Ruling Upon the One Who Attends a “Prophet’s Birthday” Event or Party – Ibn Baz

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The time of year is upon us where those with a restricted share of knowledge from the Qur’an and Sunnah, upon the methodology of the Salaf of this Ummah, find themselves engaged in acts of “love” for the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم – and yet in reality they are barren and void of any true love. They find themselves conducting marches, food festivals and other affairs claiming guidance within their activities, and in reality no revelation ever descended upon its validity.

Shaikh bin Baz رحمه الله was asked the following, “What is the ruling on the “prophet’s birthday”? And what is the ruling upon the one who attends it? And is the one who does it and dies upon that state [not having repented] punished?”

Regarding birthdays, then there is nothing in the legislation that indicates they should be celebrated, neither the “birthday” of the prophet صلى الله عليه  و سلم  or other than him. That which we know from the pure legislation and what the people of knowledge have established is that celebrating birthdays is an innovation – there is no doubt in that. Since the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم who was the greatest in his advice to the people, and the most knowledgable regarding the legislation of Allah and the one who preached and spread it, did not celebrate his “birthday” and nor did the companions, neither Abu Bakr, Umar, ‘Uthman, ‘Ali رضي الله عنهم or other than them.

So if this was correct and a sunnah they would have hastened to doing it, and the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم himself would not have left it, rather he would have done it himself صلى الله عليه و سلم and taught us to do it, and the companions would have done it…but since they all left it and did not do it, then we know with certainty this is not from the legislation. Similarly the righteous Salaf did not do it, and so it becomes clear this is an innovation and indeed the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said translated, “Whomsoever introduces something into our religion that which is not from it will have it rejected”.

Therefore celebration of the “prophet’s birthday” in Rabee’ ul-Awwal [an islamic month] or in other months [since it is not established the exact date!], similarly other celebrations such as birthdays of al-Badawy or of al-Husain – all are reviled innovations and it is upon the people of Islam to abandon them. Instead Allah سبحانه و تعالى has bestowed upon us ‘Eid ul-Fitr and ‘Eid ul-Adha as the days of legislated celebration.

It is not a demonstration of love to the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم in celebrating the “birthday”, rather the true love of the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم necessitates following him and clinging to his Sunnah, and defending it, and calling to it, and being upright upon it…this is the true love, as Allah سبحانه و تعالى stated in Surah Ale ‘Imran: 31, the meaning of which is, “Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Quran and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

As for the individual being punished or not [the one who participates and dies upon that state], then that affair is with Allah. However, innovations and sins are from the means that lead to punishment, so a person may be punished due to his sin or he may be pardoned by Allah, the individual is under the command of Allah”.

Imaam goes to ruku before I finish recitation of soorah Al-Faatiha…Shaikh Saaleh Aala Shaikh

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

If the Imaam goes to Ruku before those praying behind him finish recitation of Soorah Faatihah, do they go into ruku or complete its recitation?

Answer: Indeed, this (affair) is based on the research concerning whether recitation of Soorah Faatihah is obligatory upon those praying behind the Imaam or whether the (obligation of reciting faatihah is carried out) by the Imaam (on behalf of those praying behind him).  That which the majority of the people of knowledge say–the majority of the Sahaabah (radiyallaahu-anhum), as Shaikh Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah and a group of the people of knowledge attributed to them is that the (obligation) of reciting Faatihah in the loud prayer is carried out by the Imaam on behalf of those praying behind him.  So if this is the case, then those praying behind the Imaam do not have to recite Faatihah according to this (statement/opinion); and if they recite some of it (i.e. in the instance where they are unable to finish it before the Imaam goes into ruku etc), then that would be sufficient.

The second saying or view is that which a number of the scholars of research hold to be preponderant and it is that recitation of Faatihah is waajib upon the Imaam and those praying behind the Imaam or that it is a pillar (of the prayer).  And the evidence for this is the statement of the [Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) that Allaah said]: I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.  When the servant says:  All praise belongs to Allaah the Rabb of all the . Worlds…..to the end of the hadeeth

.The name ‘Prayer’ given to Surah Al-Faatihah shows that it is a pillar within the prayer

Likewise is the statement of Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam): ”Perhaps you were reciting behind your imam?” We said: ”Yes, that is so, O Messenger of Allaah.” He said: “Do not do that, except for the Opening of the Book -al’ faatiha- for there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it.  This shows the obligation of reciting Faatihah and based upon this statement or view, the performer of the prayer goes along with what is possible and what he is able with regards to following the Imaam.  So if he is able to recite some of the (aayaat) of Faatihah, he is excused from the rest of it when the Imaam pronounces the Takbeer (i.e. when the Imaam pronounces the takbeer before going into ruku).  Therefore, it has occurred to you according to one of these statements or views  that the one praying behind the Imaam

is obligated to follow the Imaam when he goes into ruku, and he should leave recitation of  Faatihah

because the Imaam has moved onto another pillar and that is the Ruku.

Kuffaar know the importance of stability, why listen to them when they provoke us against our Muslim Rulers

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Al-Allaamah Al-Izz Bin Abdis Salaam (rahimahullaah) said: Had it not been for the appointment of a ruler, the beneficial universal affairs would have been lost, universal corruption would have become the reality, the strong would have overcome the weak and the (immoral) lowly ones would have overcome the noble (mannered) ones.

Shaikh Abdus-Salaam Burgess (rahimahullaah) said: The explanation of this is that the majority of the children of Adam are inclined towards injustice and love of vengeance.  And had it not been that there was a ruler who administers their affairs, they would have become like the beasts of the wild and fish of the sea—the strong eats the weak. Can I search through My Children’s Phone and Computer? Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

This article was forwarded to us by Ustaadh Abdul Waahid (Abu Khadeejah) via WhatsApp and the translator is Ustaadh Hassan Somali (may Allaah preserve them)

Noble Shaykh-may Allaah grant you success-the questioner asks: ”Is it permissible for me as a parent to search through the mobile and computer of my children, fearing that there may be something upon them?

The Shaykh responded:

”Yes, this is obligatory upon you.  It is [mandatory] that you inspect them and look through them.  How many times have I mentioned to you that you should not buy them mobile phones that have the capability to do more than [make a call] and speak on them…..”

The questioner said, may Allaah preserve you: ‘’some people say that this type of behaviour on behalf of the father is deemed spying, which has been prohibited.  Is there any truth to this statement?

The Shaykh responded: ‘’This speech is false and erroneous.  The parent is commanded to nurture and educate their children, supervise them and to monitor them.  It is compulsory for them to do this, and this is not considered to be spying.  This is fulfilling the mandatory duty that Allaah has placed upon him….’’

Neither did it benefit Abu Taalib nor will it benefit the orientalists…Al-Allaamah Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaami

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

To know who the Messenger is:

It is that you love him more than yourself, your family and wealth.  It is obligatory upon the students of knowledge to know that everyone else loved for the sake of Allaah; but Allaah is not loved (for the sake of anyone else).  Everyone else who is loved, starting with the Messenger first and foremost, then such a (person) is to be loved for the sake of Allaah.  And for that reason if loving the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) is not (done) for the sake of Allaah, such as (loving him only) due to kinship or that he is a genius, (this) will not benefit (a person).  This love did not benefit Abu Taalib and it will not benefit those orientalists who held him in high esteem because he is a genius in history and not that he is a Messenger of Allaah.  It is obligatory upon the students of knowledge to be conscious of this.   [Abridged: Sharh Thalaatha Al-Usool: page: 22]

Search and Benefit from the lectures of This Noble Ethiopian Scholar

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him and prolong his life upon goodness) said:

What I know of the Shaikh Muhammad Amaan (rahimahullaah): Indeed, the seekers of knowledge and the carriers of various lofty certificates are many; but few amongst them benefit from their knowledge and are benefitted from, and Shaikh Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaami is from those rare and few ones; from those scholars who are well grounded in their knowledge and efforts with regards to benefitting the Muslims and guiding them through calling to Allaah upon clear-sightedness; and  by way of his teaching in the Islamic University and in the noble Masjid of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam); and by way of his tours of the foreign Islamic lands and his tours within the kingdom (of Saudi Arabia) to deliver lessons and lectures in the different districts–calling to Tawheed, disseminating the correct Aqeedah, directing the youth of the Ummah to the methodology of the pious predecessors and warning against the destructive ideologies and the misguided calls.  And whoever does not know him personally will know him by way of his beneficial books and tapes which contains plentiful knowledge and benefit.’’ [End of quote. I [Abu Mu-aawiyyah (Abdullaah Al-Gambi)] have been informed more than once by my companion and colleague Ustaadh Abu Tasneem [Mushaf Al-Banghaalee (may Allaah preserve him)], who was a close friend and companion of Ustaadh Abu Talhah Dawud Burbank (may Allaah grant him and his wife Jannah), that he asked Dawud, saying: ”which scholar did you benefit from the most whilst you were in Saudi?”  He (Dawud) said: ”Shaikh Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaami”

Benefits from Shaykh Hasan Marzooq Al-Banna -حفظه الله-

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

السلام عليكم

Inshaa Allah we will share some advice and benefits taken from tonight’s lesson on the 20th night of Safar 1434 corresponding with the 1st of January 2013, with Shaykh Hasan Marzooq Al-Banna -حفظه الله و جزاه الله خيرا-

The Shaykh -حفظه الله- said:

"Fear Allah and have Taqwa of Allah regardless of where you are, and not just when you are in the Masjid, just as the Messenger of Allah said:

“Fear Allah where ever you are”

Saheeh Al Jaami’ As Sagheer Al Albani

The Shaykh -حفظه الله-
was asked what harms and prevents a student of knowledge attaining ilm; from his answers the Shaykh said

Bad mannerisms and laziness in acts of worship”

The Shaykh -حفظه الله- answered a question pertaining to the UK and after consultation, told the people to refer back to Al-Athariyyah and Al-Masjid As-Sunnah in London, Al Masjid As-Salafi in Birmingham and Al Markaz As-Salafi in Manchester.

A brother said I have not studied Islamic knowledge for a long time where should i start?

(Paraphasing) The Shaykh -حفظه الله-replied:

Begin with the Usool, study the likes of Al-Usool Ath-Thalaatha and Al-Qawaaidul Arba’a and Al-Usool As-Sitta, start with the small books which will strengthen and build your foundations and give you the Usool that you need.

The final benefit we will mention is that
the Shaykh -حفظه الله- said:

“The Truth is One, The Usool (of Ahlul-Sunnah) are one and they do NOT change.”

A Golden Observation of Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Al-Allaama Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhali (may Allaah preserve him) stated:

I have stated more than once: Indeed, we have met Salafis in the eastern and western parts of the earth- all of them had love for one another and brotherhood upon one methodology and there was no differing between them, so the Salafi Dawah was disseminated in the eastern and western world. Then the malicious ones amongst the Yahood, the Nasaaraa, the evangelists (or missionaries) and the leaders of misguidance amongst the rawaafid (shia) and the soofiyyah noticed it-those who co-operate with the enemies of (Salafiyyah) and the misguided parties. By Allaah they co-operate with the enemies (of Salafiyyah) and there is a hidden and apparent connection between them, and they do not co-operate except in opposition to the Salafi Methodology. So they disseminated and propagated the poisons of disunity amongst the Salafis when it (i.e. Salafiyyah) spread in the eastern and western parts of the earth. They propagated the poisons of disunity in the midst of the Salafis, so they rip them apart in an evil way and there emerged a people who did not know Salafiyyah’s (true) orientation. Amongst them (i.e. those who emerged) is one who claims to be Salafi, but you do not see him except that he severs the affairs that binds Salafiyyah, due to his evil behaviour, his evil methodology or the evil methodologies that are widespread and designed to disunite the Salafis and tear them apart. Salafiyyah is in need of sensible, merciful and wise people, and even before that it is need of scholars. If these affairs are not present within the Salafis, then where will Salafiyyah be? It will be ruined.  And may Allaah bless you.
