Khalaf Bin Tameem (rahimahullaah) said: I saw Ath-Thawree (i.e. Sufyaan) at Makkah and many (people gathered around him or came to him); so he said: To Allaah do we belong, I fear that Allaah has made this Ummah to be lost when the people are in need of the likes of me. [Siyar 7/275]
And whenever he (rahimahullaah) was told that he has been seen in a dream, he would say: I know myself more than those who see me in a dream. [Siyar 7/252]
Abdur-Rahmaan bin Abee Layla (rahimahullaah) said: I have met a hundred and twenty companions of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) in this Masjid and not a single one of them would be asked about a hadeeth, except he wished that his brother would suffice him in (answering). Then the affair came under the commission of a people, who claimed knowledge at present,–they give answers in affairs which if presented to Umar Ibnul Khattaab (radiyallaahu-anhu), he would have gathered the (Sahaabah of) Badr to consult them. [Sharhus Sunnah of Imaam Al-Baghawee: 1/305]

Ibn Rajab (rahimahullaah) stated: The people of innovation and misguidance—whoever (seeks) to resemble the scholars and is not from them, then it is permissible to clarify their ignorance and manifest their blame worthy (affairs), as a warning against following them.
Ustaadh Abdul Waahid (Abu Khadeejah) will deliver a lecture tonight @Masjid Salafi (Birmingham) after Salaatul Maghrib UK time. This lecture will be a clarification of the statements and stances of the scholars towards Yahyhah Al-Hajoori Al-Haddaadi Al-Mubtadi (may Allaah return him to correctness).
Imaam Al’Awzaaee (rahimahullaah) said: Abstinence from the worldly life is to forsake praise and to perform actions whilst not wanting the praise of the people. [Musannaf Ib Abee Shaybah:7/214]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) stated about Imaam Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sadi (rahimahullaah):
He used to be a person with a lot of fiqh and concern for knowledge of the correct positions in the issues (in which) the scholars held a difference of opinion with evidence. He gave great concern to the books of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Tamiyyah and his student Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahumallaah). He used to give preference to that which was established with evidence. He used to speak very little, except if it was in that which was beneficial. I sat with him on more than one occasion in Makkah and Riyaad–his speech was little except in the affairs of knowledge. He used to be humble and well-mannered, and whoever reads his books will know of his virtue, knowledge and great concern for (seeking) after proofs. So may Allaah shower great mercy upon him.

Question:
Virtuous Shaikh May Allaah grant you success; some of the people ask me about the Islamic groups present in this era, what should I do—should I give them an answer or direct them to the scholars, bearing in mind that I am a teacher in one of the schools?
Answer:
Direct them to what has been transmitted in the Ahaadeeth and it is his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement: ‘’This Ummah will split into seventy three sects and all of them are in the fire except one; so it was said: ‘’which one is it O Messenger of Allaah? He said: ‘’Those who are upon the likes of that which I and my companions are upon today’’. Direct them to this hadeeth, and say: Those who are upon that which the Messenger and his companions were upon—they are Ahlus Sunnah al-Jamaa-ah. Those who oppose them are the ones promised the hell-fire, (regardless) of whatever name they are called. It is not incumbent upon you (to know) their names, (rather) what is important (to know) are (their) opposition to the methodology of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa-ah which the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and his companions were upon. Yes.
