Saying “I Don’t Understand” – Shaykh Uthaymeen

When an Aalim is asked a question it’s befitting that the student of knowledge attentively listens to him and correctly understands the answer. Some students, if they ask a question and are answered, you find him shy to say, “I don’t understand”.

That which is better for a student of knowledge if he doesn’t understand is to say “I don’t understand”, and he should say it respectfully and with good manner towards the scholar.

Oh Muslims, Give Concern and Time to Studying the Qurān – Al-Imām ibn Kathīr

Al-Imām ibn Kathīr quotes and says in his Tafsīr of the Qurān:

(And remember) when Allāh took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) to make it (the news of the coming of Prophet Muhammad (sallallāhu alaihi wa salam)  and the religious knowledge) known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it, but they threw it away behind their backs, and purchased with it some miserable gain! And indeed worst is that which they bought. ((Aali Imrān:187)

Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allāh’s Covenant and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter (Paradise). Neither will Allāh speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful torment. (Aali Imrān: 77)

Allah has censured the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) due to their turning away and abandoning their revealed books; likewise they have been censured for devoting themselves (primarily) to (attaining the pleasures of) the worldly life and preoccupying themselves with other than what they have been commanded with – following the revelation (which was revealed to them).

So upon us, oh Muslims, is to refrain from those (aforementioned) affairs which caused Allāh to censure the People of the Book.

We should fulfil that which we have been commanded with. We should (pay attention and give concern to) studying the Book of Allāh, (which was revealed to us) teach it, understand it and teach its understanding (to others), Allāh said:

Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh – Islamic Monotheism) to be affected by Allāh’s Reminder (this Quran), and that which has been revealed of the truth, lest they become as those who received the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injīl (Gospel)] before (i.e. Jews and Christians), and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? And many of them were Fāsiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allāh). [Al-Hadīd:16]

Fajr Is Still Very Early! -[Fiqh Derived From a Hadeeth About Using An (Alarm) Clock to Help Us Wake Up etc]

It is reported in a hadeeth in Muwatta Imaam Maalik that the Messenger (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam) travelled by night on the way back from khaybar and towards the end of the night he stopped for a rest and said to Bilaal (radiyallaahu-anhu), “(Stay awake) to watch out for the morning (prayer) for us…..’’ [Ref 1]

Shaikh Muhammad Baazmool  (may Allaah preserve him) said, “What is the evidence behind the permissibility for a person -before he (or she) sleeps- to watch out for the time by way of (an alarm) clock in order to be notified of (the time of the Salaah)? The evidence is that the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) sought from Bilaal (radiyallaahu-anhu) to guard the time for them, saying,”(Stay awake) to watch out for the morning (prayer) for us”. [Ref 2]

Ruling on following the legislated concessions – Shaykh Fawzaan

Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan was asked about those who follow the legislated Islamic concessions?

The religion is an amaanah- an amaanah between the slave and his Lord. It’s obligatory that he performs it (the religious duties) as Allah and his messenger have commanded. Whoever performs the obligations, leaves off the prohibited affairs, (does) that which he is able from the mustahabbaat (recommended actions) and abandons the makroohaat (disliked affairs), this is the amaanah between the slave and his lord.

The concessions are only allowed when there is a need and necessity (to utilize) them. Utilize them in accordance with necessity- with a need for the concession. Just like the sick person combines between two prayers, performs tayyamum if he cannot use water for purification and doesn’t fast in Ramadhaan, and a traveller shortens the prayers- this is a religious concession used at the time of its requirement.

As for using concessions in other than their correct place,(i.e. situation) then this is not permissible. Allah did not permit that for him (in such situation). Indeed He (Allaah) only placed the concessions at specified times and situations, and they are not used in other than these (times and situations).  Therefore it is obligated on the Muslim that he fears Allah and that he establishes that which Allah has obligated on him. Allowance of Eating During Day in Ramadhaan When Breaking Fast Due to A Legislated Reason – Shaykh Uthaymeen

Question: Is it allowed for the one who breaks his fast during the day in Ramadhan due to a legislated sharia excuse to (continue) eating and drinking for the rest of the day?

Shaykh Uthaymeen  answered:

It is permissible for him to eat and drink because he broke his fast due to a legislated sharia reason. If he breaks the fast due to a legislated sharia reason, then the prohibition from eating on that day ceases in his case, and it becomes permissible for him to eat and drink; as opposed to the man who breaks his fast without a (legislated shiria reason), for indeed we make it binding on him to refrain (from food and drink), even if it is binding on him to make it up (as well). Therefore, it is obligatory to pay attention to the difference between these two affairs.

What should I do? I did not complete the Final Tasha-hud…. [Imaam Bin Baaz]

Question:

It is well known that the Final Tasha-hud is a pillar from the pillars of prayer; and in one of the prayers I did not complete except a little bit of the Tasha-hud, so should I repeat my prayer?

Answer:

It is upon you to complete the Tasha-hud, even if you missed some (of it whilst praying with) your Imaam (i.e. the one leading you in Salaah); because according to the most correct saying (or view) of the scholars the Final Tasha-hud is a pillar (of the prayer), and there is the Salutation upon the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) in it. Therefore, it is obligatory to complete it even after the Imaam’s Salaam (i.e. after he finishes the prayer). And from it (i.e. the Tasha-hud) is seeking Allaah’s protection from the Hell fire, the punishment of the grave and from the trials of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjaaj; because the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) commanded with seeking (Allaah’s) protection from these four (things) in the Final Tasha-hud, and that is because some of the people of knowledge consider that to be an obligation.
