Ruling on Visiting The Prophet’s Masjid in the Month of Rajab – Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullah) said:

Some of the people believe that visiting the prophets masjid in (the month of) Rajab has great virtue and they devote themselves to it and they call this visit, “Az-Ziyaaratul Rajbiyyah”, and this is an innovation with no basis.

And the predecessors did not speak about this until after the third generation. Because from the apparent this came about very late, so it is an innovation.

However whoever visits Madeenah in Rajab, not because it is Rajab, then there is no sin upon him. However if he believes that visiting in Rajab has virtue then indeed he has been unsuccessful (in his action) (1) and has gone astray. And he is from the people of innovation. (2)

Shaykh Alee Naasir Al-Faqeehi (hafidahullah) was approached by questioners at the end of his advice to those who come to the Prophets Mosque, regarding guidelines of how to give salaams upon the prophet, and the inhabitants of Al-Baqee (cemetery next to the Prophets Masjid) and clarifying the doubt spread by the soofis that the prophets grave is in the Masjid.

A man from Algeria came to the Shaykh and was genuinely confused and wanted clarification; the Shaykh (hafidahullah) exemplified the manners of a Scholar and a person of knowledge, in his dealing with the man.

He continued to explain and speak to him in a kind, gentle manner, explaining with evidences and proofs until the questioner was enlightened and the doubt had been removed from him.

We ask Allah to preserve the Shaykh and make his deeds heavy on his scales of good.

Sincere and Correct Action – Fudayl ibn Iyaad

Fudayl ibn Iyaad (rahimahullah) said:

The good action is the most sincere and the most correct.

He was asked: “Oh Abaa Alee, what is the most sincere and the most correct?

He said:

Indeed the action which was sincerely for Allah but not correct, is not accepted, and if it was correct but not sincere it is not accepted, until it is sincere and correct.

And Sincere (means): that which was for Allah (alone).

And Correct (means): that which is (done) according to the Sunnah.

Manners of Giving Salaams When There is a Lesson or Gathering – Shaykh Salih al-Fawzaan

When a person enters upon a gathering which has scholars, students of knowledge, laypeople and they are speaking; does he give salaams and sit or does he go round everyone giving them individual salaams?

There is no doubt that gatherings have (prescribed ) manners, so if the people enter and this gathering is a gathering of knowledge and a lesson then indeed, he sits down and listens and delays the salaams until there is a gap, likewise if the sitting was a sitting of conversing and one person is speaking and the rest are listening then also he sits and does
