Attempting to Safeguard Oneself from Showing Off (Ar-Riyaa) – Al-Uthaymīn

Attempting to Safeguard Oneself from Showing Off (Ar-Riyaa) – Al-Uthaymīn

There are those who abandon acts of obedience [due to] fear of riyaa [i.e. showing off in acts of worship].

This [occurs] because Shaytān plays about with a person and beautifies for him [or her] the abandonment of acts of obedience out of fearing riyaa; rather you should perform acts of obedience, but there should not be -in your heart- [a desire] to show off.

Signs of a Sound Heart and a Sick Heart – Shaykh Rabī

‎إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
Except him who brings to Allāh a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifāq (hypocrisy)]. Ash-Shu’ara:89

Shaykh Rabī ibn Hādi Al-Madkhalī (hafidahullāh):

Ponder, is your heart sound?

What is the sound heart?

The sound heart is that which fights Shirk and rejects falsehood, it accepts the truth and refutes falsehood with all its might, this is the sound heart. So, if you notice that you accept the truth from whoever brings it to you (you accept the truth; the truth guides you and your goal is the truth) then by Allāh your heart and intellect is sound.

What is the sick heart?

And, if you realise that you reject the truth when it comes to you from a certain direction, and you accept falsehood when it comes from another direction and you behave as if it is the truth; then know that your heart is sick.

Glad tidings to Those Christians Who Submitted to The Message of The Final Messenger When it Reached Them- [An Excerpt From Al-Jawaabus Saheeh]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And when they (who call themselves Christians) listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger (Muhammad), you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognised.  They say: ”Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses. And why should we not believe in Allaah and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islaamic Monotheism)? And we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection) along with the righteous people. So because of what they said, Allaah rewarded them Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise), they will abide therein forever. Such is the reward of good-doers.”5:83-85

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: Therefore, Allaah [Glorified be He] did not give a promise for reward in the Hereafter, except to those who believe in Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam].  They are the ones about whom it is stated:

[وَإِذَا سَمِعُواْ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ تَرَىٰٓ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمۡعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ‌ۖ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ   – And when they (who call themselves Christians) listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognised.  They say: ”Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses]. [5:83]

The witnesses are those who testify to the Messengership of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. They bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] is the Messenger of Allaah.  So, they are the witnesses being spoken about.  Allaah said:

”Thus We have made you [true Muslims – real believers of Islaamic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah (legal ways)], a Wasat (just) (and the best) nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you”. 2:143

And for that reason, Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhu] and other than him stated [about the statement in the ayah: [فَٱكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ – so write us down among the witnesses]-Meaning:, ”Write us down with Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and his Ummah”.

Ask by Allah’s Face for the Ultimate Goal

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān was asked:

What is the intent of the Messenger’s statement (sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam), Do not ask for anything by Allāh’s Face except Paradise?

He (ḥafidahullāh) answered:

“Yes (that is correct), glorify Allāh’s Face (azza wa jal), and do not ask for anything by it from the coveted objects of the worldly life, only ask by it for Paradise – as a glorification of Allāh’s Face (subhānahu wa ta’āla) – which is the ultimate goal.”

People Negligent Regarding Aqīdah are Two Types – Shaykh Ubayd

Shaykh Ubayd al-Jābirī explained regarding the one who is easy going and negligent regarding Aqīdah, he is one of two types [of people and] there is no third:

1. An ignorant man. He is not acquainted with the call to the path of Allaah based on clear sightedness, [rather] he follows every Tom, Dick and Harry.

2. An evil man- person of desires, an innovator and misguided person. He knows that as long as the Creed of Tawheed and Sunnah is strong amongst its people, he cannot approach them [with misguidance], rather he approaches them [with misguidance] when their souls become weak.

This type of person firstly manifests beautified expressions and general statements to show that he adheres to the correct Aqīdah and Dawah, so that the hearts of the people become inclined towards him, he wins their trust and gets a strong position amongst them.

Afterwards, he wraps himself around them like a snake that wraps [itself] around its prey, then he releases – amongst them – the flame of bidah and newly invented affairs (in creed, acts of worship or both), and in most cases only a few of his followers free themselves from him.

Reflection: The Conditional Promise Before a Return to Strength and Authority

Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

17 Benefits from Ḥadith: Whoever Allāh Wants Good for He Gives Him Fiqh of The Religion – Shaykh ‘Abdul Muḥsin

Mu’āwiyah (Allāh be pleased with him) said (whilst delivering a khutbah) (1), I heard the Prophet (sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam) saying, “If Allāh wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allāh. (And remember) that this nation (those upon Tawheed and Sunnah) will not cease to be obedient to Allāh’s orders and they will not be harmed by those who oppose them until Allah’s order (Day of Judgment) is established.” (2)

Shaykh Abdul Muḥsin (ḥafidahullāh) begins his book, (‘Ishroona Ḥadeethan min Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Bukhāri Diraasa Asānīdihā wa Sḥarḥ Mutūnihā), with this ḥadīth, he then explained it in various ways:

Sincerity and Servitude to Allaah- [O Allaah! Grant Us This Sincerity and Servitude..Aameen]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:The sincere person tastes the sweetness of servitude to Allaah which prevents him from servitude to other than Allaah; for there is nothing sweeter and more comforting to the heart than the sweetness [found] in belief in Allaah–The Lord of the Aalameen.

The Qurān Requires Understanding and Action – Shaykh Rabī

Shaykh Rabī ibn Hādi Al-Madkhalī:

Nowadays an individual recites the Quran to another, however he does not know it’s meaning! He memorises the Quran, repeats it and he does not know it’s meaning. No understanding, and possibly he does understand, but he doesn’t act (by it).

The Quran requires understanding, implementation and action.

The Correct Aqīdah – Makes You Humble – Shaykh Rabī B. Hādi

The Correct Aqīdah – Makes You Humble

Shaykh Rabī ibn Hādi Al-Madkhalī:

If Allāh makes firm a person upon His True Religion, upon the True Methodology of Allāh and upon correct belief, then this is a blessing from Allāh. Therefore, he should not be deceived by himself or be arrogant and proud.

Rather, he only humbles himself to Allāh (The Lord of all that exists) and thanks him (for making him firm) and he implores Him (The Glorified and Most High) to preserve his religion for him, and to avert from him dangers and deviation.
