The Evil of Khurooj (Rebellion) With the Sword Is Always Preceded By Khurooj with the Tongue- By Shaikh Uthaymeen

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said, “There is no khurooj with the sword except that it is preceded by Khurooj with the tongue”. [Ref 1]

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzan (may Allaah preserve him) was asked:

The one (i.e. Dhul Khuwaysirah) who said to the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wsallam): ‘’be just’’; is he considered to be from the Sahaabah or is he a khaarijee, alongside the fact that he did not rebel against the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and did not disbelieve through major (kufr etc)?

Answer:

The one (i.e. Dhul Khuwaysirah) who said to the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) ‘’be just’’ is not a just person. This was the beginning of the khawaarij in view of the fact that he accused him of oppression.  And it is not a condition that the khawaarij have to carry weapons, rather he (the person) is from the khawaarij and upon their school of thought if he believes in declaring Muslims disbelievers due to major sins (they commit). If he incites (the people) against the one in charge of the affairs through sermons and writing, (then) this is the school of thought of the khawaarij even if he does not carry weapons.

The khawaarij are of different types: Amongst them are those who carry weapons; there are those who speak like the who said to the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), ”Be Just”; amongst them are those who write and amongst them is the one who believes in his heart, but he neither speaks nor does anything; however he has the belief of the khawaarij in his creed.  But some of them are worse than others. [9] A Scholar of Makkah [Abdul Azeez Bin Yahyah (240AH)] -How He Prepared Himself before Facing Bishr Al-Mareesiy In Al-Ma’moon’s Presence

Abdul Azeez Bin Yahyah Bin Abdil Azeez Bin Muslim Bin Maymoon Al-Kinaaniy Al-Makkiy Al-Faqee (The jurist and scholar of sound understanding) Ash-Shaafi’ee [240AH] was from the scholars of Makkah; he wrote a treatise (titled) Al-Haydah.

He (rahimahullaah) stated in the beginning of the treatise:

It reached me  whilst I was at Makkah (regarding) what Bishr Bin Ghiyaath Al-Mareesiy proclaimed at Baghdad that the Qur’aan is created and other than it-  (propagating it by way) of propaganda to the people to agree with him and his school of thought; confused the leader of the believers Al-Ma’moon and his Awliyaa [governors, administrators, helpers in his administration etc] and the trial the people were subjected to; entering them into disbelief and misguidance; terrorising the people (i.e. the scholars) and made them afraid of arguing against him (i.e. Bishr); arguing against them (in order to stop them) from refuting him by way of that which will annihilate his speech (that the Qur’aan is created), invalidating his proofs and nullifying his school of thought; and that the believers were hiding themselves in their houses, refraining from the prayer in congregation and the Jumu’ah prayer; fleeing from one land to another out of fear for themselves and their religion; and that many of the ignorant ones and the rabble amongst the people were agreeing with his (i.e. Bishr’s) disbelief and misguidance; entering into bidah and adopting his school of thought out of a desire for the Dunyah and fear of the punishment that was afflicted on those who opposed his school of thought.

Then Abdul Azeez (rahimahullaah) said: My anxiety disturbed (my state of sleep) and my nights were that of sleeplessness; my thoughts abided (i.e. I never stopped thinking about the affair) and my distress and grief was prolonged; so I left my land (i.e. Makkah) whilst turning to Allaah (for aid and assistance); asking Him for safety and (for what I was seeking to) attain until I reach Baghdad. Then I witnessed the ruthlessness regarding the affair (i.e. the fitna at Baghdad), which was twice as much as what reached me (about it whilst I was at Makkah). So I sought refuge with Allaah, invoked Him, humbled myself to Him – out of a fervent desire to reach what is beloved and fleeing away from the cause of fear; humbling myself to Him (with the tears and trembling etc whilst beseeching Him for aid and assistance); stretching my hands to Him (in supplication), asking Him for guidance and to be directed towards good deeds; to be facilitated with the ability to carry out what I was seeking to achieve; to grant me support, look after me and neither to forsake me nor entrust me to myself. And that He facilitates my heart with understanding of His Book and (enable) my tongue to convey it; and that I purify my intention for sake of Allaah and entrust myself to Him; and that He (The Blessed and Most High) makes my responses (to Bishr) swift, strengthen my resolve, embolden my heart, facilitate my heart with understanding of His Book, make my tongue eloquent (upon truth) and gladden my heart (with guidance and acceptance) by way of it, so that I am given discernment in guidance through facilitating me with the ability to carry out (righteous deeds and in attaining what I want to achieve); and that I seek His assistance and help….up until the end of his speech… and how he attended in the presence of Al-Ma’moon, and how his debate took place during which he hindered Bishr from responding (with clear proofs) in everything he was obligated to (give a clear proof, which he could not do); so he (Abdul Azeez) titled the Risaalah (i.e. the one based on the debate with Bishr) ‘Al-Haydah.’

The People of Bid’ah Are The Ones Who Start The Wars

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [may Allah preserve him] stated: Ahlul Ahwaa [The people who are driven by their vain desires], such as the Mutazilah, the khawaarij, the Rawaafid, and others, are the ones responsible for causing the wars and discord. Fitnah (turmoil) only arises from them and is a result of them. Who was responsible for the assassination of Uthmaan? Who was behind the murder of Ali? Who were the ones that ignited turmoil among the Muslims thereafter? It was none other than these individuals driven by their desires. Who misled Al-Mamoon and those rulers who came after him to persecute Ahlus Sunnah, and ultimately led to the beating and imprisonment of their Imam – Ahmad Bin Hanbal? It was none else other than Ahlul Ahwaa! Who initiated the imprisonment of Shaikh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah until he died in prison? It was none else other than Ahlul Ahwaa! It is our responsibility to exercise caution towards these people, as their fitnah ultimately results in the fragmentation of Muslim unity, rebellion against Muslim leaders, and splitting within the Muslim community, leading to the emergence of divergent groups and parties. This stands in stark contrast to the concept of a united Ummah.

Few Excerpts From Shaikh Rabee for the Sensible Person to Contemplate Upon Regarding Celebrating Milaadun Nabiy

The Shaikh (may Allaah preserve him) stated:

*If you do (or revive) a deed (i.e. a deed that is established in the Islamic legislation by way of proof) which was forgotten (or abandoned) by the people, then indeed you have started (or restarted) a good Sunnah for them.

*As for innovating something (i.e. religious beliefs and practices) in the religion which are not to be found in it, then this is bidah about which the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’Whoever innovates in this affair of ours that which is not from it will have it rejected.’’

Allaah (The Most High) said:

[أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاء شَرَعُوا لَهُم مِّنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَن بِهِ اللَّهُ -Or have they partners with Allah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed] [42:21]

*If this (Mawlid) was something good, the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and the Sahaabah would have preceeded us to it.

Indeed, the companions knew the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and they loved him more than us, but many of us (i.e. those who celebrate Mawlid) unfortunately do not know him (i.e. his authentic Sunnah and his ways) except by way of this (Mawlid). As for the Sahaabah, they (radiyallaahu-anhum) knew his every moment; they spent their wealth to aid Allaah’s (The Mighty and Majestic) religion and to raise Allaah’s Word (i.e. Laa ilaaha ilal-laah). They demonstrated their love for the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) through their belief in him, followed him, sacrificed their lives and their wealth to aid his religion.

*As for these ones (i.e. those heads of misguidance who call the people to celebrate the Mawlid), they say that they love the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and they initiate these Mawlids because it includes devouring the wealth of the people by way of falsehood, and they commit shirk, fictitious deeds and misguidance in these Mawlids (i.e. the practices of the extreme soofiyyah). Is this the religion of Allaah? Is the one who initiated this to be praised?

*Those who first initiated this Mawlid were the Baatiniyyoon-the enemies of Allaah and His Messenger, and enemies of the religion of Islaam. They brought this filthy innovation, which is now defended by a people who claim that they are from Ahlus Sunnah, whilst unfortunately they are from the people of misguidance.  [Abridged and slightly paraphrased…see

Du’aa Made by a Man- Against Himself- To Prove His Misguidance Led To Severe Consequences

Abu Moosaa Muhammad Ibnul Muthannaa (rahimahullaah) said:

We used to read to a blind Shaikh, so when the (innovated) speech about the Qur’aan being created occurred in Baghdad the Shaikh said: ”If the Qur’aan is not created, then may the Qur’aan be wiped off my heart (i.e. from my memory).” He (Abu Moosaa) said: When we heard this speech of his, we abandoned him and turned away from him.  After some time period we met him and said to him: ”O such and such, what did the Qur’aan do?” He said: ”Nothing of it remains in my chest (i.e. in my memory).”  We said: ”Not even قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ?” He said: ”Not even قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ  except when I hear it being recited by someone else.”

Keeping a distance from a Mubtadi even if he has knowledge of fiqh and hadeeth-[Shaikh Fawzaan(may Allaah preserve him)] clarifies

This questioner says:

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

If a student of knowledge utters innovation and calls to it, and he is one with Fiqh and (knowledge of) Hadeeth; does his speech of innovation necessitate an invalidation of his knowledge and his (knowledge) of hadeeth, and not to (benefit from) him unrestrictedly?

Answer:

Yes, he is not to be trusted; the one who is an Innovator is neither to be trusted nor his knowledge, nor (to have) a lackadaisical (stance) towards him. That is because if you (have) a lackadaisical (stance) towards him, the student will be influenced by his Shaikh-he will be influenced by his teacher. Therefore, it is obligatory to be distanced from the people of innovation, and the Salaf (pious predecessors) used to forbid (others) from sitting with the innovators, visiting and going to them; so that their evil is not spread to the one who sits with them and mixes with them.
