Are you rewarded for reading the Qur’aan even though you do not understand its meaning?
Question:
The female questioner asks: Will one be rewarded for reading the Qur’aan even though he (or she) does not know its meaning?
Answer:
Yes he (or she) will be rewarded due to general statement of the Messenger (sallal laahu alayhi wa sallam): Whoever reads the Qur’aan, he will have ten rewards for every letter.’’ Then he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: And I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Laam’ is a letter and ‘Meem’ is a letter.
