Protector (Allaah) owns what is in the heavens and the earth, and all that is under the soil?!’’

Can We Say “A Particular Dead Person Has Been Forgiven” or “Granted Mercy” – Permanent Committee Of Scholars

Question: Is it permissible for a person to say about a dead person, “Fulaan [i.e. such and such] is Marhoom [i.e. he has been forgiven or bestowed with mercy] or my father is Marhoom [i.e. he has been forgiven or bestowed with mercy]?”

Answer: The statement Al-Marhoom [i.e. the one forgiven or bestowed with mercy] is not permissible to be uttered about a dead person, rather it is to be said: ‘’Rahimahullaah [may Allaah have mercy upon him]- because the first statement [i.e. al-Marhoom] is information given by the speaker whilst he is not aware of the true state of affairs [of the dead person], rather Allaah is the [only] One who knows about it.

Supplicate To Allah In Times of Ease And He Will Answer In Times Of Difficulty

Abu Ad-Dardaa [radiyallaahu-anhu] said:

Supplicate to Allaah in your times of ease and He will answer your supplication in your times of difficulty.”  A man said to him, ‘’Advise me.” So he said to him, ‘’Remember Allaah in times of ease and He [The Mighty and Majestic] will remember you when you are in difficulty.”

Ruling on Visiting The Prophet’s Masjid in the Month of Rajab – Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullah) said:

Some of the people believe that visiting the prophets masjid in (the month of) Rajab has great virtue and they devote themselves to it and they call this visit, “Az-Ziyaaratul Rajbiyyah”, and this is an innovation with no basis.

And the predecessors did not speak about this until after the third generation. Because from the apparent this came about very late, so it is an innovation.

However whoever visits Madeenah in Rajab, not because it is Rajab, then there is no sin upon him. However if he believes that visiting in Rajab has virtue then indeed he has been unsuccessful (in his action) (1) and has gone astray. And he is from the people of innovation. (2)

Specifying the Month of Rajab for Worship – Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen

What is the ruling on specifying the Month of Rajab for Umrah, or Fasting or any other righteous actions? And does it have a distinction over the rest of the Sacred Months?

There is no distinction for the Month of Rajab over the rest of the Sacred Months, and it is not to be specified:

Not for umrah, nor fasting , nor prayer and it with reciting of the Quraan, rather it is like the rest of the Sacred Months.

And all the reported narrations regarding the virtue of prayer in it (Rajab), or fasting in it, indeed they are weak, and legislated ruling is not founded on it.

Explaining Sufi Doubts Abouts Graves in Masjids – Shaykh Alee Nasir (Hafidahullah)

Shaykh Alee Naasir Al-Faqeehi (hafidahullah) was approached by questioners at the end of his advice to those who come to the Prophets Mosque, regarding guidelines of how to give salaams upon the prophet, and the inhabitants of Al-Baqee (cemetery next to the Prophets Masjid) and clarifying the doubt spread by the soofis that the prophets grave is in the Masjid.

A man from Algeria came to the Shaykh and was genuinely confused and wanted clarification; the Shaykh (hafidahullah) exemplified the manners of a Scholar and a person of knowledge, in his dealing with the man.

He continued to explain and speak to him in a kind, gentle manner, explaining with evidences and proofs until the questioner was enlightened and the doubt had been removed from him.

We ask Allah to preserve the Shaykh and make his deeds heavy on his scales of good.

Advice For Those Who Come on Umrah – Shaykh Alee Naasir Al-Faqeehi (hafidahullah)

Shaykh Alee Naasir Al-Faqeehi (hafidahullah) gave an advice at the end of his lesson to all those who had come on umrah and may come again for umrah or hajj in the future.

He said that they should exert themselves and strive in the righteous actions, the dhikr of Allah, praying at the Kaba (100,000 times reward), the Prophet’s Mosque (1,000 times reward), perform supererogatory prayers, recite the Quran, and know that every letter has ten good deeds and I don’t say that a letter is Alif Laam Mim; rather 10 good deeds for Alif.

He continued to say that he has seen many people who have come to visit Makkah or Madinah talking and speaking about the dunya and not utilising the short time they have here.

Take advantage of your time in Makkah and Madinah.

False Accusation- A Severe Threat against its Perpetrators!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Whoever accuses a believer of something that is not true, Allaah will make him dwell in flowing pus on the Day of Judgement. [Saheeh Al-Jaami]

Repentance from sins committed against oneself and others

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said:

Know that Allaah’s Mercy is extensive and His Kindness is tremendous, and that He is [الجواد – (The Munificent, Bountiful); الكريم (The Bountiful, The Generous One Abundant in Good)][Ref 1]. He is the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy and the best of all those who forgive [Glorified and Exalted be He]. And know that also to have (the audacity to commit acts of) disobedience is a great evil, a great corruption and a cause of (incurring) the anger of Allaah; but when a servant repents to his Lord –a truthful repentance-Allaah accepts his repentance. Indeed, the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) was asked many times about a man who (committed) a lot of such and such faults, (acts) of disobedience and various types of kufr, and then he repents; so Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’Repentance wipes away what was (committed) before it (i.e. sins)’’ and ‘’Islaam (i.e. when a person abandons kufr and becomes a Muslim) wipes away what was (committed) before it (i.e. sins).’’ Therefore, you should know -with certainty- that by way of truthful sincere repentance, Allaah wipes away sins and evil deeds, even kufr. And because of this Allaah [Glorified Be He] said:

[وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ – And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. [24:31] So He (Allaah) connected success to repentance.

Allaah (Glorified Be He) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَّصُوحًا عَسَى رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ

”O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) [66:8]

Therefore, O brother! Truthful repentance is (incumbent) upon you- cling to it; be firm upon it and be sincere to Allaah in that. And (receive) glad tidings that it wipes away your sins, even if they are like a mountain.

The conditions (to be fulfilled in order for repentance to be accepted are) three: [1] To be regretful and remorseful regarding the past (acts of disobedience you committed); [2] To renounce and abandon the sins – the big and small (of them); [3] To have a firm resolve (or determination) not to return to it (i.e. not to commit them again). If you owe the people their rights- wealth or (you committed offences related to blood-shed, murder or causing injury etc) or violating their honour, then their rights must be given back to them. This is a fourth affair related to a complete repentance. It is incumbent upon you to give the people the rights they are owed. If the affair is related to retribution, then retribution is established (i.e. by the state), unless they (i.e. the people) permit that you give blood money; if related to wealth, you give them back their wealth, unless they forgive; if related to their honour and you did backbite them, you should seek their forgiveness; but if seeking their forgiveness will lead to evil, then there is no hindrance in refraining from (informing them that you did backbite them and that you seek their forgiveness); rather you should supplicate for them and seek Allaah’s forgiveness for them, and mention the good you know about them in the same place you did mention them with evil. This will be expiation for (that sin of backbiting). And it is incumbent upon you to proceed –without delay- towards repentance before death, and then exercise patience and be truthful. Allaah (Glorified and Exalted Be He) said:

وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُواْ فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُواْ أَنْفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُواْ اللّهَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُواْ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَن يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ اللّهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّواْ عَلَى مَا فَعَلُواْ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

”And those who, when they have committed Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse etc.) or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and none can forgive sins but Allah – And do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know. [3:135]

(So) understand the meaning of the (statement): وَلَمْ يُصِرُّواْ  – And do not persist in what (wrong)]- this means that they do not persist in sin, rather they repent, show regret and abandon the (sin) they committed; and they know [i.e. that persistence in sin is harmful, or that Allaah forgives the one who repents (Ref 2)]

Then Allaah [Glorified Be He] said:

أُوْلَئِكَ جَزَآؤُهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَجَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَنِعْمَ أَجْرُ الْعَامِلِينَ

For such, the reward is Forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders). [3:136].  This is the reward for those who repent and do not persist in (sin)- for them the reward is paradise. [Ref 3]

The Best Supplication for Seeking Forgiveness

The Supplication in Arabic:

 اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ

أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ

O Allaah, You are my Lord! There is no one who has the right to be worshipped except you. You created me and I am your slave, and I am (sincere) to my covenant and promise (to You) as much as I am able. I seek refuge with You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge in your presence all the blessings You have granted me, and I confess to You my sins. So forgive me, for indeed none is able to forgive (a slave his) sins, except You.’’ [Ref Bukhaari Hadeeth Number:Number:6306] [Ref 4]

The Ulama Are Agreed Upon the Fact that the khawaarij Are An Evil People…..By Imaam Al-Aajurree

Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] said:

By Allaah the Ummah will not exit from its problems, the humiliation and degradation they are living in, except by way of returning to the Book of Allaah, the Sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam] and the understanding of the Salafus Saalih in [dealing with] the affairs of the khawaarij and others. Imaam Al-Aajurree [rahimahullaah] said: “The scholars do not differ–past and present–that the khawaarij are an evil people, disobedient to Allaah and His Messenger, even if they [perform] the prayer, fast and strive in [carrying out] acts of worship.
