The Importance of truthfulness – By Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [Part 1]

The Importance of truthfulness and its necessity for the (upright) establishment of the worldly and religious matters- By Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him

All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon Allah’s Messenger, his family, his companions, and those who follow his guidance. To proceed:

Indeed, the quality (trait) of truthfulness is one of the greatest foundations of both the religion and worldly matters; neither the worldly matters nor can the religion be upright through lies, betrayal, or deception. Truthfulness and (truthful) affirmation is the strong bond between the Messengers and those who believe in them. Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَالَّذِي جَاءَ بِالصِّدْقِ وَصَدَّقَ بِهِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ
لَهُم مَّا يَشَاءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

And he (Muhammad SAW) who has brought the truth (this Quran and Islamic Monotheism) and (those who) believed therein (i.e. the true believers of Islamic Monotheism), those are the pious. They shall have all that they will desire with their Lord. That is the reward of good-doers. [Az-Zumar 33-34]

He (Allah) stated about lies and denial (of truth):

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن كَذَبَ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَكَذَّبَ بِالصِّدْقِ إِذْ جَاءَهُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْكَافِرِينَ

Then, who does more wrong than one who utters a lie against Allah, and denies the truth [this Quran, the Prophet (Muhammad), the Islamic Monotheism, the Resurrection and the reward or punishment according to good or evil deeds] when it comes to him! Is there not in Hell an abode for the disbelievers? [Az-Zumar 32]

Due to the station of truthfulness and (truthful) affirmation of truth – in the Sight of Allah, among rational people, the possessors of sound natural disposition- and their good outcomes; and (due to) the danger of lies and denial of truth, I wish to present this speech that is derived from Allah’s Book and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and from the biography and circumstances of some of the truthful and faithful companions of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I beseech Allah to assist and grant me the ability through everything I am able to provide advice and clarification to my fellow Muslims. And I ask Him to place us all among those who are truthful, eager to adhere to the truth, and steadfast upon it; and make all of us among those who love the truth and strive to follow it, and (truthfully) affirm it. Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [44 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

By Allah! The Ummah will not be removed from its problems, humiliation and the degradation they are living in except through returning to the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of the Messenger and the understanding of the pious predecessors, (when dealing) with the Khawaarij and other than them. Al-Aajuriy said: “The scholars—past and present—do not differ that the khawarij are an evil people, disobedient to Allah and His Messenger, even if they pray, fast and strive in acts of worship”.

Adh-Dhari’ah ilaa Bayan Maqasid Kitaab Ash-Shari’ah 1/97

Stay out of it!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] said:

The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die). Nay! You shall come to know! Again, Nay! You shall come to know! Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things); verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)! And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight! Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in, in this world)! [Surah At-Takaathur]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him] stated:

This Surah is specifically based on the mention of promise, punishment and threat, and it is enough as an admonition for the one who understands it.

Regarding the statement of Allah: [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ – You are diverted] –

Meaning, they are preoccupied in a manner that is not free from blame, for indeed being diverted by something is to be preoccupied with it. So, if this occurs intentionally, then one is held accountable; but if it is not intentional, then one is excused, such as the statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, regarding the Khameesah [square garment], “Indeed, it has distracted my attention from the prayer”. (1) A person is pardoned for this because it is a type of (unintentional) forgetfulness. It is also said, [Lahaa Bish Shay – distracted by something]- meaning, busied with it; and [Lahaa Anhu – distracted from it]- meaning, if he turns away from something. The heart is that which is diverted and the limbs engage in play, and this is why Allah’s statement [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُر- The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you] is a stronger rebuke than the statement “they are preoccupied’, because the doer may preoccupy his limbs with what he is doing, but his heart is not diverted.

At-Takaathur means to compete one another in piling up something by way of mutual rivalry, but Allah did not mention the thing that is piled up, therefore the meaning is general. Everything a person competes in – other than obedience to Allah, obedience to the Messenger and that which benefits a person’s Afterlife – by way of mutual rivalry is included in this affair. It enters into every matter, such as wealth, status, leadership, women and speaking; or knowledge, especially when it is not utilised as proof; also collecting books, writing books, engaging in the discussion of numerous topics of the religion, categorising and initiating it. At-Takaathur occurs when a person seeks to amass more than others and this is blameworthy, except in that which earns a person Allah’s love, Pleasure and Reward, because seeking more than others in this affair is competition in good and to excel one another.

In a hadeeth in Sahih Muslim, Abdullah Ibn Ash-Shikkheer, may Allah be pleased with him, went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while he was reciting [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ]; then the Prophet said: The son of Adam claims: My wealth, my wealth! O son of Adam! Is there anything as your belonging except that which you consumed, which you utilised, or which you wore and then it was worn out or you gave as charity and sent it forward?” [An Excerpt from Al-Fawaa’id. Pages 58-59]

The basis of being diverted is due to heedlessness, then it affects every pursuit of the person. Rivalry in amassing abundant worldly things and boasting about it, such as two groups of people saying to one another, “We have more”. (2) Busied through turning away from obedience to Allah and worship; gathering wealth and children by way of mutual rivalry, boasting about your tribes and families, busy with livelihoods and trade by way of mutual rivalry. (3)

You have become preoccupied until you are diverted from what is more important such as remembrance of Allah and fulfilling acts of obedience to Him. This is an address to all the Ummah except those whose preoccupation with the affairs of the afterlife diverts them from the affairs of the worldly life and they are few. (4)

Allah [The Exalted] reprimanded His servants due to them busying themselves by tuning away from the purpose for which they were created, which is to worship Him alone without ascribing partners to Him, to know Him (by way of the signs He has created in the universe and the revelation given to the Messenger), turning to Him sincerely in obedience and repentance and giving precedence to loving Him over everything else; but you are diverted from this by mutual rivalry in pilling up worldly things. And Allah did not mention the thing that causes the mutual rivalry in pilling up worldly things so this verse includes all things, such as wealth, children, supporters, armies, servants, status and other than that through which a competitor intends to compete another competitor and the intent is not sincerity to Allah [The Exalted]. (5)

[حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ- The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, until you visit the graves]- Meaning, until death comes to you whilst you are upon this state of affairs; then you are placed in the graves as visitors and finally returned to your permanent abodes [on the day of resurrection]- either Jannah or Jahannam, just as a visitor returns to his permanent dwelling place. (6)

The human being reaches old age and still hopes for things- to the extent that a man reaches ninety years of age and you find him hoping and having prolonged hope for worldly things more than a fifteen year old youth. This is the meaning of the noble verse – that you are diverted by mutual rivalry in amassing worldly things until you die. Umar Bin Abdil Azeez, may Allah have mercy upon him, used this verse as proof that a visitor has to return to his permanent place and that the grave is not a permanent place of residence. Likewise, it has been mentioned regarding a Bedouin that he heard a reciter reciting, “The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, until you visit the graves”, so he said, “By Allah! You will be resurrected”. (7)

Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [40 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The upright jurist of Basra and the most intelligent of them- Salam Bin Abee Mutee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “It is more beloved to me that I meet Allah with the scroll of Hajjaj than meet Him with the scroll of Amr Ibn Ubaid”. Amr Ibn Ubaid was a Zaahid (one who abstained from the unnecessary pleasurs of the worldly life) and a worshipper MaaShaa-Allah, but he was an innovator in religion and a misguided, while Al-Hajjaj was an evil doer, a blood shedder and a criminal. He [Salam Bin Abee Mutee] held that if he were to make a choice between meeting Allah with the scroll of Hajjaj and that of Amr Ibn Ubaid, he would choose to meet Allah with the scroll of Hajjaj-the blood shedder and oppressive evil doer. Why is this? (This is) due to his realisation regarding the danger and ugliness of bidah. It is enough for us that the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, described (bidah) in his khutbah as the worst of all affairs, as reported in the Hadith of Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him.

All in the fire except one

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked: “What is the intent behind the statement of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, statement when he spoke about the Ummah in the hadith: “All of them (the sects) are in the fire except one” and what is that one?. Also, will all the other 72 (deviant) sects be in the fire for eternity? Benefit us”.

Response: The prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “The Jews split into 71 sects, meaning all of them are astray and their affair ruined, except one. The Christians split into 72 sects, meaning all of them are astray and their affair ruined, except one. And this Ummah will split into 73 sects- all of them in the fire, except one. This one group is Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah [those who firmly adhere to the authentic Prophetic Sunnah and are united upon that] – the companions of the Prophet and those who follow them exactly in faith, the adherents to pure Islamic monotheism and sound faith.

As for the other 72 sects that have been threatened with the fire, among them is one who is a disbeliever (a), among them is one who is a sinner and among them is one about whom it is established with clear evidence that he is an innovator in religious affairs. So, the one – among them – that dies in a state of disbelief (b) will be in the fire for eternity, the one that dies in a state of adherence to religious innovation that is lesser than major disbelief (c) or sins is under the will of Allah, while still threatened with the fire. So, based on this it is known that not all of them are disbelievers, but rather among them is a disbeliever and other than him among the sinners and the innovators in religious affairs. [1]

May Allah bless and reward our beloved brother Zulfikaar for sharing the Arabic text Imam Ibn Baz’s clarification Aameen

——————————————–

[a and b]: NB: Takfeer – declaring that a Muslim left the fold of Islaam is a judgement that can only be given by the upright scholars and none else.  https://www.manhaj.com/manhaj/articles/obkwf-takfir-and-the-excuse-of-ignorance-shaykh-saalih-al-fawzaan.cfm

[c]: NB: All innovations in the religion are evil, but there are those that exit a person from the fold of Islam (Bida’atul Mukaffirah) and those that do not exit a person from the fold of Islam (Bida’atul Mufassiqah). Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khalee [may Allaah preserve him] was asked whether there is a difference between Bidah Al-Mukaffirah and Bidah Al-Mufassiqah; so he replied that there is Bidah Mukaffirah, such as rejecting the Ruyah (i.e. denying that the believers will see Allaah in the afterlife); rejecting Allaah’s Uluww [i.e. denying that Allaah is above his creation –Allaah ascended over the Throne in a way that benefits his majesty)]; invoking other than Allaah; offering slaughtered sacrifice (i.e. animals) to other than Allaah etc. These are affairs of Bidah Al-Mukaffirah (the bidah that is tantamount to disbelief). But we do not make Takfeer of the people who commit this type of Bidah until we establish the proofs against them. That is because some of them (i.e. the people who fall into these affairs) carry doubts and are far away from the era of Prophethood and its light (i.e. guidance). So they fall into the likes these innovations. Rejecting the Ruyah is disbelief; rejecting Allaah’s Uluww is disbelief; the saying that the Qur’aan is created is disbelief-major disbelief. But this person, -[who testifies that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allaah, and he prays, observes fasting, wants paradise and believes in that] -received the doubts of the people of falsehood, so he falls into the likes of these affairs (i.e. these innovations that are tantamount to disbelief). So we say to him: You have fallen into disbelief and the evidence is this and this, and we clarify for him. So if Allaah grants him Tawfeeq and he returns to the truth, then all praise is due to Allaah. But if not, we declare him a disbeliever after establishing the proofs against him. As for Bidah Al-Mufassiqah it is other than this (i.e. it is not at the level of that which is tantamount to disbelief)…

The Victorious Group

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah upon the truth; neither will they be harmed by those who betray them nor those who oppose them until the command of Allah arrives [i.e. the day of judgement]”. [Al-Bukhari]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

This group will not cease to exist in the Ummah. The Ummah will not be deprived of this Sunni Group. This Taa’ifah (Group) can be one group. If it adheres to the Qur’an and the Sunnah, it is the Taa’ifah Al-Mansoorah (The Victorious Group), even if it is only one. The Ummah will not lose this Sunni Group, this good group, and all praise be to Allah, until the command of Allaah comes to pass (i.e. the Day of Judgment]. “They will not be harmed by those who forsake them”. Amongst the people are those who forsake them and those who oppose them, but they will not be harmed. This is from Allah’s Grace upon His servants and that He will establish the truth for the one who aids the truth and call to it, even if evil is rife. There will be those who adhere to good, call to it and spread it amongst the people. Not all the Ummah will be misguided, rather, some will remain upon truth, but they might be strangers, as the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Islam began as a strange thing and it will return as a strange thing, and glad tidings to the strangers”. They asked, “Who are the strangers O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “They are those who will be upright when the people become corrupt”.. and in another version of this hadith “Those who rectify what the people have corrupted”. These are the strangers because the majority of the people oppose them, belittle, forsake and keep away from what they are upon, but this will not harm them. “They will never be harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them”. Allah will make them remain so that His Proofs remain amongst the creation until the end of time.

This group maybe in the East, the West, or the North etc…They are not in a specific place, but they are present. Whoever wants will find it. It is present and all praise is due to Allah. Alhamdulil laah, we – at present – are upon a correct methodology, upon a sound methodology; our methodology is that which the Qur’an and sunnah necessitate, our learning is based upon the Qur’an and the Sunnah. We study Tafsir, hadith and its explanation, the Aqeedah of the pious predecessors and that which they were upon. Alhamadulil laah at present we are upon a correct path, a sound methodology and straight path. We ask Allah to keep us firm upon it until we meet him, neither substituting nor changing it.

Islamic Awakening

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

All the praises and thanks be to Allah- the Lord of the worlds- and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. To proceed: The Islamic Awakening did not originate in recent times; rather, it traces back to the moment Allah sent His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the message of Islam, and people entered it in crowds and groups. All praise be to Allah, good has persisted within the Ummah, as the Prophet stated, “There will always be a group among my Ummah that (remains) steadfast in the truth. They will not be harmed by those who abandon them or oppose them until Allah’s command uis established (i.e. the Day of Judgement). Despite the ongoing struggle between truth and falsehood, there have consistently been advocates for the truth and their supporters, adhering to the correct methodology. Throughout history, the Ummah has never been entirely dormant or misled to the extent that a faction could claim a distinct identity, such as “Islamic Awakening,” because this would imply that the entire Islamic World was misguided prior to their emergence. This contradicts the Prophet’s statement that “There will always be a group among my Ummah that remains manifest in the truth,” as well as his statement “My Ummah will never unite upon misguidance.”

Indeed, this (revival) is praiseworthy and safe from criticism when it is based on the methodology of the righteous callers and the pious predecessors, grounded in the Book of Allah, the Sunnah, and the path of the pious predecessors of this Ummah – free from associations that contradict the methodology of the pious predecessors. The primary objective should be to gain knowledge of the truth in order to act upon it and promote it, as well as to recognize falsehood to avoid it and caution others against it. This endeavor should not be motivated by a desire for leadership, dominance, insurrection against the main body of Muslims united behind a ruler, or disobedience to Muslim rulers. Such an approach does not align with the correct methodology of Dawah or that of the pious predecessors; instead, it is the methodology of the Khawaarij and the Mutazilah, groups that have strayed from the teachings of the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the path of the early Muslims. These groups have been a source of shame in Islamic history and a detriment to the Ummah. We beseech Allah to guide the misguided Muslims towards the right path. Reflections from some statements of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al Mad’khali [32 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Excerpt From a Lesson of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Mad’khali – may Allah preserve him:

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, was asked: Some accuse the Salafi Dawah in our time of being harsh, and that it is incumbent upon the callers to be gentle with the people of Bidah. Is this correct, and what should be the response to them whilst bearing in mind that the time at present is different from the previous one and men in this time are different from previous men? May Allah reward you with good.

Response: This behaviour -attacking the Salafis of harshness – is not new, but rather it is an old affair. From the time of (Imam) Ahmad ibn Hanbal, before and after him to this day, the people of falsehood cannot confront the people of truth except through misrepresentation (distortion). There are many misrepresentations (distortions), and not only (the false accusation of) harshness. The misrepresentations are many, and their accusation of harshness is nothing but one of many thoughts. Surely, they will accuse them of being Khawaarij (1), Mujassimah, and Mushabbihah. (2) Every (deviant) group accuses them (Salafis) of something by way of which the deviant group’s corrupt creed can be disapproved.

The Jahmiyyah (2.1) call them Mushabbihah and Mujassimah because they affirm Allah’s Attributes that are in His Book (i.e. The Qur’an) and the Sunnah of His Prophet [may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and they affirm them in the manner that is befitting for Allah [The Blessed and Most High]. The Khawaarij and Mutazilah (3) accuse them of being Murji’ah (4), and the Rafidah (5) accuse them of being Nawasib (6) because they do not exaggerate in the manner they exaggerate the status of the Prophet’s family and so on. Meaning, my beloved brother, that they accuse them of harshness, (that they are the government) stooges, and spies, and that they are scholars whose knowledge is restricted to rulings on menstruation and postpartum, and other evil accusations that are presented by the callers to evil, falsehood and misguidance. So, there is nothing else other than that Salafis carry on explaining their call to the path of Allah with clear-sightedness. At the same time, they must have lofty manners such as patience, forbearance, wisdom, and other good and noble qualities that are compatible with this great Dawah. Alongside this, they train themselves to exercise patience while encountering what is said about them, and let them take as their role models the Prophets, those who have preceded them (in Islam), and the Imams of knowledge and guidance.

The Qur’an mentioned to us regarding the enemies of the Prophets that they accused them of lying, sorcery, soothsaying, insanity, and they accused them of many things. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the one who calls to Allah’s path- the one who is sincere to Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] – that he takes as his role model these Prophets and whoever follows their path among the Imams of Islam. When it is the case that despite their lofty statuses they were not spared from these accusations and verbal abuse, then how can we, the weak and poor (in knowledge and faith), be spared?! “Reward (for a deed is given) according to the level of exertion”, “The people put to trial the most were the Prophets, then the next best, then the next best”. Allah says:

And if Allāh had so willed, He could have punished (and destroyed) them (without you). But (He commanded you to fight against them) in order to test some of you with others]. [7] However, He wants some people to be a test for others (based on His Perfect Knowledge, Wisdom, and Justice), so whoever succeeds in this test and trial, Allah will raise his rank and honor him in this world and the Hereafter. [8] Indeed, many people may lose courage, lose their strength, and lose heart – either snuggle, [ فيخلد إلى الأرض – and then cling to the earth (i.e. preoccupied and diverted by the things of the worldly life)] or deviate as happens to many people. These people lose courage in the face of this affliction.

Therefore, we ask Allah [The Blessed and Most High] to keep us and you away from the causes of losing courage and the causes of defeat. By Allah, it is a battle between truth and falsehood that is more severe than military battles. The psychological war being waged in this era against Salafi callers (to Islam)is unparalleled. Because the media outlets have multiplied, and their arena has expanded in the east and west of the earth, and the presence of the devils among humankind in this era, I don’t think one can find their equal in plotting to wage war against the Salafi methodology and its adherents. I don’t think anything similar to it has preceded centuries ago – as it has been stated -because at present there is art in plotting, scheming, lies, rumours, and what is said by what is referred to as the malicious media.

Sa’eed Hawaa, one of the distinguished personalities of the “Muslim Brotherhood (Sect)” [9]- one of the senior (figureheads), who wrote many books that served this corrupt methodology, and they used to hold him in high regard until he reached a great status among them; then a disagreement arose between them… [what comes after statement is missing from the audio]

Then the Qutbists [10] came after them, and it is said that if these mentioned orientations (or groups) gathered with the Muslim Brotherhood (Sect), they would not achieve what the Qutbists have achieved in attacking Ahlus Sunnah with regards to misrepresenting (or distorting the true methodology of Ahlus Sunnah), but one must exercise patience. [Allah says]: [إِنَّما يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ حِسابٍ – Only those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full, without reckoning]. [Surah Az-Zumar. Ayah 10]

We ask Allah [The Blessed and Most High] to guide them or stop their enmity, and that Allah Exalt His statement, and support His religion. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplications.

The reader of the questions said: May Allah reward you with good. O Shaikh! It is also stated in the question with another expression (as follows): Is the Mubtadi [Footnote a] in our era treated as the Mubtadi in the earlier era (because) there is no doubt that the era of Imam Ahmad was different from this present era of ours?

Response: The religion ordained by Allah does not change and varies based on people changing and adopting different (ways, orientations, views, etc). The religion ordained by Allah (remains as) the religion ordained by Allah, and Allah’s call (remains as) Allah’s call. The dealings during the era of the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], in the era of Imaam Ahmad, Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, and Shaikhul Islam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhaab, and thereafter, all emanate from Allah’s Book (The Qur’an) and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger. Their methodology is one, but there is a need for someone to apply this methodology and know how to deal with Ahlul Bidah in the light of the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

Ahlul Bidah must be warned against, their faults (attributed to the religion) exposed, and their misguidance clarified. This is one of the most obligated obligations and prescribed duties. What they say that the situation is different and that times are different is that do not want you to speak about Ahlul Bidah because these (deviated) parties (groups) are submissive to innovated, misguided leaderships (or leaders), so when you speak about their misguided leaderships (or leaders)- criticising them, they want you to remain silent. Therefore, do not be led astray by these tactics. They say (i.e. claim) that Ahmed was (such and such), Ibn Taymiyyah was (such and such)- distort their speech and objectives. All of this is to silence Ahlus Sunnah and address them with a speech that will make them dumbfounded to make them keep quiet about their leaders, and indeed, they have made every effort to silence Ahlus Sunnah. But all that Ahlus Sunnah has to do is roll up their sleeves and strive to raise the word of Allah, spread the Sunnah and manifest it, and refute Bidah with everything they can do in every country. It is necessary to clarify these affairs for the people, such as differentiating between truth and falsehood, guidance and misguidance, and Sunnah and Bidah, which the people of Bidah and the proponents of abominable partisanship do not want- those who hide behind the term Salafiyyah through plotting and stratagem.

Indeed, they seek to distort Salafiyyah with great force so that they can crush it. That is why you see these people pursuing the Salafi call and its youth everywhere to crush it and establish on its ruins their innovated, corrupt methodologies. This is something tangible. In any case, it is necessary to speak about Ahlul Bidah, warning against them is necessary, and it is Jihad. They (i.e. the scholars) said in the time of Imaam Ahmed, “Jihad against Ahlul Bidah” or they said, “Defending the Sunnah is better than striking with swords (in Jihad)”. Ibn Taymiyyah – during his era – rolled up his sleeves and exerted himself in a manner that surpassed many of the Imams of Islam before him because he encountered many Bidah, so he confronted them with Allah’s Book and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], refuted them and restrained their proponents together with his forbearance, knowledge, and wisdom. From those affairs related to the clarification that is based on wisdom and the rights of knowledge is the distinction between truth and falsehood, guidance and misguidance, Sunnah and Bidah. Allah says: [وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُ – (And remember) when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) to make it (the news of the coming of Prophet Muhammad and the religious knowledge) known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it]. [Surah Al-Imran. Ayah 187]

I swear by Allah, the Prophets strove and stood up to remove the people out of darkness (and entered them) into light, and scholars are heirs of Prophets (in knowledge, religion, guidance, etc). Therefore, it is necessary to strive and roll up the sleeves to rescue the people from the darkness (and enter them into) light (i.e. by the permission of Allah). I say to these Masaakeen [i.e. these people who are very needy in their understanding and stances] that I swear by Allah that Ahlus Sunnah are the most sincere advisers and the most eager regarding what will benefit the people in their religion and their worldly affairs. I swear by Allah that whoever wants to silence Ahlus Sunnah is one who harms, betrays, and deceives the Ummah. He is the one who does not care whether the people are entered into the depths of the fire, or whether they are saved or not. As for Ahlus Sunnah, I swear by Allah that they only want good for the people, and they only want this Ummah to follow the path of their Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and his straight path to enter Paradise or whoever Allah wills to enter into Paradise. When Ahlus Sunnah strives and stands up for (the truth), it is not for anything, but to guide these people and present what will benefit them in their religion and worldly affairs, and by Allah those who defend Ahlul Bidah are enemies of the people. They are the ones who harm them and prevent them from the truth that can reach them through the callers (to Islam) among Ahlus Sunnah.

So, how does our time differ from the time of Imaam Ahmed?! In the time of Ahmed, it was permissible to speak about Ahlul Bidah and warn against them, but now it is not permissible?! Clarify what you want! What do you want from this statement? Do you want us not to clarify the truth for the people, and that we do not warn them against misguidance, and Bidah, and that we not teach them the correct beliefs and correct approaches? What do you want? Clarify for us. There is deception and generality (that needs explanation) in this speech, may Allah bless you. This is why, as I emphasised to you, they do not want – at all -speech directed at the figureheads of Bidah and misguidance. Hence, they initiated the methodology of Muwaazanaat [Footnote b] after they lost hope that Ahlus Sunnah would not remain silent. They initiated the methodology of Muwaazanaat to praise their leaders (of Bidah and misguidance), and thereafter speak about their mistakes. Despite being (rightfully) disgraced, they are unwilling and do not the mistakes of their leaders to be mentioned, but if you must speak, then speak based on counterbalancing (i.e. Muwaazanaat). They institute in the religion ordained by Allah that which Allah has not allowed, and forbid what Allah has established about propagating Allah’s Message, the advice to be given to Muslims, and to warn them against what would harm them in their religion and worldly affairs. They forbid these affairs, thus they commit a greater crime against Islam than those whom they call Tawaagheet (false gods) and fight them to gain access to the seats of (political) leadership. [4] Who are the Mur’jiah? This innovation occurred just prior to the end of the first century hijrah, and there is some difference as to who the originator was, with the names presented such as Dharr bin Abdullaah al-Hamdaanee, Qays al-Maasir and Hammaad bin Abi Sulaymaan – they all lived in the same era and in the same locality, al-Kufah in Iraq, so it is certain that the idea origination in a certain location. This irjaa’ was that of the Jurists (Fuquhaa) and which manifested in the Hanafis. Al-Jahm bin Safwaan (see the section on the Jahmiyyah below) also propounded irjaa’ and his was an extreme form that was passed on through the factions of the Mutakallimoon. irjaa’ is to expel actions from the reality of faith (Eemaan) and to restrict faith to being only what is in the heart, or what is upon the tongue, or only in the heart and tongue. And thus, all the legislated actions, be the obligatory or recommended, are considered external to the essence and reality of Eemaan (faith).

[5] Who are the Raafidah? They are extreme Shi’ites who are commonly known as the Twelvers (Ithnaa Asharah). A Yemeni Jew, by the name of Abdullaah bin Saba’ was the founder of this group, and he appeared in the time of ‘Alee (radiallaahu anhu). He instigated a revolution against the Caliph Uthmaan (radiallaahu anhu) and mustered other Muslims together for that purpose, claiming that Alee had more right to be the Caliph. He, in common with the Khawaarij, raised the banner of “social justice” for that purpose. He eventually deified Alee, declaring him to be Allaah. Alee ordered him and followers to be burned to death, but Abdullaah bin Saba’ escaped to a place called al-Madaa’in.

The Raafidah Shi’ah proclaim love for Alee and the Ahl ul-Bayt (family of the Prophet). Their main doctrine is that the Caliphate belonged to Alee’ after the Prophet and that the Imaamate is the right of the Ahl ul-Bayt (offspring of Alee’). They declare most of the Companions to be disbeleivers except for a handful, and they have specific enmity towards Abu Bakr and Umar (radiallaahu anhumaa). They claim infallibility (al-ismah) for their Imaams, and give them divine attributes such as knowing the unseen. They make the issue of Imaamah (leadership) to be from the greatest of the pillars of the religion. They claim the Qur’an is incomplete and have their own Qur’aan, and they curse and revile the Companions and the wives of the Prophet (alayhis salaam), this being worship for them. They also make deception (taqiyah) to be a pillar of their religion. As they evolved they acquired other innovations, such as those of the Mu’tazilah and those of the Mushabbihah, Mujassimah. They also plunged in their morals and are the most lying and deceiving of people. The Rafidah Shi’ah are also very adept at spreading their poison.

[9] Muslim Brotherhood: The so-called “Muslim Brotherhood” (al-Ikhwan al-Muslimeen) is an organization that was set up in Egypt in 1928 and modeled upon a prior organization set up by the suspect figure Jamal ul-Din al-Afghani. Its founder, Hasan al-Banna was an Ash’ari and Hasawi Sufi. Its two most influential figureheads are Hasan al-Banna and Sayyid Qutb and they each laid down the foundations for the two major strains of Ikhwani thought and methodology. Hasan al-Banna brought the alleged “golden principle” of accommodating all of the deviant sects in order to amass as large a number as possible (to be used to help achieve the political goals and aspirations of the leaders of this group). This included making inroads, allegiances and friendships with the Iranian Rafidah. Sayyid Qutb (website) brought the elements of Takfir (of all contemporary Muslim societies) and the necessity of revolution (against them) through which rulers are targeted and replaced. Both these methodologies work hand in hand and are two sides of the same coin. As a result, the Muslim Brotherhood has been a useful tool for creating chaos and corruption both in religious and worldly affairs and served as a useful proxy to help achieve geo-political agendas. http://www.ikhwanis.com/index.cfm

Attributing Disorder and Turmoil to Salafiyyah – A Brief Rebuttal to Ephrem Kossaify

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Verily, a slave (of Allah) may utter a word which pleases Allah without giving it much importance, and because of that Allah will raise him to degrees (of reward): a slave (of Allah) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases Allah without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 6478]

This hadith serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers associated with our speech and the repercussions of talking without knowledge or reverence for Allah. Ephrem Kossaify displayed a troubling and hazardous lack of understanding regarding Salafiyyah while discussing issues of white supremacy, racism, and the murder of George Floyd in the following manner:

“It could be that those Arabs who say white nationalism is America’s greatest peril are in fact exposing their own anxieties about ethnicity, sectarianism and violent extremism. “Islamic extremism, be it in its Salafist or Muslim Brotherhood versions, uses force to change the world view, starting in their own country, and expanding to include infidels of other nations. Look what just happened in France,” El-Hady said, referring to Samuel Paty, a teacher who was beheaded near his school on Oct. 6 for showing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in class. The perpetrator, an 18-year-old ethnic Chechen named Abdullakh Anzorov, is alleged to have had ties to Islamic extremist groups abroad. “These terrorist organizations that have plagued the Arab world are much more dangerous than white nationalism,” said El-Hady]. [source: Arab News. October 26, 2020, EPHREM KOSSAIFY. Updated 27 October 2020]

We begin by reminding this audacious slanderer of Salafiyyah about the seriousness of making uninformed judgments on religious issues. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Since the true followers of the Prophets and the adherents of the Prophetic Sunnah are those who possess knowledge and justice, their discourse towards unbelievers and proponents of religious innovations must be based on knowledge and justice rather than conjecture and what the soul desires. And because of this, the Prophet [peace be upon him and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: “The judges are three: one will go to Paradise and two to Hell. A man who knows the truth and judges with it will enter paradise; a man who knows the truth but judges with the opposite of it will enter the fire, and a man who judges for the people based on ignorance will enter the fire”. [Abu Dawud 3573]

And if it is the case that the person who judges between people over matters of wealth, blood (such as murder cases, physical assault, etc.), and honour will burn in hell if he is not a just scholar, then what about the person who renders judgements on creeds, religions, the fundamentals of belief, divine knowledge, and the broad fundamental principles relating to many subject subjects without knowledge or fairness, as is the case with those who advocate for religious innovations and desires – those who adhere to ambiguous, dubious topics, disregard the unambiguous texts that the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them] transmitted, cling to issues that are vaguely related through analogy and opinion, and then present issues whose differences cannot be equated or reconciled. [Al-Jawaabus Saheeh 1/26-30]

Furthermore, it is unnecessary to engage in discussions surrounding white supremacy, racism, and terrorism, as any reasonable individual recognizes the profound immorality inherent in these ideologies. Ephrem’s perilous ignorance and misguided assertions led him to draw unfounded parallels between Salafiyyah and the methods employed by terrorists. However, this slander is far from novel; it represents a familiar strategy employed by many secularists, Zionists, demagogues, journalists, rabble-rousers and their cohorts, aimed at undermining the legitimacy of Salafiyyah. Thus, it is imperative that we illuminate the misconceptions held by this charlatan and others who seek to obscure the true essence of Salafiyyah. Saudi Salafi Scholar, Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

The creed and methodologies of the kharijites somewhat influenced the political groups that emerged during this era. And as a result, they do not place any value on matters other than politics, do not care about improving the Ummah’s situation through (sound) creed and knowledge, and do not consider matters pertaining to the Ummah’s return to the Book, the Sunnah, and the piety and steadfastness that the pious predecessors were upon in all aspects of the Religion. Rather, they make the Ummah more corrupt in creed and conduct. Thus, you see them waging war against the scholars (i.e. the upright scholars) and the people who (truly) follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah while pledging loyalty to those who promote misguidance and innovation in religion. They set up false goals and catchphrases for proponents of misguidance and innovations in religion, and among them are Sayyid Qutb and his followers, who adopted the creed, methodology, and political views of the Khawarij, the Rawafid, the Mu’tazilah, and the Jahmiyyah, particularly when it comes to the topic of Takfir based on oppression and ignorance. He said that all human societies are ignorant pre-Islamic societies, with the Muslim Ummah being the worse in their apostasy and state of pre-Islamic ignorance. Later, the Baatiniyyah path was added to this (methodology of his, such as) assassinations, and blowing up (buildings, people, etc.). Then, on the basis of a daring conspiracy against the leaders (of the Salafi Methodology), his adherents claim to represent the Salafi Methodology. As a result, if you are aware of this, you will be able to identify the treacherous ones and know that the Salafi Methodology is free from this kind of Takfir and devastation. If you are aware of this, it would be equivalent to an act of evident oppression when the Raafidah, the secularists, and the rationalists attribute (false) Takfir, and destruction to the Salafi methodology.  (1)

Saudi Salafi Scholar, Al-Allamah Saaleh Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

“Salafiyyah is to follow the path of Salafus Saalih (The pious predecessors) – the companions of Muhammad, the followers of Muhammad’s companions and the virtuous generations. Allah [The Most High] said: [وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِينَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِـإِحۡسَـٰنٍ۬ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡہُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُ -And the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansaar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhaajiroon) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him]. [9:100]

Allah [The Most High] said about Muhammad’s companions:

Verily, those who believed, and emigrated and strove hard and fought with their property and their lives in the Cause of Allah as well as those who gave (them) asylum and help, – these are (all) allies to one another [8:72] until Allah stated: [وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدُ وَهَاجَرُواْ وَجَـٰهَدُواْ مَعَكُمۡ فَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ مِنكُمۡ‌ۚ – And those who believed afterwards, and emigrated and strove hard along with you, (in the Cause of Allaah) they are of you]. [8:75]

Allah said in Surah Al-Hashar:

(And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allaah and to please Him. And helping Allaah (i.e. helping His religion) and His Messenger (Muhammad). Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say); And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them.” [59:8-9]- up until His [The Most High] statement:

[وَٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَلِإِخۡوَٲنِنَا ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلۡإِيمَـٰنِ – And those who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith]. 59:10

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “This ummah will split into seventy-three sects; all of them will enter the fire except one. They said, ‘Which is that (saved sects) O Messenger of Allaah?’ He replied, ‘Those who are upon that which I and my companions are upon today’. The Prophet said, ‘Adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafaa after me’. (see footnote a)

We are required to adhere to the Salafiyyah Methodology, and we must give up any other approaches that go against it. Salafiyyah is the Methodology that has been obligated on us to follow and we are to abandon all other methodologies that are in opposition to it. The adherents to Salafiyyah are the saved sect, Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah, and they are the aided group till the Day of Judgement. May Allaah include us among them.  However, in order for a Muslim to adhere to this methodology, they must be aware of its basics. And to avoid the various methodologies that are in conflict with Salafiyyah, (one) must be aware of them.

As a result, Salafiyyah on the path of the pious predecessors must be (adopted) on the basis of knowledge and discernment. It is insufficient for a person to identify as Salafi while being either unaware of or opposed to it. Allaah [The Most High] said: [ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِـإِحۡسَـٰنٍ۬ – And also those who followed them exactly (in Faith)].

They follow them (i.e. the pious predecessors) based on knowledge, never engaging in either extreme or negligent behaviour. They don’t overstate the case or fail to give it its due, unlike those who identify with the four imams’ schools of law (Abu Haneefah, Maalik, Shaafi’ee, and Ahmad), although disagreeing with them on matters of creed and worship. And like the one who ascribes to the path of the pious predecessors, however, he either declares Muslims to be unbelievers or rebels against Muslim rulers, or he takes further steps in the direction of extremism.  This person is not a Salafi; instead, he is referred to as a Khaariji or a Mutazili. Or like the person who claims to follow the methodology of the pious predecessors but agrees with the Mur’ji’a’s stance on the subject matter of Eemaan and Kufr. This isn’t Salafiyyah. Therefore, it is imperative to pay attention to this matter and avoid combining the Salafi methodology with other methodologies that are opposed to it and then declaring that all of these methodologies, including the Salafi methodology, are not from Islam. This is careless speech and oppressive judgement, and it amounts to deceiving the people. (2)

The elucidations provided by Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi and Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve them, are undeniably ample to dispel the nefarious allegations put forth by the deceitful and audacious Ephrem Kossaify. May Allah guide him or protect us from his slanders Amin.

Reflections from some statements of Al Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali [29 of 80]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] as follows:

All of you hold onto the Rope of Allah [i.e. The Qur’an and authentic Sunnah]- Allah will aid you in this and make you like the sun; return to the understanding of the righteous predecessors, and it is, as I said to you, transmitted (and established) in your presence. This is a challenge to those who oppose this. We are challenging ahlul bidah wal ahwaa [the proponents of innovation in religious affairs and followers of desires] in their creed and politics. We say, between us and you is the (path, understanding of the) pious predecessors and books (of the pious predecessors). Ahmad [i.e. Imam Ahmad] used to say to the proponents of innovation in religious affairs, “Between us and you are the funerals (i.e. whose funeral will be attended by ahlus sunnah in great numbers)”. We say (i.e. at present), “Between us and you are the books (of the pious predecessors)- the books are present! Allah said to His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him]: [قل فَأْتُوا بِالتَّوْرَاةِ فَاتْلُوهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ – All food was lawful to the Children of Israel, except what Israel made unlawful for himself before the Taurat (Torah) was revealed. Say (O Muhammad ): “Bring here the Taurat (Torah) and recite it, if you are truthful”]- So they bring the Torah and you proof them to be upon falsehood.

We bring the books of the pious predecessors – the Qur’an, the Sunnah, the books of Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasaa’ee, and what was authored by Ahmad and others; we bring them (to prove) those who are on the path of these (pious predecessors) and those who turn away and oppose them. Just as Allaah challenged the Jews to bring the Torah, so the Torah was brought and they were exposed them, (likewise), we challenge these people to bring the books of the pious predecessors, so that the innovator in religious affairs is exposed, and to clarify who the deviants are- whether us or them? Are they able to challenge? Can they open their mouths like this? We fill our mouths with courage – challenge everyone who says that we are upon other than methodology of the pious predecessors. We, by Allaah, call to the methodology of the pious predecessors- to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. We use the book of Allaah and the Sunnah as proof for our beliefs, our acts of worship, dealings with rulers and their subjects, in dealing with the groups and sects. As for the others, they are upon tricks, deception etc By Allah, you will not find with them anything but tricks and manipulating the emotions of youth”.[Paraphrased.
