Few Affairs One Should Ponder On When Struggling to Give Precedence to Truth Over Falsehood – [By Al-Allaamah Abdur Rahmaan Bin Yahyah Al-Mu’allimee (rahimahullaah)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

It is obligatory (or befitting) that a person ponders on these affairs:

Ponder on the fact that truth is noble and falsehood is lowly. Ponder on the Greatness of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]- the fact that Allaah is the Lord of the entire universe, Allaah loves truth and hates falsehood. And that the one who follows truth is deserving of the Pleasure of the Lord of the universe – Allaah [Glorified be He] will be his protector in the worldly life and the Afterlife by choosing for him everything that is good, better, more beneficial, more perfect, more noble and loftier until Allaah removes his soul whilst being pleased with him. Then Allaah raises him, brings him close and makes him dwell in paradise with honour-  in permanent bliss and eternal nobility which no imagination can fully conceive its greatness. He should ponder on the fact that the one who clings to falsehood is deserving of the displeasure, anger and punishment of the Lord of the universe, and if he receives anything of worldly bliss, then indeed that is only a means of humiliating him in order that he is increased in being distanced from Allaah, so that the painful torment of the afterlife is multiplied for him, which no imagination can fully conceive its severity.

He should ponder on the bliss of the worldly life [i.e. temporary] as compared to the pleasure of the Lord of the universe and the bliss in the afterlife [i.e. eternal], compare the misery of the worldly life to displeasure of the Lord of the universe and the punishment in the afterlife [i.e. the severest punishment in this life is nowhere equal to punishment in the afterlife]. He should ponder on the statement of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]:

And they say: “Why is not this Qur’an sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Ta’if)?” Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass.

And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend, and for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, and adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun. [Surah Az-Zuhkruf. Aayaat 31-35

Who Are The Two Types of People That Advise One In Authority And How Should One Behave When Others Are Given Precedence Over Him?

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Allaah never sends a Prophet or gives the Caliphate to a Caliph, except that he (the prophet or the Caliph) has two groups of advisors: A group advising him to do good and exhorts him to do it, and the other group advising him to do evil and exhorts him to do it. But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah”. [Ref 1]

Few Reminders From The Above Hadeeth

a: With regards to a prophet, there maybe those who seek to divert him from what is good, but it can never be the case that he will listen to them, because the Prophets are protected by Allaah and at the end of the hadeeth it is stated, “But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah”. Therefore, the presence of one who seeks to direct a prophet to evil does not necessitate that the prophet will accept what he says.

It is also said that the intent behind the two advisers (mentioned in this hadeeth with regards to their relationship) to a prophet are the angles and shaytaan, (as the Prophet said in a hadeeth), “There is no one among you but a companion from among the jinn has been assigned to him.” They said, “Even you, O Messenger of Allaah?’ He said, “Even me, but Allaah helped me with him and he became Muslim (or: and I am safe from him), so he only enjoins me to do that which is good.” [Ref 2]

In another narration, it is stated that the person is assigned a companion among the jinn and a companion among the angels. [Ref 3]

b: “But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah” – Meaning Allaah is the one who protects whoever He wishes. So, in reality you cannot find anyone who can protect himself except if Allaah protects him.

c: It is incumbent upon a ruler to have a person who unveils to him the circumstances of the people in private, and this person should be trustworthy, reliable, smart and sensible, because calamity befalls a reliable ruler due to accepting speech of one who is not trustworthy.

Also, the one who is given responsible over the affairs of the people may always accept the speech of good advisers and not that of evil advisers. This is what is suitable to attribute to a Prophet and it is established by the word [ عصمة – protection] at the end of the hadeeth.

It may be that a ruler accepts the speech of evil advisers, especially someone who is a disbeliever. So, he may accept the speech of these people at times (evil people) and the speech of those at other times (i.e. good people).  [Ref 4]

How to Behave When The Rulers Give Precedence to Others

How Should We Behave When Others Are Given Precedence Over Us?! [A Restraint For The Nafs]

Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Indeed, you will see Atharatan after me and affairs you’ll disapprove; they [i.e. the people] said, ‘What do you command us O Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasaallam]?’ He said, ‘Fulfil their rights [i.e. the rulers] and ask Allaah for your rights’”.

Atharatan: meaning- [some people will give precedence to themselves (i.e. spend wealth on themselves and engage in worldly enjoyment, but will not give others their rightful share)].

Al-Allaamah Zaid Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali [rahumahullaah] said: This authentic hadeeth is related to the affair of the rulers- during the end of time – when they will give precedence to themselves through enjoyment of the worldly things and those under their authority will face harm, something of oppression and tyranny; so the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] guided and directed the people to fulfil the rights of the rulers; obey and listen to them in that which is good- whether it is during a time in which one is enthusiastic [to listen and obey them in what is good] or feeling laxadaisical- perform Jihaad behind their banner against the enemies of the religion, establish the prayer and behave in a manner obligated by the Islamic legislation. They should not rebel against the ruler just because he is a sinner or an oppressor, nor refrain from giving him the rights obligated on them to give him; rather they should fulfil his rights just as the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded them, saying, “Fulfil their rights”.

Therefore, the ruler has rights that should be fulfilled by his subjects and the subjects also have rights to be fulfilled by the ruler. It is obligated on the ruler to fulfil their rights and it is obligated on them to fulfil his rights. However, if he [i.e. the ruler] falls short in something related to their rights, it is not permissible for them to [deliberately] fall short in fulfilling his rights. And due to the great importance of rulership and the rulers, indeed the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded them to fulfil the obligation of As-sam’i Wat-taa’ah [i.e. to listen and obey the ruler in good], refrain from disobedience[when commanded to do something good], supplicate to Allaah to make their affairs easy and change their state of affairs to that which is good, aid them to fulfil their needs and those affairs they cannot do without.

This hadeeth contains a miracle of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] and that is the fact that he clearly stated that during the end of time, the rulers will give precedence to themselves with something of wealth and worldly enjoyment, and others will be deprived of it. Also, there will be affairs which the people of sound judgement will reject. [So], when this era comes, it is obligated on them – those under the rulership of a Muslim ruler – to listen and obey in that which is good, fulfil the rights that have been obligated on them to fulfil and seek their rights from Allaah – meaning: they supplicate to Allaah to aid them in fulfilling their needs and facilitate them with ease in their affairs. And Allaah knows best. [Ref 5]

Some Reasons Behind Rejecting Truth

Al-Allaamah Abdur Rahmaan Al-Mu’allimee [rahimahullaah] said:

Firstly: A person sees that by acknowledging the truth, it would necessitate that he has acknowledged that he was upon falsehood, because a person is nurtured upon a religion, creed, school of thought or views he acquired from his nurturer and teacher, considers it to be the truth and followed it for a long time. Then when it becomes clear to him that [the religion, creed, view, or school of thought] is false, it becomes difficult for him to acknowledge it, just like when his forefathers, ancestors or the one he follows are upon a [particular] way and then its falsity is clarified for him, because he sees that their deficiencies necessitate his own deficiencies, and an acknowledgement of their misguidance or errors necessitates his own deficiencies.

Secondly: It may be that clinging to falsehood gave him prestige, fame and a livelihood; so it becomes difficult for him to acknowledge that [what he is upon is] falsehood and thus all those benefits [i.e. the fame, prestige, livelihood etc] would disappear.

Thirdly: Pride: It may be that a person is upon ignorance or falsehood, then another person comes along and clarifies the proofs for him; so he sees that by acknowledging such proofs, it would necessitate that he is lacking [in understanding] and that it was that person who guided him. And due to this we find that it is not difficult for some of those attributed to knowledge to acknowledge their mistakes when it becomes manifests to them in their researches and studies, but it becomes difficult for them [to acknowledge] if it was others who clarified such mistakes for them.

Fourthly: Envy: [This may occur] when another person clarifies the truth for him, so he sees that by acknowledging such truth it would necessitate an acknowledgement of the clarifier’s virtue, knowledge and correctness due to that clarification, and thus that becomes [something] great in the eyes of the people and many people [begin] to follow him [i.e. the person who clarified the truth]. So you will find some of those attributed to knowledge being eager to prove the mistakes of other scholars even if that is done by way of falsehood, due to envy and seeking to diminish their status amongst the people.

A Man’s Knowledge Regarding The Feelings of His Wife In different Situations, Whilst Sincere Love And Respect Is Maintained Between Them

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Aa’isha [may Allaah be pleased with her] narrated that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said to her, “I know when you are pleased with me or angry with me”. I said, “When do you know that?” He said, “When you are pleased with me, you say, ‘No, by the Lord of Muhammad,’ but when you are angry with me, then you say, ‘No, by the Lord of Abraaheem.’ ” Thereupon I said, “Yes, (certainly, you are right); but by Allaah, O Allaah’s Messenger, I do not leave anything else besides your name”.

Benefits From This Hadeeth

  • A man’s thorough observation regarding the state of a woman due to her action, speech, inclination or lack of inclination towards him based on indications, because the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] firmly determined Aa’Isha’s  [may Allaah be pleased with her] happiness or anger merely when she mentioned or refrain from mentioning his name; therefore, he judged the two situations based on the mention or the absence of a mention of his name as an indication of happiness or anger. It can also be definitely the case that there is something more explicit regarding this affair, but he did not say it.
  • And regarding the statement of Aa’Isha, “Yes (certainly, you are right); but by Allaah, O Allaah’s Messenger, I do not leave anything else besides your name”. At-Teebee said, “This is a very subtle way of making an exception, because she related that when she is in a state of anger – a state in which a sane person loses his senses by choice, her affirmed love for the Messenger does not change.
  • Ibnul Muneer said, “What Aa’isha intended is that she left out the wording of the Prophet’s name but her heart’s pure love and affection towards the noble person of the Prophet does not leave her.
  • And with regards to the choice Aa’Isha made to use Prophet Ibraaheem’s [peace be upon him] name instead of the other Prophet’s, this is proof regarding her intelligence, because the Prophet is the one with the best claim to Ibraaheem just as Allaah stated in the Qur’an. Therefore, when she had no other way of leaving a noble name, she replaced it with the name of someone who is from the one whose name she left out, so that her heart does not exit the boundaries of that attachment.

Objectivity! [A Word Utilised In The Name of Progress By Proponents of Kufr Akbar and Deceivers Seeking to Justify Haraam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

What is the meaning of the word ‘Objectivity’ in the English language?

It means “the fact of being based on facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings”.

This above definition is utilised for both truth and falsehood by the militant secularists and some of the misguided modernists; therefore the Muslim educator should be armed with basic principles to guide his pupils and students. Indeed, the objectivity promoted by the militant secularists is nothing else but the one inherited from Iblees – to question and rebel against the command of his Lord.

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

“It has been stated that the reason behind Iblees being distanced [from the mercy of Allaah] is because of false interpretation, for indeed he made an analogy with the text and gave precedence to the analogy over the text. He made a false interpretation about himself and that  [his so called] rational analogy takes precedence over the command to prostrate. [Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [أنا خير منه – I am better than him [i.e. Aadam], and that a virtuous one cannot humble himself to one who has been given virtue over him; therefore he quickly said [as Allaah informed us that he said]: [خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين – You created me from fire, and him you created from clay]. Therefore, he thought that this rational analogy that resembles truth- even though it is false – will benefit him in his false interpretation. So, that which happened him happened and he became the leader of everyone- until the day of judgement- who makes a false interpretation of the texts of the revelation. How many a person in this world are followers of this cursed leader! And if you contemplate on the majority of those doubts that are made to resemble the truth by the false interpreters of the texts and seeking to nullify them, you will find that it is similar to the doubts of Iblees which he seeks to portray as truth. So, a person says: If the intellect and the text oppose each other, then give precedence to the intellect. This is where this principle is derived from and he [i.e. the proponent of this affair] use it as a fundamental principle through which he rejects those texts of the revelation which he claims are in opposition to the intellect, just as his leader Iblees claimed that a [so called] rational proof opposed the command to make sujood. This doubt came to him due to pride which prevented him from submitting to the clear texts of the revelation. Likewise, you find every false disputer against the texts of the revelation does so due to pride. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي آيَاتِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَانٍ أَتَاهُمْ ۙ إِن فِي صُدُورِهِمْ إِلَّا كِبْرٌ مَّا هُم بِبَالِغِيهِ ۚ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ – Verily, those who dispute about the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their breasts except pride [to accept you (Muhammad ) as a Messenger of Allah and to obey you]. They will never have it (i.e. Prophethood which Allah has bestowed upon you). So seek refuge in Allah (O Muhammad from the arrogants). Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer]. [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 56] [Ref 1]

The militant secularist utter this word ‘Objectivity’ whose apparent meaning can be both praiseworthy and unpraiseworthy, and then utilise it to promote their Kufr Akbar and Shirk Akbar – to question Allaah; but at the same time making it seem as if what they pursue under the guise of this word is praiseworthy, such as advancement, progress etc. This is another inheritance of theirs from the people of misguidance of old. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth). [2:42]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said: Allaah forbade us from mixing truth with falsehood, and thus leading to concealment of the truth. Mixing truth with false is by mixing the two until one of them is confused for the other. This is forgery and deceit by way of which what is made apparent is the opposite of what it is in reality. Likewise, when truth is confounded with falsehood, the culprit manifests falsehood in the image of truth and speaks with a statement that carries two meanings- a correct meaning and false meaning, so the listener is under the illusion that the speaker intends the correct meaning, whilst he intends the corrupt meaning. [Ref 2]

And do not be duped when they claim to be the facilitators of opportunity for debate and discussion, rather ask yourself, “Who finally decides which view or idea is to be given precedence?” Indeed, the final judges in the affair are none but the self-appointed possessors of superior intelligence, even though they have no guidance from Allaah. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “And even though there is something in the paths of analogical reasoning and reflection that will lead to knowledge, however sometimes it cannot give detail explanation in a dispute between the people of the earth due to the minute details and ambiguities [in that dispute], and at other times due to the fact the people differ when prioritising necessities. Therefore, due to this Allaah [The Most High] commanded [us] to return to the revelation in times of dispute. Allaah [The Most High] said:

[ كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ وَأَنزَلَ مَعَهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لِيَحۡكُمَ بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فِيمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ‌ۚ -Mankind were one community (i.e. upon Tawheed and Allaah’s Sharee’ah) and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed]. [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 213]

Therefore, Allaah [The Most High] designated the revealed Books [i.e. the Qur’aan being the final of them] as the judge between the people in matters wherein they differ”. [Ref 3]

Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [may Allaah preserve him] said,

“If you say that the intellect is to be given precedence over the revelation, then which intellect should we follow? Are the intellects of the people combined in the intellect of one man or do they differ? There are intellects of the philosophers, the atheists, the heretics, the people of evil desires and those who confound truth with falsehood; and due to this one of the pious predecessors said, ‘Had the desires been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth’; therefore, we say, ‘Had the intellects been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth’”. [Ref 4]

Imaam Ash’Shaatibee [rahimahullaah] said,

“Know that Allaah has established this sharee’ah as a proof against the creation [i.e. mankind and jinn] – the old and young alike; the obedient and the disobedient; the righteous and the wicked. He did not specify the proof against anyone in exclusion of another one. Also all the other revealed laws were established as proof against all the other nations to whom they were revealed. The Sharee’ah is the judge- restrictedly and unrestrictedly; the [source of judgement] and the judge on all those who have reached the age of responsibility. It is the path attached to [what Allaah has ordained] and the Greatest Guide. And have you not seen the statement of Allaah [The Most High]?! [وَكَذَٲلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ رُوحً۬ا مِّنۡ أَمۡرِنَا‌ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدۡرِى مَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ وَلَا ٱلۡإِيمَـٰنُ وَلَـٰكِن جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ نُورً۬ا نَّہۡدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا‌ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَہۡدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطٍ۬ مُّسۡتَقِيمٍ۬ – And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad) Ruhan (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur’an) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism)].’’ [Soorah Ash-Shooraa. Ayah: 52]

He [alayhis salaatu wassalaam] was the first to be guided to the Book and Eemaan, and then those who followed him. The Book is the Guide and also the Sunnah which was sent down upon him explains that guidance [i.e. the Sunnah and the Qur’aan explain each other]. All the creation [i.e. mankind and Jinn] are guided by it. Therefore, when this is the case, the Sharee’ah is worthy of being a decisive proof against them [i.e. against mankind and Jinn] and a beacon by way of which they are guided to the truth. Their nobility is established in accordance with how far they embrace its rulings- through acting upon them in speech, belief and deeds– and not merely due to the level of their intellects or their nobility amongst their people. That is because Allaah [The Most High] has determined nobility through Taqwa and no other than it. Allaah [The Most High] said: [إِنَّ أَڪۡرَمَكُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتۡقَٮٰكُمۡ‌ۚ- Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa] [49:13]

The one who is the firmest [in his  or her] adherence to the Sharee’ah is more worthy of honour and nobility, but it is not possible for the one below this [i.e. the one whose adherence to the Sharee’ah is below that of the one who is firmest in adhering to it] to reach the highest level of honour based on his adherence to the Sharee’ah. Therefore, honour is [measured] in accordance with one’s [level of adherence] to the Sharee’ah”. [Ref 5]

Therefore, it is not befitting Muslim educators to blindly follow the militant secularists and other enemies of the Messengers – parroting everything they hear in the name of education and vocabulary building, whilst discussing subject matters in which haqq and baatil must be distinguished.

The basis of a person’s Islaam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi- wasallam] is the Messenger of Allaah, to believe in Allaah, declare that Allaah is One without partner, obey Allaah’s commands, keep away from what Allaah has forbidden and single out Allaah in worship. And safeguarding this path [necessitates] the prohibition of every expression that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allaah] or Kufr, or will lead to one of the two. [Ref 6]  In the Qur’aan, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words [or terms] that are in opposition to the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. [Ref 7]

One of the general fundamental principles [in Islaam] is to know that words [or terms] are two types: Words that are mentioned in the Qur’aan and [authentic] Sunnah, therefore, it is obligated on every believer to affirm them – affirm what Allaah and His Messenger have affirmed, and negate what Allaah and His Messenger have negated. The words [or terms] affirmed by Allaah is truth and the ones Allaah negated are [negated] in truth, for indeed Allaah speaks the truth and guides to the straight path. The words [or terms] of the Sharee’ah are sanctified, and it is from perfection in knowledge that one seeks after the [sound meanings] which the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasalam] intended by them, in order to affirm what he affirmed and negate the meanings he negated; for indeed it is obligated on us to believe and bear witness to everything he has stated and follow him in everything he has commanded.

As for the words [or terms] that are neither found in the Qur’aan and [authentic] Sunnah, nor did the Salaf hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, then it is not incumbent on anyone to agree with the one who negates them or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is affirmed; but if its intended meaning is in opposition to the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is rejected. [Ref 8]

A Brief Admonition to Ignorant Muslims Who Behave Like Anarchists, Violate The Authority of The Courts And  Take Law Into Their Own Hands

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] said: As for stopping evil with the hand, this should be done where one has authority, such as one’s home [within what the laws of the country allows] with those under one’s responsibility, or those authorized by the ruler, such as organizations given permission and authority to enjoin good. They should make changes in accordance with the authority they have been given- in the way prescribed by the Sharee’ah, without exceeding their jurisdiction. The same applies to the governor of a city; he should make changes with his hand, in accordance with the instructions he has been given [by the government]. [Ref 1]

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] said:

The ones who actually judge with apostasy are the legislative judges and those who are able and fit for giving legal verdicts. And as for those who enforce the judgements they are the leaders of the Muslims (wullaat al-amr). As for whatever is other than this, then it is mere confusion.

Meting out the punishments is only appropriate for the leader of the Muslims and it is not for every person to establish the punishment, since confusion, and corruption necessarily follows from this, and also the cutting off of the society, tribulations and provocations occur. Establishing the punishments is appropriate (i.e. befits only) to the Muslim leader.

And from the responsibilities of the Sultaan in Islaam, and from those matters that befit him is the establishment of the punishments after they have been established legislatively, via the Sharee’ah law courts, upon the one who fell into the crime for which the legislator has designated a specific punishment, such as for stealing. So what has been said is that establishing the punishments (i.e. meting them out) is from the rights of the Sultaan, and when the Muslims do not have a Sultaan amongst them, then they should just suffice with commanding the good and forbidding the evil, and calling to Allaah, the Might and Majestic, with wisdom, good admonition and arguing with that which is best. And it is not permissible for individuals (in the society) to establish the hudood, since that, as we have mentioned, will bring about chaos, and also provocations, and tribulations will arise, and this contains greater corruption than it contains rectification. And from amongst the Sharee’ah principles that are submitted to is, ‘Repelling the harmful things takes precedence over bringing about the beneficial things’. [Ref 2]

A Supplication Before Bedtime Reminds One of Gratitude And Places Kindness In The Hearts For The Poor And Needy

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Supplication:

All praise is due to Allah Who fed us, provided us drink, sufficed us and provided us with shelter, for how many people there is none to suffice and none to provide shelter. [Saheeh Muslim Number 2715]

Shaikh Abdur-Razzaq Al-Badr, may Allah preserve him, said:

In this supplication, there is a reminder for the Muslim before he goes to bed regarding the end of the day and the hours that have elapsed, in which Allaah provided him with food, drink and shelter, while there are a number of people who could not find food as a source of nourishment or drink to quench their thirst, or clothing to clothed themselves, or a dwelling place. So whoever Allaah blessed with food and drink, sufficed him, then it is obligated on him to acknowledge the blessings of Allaah and consider it as something that is great indeed. That is because being grateful for the blessings Allaah has given you is a means to retaining and increasing those blessings. Allah (The Most High) said:

وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ

And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe]. [14:7]

Be Pragmatic Muhammad or Aa’isha! [Parroting Terms to Our Children And Pupils In The Name of ‘Building Vocabulary’ Whilst Being Oblivious or Heedless of The Distinction Between Truth and Falsehood Within Those Terms]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly, one should pay attention to this important principle regarding words and terms!

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: The basis of Banee Aadam’s misguidance is as a result of ‘General Terms’ and ‘Ambiguous Meanings’ [i.e. terms & meanings which can either be utilised for truth or falsehood when not explained in detail and distinguished], especially if they come in contact with a confused mind, then how about when [evil] desires and misguided enthusiasm is added to that? Therefore, ask the One Who keeps the hearts steadfast [i.e. Allaah] to keep your heart firm upon His Religion and not allow you to fall into this darkness. [Ref 1]

And safeguarding this path [necessitates] the prohibition of every expression [term or word] that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allaah] or Kufr, or will lead to one of the two. [Ref 2]  In the Qur’aan, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words [or terms] that are in opposition to the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. [Ref 3]

As for the words [or terms] that are neither found in the Qur’am and [authentic] Sunnah, nor did the Salaf hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, then it is not incumbent on anyone to agree with the one who negates them or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is affirmed; but if its intended meaning is in opposition to the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is rejected. [Ref 4]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim said, “It is obligated on you to give detail and make a distinction, because unrestricted and general [statements] without clarification has indeed corrupted this existence [i.e. the world], and misguided the intellects and views [of the people] in every era”. Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan said, “There has to be detail explanation. The one who is not proficient in giving detail should keep quiet, because benefit is not acquired from his speech. And every time error occurs, its cause is due to an absence of detail explanation regarding truth and falsehood. There has to be detail explanation and distinction and not to mix up [affairs]. Indeed, it may be that there is something of truth and falsehood in an opponent’s statement, so all of it is neither deemed to be false nor truth; rather there has to be a distinction between its truth and falsehood. All of it is neither rejected nor accepted; rather a distinction is made regarding the truth and what is correct and the falsehood and error in it. And if you are not proficient in giving detail, then you should not enter into this field”. [Ref 5]

Secondly, what is Pragmatism? It is defined as “the quality of dealing with a problem in a sensible way that suits the conditions that really exist, rather than following fixed theories, ideas or rules”.

Indeed, the above definition can be utilised for truth and falsehood, because if the words ‘sensible’, ‘ideas’ and ‘rules’ are not confined within the commands of Allaah [The Exalted] and His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], then definitely whatever is pursued in their name will cause harm. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:  “And even though there is something in the paths of analogical reasoning and reflection that will lead to knowledge, however sometimes it cannot give detail explanation in a dispute between the people of the earth due to the minute details and ambiguities [in that dispute], and at other times due to the fact the people differ when prioritising necessities. Therefore, due to this Allaah [The Most High] commanded [us] to return to the revelation in times of dispute. Allaah [The Most High] said: [ كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ وَأَنزَلَ مَعَهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لِيَحۡكُمَ بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فِيمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ‌ۚ -Mankind were one community (i.e. upon Tawheed and Allaah’s Sharee’ah) and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed]. [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 213] Therefore, Allaah [The Most High] designated the revealed Books [i.e. the Qur’aan being the final of them] as the judge between the people in matters wherein they differ”. [Ref 6]

Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [may Allaah preserve him] said, “If you say that the intellect is to be given precedence over the revelation, then which intellect should we follow? Are the intellects of the people combined in the intellect of one man or do they differ? There are intellects of the philosophers, the atheists, the heretics, the people of evil desires and those who confound truth with falsehood; and due to this one of the pious predecessors said, ‘Had the desires been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth’; therefore, we say, ‘Had the intellects been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth’”. [Ref 7]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Everyone with a bit of [uncorrupted] intellect knows that indeed the corruption of the world and its ruin occurs due to giving precedence to opinion over the divine revelation and [evil] desires over sound intellect. These two corrupt motives [or basis] are neither entrenched in a heart, except that its destruction becomes inevitable, nor in a nation, except that its affairs are completely corrupted”. [Ref 8]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] also said, “It has been stated that the reason behind Iblees being distanced [from the mercy of Allaah] is because of false interpretation, for indeed he made an analogy with the text and gave precedence to the analogy over the text. He made a false interpretation about himself and that  [his so called] rational analogy takes precedence over the command to prostrate. [Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [أنا خير منه – I am better than him [i.e. Aadam], and that a virtuous one cannot humble himself to one who has been given virtue over him; therefore he quickly said [as Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين – You created me from fire, and him you created from clay]. Aayah 56] [Ref 9]

Thirdly, the infallible Sharee’ah of Allaah is the only perfect judge and the source of all perfect virtue. Imaam Ash’Shaatibee [rahimahullaah] said, “Know that Allaah has established this sharee’ah as a proof against the creation [i.e. mankind and jinn] – the old and young alike; the obedient and the disobedient; the righteous and the wicked.

[Ref 10]

Therefore, it should be absolutely clear to every believer that pragmatism outside the Sharee’ah is unsound.

Fourthly, when there is no explicit text regarding a matter or we are faced with new situations for which there is no explicit text, the upright scholars perform Ijtihaad. Amr bin Al-Aas [radiyallaahu anhu] narrated that he heard Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] saying, ‘’If a Mujtahid gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct, he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, even then he will get a reward.’’ [Bukhari Number 7352]

Few Masaa’il From This Hadeeth

[a] A Mujtahid is not deprived of reward. [b] The judgement of a non-Mujtahid is different from that of a Mujtahid. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said that the one who speaks about the religion without knowledge and out of ignorance [is guilty of] lying and sinning. The one who intentionally speaks to oppose the truth is threatened with entry into the fire of hell, as opposed to the affair of the one who speaks based on permissible Ijtihaad, for indeed he strives, fears Allaah as much as he is able, desires to seek knowledge as much as he was able, speaks for the sake of Allaah, knows the stronger proof and speaks based on that. This person is given two rewards if he is correct; but if he is mistaken, he receives one reward. [c] A Mujtahid can be correct or mistaken. [Ref 11]

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee [hafidha-hullaah] said: ”We do not say that there are people of ijtihaad amongst ahlul bidah because they are followers of desires, and Allaah and His Messenger have testified to this. The misguided innovator stirs up discord and errs, and then says to you, ‘This is ijtihaad’. When Hikmatiyaar and the misguided parties [in Afghanistan] murdered Shaikh Jameel Ur-Rahmaan, they said: ‘This is ijtihaad.’ They [ahlul bidah] do not fall into an affair of misguidance or a calamity except that they say, “This is ijtihaad.”  This is [tantamount] to diluting Islaam, falsehood, misguidance, bidah and confounding truth with falsehood, when the mistakes of the [true and qualified scholars of ijtihaad]- for which they are rewarded- are placed at the same level with innovation, about which the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] declared to be destined for the hell fire. [Ref 12]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth). [2:42]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Allah forbade us from mixing truth with falsehood, thus leading to concealment of the truth. [An Excerpt from Badaa’i At-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibn Al- Qayyim. 1/124]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said: said:

The basis of a person’s Islam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is the Messenger of Allah, to believe in Allah, declare that Allah is One without partner, obey Allah’s commands, keep away from what Allah has forbidden and single out Allah in worship. Safeguarding this path (necessitates) the prohibition of every expression that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allah] or Kufr, or will lead to one of the two. [2]  In the Qur’an, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words that are in opposition to the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. [3]

One of the general fundamental principles (in Islam) is to know that words (or terms) are two types: words that are mentioned in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, therefore, it is obligated to every believer to affirm them – affirm what Allah and His Messenger have affirmed, and negate what Allah and His Messenger have negated. The words affirmed by Allah is truth and the ones Allah negated are (negated) in truth, for indeed Allah speaks the truth and guides to the straight path. As for the words that are neither found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, nor did the pious predecessors hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, it is not incumbent upon anyone to agree with the one who negates or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the (revelation, commands, prohibitions etc) conveyed by the Messenger, they are affirmed; but if their intended meaning is in opposition, they are rejected. [4]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said:

It is obligated to you to give detail and make a distinction, because unrestricted and general (statements) without clarification has indeed corrupted this existence [i.e. the world], and misguided the intellects and views [of the people] in every era”.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzaan said:

Indeed, it may be that there is something of truth and falsehood in an opponent’s statement, so all of it is neither deemed to be false nor truth; rather there has to be a distinction between its truth and falsehood. All of it is neither rejected nor accepted; rather a distinction is made regarding the truth and what is correct and the falsehood and error in it. And if you are not proficient in giving detail, then you should not enter into this field”. [5]

In an article written by Jason Burke [Sat 18 July 2020] about the unrest in a West African Muslim Country [Mali], the following affairs were mentioned in his article: Climate Change, Poor Rulership, Extremism/Jihadists, Demonstrations/Popular Movements, Sex Education, Homosexuality, khumeini, Traditional, Syncretic Sufi Tradition of Islam], but there was no distinction between truth and falsehood in these matters. Therefore, we present to you the knowledge-based articles and clear upright guidance regarding these matters. May Allah bless you Aameen.

[8] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

To Proceed: Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

When the polytheists belied the Qur’aan and strove their utmost to nullify it through every means – alongside the fact that they were challenged to bring something similar to it, or ten chapters or even one chapter, this showed the people of sound understanding that they were unable to oppose it despite their strenuous efforts and the powerful means they employed; however, had they followed instead of opposing and seeking to nullify it, their inability to oppose it – which established the proofs [against them] – would not have been manifested.

When the magicians opposed Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], Allaah nullified that which they presented and this was from that which Allaah manifested the truth of that which Moosaa [alayhis salaam] brought. And this is one of the distinctions between the signs of the Prophets and their proofs that are referred to as ‘True Miracles’, as opposed to that which is made to resemble them from the paranormal deeds of the magicians and the actions of the devils. That is because there are a number of distinctions between these two affairs, as Allaah stated:

هَلۡ أُنَبِّئُكُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَن تَنَزَّلُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ

تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ۬

Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. [Surah As-Shu’araa. Aayaat 221-222]

And from these distinguishing signs is that which Allaah has clarified in the verses that present a challenge to the opposers and the signs given to the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], which can neither be opposed by anything let alone being greater than them; nor is it possible for anyone to nullify them, as opposed to the paranormal deeds of the magicians and the devils, for indeed it is possible to confront them with what is similar and stronger, and it is possible to nullify them.

Likewise, when all the enemies of the Prophets amongst the criminals – the devils amongst humankind and Jinn, who inspire one another with adorned speech by way of deception – manifest their proofs to prove the validity of their religions which are in opposition to the religion of the Messengers;  deceive through what they fabricate of narrations and that which is presented as truth to be believed, then this becomes a means of manifesting the sound beliefs which Allaah has promised to give the upper hand over all other religions through clarification, clear proofs and evidences, and then through the sword, the hand and weaponry. [Must Read: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/salafi-shaikh-fawzaan-on-jihaad-in-our-times-and-the-guidelines-of-jihaad-according-to-islam/]. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Indeed We have sent Our Messengers with clear proofs, and revealed with them the Scripture and the Balance (justice) that mankind may keep up justice. And We brought forth iron wherein is mighty power (in matters of war), as well as many benefits for mankind, that Allah may test who it is that will help Him (His religion), and His Messengers in the unseen. Verily, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty. [Surah Al-Hadeed. Aayah 25]

Therefore, by way of that which Allaah establishes of clear signs and evidences, the real truth is given superiority over falsehood – that which is useful is given superiority over frivolity, guidance is given superiority over misguidance, truthfulness is given superiority over that which is impossible to established its truthfulness, the path to sound conduct and behaviour is given superiority over deviation, sound uprightness is given superiority over corruption, and correctness is given superiority over error. This is a trial for men through which the wicked are distinguished from the good people. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [مَّا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَنتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ حَتَّىٰ يَمِيزَ ٱلۡخَبِيثَ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبِ – Allah will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 179]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Alif-Laam-Meem. Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: “We believe,” and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test). Or those who do evil deeds think that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge! [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayaat 1-4]

Fitna [Trial] is a test, just as Allaah stated that Moosaa [alayhis salaam] said: [إِنۡ هِىَ إِلَّا فِتۡنَتُكَ تُضِلُّ بِہَا مَن تَشَآءُ وَتَہۡدِى مَن تَشَآءُ – It is only Your Trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and keep guided whom You will]. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayah 155] – Meaning, your trial and test by way of which those who oppose the Messengers are misguided and those who follow them are guided. Trial for a human being is like when gold is exposed to the bellows because it separates its good parts from its impurities; so truth is like pure gold and whenever it is put to trial [i.e. placed in the bellows], its quality increases. As for falsehood, it is like something adulterated and shrouded in mist, and whenever put to the test, its corruption manifests. So, whenever an observer examines the religion of truth [i.e. Islam] and whenever the arguer argues on its behalf, its proofs manifests, certainty is strengthened, the Eemaan of the believers is increased and its light shines in hearts of humankind and Jinn. As for when an arguer argues on behalf of false religion and seeks to establish its crooked structure, Allaah establishes those who fling the truth against the falsehood, so it destroys it; and it becomes manifest that the proponent of that false religion is an idiot, a liar, lost, dim-witted and unstable; corruption and repugnance is manifested from such a religion – the corrupt creed of incarnation, the corrupt creed that the creation are in union with the Creator, contradiction, heresy, disbelief, misguidance, ignorance, absurdity, as well as that which becomes manifest to all men in general that the proponents of false religions are the most misguided, and to the extent that corruption is manifested from such a religion of that which was unknown to the majority of men.

And through this affair, the one who was heedless and was in a state of slumber – the one who could neither differentiate between deviation and upright guidance, is awoken; and one is given guidance by way of sound knowledge and Eemaan, even though prior to that his heart was dead [with misguidance], due to being unaware of those who are well known [for piety, upright guidance etc], those whom Allaah bestow his grace, such as the Prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs and the righteous [may Allaah’s peace and blessings be upon them]; nor did he reject – prior to that – the evil of those who earned Allaah’s Anger and those who went astray; for indeed  Allaah rebuked the Nasaaraa and the Yahood because they denied the truth that opposes evil desires, turned away from the truth and did not accept it due to pride, harboured envy against the people of truth and transgressed against them, followed the path of deviation, miserliness, cowardice and hard heartedness; described Allaah with the deficiencies of the creation and their shortcomings, wilfully denied the Perfect Attributes which Allaah described Himself with and are not possessed by anyone besides Him, which have no likeness to the creation; and likewise their exaggeration regarding the status of the Prophets and righteous people, and they ascribed partners to Allaah – The Lord of the Aalameen – in worship; and their belief in Hulool and Ittihaad [i.e. that Allaah dwells in a particular person and that He is in union with the creation], which makes a created being the creator; and they abandoned the sound acts of worship that were from the path of the Prophets and Messengers, acted merely based on the desires of the heart- what it relishes and is passionately in love with; refrained from adhering to the knowledge which Allaah has revealed in His manifest Book, took their elders, scholars and leading worshippers as Lords besides Allaah by following them in that which they innovated in religion- in opposition to the path of the Prophets, as Allaah stated:

They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded [in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilah (God – Allah) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) . Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him).”

And they opposed that which was clearly reasonable [and supported by divine text] and the clear narrations due to what they thought was divine revelation and revelations of the unseen, even though it is whispering of the cursed one [Iblees], until the one upon this path became similar to one about whom Allaah stated: [وَقَالُواْ لَوۡ كُنَّا نَسۡمَعُ أَوۡ نَعۡقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِىٓ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ – And they will say: “Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!]” [Surah Al-Mulk. Aayah 10]

And Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And surely, We have created many of the jinns and mankind for Hell. They have hearts wherewith they understand not, they have eyes wherewith they see not, and they have ears wherewith they hear not (the truth). They are like cattle, nay even more astray. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayah 179]

And their other innovations in religious affairs and misguidance due to which Allaah rebuked them, and it is from that which Allaah has warned this Ummah and made it an admonition for those who have insight.

Indeed, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] informed us that these deeds [of the Yahood and Nsaaraa] will occur amongst some of the Muslims, even though he also stated, “There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah who will be established upon the truth, neither will they be harmed by those who oppose them nor by those who forsake them until the hour is established”, and that his Ummah will not agree upon misguidance, and that they will not be completely overcome by other nations; rather this group will not cease to be manifest, aided and adhering to the path of their Prophet; but there will definitely be those in the Ummah who will follow the ways of the Yahood,  the Nasaaraa, the Romans and fire worshippers, as it is reported in Bukhaari and Muslim from Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him] that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered the hole of a mastigure, you would follow them”. They [i.e. the people] said, “O Allaah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! (Do you mean) the Jews and Christians?” He said, “Who else?” The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “What happened to the nations will happen to my Ummah, span by span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch)”; so they [i.e. the people] said, “O Allaah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! (Do you mean) the Persians and the Romans?” He said, “Who else other than those ones?”

And there are hypocrites in the midst of the Islamic Ummah and the hypocrites will be in lowest depths of the fire- below the Yahood and Nasaaraa. This is why one will find in the hypocrites that which earned the Jews and Christians rebuke – those who manifest belief in everything brought by the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] whilst hiding the opposite of it in their hearts, such as the heretics and the Baatiniyyah, and even more so those amongst them who openly manifest their hearsay. And one will find this [i.e. the ways of the Jews and Christians] amongst some of the people of religious innovations- those who affirm in the Messengership of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] inwardly and outwardly, but they are confused by some of that which confused the Jews and Christians, so they follow the doubtful (ambiguous) matters and abandon that which is very clear, such as the Khawaarij and other than them amongst the proponents of religious innovations. Many of these people [i.e. the innovators in religious affairs] share the misguidance of the Christians in the subject matter regarding Allaah’s Attributes, such as the misguidance in declaring that Allaah is one with the creation; rather there are those heretics who are greater in misguidance than the Christians. [End of quote: An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deenul Maseeh. Vol 1. Pages20- 23. Slightly paraphrased]

Finally, we repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.
