Asking the Jinn questions during Ruqyah–Al’Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan

Questions:

Virtuous Shaikh, may Allaah grant you success; if the Jinn speaks at the end of the ruqyah, should I ask him about the magic and who did it?

Answer: No, no do not ask him about the unseen and the magic. Tell him, ‘’Fear Allaah, get out of this person; fear Allaah and do not transgress against the Muslims’’. Advise him, (but) as for asking him to inform you about things, this is not permissible–this is seeking aid and assistance from the Jinn. Yes.

[1] The Blessed Saudi State-Al’Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him)

All praise is due to Allaah, and may peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and all his companions. To proceed:

This country-the land of the two noble sacred mosques- to which the performers of Hajj and Umrah come to every year for pilgrimage to the noble kabah, due to the saying of Allaah (The Most High):[ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ]—[ And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka’bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah], which is the Qiblah of the Muslims in the western and eastern parts of the earth. He (The Most High) said:[ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ] [And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction]; meaning: The sacred house, and in the (land of these two sacred mosques are the places in which) the revelation descended, the places of origin of the Messenger ship of [Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)] and the heart of the Islamic world.

This is a blessed State—the State (under the authority) of the family of Saud; the State of Islamic Monotheism and in it the pure Islamic Legislation is implemented, enjoining good and forbidding evil is established, and in it is found continuous knowledge sessions to teach the sciences of the Islamic Legislation, the language sciences and the technical sciences. This State provides service to the two noble sacred mosques (i.e. takes care of them), it gives high regard for the safety of those who perform Hajj and Umrah and those Muslims who come to them by Allaah’s tawfeeq. It spends in establishing the Islamic call in (Saudi) and in the Islamic world. It spends generously in assisting the needy and distressed Muslims in every place and plays a role in solving the problems of the Muslims. Indeed, this State was established upon the legislated Islamic oath of allegiance—preserving unity, carrying out the (divine) legislated Islamic punishments against criminals and corrupters with that which preserves the Religion, honour, wealth, safety and stability, since there can be no safety without unity and there can be no unity without ruler ship, and there can be no ruler ship without listening to the (ruler) and being obedient to him. Ruler ship is made binding by the oath of allegiance of the people of authority and not by way of western elections….

Innovations and Innovators : The Stance of the Muslim Who Cares For His Religion.

Linguistically bid’ah (innovation) means ‘a newly invented matter’. The Sharee’ah definition of bid’ah is: “A newly invented way [beliefs or action] in the religion, in imitation of the Sharee’ah (prescribed Law), by which nearness to Allaah is sought, [but] not being supported by any authentic proof – neither in its foundations, nor in the manner in which it is performed.” Al-I’tisaam of ash-Shaatibee (1/37).

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Every innovation is misguidance and going astray” Reported by Abu Daawood (no. 4607), at-Tirmidhee (no. 2676) and it is saheeh. Ibn Hajr authenticated it Takhreej Ahaadeeth Ibn ul-Haajib (1/137).

And he (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) also said: “… and every innovation is misguidance and all misguidance is in the Hellfire.” Reported by an-Nasaa’ee (1/224) from Jaabir bin Abdullaah and it is saheeh as declared by Shaikh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmoo’ ul-Fataawaa (3/58).

The Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) also warned against the People of Innovation, from befriending, supporting or taking from them saying: “Whoever innovates or accommodates an innovator then upon him is the curse of Allaah, His Angels and the whole of mankind.” Reported by Bukhaaree (12/41) and Muslim (9/140)

And in his footsteps, we find the Noble Companions and the Taabi’een after them warning from the danger of innovations upon the Ummah, its people and their unity, since it is innovations which have divided the Ummah and split it asunder.

Ibn Abbaas (d. 68H) said: “Indeed the most detestable of things to Allaah are the innovations.” Reported by al-Bayhaqee in as-Sunan al-Kubraa (4/316)

Ibn Umar (d. 84H) said: “Every innovation is misguidance, even if the people see it as something good.” Reported by Abu Shaamah (no. 39)

Sufyaan ath-Thawree (d. 161H) said:”Innovation is more beloved to Iblees than sin, since a sin may be repented from but innovation is not repented from.” Reported by al-Laalikaa’ee (no. 238)

Al-Fudayl bin ‘Iyaad (d. 187H) said: “I met the best of people, all of them people of the Sunnah and they used to forbid from accompanying the people of innovation.” Reported by al-Laalikaa’ee (no.267)

Al-Hasan al-Basree (d. 110H) said: “Do not sit with the people of innovation and desires, nor argue with them, nor listen to them.” Reported by ad-Daarimee in his Sunan (1/121)

Ibraaheem bin Maysarah (d.132H) said: “Whoever honours an innovator has aided in the destruction of Islam.” Reported by al-Laalikaa’ee (1/139).

Sufyaan ath-Thawree (d. 161H) said: “Whoever listens to an innovator has left the protection of Allaah and is entrusted with the innovation.” Reported by Abu Nu’aym in al-Hilyah (7/26) and Ibn Battah (no.444).

Imaam Maalik (d. 179H) said: “How evil are the people of innovation, we do no give them salaam.” Reported by al-Baghawee in Sharh us-Sunnah (1/234).

Imaam ash-Shaafi’ee (d. 204H) said: “That a person meets Allaah with every sin except Shirk is better than meeting Him upon any one of the innovated beliefs.” Reported by al-Bayhaqee in al-I’tiqaad (p.158)

Al-Fudayl bin ‘Iyaad (d. 187H) said: “Whoever sits with a person of innovation, then beware of him and whoever sits with a person of innovation has not been given wisdom. I love that there was fort of iron between me and a person of innovation. That I eat with a Jew and a Christian is more beloved to me than that I eat with a person of innovation.” Reported by al-Laalikaa’ee (no.1149)

Al-Layth bin Sa’d (d. 175H) said: “If I saw a person of desires (i.e. innovations) walking upon the water I would not accept from him.” So Imaam as-Shaafi’ee then said: “He (al-Layth) has fallen short. If I saw him walking in the air I would not accept from him.” Reported by as-Suyooti in al-Amr bil ‘Ittibaa wan-Nahee anil Ibtidaa’.

Al-Fudayl bin ‘Iyaad said: “If a man comes to a person to consult him and he directs him to an innovator, then he has made a deception of Islaam. Beware of going to a person of innovation for they divert [people] from the truth.” Sharh Usool ul-I’tiqaad of al-Laalikaa’ee (no.261)

Pictures Depicting the Day of Judgement – Shaikh al-Fawzan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Q: “Is it permissible to draw pictures of some of the sights of the Day of Judgement?”

A: “No, no, this is something the youth do as a “means of calling to Allah” as they say, they illustrate the Fire, Paradise and its rivers; this is not permissible, this is from the knowledge of the unseen that no one knows other than Allah the Most High, so this type of futility is not permissible.

And calling to Allah is not done in this way, the call to Allah is via the Qur’an and the Sunnah, encouraging and warning and clarifying. [Sometimes they] dig a grave and say this is to give dawa and to remind [the people]…remind the people with the Qur’an my brother [!] Allah stated “But warn by the Qur’an, him who fears my threat” [Qaf:45]… so the one who is not reminded by the Qur’an will not be reminded by a hole dug up, this is burdening [beyond bounds] that Allah has not revealed evidence for”.

This affair is somewhat widespread amongst some, and in fact, I recall our brothers from the Maldives mentioning the existence of such acts there, and so alhamdulillah the Shaikh has clarified the affair.

Shaikh bin Baz on “Near-Death Experiences” and that Which is Witnessed

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

It is common to hear of individuals who have had “near-death experiences”, vision of seeing strange lights amongst other strange affairs, the following is regarding the story of an individual written in a  newspaper some 30 years ago, however the content is relevant as a generic matter.

The story narrates how a particular individual fell into a coma and it was mistakenly thought that he had actually died, and so he was consequently buried. He was however actually alive, and upon discovering that, he was removed and rescued from his grave 3 days later. That individual then narrated the “strange and fascinating” sights he witnessed whilst buried underground in his grave in the “close-to-death” experience, he makes mentions of Angels etc….[the exact content of the narration is not of importance, however the following response is].

The following statement [summarised] is the response of Shaikh ibn Baz to this individual’s narration of what he apparently witnessed.

“Due to some people believing such false stories I considered it important to highlight and alert the attention of people to the reality of this affair. In reality this is a complete and utter lie falsified by the claimant [narrations of seeing things from the after-life in so called near-death experiences]. It is known in the Legislation of Islam that the 2 Angels do not come to an individual until he actually dies, they do not come to someone who is still alive in this manner [coma or otherwise]  for the questionning [!]. [They] invent such stories of [near-death experiences] of seeing all types of strange affairs for other degrading gains [i.e. money from selling the story]”.

Part 8: The False Principles of Ali Halabi (The Innovator)

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Halabi’s state of affairs exploded when he authored his book titled Manhajus Salaf As-Saalih in 1429AH to wage a so called war against ”Those who exceed the limits when criticising others”; however in reality this book manifested the corrupt principles he used to hide from the Salafis, which he established in order to decfend the people of innovation and aid the Manhaj of Tamyee. This Manhaj of Tamyee was firstly established by Abul Hasan Al-Maribi (The Innovator), but Halabi completed it.

Therefore, Shaikh Rabee and his students refuted and warned against Halabi’s book but they refrained from declaring him an innovator.  Then Halabi and his students set up a website to wage war against Shaikh Rabee and his students, and they were accompanied by some of the people of ignorance and desires who raised his status.  They went into extremes in speaking ill of the Salafi Scholars of this era and described them with the ugliest descriptions.  They also propagated the doubts of ikhwaan al-Muslimeen and that of the illegal partisans until this website became a place for some of the deviants and the people of Tamyee; and until one could not notice a big difference between it and the websites of the ikhwaan al-Muslimeen and the people of illegal partisanship; and until he manifested an affair which no truthful salafi can ignore – his praise of the Book titled ‘Risaalatu Amaan’ a book that contained statements concerning Wahdatul Adyaan [the call to the unity of  Religions].

So the Salafis refuted Halabi for praising this Book and clarified the severity of the affair.  However, his students defended and praised the book, and they warned against those who refuted it.  Then Halabi agreed with his students in their defence of the book and this was a great catastrophe.  Then Shaikh Rabee warned against Halabi and declared him an innovator.

Referring to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم as “Habeeb ullah”? Sh.ibn Uthaymeen

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

It is common to hear the phrase “Habeeb ullah” referring to the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم, however how accurate is this statement? Shaikh ibn ul-Uthaymeen رحمه الله responds:

“The prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is habeeb ullah [beloved of Allah] no doubt, for indeed he loves Allah and is beloved to Allah, however there is a description that is higher and better than this, and that is to say “Khaleel ullah”. For indeed the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is the khaleel of Allah as in the hadith, “Indeed Allah took me as a khaleel just as He took Ibrahim as a khaleel”.

Therefore, the one who describes the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم as “habeeb ullah” has actually lowered him صلى الله عليه و سلم from his status, because “khaleel” is greater and higher than “habeeb”, since all the believers can be said to be the “habeeb” of Allah, but the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is in a position higher than that, and that is the position of being the “khaleel” [which is a greater level of love than habeeb]”.

[Fataawa Arkaan il-Islaam p98/99 paraphrased]

Similarly Shaikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned, “The statement of some of the people that Mohammad صلى الله عليه و سلم is “habeeb ullah” and that Ibrahim عليه السلام  is “khaleel ullah”, thinking that “habeeb” is a greater love than “khaleel” is a weak statement, rather the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is khaleel ullah”

Must Surat ul-Baqarah be Recited or is Playing a Recorder Sufficient to Expel the Shaytaan from the Home?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Many people often ask regarding the narration that the Shaytaan is expelled from a home that Surat ul-Baqarah is recited within; whether it is a must to actually have to recite, or if it is possible to simply play a recording of Surat ul-Baqarah on some electronic device?

The following is the response of Shaikh Ibn ul-Uthaymeen رحمه الله تعالى:

“Q: Oh Shaikh, there is a hadith from the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم that if a person recites Surat ul-Baqarah in his home then the Shaytaan cannot enter, but if the Surah was recorded on a cassette [or any other electronic means, and then played] then does the same still occur? [i.e. is that sufficient to prevent the Shaytaan from entering?]

A: No…no…an audio recording is nothing, it doesn’t benefit [in this regard], it cannot be said he [the house resident in this instance] has recited the Qur’an [since the hadith mentions “the one who recites…”], all that can be said is he has listened to a previous reciter on the recording.

Therefore, similarly if we were to record the adhaan [call to prayer] and then leave it at the microphone to play when the time for adhaan enters, then is that sufficient and fulfilling to the right of the adhaan? It is not fulfilling the right….and similarly if we were to record an inspiring and moving khutba of a khateeb and then when Friday comes we play it on the microphone and so the recording starts, “Assalamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu[!] then the mu’adhin makes the adhaan and then the khutba begins [on the recorder]…then is that fulfilling the obligation? No, it is not.”

[via Sahab]

In other various fataawa the scholars have mentioned that one of the reasons for this is because the recitation of the Qur’an is an act of worship and therefore an intention is required, and clearly the electronic device has no intention, or indeed any ability to make an intention. Similarly the Permanent Committee of Scholars mentioned it is not correct to play a recording of the Qur’an for ruqya purposes, rather it requires intention from the reader which the recorder does not have.
