Responsibilities That Make You Upright & Spread the Daw’ah – Shaykh Rabee (Allah preserve him).

The salafi bears a responsibility; upon him is to study (beneficial) knowledge, to study the books of the salaf, the belief of the salaf, their exegesis of the Quran and their explanations of the messenger’s hadeeth (alayhis salaatu was salaam), so that he is grounded in (beneficial) knowledge, whilst he truthfully calls to Allah with knowledge and insight.

He (The Most High) said,

Say, “This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and those who follow me. And exalted is Allah; and I am not of those who associate others with Him.” (12:108)

Meaning, I (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) and my true followers, call to Allah with sure sighted insight; ie upon knowledge.

The caller to ignorance (misguidance, evil, innovations), such as the callers of misguidance and innovation – they are ignoramuses, ignorant of the path of truth and the (correct) call to Allah; they call to falsehood.

The people of innovation and misguidance call to falsehood, even if they are characterised as having knowledge, and even if they have certificates, then they are (still) ignoramuses, just as some of the salaf said, ‘a scholar has never brought about an innovation, rather innovations are only brought about by the ignorant ones, even if they call themselves scholars, then they are (still) ignorant.’

So learn and study the Book of Allah, and the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa salam), study the Oneness of Allah (The Blessed & Most High).

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our, Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions.

Purification of The Heart Can Only Be Attained Through Giving Precedence to Allaah Over Desires!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

A slave is not afflicted with a punishment greater than the hardness of the heart and being distanced from Allaah. The farthest hearts from Allaah are the hardened hearts, and when the heart is hardened, the eyes become lacking in (discernment, perception, crying out of fear of Allaah etc). The hardness of the heart occurs due to four [affairs] when their limit is exceeded: Food, sleep, speech and mixing [with the people]. And just as the diseased body is not benefited by food and drink, likewise the heart is not benefited by admonitions when it is afflicted with [evil] desires. Whoever desires purification of his heart then let him give precedence to Allaah over his desires. The heart that is attached to desires is veiled from Allaah depending on the strength of its attachment to [such desires]. [Ref 1]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] also said:

The heart does get sick just as the body gets sick and its cure is found in repentance and bring keen [to obey Allaah and the Messenger etc]. The heart does become rusty just as a mirror becomes rusty, and remembrance of Allaah polishes it. The heart does become unadorned just as the body, and fear of Allaah beautifies it. The heart does suffer from discomfort just as the body suffers from discomfort due to hunger, and its food and drink are knowledge and awareness of Allaah, love of Allaah, reliance upon Allaah, turning sincerely to Allaah in repentance and obedience with Tawheed, and carrying out acts of obedience to Allaah. [Ref 2]

Imaam Ibn Qudaamah [rahimahullaah] said:

Know that every limb was created to perform a specific action, so a sign of its [i.e. any limb] sickness is when guilt is established due to performing [an evil] act. A sign of the hand’s sickness is when it is guilty of striking unlawfully; a sign of eye’s sickness is when it is guilty of staring unlawfully; a sign of the heart’s sickness is when it is guilty of not doing what it was created for, such as acquiring knowledge and wisdom; love of Allaah, worshiping Allaah alone and preferring that over every other desire. Therefore, if a person was to possess knowledge of everything but he does not know Allaah (Gloried be He), then it is as if he knew nothing.  The sign of knowing Allaah is to love Allaah, for whoever truly knows Allaah will love Allaah, and a sign of having love for Allaah is that one does not give precedence to anything over Allaah. So whoever prefers something from the beloved things over Allaah, then his heart is sick, just like the stomach that prefers mud and not bread, due to losing the desire for bread. [Ref 3]

Seek Allaah’s Refuge Against Sin And Debt!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Aa’isha [radiyallaahu-anhaa] narrated that the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] used to invoke Allaah in the salaah [before the Tasleem] saying:

O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave and from the trial and affliction of Maseeh Ad-Dajjaal and from trial and affliction of life and death. O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from being in debt.” So somebody said to him, ‘’Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allaah from being in debt?’’ The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) replied, “A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them)]”. [Ref 1]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] combined [in this supplication between seeking Allaah’s refuge] from sins and debt, for indeed sins necessitate loss in the afterlife and debt necessitates loss in the worldly life. [Ref 2]

Too Much Speech About Manhaj!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Question to Shaikh Rabee [may Allaah preserve him]: What is your view regarding the one who says, “Too much speech about Manhaj [i.e. sound methodology that distinguishes the Salafi Methodology from the groups of bidah] hardens the heart?”

Answer: The Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] firstly questions the deviated view presented in the question with exclamation marks, in order to make the listener realise its falsity and acknowledge the opposite of it; then he stated as follows: “Too much speech about sound Manhaj and studying it hardens the heart; but calling to fictitious [beliefs, deeds, ideas, views etc], bidah, misguidance and the ideas of the khawaarij softens the hearts!!!  The call to sound methodology – the call to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], and what the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Messenger contains regarding [sound] creed, [sound] acts of worship, [sound] deeds and [sound] rectification of the [Islamic] Methodology- is a great affair which must be [established]. The affairs of misguidance [that have been innovated in this sound] methodology are numerous, and regardless how much a person speaks [about sound methodology], his efforts are little in comparison to what the affair requires. At present we speak about sound methodology, but has it reached all the Muslims?! But speech based on the path of the Tableeghees, the Ikhwaanees, the people of misguidance, the people of bidah, the [carriers] of fictitious views, deviated views, [deviated] political views softens the heart! Is this a correct statement? This is the speech of the foolish ones – those who are fed up with the true Islamic methodology, so they utter the likes of this false speech that hinders [people] from the path of Allaah”.

[17] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

To Proceed:

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ –Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]

Whoever amongst the followers of the previous Prophets comes into contact with Muhammad’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] message, they must believe in him and aid him, even if they had a revealed book and another Prophetic tradition, just as Allaah [The Exalted] said: [  لَمَآ ءَاتَيۡتُڪُم مِّن ڪِتَـٰبٍ۬ وَحِكۡمَةٍ۬ ثُمَّ جَآءَڪُمۡ رَسُولٌ۬ مُّصَدِّقٌ۬ لِّمَا مَعَكُمۡ لَتُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُ  – Take whatever I gave you from the Book and Hikmah (understanding of the Laws of Allah, etc.), and afterwards there will come to you a Messenger (Muhammad) confirming what is with you; you must, then, believe in him and help him]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 81]

Allaah [The Exaalted] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “We believe in Allah and in what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob) and Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)] and what was given to Musa (Moses), ‘Iesa (Jesus) and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between one another among them and to Him (Allah) we have submitted (in Islam)”; then Allaah [The Exalted] said: [ وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِ دِينً۬ا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ- And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayaat 84-85]

A group amongst the Salaf [pious predecessors] stated that when this Aayah was revealed, some of the Jews and Christians said, “We are Muslims”, so Allaah said, [وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ حِجُّ ٱلۡبَيۡتِ مَنِ ٱسۡتَطَاعَ إِلَيۡهِ سَبِيلاً۬‌ۚ   – And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka’bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one’s conveyance, provision and residence)]; so they said, “We will not perform Hajj”, then Allaah said, [وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ عَنِ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ  – and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns)]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 97]

Anyone who does not believe that it is obligated on him to perform hajj even though he has the ability, then he is a disbeliever (Ref 1) based on the consensus of the scholars just as the Qur’aan has made that very clear. The Jews and Christians do not consider Hajj to be obligated on them, so they are disbelievers. [An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deen Al-Maseeh pages 200-201. Slightly paraphrased]

Finally, we repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

The Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] came with signs which manifested his Prophethood. The miracles which Allaah gave him are more than a thousand, such as the splitting of the moon (ref 1) and other signs. The Qur’aan itself is a miracle, such as the news related regarding the people of the Scripture before the advent of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], the glad tidings given by the other Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] about his advent, the protection of the heavens with stern guards and flaming fires against the devils who seek to (steal) a hearing, which was not the case before his birth, the affairs of the unseen which Allaah informed him, such as the story of Aadam, Nuh, Ibraaheem, Moosaa, the Messiah, Hud, Shuaib, Saaleh and others [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] as well as affairs of the future. His people knew that he has never learnt anything from the people of the Scripture nor from other than them. He neither learnt from a single scholar amongst the people of the Scripture nor sit with anyone of them who knew the Arabic language nor other than them; nor did he read any written book. He never travelled anywhere before his Prophethood, except twice (Ref 2)– travelled with his uncle when was young and during that journey, neither was he out of his uncle’s sight nor did he sit with anyone from the people of the Scripture, rather those whom he travelled with were informed – by Baseerah, the monk –  that he will be a Prophet due to the signs of Prophethood that manifested from him. This is why Khadeejah [may Allaah be pleased with her] married him before he was a Prophet due to that which she was informed regarding him. These affairs have been mentioned in detail elsewhere, but the intent here is to notify the reader that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was given miracles, such as water coming out from his finger nails (Ref3), food increased until a great number of people ate from it (Ref 4) and the increase of a small amount of water until a great number of people drank from it (Ref 5). And also some of the things – in the Qur’aan- which he informed the people regarding events in the past, which none knew, and this is from that which established the proofs against the people, even though they harboured severe enmity against him and were eager to speak ill of him. All the nations knew that his people wilfully opposed him and made strenuous effort to speak ill of him, and they were able to say, “He was taught these affairs of the unseen by a human being”, but everyone knew that no human taught him. And due to this Allaah said: [تِلۡكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَآءِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ نُوحِيہَآ إِلَيۡكَ‌ۖ مَا كُنتَ تَعۡلَمُهَآ أَنتَ وَلَا قَوۡمُكَ مِن قَبۡلِ هَـٰذَا‌ۖ – This is of the news of the unseen which We reveal unto you (O Muhammad ), neither you nor your people knew them before this]. [Surah Hud. Aayah 49]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated that neither the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] nor his people knew these affairs, and his people affirmed that he never learnt anything from anyone besides his people. This is why when some of them claimed that he was taught by a human, the lie became manifest to everyone. Allaah said:

So when you want to recite the Qur’an, seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one). Verily! He has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allah). His power is only over those who obey and follow him (Satan), and those who join partners with Him (Allah) [i.e. those who are Mushrikun – polytheists]. And when We change a Verse [of the Qur’an, i.e. cancel (abrogate) its order] in place of another, and Allah knows the best of what He sends down, they (the disbelievers) say: “You (O Muhammad) are but a Muftari! (forger, liar).” Nay, but most of them know not. Say (O Muhammad) Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought it (the Qur’an) down from your Lord with truth, that it may make firm and strengthen (the Faith of) those who believe and as a guidance and glad tidings to those who have submitted (to Allah as Muslims). And indeed We know that they (polytheists and pagans) say: “It is only a human being who teaches him (Muhammad).” The tongue of the man they refer to is foreign, while this (the Qur’an) is a clear Arabic tongue. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayaat 98-103]

There was a non-Arab slave of one of the Quraish, whom some claimed that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] used to learn from, so Allaah clarified that this is a manifest lie, because it was impossible for that man to learn a single sentence from the Arabic Qur’aan and Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was an Arab and did not know any other language. Neither could Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] understand anyone who spoke to him in another language nor was that man fluent in the Arabic language. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [لِّسَانُ ٱلَّذِى يُلۡحِدُونَ إِلَيۡهِ أَعۡجَمِىٌّ۬ وَهَـٰذَا لِسَانٌ عَرَبِىٌّ۬ مُّبِينٌ – The tongue of the man they refer to is foreign, while this (the Qur’an) is a clear Arabic tongue]. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah103]

Also Allaah [The Exlated] informed us that some people tried to say: [إِنۡ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ إِفۡكٌ ٱفۡتَرَٮٰهُ وَأَعَانَهُ ۥ عَلَيۡهِ قَوۡمٌ ءَاخَرُونَ  – This (the Qur’an) is nothing but a lie that he (Muhammad) has invented, and others have helped him at it”, so Allaah said: [فَقَدۡ جَآءُو ظُلۡمً۬ا وَزُورً۬ا – Indeed, they have produced an unjust wrong (thing) and a lie]. [Surah Al-Furqaan. Aayah 4]

Then Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And they say: “Tales of the ancients, which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon.” Say: “It (this Qur’an) has been sent down by Him (Allah) (the Real Lord of the heavens and earth) Who knows the secret of the heavens and the earth. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Surah Al-Furqaan. Aayaat 5-6]

Allaah [The Exalted] clarified that this is a manifest lie that is known to his enemies, let alone his allies, because they knew that he had no one to help him in that – neither amongst his people nor in his land, and this is why Allaah said, [فَقَدۡ جَآءُو ظُلۡمً۬ا وَزُورً۬ا – Indeed, they have produced an unjust wrong (thing) and a lie]. [Surah Al-Furqaan. Aayah 4]

All the people of his country and those who wilfully opposed  him knew that this was an unjust thing and a lie, and that was why not a single sensible one amongst them uttered such a thing.

They also tried to say, “Tales of the ancients, which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon”, however his people knew that he had none to dictate a book to him and thus their lie was manifested. Then Allaah [The Exalted] said:

قُلۡ أَنزَلَهُ ٱلَّذِى يَعۡلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ ڪَانَ غَفُورً۬ا رَّحِيمً۬ا

Say: “It (this Qur’an) has been sent down by Him (Allah) (the Real Lord of the heavens and earth) Who knows the secret of the heavens and the earth. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”; because indeed there are secrets in the Qur’aan which no human knew except by way of Allaah’s revelation, because Allaah alone knows the secrets in the heavens and the earth.

Then after the falsity of their statement was made known, they started disparaging his Prophethood as Allaah stated that they said:

And they say: “Why does this Messenger (Muhammad) eat food, and walk about in the markets (like ourselves). Why is not an angel sent down to him to be a warner with him? “Or (why) has not a treasure been granted to him, or why has he not a garden whereof he may eat?” And the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) say: “You follow none but a man bewitched.” [Surah Al-Furqaan. Aayaat 7-8]

This was a statement of his opponents who disapproved that he should buy his livelihood from the markets in which were sold food and clothing, so they said, “Why is not an angel sent down to him to be a warner with him? Or (why) has not a treasure been granted to him, or why has he not a garden whereof he may eat?” – Meaning:  to suffice him from having to buy provisions from the market! So Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَقَالَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلاً۬ مَّسۡحُورًا – And the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) say: “You follow none but a man bewitched.”]

Then Allaah said:[ٱنظُرۡ ڪَيۡفَ ضَرَبُواْ لَكَ ٱلۡأَمۡثَـٰلَ فَضَلُّواْ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلاً۬  – See how they coin similitudes for you, so they have gone astray, and they cannot find a (Right) Path] – Meaning: They coin similitudes for you that you are a liar, bewitched and that you transmit from others, but the lie of the lie of the one who says all of this became clear to everyone who knows you, and this why Allaah said: [فَضَلُّواْ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلاً۬ – so they have gone astray, and they cannot find a (Right) Path]. The misguided one – the who cannot find a right path- cannot find the path that will lead him to the right goal; rather his inability and lack of ability to argue truthfully is clear. [An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deenul Maseeh by Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah). 1/132-134. Slightly paraphrased]

Ref 1: Anas [radiyallaahu-anhu] narrated that the people of Makkah asked the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] to show them a miracle, so he showed them (the miracle) of the cleaving of the moon”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Number 4867]

Ibn Mas’ood [radiyallaahu-anhu] narrated that during the lifetime of Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], the moon was split not two parts; one part remained over the mountain and the other part went beyond the mountain. On that, Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Witness this miracle”. [Saheeh al-Bukhaari 4864]

Ref 3 & Ref 5: Jaabir Bin Abdillaah [radiyallaahu-anhu] narrated , “I was with the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] and the time for the Asr prayer became due. We had no water with us except a little which was put in a vessel and was brought to the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. He put his hand into it and spread his fingers and then said, ‘Come along! Hurry up! All those who want to perform ablution. The blessing is from Allaah’. I saw the water gushing out from his fingers. So, the people performed ablution and drank, and I tried to drink more water (beyond my thirst and capacity), for I knew it was a blessing”. To Proceed: Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan.

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] himself called the Christians and Jews to believe in him and in that which he brought, just as he also called the Arabs- who had no scripture- and all the other nations. He [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] related from Allaah [The Exalted] that those amongst the people of the scripture and other than them are unbelievers if they do not believe in him and that their abode will be the fire – an evil destination. As for the Jews, they were his neighbours in the Arabian peninsula- at Madeenah and its surrounding areas, and Khyber. Indeed, the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar believed in him without fighting; rather the signs of Prophethood and the proofs of his truthfulness were manifested to them so they believed in him. Many of those who believed in him were harmed and this is well known in the Seerah. Many Jews and Christians believed in him during his lifetime- some in Makkah and some in Madeenah, and many others were neither from Makkah nor Madeenah.

When he arrived and settled in Madeenah, he made peace treaties with those Jews who did not believe in him, but they broke their treaty so he expelled some of them, fought them and some were killed as a result because they waged war against Allaah and his Messenger. He fought them repeatedly- fought Banu Nadheer and Allaah revealed Surah al-Hashar regarding them; fought Banu Quraydha in the year of the Confederates and Allaah mentioned them in Surah Al-Ahzaab; and prior to that he fought Banu Qaynuqaa; and after them he fought at the battle of Khaybar and the companions who participated in this battle were those who gave the pledge at Ridwaan- under the tree, and they were 1400 in number. Allaah gave them victory at Khaybar and revealed Soorah Al-Fath regarding this. Therefore, how can it be said that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was not sent except to the Arab pagans, even though this was his situation with the Jews. [https://www.abukhadeejah.com/salafi-shaikh-fawzaan-on-jihaad-in-our-times-and-the-guidelines-of-jihaad-according-to-islam/]

As for the Christians, then indeed the people of Najraan – from Yemen – came to debate with him [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] in his Masjid, so Allaah revealed Surah Aal Imraan regarding them. And when his proofs became manifest and it became clear to them that he is a Messenger of Allaah sent to them, Allaah commanded him that if they do not respond to his call, then he should call them for MUBAAHALAH [Ref 1] [i.e. invoke the curse of Allaah on the liars]. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Then whoever disputes with you concerning him [‘Iesa (Jesus)] after (all this) knowledge that has come to you, [i.e. ‘Iesa (Jesus)] being a slave of Allah, and having no share in Divinity) say: (O Muhammad) “Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves – then we pray and invoke (sincerely) the Curse of Allah upon those who lie.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 61]

When he called them for MUBAAHALAH, they asked him to give them some time until they consult one another.  So they said to one another, “Do not do this, because by Allah, if he is a Prophet and we do this invocation, then neither we nor our offspring after us will be successful”. So they excused themselves from Mubaahalah and agreed to pay Jizyah, because they were scared of his supplication as they knew that he is Prophet. [An Excerpt from ‘Al-Jawaabus Saheeh. Pages 50-51. Slightly paraphrased]

Ref 1: MUBAAHALAH: Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr [rahimahullaah] said, “There is a benefit in the story of the people of Najraan, and in it is that Mubaahalah is legislated against the opposer when he persists upon [falsehood] after the proofs have been manifested. Indeed, Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] did call to it, then Al-Awzaa’ee [rahimahullaah] and some of the scholars. And that which is well known from experience is that the affair of one who performs Mubaahalah – whilst he is one upon falsehood – does not extend beyond the year of the Mubaahalah. This occurred between me and a person who was fanatically supporting some of the heretics and after two months he could not stand up”. [An Excerpt from ‘Fat-hul Baari’ 12/195. Slightly paraphrased]

Shaikh Albaanee [rahimahullaah] was asked about the ruling on MUBAAHALAH in relation to worldly matters: Question: The hadith regarding the Najran delegation is well known when they came to the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], and then Allaah revealed:

Then whoever disputes with you concerning him [‘Iesa (Jesus)] after (all this) knowledge that has come to you, [i.e. ‘Iesa (Jesus)] being a slave of Allah, and having no share in Divinity) say: (O Muhammad) “Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves – then we pray and invoke (sincerely) the Curse of Allah upon those who lie.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 61]

So he called them to MUBAAHALAH, but they refused. It is well known to us that MUBAAHALAH is not to be done except in issues related to Aqeedah, but some people amongst the Muslims suggest this ruling in worldly affairs between him and his Muslim brother; meaning, if my Muslim brother owes me money but denies it, then would it be permissible to suggest this ruling between me and my Muslim brother?

Answer: May Allaah bless you. The answer to this question is that it is not permissible to suggest this in such a situation or suggest this Sharee’ah ruling in relation to material issues due to two reasons: Firstly, because this story is related to issues of Aqeedah as you have stated today. Secondly,  as for the material issues, then Islaam has legislated a system and principle for it. He [i.e. the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] said, “The burden of proof is on the claimant and an oath is a duty upon the one who denies the claim”. So, there is no room for Mubaahalah in this affair, which Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] legislated in that affair between His Messenger [peace and blessing of Allaah be upon him] and those Christians of the Najran who denied true Islamic Monotheism and persisted on the Trinity. So, this affair is not suggested in another issue besides this because neither is there a narration of the pious predecessors nor a hadeeth regarding it. However, if it must be done, then it can be suggested when two groups of Muslims differ in some ideas or Aqeedah- for example between the Mutazilah and Ahlus Sunnah. It is possible that if some Mu’tazilee is haughty after discussion and after evidences have been presented, then the Sunnee seeks Mubaahalah from him – that may the curse of Allaah be upon the liars. Therefore, it is possible to suggest this in such an affair. [Ref 2] But as for the question with regards to suggesting this affair in issues related to material dispute, then this is not permissible. [An Excerpt from ‘Silsilah Al-Hudaa Wan-Noor 703’. Slightly paraphrased]

Ref 2: Caution: Do not enter into debate with anyone, rather leave it to those who are firmly grounded in knowledge.

Is the Presence of Differing a Proof for the People of Innovation to Remain and be Steadfast upon their Falsehood and Misguidance?! – Shaykh Rabee ibn Haadi

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Questioner:

Verily amongst the Shaikhs of Ahlul Bidah [i.e. leaders of the people of innovated religious affairs] are those that deceive the people and say, “Indeed differing exists even in the fundamentals of the religion”.

Shaykh Rabee (hafidahullah):

Fine, if differing exits, we say likewise differing exits in the fundamental and subsidiary issues of the religion, however what is Allaah’s Ruling on this differing? Is there a solution for this differing? Is the mere presence of differing a proof for the proponents of religious innovations to remain and be steadfast upon their falsehood and misguidance?!

These Ikhwaan al-Muslimeen want you to be silent about the Raafidah, silent about the Khawaarij, silent about the Mu’tazilah, silent about the worshippers of the graves, why? Because [i.e. they want to claim that] the pious predecessors differed, likewise we differ with them, so we leave them alone! Did the companions leave alone those who opposed them? Did the Messenger leave those who opposed him? Did he not establish Allaah’s commands and prohibitions and did he not rebuke those who went to extremes in worship and say, “Whoever turns away from my sunnah is not from me…”(1)

Why did Allah  – The Blessed and The Most High – praise this Ummah [i.e. the Muslims] that they enjoin good and forbid evil;

You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. (Aali-Imraan:110)

hence, one of the most loathsome, the filthiest and most evil deed is to oppose the fundamentals; they oppose the Lord of All that Exists and His noble messenger. Should we remain quiet about those who oppose the fundamentals – those who oppose the Qur’aan and the Sunnah of His Messenger?

The one who rebukes those who say “Our Lord is above the heavens and has ascended above His Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty)” and he claims that Allah does not have a place, not above, not below, not on the right, or on the left, do we remain quiet about this?!!

Should we remain quiet about the one who says, “I invoke so and so, seeks deliverance from others besides Allah, sacrifice animals for other than Allah?”  Allah – The Most High – said,

And who is more astray (in religion and intellect) than he who invokes besides Allāh those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection and who are unaware of their invocation (which is being directed to them). (Al-Ahqaf:5)

And Allah passed a judgement that he’ll enter the fire – Refuge is sought with Allah.

These are worthless people and I do not know how the Salafis can be confused by the likes of this doubt?!! You have proofs and evidences with you, and with your ability you can face those people and chase them away with the proofs and evidences; [but] you sit [quietly] like this and let the doubt grab you?! Bombard them with the proofs and evidences that are with you.

Dhikr is to be Performed as Much as Possible – Ibn Abbas in Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Alee ibn Abee Talhah (rahimahullah) reported that Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them both) stated regarding Allah The Most High’s statement

Remember Allah with much remembrance. (Al-Ahzaab:41)

Verily, Allah did not obligate an obligation upon his servants except that he legislated a fixed limit for it (1), and then excused its performers when they are in a situation when they are excused (2), except in the case of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) for indeed Allah did not legislate a limit for it and nor is a person excused for abandoning it, except when compelled. Allah said,

remember Allah standing, sitting down, and (lying down) on your sides (An-Nisaa:103)

night and day, at land or sea, whilst travelling or resident, when wealthy and in times of poverty, in sickness and in health, in private and public and in all circumstances, He, The Mighty and Majestic said,

And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and ‘Asr prayers]. (Al-Ahzaab:42)

so if you were to do that (in the manner mentioned by ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them both)) then Allah will send His Blessings upon you, and the Angels will supplicate for you.
