Ibn Kamil

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ibn Kamil, may Allah have mercy upon him.

Shaikh Al-Islam, Al-Allamah, Al-Hafidh, Al-Qadee, AbuBakr Ahmad Bin Kamil Bin Khalaf, Bin Shajarah al-Baghdadi, a student of Muhammad Ibn Jarir at-Tabari, may Allah have mercy upon him.

He, may Allah have mercy upon him, was born in the year 260 AH. He narrated from: Muḥammad Ibn al-Jahm al-Samaree, Muḥammad ibn Saʿd al-Awfee, Abdul Malik ibn Muḥammad al-Raqaashee, al-Ḥasan ibn Sallaam al-Sawwaaq, Muḥammad ibn Maslamah al-Waasitee, and others of their generation.

Ad-Daraqutnee al-Ḥakim, Ibn Rizqawayh, Abu al-Alaa Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Warraaq, Yaḥyah ibn Ibraaheem al-Muzakkee, Abu al-Ḥasan al-Ḥammaamee, Abu ʿAli ibn Shaadhaan, and others, narrated from him. Abu al-Ḥasan ibn Rizqawayh said: “My eyes have not seen anyone like him, and I heard him mention his date of birth”.

Al-Khaṭeeb said:

“He was from the scholars of the Ahkam (of the Shariah), the sciences of the Qur’an, grammar, poetry, and history, and he had authorships in that. He held the position of judge at Kufa”.

Ad-Daaraqutnee said:

“He was Mutasaahil and may (sometimes) narrate from his memory that which is not in his book, and Ujub (self-amazement) ruined him”.

Ibn Shajarah died in the month of Muḥarram in the year 350 AH, at the age of ninety.

Ad-Daaraqutnee said:

“He (Ibn kamil) did not give weight to anyone among the Fuqahaa”. Ibn Ad-Dhahabee said: “I came across some of his more elevated-isnad narrations, and he was among the seas of knowledge, but self-amazement made him fade away (drop out of sight)”.

He wrote a book on Qiraa’aat. He has an authorship on Ghareeb Al-Qur’an, a book (titled) “Mujaz al-Taʾweel An Muʿjiz at-Tanzeel, a book on history and a book on contracts (Ash-Shurut).”

Hope, Repentance, Reform, and the Embrace of Allah’s Acceptance

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

And those who, when they have committed an immoral act or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and none can forgive sins but Allah – and do not persist in what they have done, while they know. [Aal Imran. 135]

“And those who, when they have committed an immoral act or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins”.

Meaning: When they commit sins, they return to Allah in repentance and seek His protection from the evil consequences that might reach them in future due to their evil deeds, and seek forgiveness for the evil deeds which they have already committed.

“And do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know”.

Meaning: They repent from their sin, turn to Allaah in repentance soon afterwards, refrain from persisting upon disobedience and they know that Allah forgives whoever repents.

For such, the reward is Forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders). [1] And they know that persisting upon sin is harmful and abandoning it is a foremost obligation. [2]

When they commit evil deeds -be it major or minor- they hasten towards repentance, seek forgiveness, remember their Lord, the promise given to the disobedient ones and the promise given to those who fear Him, thus, they ask for forgiveness, ask Allah to hide their faults, stop committing the sins and are regretful. And due to this, Allah said about them:

For such, the reward is Forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders)]. [3]

Allah, The Most High, said:

Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers. Except those who repent and do righteous deeds, and openly declare [the truth which they concealed]. These, I will accept their repentance. And I am the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. [Al-Baqarah. 159-160]

Abu Salih reported from Ibn Abbas who said:

This Ayah was revealed regarding the leaders of the Yahud, (who) concealed the Bayyinat and the Huda, which Allah revealed in the Tawrat. The Bayyinat are the (rulings) on what is lawful and unlawful, the prescribed punishments and the obligations. And Huda [in this Ayah] is the description of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his characteristics.

They (i.e. those who conceal the proofs) are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers.

“Except those who repent and do righteous deeds, and openly declare (the truth which they concealed). These, I will accept their repentance. And I am the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful”.

Ibn Mas’ud said: Except those Yahud who repent, rectify their deeds and make known the characteristics of Allah’s Messengers that are mentioned in their book. [4]

Allah, The Most High, said:

O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow [Paradise] the Day that Allah will not disgrace the Prophet [Muhammad] and those who believe with him, their Light will run forward before them and with [their Records Books of deeds] in their right hands they will say: ‘’Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us [and do not put it off till we cross over the Siraat (a slippery bridge over the Hell) safely] and grant us forgiveness. Verily, You are Able to do all things.’’

“O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance”.

Umar Ibn Khattab said:

Sincere repentance is that a person repents from sins and reminds himself not to return to sinning. Al-Hasan Al-Basri was asked about sincere repentance, he said: “It is regret (felt in) the heart, asking for forgiveness with the tongue, the limbs refrain from sinning and being cautious of returning to sin”. Ibn Mas’ud said: ‘’Sincere repentance expiates every evil deed”, then he recited the Ayah ah [i.e. Ayah 8 Surah At-Tahreem] [5]

Shaqeeq Al-Balkhi said:

“The signs of repentance are: Weeping over what has preceded, fear of falling into sin (again), keeping way from evil companions and accompanying the good people”. [6]

Allah, The Most High, said:

Verily, the hyprocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire and no helper will you find for them; except those who repent, act righteously, hold fast to Allaah and purify their religion for the sake of Allaah, then they will be with the believers. And Allah will grant to the believers a great reward. Why should Allah punish you if you have thanked [Him] and have believed in Him. And Allah is Ever All-Appreciative [of good], All-Knowing. [An-Nisaa. 145-147]

“Except those who repent”.

Meaning: Except those who repent from hypocrisy.

“And act righteously”.

Meaning: Rectify their deeds after repenting.

“An hold fast to Allah”

Meaning: Adhere to the religion ordained by Allah.

“And purify their religion for the sake of Allah”.

Meaning: The religion of Islam- sincerely adhere to it and keep away from shirk; act sincerely and removed from the filth of Nifaq [hypocrisy] and Riyaa [showing off].

“Then they will be with the believers. And Allah will grant to the believers a great reward”.

“Why should Allah punish you if you have thanked (Him) and have believed in Him. And Allah is Ever All-Appreciative (of good), All-Knowing”. [7]

[7] The Character Trait Most Hated By The Messenger

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her said:

There was no behaviour more hateful to Allāh’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, than lying. A man would tell a lie when speaking in the presence of the Prophet, and he would not be satisfied until he knew that he had repented from it. [at-Tirmidhi‌ 1973]

Allah said:

And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge). (Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being after he or she has attained the age of puberty), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions). Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). [50:16-18]

Allah informed us that He alone created humans -males and females- and He knows all their state of affairs. He knows everything that is hidden about them and what their souls whisper to them. Allah is nearer to them than their jugular veins by His knowledge, even though the jugular vein is the closest thing to the human. Therefore, this should make the human being mindful of Allah -the One Who knows all the hidden affairs in the soul and heart of the human being in all circumstances. This should also make the human being shy in the presence of Allah so that he (she) is not seen committing what Allah has forbidden or abandoning what Allah has commanded. [An Excerpt from ‘Tafsir As-Sadi]

Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“When the son of Adam wakes up in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say, ‘Fear Allah for our sake, (for) we are with you; if you are upright, we will be upright; and if you are crooked, we will become crooked'”. [1]

Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his mouth, his tongue, and his private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him”. [2]

Imam Al-Fudayl Ibn Iyad, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Neither hajj nor taking up positions during battle, nor Jihad is more difficult than restraining the tongue”. [3]

Abdullah Ibn Tawus, may Allah have mercy upon him,  said:

Tawus, may Allah have mercy upon him, used to find it difficult to speak for a very long time, and he would say: “I examined my tongue and found it to be malicious”. [4]

Imam Al-Fudayl Ibn Iyad, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Some of our companions used to guard their speech from one Jumu’ah to another Jumu’ah.” [5]

It was said to one of the scholars may Allah have mercy upon him,  “Indeed, you do keep quiet for a long time!” He said: “Indeed, I consider my tongue as a wild voracious animal. I fear that if I let it loose, it will hurt me.” [6]

It is said that a man argued with Al-Ahnaf Ibn Qays- may Allah have mercy upon both of them- and said: “If you say one, you will hear ten.” Al-Ahnaf replied: “But if you say ten, you will not hear one!” [7]

Ziyad Ibn Yunus, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“By Allah, Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, was the greatest of people in terms of honourabe behaviour, and the one who kept silent the most. When he sat down, he would not get up until he had to, and I saw him as someone who was often silent, spoke little, and guarded his tongue”. Ibn Al-Mubarak said: “Malik was the most patient in dealing with people, and he would leave what did not concern him”. [8]

Al-Hasan Bin Salih, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“I scrutinised Al-Wara (the fear of Allah that makes one refrain from doubtful matters in order not to fall into haram) and did not find it more lacking in anything than the tongue”. [9]

Yunus Ibn Ubayd, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Indeed, you see a man fasting a lot, abstaining from the forbidden deeds and praying the night prayer, whilst he testifies to falsehood in the morning.”  [10]

Ibnul Mubarak, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked about the statement of Luqman, peace be upon him, to his son: “If speech is from silver, then silence is from gold”. He said: “It means that if speech in obedience to Allah is from silver, then silence (to refrain from) disobedience to Allah is gold”. [11]

Hearts Granted Tranquillity and Purpose Recalled Through the Remembrance of the All-Mighty

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Exalted, said:

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. [Al-Rad 28]

Allah said:

Allah has sent down the best statement, a Book (this Quran), its parts resembling each other in goodness and truth, oft-repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it (when they recite it or hear it). Then their skin and their heart soften to the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah. He Guides therewith whom He pleases and whomever Allah sends astray, for him there is no guide. [Al-Zumar 23]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The religion is based on two matters: remembrance of Allah, which necessitates having knowledge and awareness of Allah, and being grateful to Him, which necessitates obedience to Him through acts of worship and (refraining from disobedience). This is the purpose behind the creation of the Jinn, mankind, the heavens and the earth- the reason for which reward and punishment are determined, (the reason for which) Allah revealed the Books and sent the Messengers. It is the truth for which the heavens, the earth and what is between them were created, and what is in opposition to it is falsehood, such as the assumption held by the enemies of Allah that there is no purpose behind the creation [free is Allah from what they attribute to Him].

Allah, The Most High, said:

And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the assumption of those who disbelieve!]

Allah, The Most High, said:

And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play; We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones).

Allah, The Most High, said:

And We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except with truth, and the Hour is surely coming…

Allah, The Most High, said:

Allah did not create this but in truth.

Allah, The Most High, said:

Does man think that he will be left Suda [neglected without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allah) on him]?”

Allah, The Most High, said:

Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?”

Allah, The Most High, said:

And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone)

Allah, The Most High, said:

It is Allah Who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah surrounds (comprehends) all things in (His) Knowledge.

Therefore, based on what has (already) been mentioned, it has been established that the purpose behind the creation and the Command is so that Allah is remembered and thanked. Allah is to be remembered and not forgotten, and He should be thanked and not shown ingratitude. Allah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] acknowledges the one who remembers Him, and He is Ready to appreciate good deeds and to recompense the one who is grateful to Him. Remembrance of Allah is the reason Allah acknowledges the one who does so. Being grateful to Allah is the reason why a person is given an increase in blessings and favours. Remembrance of Allah is to be carried out with the heart and tongue; gratitude is to be carried out with one’s heart- out of love for Allah and constantly turning to Him in repentance and obedience with true faith [Islamic Monotheism]. Extolling and praising Him is to be carried out with one’s tongue and being obedient to Him (by performing acts of obedience). [An Excerpt from Al-Fawa’id 192-194]

One of the benefits of Dhikr is that it is a reason behind one being declared truthful by Allah, because indeed the one who remembers Allah [is in reality] speaking about Allah’s Perfect Attributes and Exalted Characteristics. So, when a person speaks about [Allah’s Perfect Attributes and Exalted Characteristics], Allah declares that what he [i.e. the person] says is true, and whoever is declared truthful by Allah will not be resurrected with the liars; instead, is hoped that he will be resurrected with the truthful ones. Abee Ishaq narrated from Al-Aghar Bin Muslim who bore witness that Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudree, may Allah be pleased with them, said that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“When the servant says, ‘Laa ilaaha illal-laah Wa Allahu Akbar “None has the right to be worshipped except Allah and Allah is the Most Great”, Allah says, ‘My servant has spoken the truth; none has the right to be worshipped except I, and I am the Most Great.’ When he says, “Laa ilaaha Illal laahu Wahdahu “None has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone”, Allah says, ‘My servant has spoken the truth; none has the right to be worshipped except I, alone.’ When he says, “Laa ilaha Ilal laah, laa Shareekalahu “None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, He has no partner or (associate)”, Allah says, ‘My servant has spoken the truth; none has the right to be worshipped except I, and I have no partner (or associate).’ When he says, “Laa ilaaha illal laah, lahul Mulku Wa lahul Hamdu “None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, all dominion is His and all praise is to Him”,’ Allah says, ‘My servant has spoken the truth; none has the right to be worshipped except I, all dominion is Mine and all praise is due to Me.’ When he says: “Laa ilaaha illal laa, laa hawla wa la quwwata illaa billah “None has the right to be worshipped except Allah and there is no power and nor strength (given to anything to move or alternate from one state to another except by the will of) Allah”, Allah says, ‘My servant has spoken the truth; none has the right to be worshipped except I, and there is no power and nor strength (given to anything to move or alternate from one state to another except by My Will).’ One of the narrators Abu Ishaq said: “Then Agharr said something that I did not understand. I said to Abu Jafar: ‘What did he say?’ He said: ‘Whoever is blessed with (the ability to say) them [i.e. these words] at the time of death, the Fire will not touch him.'” [Sunan Ibn Maajah. Number 3794. Sunan Tirmidhee 3430. As-Sahihah. Number 1390]

From the benefits of Dhikr is that profuse remembrance of Allah is a safeguard against hypocrisy, for indeed the hypocrites remember Allah very little. Allah said about the hypocrites: [وَلَا يَذۡكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلاً۬  – And they do not remember Allah but little]. [An-Nisaa 142]
Ka’b said: “Whoever remembers Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, a lot, he will be free from hypocrisy.’’ And perhaps this is why Allah ended Surah Al-Munaafiqoon with the statement:

O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers]. [Al-Munaafiqoon. 9]

This is because (the Ayah) contains a warning against the Fitna of the hypocrites, who are heedless of Allah’s remembrance, thus fall into hypocrisy. Little remembrance of Allah is one of the signs of hypocrisy, therefore profuse remembrance of Allah is a safeguard against hypocrisy.

From the benefits of Dhikr is that it is a healing for the hearts and a remedy for its diseases. Mak’hool Bin Abdillah said, “Mentioning Allah is a remedy [i.e. it purifies the heart] and mentioning the people [i.e. by way of impermissible speech] is a disease”. Also Dhikr removes hardness of the heart, for there is a hardness in the heart that cannot go away except through Dhikr. A man came to Hasan Al-Basri and said, “O Abu Sa’eed! I complain to you about the hardness of my heart”, he said, “Expel it through remembrance of Allah.”

From the benefits of Dhikr is that Allah will be a close ally of the one who remembers Him. Allah will love, support and grant him Tawfeeq [i.e. guide him and enable him to act upon that guidance], just as Allah said:

Truly, Allah is with those who fear Him (i.e. He grants them aid and assistance (1), and those who are Muhsinoon (good-doers). [An-Nahl. 128]

Allah said:

And Allah is with the patient ones (i.e. He grants them aid and assistance. (2) [Al-Baqarah. 249]

Allah said: [وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ – And verily, Allah is with the good doers (i.e. He grants them aid and assistance (3). [Al-Ankabut. 69]

The one who remembers Allah has a great share of this, just as it has been reported in a Hadith Qudsee: “Allah says: ‘I am with My slave  when he remembers Me and his lips move while mentioning Me. [i.e. I grant him aid, assistance, help, guide and grant him the ability to act upon that guidance”. (4) [Ibn Maajah 3792]

From the benefits of Dhikr is that it brings about blessings [or bounties] and repels vengeance. There’s nothing that earns a person blessing and repels vengeance in a manner [more effective] than remembrance of Allah. Allaah said: [إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدَٲفِعُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ‌ۗ   – Truly, Allah defends those who believe]. [Al-Hajj 38]

Allah’s defence for a person is based on the strength of the person’s Iman and its perfection, and the essence of Iman and its strength is remembrance of Allah. So whoever’s Iman is more perfect and his remembrance (of Allah) is more, his share will be greater [i.e. he’ll receive more protection from Allah].

Reflections on some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [104]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

And by Allah! Falling from the sky to the earth is easier (lesser in severity) for me than lying about Allah or a Muslim. And by Allah! Falling from the sky and dying a thousand times is easier (lesser in severity) for me than deceiving anyone (or acting treacherously towards them), even if he is an unbeliever, let alone a Muslim. And it is easier (lesser in severity) for me than failing to fulfil a trust with regards to transmitting (reports) and knowledge (i.e. lesser in severity for me than twisting statements, misconstruing etc).  [Paraphrased]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

وقال تعالى: { وَإِنْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا فَإِنْ بَغَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الْأُخْرَى فَقَاتِلُوا الَّتِي تَبْغِي حَتَّى تَفِيءَ إِلَى أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ْ}

Allah, The Most High, said:

There is no good in most of their secret talks except (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah’s Cause), or that which is right, or conciliation between mankind, and he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allah, We shall give him a great reward. [An-Nisaa 114]

Meaning: There is no good in most of secret counsels held by the people and speak about. And if there is no good in it, then either there is no benefit in it due to excessive permissible speech or evil and absolute harm, such as all types of forbidden speech. Then He, The Most High, made an exception, saying:

[ إِلَّا مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ – Except (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah’s Cause)], such as wealth, knowledge, or any type of benefit. In fact, conceivably (hopefully), the personal acts of worship are included, such as Tasbih, Tamhid and what is similar, as the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Indeed, there is charity in every Tasbihah, charity in every Takbir, charity in every Tahlil; enjoining good and forbidding evil is charity, and there is charity in the sexual relations of one of you”.

[أَوْ مَعْرُوفٍ – or that which is right], (which) is kindness, obedience (to Allah and His Messenger), and everything whose goodness is known through the Shariah and sound intellect. And when the command to enjoin good is mentioned without being associated with prohibition against evil, the prohibition of evil is included, since the abandonment of what is forbidden is part of doing good. Also, the doing of good cannot be accomplished except by abandoning evil. As for when both are mentioned together, the word Al-Maruf is explained to mean doing what is commanded and Al-Munkar as abandoning what is forbidden.

[ أَوْ إِصْلَاحٍ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ – or conciliation between mankind]

Reconciliation does not take place except between disputing people (groups, factions etc). Differing and argumentation inevitably (leads to) evil and splitting that is inestimable, thus, the Ultimate Lawgiver urges towards reconciliation between the people (in matters pertaining) to bloodshed, wealth, and honour, and in fact in religion, as He, The Most High, said:

And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Quran), and be not divided among yourselves.

And He, The Most High, said:

If two parties among the believers should fight (each other), then make settlement between them (through the Book of Allāh). But if one of them revolts against the other (and refuses compliance with the judgement of Allāh’s Book), then fight you (all) against the one that revolts until it complies with the command of Allāh.

https://www.thenoblequran.com/q/#/search/49_9 [Footnote a]

He, The Most High, said: [وَالصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ – and making peace is better (the best thing to do)]. [Footnote b]

The one who endevours to bring about reconciliation between the people is better than the one who is devoted to (optional) prayer, fasting, and charity. Allah will bless the efforts and actions of the reconciler, just as Allah will neither set right the action of the one who endevours to cause corruption nor will He will He make him attain his goal (or objective), as He, The Most High, said:

Verily, Allah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidun (the evil-doers, corrupters). [Yunus 81]

Whenever (and wherever) these matters are carried out (accomplished), they are good, as demonstrated by this exclusion (i.e. as stated in the Ayah Nisaa 114 that there is no good in most of their secret talks except (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah’s Cause), or that which is right, or conciliation between mankind).

However, the perfection of the reward and its completeness depend on the intention and sincerity, thus, He (Allah) said:

And he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allah, We shall give him a great reward.

Therefore, it is incumbent upon a servant (of Allah) to seek the face of Allah, The Most High, sincerely devote deeds to Allah at all times and in every aspect of goodness, so that through this he may attain the great reward, cultivate sincerity and be from the sincere ones, and so that the reward will be completed (accomplished), regardless of whether the objective is achieved or not, since the intention has been accomplished and associated with the action that could be carried out. [1]

We ask Allah:

O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public…[2]

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [Sahih Muslim. 2720] [3]

——————————————

Footnote a: Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim concerning reconciliation during conflict:

Allah commanded the reconciliation between the two warring factions initially. However, if one side oppresses the other, then the obligation shifts to fighting against the transgressor rather than seeking peace, as they are unjust. Attempting to reconcile in the face of such injustice undermines the rights of the oppressed group. Many unjust individuals who claim to be peacemakers often mediate between the powerful oppressor and the weak victim in a way that favours the powerful, believing they have achieved harmony, while in reality, they deny the oppressed their rightful claims. This is injustice; rather, the wronged party should be allowed to reclaim their rights. They can then be asked, with their consent, to forgo a portion of their rights without favouritism towards those in power, ensuring that there is no coercion involved in favouring others”.

A reconciliation that permits the forbidden and prohibits the permissible is similar to the agreement that forbids a lawful act, allows an unlawful act, enslaves a free person, alters lineage, waives an obligation, suspends a punishment, or inflicts injustice on a third party. The permissible reconciliation among Muslims is one that is based on Allāh’s Pleasure and the satisfaction of both parties involved (based on justice). This represents the most just and rightful form of settlement, grounded in knowledge and fairness. The mediator should be well-informed about the circumstances, aware of their responsibilities, and committed to justice. The merit of this role is even greater than that of the (optional) fasting and prayer of a person, as the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him, said: ‘Shall I not inform you of something more excellent in degree than (voluntary) fasting, prayer and almsgiving?’ The people replied: ‘Certainly O Prophet of Allah!’ He said: “It is working for reconciliation between people, and spoiling it is the shaver (destruction)”. [Abu Dawud 4919]

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Whoever has wronged his brother, should ask for his pardon (before his death), as (in the Hereafter) there will be neither a Dinar nor a Dirham. (He should secure pardon in this life) before some of his good deeds are taken and paid to his brother, or, if he has done no good deeds, some of the bad deeds of his brother are taken to be loaded on him (in the Hereafter). [Al-Bukhari 6534] [4]

Footnote b: Imam As-As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

It is understood from the generality of this wording and meaning that reconciliation between parties – who owe rights to each other or are in dispute – in all matters is better than if each part persist on receiving their full rights, due to what is found in it, such as reconciliation, the maintaining of harmony and embracing the characteristic of forgiveness. It is permissible in all matters except when makes the unlawful lawful or makes what is lawful unlawful, for it it would not be regarded as reconciliation, instead it would be injustice (oppression, inequity). Hungry for Influence and Conflict of Interest

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep are not more harmful than a person’s craving after wealth and status is to his Religion.” [1]

Imam Muhamad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Two hungry wolves let loose on a flock! Then what will remain from the flock?! Even when a single wolf stops eating because its stomach is full, it still kills the rest of the flock, then what about two hungry wolves let loose on a flock!! Not a single will remain. Likewise, a person who craves for wealth or status will corrupt the religion. Because of this, it is obligated to a person that his intention is far removed from this- far removed from craving for wealth and status in the religion. We ask Allah to aid us to accomplish this”. [2]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The seeker of leadership – even through falsehood- is pleased with a statement that contains an exaltation of him, even if it is falsehood. He becomes angered by a statement that contains a rebuke against him, even if it is truth. The (true) believer is pleased with a statement of truth whether it is for or against him and he is angered by a statement of falsehood whether it is for or against him. This is because Allah, The Most High, loves truth, truthfulness and justice, and He hates lies and oppression. [3]

Imam Ibn Qudamah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Envy usually occurs between contemporaries, peers, brothers, and cousins due to everyone’s competing aspirations, which causes strife and animosity. As a result, you will find that a scholar would envy another scholar but not a worshipper, a worshipper would envy another worshipper but not a scholar, a trader would envy another trader and a cobbler would envy another cobbler. The love of material things, which are limited for those who compete for them, is the root cause of this affair”. [4]

The Imam, may Allah have mercy upon him, also stated:

As for the afterlife, there are no restrictions because the one who loves knowledge and awareness of Allah, knowledge, and awareness of Allah’s angels, Allah’s Prophets, and Allah’s Mighty Dominion over the heavens and the earth, will not envy others after becoming acquainted with these affairs because they are not restricted by one another; rather, one particular individual (upright) scholar is known by thousands of (upright) scholars, and they rejoice because of the understanding he possesses. This is why there is no envy among (upright) scholars since their goal is to gain knowledge and awareness of Allah [Glorified be He and free from all imperfections], which is a vast affair. Their goal is to attain a high status in the Sight of Allah, and that which Allah has kept in the afterlife is unlimited because Allah’s loftiest blessing is the pleasure of meeting Him, which cannot be prevented or restricted, nor can some competitors in the affair make it restricted for others; instead harmony is enhanced as the competitors increase; but if wealth and status become the scholars’ goal, they will envy one another.

The difference between knowledge and wealth is that wealth does not remain in the hands of a single person, whereas knowledge settles in the heart of a scholar and the heart of the one taught by the scholar while remaining in the heart of the scholar. As a result, whoever contemplates the Greatness of Allah and His Mighty Dominion [i.e. pondering upon what Allah has created and upon the divine revelation], it will become the greatest delight for him than any other blessing, because he cannot be prevented or restricted from doing so. He will not be envious of anyone because even if others were aware of what he is aware of, it would not diminish his pleasure in the affair. You do not find people overcrowded to view the beauty of the sky because it is vast and unrestricted.

Therefore, if you are merciful to yourself, then it is obligated that you seek the bliss in which there is no hindrance and pleasure that never ceases. And the only way to find this in the life of this world is to become familiar with knowledge and awareness of Allah and the magnificent essence of His Dominion (over everything). However, if your desire is weak and you do not yearn to acquaint yourself with the knowledge and awareness of Allah, you will not find or experience its pleasure. As a result, you’re not man enough because this is a man’s affair, and yearning for something occurs after experiencing it. The one who has not tasted will not know, the one who does not know will not yearn, the one who does not yearn will not seek, the one who does not seek will not find (anything), and the one who does not find (anything) will be among the deprived. [5]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih, may Allah have mercy upon them, said:

O student of knowledge! It is obligated to you to abandon (blameworthy) debate and argumentation because debate and argumentation is a means to cutting off the path to what is correct, makes a person speak to give the upper hand to himself. Even if the truth is made clear to him, you will find him either rejecting it or misconstruing the truth -out of disliking it- to give himself the upper hand and compel his opponent to accept his statement. Therefore, if you notice (blameworthy) debate and argumentation from your brother when the truth is very clear, but he does not follow it, flee from him like you would flee from a lion, and say, “I do not have anything other than the truth I have mentioned to you”. (6)

Stay out of it!

The goal is to leave this world free from Fitan!

We also ask Allah:

O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity, etc) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). [6] The Character Trait Most Hated By The Messenger

Abdullah Bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, said:

Abu Sufyan bin Harb informed me [i.e. about an incident that took place when he was not a Muslim] that Heraclius had sent a messenger to him while he had been accompanying a caravan from Quraish. They were merchants doing business in Sham (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan), at the time when Allah’s Apostle had a truce with Abu Sufyan and Quraish infidels. So Abu Sufyan and his companions went to Heraclius at Ilya (Jerusalem).

Heraclius called them in the court and he had all the senior Roman dignitaries around him. He called for his translator who, translating Heraclius’s question said to them, “Who amongst you is closely related to that man who claims to be a Prophet?” Abu Sufyan replied, “I am the nearest relative to him (amongst the group).” Heraclius said, ‘Bring him [i.e. Abu Sufyan] close to me and make his companions stand behind him.” Abu Sufyan added, that Heraclius told his translator to tell my companions that he wanted to put some questions to me regarding that man (The Prophet) and that if I told a lie they (my companions) should contradict me.” Abu Sufyan added, “By Allah! Had I Not Been Afraid of my companions labelling me a liar, I would not have spoken the truth about him [i.e. The Prophet]. [Sahih Al-Bukhari. Hadith umber 7]

Regarding Abu Sufyan’s statement: “By Allah! Had I not been afraid of my companions labelling me a liar, I would not have spoken the truth about him (i.e. The Prophet)”;

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated in Fat-hul Baari that this shows that they (i.e. the pagan Arabs) used to abhor lying either due to what they followed from the previously revealed laws [i.e. the Shariah of Prophets Ibrahim and Isma’eel – peace be upon them] or it was something abhorred in their customs. [1]

Mufti, Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

Calling to the path of Allah is not in need of lying. It is not permissible to utilise lying in calling to the path of Allah. Calling to the path of Allah is founded on truth—the Book, the sunnah, fine admonition, and arguing in a way that is better and not through lying.” [2]

Beware! Relentless Repetition Is Used Nowadays On Social Media to Solidify Lies or Misinformation

Gustave Le Bon, in his work “The Psychology of Crowds,” asserts that when we aim to gradually instill ideas and beliefs into the collective spirit of the masses, the methods employed by leaders vary significantly. They primarily resort to three fundamental techniques: affirmation, repetition, and contagion. While the impact of these methods may be slow, it is undeniably enduring. Political leaders advocating for a specific cause are well aware of the power of affirmation, just as industrialists recognise the importance of advertising their products. However, advertising only gains influence when coupled with repetition. Napoleon famously stated that there is but one serious form of rhetoric: repetition. Repetition possesses a certain authority that influences rational and well-informed individuals. It allows ideas to embed themselves in the recesses of the unconscious mind, gradually transforming into beliefs that are accepted as truths, ultimately becoming self-evident realities. When these ideas solidify into truths through repetition, they can spread among the masses. For instance, any disturbance among a flock of sheep quickly affects the entire group. This does not require a singular point of origin; the revolution in France in 1848 began in Paris and swiftly extended to a significant portion of Europe, destabilising the monarchies in its wake. The repetition that leads to belief in a particular issue, and consequently its spread, poses a significant risk not only in imposing opinions but also in shaping thought processes, emotions, and feelings. As a result, one may observe that the masses at one point may disdain a certain literary work, only to later take pride in it after several years, or vice versa. This phenomenon can similarly be applied to ideas and beliefs. [3]

Delving deeper into this topic reveals a range of ideologues, demagogues, and provocateurs who argue that people struggle to resist repeated messages. Initially, individuals might dismiss the content, but with ongoing exposure, their skepticism can shift to uncertainty, then bewilderment, and eventually, acceptance, causing them to view the message as truth. Consequently, they believe that relentless repetition is necessary for ideas to take root, thereby strengthening the propaganda that needs to be spread. It is profoundly disheartening to witness some Muslims resorting to such insidious tactics to tarnish reputations online. They perpetuate the same falsehoods, misconceptions, or half-truths in various forms and from multiple perspectives, all while resisting any challenge to their narratives. To remain silent in the face of such distortions would be an act of cowardice; it is imperative to articulate the truth whenever these fallacies are propagated. While it is true that not every instance of misinformation warrants a response, one must not be so naive as to underestimate the potential damage inflicted by those who disseminate their half-truths—whether overtly or covertly—to a targeted audience. When faced with someone who insists on force-feeding you their misconceptions through relentless repetition, maintain your composure and refrain from engaging in conflict. Instead, graciously persist in requesting for tangible clear proof to support their claims, undeterred by their frustration or the frequency of their assertions.

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The seeker of truth is not diverted from the truth, fairness and justice due to admiration of the big personalities and being amazed by them, for indeed the truth is more worthy to be followed. It is not permissible to drop the proofs for the sake of this or that great man. The principle [rule] of the Muslim – the unbiased one, the seeker of truth – is always: [قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ -Say, bring forth your proofs if you are truthful]. [Surah An-Nahl. Verse 64] [4]

Guidance for a University Principal Who Went Beyond Limits – By Imam Abdul Aziz Bin Baz

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

All praise and thanks belongs to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon Allah’s Messenger, his family and companions. To proceed:

I have seen what was published by As-Siyasah newspaper- issued on 7/24/1404 AH, Number 5644 – and attributed to the Principle of Sana’a University Abdul Azeez Al-Maqalih, in which he claimed that the demand to isolate female students from male students is in opposition to the Shariah, and he utilised as proof – for the permissibility of mixing – that Muslims from the era of of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to pray in the same mosque- men and women- and he said, “Therefore, education must be in one place”.

I was surprised to hear this speech from the principle of an Islamic university in an Islamic country, and asked him to direct his people – men and women – to what will lead to happiness and salvation in this worldly life and the Hereafter. There is no doubt that there is in this speech that which is tantamount to a great crime against the Islamic Shariah, because indeed the Shariah did not call for free mixing, such that the demand to prevent it would be in opposition to it; rather it forbids it and did so in a very strong manner, as Allah, The Most High, said:

And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance.  [Al-Ahzab. 33]

Allah, The Most High, said:

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Al-Ahzab. 59]

Allah, Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections, said:

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess…

And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. [An-Nur. 31]

Allah, The Most High, said:

And when you ask (the Prophet’s wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. [Al-Ahzab. 53]

In these noble verses, there is a clear demonstration that it is legislated for women to stay in their homes to guard against temptation, and that they only come out of their homes if there is a need. Then Allah warned them that they should not display themselves in a manner similar to the era of pre-Islamic ignorance, which is the display of their beauty and cause temptation among men. It has been authentically reported from Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said:

“I have not left after me a trial more harmful to men than women”.

This hadith is agreed upon (i.e. recorded by Al-Bukhari and Muslim) and it was narrated by Usamah Bin Zayd, may Allah be pleased with him.

Imam Muslim recorded in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Usamah and Sa’eed Bin Zayd Bin Amr Bin Nufayl, may Allah be pleased with them both, and also in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said:

“Verily the worldly life is sweet and green, and verily Allah is going to place you as successors upon it in and will see how you act. So, be mindful of the worldly life and be mindful of women, because indeed the first trial for the Children of Israa’eel was due to women”. [Muslim. 2742]

And indeed Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, spoke the truth, because the temptation through women is great, especially in this era wherein most of them do not have the Hijab and they display themselves in a manner similar to the era of pre-Islamic ignorance. Immorality and evil has become rife due to this, and many youth (male and female)- in many countries- became reluctant to get married based on that which Allah has legislated. Indeed, Allah has made it clear that the Hijab is purer for the hearts of everyone and this shows that its removal is most likely to defile the hearts (i.e. corrupt the hearts) of everyone and deviating them from the path of truth.

It is known that the female student sitting with the male student is one of the greatest causes of temptation, one of the reasons for abandoning the Hijab (segregation) that is legislated by Allah for believing women and forbade them from showing their adornment others (i.e. non-Mahrams) (a), which Allah made known in the previous verse of Surah An-Nur. Whoever claims that the command regarding Hijab is only for the mothers of the believers is mistaken and far removed from what is correct – contradicted the many evidences demonstrating a general (command), and he has contradicted Allah’s statement: [ذَلِكُمْ أَطْهَرُ لِقُلُوبِكُمْ وَقُلُوبِهِنَّ – that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts]. (This is) because it is not permissible to say that the Hijab is purer for the hearts of the mothers of the believers and the male Companions and not for those after them. There is no doubt that those who came after the mothers of the believers and the male companions, may Allah be pleased with them, are more in need of Hijab, because of the great difference between them in the strength of faith and insight with regards to acquaintance with truth. This is because the Companions – men and women, including the mothers of the believers- are the best of people after the Prophets, peace be upon them, and the best of generations established by the Messenger’s, peace and blessings be upon him, statement in the hadith recorded in the Sahihayn [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].(b) Therefore, when it is the case that Hijab was purer for their hearts, then those who came after them have a far greater need of this purity.

It is not permissible to specify the texts of the Qur’an and the Sunnah to anyone in the Ummah without valid evidence that shows this specification; therefore, they are generally applied to all the Ummah during the era of the Messenger and after him until the Day of Resurrection. (This is) because, Allah sent His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, to humankind and Jinn during his era and after him until the Day of Resurrection, as Allah  said:

And We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a giver of glad tidings and a warner to all humankind. [Saba. 28]

The Noble Qur’an was not only revealed to the people of the Prophet’s era, rather it was also revealed to those after them, as Allah said:

This (Qur’an) is a Message for humankind (and a clear proof against them), in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that He is the only One Ilah (God – Allah) – (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), and that men of understanding may take heed. [Ibrahim 52]

Allah said:

This Qur’an has been revealed to me that I may therewith warn you and whomsoever it may reach. [Al-An’am. 19]

In the era of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, women did not intermingle with men- neither in mosques nor in the markets – (in the manner people intermingle nowadays), which the callers to rectification forbid in this era- (the type intermingling which) the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the scholars of the Ummah warn against to caution against temptation; rather, women – in the Prophet’s mosque – prayed behind the men in the last rows- away from the men. The Prophet used yo say:

“The best rows for the men are the first ones and the worst are the last ones. The best of the women’s rows are the last ones and the worst of them is the first”.

During the era of the Prophet, the men were commanded to wait until the women left the mosque so that the men would not mingle with them at the doors of the mosques, despite the Iman and piety they had; so how about those after them?! Women were forbidden from walking in the middle of the road in order to be careful of having contact with men, thus temptation occurs through touching each other when walking on the road. Allah commanded the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies so that they cover their adornment with it, in order to prevent temptation. Allah forbade them from showing their adornment to other than those mentioned by Allah in His Mighty Book (c) in order to curtail the causes of temptation, urge towards chastity and distance from the manifestations of corruption and (the evil effects) of free mixing.

So, how can the principle of Sana’a University – may Allah guide and inspire him to His guidance – after all this call for mixing?! He claims that Islam calls to it- that the university campus is like a mosque and the hours of study are like the hours of prayer! For the one who understands Allah’s command and prohibition, knows Allah’s wisdom in what He has legislated for His servants and explained in His Great Book with regards to rulings for men and women, it is well-known that there is a great difference between these matters and the difference is vast. How is it permissible for a believer to say that a female student sitting with a male student is like sitting with her sisters in their rows behind the men (in the Masjid)?! No one with the least handhold of Iman and insight (in this matters) would say this. We might not even be safe together with the presence of the legislated Hijab, so how about if she is sitting with the male student while dressed in an un-Islamic manner, displaying her beauty and attractive looks, and with speech that will lead to temptation? Allah’s Aid is sought, and there is no power nor might except with Allah. Allah said:

Verily, it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts which are in the breasts that grow blind. [Al-Hajj. 46]

As for his statement: “Indeed, since the time of the Messenger, Muslims have been performing prayer in the same mosque, men and women, and therefore education must be in one place)”, the answer to this is: this is true, but the women were at the back of the mosques with Hijab – with care and being careful of what would cause temptation, and the men were at the front of the mosque. They [i.e. the women] used to listen to admonitions and sermons, participated in prayer and learned the rulings of their religion from what they heard and witnessed. The Prophet,  peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to go to them on the day of Eid – because they were at a distance and could not hear the sermon – after delivering admonition to the men and gave them an admonition and reminder. There is no problem in all of this, but the problem is in the statements of the principle of Sana’a University -may Allah guide him, reform his heart, and give him understanding of his religion. How is it permissible for him to compare education in our time with women praying behind men in one mosque, although there is a vast difference between the reality of education that is known today and the reality of women praying behind men in the Prophet’s era?!

Due to this reason, the callers to rectification call for the separation of women and men in the arena of education:

Women in a separate place and the young men in another, so that a female can acquire knowledge from female teachers with comfort without Hijab or hardship, because the time period for education is longer than the time period of prayer.

Due to the fact that learning from female teachers in a specific place (i.e. away from men) protects everyone and keeps them away from the causes of temptation, and it is the safest thing for young men not to get tempted through women.

And because young men being alone and separated from girls, together with the fact that it is the safest thing for them against temptation, is most likely to make them pay attention to their lessons and occupy themselves with it- listening well to teachers and receiving knowledge from the teachers while distanced from paying attention to girls, being preoccupied with them, exchanging glances that will intoxicate the hearts and mind with evil desires and statements that leads to immorality.

As for his claim, may Allah rectify him, that the call to isolate female students from male students is tantamount to rigidity and an opposition to the Shariah, this is an untrue claim; rather separating male students from female students is an act of sincere devotion to Allah, sincere advice to Allah’s servants, taking good care of the religion ordained by Allah and adherence to what has already been transmitted from noble verses of the Qur’an and the two Prophetic reports. My advice to the principle of Sana’a University is to fear Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, repent to Allah for what he has done, return to the truth and what is correct, because indeed returning to (truth and what is correct) is virtue itself, a proof regarding the search for truth and equity by the student of knowledge.

And Allah is the One asked to guide all of us to the path of righteousness, protect us and other Muslims from speaking about Him without knowledge, (protect us) from the misleading trials and Shaytan’s enmity, just as we ask Allah to grant success to the scholars of the Muslims and their leaders – in every place – to that which contains rectification (uprightness, wellbeing) for the country and the servants, in this life and the next; and to guide everyone to the straight path, for Allah is Jawwaadun Kareem [Al-Jawwaad – “The Munificent. The One Whose generosity covers everything in existence. The One Who gives liberally and generously to those in need – even when they reject and disbelieve in Him. The One Who – from His generosity – has prepared in Paradise for His believing servants that which no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard of, and which has never been imagined by anyone”, Al-Kareem “The Bountiful, The Generous One. Abundant in good. The One Who causes and makes easy every good. And Who bestows generously. The One so generous that He even bestows favors upon those who reject His favors, and use them as a means to disobey Him”]. (d) And may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of judgement.

[5] The Character Trait Most Hated By The Messenger

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her said:

There was no behaviour more hateful to Allāh’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, than lying. A man would tell a lie when speaking in the presence of the Prophet, and he would not be satisfied until he knew that he had repented from it. [at-Tirmidhi‌ 1973]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

All praise and thanks be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon Allah’s Messenger, his family, his companions and those who follow his guidance. To proceed:

Indeed, lying is repugnant and heinous – considered extremely repugnant and loathsome by the Islamic legislation, sound intellect and sound natural disposition; abhorred in all nations, all religions and creeds. Indeed, Allah made it forbidden in all messages of the Messengers, dispraised lying and liars in many verses and promised them the severest punishment. Allah, The Blessed and Exalted, said:

Say (O Muhammad):“(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawahish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allah for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge]. [Al-A’raf. 33]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, held that the most loathsome and greatest of these unlawful deeds is to speak about Allah without knowledge, since Shirk and Kufr did not occur except from lying. Allah said:

And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not, etc.) that of which you have no knowledge (e.g. one’s saying: “I have seen,” while in fact he has not seen, or “I have heard,” while he has not heard). Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allah)].

Allah said:

And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: “This is lawful and this is forbidden,” so as to invent lies against Allah. Verily, those who invent lies against Allah will never prosper. A passing brief enjoyment (will be theirs), but they will have a painful torment. [An-Nahl. 116-117]

Allah forbade lying and mentioned it alongside shirk. Allah said:

So shun the abomination (worshipping) of idol, and shun lying speech (false statements). Hunafa’ Lillah (i.e. to worship none but Allah), not associating partners (in worship, etc.) unto Him and whoever assigns partners to Allah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him to a far off place. [Al-Hajj. 30-31]

This dangerous Shirk is established on lies and it is its greatest foundation and principle. Allah considers it as the severest type of wrongdoing. Allah said:

And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allah, while he is being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers) folk. They intend to extinguish the Light of Allah with their mouths. But Allah will complete His Light even though the disbelievers hate (it). [As-Saff. 7-8]

Allah clarified their filthy goals and evil intentions, and that through their lies and fabrications, they intend to extinguish Allah’s guidance, His proofs, evidences and mighty signs. This is the same regarding everyone amongst the people of desires who wages war against the truth and its adherents, for they want to extinguish Allah’s guidance, nullify His proofs and evidences in order to give the upper hand to their falsehoods and misguidance. Allah, The Exalted, stated regarding lying and the liars:

Then, who does more wrong than one who utters a lie against Allah, and denies the truth when it comes to him! Is there not in Hell an abode for the disbelievers?] [Az-Zumar. 32]

This is the recompense for the liars. Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Avoid the seven destructive sins: Shirk, witchcraft, killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden to be killed, except in cases dictated by Islamic law; consuming usury, consuming the orphans’ wealth, fleeing from the battlefield and slandering chaste, innocent women”.

He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, placed slander- and it is one of the most loathsome types of lies – amongst these major sins that Allah commanded us to avoid due to its danger; rather the one who commits this slander is cursed in this life and the hereafter. Allah, The Exalted, said:

Verily, those who accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are good believers, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter, and for them will be a great torment]. [Surah an-Noor. Aayah 23]

Allah, The Exalted, stated with hatred towards the one who transmits lies and neither pondered nor had sound knowledge of the affair:

When you were propagating it with your tongues, and uttering with your mouths that whereof you had no knowledge, you counted it a little thing, while with Allah it was very great. And why did you not, when you heard it, say? “It is not right for us to speak of this. Glory be to You (O Allah) this is a great lie.” Allah forbids you from it and warns you not to repeat the like of it forever, if you are believers. [An-Nur . 15-17]

Allah said:

Verily, those who like that (the crime of) illegal sexual intercourse should be propagated among those who believe, they will have a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you know not]. [An-Nur 19]

This severe threat of punishment and dispraise is connected to slandering chaste women, and what is more dangerous than it is slandering those believers who are innocent- those who strive in the path of Allah, the callers to the path of Allah with truth and clear proofs. Indeed, the people of desires – those who wage war against the truth and its adherents – think that this is specific to the act of slandering chaste women!  Depraved is the thinking of the one who has this corrupt understanding! Indeed, this includes the one who violates the honour of the Muslims, especially the honour of the callers to the truth who are innocent, for indeed their honour has a great status that must be protected and not violated. It maybe that the one who violates this honour is more deserving of curse and punishment than the one who slanders chaste women due to a personal or worldly affair. Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Whoever argues based on falsehood knowingly will not cease to be under the wrath of Allah until he stops. And whoever says about a believer that which is not true, he will reside in Radghat Al-Khabaal [pus] until he recants”.

The one who knowingly argues based on falsehood as well as the one who says about a believer that which is not true, his recompense as it is stated is that  he will be imprisoned in the pus of the people of the hell fire. This is an authentic hadith that was reported by Abu Dawud, Ahmad and Al-Haakim. Return to As-Sahihah 338 by Al-Albaani, may Allah have mercy upon him.

He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“The worst form of usury is the violation of someone’s honour” – meaning the honour of those who are innocent. He said: “Verily, the worst act of usury is a man’s attack against the honour of his brother”. [As-Sahihah 1433 by Al-Albani and the other hadeeth that support this hadith] [Footnote a]

Allah, The Exalted, stated about those who lend an ear to lies and those affected by it amongst the Yahud, the Munaafiqoon and those who follow their way:

O Messenger (Muhammad)! Let not those who hurry to fall into disbelief grieve you, of such who say: “We believe” with their mouths but their hearts have no faith. And of the Yahood are men who listen much and eagerly to lies – listen to others who have not come to you. They change the words from their places; they say, “If you are given this, take it, but if you are not given this, then beware!” And whomsoever Allah wants to put in Al-Fitnah [error, because of his rejecting the Faith], you can do nothing for him against Allah. Those are the ones whose hearts Allah does not want to purify (from disbelief and hypocrisy); for them there is a disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a great torment. [Al-Ma’idah. 41]

Look at what is these verses regarding dispraise and severe disparagement for those who lend an ear to lies, those who transmit it in the world – and Allah’s refuge is sought- whilst not pondering and ascertaining, and not looking into the reality.

Indeed, the opponents of Ahlus Sunnah – amongst ahlul ahwaa (the followers of vain desires)- receive  pleasure from a share of these characteristics. Hypocrisy is feared for some of them lest these blameworthy characteristics applies to them, as well as the dispraise and punishment as a result. One of the punishments for liars is that which he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Beware of lying, for indeed lying leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to the fire. And a man does not cease telling lies and endeavour to tell lies until he is written [i.e. judged] by Allah as a liar”.

Rather lying can lead to major hypocrisy, Allah, The Exalted, said:

And of them are some who made a covenant with Allah (saying): “If He bestowed on us of His Bounty, we will verily, give Sadaqah (Zakat and voluntary charity in Allah’s Cause) and will be certainly among those who are righteous.” Then when He gave them of His Bounty, they became niggardly [refused to pay the Sadaqah (Zakat or voluntary charity)], and turned away, averse. So He punished them by putting hypocrisy into their hearts till the Day whereon they shall meet Him, because they broke that (covenant with Allah) which they had promised Him and because they used to tell lies. [at-Tawbah. 75-77]

Lying and breaking covenants plunged them into the sludge of hypocrisy – and Allah’s Refuge is sought, and the Messenger stated that lying is one of the signs of hypocrisy. He said:

“The signs of a hypocrite are three: Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise), and when trusted, he proves to be treacherous”.

Among the punishments for lying is that which the noble Messenger- the possessor of the highest moral character – has related  in a long hadith: “I saw two men who came to me and said, ‘The one you saw his jaw being torn apart is a liar. He used to tell a lie until it reaches the furthest regions and it was transmitted from him until the Day of Resurrection’”. He saw that man in whose mouth was placed an iron hook and torn off until it reached his ear; then the angel turned to the other jaw and tore it apart until it reached the man’s other ear, and then it returns as it was. And he will carry on with that until the day of Resurrection, just as the Messenger related. This is from the recompense for the liars. Numerous are liars today against the callers and carriers of the Salafi Dawah. They are able to disseminate cruel rumours till they reach the world using various means made available to them in this era. They divert people from Allah’s path and seek to make it crooked in order to further their falsehoods, twaddle, and dangerous innovations in religion that destroy sound belief, sound Islamic approaches to various subjects, and virtuous manners.

Indeed, Iblees – the cursed one and may Allah curse him- is the leader of the liars. He is the first of the liars and their leader, the first deceiver and betrayer. Allah, The Most High, said:

And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrong-doers).” Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: “Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals.” And he [Shaitan (Satan)] swore by Allah to them both (saying): “Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both.” So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). And their Lord called out to them (saying): “Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?” [Al-A’raf. 19-22]

Look at the wicked one! He said to them, “Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree save you should become angels – out of fear that you might become angles or immortals”. He swore by Allah to them and Adam did not perceive that anyone would swear by Allah out of lying, thus he believed him and was deceived. He misled them. Allah, The Exalted, said:

And (remember) when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves to Adam.” They prostrated (all) except Iblis (Satan), who refused. Then We said: “O Adam! Verily, this is an enemy to you and to your wife. So let him not get you both out of Paradise, so that you be distressed in misery. Verily, you have (a promise from Us) that you will never be hungry therein nor naked. And you (will) suffer not from thirst therein nor from the sun’s heat. Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered to him, saying : “O Adam! Shall I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?” Then they both ate of the tree, and so their private parts appeared to them, and they began to stick on themselves the leaves from Paradise for their covering. Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray. Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance. [Taa Haa. 116-122]

Look at how he deceived them, fabricated and lied to them, and said to them through the path of the sincere advisers: Shall I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?] He deceived them with this, so they ate from the tree and the outcome was that which Allah related that their private parts became apparent to them. So, out of shyness, [وَطَفِقَا يَخۡصِفَانِ عَلَيۡہِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ‌ۚ   – they began to stick on themselves the leaves from Paradise for their covering]. Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray. Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance. Thus is Allah’s Mercy for His friends; but Allah’s wrath, anger and curse has been ascertained against Iblees until the Day of Judgment, and he will be in Hell as the leader of those who will dwell in there forever.

Indeed, the followers of shaytan are the enemies of the truth in every era and place, and the enemies of the Messengers. Lying and slander is one of their greatest means (utilised) in their opposition to the Messengers and the mighty truth they brought, together with mighty and amazing signs. This is the path of every innovator in religious matters and a falsifier- he opposes the truth and its adherents through lies and slander; slandering the people of truth together with beautification of falsehood and adorning it for his followers, nullify their intellects and personalities. This adorned speech is through which falsehood is adopted from their leader Iblees – the cursed one, and from the followers of Fir’awn and the senior followers of Iblees, such as Fir’awn- the cursed one and may Allah deprived him of every good. He has many peers in this affair. Allah made known the lying and wickedness of this cursed one:

Has there come to you the story of Musa? When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa; go to Fir’aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). And say to him: “Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)”; and that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? Then [Moosaa] showed him the great sign (miracles). But [Fir’aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed. Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). Then he gathered his people and cried aloud, saying: “I am your lord, most high”, So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: “I am your lord, most high”)] and first [(i.e. his saying, “O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I” (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allah.

The enemy of Allah lied and said, “I am your Lord, most high”. Which lied can be more ugly than this wicked lie?! So Allah seized him for his lie, denial and disbelief, and made that an instructive admonition for those who fear Allah – those who give thought.

Among his lies was his statement to the magicians –when they believed after being defeated and subjugated through Allah’s amazing signs:

[Fir’aun (Pharaoh)] said: “Believe you in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission? Verily! He is your chief who taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you on the trunks of date-palms, and you shall surely know which of us [I (Fir’aun – Pharaoh) or the Lord of Musa (Moses) (Allah)] can give the severe and more lasting torment.” They said: “We prefer you not over the clear signs that have come to us, and to Him (Allah) Who created us. So decree whatever you desire to decree, for you can only decree (regarding) this life of the world. “Verily! We have believed in our Lord, that He may forgive us our faults, and the magic to which you did compel us. And Allah is better as regards reward in comparison to your [Fir’aun’s (Pharaoh)] reward, and more lasting (as regards punishment in comparison to your punishment).” [Taa Haa. 71-73]

Look at this wicked slanderer! He said to them when they believed and submitted:

Believe you in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission?]; then he invented this mighty slander:

Verily! He is your chief who taught you magic]- meaning, Musa, peace be upon him, when he brought those amazing signs.

The enemies of the Messengers did not confront them except with lies, falsely accused them of insanity, sorcery and what is similar to that. All this was from their lies and falsehoods, may Allah deprive them of every good. Many of Ahlul Ahwaa (the followers of vain desires) and Ahl Ad-Dalal (the people of misguidance) follow them in this manner by slandering the people of truth. Amongst the liars whom Allaah humiliated and made known their lies in the Qur’an are the Yahud, the Nasaaraa and the Mushrikoon in every religion and era, and amongst them were the pagan Arabs and their lies in matters of creed. Allah exposed them in various verses. Allah [تبارك وتعالى ] said: [وَيُنذِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُواْ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَدً۬ا – And to warn those who say, “Allah has begotten a son (or offspring or children)]. [Al-Kahf. 4]

This includes the Yahud, the Nasaaraa, the Hindus, the Buddhists and the pagan Arabs. Allah said:

And to warn those (Jews, Christians, and pagans) who say, “Allah has begotten a son (or offspring or children).” No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths [i.e. He begot (took) sons and daughters]. They utter nothing but a lie. [Al-Kahf. 4-5] – Meaning, attributing a son to Allah, which is nothing else but a mighty lie against. Thus, Allah humiliated them and made known their lie and slander. Allah said:

[And they say: “The Most Beneficent (Allah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: ‘Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son [‘Iesa (Christ)], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)].” Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing]. Meaning, a horrible thing [i.e. to attribute a son to Allah].

Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins; that they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Beneficent (Allah). But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Beneficent (Allah) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children). here is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Beneficent (Allah) as a slave. Verily, He knows each one of them, and has counted them a full counting. And everyone of them will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection (without any helper, or protector or defender). [Maryam. 90-95]

Allah made clear the danger of this lie and that the universe almost split asunder and cease to exist, and that the mountains almost fall in ruins due to this mighty slander which they fabricated about Allah. Allah freed himself from all imperfections, deficiencies, co-equals and partners with regards to this slander by way of which He was slandered by the Yahud, the Nasaaraa, the pagan Arabs and other than them amongst those who attributed a child to Him, whether Isa, peace be upon him, Uzayr, peace be upon him, the angels and others whom they attributed to Allah as His offspring based on lies and false testimony.

Allah said:

And the Jews (a sect among them) say: “Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah”, and the Christians say: “Messiah is the son of Allah”. That is a saying from their mouths. – meaning, lies.

[يُضَـٰهِـُٔونَ قَوۡلَ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ مِن قَبۡلُ‌ۚ قَـٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ أَنَّىٰ يُؤۡفَڪُونَ – They imitate the saying of the disbelievers of old. Allah’s Curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth!] [at-Tawbah. 30]

They took this belief – and Allah knows best – from the Hindus who preceded them in this horrendous disbelief and lies about Allah. All these people carry mighty lies – which cannot be enumerated here – related to matters of the Shariah and in declaring what is lawful and unlawful, such as what Allah has stated regarding the pagan Arabs, who made judgements about the Bahirah [a she-camel whose milk was spared for the idols and that nobody was allowed to milk it] or a Sa’ibah [a she-camel let loose for free pasture for their false gods and that nothing was allowed to be carried on it], or a Wasilah [a she-camel set free for idols because it has given birth to a she-camel at its first delivery and then again gives birth to a she-camel at its second delivery].

Allah stated when declaring this a lie:

Allah has not instituted things like Bahirah (a she-camel whose milk was spared for the idols and nobody was allowed to milk it) or a Sa’ibah (a she-camel let loose for free pasture for their false gods, e.g. idols, etc., and nothing was allowed to be carried on it), or a Wasilah (a she-camel set free for idols because it has given birth to a she-camel at its first delivery and then again gives birth to a she-camel at its second delivery) or a Ham (a stallion-camel freed from work for their idols, after it had finished a number of copulations assigned for it, all these animals were liberated in honour of idols as practised by pagan Arabs in the pre-Islamic period). But those who disbelieve invent lies against Allah, and most of them have no understanding]. [Al-Ma’idah. 103]

By Allah, they are liars and foolish people who are deprived of sound intellect. Allah said:

So eat of the lawful and good food which Allah has provided for you. And be grateful for the Graces of Allah, if it is He Whom you worship. He has forbidden you only Al-Maytatah (meat of a dead animal), blood, the flesh of swine, and any animal which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allah (or has been slaughtered for idols etc. or on which Allah’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, and not transgressing, then, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.  And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: “This is lawful and this is forbidden,” so as to invent lies against Allah. Verily, those who invent lies against Allah will never prosper. A passing brief enjoyment (will be theirs), but they will have a painful torment. [An-Nahl. 114-117]

This was an address to the Arabs who instituted things like Bahirah or a Sa’ibah, and due to this Allah declared this matter of theirs a lie. Allah made it known that what they declared unlawful or lawful is tantamount to lies invented about Allah, that the liars will not be successful, their enjoyment through lies and slanders is a brief enjoyment and an eternal punishment awaits them – a painful punishment.

Allah stated about the Yahud and Nasaaraa:

Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, “This is from Allah,” to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby]. [Al-Baqarah. 79]

Among the categories of liars are the Munaafiqoon and they are more dangerous for the society, especially the Islamic society. Due to this Allah spoke about them a lot, warned against them a lot and made known their characteristics in chapters of the Qur’an; rather there is an independent chapter of the Qur’an called Surah Al-Munaafiqoon. Allah exposed them, unveil their shame, hypocrisy and lies. And from that which Allah stated about them is:

[وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ – And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: “We believe in Allah and the Last Day” while in fact they believe not] – Meaning, they are liars.

They (think to) deceive Allah and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not!  In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies. And when it is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “We are only peacemakers.”

Look at this big claim! Rather

They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not]. Every liar and corrupt person in the earth does not tell the people that he is a corrupt person; rather he says, “I am one who rectifies the affairs” and claims that he leads the Ummah to righteousness.

In summary, indeed Allah made known their lies and deception, and that this lie increases them in sickness – and Allah’s Refuge is sought, they are from the people of hypocrisy and they are increased in hypocrisy.

Allah said:

Have you (O Muhammad) not seen those (hypocrites) who take for friends a people upon whom is the Wrath of Allah (i.e. Jews)? They are neither of you (Muslims) nor of them (Jews), and they swear to a lie while they know. [Al-Mujaadilah. 14]

They made an oath to the believers that they are indeed believers, whilst they are Munaafiqoon, liars and allies of the Yahud.

[ أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ عَذَابً۬ا شَدِيدًا‌ۖ إِنَّهُمۡ سَآءَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ – Allah has prepared for them a severe torment. Evil indeed is that which they used to do]. [ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَيۡمَـٰنَہُمۡ جُنَّةً۬  – They have made their oaths a screen] – Meaning, for their lies.

Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, so they shall have a humiliating torment. Their children and their wealth will avail them nothing against Allah. They will be (the) dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (for their account), then they will swear to Him as they swear to you (O Muslims). And they think that they have something (to stand upon). Verily, they are liars! Shaitan (Satan) has overtaken them. So he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Shaitan (Satan). Verily, it is the party of Shaitan (Satan) that will be the losers! Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), they will be among the lowest (most humiliated). Allah has decreed: “Verily! It is I and My Messengers who shall be the victorious.” Verily, Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty. [al-Mujaadilah. 15-21]

Allah made known the state of affairs of these people, exposed them, made it known that they are liars and described their actions to be evil. And due to their state of loss, they took these oaths and swearing by Allaah as a screen.. ..Allah said:

When the hypocrites come to you (O Muhammad), they say: “We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah.” Allah knows that you are indeed His Messenger and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are liars indeed. They have made their oaths a screen (for their hypocrisy). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah. Verily, evil is what they used to do. That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed, so they understand not. And when you look at them, their bodies please you; and when they speak, you listen to their words. They are as blocks of wood propped up. They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies, so beware of them. May Allah curse them! How are they denying (or deviating from) the Right Path. And when it is said to them: “Come, so that the Messenger of Allah may ask forgiveness from Allah for you”, they turn aside their heads, and you would see them turning away their faces in pride. It is equal to them whether you (Muhammad) ask forgiveness or ask not forgiveness for them. Verily, Allah guides not the people who are the Fasiqin (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). [Al-Munaafiqoon. 1-6]

Allah testified that they are liars; even if they testified to the Messengership of Muhammad and that Allah alone has the right to be worshipped, they are still liars and do not believe in that. Allah exposed them, because He knows their reality- the disbelief and hypocrisy they hide in their hearts. Allah made it known that they disbelieved and believed thereafter, then they disbelieved finally; and Allah made it known that they do not understand and that even if Allah’s Messenger – the most virtuous amongst the creation – sought forgiveness for them, they will not be forgiven and Allah will not guide them to Iman and the truth due to their [willful] wickedness and evil. And there maybe hypocrites in the Ummah who have these characteristics and thus receive this recompense from Allah. Unfortunately, some people think that hypocrisy has ended, whilst in reality it is something that will continue. Hudhaifah said, “The hypocrites at present are more evil than the hypocrites during the era of Allah’s Messenger”, so he was asked about this, then he said, “Indeed, the hypocrites used to hide their hypocrisy and these people at present make it manifest”. Whenever time elapses, they become many amongst the groups of ahlul bidah, and burden Islam and the Muslims with their evil, plots and hypocrisy; and all of that is done under the guise of Islam and in the name of Islam. Many of ahlul bidah or many innovations – in the past and thereafter – related to belief and affairs of shirk are from their plots and cunning ways. So, let the Muslims be careful of these hypocrites and infiltrators within the innovated groups.

Among the liars – whose affair has been unveiled by Islam in the Qur’an and the Sunnah – are the soothsayers, fortune tellers and magicians. They are from the most evil liars. Allah said:

Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. As for the poets, the erring follow them; see you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? And that they say what they do not do. Except those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, and remember Allah much, and reply back (in poetry) to the unjust poetry (which the pagan poets utter against the Muslims). And those who do wrong will come to know by what overturning they will be overturned. [Ash-Shu’araa. 221-227]

Allah made it known that the devils descend on these types of liars, even the poets amongst them; except those who believe, perform righteous deeds and reply back (in poetry) to the unjust poetry (which the pagan poets utter against the Muslims).

The Messenger said, “Whoever goes to a fortune teller or soothsayer and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what has been revealed to Muhammad”. [Sahih al-Jami. Number 5015]

It has been reported in an authentic narrations that the devils eavesdrop in the [first] heavens and then inform the magician or the soothsayer, then they add a hundred lies to it; so the ignorant wrong doer believes them whilst being aware of the recompense for the one who believes them. If this is the ruling against the one who believes them, then how about the one who is immersed in the sludge of soothsaying, magic and fortune telling? Therefore, the Muslims should also be cautious of these evil category of people and from their most distinct characteristics is lying. Allah and Messenger testified that indeed they are liars and made known their attachment to the devils. [Footnote b]

Among the different types of liars are the Dajaajilah (those whose lies are accompanied with deception, beatification of the lies and tricks to convince the people), whom the Prophet spoke about, and reality testifies to the truthfulness of that which this noble Messenger stated, because he never speaks out of his own desire. He said: “The hour will not be established until two big groups fight each other whereupon there will be a great number of casualties on both sides and they will be following one and the same religious doctrine, and until about thirty Dajjaals and liars appear, and each one of them will claim that he is Allah’s Messenger, and until sound religious knowledge is taken away [i.e. due to death of rightly guided scholars], earthquakes will increase in number and time will pass quickly”. [Sahih Al-Bukhari]  The testimony in this hadith is the statement of the Messenger, “Until about thirty Dajjaals and liars appear, and each one of them will claim that he is Allah’s Messenger”. The Messenger said, “During the close approach of the hour there will be liars, so beware of them”.

Unfortunately, many people do not take this Prophetic advice in order to be cautious of the liars. There is a long hadith narrated by Thawbaan from Allah’s Messenger, who said, “What I fear for you the most is the leaders of misguidance” until he said, “Indeed, there will be thirty liars in my Ummah and each of them will claim that he is a Prophet, but I am the seal of the Prophets and there no Prophet after me”.

The greatest trial will be that of the greatest Dajjaaj whom all the Prophets warned against, and the one who warned against him the most was our Prophet. The narrations regarding this are Mutawaatir and its affair is well-known amongst the Muslims, but despite this, Allah’s Messenger stated that there is one more dangerous for the Ummah than Dajjaaj. Sam’aan said, “Allah’s Messenger mentioned Dajjal one morning as something despised, but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees. When we came to Allah’s Messenger in the evening, he saw that (fear) in us, and said, ‘What is the matter with you?’ We said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! You mentioned Dajjaal this morning, and you spoke of him as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees’. He said, ‘There are things that I fear more for you than the Dajjaal. If he appears while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf, and if he appears when I am not among you, then each man must fend for himself, and Allah will take care of every Muslim on my behalf’”. [Sahih Muslim 2933]

Among these Dajjaals – liars – whom Allah’s Messenger warned against was Musaylimah, the Liar at Yamaamah and Al-Aswad Al-Unsee who claimed prophethood, and as a result many Arabs exited Islam. Allah destroyed them and others were destroyed, and their trial was ended by way of the swords of the companions of Allah’s Messenger. Among the liars who claimed prophethood was Mukhtar Bin Abee Ubayd Ath-Thaqafee, the liar about whom the Messenger stated, “A liar will appear from Thaqeef a blood shedder”. [Sahih Muslim 2545] The liar was Al-Mukhtaar and the blood shedder was al-Hajjaaj. And from those who claimed prophethood was Al-Haarith the liar, and Ghulaam Ahmad Al-Qadiyaanee Al-Hindee who had followers dispersed in the world and they claim that Prophethood is still ongoing. Every liar has other wicked liars connected to him – those similar to their Shaikh. And from these liars in general was the Yahudi, the wicked Abdullah Ibn Saba, who falsely claimed to be Muslim and incited many of the rabble against the Rightly Guided Khaleefah Uthmaan Bin Affaan until he was martyred in that trial. He is the founder of the doctrine of the Rafida Shiites and its filthy principles, and exaggeration the status of the Prophet’s family until they deified them. Many of them declare Ali an object of worship and many of them say that Ali is the one whom the Prophet gave the authority of rulership after him, and that Ali will return to do such and such, meaning, he will kill AbuBakr, Umar and five-hundred Khulafaa of Banee Umayyyah and Banee Abbaas. This wicked one [i.e. Ibn Saba] initiated the act of revilement against the companions of the Prophet and other matters related to the trial he initiated which the heretics promote and are firmly established upon, as well as the figureheads of the Rafida- the liars. Thus, they fill the world with lies and slanders. Their religion is established on lies and misguidance.

And among those Dajjaals – liars – are the figureheads of bidah and misguidance, such as Jahm Bin Safwaan, the figureheads of the Khawaarij, the Mutazilah, the Huloolee Soofees and grave worshippers, such as Nidhaam Al-Mutazilee, Hallaaj the heretic, Ibn Arabi the heretic, Ibn Sab’een, At-Tilimsaanee and other than them amongst the heretics – liars who hid within Islam, infiltrators within the ranks of the people of Tasawwuf, because the people of Tasawwuf  were a fertile ground for these types of people amongst the heretics, just as the Raafida are a spacious room for the heretics. [Footnote c]

Among the liars in this era are the figureheads of the political groups, such as the secularists and Baathists (Arab Nationalists), and many of the people who carry alluring slogans in the name of Islam, such as Islamic socialism, Islamic democracy, the call to unity of religions and many other misguided claims made in the name of Islam. [Footnote d]

This takes place amongst groups who claim that they are seeking to raise Islam very high and that they are established to return the Islamic Ummah to its past glory; however they increase the people in misguidance and darkness, and Allah’s Refuge is sought. This poses a more severe danger to the people and the youth, therefore it is obligated on the Muslims and the students of knowledge to be extremely cautious of all these types of people, warn the Muslims against their plots and plans, and unveil their secrets. And the Muslims should adhere firmly to the Book of their Lord and the Sunnah of their Prophet; follow the pious predecessors in their creed, methodology, loyalty and disassociation, and to deal with this dangerous category of people about whom the Messenger feared for his Ummah – warn them against these groups and make it known that he feared for them regarding these people more than he feared for them regarding Dajjaal, so that they deal with them in the manner that the pious predecessors dealt with them-  by being cautious, warning against them, unveiling their hidden affairs (i.e. misguidance) and making known the defects within them in order to protect the religion and as a means of sincere advice to the Muslims.

With regards to the conflict between the adherents to truth and the adherents to falsehood in every era and place, the truth must reach its goal which Allah has promised -that the religion He has ordained will supersede, the adherents to truth will be given the upper hand over the adherents to falsehood and it is a must that falsehood and its adherents will be defeated and end in failure. Therefore, it is obligated to the adherents to truth – pure Ahlus Sunnah – to be upon steadfastness and resilience, embark upon hard work with everything by way of which they are able to aid the religion ordained by Allah in creed, commands, prohibitions, rulings and methodology; and that they give it the upper hand against falsehood in all its forms and images, whether it is disbelief or hypocrisy coated with Islam, a manifest bidah or a bidah coated with Islam. Allah said:

It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), to make it superior over all religions even though the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) hate (it)]. [at-Tawbah. 33]

Ahlul Ahwaa share this hatred with them, therefore, there’s nothing else except that the adherents to truth employ the legislated means to actualise this promise and matter that is incumbent upon the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah. Wherever the adherents to the Salafi methodology and its students are or wherever they go, it is obligated to them to step up and aid one another to raise the word of truth, Tawheed and Sunnah, and to subdue innovation in religious matters, misguidance and doubts; establish Allah’s proofs against all the various misguided people, make known the reality of the liars and the fakers. They have to know that the opponents against the truth have reached the highest level of plotting and planning, and from this is their preoccupation with the task of silencing many amongst Ahlus Sunnah and the adherents to truth, and restraining them from confronting the falsehood that is covered in the garb of truth. This category of people amongst the adherents to falsehood are more intense in employing lies, duplicity and pretending to possess that which they do not possess; so they are just as the Messenger stated, “The one who pretends that he has been given what he has not been given, is just like the (false) one who wears two garments of falsehood”.

We find them as ones who praise the people of falsehood the most and making their affair to appear pleasing, whilst they are the most severe in speaking ill against the adherents to the truth and its callers. Indeed, they have set up corrupt principles to aid falsehood and the adherents to misguided methodologies; waging war against the adherents to truth by devising plots and repugnant affairs, manifesting their hatred and enmity against the adherents to truth and hastening-  without boredom and tiredness – to instruct the youth to oppose the people of truth, striving hard to aid falsehood and topple the adherents to truth. We ask Allah  to raise His Word and guide these people or relieve the Ummah of their Indeed, our Lord is One who hears invocation. And may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Sayyid Muhammad, his family and companions until the day of judgement.

Footnote a: “Verily, the worst act of usury is to attack the reputation of a Muslim”. Meaning, the greater in evil and the more severely prohibited is to unleash the tongue against the honour of a Muslim by belittling him, behaving arrogantly towards him and speaking ill against him by way of slander or verbal abuse. This becomes more severe in prohibition because honour is more noble than one’s self and wealth.

“Without a just cause”. Meaning, this shows that there are cases where one is allowed to speak about someone, saying, such and such is an oppressor or transgressor, or making a mention of an innovator and an open sinner with the intention to issue warning. At-Teebee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Honour enters into the types of wealth from the angle of emphasis. Usury is categorised into the two types: customary and it is what is taken as an addition from debtors, and the one that is not customary, such as a person attacking the honour of someone with his tongue. [An Excerpt from ‘Awnul Mabood Sharh Sunan Abee Daawud’ 13/152]

This (i.e. violating the honour of a Muslim) has been referred to as usury because the transgressor safeguards his honour and then goes beyond it, thus it is as if he has added an increase that encroaches the boundaries in connection with the honour of a Muslim which is more valuable than his wealth. Al-Qadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “Attacking a Muslim’s honour is to deal with him more than what he deserves of that which is to be said about him, or more than what is allowed to say about him. This is why it is likened to usury and considered one of its types”. [An Excerpt from ‘Mirqaatul Mafaateeh Sharh Mishkaat Al-Masaabeeh’ 8/3157]
