[1] Brief Dialogue with Some Non-Muslims on Some Factors Contributing to Muslim Identity Crisis

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “The Prophethood will remain amongst you for as long as Allah wills it to be. Then Allah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be the khilafah upon the Prophetic methodology. And it will last for as long as Allah wills it to last. Then Allah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be biting kingship, and it will remain for as long as Allah wills it to remain. Then Allah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be tyrannical (forceful) kingship and it will remain for as long as Allah wills it to remain. Then He will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be a khilafah upon the Prophetic methodology”. Then he (the Prophet) was silent.

This article is a brief comment on the assertion made by two individuals named Frederic C. Hof and Samuel J Hyde. To begin, Mr C. Hof stated: “A century after the end of the Ottoman Empire, no successor to Istanbul’s sultan-caliph has emerged”.

Response: Indeed, the presence of a khilafah, a Muslim empire or nation state that steadfastly adheres to the Qur’an and Sunnah as understood by the pious predecessors is a blessing that Allah bestows on whomsoever He pleases. A closer look at the rise and fall of the Ottomans reveals the elements that contributed to their success and their eventual decline, all by the Will of Allah. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon upon him, said: “Whoever contemplates the state the world will find that every rectification is due to Tawhid, singling out Allah in worship and obedience to His Messenger (Muhammad). And every evil in the world, trial, affliction, scarcity (in livelihood), being overpowered by an enemy and other than that is due to opposition to the Messenger and the call to other than (the way of) Allah and His Messenger. Whoever truly contemplates this and examines the state of affairs of the world- since its beginning and until the time Allah will take it away and those upon it, he will realise this regarding himself and others, in general and specific (circumstances). And there is no Might or Power except with Allah –The Most High, The Most Great”. [Bada’i Al-Fawaa’id 3/525-526] Read article by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah, may Allah preserve him: https://abukhadeejah.com/state-of-ummah-causes-of-weakness-means-of-rectification-ebook/

The acknowledgment that the Ottomans gradually experienced a decline in power due to their detachment from the Sunnah is well-documented in numerous historical texts. Nevertheless, this vulnerability was capitalised upon by those who have consistently sought to undermine the sound Islamic creed and governance, irrespective of its strength or frailty in various eras.

Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghani, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

Allah, The Most High, guided mankind through Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and through what he brought of clear manifest evidences and guidance – a guidance that could not be described by those who were proficient in giving descriptions and surpassed the knowledge of those with great perception. So, through this guidance, Allah [The Most High] opened the eyes of the blind ones, the ears of the deaf ones and the hearts of the heedless ones. Allah [The Most High] united them upon one religion- the religion of pure Islamic monotheism; Prophet Ibrahim’s [peace be upon him] religion of pure monotheism – after they had been in a state of complete disunity, enmity towards one another, destructive and corrupt creeds. Allah united their hearts and they became true brothers in Islam by way of this great blessing. And thereafter everything that was worshiped besides Allah- such as graves, trees, stones, graven images, idols etc- ceased to exist and all worship was carried out for Allah (alone).

The people followed the true Religion of Islamic monotheism, worshipped Allah alone and established worship sincerely for Allah, except those whom Allah willed that they were to remain as people of polytheism, hypocrisy and followers of the altered and distorted previous scriptures. The darkness of shirk (polytheism) was dispelled and the banner of Tawhid (pure Islamic Monotheism) was raised in the lands amongst the Arabs and non-Arabs. The Messenger of Allah returned to his Lord, whilst Islam was established and in authority-superseding all other ways of life and creeds. Then the rightly guided khulafaa of the Messenger [AbuBakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali] continued upon this path until the two powerful and great nations at the time- Rome and Persia- ended up in humiliation, degradation and in a state of fear after they had been in a state of security, and thus Caesar was restricted and besieged, and khosrau was subdued and destroyed.

So when the enemies of Islam saw that they were unable to do away with this religion, they implanted their disbelieving agents within Islam, who pretended to be Muslims in order to foment confusion, trials and tribulations, and spread Shirk (polytheism) by exaggerating the status of the pious people – exalting their graves through (beliefs and practices) that were not ordained by Allah. So, this Ummah was put to trial through the plots of the [atheist, heretic and hypocrite] Abdullah Bin Saba, who claimed Uloohiyyah for Ali Ibn Abee Talib [i.e. that Ali has the right to be worship]. Abdullaah Bin As-Sabah’s followers were known as the Saaba’iyyah, and later on they were known as the rawaafid (shiites), the ismaaliyyah (shittes), the nusayriyah (shiites) and other than them amongst the Baatiniyyah. They used to worship the graves and the dead, and built places of worship and domed (shaped) shrines upon these graves. So, by way of this they revived the practices of the Jews, the Christians and idol worshippers, and thus the practices of the worshippers of graves in this Muslim Ummah manifested itself in deeds of the rawaafid (shiites).

Furthermore, the books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, so many of those who attributed themselves to Islam busied themselves with these books, such as the likes of Al-Farabee, Ibn Sinaa Al-Hanafi, Naseer At- Toosee the advocator of disbelief and polytheism and other than them amongst those who played tricks with Islam, just as Paul played tricks with Christianity. They were influenced by the ideas of the Greek Philosophers- the creed of grave worship, so they became callers to grave worship through Greek Philosophy.

Thirdly: A people appeared among the Muslims manifesting asceticism. These people were more dangerous to the masses and more severe in misguidance. They were a people who appeared in the garb of the righteous, with tearful eyes smeared with kohl, long flowing beards, elevated turbans, carrying rosary beads and pretending to be calling to the sunnah of the leader of Humankind [Muhammad], whilst secretly practicing the disgraceful acts inherited from the false and vanished religions. And from their plots was that they used to mix manifest lies with the authentic explanations of the Qur’aan and the authentic narrations in order to corrupt the clear proofs of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. These deviant heretics were known as the holooliyyah, ittihaadiyyah Grave worshippers, such as the likes of al-Hallaaj (309ah), Ibn Al-Farid (632ah), Ibn Arabi (638ah), Ibn Sina (669ah) etc [1]

Every Muslim caliphate or empire, following the era of the righteous predecessors, experienced a spectrum of strength and decline, irrespective of its geographical location. This phenomenon was influenced by various internal challenges, including the actions of hypocrites, such as the Rafidah, and the diminishing commitment of Muslims to the practice of the religion as exemplified by the righteous predecessors. Each caliphate – after the period of the pious predecessors – faced its unique combination of strengths and weaknesses, shaped by numerous factors contributing to these dynamics. Similarly, the Ottoman Empire, like other Islamic empires after the time of the righteous predecessors, encountered periods of prosperity, internal strife, and external adversaries, ultimately leading to the loss of its territories, including Palestine.

Biased European ideologues, demagogues, and historians often overlook the positive contributions of the early Ottoman Empire when discussing its history. They frequently neglect to acknowledge that some of their own ancestors played significant roles in efforts to dismantle the Ottoman Empire, despite the internal weaknesses that also contributed to its decline. It is widely recognised that European imperialism exploited these vulnerabilities for over four centuries in regions that were once part of various Islamic states and empires following the Ottoman decline. This exploitation resulted not only in widespread looting and destruction but also in a cultural campaign by European powers. This culminated in the establishment of Zionist Palestine in 1948, a development that was unattainable while the Ottoman Empire retained some of its strength. Read here: https://salafidawahmanchester.com/2025/11/20/the-early-development-and-evolving-impact-of-christian-zionism-on-some-prominent-european-political-elites/

Mr. Hof cannot discuss this issue without acknowledging the involvement of his ancestors in exploiting this vulnerability, which enabled them to fragment, weaken, and dominate Muslim territories, regardless of whether they were under Ottoman control. Nevertheless, despite this fragmentation and decline lasting over 400 years, Allah has protected the religion and its followers to the present day across various Muslim nations and monarchs. Consequently, wherever Muslims live under a Muslim ruler, they are obligated to practice their religion and obey the ruler. The noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, ”Allah is pleased with three things for you: that you worship Him alone and not to associate anything with him in worship, that you all hold onto the rope of Allah and do not be divided, and that you advise the one placed in charge of authority over you”. [2]

The noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “I command you to have fear of Allah, and to listen and obey even if a slave is placed in charge of authority over you…”. Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him: “Even if a slave is placed in charge of authority over you”; this is from an angle of giving an example – meaning the ruler is not belittled regardless who he is, even if he is a slave. As long as he is a leader of the Muslims, his personality is not belittled; rather his position and rulership is given consideration. As long as he has authority and the oath of allegiance has been given to him, then indeed it is obligatory to obey him [in good], even if he has mistakes….” [3]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “It is obligatory to obey the leader even if he is not king. It is well known that the Muslim Ummah – since the early era – have had a Khaleefah and king, and there are leaders of countries. Therefore, if it is obligatory to obey a leader, then more so a king is to be obeyed”. [4]

Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “The rulers and the leaders of the believers are to be obeyed and listened to [i.e. in good], whether he is a pious person or a wicked sinner, as well as whoever takes over the khilafah and the people unite behind him and are pleased with him, and the one who overcome the people with the sword until he became the Khaleefah and is named leader of the believers”. [5]

A Muslim is bound to adhere to this obligation in all situations, irrespective of the varying periods of weakness and strength that may arise within a Muslim nation, as previously cited from the words of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: “The Prophethood will remain amongst you for as long as Allah wills it to be. Strength is a blessing from Allah, and it can only be attained through obedience to Allah and His Messenger, regardless of whether one is under an Islamic empire, a monarchy, or a nation-state. This matter is not contingent upon the analyses of Mr. Hof and his ilk. We once again refer to the words of Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him: “Whoever contemplates the state the world will find that every rectification is due to Tawheed, singling out Allaah in worship and obedience to His Messenger (Muhammad). [6]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Islam will not cease to continue and all praise and thanks be to Allah. The religion and the Qur’an will not cease to exist until that appointed time about which the Prophet has informed us that at the end of time the Qur’an will be taken away from the hearts of men and from the Masaahif (i.e. the copies of the Qur’an).  The Qur’an will not remain within the hands of the people (at that time), but this will be at the time of the destruction of the world (i.e. when the day of judgement is very close). (However), good will continue to exist while the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the Qiblah are present, even though there is one who is led away from it and strays; and even though there is one who deviates from it and deviated, as the saying goes: “Fitnah has its victims”. It takes away the one who goes with it; but the people of Iman will remain even if they are small in number. Even if there is one who goes along with the Fitnah, the one who goes astray and the one who comes along, the truth and its people will remain, and all praise and thanks be to Allah. The truth is present, as Allah said: [إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ – Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur’an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)].

A person is neither to lose hope nor despair. He should not to make the people lose hope of a return to goodness. He should not make the people lose hope that truth will prevail, and falsehood will be repelled. This is because Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, has made that promise and He does not fail to fulfil His promise. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, “The Religion is aided when put to the test; therefore, do not be amazed for this is the way the Most Merciful (Allah)”. [7]

This admonition by Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah protect him, serves as a poignant reminder that despite the gradual decline of the Ottoman Empire resulting from a lack of proper commitment to the Sunnah, Allah provided the Ummah with Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab, may Allah bestow mercy upon him, and his helpers, may Allah have mercy upon them, to revive foundations of pure Islamic monotheism and adherence to the Sunnah. Secondly, we will also address Samuel J. Hyde whose article is titled: “How Sovereign Jews Became the Target of an Islamic Identity Crisis.” To begin with, there is no inherent identity crisis; the identity defined by the Qur’an and Sunnah, as interpreted and practiced by the Prophet’s companions, is clear and unambiguous. The so-called identity crisis pertains only to those Muslims who have strayed from the path of the companions, as well as all the people of the Scripture who have deviated from the teachings of Prophets Musa and Isa, peace and blessings be upon them. Followers of these earlier Scriptures are united in their disbelief, as Jews reject Isa, whom they were instructed to follow, and Christians reject Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon both of them. In contrast, Muslims accept all Prophets and Messengers, peace and blessings be upon them. Within the Ummah of Muhammad, those who stray from or oppose the companions’ way are easily identifiable, just as those who remain faithful to it are. Unlike the other people of the Scripture, who collectively reject Muhammad and thus undermine their belief in Allah, the Ummah of Muhammad will never unite in misguidance. The Prophet said: “Verily, Allah will not let my Ummah agree upon misguidance”[8]

There is no inherent identity crisis in Islam; instead, such crises arise among those who have strayed from the beliefs, practices, and methodology of the companions, as well as the people of the Scripture who have deviated and substituted the religion of Prophets Musa and Isa, peace and blessings of Allah be upon them.

Samuel said: If the Jews of 1898—who were fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe and those who were living as second class citizens throughout the Arab world—could push Islam back, it signified an intolerable disaster of Islamic weakness. [end of quote]

Response: Samuel refers to Jews in a broad sense rather than pinpointing a specific group among them that took advantage of Muslim vulnerabilities. It’s important to note that this vulnerability is not exclusive to Muslims; followers of the Prophets have experienced periods of both strength and weakness throughout history. Additionally, the rise of Zionism did not solely contribute to Muslim decline; various significant events in Europe also played a crucial role in increasing Zionist activity in Palestine. Before delving into that, we should examine earlier occurrences in regions under Ottoman control, particularly regarding Sultan Abdul Hamid II and the Young Turks, and how Zionists leveraged their influence to facilitate the sale of Muslim territories. First, however, let’s explore the origins of Zionist initiatives in other global contexts.

“In 1897, the held a conference in Basel, Switzerland. This conference saw the participation of approximately three hundred dedicated Zionists, who represented fifty Jewish organisations; however, the identity of the individual who initiated these protocols remains unknown. The intent of these protocols was to provide guidance to the Zionists on how to exercise governance upon attaining power. They were uncovered in 1901 when a French woman encountered them during a meeting with a prominent leader of the Zionist movement at a Masonic lodge in Paris. This woman successfully acquired several documents and managed to escape with them. These documents eventually came into the possession of Alex Nikolaevich, a prominent figure in Eastern Russia during the Tsarist period, known for his vehement campaign against the Jewish population (he perceived as adversaries). Upon reviewing the documents, he recognised their significance for his nation and the broader global context. Consequently, he entrusted them to a friend, a Russian author named Sergei Nilus. Nilus examined the contents and understood their implications, subsequently translating them into Russian and providing an introduction that forecasted the collapse of Tsarist Russia due to anarchist communism, the nature of its authoritarian governance, and its role as a base for inciting turmoil—aiming to dismantle the Islamic Caliphate, establish the State of Israel in Palestine, and bring down monarchies across Europe.

In 1902, a book was published for the first time in the Russian language, produced in limited quantities. The Zionists reacted vehemently upon its release, initiating intense campaigns to discredit the book. Despite their efforts, the claims linking the book to them were accurate. In response, Tsarist Russia undertook a severe campaign against the Zionists, resulting in the deaths of ten thousand individuals in a single massacre. The book underwent a reprinting in 1905, which quickly sold out in an unusual and covert manner, as Zionist groups procured copies from the market and incinerated them. A subsequent edition was released in 1911, but, similar to the earlier instance, copies vanished. In 1917, another printing occurred, yet it was seized by the communists following their ascension to power in Russia and the overthrow of the tsarist regime. A copy of the 1905 Russian edition found its way to the British Museum in London, where it was stamped in 1906. This copy remained largely overlooked until the communist coup in Russia in 1916 prompted the “Morning Post” to request updates from its correspondent, Victor Madson, who then examined various Russian publications. He dedicated his efforts to translating the work into English, subsequently publishing it in that language. The book saw five printings, the most recent occurring in 1921, yet no publisher in either Britain or America was willing to take on the project. Despite the efforts of Zionists to suppress the book, it was published in various languages, such as German, French, Italian, and Polish. The English edition from 1921 served as the basis for its first translation into Arabic, which was released in 1951″. [9]

Thus, in evaluating the perceived weaknesses of Muslims in relation to the rise of Jews, it is essential to consider the broader context and the various factors involved. The Jewish migration during the period referenced by Samuel was not solely a result of their leaders’ actions or inactions. Instead, the emergence of Zionism and its strategic objectives played a significant role in shaping the events of that time. Therefore, attributing the Muslims’ inability to respond effectively only to the circumstances surrounding the Jews migration overlooks the fact that the Ummah was also grappling with the constraints of colonialism, which, interestingly, provided substantial advantages to the Zionists, as will be explored further in this article.

Samuel said: Hamas is the product of a deep and ongoing debate within the Muslim world, a debate that has raged for the last 150 years and dwarfs the magnitude of any of the discussions we find in Western academia today. This debate is not just political but a profound theological reckoning. It revolves around a critical question: Why has Islam become weak? This question became particularly pressing after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent rise of Western powers in the Middle East (Britain and France). [end of quote]

Response: Hamas cannot be viewed as a standalone entity in the context of distinguishing truth from falsehood, as the correct path is clearly outlined in the sacred texts of the Qur’an and the Sunnah, as interpreted and practiced by the Prophet’s companions, peace and blessings be upon him. Instead, Hamas represents a deviation from the Prophet’s creed and methodology in confronting Islam’s adversaries. The discussions surrounding political and theological issues do not stem from Islam itself; rather, they emerged following a departure from the ways of the righteous predecessors. The pressing question is not only why Muslims are divided in facing their enemies, but rather why they do not return to the Qur’an and the Sunnah to resolve their differences, as Allah has instructed them to do. Allah said:

O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and those in authority over you. And if you disagree among yourselves over anything then refer it back to Allāh and the Messenger if you truly believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is better (conduct) and (leads to) the most excellent outcome. [10]

Allah said:

And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers’ way (i.e. the companions). We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell – what an evil destination. [An-Nisaa 115]

Allah said:

And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them. [An-Nur 63]

Samuel said: For over a century, leading Islamic thinkers and theologians have examined their civilization’s history, grappling with the dramatic decline of a once-great empire. They contemplate how Islam—once the epicenter of scientific advancement and geopolitical power, home to the world’s largest astronomical observatory in the 16th century—could fall so far. They pondered how their empires, which had once expanded to the middle of France and halfway to Afghanistan within a century, had lost their dominance. The answer to that question produces the Muslim world of today. Arab nationalism, in its essence, is a direct answer to the inquiry, “What happened to us as a civilization?” At its core, Al-Qaeda represents another answer, proposing a path for the Muslim world to regain the power and agency that once defined its history four centuries ago. [end of quote]

Response: The upright scholars of Islam have meticulously delineated the roots of our current frailty, alongside the pathways to rejuvenation. The remedy does not lie in nationalism, nor in any other ideology, nor in factions that stray from the prophetic methodology. Instead, the solution rests solely in the actions the Ummah must undertake to reclaim its vigor, by the grace of Allah. A thorough examination of this document offers the reader a profound insight into this pivotal issue. https://abukhadeejah.com/state-of-ummah-causes-of-weakness-means-of-rectification-ebook/

Samuel said: Early Islam’s explosive rise was a historical marvel. Within a few decades, it conquered vast swathes of territory across continents. This success was not only surprising but also confirmed the truth of Muhammad’s Revelation in the eyes of its leaders. This divine grace, which Islam shares with Judaism and Christianity, rests on the idea that there is a God, a God of Justice, who oversees history. Therefore, history has an arc, a purpose, and an end goal—a trajectory. [end of quote]

Response: The expansion of Islam is entirely attributed to the mercy of Allah, and there is no question that Islam represents the ultimate truth. Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is the seal of the Prophets, as stated in the infallible Qur’an and authentic Sunnah. Victory belongs exclusively to Allah, who grants it to whomever He chooses in every age, while it is the servants of Allah who bring harm upon themselves through their deeds. The Prophet cautioned us about the dangers of weakness, its origins, and its repercussions in numerous reports, including his notable statement: “When you partake in usury, hold on to the tails of cattle, become satisfied with cultivation and abandon Jihād, Allah will send upon you humiliation and He will not remove it until you return back to your religion”. Read again on this link: https://abukhadeejah.com/weakness-in-the-ummah-jihad-of-evidence-and-speech-in-defense-of-islam/

Samuel said: The crucial divergence here is that Islam took a leap that Judaism did not. Muslims believed that being powerful in history meant being in sync with the divine plan and aligned with the divine trajectory. In other words, if they were successful in conquering a continent in 10 or 40 years, it signified their truth and closeness to God, and God’s favor was with them. [end of quote]

Response: Islam is not comparable to Judaism because, following the arrival of the seal of the Prophets, all previous scriptures and laws were rendered obsolete. Additionally, earlier texts have been altered and corrupted. The early Muslims did not follow Allah’s path blindly or hesitate in their commitment; they made a conscious decision to dedicate themselves. They trusted in Allah’s promise to the righteous, knowing that He fulfills His promises completely. Therefore, they committed fully to their cause, confident that Allah would uphold His end of the covenant, regardless of the uncertainties ahead. Allah said:

O you who believe, if you aid (the cause of) Allāh, He will aid you (against your enemy) and make your foothold firm (upon faith and upon the straight path and against your enemy). [11]

Allah said:

Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). [An-Nur 55]

The devout predecessors were not simply taking risks or making bold choices; they were obeying a divine directive to deliver the ultimate message, regardless of the repercussions, because they had unwavering faith in Allah. Any weakness observed cannot be blamed on Islam itself, as the religion remains strong, flawless, and unerring, with compelling evidence that is applicable across all times, places, and situations. Instead, the shortcomings arise from Muslims failing to adhere to Islamic teachings and looking for answers in alternative ideas. Total submission to Allah is essential for success, as evidenced throughout Islamic history. The believers were given victory despite their inferior numbers and weaponry. Samuel said: Now, imagine you are a Muslim leader in Cairo in 1890, watching the British take the city from the Ottomans without any resistance. You are not only asking, “What happened to us?” but also, “How could Islam, in its divine form, grow weaker than Europe?” Ultimately, you are questioning, “How did we lose God’s favor, and how do we regain His grace?” Here lie the beginnings of the ideas of Islamic renewal—what many today call Islamism. These are all responses to the question of how to restore the old piety of Islam that ensured geopolitical power through closeness to God. This is what Al-Qaeda represents, what the Muslim Brotherhood represents, and what Hamas represents—a chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood established in Gaza in 1987. Hamas doesn’t fly Palestinian flags or promote a nationalist agenda; it rejects nationalism, seeing it as a European construct imposed on Muslims to divide and weaken them. This is crucial because it explains why Israel is so significant to terror organizations and regimes like the Islamic Republic in Iran, which has spent untold billions on Israel’s destruction. [end of quote]

Response: A clear distinction must be made between Islam and Muslims when discussing the challenges faced by Muslims. The weakness observed is not a reflection of Islam itself, but rather a result of neglecting or compromising its teachings. Similar to the experiences of Bani Israel, who faced periods of strength when they followed their prophets and weakness when they strayed, Muslims have undergone similar cycles. The remedy is straightforward for those who listen to the final Messenger’s guidance on the issue. True revival cannot be achieved through innovative methodologies like those of the Kharijites, Al-Qaeda, the misguided Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, or nationalism. Instead, sound revival and strength can only be realised through the approach of the Prophet’s companions. Any alternative, regardless of its claims to represent Islam, is destined to fail. Additionally, revival is not found in the path of the Rafidah of Iran, which leads to Shirk and Bidah. [Footnote b] Thus, what the Zionists oppose is not authentic Islamic revival, despite their labels for various sects and groups; they are confronting deviant sects that stray from the Prophetic methodology.

As for the Ottomans, their rise and fall was clearly due to the extensive external and internal pressures they faced, alongside their gradual departure from the piety of their early leaders who spread the faith fearlessly. It is overly simplistic to claim that the Ottomans could not defend Egypt without considering the significant external and internal factors contributing to their decline. Colonialism was rampant, with many Muslim nations already suffering under the brutal onslaught of colonisers, compounded by the infiltration of outsiders who finally corrupted the Young Turks. The story of how the Zionists aimed to undermine Sultan Abdul Hamid II and the later corruption among the Young Turks is well known.

When the Zionists, in the late 1800s, advocated for the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, Sultan Abdül-Hamid II implemented various measures aimed at thwarting this initiative. Nevertheless, following the sultan’s deposition and the rise of the Young Turks to power, the movement gained traction and began to proliferate throughout the area. Also, it is important to acknowledge the significant support provided by the British Empire and other entities to this Zionist endeavour. Read below:

The Early Development and Evolving Impact of Christian Zionism on Some Prominent European Political Elites

The Development of Christian Zionism in America Since the Puritan Settlement

The aforementioned links present the names of some notable British politicians who supported the Zionist movement both from a theological and political perspective, influenced by the British Empire. Many contemporary historians have noted that as the Zionist efforts became more prominent, the British recognised the growing strength of this movement and proposed territories such as Uganda, Siberia, and Cyprus. However, these offers were declined, as the Zionists sought Palestine instead. Many Turkish historians assert that in 1871, prior to any significant actions by the Zionists, the Ottomans designated 80 percent of Palestine as state property. Subsequently, Sultan Abdul Hamid II implemented stricter measures to prevent Jewish settlement in Palestine. By 1883, he imposed restrictions on the acquisition of land in Palestine and opted to retain control over this strategically important territory.

He additionally forbade the acquisition of land by foreign Jews within the Ottoman Empire, including Palestine. It was asserted that the Ottoman Empire was not a resettlement area for individuals exiled from Europe. Prominent Zionists, including Theodor Herzl, who was at the forefront of the Zionist movement, sought a meeting with Sultan Abdul Hamid II. When this request was turned down, he conveyed his proposal to the sultan through his close associate, Polish Phillip Newlinsky, in May 1901. They proposed to settle the Ottoman Empire’s foreign debts and to offer support to the Sultan in Europe in return for the opening of Palestinian territories to Jewish settlement and the transfer of governance to the Jewish community. The sultan rejected the proposal, stating, “I will not part with anything, not even a fraction of this land, for this nation does not belong solely to me but to all Ottomans. My people acquired these territories through their sacrifices. We offer what we possess in the same manner as it was originally obtained.” Herzl reiterated his proposal the subsequent year, yet the response remained unchanged.

During that period, certain territories still under Ottoman rule were home to the largest Jewish population in the world, who enjoyed a degree of freedom. Thessaloniki, then part of the Ottoman Empire, was recognised as the largest Jewish city globally. In 1909, the Young Turks overthrew Sultan Abdülhamid II, subsequently exiling him to Thessaloniki, where he was confined in the residence of a Jewish banker named Allatini. The properties belonging to the sultan were nationalised, and the Young Turks permitted prominent Zionist figures to settle in Palestine. Among the Young Turks were numerous Freemasons and Sabbateans. Notably, Emmanuel Carasso, a Jewish banker and Freemason, was a close associate of Grand Vizier Talat Pasha and was part of the delegation that informed Sultan Abdl-Hamid II of his removal from power.

Thessaloniki’s deputy, Carasso, emerged as a prominent figure of his era and played a crucial role in facilitating Jewish migration to Palestine. The Young Turks repaid their obligations by assisting Carasso in amassing wealth and enabling him to engage in a black market for food during the Great War. In 1917, this group reached an agreement with British Foreign Minister Arthur Balfour. The subsequent Balfour Declaration signified the British Empire’s endorsement of the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestinian territories. Following World War II, the lands that had belonged to Sultan Abdülhamid and were appropriated by the Young Turks came under British control. This British occupation led to an increase in Jewish settlement in Palestine, allowing Jews to acquire land. Meanwhile, Arabs faced economic pressures that compelled them to sell their properties.

Sultan Abdul Hamid reportedly stated on September 22, 1913, “I relinquished my position as Khalifah due to the oppression and intimidation from the Young Turks. This faction pressured me to endorse the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, which I firmly opposed. They ultimately proposed a sum of 150 million British gold pieces, which I also declined, asserting: ‘I would never consent to your demands, even if you offered not just 150 million British gold, but all the gold in the world. I have dedicated over 30 years to serving the Muslim community and have not betrayed my ancestors.’ Following my definitive refusal, they proceeded with my dethronement and exiled me to Thessaloniki.” By 1947, the Jewish population in Palestine had surpassed half of the total population, and a considerable portion of the land was under their control. The subsequent move was towards independence, as certain Jewish groups compelled the British to withdraw from the region. A referendum resulted in the decision to establish a Jewish state, which was ratified by the United Nations in 1948.

Therefore, Samuel’s assertion regarding the weakened state of the Ottoman Empire, rather, he should have called it the remnants of the Ottoman Empire, which rendered it incapable of defending Egypt from British intervention, is insufficiently detailed. A more comprehensive discussion of the circumstances contributing to this decline is essential, particularly the treachery of the Young Turks and their exploitation by wealthy Zionists. This aspect, along with other factors that had already compromised the latter Ottoman Empire—such as issues of religious creed and the adoption of Sufism and other innovations—constitutes a significant recipe for vulnerability, defeat, and eventual catastrophe.

Samuel said: Muhammad Rashid Rida was a prominent Islamic scholar, reformer, and thinker in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He played a significant role in the intellectual and political discourse of his time, advocating for Islamic renewal and the establishment of Salafi Islam in the modern age. He also taught several important Palestinian leaders, such as Haj Amin al-Husseini and Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, for whom Hamas’s military brigades are named. Al-Qassam was a young cleric in the 1930s whose massacre of Jewish farmers sparked the Great Arab Revolt of 1936. [end of quote]

Response: The individuals in question have been analyzed, and their trajectory was not aligned with Salafism; instead, it was characterized by Ikhwanism. Read: Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, Muhammad Abduh, Rashid Rida, Hasan al-Banna: Modernism, Revolution and the Muslim Brotherhood: https://abukhadeejah.com/jamal-aldin-afghani-muhammad-abduh-rashid-rida-hasan-albanna-radicals-modernists/

Samuel said: Rida wrote an astonishing letter in a journal in 1898 called Al-Manar, one of the most influential journals in the Arab world at the time. In this letter, he addressed Palestinian Arabs and called them “complacent nothings.” It was not a polite letter; he was enraged with the Arabs of Palestine following the first Zionist Congress, whose minutes Rida followed very carefully. Initially, he was pro-Zionist, thinking that Zionists and Muslims could team up to expel the Christian empires from the Middle East. However, he later turned against Zionism when he realized it aimed to establish a Jewish nation-state, to turn Jews into a sovereign people rather than aid the birth of another Muslim state “from the river to the sea.”

Rida was concerned not with Palestinian nationalism—because such a movement did not yet exist—but with the theological implications of Jewish success. He wrote to the Arabs of Palestine, saying, “You are going to allow the weakest of all nations, the paupers of the earth, those expelled from every land in civilization, to push you back and become masters in your land.”

For Rida, the issue was not about rights or military occupation. As a Muslim theologian living under British rule, he found it inconvenient and theologically problematic but tolerable given the British Empire’s power. [end of quote]

Response: Whatever Rida wrote, regardless of some truth in it, would not have led to any success, as his approach did not align with the principles established by the righteous predecessors.

Samuel said: However, if the Jews of 1898—who were fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe, arriving in New York Harbor with nothing and those who were living as second class citizens throughout the Arab world—could push Islam back, it signified an intolerable disaster of Islamic weakness. This explains why groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis view the destruction of Israel as so crucial. They believe that Islam’s current weakness is due to its impiety and distance from God. They argue that by returning to God’s grace, Islam will regain its strength. Destroying Israel, which they see as a symbol of Islamic weakness, would be the first step in this process. The epiphenomenon of Israel’s presence, in more recent times, as an immovable actor who could not be manipulated only added to the necessity of its destruction.

When Westerners used to gaze upon Hamas and say things like, “Well, you know, they’re extremists, but they might moderate over time,” there was an implicit assumption that the group’s motivations were nothing more than raw, unexamined emotions driven by political grievances. This view was predicated on the belief that if one approached them with enough empathy, kindness, and economic benefits, they might somehow evolve into more moderate actors. But the reality is that all of this radicalism, not just found in Hamas but sitting at the heart of the Palestinian cause, is not a product of external circumstances or temporary emotions; it is a manifestation of a carefully considered, long-standing ideological framework that, for the sake of its own standing, cannot accept sovereign Jews and, as such, the existence of the State of Israel. That in its purest sense is the conflict. [end of quote]

Response: The persecution faced by Jews in 1898 is intricately linked to a series of events, including the Zionist plans discovered by Russians at the time. Conversely, many scholars of Islam have stated that the perceived weakness among Muslims—distinct from any inherent flaw in Islam—primarily stems from factors outlined in final revelation, which contributed to European domination. Thus, this weakness, exacerbated by colonialism, is largely a result of many Muslims straying from the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and failing to resolve their affairs through it, unlike the pious predecessors. Additionally, during this period, a significant development in Europe facilitated the Zionist agenda: the collaboration between Jewish and Christian Zionists. To analyse Muslim weakness without considering these underlying causes and the various stakeholders involved would leave us with an incomplete understanding of the historical context. The political and theological partnership between Jewish Zionism and influential Christian Zionists within the British Empire was pivotal, and relevant connections have been previously outlined.

It is important to clarify that the crisis at hand is not one of Islam itself, nor is there an inherent identity crisis within the religion. As we noted earlier, the real issue lies with those who have strayed from the teachings of the righteous predecessors. These individuals, whether intentionally or out of ignorance, fail to recognise the singular approach of these early scholars and pious predecessors. Consequently, the identity crisis affects only those who reject a return to the Sunnah, including groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, the Rafidah of Iran, Al Qaeda, and others. These factions either perpetuate weakness through their flawed methodologies or serve as instruments for Zionists and other adversaries of Islam, who aim to tarnish the religion’s image and undermine the morale of Muslims.

The downfall of any nation is in the hands of Allah alone and not in the hands of Hamas, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, the Muslim Brotherhood Sect or other deviated sects. The early Muslims, particularly the first three generations of Islam, did not aim to annihilate any community, instead, they spread the principles of justice inherent in Islam, adhering closely to the Prophet’s teachings. and remained resolute against those who sought to divert humanity from the path of Allah. It was this commitment to justice and unwavering dedication to pleasing Allah that brought them strength and success, emphasising the importance of worshiping Allah alone, following the Sunnah, and treating even adversaries with fairness. It is clear that the weakness observed among Muslims stems from a lack of piety, not from Islam itself. Ironically, some those who make such claims among the Rafidah and others embrace practices that reflect a departure from true faith. The presence of Shirk and Bidah within these groups poses the greatest obstacle to a return to strength. Read:

Thus, the core issue isn’t solely the presence of Zionists in Palestine, which has developed not just because of their strength, but as a result of various factors in Europe and the Muslim world, alongside the impact of Colonialism that hastened their arrival. This situation isn’t just about a single, unyielding force; it reflects the vulnerabilities of many Muslims who have strayed from the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, leading to the suffering of the Palestinian people. True victory over opponents cannot be achieved through mere slogans calling for the destruction of nations, races, or religious groups. Instead, it hinges on adhering to the principles of Islam as guided by the Messenger, rather than following misguided groups that claim revival while collaborating with those who undermine the core tenets of Tawhid, which is the very essence of Islam. How can one claim to build when the foundations are ignored? How can one aspire for honour and success while simultaneously eroding the very principles that support them? Listen here:

Furthermore, no matter the opinions that Westerners may have about Hamas, it is crucial to recognise that their approach to revival and resistance does not align with the Prophetic methodology. This holds true regardless of their political issues, the kindness shown to them, the economic support they receive, or their feelings towards Jewish independence. The core concern lies in their methodology, which, along with that of other innovative groups, contributes to the overall weakness of Muslims. Additionally, it is important to note that Hamas serves as a tool for the Israeli Right. Read:

Imam Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The latter part of this Muslim nation will not be rectified except through that which rectified its early part, as the people of knowledge and sound faith have stated. This is a statement of Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy upon him, – the well-known scholar of sound understanding and piety. Many other people of knowledge reported this statement during and after his era and they all agreed with it- that ‘’The latter part of this Muslim nation will not be rectified except by way of that which rectified its earlier part.” This means that the path followed by its earlier generations -the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His noble Messenger- is what will rectify its future generations until the Day of Judgement. The one who wishes to rectify an Islamic society, or any other society in this worldly life through other than the path and practical steps that rectified those who have preceded [i.e. the Prophet and his companions], then such a person is mistaken and has spoken untruth. There is no path [to rectification] other than the path [of the Messenger and his companions]. The only path of rectification and uprightness is the one that was followed by our Prophet and his noble companions, and then those who follow them exactly in righteousness till this era of ours. [12]

We ask Allah to guide us to everything that will rectify our religious and worldly affairs, protect us from deviation and enable us to follow the path that will return the Ummah to strength and victory, remove the oppression of the Palestinians and all other Muslims facing the persecution and brutality of the callous one among humankind Aameen.

[3] Mistakes, The Mistaken Ones and The Precise Responsibility of The People of Knowledge

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “If a man commits evil openly, it is obligatory to denounce him openly, and this is not tantamount to backbiting him.  [1]

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked: “When should advice be given in private or openly?”

Response: The one giving advice does what is best. If he sees that it is more beneficial in secret, he advises secretly; if he sees that it is more beneficial to do so openly, he does so; but if the sin is committed in secret, the advice can only be given in secret. If he knows about his brother that he sins in secret, he advises him in secret and does not expose him. But if the sin is committed openly, – seen by the people, for example, a person starts drinking alcohol in a gathering, then one must denounce it openly; or if a person started calling (others) to drink alcohol or to fornicate, whilst one is present, he should say, “O my brother! This is not permissible”. [2]

It was said to Imam Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy upon him: “The statement of some people or the stipulation of some of them is that it is more correct that advice must be given before refutations are printed- a copy must be sent to the one refuted so that it can be looked into. They say this is from the methodology of the pious predecessors”.

Response: This is not a condition, but if it is possible and it is hoped that affinity will be attained from this approach – in order not to announce the affair amongst the people, then this is undoubtedly a good thing; but as for making it a condition first and foremost, and secondly, making it a general condition, there is no wisdom in this at all. People, as you all know, are like mines of gold and silver (a), so whoever you know – about him – that he is with us on the path- upon the (sound) methodology and that he accepts advice, then you write to him without making his mistake known, and at least in your view this is good. But this is not a condition, and it would have been impossible (to implement fully) even if it were a condition. How would get his address and how would you be able to correspond with him? Also, will he send you a response or not? These are completely speculative affairs. This condition is very difficult to fulfil, and therefore the issue is not taken as a condition. [3]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked: “Our Shaikh, one of the affairs that have become circulated and have aroused an intense feeling among the Salafis, is that there are people who claim that advice is obligatory before warning. Is there a statement you can give in this matter?”

Response: I answered this question before – may Allaah bless you. We have been put to trial with these types of affairs, so you find a person spreading falsehoods, lies, and slander against others- both about individuals and in general; and if you give him advice or (respond with) criticism or something, he says, “Why did they not warn me, why did they not advise me, and why did they not explain to me”. (These statements of this person are) corrupt excuses. We seek from these people to repent to Allah and return to the truth with complete good manners and humility, and to leave such excuses. Assume that this one made a mistake and did not speak, and did not advise you, then (still) return to the truth and reprimand him thereafter. As for spreading (trouble) amongst the people and persisting in your falsehood and your mistakes, and saying, “They did not do and they did”, this is empty talk. It is obligated to a believer to return to Allah (in obedience, repentance, etc). You publish your mistakes in books, tapes, etc. If you hid your mistakes and committed them in the darkness of your house – (known only to) you and Allah, then this person discovers you, he would advise you – between you and him (only). As for disseminating your statements and (publicising) deeds in the world, then someone comes and publishes- meaning, replies to you (or rebuts you), there is nothing wrong with this -May Allah bless you. Leave these excuses (arise) from many of the people of falsehood who are rebellious in falsehood and stubbornness. [4]

[2] Mistakes, The Mistaken Ones and The Precise Responsibility of The People of Knowledge

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allamah Salih al Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

When punishment descends on the disobedient ones, it touches both the righteous and the wicked, except the one who rejects evil. Indeed he (the one who rejects evil) will be saved. As for the one who did not reject evil, he will be destroyed even if he is a righteous person. He will be destroyed along with those who are destroyed, just as what occurred regarding Ashaab As-Sabr (those who violated the Sabbath). Allah, Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections, did not mention anything concerning those who kept quiet (i.e. those who refrained from rejecting evil), rather He only mentioned those who forbade evil.

As for the second group, those who said:

 وَإِذۡ قَالَتۡ أُمَّةٌ۬ مِّنۡہُمۡ لِمَ تَعِظُونَ قَوۡمًا‌ۙ ٱللَّهُ مُهۡلِكُهُمۡ أَوۡ مُعَذِّبُہُمۡ عَذَابً۬ا شَدِيدً۬ا‌ۖ

Why do you preach to a people whom Allah is about to destroy or to punish with a severe torment? [Al-A’raf. 164)]

Allah kept quiet about them (i.e. those who made this statement), no information is given regarding whether they were either amongst the destroyed or those saved. What is apparent is that they were amongst the destroyed. Allah said:

Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Daawood and Eesaa, son of Maryam. That was because they disobeyed (Allaah and the Messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds. They used not to forbid one another from evil which they committed. Vile indeed was what they used to do. [Al-Ma’idah. 78-79]

After the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recited this statement of Allah, he said, “The reason being cursed was because they did not forbid one another from evil which they committed. So Allah cursed all of them”.

He said: “By no means, I swear by Allah, you must enjoin good and forbid evil, prevent the wrongdoer, bend him into conformity with what is right, and restrict him to what is right, or Allah will mingle your hearts together and curse you as He cursed them”. [Abu Dawud]

An Excerpt from “The Means To Safety For The Ummah”. page 5

[1] Mistakes, The Mistaken Ones and The Precise Responsibility of The People of Knowledge

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Know that leaving the correct path occurs in two ways. Firstly: that a man strays from the correct path intending nothing but good, so his error is not to be followed since it leads to destruction. Secondly, a man who deliberately opposes the truth and acts contrary to the pious ones who came before him, he is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil within the Ummah. It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, commented:

After the Shaikh [i.e. Imam Barbahaaree] described the correct path in his previous statement- the correct path that is obligated to a Muslim to follow in his Aqeedah and religion, he then mentioned that the one who leaves the correct path is one of two men:

The First Man: Is the one who leaves the (correct path) without the intention (to do so), rather he intended good but followed other than the path of good. Striving (alone) is not sufficient, and even if the person has a righteous intention and a good aim, then that has to be upon the correct path. Therefore, this (person) is considered mistaken and whoever agrees with him upon that and follows with him upon error will be destroyed; because this is a path of destruction even though the (person) did not intend leaving (the correct path); rather his quest was (to reach something) good. This is the state of many of those who initiate newly invented matters -from themselves – in the knowledge of Aqeedah (Creed). This is not permissible and they should not adhere to it. The person is not upon correctness. Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, said:

 وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ

And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path]. [6:153]

Therefore, we reject any path that exits us from the Straight Path even if the one who (calls) to it aims for good and has a good intention. We do not follow him upon that while he continues upon his error, eventually leading to destruction; because whoever abandons the correct path in his journey and takes a path of ruin will be destroyed.

As For The Second Person: It is the one who intends to leave (the correct path). He knows the truth and that what he embarks upon is falsehood, but he intends to leave the truth with the intention of misguiding the people. The intention of the first (person) is to bring about benefit for the people, but he did not follow the correct path. The second (person) intended to misguide the people and to turn them away from the correct path. So this one (i.e. the one who intends misguidance for the people) is a devil, because the devils take the people away from the Straight Path.

Surely I (Iblis) will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. [7:16]

He intends to turn them away from it [i.e. the straight path] and (direct them) towards the deviated paths. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave us an example when he drew a straight line and drew other lines on its sides, he then said about the straight line:

“This is the path of Allah” and he said about the other lines, “These are the other paths, and on each path is a devil calling to it”.

This is a clear example that is in agreement to what the Shaikh [i.e. Imam Barbahaaree] has mentioned here. So the one who takes the people away from the Straight Path (and direct them) to the innovated paths of the innovators is not one who intends good for them; rather he intends destruction for them. He is a devil, be it that he is a devil from amongst the Jinn or the people.

It is obligated to us to be more careful of this (second person) than the first one because this one [i.e. the intentionally deviated one] intends to misguide the people.

And regarding the statement of Imaam Barbahaaree: “He is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil”.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan commented:

He is misguided and misguiding others. He is a rebellious devil, a rebel intending to turn the people from the Straight Path.

And regarding the statement of Imam Barbahaaree:

“It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed”.

Al-Allaamah Salih Al-Fawzan commented:

It is not permissible to keep quiet about this one who leaves the truth intentionally; rather it is incumbent to unveil his affair and uncover his vileness until the people are warned about him. And it is not to be said that the people are free to hold views, freedom of speech and respecting the views of others, as say present with regards to (having) respect for the views of others. The affair is not about views; (rather) the affair is about Ittibaa [i.e. following the authentic proofs narrated from the Messenger accompanied with the understanding of the Salaf]. Allah has outlined a clear path for us and He told us to adhere to it, when He stated:

وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ

And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it. [6:153]

Therefore, any person comes to us and wants us to leave this straight path, then firstly we reject his statement. Secondly, we clarify and warn the people against him and we do not keep quiet about him, because if we keep quiet about him, the people will be deceived by him, especially if he is an eloquent person, (with) good speech, writing and is educated; for indeed the people will be deceived by him and will say:

“This one is competent, this one is from the thinkers” as is taking place today.

So, the affair is very dangerous, and regarding this is a reason to refute the one in opposition, as opposed to what those ones say:

“Abandon the refutations, leave the people, everyone has his own views and have respect for him”.

Through this respect for the views and freedom of speech, the Ummah will be destroyed. The Salaf did not keep quiet about the likes of these people; rather they exposed and refuted them due to their knowledge of their danger upon Ummah. We do not keep quiet about their evil; rather that which Allah has revealed must be clarified, otherwise, we will be from those who conceal the truth- those about whom Allah stated:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ

Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers. [2:159]

And the affair is not limited to the innovator, rather it is extended to the one who keeps quiet about him, for indeed rebuke and punishment is extended to him, because it is obligatory to clarify and made clear for the people…..up until Al-Allamah Salih stated: “So our intention is to clarify the truth. Our intention is not to (merely) disparage the people or to speak about the people. The intent is to clarify the truth and this is a trust entrusted upon the scholars. It is not permissible to keep quiet about these people. [1]

The Mistaken Wise Man

Yazid Bin Ameerah, who was one of the companions of Mu’adh Bin Jabal said: Whenever he (Mu’adh) sat in a meeting to give admonition, he would say: “Allah is a just arbiter; those who doubt would perish”. One day Mu’adh Bin Jabal said: In the times after you, there would be trials in which riches would be abundant. During these trials the Quran would be easy so much so that every believer, hypocrite, man, woman, young, grown up, slave and free man will learn it. Then a man might say: “What happened with the people that they do not follow me while I read the Quran? They are not going to follow me until I introduce a Bidah for them other than it”. So beware of that which is innovated (in religion), for whatever is innovated is misguidance. I warn you of the deviation of a wise person from right guidance, for sometimes Satan utters a statement of misguidance through the tongue of a wise person and sometimes a hypocrites may speak a word of truth. I said to Mu’adh: “I am at a loss to understand may Allah have mercy on you that a wise man sometimes may utter a statement of misguidance and a hypocrite may utter a statement of truth”. He said, “Certainly, avoid the speech that emanates from a wise person that is known to be false and about which it is said, “What is this?!” And it does not warrant that you abandon him, for it is possible that he may withdraw (from these things that are well known to be false). Adhere to the truth when you hear it, for truth has light.

The speech of the wise person that is considered to be false

It is the ambiguous speech that makes one say: “What does he intend by this statement?!” He is known for good and beautiful speech, but he may err and slip, or shaytan misleads him to utter bad understanding. Shaytan may misguide a person until he utters misguidance and a false statement despite the fact that he is known for good, beautiful and fine speech. [2]

Imam Sufyan Ibn Uyayna, may Allah have mercy upon him, used to say, “Indeed, the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is the greatest criterion (i.e. amongst mankind and Jinn) and all matters are presented to him (i.e. for judgement) based on his manners, path and guidance; so whatever is in agreement with this is truth, and whatever is in opposition is falsehood”. Responding to the Appeal For ‘Good Suspicion’ Regarding Staunch, Well-Known and Wilful Supporters of Mubtadi’ah or Evildoers on the Basis That They Are Muslims

Amir Al-Mumineen Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

People were (sometimes) judged by the revealing of a divine Inspiration during the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, but now there is no longer anymore [new revelation]. Now we judge you by the deeds you practice publicly, so we will trust and favour the one who does good deeds in front of us, and we will not call him to account about what he is really doing in secret, for Allah will judge him for that; but we will not trust or believe the one who presents to us with an evil deed even if he claims that his intentions were good. [Al-Bukhari 2641]

Imam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “Whoever manifests good, it will be accepted from him and a good suspicion is held about him. And if he manifests evil, it will held against him and an evil suspicion is held about him”. [1]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khalee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Destructive Good Suspicion is to have a good suspicion of the people of falsehood whether they are disbelievers, innovators or evil (open) sinners. And that which led the disbelievers to belie the Messengers, (harbouring) a severe disbelief in them and their message was due to their evil suspicion towards the people of truth (i.e. the Prophets and their true followers), and having a good suspicion of their forefathers and their religions of falsehood and disbelief. Ahlul Bidah such as the Rawaafid, the khawaarij, the soofiyyah, the murji’ah, the qadariyyah and the people of Tahazzub Al-Baatil [false partisanship] are destroyed by good suspicion towards their shuyukh and figureheads, and their corrupt creeds. On the other hand, they are destroyed by their evil suspicions towards the truth and its people. Abul Hasan Al-Maribee and his followers have a share of both this destructive good suspicion and destructive evil suspicion. [2]

“Teach People The Fundamentals of Islam, And Do Not Busy Them With Knowing The Mistakes of This or That One!”

The reply to the one who utters this statement is as follows:

Hudhaifah Bin al Yaman, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

People used to ask Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about the good times, but I used to ask him about bad times fearing lest they overtake me. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! We were in a state of pre-Islamic ignorance and evil, and then Allah brought us this good [time through Islam], is there any evil time after this good one?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ I asked, ‘Will there be a good time again after that evil?’ He said, ‘Yes, but therein will be a hidden evil.’ I asked, ‘What will be the evil hidden therein?’ He said, ‘[That time will witness the rise of] the people who will follow ways other than mine and seek guidance other than mine. You will know [their] good points as well as [their] bad points.’ I asked, ‘Will there be an evil time after this good one?’ He said, ‘Yes. [A time will come] when there will be people standing and inviting at the gates of Hell. Whosoever responds to their call they will throw them into the fire.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Describe them for us.’ He said, ‘They will be a people having the same complexion as ours and speaking our language.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! What do you suggest if I happen to live in that time?’ He said, ‘You should stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader.’ I said, ‘If they have no [such thing as the] main body and have no leader?’ He said, ‘Separate yourself from all these factions, though you may have to eat the roots of trees [in a jungle] until death comes to you and you are in this state.’’’ [Bukhari and Muslim…. The wording of the above is that of Imam Muslim]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah protect him, said:

They used to ask him, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about the good related to righteous actions, sound Islamic creed, and dealings, but Hudhaifah used to ask him about the evil times fearing lest they overcome him. Therefore, this is evidence that it is not enough to only learn about good; rather one must know about evil to avoid it. If you do not know about evil, you will come close to falling into it, as the poet said, “I acquaint myself with the evil, not for the sake of evil, but to be safeguarded from it. The one who does not know (the distinction between) evil and good will fall into evil”.

A person must learn about the truth- its proofs and evidences. He must learn and know what falsehood is and the doubts associated with it, so that he can be saved from falsehood and warn people against it. How can he avoid and warn people against it if he is unaware of it? With regards to this, the Qur’an has clarified truth and falsehood- clarified Iman and Kufr, Tawheed and Shirk, and Halaal and Haraam. It has not only clarified Tawheed, Halaal, and truth; rather it clarified that which is in opposition to them so that the Muslims can avoid them. Likewise, the Prophet – in his Sunnah- clarified good and evil, truth and falsehood in all affairs of the religion. The scholars clarified – in their written works- what Tawheed, Shirk, disbelief, and hypocrisy are. They have clarified the belief of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah and the beliefs of the deviated sects, such as the Jahmiyyah, the Mutazilah, the Ashaa-irah…..and others.

They have clarified the correct and forbidden (deeds) in mutual dealings; clarified the correct (Islamic) marriage, the false and corrupt marriage, and the women forbidden (for one to marry); clarified the (good manners legislated in the Shari’ah) and the evil manners that are in opposition to it. All of this gives the Muslim an insight into his affairs, so that he knows the truth by its evidences, knows what falsehood is and the doubts associated with it so that he can avoid falsehood and tell the people to avoid it. This is why you find in the books of belief: clarification of the belief in Tawheed and the belief of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah, clarification of the beliefs (that are tantamount) to misguidance, the doubts associated with it and refutation against it, so that the Muslim is not misled by beliefs (that are tantamount to) deviation, false beliefs and deviated schools of thought; and so that the Muslims can be upon a correct understanding with regards to the affairs of their religion and that which is in opposition to it.

Some of the people at present- the majority of them ignorant and amongst them, misguided ones- say, “Do not learn about the false beliefs; suffice yourselves with learning the correct belief only and do not involve yourself in seeking to know the beliefs of the people of misguidance and the refutations against their doubts. Leave this and teach the children of the Muslims the correct belief only. Do not inform them about the statements that are in opposition (to the truth), the doubts and refutation against them”. This one (i.e. the one who makes these statements) is either an ignoramus who knows nothing about knowledge or he is one of those motivated by personal desires- those who want to spread the false schools of thought and their doubts; rather it may be that they say, “It is sufficient for a person to say, ‘I am a Muslim, I am a believer….. a general Islaam suffices, do not say, Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa-ah, (do not say), ‘the people of misguidance, schism and differing, do not say this, because it will cause division between the Muslims’”.

These (statements are tantamount to) misguidance because Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] has clarified the truth in opposition to falsehood, guidance in opposition to misguidance, and Tawheed in opposition to shirk. Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] has clarified all the affairs of the Religion- a detailed clarification of the affairs related to worship, mutual dealings, and manners. Therefore, this must be clarified so that it is made clear to the people, [and in order] that they can be upon clarity, and so that the true Muslim is distinguished from the so-called Muslim and no deviation and forgery enter into Islam. We must make a distinction between this and that one, so that truth is not confounded with falsehood, and [in order] to distinguish between truth and falsehood, and [between] good and wickedness. We do not suffice ourselves with a general Islam because this is misleading, and it is deception. We warn against this propaganda. The truth must be clarified and distinguished from falsehood, and guidance must be distinguished from misguidance. Hudhaifah used to ask the Prophet about the evil and did not suffice himself by only asking the Prophet about the good. The Prophet affirmed that for him and did not say to him, “Suffice yourself with knowing what good is” rather he affirmed and clarified – for him- the evil that was to occur, so that he may beware and warn others. This is the Sunnah, the path of the Qur’an and that of the Messenger. [1]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Madkhali, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked:  “What do you say about an individual who advises people not to listen to refutations, and when asked why he took this stance, he answered, ‘The person who asked me about this was a common person, and he is unable to recite the Quran properly’. What is your comment on this? May Allah bless you”.

Answer: If he is a layman, he must be taught the Islamic creed and warned against ahlul bidah. Because the majority of ordinary people have become supporters of the people of bidah these days, it is necessary to warn them against (the people of bidah). Say to him, “So and so is on such and such bidah, and you will be harmed if you listen to him”. This is done so that they will not read (his books), listen to his audio tapes, and will be cautious of his statements. This layman needs someone to caution him and remind him of the principle, “This knowledge is religion so look at whom you take your religion from”. During these times, the common people are targeted by the people of bidah, who will tell you, “Do not let them read the books of refutations”. No, No. This will expose them to destruction”. [2]

The Shaikh, may Allah have mercy upon him, was also asked: “Is it permitted for us as students of knowledge to be silent about the Mubtadi’ah and to nurture the youth and students on the Salafi path without mentioning the names of the Mubtadi’ah?”

Answer: By Allah, if necessary, the Mubtadi’ah are to be mentioned by their characteristics as well as their names. If so and so has put himself forward for leadership, leading this Ummah and the youth to falsehood, he is to be mentioned by name. If there is a necessity, he must be mentioned by name. In this regard, one of the Salafis in Egypt used to teach, and he would just mention generalities (general descriptions without mentioning names), and the people did not understand these generalities. Following that, he began to openly mention the names of the groups and individuals, so they said, “O Shaykh! Why did you not teach us like this in the beginning?” He said, “I delivered many lessons to you, and I would say this and that (i.e. general descriptions without names)”. They said, “By Allah! We did not understand”. [3]

Caution in Fatwa and the Levels of Scholars of Ijtihad

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abdur-Rahman Bin Abee Layla, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

I have met a hundred and twenty companions of the Messenger, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, in this Masjid and not a single one of them would be asked about a hadith, except he wished that his brother would suffice him in (answering). Then the matter was assigned to a people who claimed knowledge at present. They give answers in matters which if presented to Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, he would have gathered the (Sahabah of) Badr to consult them. (1)

Yahyah Ibn Sa’eed, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

I heard Al-Qasim Ibn Muhammad, may Allah have mercy upon him, say: “A person lives his (whole) life being ignorant is better for him than giving Fatawa without knowledge”. (2)

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

We do not say that there are people of ijtihad amongst ahlul bidah because they are followers of desires, and Allah and His Messenger have testified to this. The misguided innovator stirs up discord and errs, and then says to you, “This is Ijtihad”. When Hikmatiyar and the misguided parties (in Afghanistan) murdered Shaikh Jameel Ur-Rahman, they said: “This is ijtihad”. They [ahlul bidah] do not fall into an affair of misguidance or a calamity except that they say, “This is Ijtihad”. This is diluting Islam, falsehood, misguidance, bidah and confounding truth with falsehood when the mistakes of the (true and qualified scholars of Ijtihad)- for which they are rewarded- are placed at the same level with Bidah about which the Messenger said leads to the hell fire. (3)

Levels of The Scholars of Ijtihad

Caution Against The Path to False Views – By Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him

النوع الخامس : ما ذكره أبو عمر بن عبد البر عن جمهور أهل العلم أن الرأي المذموم في هذه الآثار عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وعن أصحابه والتابعين رضي الله عنهم أنه القول في أحكام شرائع الدين بالاستحسان والظنون ، والاشتغال بحفظ المعضلات والأغلوطات ورد الفروع بعضها على بعض قياسا ، دون ردها على أصولها والنظر في عللها واعتبارها ، فاستعمل فيها الرأي قبل أن ينزل ، وفرعت وشققت قبل أن تقع ، وتكلم فيها قبل أن تكون بالرأي المضارع للظن ، قالوا : وفي الاشتغال بهذا والاستغراق فيه تعطيل السنن ، والبعث على جهلها ، وترك الوقوف على ما يلزم الوقوف عليه منها ومن كتاب الله عز وجل ومعانيه ، احتجوا على ما ذهبوا إليه بأشياء ، ثم ذكر من طريق أسد بن موسى ثنا شريك عن ليث عن طاوس عن ابن عمر قال : لا تسألوا عما لم يكن ; فإني سمعت عمر يلعن من يسأل عما لم يكن ، ثم ذكر من طريق أبي داود ثنا إبراهيم بن موسى الرازي ثنا عيسى بن يونس عن الأوزاعي عن عبد الله بن سعد عن الصنابحي عن معاوية { أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : نهى عن الأغلوطات }

“The end of history” claim shattered

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie. [Al-An’am 116]

Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, said:

إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ

They follow but presumption and what their souls desire, though there has certainly come to them guidance from their Lord. [An-Najm 23]

Allah, The Most High, said:

إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا

They follow but presumption. And verily, presumption does not avail anything against the truth. [An-Najm 28]

Allah, The Exalted, said:

وَمَا يَتَّبِعُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ إِلَّا ظَنًّا إِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ

And most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Certainly, conjecture can be of no avail against the truth. Surely, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.[Yunus 36]

Through His immense mercy, Allah rescued us from the ideologies propagated by philosophers, including those regarded as political or social scientists, which we pursued during our higher education before being guided to the authentic Sunnah. A notable political philosopher whose ideas significantly influenced our misguided perceptions of global events was Francis Fukuyama. In 1989, he claimed that the Western democratic and capitalist model had achieved a definitive triumph, suggesting that while various events would continue to unfold, the ideological struggle had concluded with the ascendance of a particular contemporary liberal political and economic model as the singular and superior choice for humanity’s future. This notion, which can be characterised as one of Mr. Fukuyama’s misconceptions, was encountered during our academic journey in the mid to late 1990s. At that time, it shaped our worldview and fueled our aspirations to engage in politics. However, Allah guided us to the Sunnah and distanced us from speculations of these people. Therefore, it is essential for those who take pride in their children pursuing studies in social or political sciences to exercise extreme caution, as the vast majority of those in authority within these fields reject the infallible guidance provided by the Prophets and Messengers of Allah, establishing principles that lead humanity away from the path ordained by the Creator. Allah, the Most High, stated:

فَلَمَّا جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَرِحُوا بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

Then when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were glad (and proud) with that which they had of the knowledge (of worldly things): And that at which they used to mock, surrounded them (i.e. the punishment). [Ghafir 83]

Verily, those who dispute about the Signs of Allah, without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their breasts except pride [to accept you (Muhammad) as a Messenger of Allah and to obey you]. They will never have it (i.e. Prophethood which Allah has bestowed upon you). So seek refuge in Allah (O Muhammad from the arrogant ones). Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [Ghafir 56]

Those before them indeed plotted, but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them, and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them and will say: “Where are My (so called) ‘partners’ concerning whom you used to disagree and dispute (with the believers, by defying and disobeying Allah)?” Those who have been given the knowledge (about the Torment of Allah for the disbelievers) will say: “Verily! Disgrace this Day and misery are upon the disbelievers. [An-Nahl. 26-27]

They plotted against their Messengers, employed various tricks in order to reject that which the messengers brought and established gigantic safeguards for their plots.

But Allah struck at the foundation of their building]– Meaning, an affair came to them from its basis and foundation.

And then the roof fell down upon them, from above them.

Meaning, so what they built became a punishment for them.

And the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive.

Meaning, because they thought that such a building will benefit and protect them from punishment, but their punishment occurred from that which they built and established. This is one the best of parables regarding how Allah nullifies the plots of his enemies, for indeed they pondered and reflected on that which the Messengers brought when they belied them, concocted principles and rules based on falsehood, referred back to them to reject that which the Messengers came with, employed tricks to bring about discomfort to the Messengers, and to inflict harm on them and their followers, but their plot became a source of evil against them, so their plan became their destruction, because their plot was evil as Allah said:

وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ

But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. [Fatir. 43]

This is in this worldly life and the punishment in the afterlife would be more disgraceful, and due to this Allah said: [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them]. [1]

The claim that the world has unanimously embraced a particular contemporary liberal political and economic model as the singular and superior choice for humanity’s future is a rejection of the undeniable truths found within the sacred texts of the final divine revelation. These texts speak of the return of the methodology of the Prophets, peace and blessings be upon them, alongside the rulership of Prophet Isa, peace be upon him.

In that era, justice will once again reign supreme, guided by the principles of the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Prophethood will remain amongst you for as long as Allah wills it to be. Then Allah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be the khilaafah upon the Prophetic methodology. And it will last for as long as Allaah wills it to last. Then Allaah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be biting kingship, and it will remain for as long as Allaah wills it to remain. Then Allaah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be tyrannical (forceful) kingship and it will remain for as long as Allaah wills it to remain. Then He will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be a khilafah upon the Prophetic methodology”. Then he (the Prophet) was silent.  [Footnote a]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“By Him in Whose hand is my life, the son of Mary, peace be upon him, will soon descend among you as a just judge. He will break crosses, kill swine and abolish Jizya and the wealth will pour forth to such an extent that no one will accept it”. [Sahih Muslim 155]

We must express our profound gratitude to Allah for guiding us away from the conjectures of the philosophers. Indeed, The political power across the globe rests firmly and solely within the divine will of Allah, as confirmed by the infallible revelation.

Allah’s Messenger and what has been revealed to him are the authorities one must study in order to understand the subject of trials and tribulations before the end of time. As a result, one cannot return to the following matters: the narrations of the people of the Scripture, opinions and dreams, weak and false narrations, analogy, and political, economic, or socialist analysis. That is because the narrations about the trials and tribulations, the signs of the Hour, and the strife that will occur are from the (affairs) of the Religion, and the Religion is Tawqeefee (i.e. its source can only be established from the divine texts of the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah). So, whatever is reported from the Prophet with authentic chains of transmission about (upcoming events) is necessary for a Muslim to believe, whether it appeals to the intellect or not, and this is the reality of one’s testimony that Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger.

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ

Nor does he (Muhammad) speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. [An-Najm. 3]

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُو

And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)].[Al-Hashr. 7]

Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

One day while we were sitting with Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, there appeared before us a man whose clothes were exceedingly white and whose hair was exceedingly black; no signs of journeying were to be seen on him and none of us knew him. He walked up and sat down by the prophet. Resting his knees against his and placing the palms of his hands on his thighs, he said: “O Muhammad, tell me about Islam”. The messenger of Allah said: “Islam is to testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, to perform the prayers, to pay the zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to make the pilgrimage to the House if you are able to do so.” He said: “You have spoken rightly’’ And we were amazed at him asking him and saying that he had spoken rightly. He said: “Then tell me about Iman.” He said: ”It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in divine destiny, both the good and the evil thereof.” He said: “You have spoken rightly”. He said: “Then tell me about Ihsan.” He said: “It is to worship Allah as though you are seeing Him, and while you see Him not yet truly He sees you”. He said: “Then tell me about the Hour”. He said: “The one questioned about it knows no better than the questioner.” He said: “Then tell me about its signs.” He said: “That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and that you will see the barefooted, naked, destitute herdsman competing in constructing lofty buildings.” Then he took himself off and I stayed for a time. Then he said: “O Umar, do you know who the questioner was?” I said: “Allah and His messenger know best”. He said: “He was Gibreel (Gabriel), who came to you to teach you your religion”. [Reported by Muslim. Kitaab al-Iman. Chapter: Iman, Islam and Ihsan. Hadeeth Number: 8]

The testimony in this hadith is the statement of the Prophet, “He was Gibreel, who came to you to teach you your religion”. Therefore, the principle in the preceding hadeeth is that the Prophet asked a question concerning the Hour and its circumstances, and he established that it is something contained in religion. The trials and tribulations, circumstances, and strife associated with the (portents) of the Hour are from the religion, and it is not for anybody to speak about it based on their own (opinions, views, analysis, interpretations, etc.). [2]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him,  reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“The Hour will not be established till two big groups fight each other whereupon there will be a great number of casualties on both sides and they will be following one and the same path, till about thirty Dajjals (liars) appear and each one of them will claim that he is Allah’s Messenger, till religious knowledge is taken away (by the death of Religious scholars), earthquakes will increase in number; time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, Al-Harj, (i.e., killing) will increase, till wealth will be in abundance – so abundant that a wealthy person will worry lest nobody should accept his Zakat, and whenever he will present it to someone, that person (to whom it will be offered) will say, ‘I am not in need of it, till the people compete with one another in constructing high buildings, till a man when passing by a grave of someone will say, ‘Would that I were in his place’ and till the sun rises from the West. So when the sun will rise and the people will see it (rising from the West) they will all believe (accept Islam) but that will be the time when: (as Allah said):

لاَ يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ، أَوْ كَسَبَتْ فِي إِيمَانِهَا خَيْرًا

No good will it do to a person to believe then, if he believed not before, nor earned good (by performing deeds of righteousness) through his Faith]. And the Hour will be established while two men spreading a garment in front of them but they will not be able to sell it, nor fold it up, and Hour will be established when a man has milked his she-camel and has taken away the milk but he will not be able to drink it, and Hour will be established before a man repairing a tank (for his livestock) is able to water (his animals) in it, and Hour will be established when a person has raised a morsel (of food) to his mouth but will not be able to eat it.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Hadeeth Number 7121]

Abu Zaid -Amr Bin Akhtab, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, led us in the dawn prayer and then mounted the pulpit and addressed us until it was (time for the) noon prayer. He then came down the pulpit and observed prayer and then again mounted the pulpit and again addressed us until it was time for the ‘Asr prayer. He then again came down and observed the prayer and again mounted the pulpit and addressed us until the sun was set and he informed (us about) everything (pertaining to turmoil) that lay hidden in the past and what lies in (the womb) of) the future and the most learned amongst us is one who remembers them well. [ Saheeh Muslim 2892]

Imam Muslim said: Chapter: The Conquest Of Constantinople, The Emergence Of The Dajjal And The Descent Of ‘Isa Bin Maryam [peace be upon him]: Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] reported that Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: The Last Hour would not come until the Romans would land at al-A’maq or in Dabiq. An army consisting of the best (soldiers) of the people of the earth at that time will come from Medina (to counteract them). When they will arrange themselves in ranks, the Romans would say: Do not stand between us and those (Muslims) who took prisoners from amongst us. Let us fight with them; and the Muslims would say: Nay, by Allah, we would never get aside from you and from our brethren that you may fight them. They will then fight and a third (part) of the army would run away, whom Allah will never forgive. A third (part of the army) which would be constituted of excellent martyrs in Allah’s eye, would be killed and the third who would never be put to trial would win and they would be conquerors of Constantinople. And as they would be busy distributing the spoils of war (amongst themselves) after hanging their swords by the olive trees, Satan would cry: The Dajjal has taken your place among your family. They would then come out, but it would be of no avail. And when they would come to Syria, he would come out while they would be still preparing themselves for battle drawing up the ranks. Certainly, the time of prayer shall come, and then Jesus (peace be upon him) son of Mary would descend and would lead them. When the enemy of Allah would see him, it would (disappear) just as the salt dissolves itself in water, and if he (Jesus) were not to confront them at all, even then it would dissolve completely, but Allah would kill them by his hand and he would show them their blood on his lance (the lance of Jesus Christ). [Saheeh Muslim. 2897]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“By Allah in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will shortly descend amongst you people (Muslims) as a just ruler and will break the Cross and kill the pig and abolish the Jizya (a tax taken from the non-Muslims, who are in the protection, of the Muslim government). Then there will be an abundance of money and nobody will accept charitable gifts”. [Sahih Al-Bukhari 2222]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“What would you do when the son of Mary would descend amongst you and would lead you as one amongst you? Ibn Abi Dhi’b on the authority of Abu Huraira narrated: Your leader amongst you. Ibn Abi Dhi’b said: Do you know what the words:” He would lead as one amongst you” mean? I said: Explain these to me. He said: He would lead you according to the Book of your: Lord (hallowed be He and most exalted) and the Sunnah of your Messenger”. [Saheeh Muslim 155]

Hudhaifah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stood before us one day and he did not leave anything unsaid (that he had to say) at that very spot which would happen (in the shape of turmoil) up to the Last Hour. Those who had to remember them preserved them in their minds and those who could not remember them forgot them. My friends knew them and there are certain things that slip out of my mind, but I recapitulate them when anyone makes a mention of them just as a person is lost from one’s mind but is recalled to him upon seeing his face. [Saheeh Muslim 2891]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

The Last Hour would not come before the Euphrates uncovers a mountain of gold, for which people would fight. Ninety-nine out of each one hundred would die but every man amongst them would say that perhaps he would be the one who would be saved (and thus possess this gold). [Saheeh Muslim 2894]

The Beast:

Allah said:

And when the Word (of torment) is fulfilled against them, We shall bring out from the earth a beast to them, which will speak to them because mankind believed not with certainty in Our Ayat (Verses of the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad).

Imam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] commented: Meaning, when the time comes for the warning, which Allah has decided; [أَخۡرَجۡنَا لَهُمۡ دَآبَّةً۬ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ – We shall bring out from the earth a beast to them] or one of the earth’s beasts, rather than the heavens. This beast [تُكَلِّمُهُمۡ – will speak to them]; Meaning, it would speak to the people about how they did not believe with certainty in Our (i.e. Allah’s) signs due to a lack of knowledge and certainty in Allah’s signs. So Allah will make this beast appear as one of His amazing signs to manifest to the people what they doubted. This beast is the well-known beast that will appear at the end of time, and it will be one of the (major) signs indicating the approach of the Day of Judgement, as mentioned in many Prophetic narrations. [3]

Abu Umamah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

The beast will emerge and strike the people on their noses, then their numbers will increase among you until a man will buy a camel and they will say, ‘Who did you buy it from?’ and he will say, ‘I bought it from one of those with a mark on their noses”. [Reported by Imam Ahmad 22362 and declared authentic by Imaam Al Albaanee in As-Sisilah As-Saheehah. Number 322]

Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“The Hour will not occur until ‘Allah, Allah’ is not said on earth”. [Saheeh Muslim 148]

Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] said that Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “When three things appear, faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed or has derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the Dajjal, and the beast of the earth”. [Saheeh Muslim. Number 158]

Shaikh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] as follows:

In the Qur’an and authentic Prophetic reports, there are numerous reports regarding that which will take place in the worldly life and the Hereafter, and the events that occurred perfectly after the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] spoke about them many years prior to their occurrence, such as his statement: ‘The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Turks; people with small eyes, red faces, and flat noses. Their faces will look like shields coated with leather. The Hour will not be established till you fight with people whose shoes are made of hair. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Number 2928]

Those amongst the Muslims – who saw and fought those Turks when their king Genghis Khan appeared, his children and grandchildren, such as Hulagu Khan and other than him amongst the disbelieving kings- could not describe them better than how the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] described them [i.e. even though he did not meet them]. He stated this 600 years prior to its occurrence. (4)

In addition to the misguided political theorists, the practitioners of dark arts, including devil-worshipping magicians, soothsayers, and psychics, also partake in this speculation. Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khali, may Allah preserve him, stated:

Among the liars – whose affair has been unveiled by Islam in the Qur’an and the Sunnah – are the soothsayers, fortune tellers and magicians. They are from the most evil liars. Allah said:

Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. As for the poets, the erring follow them; see you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? And that they say what they do not do. Except those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, and remember Allah much, and reply back (in poetry) to the unjust poetry (which the pagan poets utter against the Muslims). And those who do wrong will come to know by what overturning they will be overturned. [Ash-Shu’araa. 221-222]

Allah made it known that the devils descend on these types of liars, even the poets amongst them; except those who believe, perform righteous deeds and reply back (in poetry) to the unjust poetry (which the pagan poets utter against the Muslims).

The Messenger said, “Whoever goes to a fortune teller or soothsayer and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what has been revealed to Muhammad”. [Sahih al-Jami. Number 5015]

It has been reported in an authentic narrations that the devils eavesdrop in the [first] heavens and then inform the magician or the soothsayer, then they add a hundred lies to it; so the ignorant wrong doer believes them whilst being aware of the recompense for the one who believes them. If this is the ruling against the one who believes them, then how about the one who is immersed in the sludge of soothsaying, magic and fortune telling? Therefore, the Muslims should also be cautious of these evil category of people and from their most distinct characteristics is lying. Allah and Messenger testified that indeed they are liars and made known their attachment to the devils. [5]

The Khawaariq – [Phenomena Attributed to Something Outside The Norm]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

The Khawaariq by way of which the devils misguide the children of Adam – such as when the devils take the image of a person who is absent or has passed away and what is similar to this – has misguided many of those who ascribe themselves to the Muslims or to the people of the Scripture. They establish this on two affairs: Firstly, that whoever from whom these khawaariq occurs is a Wali, and according to the term of the Christians he is a Qadees A’dheem – a great saint! Secondly, that the one from whom these khawaariq occurs is therefore infallible, everything he narrates is truth and everything he commands is justice”. However, it can definitely be the case that neither did a phenomena outside the norm – whether unrelated or related to sound knowledge and piety – occur from such a person nor a phenomena outside the normal related to deeds of the devils; rather the person merely carried out the tricks of the liars and wicked sinners. The tricks of the liars and wicked sinners are numerous indeed, so one thinks that they are amazing events outside the norm, however neither is that the case nor is it something similar to the tricks of the monks. Some people have written books regarding the tricks of the monks, such as the trick reported about one of them changing water into oil- that when the oil is in the interior of the lighthouse, the water gradually reduces and thus the oil floats [or pops up] on the water, so those who are present think that the water has changed into oil. The likes of this affair are numerous from the tricks of those Christians, because all that those Christians possess – those who altered the religion of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] – of activities that are attributed to something out of the norm are either from the devils or they are tricks, and there’s nothing in them related to the miracles of the righteous people.

Similarly, the deviated people – those who seek to alter the religion of Muhammad – adopt a religion that is not legislated by Allah and His Messenger, then they make it a path of worship and give it precedence over the path that is legislated by Allah and His Messenger. For example, they give precedence to listening to sounds from the tambourines and the shrill flutes over listening to the book of Allah, so one of them goes into a state of ecstasy and a satanic trance through which he becomes muddled up with shaytaan until he speaks in a language he does not know. Then when he returns to his senses – just as when a jinn speaks through the tongue of the one who is possessed and after informing the people of that which is in his heart and soul, which is from the Shaytaan, and the shaytaan leaves him -, he cannot repeat what he said at first.

The heretics alter the religion of the Messengers – either the religion of the Messiah or seek to alter the religion of Muhammad, and amongst the likes of such people are the proponents of hearsay, misguidance, the disbelievers, the polytheists, apostates and other than them, such as the likes of Musaylimah the liar, Al-Aswad Al-Unzee, Al-Haarith Ad-Dimashqee, Baabaa Roomee and other than them amongst those who engaged in activities that are considered to be outside the norm [i.e. so called miracles] but [in reality] are related to the deeds of the devils.

As for the tricksters, they are numerous and they are not Awliyaa of Allah. Their so called amazing activities that are outside the norm- if not related to the satanic deeds of the soothsayers and the magicians – a just tricks. They deliberately lie and deceive unlike those connected to the devils, because amongst them is he who deceives, so one thinks that what he does is from the miracles of the righteous people, just as amongst them is one who knows that what he does is from the devils, but he does so in order to achieve his goals.

The intent behind this discussion is that many of the activities that are considered to be outside of the norm [i.e. so called miracles] are either satanic deeds or tricks, so one thinks that they are the true miracles of the righteous people, for indeed that which whose cause is based on Shirk and wicked deeds can only be from the devils, such as when a person associates partners with Allah by invoking the stars, or invokes a person- whether such a person is dead or absent, or he makes an oath through unknown words and statements whose meanings are not known, or he knows that they are names of devils, or seeks aid through lewd conduct and oppression, then such deeds – considered to be outside of the norm that emanates from this – are from the devils.

The righteous people have miracles such as the miracles of the pious people of this Ummah [may Allah have mercy upon them], the miracles of the disciples of the Messiah [may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Messiah, and may Allah have mercy upon the disciples] and other than them amongst those who were upon the correct and unaltered religion of the Messiah. However, the occurrence of miracles at the hands of the righteous people does not necessitate that they are infallible like the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them]; rather it maybe that a righteous man- a Wali – has miracles, but despite this he mixes up by error and makes a mistake in that which he thinks or what he is made to hear or see, or what he sees, or what he understands from the revealed Scripture. And because of this, the statements of those other than the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them] can either be accepted or rejected [i.e. based on evidence], but as for the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them], it is obligated on a person to affirm truthfully everything they have related regarding the affairs of the unseen and obey them in everything they command. And due to this, Allah [The Exalted] obligated on a person to believe in everything the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allah be upon them] brought and did not obligate on a person to believe in everything that comes from others. Allah [The Exalted] said:

Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob), and to Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Musa (Moses) and ‘Iesa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam).” [Al-Baqarah. 136]

 Allah [The Exalted] said:

It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, and each and every act of obedience to Allah, etc.) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers); but Al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets. [Al-Baqarah. 177]

And because of this the Muslims are all in agreement that the one who disbelieved in a single Prophet whose Prophethood is well known, then he is a disbeliever- an apostate. There is no distinction between one Prophet from the other- by believing in some and disbelieving in others. Allah said:

Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allah and His Messengers (by believing in Allah and disbelieving in His Messengers) saying, “We believe in some but reject others,” and wish to adopt a way in between. They are in truth disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating torment. [An-Nisaa.  150-151] [6]

NB: This brief dialogue we engage in does not, in any manner, endorse violence, terrorism, or the violation of the rights for those who may not subscribe to the infallible sacred teachings of the Qur’an and the authentic reports of the seal of the Prophets, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

While we hold an unwavering belief in the inevitability of all the events mentioned in the Islamic Shariah, and acknowledge that the victorious group and the saved sect will endure until the end of time, despite the prevailing corruption – in any era – in the world, we also affirm that the noble Prophet Eesa, peace be upon him, will return to establish perfect justice on earth, guided by Allah’s final revelation.

However, it is important, without any ambiguity, that one adheres to the principles of justice in their interactions with others. Thus, one must explore the insightful writings of Shaikh Abu Iyaad, may Allah safeguard him.

We ask Allah:

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [7]

Knowledge Across Generations: Guidance, Responsibility and Harmony

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

“Indeed, among the portens of the hour (i.e. the signs of the day of Judgement) is that knowledge will be sought from the Asaghir”.

The people (scholars) have given different interpretations of “As-Sighar” in this context (as) mentioned by Ibn Abd al-Barr in Al-Jami [1/157] and Al-Shatibi in Al-I’tisam [2/93].

Ibn Qutaybah – may Allah the Most High have mercy upon him – held that As-Sighar are the young (youth). He stated based on the narration by Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, “the people will not cease to be upon good as long as their scholars are Mashayikh (i.e. elders) and not young people”, that it means:

Youthful gratification, youthful intensity, haste and folly would have ceased from the elder, and he possesses Tajribah and Khibrah [experience, proficiency and the know-how with regards to matters].

Neither doubt influences him through his knowledge nor is he overcome by (vain) desires, neither inclined -through his knowledge-towards excess eagerness for something nor (easily) enticed by Shaytan in the manner a young man is enticed. Thus, age is accompanied with composure, dignity and awe. The Shaikh (is mostly) safe from these matters which may influence the young person. If they influence him (i.e. a young person) and he gives a verdict, he ruins himself and others”.

Then the Shaikh [Abdus Salam Burjess – may Allah have mercy mercy upon him] stated that this ruling is not absolute with regards to the young ones, for indeed there were a group of the Sahabah and the Tabi’in who taught and gave verdicts in their young age, while the elders were present. However, the likes of these people are hard to find amongst those who came after them. If they are found and known for being upright- upon a sound (path), possess knowledge and their firmness is manifested, while there are no elders to be found, then knowledge of the Shariah is acquired from them, if they are free from Fitnah!

Therefore, the intent is not that the knowledge possessed by the young person is boycotted, while the elders are present; rather the intent is that the people are placed in their rightful positions. [1] [End of quote]

Nu’aym, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: It was said to Ibn Al-Mubarak, may Allah have mercy upon him, “Who are the Asaghir?” He said:

“Those who speak based on their views. As for the young one who narrates from the elder, he is not one who narrates based on his views”. [2]

Ibn al-Mubarak also said: “Al-Asaghir are Ahlul Bidah”. [3]

Imam Al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

A man will not become well facilitated until he takes knowledge from one above him, one similar to him and one below him. [4]

Imam Abdullah Ibn al-Mubarak, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

A man will not be from the (students or scholars) of Hadith until he writes from someone similar to him, someone above him and someone below him. [5]

Imam Sufyan Ibn Uyaynah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

A man will not be from the (students or scholars) of Hadith until he takes from someone above him, someone below him and someone similar to him.” [6]

Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Hadi Al-Mad’khalee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Musa, peace be upon him, was spoken to directly by Allah and the Tawrat was revealed to him, which contained Hudaa [i.e. that which guides a person to Iman, truth and protects one from misguidance] and Nur [i.e. a guiding light in the midst of the darkness of ignorance, confusion, doubts, beliefs and deeds that appear to be truth but are falsehood in reality and evil desires], but when he knew that another person possessed knowledge of that which he did not possess, [Allah informed us that he (Musa) said]:

لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِيَ حُقُبًا

I will not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I spend years and years in travelling]. [Al-Kahf. Verse 60]

He went on foot – neither had a car nor a riding beast, nor a horse; (rather) he travelled on foot”. [7]

An Example of Harmony Between Teacher and Student

Al-Allamah Muhammad Ibn Abdil Wahhab Al-Bannah -may Allah have mercy upon him, was considered one of Shaikh Rabee’s Shuyukh. Anyone who knew Shaikh Al-Bannah will know that he used to hold Shaikh Rabee in high esteem. On one occasion when he visited him at his house, Shaikh Al-Bannah said to him, “Take a seat and do not stand, for even though I am your Shaikh, you are my teacher”.

He was asked whether Shaikh Rabee is considered one of the senior scholars, so he said: “Who among the scholars of this era and before it truly knows the numerous callers to Islam like him?! He is known for evidence and proof and does not speak against anyone except with evidence. For this reason, I say that Rabee Hadi is like Yahyah Ibn Ma’een in this era. I say that indeed Rabee is the Yahya Ibn Ma’een of this era. May Allah reward him (with good), preserve him, and safeguard his intellect and memory. The most knowledgeable regarding the (situation) of men – with proof and evidence- is Rabee Hadi. May Allah keep him firm and alive, so that he refutes those who misrepresent Salafiyyah and wage war against it. We ask Allah to reveal their state of affairs, expose them, and protect us from their evil”. [8]

Allah Raises Some People of Knowledge Above Others

Allah, The Most High, said:

So he [Yusuf] began (the search) in their bags before the bag of his brother. Then he brought it out of his brother’s bag. Thus did We plan for Yusuf. He could not take his brother by the law of the king (as a slave), except that Allah willed it. (So Allah made the brothers to bind themselves with their way of “punishment, i.e. enslaving of a thief.”) We raise to degrees whom We please, but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah). [12:76]

We raise to degrees whom We please], as Allah said (i.e. in another Ayah):

يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ –

Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do]. [Al-Mujadilah 11]

But over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah).

Al-Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

There is not a scholar except that above him is (another) scholar until the all knowledge goes back to Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, (i.e. Allah as the absolute Owner and Bestower of all knowledge).

Abdur Razzaq, may Allah have mercy upon him, reported from Sufyan ath-Thawri, may Allah have mercy upon him, from Abdul A’laa ath-Tha’labi, may Allah have mercy upon him, from Sa’eed Ibn Jubayr, may Allah have mercy upon him, who said:

We were with Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, when he delivered an amazing speech. Then a man was amazed and said: “All praise and thanks be to Allah, above every possessor of knowledge is One All-Knowing”. Ibn Abbas said: “What an evil (or terrible) thing you have uttered! Allah is the All-Knowing, and He is above every knowledgeable one”. [9]

We raise to degrees whom We please.

Meaning, through beneficial knowledge and acquaintance with the paths that lead to their intended goals, just as We raised Yusuf’s, peace be upon him, in ranks.

Basheer al-Hujaymee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: One day, I heard al-Ḥasan al-Baṣri, may Allah have mercy upon him, recite this verse:

وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِى عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ

But over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah).

Then he paused and said: “By Allah! There is not a single scholar on the face of the earth who has reached the evening except that above him is one who is more knowledgeable until (all) knowledge goes back to the One who taught it (i.e. Allah)”. [10]

“We raise in degrees whom We will”.

Imam as-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

(Meaning), through beneficial knowledge and acquaintance with the paths that lead to the intended goals, just as We raised the ranks of Yusuf. [وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِي عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ – but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah)]- Meaning, for every scholar, there is one above him who is more knowledgeable until (all) knowledge goes back to Allah the Knower of the unseen and the seen. [11]

Imam Muhamad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

know that regardless how much knowledge you have attained, indeed, there is always someone more knowledgeable than you. ” but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah)”, until all knowledge goes back to Allah, the Might and Majestic (as the absolute Owner and Bestower of all knowledge). Do not think that you are the most knowledgeable of people, for (even) if you possess abundant knowledge, there is one who is more knowledgeable than you. Contemplate Musa, peace be upon him, when he said: “I do not know anyone among the people of the earth who is more knowledgeable than I”. What happened? He was told that indeed in a such and such place there is one who is more knowledgeable than you, meaning al-Khiḍr, peace be upon him. Then took place that which Allah Allah, The Most High, related to us in Surah al-Kahf. [12]

Excessive use of force by law enforcement

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that Allah’s Messenger, pease and blessings of Allah be upon him, said : “Two are the types of the inhabitants of Hell whom I did not see: people having flogs like the tails of the ox with them and they would be beating people, and the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked, who would be inclined (to evil) and making others inclined towards evil. Their heads would be like the humps of the bukht camel inclined to one side. They will not enter Paradise and they would not smell its odour whereas its odour would be smelt from such and such distance. [1]

Imam an-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“This hadith is from the miracles of Prophethood. Certainly these two types of people have appeared and they are present”. [2]

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Men having flogs like the tails of the ox with them and they would be beating people”, such as the police and other than police who beat people unjustly. These are from the people of Hell. This is a threat that calls for caution. A soldier and non-soldier must not hit people except based on a justified reason”. [3]

Anyone who takes on the responsibility to beat people unjustly is included in this hadith, whether it is by the order of the state or without the order of the state because the state is to be obeyed only in good. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Indeed, obedience is only in that which is good. There is no obedience to the creation in disobedience to the Creator”. [4]

“And the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked”.

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

It has been clarified that they will dress in short attire that does not conceal the obligatory parts of the body. It has been elucidated that they will wear clothing that exposes the woman’s skin. Furthermore, it has been expounded that they will don tight clothing that covers the body but still reveals that which leads to trial through a woman. [5] [End of quotes]

Regarding the statement: “They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”, here is the belief of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah as clarified by Imam Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him:

The one who dies upon Shirk is not forgiven; Paradise is forbidden for him — among the Arabs, non-Arabs, the Jinn, and humankind.

The one who dies upon a sin that is lesser than Shirk is under the Will of Allah. This is the opposite of what the Muʿtazilah, the Khawarij, and others who follow their path believe — that the sinner will dwell in the Fire forever, and that he will not be forgiven if he dies with the sin of fornication or alcohol consumption. They hold that he will dwell in the Fire forever. This belief is false. Rather, he will be under Allah’s Will: if He wills, He will forgive him, erase his evil deeds, and enter him into Paradise due to his belief in Islamic monotheism, Islam, and other righteous deeds. And if Allah wills, He punishes him based on the level of his sin — punished in the Fire as Allah wills, then removed from the Fire.

This is the belief of Ahlus Sunnah, such as the Sahabah and those who follow them in good. He is punished as Allah wills, and the period may be long or short in accordance with his evil deeds. Then he is removed from the Fire and will not remain there forever.

None remains in the Fire forever except the polytheists and those who disbelieve (in Allah or His Messenger, or died upon a sin that is tantamount to major disbelief). [6] [Paraphrased]
