Taqwa can be Attained by Fasting – Imām as-Sa’di

Imām as-Sa’di (rahimahullāh) said in explanation of Allāh’s statement:

‎{ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ }
That you may become al-Muttaqūn [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)]. Al-Baqarah: 183

Verily, fasting is from the greatest causes (of attaining) taqwa, because (fasting has within it) obeying the commands of Allah and staying away from his prohibitions.

Benefits of Fasting in Relation to Taqwa.

  •  The fasting person leaves that which Allāh has prohibited for him – from eating, drinking and sexual intercourse and the likes of these affairs which the soul inclines towards – seeking closeness to Allah and hoping in reward from Allāh because of his leaving off these things; this is from taqwa.
  •  Likewise from the means of attaining taqwa is, the fasting person trains his soul with the murāqabah of Allāh, so he leaves performing that which his soul desires – whilst he has the capability to carry out his desires – due to his knowledge that Allāh is all aware of what he does.
  •  Fasting constricts the pathways of the shaytān, for indeed he runs through the veins of mankind, hence by way of fasting his influence is weakened and his effectiveness in inciting people to disobedience is decreased.
  •  On the whole the fasting person is plentiful in performing acts of worship and obedience. Acts of worship and obedience are from the characteristics of taqwa.
  • And from the means of attaining taqwa, is that the rich person when he tastes the pains of hunger, this necessitates and obligates that he is charitable and benevolent to the poor and destitute, this is also from the characteristics of taqwa.

The Wisdom Behind Fasting – Shaykh al-‘Uthaymīn (rahimahullāh)

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Sālih al ‘Uthaymīn (rahimahullāh) said,

The wisdom behind fasting is not that a person merely prevents himself from the grace of Allāh (‘azza wa jal), such as food, drink and sexual relations; however the wisdom behind fasting is something greater than that, it is (that you attain) the taqwa of Allāh, as Allāh (tabāraka wa ta’āla) said when he mentioned the obligation of fasting

‎[البقرة:183] ‎{ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ }

That you may become al-Muttaqūn [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)]. Al-Baqarah: 183

Protect Yourself from Allāh’s Anger and Displeasure – Shaykh ‘Abdur Razzāq al-Badr

Shaykh ‘Abdur Razzāq al-Badr (hafidahullāh) said,

The taqwa of Allāh is to obey Him, adhere to His commandments and abstain from His prohibitions.

The meaning of taqwa, is that the servant places a barrier between him and between that which he fears. And the taqwa of a servant in relation to his Lord, is that he places between him and his Lord a barrier that protects him from that which he is scared of, from Allah’s anger, displeasure and punishment.

And that is not achieved except by the performance of acts of obedience and refraining from acts of disobedience.

Making up a Fast, then Broke it Intentionally – Shaykh bin Baz (rahimahullah)

Shaykh bin Baz (rahimahullah) was asked:

One day I was making up an obligatory fast and after Dhuhr I felt hungry, so I ate and I drank intentionally and not out of forgetfulness, what is the ruling on this?

Obligatory upon you is to complete the fast, it is not permissible to break the fast if the fast was an obligatory one, such as making up a fast from Ramadhaan or a fast which you vowed to perform, upon you is to repent from what you have done and whoever repents (sincerely), Allah accepts their repentance.

Manchester Ramadhaan and Eid: A Community Upon the Manhaj of the Salaf, Striving Hard

All Praise is to Allah, who blessed us today, with an excellent turnout at the Eid Prayer once again; and it is Allah that facilitates all means to good.

The Masjid would like to thank those who facilitated this Sunnah for “Whoever does not thanked the people will not thanked Allah” (authenticated by Shaykh Albani). May Allah bless and reward them all.

We are fortunate, by the fadl of Allah, to have such dedicated and hardworking brothers and sisters; who are always sacrificing themselves and their time to serve the community.

The good deeds done are written by Allah and he knows their number. But we hope to give an idea as to the lengths some of the volunteers go to.

During Ramadhaan, we had brothers clearing and cleaning the masjid. Families providing food and drink for those opening their fast and working to keep the masjid clear from smells and distraction. Further more during the Tarawee’ prayer (a busy time indeed) then a rotor of brothers took it in turns, to take care of the cars, of those taking part in the prayer.

Moving on to the Eid prayer setup; then some of our sisters took part in raising some funds to prepare custom goody bags to make the day special. Packing them at their houses completing the affair with one of our families completing the packing then delivering them to the masjid.

Everyone was able to enjoy the atmosphere this morning at the park. But even this setup required efforts. The night before brothers came to the masjid early. They cleaned up and prepared all the equipment needed for Eid prayer outside. Even in this instance many of the rolls we have laid out have been donated by a group of brothers, and the van used was also lent to us for Allahs sake.

Finally in the morning whilst many were still sleeping or relaxing; others set off early, to setup for anyone attending be prayer; some leaving or making arrangements for their families to come afterwards, others rushing home to collect their families in between.

Our aim here is not to count deed; for indeed the deeds done are numerous and Allah the most just is the one who rewards his slaves. However what we can do is appreciate such (invisible) deeds, and efforts made in the organisation of such an event.

And there is no doubt other Salafi Maraakiz around the country will have similar tales of sacrifice and effort- some of which we have read already from the likes of Al Baseerah, Salafi Publications, Markaz Muaadh and others. No doubt this is a sign of love for this blessed da’wa, and brings immense happiness to our hearts

We hope to see everyone tonight, in happiness and bliss, gathered with their brothers and sisters for Allah’s sake on this wonderful day.

تقبل الله منا ومنكم

Taqaballallahu minna wa minkum.
May Allaah accept from us and from you (Aameen).

Distanced From Hell For a Distance of 70yrs For Fasting a Single Day With Ikhlaas!

Narrated Abu Sa’eed (radiyallaahu-anhu): I heard the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) saying, ”Whoever observes Sawm (fast) for one day in Allaah’s Cause (to seek His good pleasure), Allaah will keep his face away from (hell) fire (a distance covered by a journey of ) seventy years”.
